Sean Wilentz, a history professor at Princeton University, is among the Clinton supporters who believe that her campaign has been slow to recognise how Mr Obama was galvanising support among black voters and white liberals. He accuses the Obama team of having “purposefully polluted the contest with a new strain of what historically has been the most toxic poison in American politics”.
Asked why so many whites were voting for Mrs Clinton in states such as Mississippi, he stressed that those who had stayed Democrats in the South are unlikely racists, but added: “If there is a racial element, the question is how did it happen and in whose interests was it for Hillary to lose her black following?”

I go to church every Sunday, and frankly, I never received the memo that says you’re obligated to agree with everything that a pastor says in a sermon. I thought the idea that you’re allowed to actually disagree with him or her is inherently “American”. So what’s JB’s problem, again? Let me get this straight. This guy JB is switching his vote from Obama to Clinton because Obama’s pastor, from whom he’s publicly disagreed on repeated occasions, made inflammatory remarks during a sermon in a service that Obama never attended. Can we please try to wrap our minds around the stupidity of that notion? If JB loved America as much as he apparently claims, he’d take his vote a hell of a lot more seriously than that.

As I said below, Obama owes the voters an explanation for why he was attending the church of this hatemonger and liar. Marshall thinks McCain needs to distance himself from Hagee. Obama’s association is much closer, therefore, his burden is much heavier.
If you sit through a sermon filled with hate-speech and can stomach that and not be repulsed by it enough to get up and leave. And worse, you keeep coming back for more instead of searching for another church and another pastor then : it is BS that you disagree: it can only mean that at some level you agree. There is no way around that.
You shouldn’t tolerate it from “a friend” lest from “your pastor” again, and again and again for over 20 years.
Josh can keep fooling himself all he wants.

How very sad that a person who had every advantage, is filled with so much anger and hate. In addition to serial lying, being a total fraud, harkening only to the pay masters who foot his bills, Obama has some very very serious psychological problems.
The idea of someone even more unbalanced than GWB, being in ANY governing or decision making position, is horrifying The damage this person would create for our country is incalculable!

My first gut reaction to Obama? He reminded me of Bush! The haughty confidence, the air of self-importance were enough but the preachy way he spoke triggered my alarms.
I remember (don’t you?) that right off the bat the first thing Obama said about Clinton was that she was “Bush Light?”
That old saying comes to mind: When you are pointing one finger at someone else, four others are pointing back at you.

He should have taken her offer of a combined ticket. It was the Monday night show before the Texas/Ohio votes. I know because I DVR his show every weeknight, and the following weekend, I was catching up on his shows, and finally watched that Monday show, and was flabbergasted he said that as if it were fact.

Wow! I just read John Cannon’s commentary, and I believe he is right. I’ve been trying to explain this to my Obama friends for two months now. I said if Obama is Democratic nominee, there will be a 48 state landslide for McCain. No one believes me, and they say I’m a cynic. But it looks more and more true each day. Let’s remember, that Obama took his children to hear Rev. Wright’s sermons. What would we think of someone who took their children to KKK meetings? What would we think of someone who took their children to a strip club? How is this any different?
It’s one thing for Obama to hang out there because he likes to socialize with what is probably a pretty interesting congregation. It’s another thing entirely to subject your children to that environment and that rhetoric.

I’m having a hard time understanding how painting HIlary as somehow anti-black helps him. It’s clearly not true, and he already has the black vote. I think he’s trying to get a popular movement going that will pressure, he thinks, Hillary to quit the race for the good of the nation, or whatever. I think he’s got a stupid strategy, cause he’s not looking ahead. To the GE, to solving the nation’s real problems. Maybe he thinks they can’t be solved, and so it doesn’t matter. I can understand his pastor, it’s like those groups that can’t yet see the old problems have changed, and can’t see that it’s hard for most everybody. The greatness of Obama’s run is that it shows Americans don’t want to be racist and actually love diversity and excitement, even when it has little substance. Even a goofy guy like Obama, who doesn’t know that much and is mostly self-serving in my opinion is great, cause it shows that things have changed. I wish we could enjoy this contest more than lament it. It’s all pretty cool, in my opinion.
No question, he’s been trying to steam roll Hillary for some time into quitting. I love that she’s hanging tough. Tell me we don’t need that in a president!
My guess is that he feels that he can pull off a GREAT ORATORY speech of healing and unity at the convention that will bring the disenchanted back into the fold. The speech is probably already written.
Also, and I hate to go all Oliver Stone on this, but I can’t shake the feeling that Obama has some pretty powerful people behind him assuring him that he’ll have the same clear road to the WH that he did to the senate. The fact that 2 of his opponents had their divorce papers mysteriously unsealed is just too much of a coincidence for me to shake. McCain is after all up in age and maybe there’s some kind of deep dark secret that will mysteriously appear and throw the race into chaos during the GE.
That’s why I’m glad Hillary is hanging tough. Too many unanswered questions here.

I had written down the adds that I had heard on South Carolina radio while I was in Charleston. The Obama adds were blowing my mind so distinctly different than what I was hearing in Ohio.
The weekend after Bill Clinton told the truth about what was taking place in South Carolina I was shocked when I heard the Sunday Talking heads Billy bashing on their Sunday programs. The MSM was truly too chicken shit to call the Obama campaign out on this.

I have Black friends..One is a Pastor who has a great church..The First time i went..I got lots of heart fwelt Hugs..There was Nothing but Love and praise in that Church..
His wife has been to several of my grandkids birthday partys..so have His Children..
This was supposed to be a Year of Healing for America..for an END to Division..a Time when Our Nation grew Closer to Our Constitution..Grew Closer
to Equality..and fufilling Many peoples Dreams..a Time of Balance..and coming back to the CENTER .
I Know what Hillary Believes..Where she stands..what she has fought for her entire Adult Life..She has Class ansd Compassion..
This should have been her Year.Her Time to Help heal Our Nation..A Time for a Qualified Woman to be President..

I am deeply troubled by the revelations of the last several days that came on top of the under-handed campaign attacks from Obama operatives–all efforts to leave the “great uniter” label of the Illinois senator in tact.
But the revelations about the racial prejudices of his pastor and, obviously, the minister’s deep-seated racism have come to bother Senator Obama only after these outrageous sermons were publicized.
This state of affairs poses serious questions about Senator Obama. His statements today did not diminish my–and I assume, other voters’ concerns.
Reading the WSJ article Susan posts here you would notice that Wright’s awful speech at Andrew rankin Memeoria Chapel took place on January 15th, 2006;
yet in 2006 Obama donated the incredible amount of $22,500 to Wright’s church. Sounds to me like a strong approval of Wright’s comments by Obama.
I am outraged at Obama’s piece (yes he is the author and have it to Arianna…) today at HuffPo responding to and excusing Wright.

I just read the Huffingtonpost. Boy is this guy one slick MF. I hope he goes down but there are real people out there who have totally swallowed the kool aid.

Right on, Susan. It’s about time we start calling Obama’s race baiting for what it is. People are so afraid of being labeled racist, they are allowing him to play this disgusting game and no one calls him on it. It’s been obvious to me from the get go, they have used race to their advantage, by painting the Clintons as racists — and the media and the big boyz blogz have been all to happy and willing to run with it. If Team O thinks this tactic will work against the Repubs and McCain, they’ve got another thing coming.

Remember a while back, when the discussion was “is Obama black enough?” Well, kudos to his campaign, he sure put that to rest - haven’t heard that meme in months. By stoking the fires of race hatred, he successfully painted the Clintons as racist opportunists, facts and history to the contrary, pulling in a solid majority of the AA vote in southern states. I believe his strategy was to eliminate all challengers before less savory aspects of his resume became public knowledge - at which point the left would back him as he painted McCain, in turn, as racist. So much for a “different” pol, a “uniter”, a new savior to lead us from the fires of partisanship into the promised land of mutual love and respect. But pull away the curtain and he’s just another sleazy Chicago dealmaker, brutally crushing friends, mentors, fellow partisans in the pursuit of power. Sheep go to heaven, goats go to hell.
