I find that Michelle Obama sometimes seems attractive, but also comes across, at times, as an arrogant, spoiled and immature person. I was impressed and appreciative of her husband until I learned more about his character and associates.

I was curious and checked Michelle's senior thesis. Her topic is very interesting. Her manner of developing the ideas seems somewhat weak and thin. I did empathize with Michelle when she described feeling that she had not really felt a sense of belonging at Princeton, and was always on the periphery. It caused me to reflect more about the divide of race and how it can be bridged. The question of how university life affects the empathy of blacks toward less fortunate blacks, is certainly of importance.

Why does she take as a given that she can only be loyal to her own people by putting them above all other people? Doesn't that assumption come across as a barrier that pushes away people who are not black? It seems that this way of thinking is a wall.

I am interested in ways that peoples can celebrate and share their differences, instead of always seeing them as a problem.

When Hillary was in Arkansas she had a seamstress that made her clothes. I always wondered why but never denigrated her for it. It turns out she is very short like I am.

Matter of fact we are built pretty much the same. I would have loved to have my clothes made but instead I had them altered. I have always had to alter my clothes.I will admit when I worked I had several suits made for me because it was just too hard to buy clothes off the rack.

No kidding. According to MO she only got to go a couple of sleepovers in her time. She also mentions the week long vacation she took as a kid every summer.

We were poor compared to her family, we had 5 kids, two with severe disabilities. My mother had a Christmas Club that she saved every extra dime in so we would have Christmas gifts. Dad was the only one who worked. I babysat and other things to nuy my own clothes, taking some stress off dad. We didn't even buy our first TV, it was given to us when a family friend bought his color tv. I have one birthday that stands out ; it was a sleepover at a friend's house...we were both born on the same day.

Despite a hard younger life I am not bitter. I have my volunteer activities (I've always volunteered) that I do now that I no longer work.
My husband and I do okay. We can invest outside of his 401(k) and stock offerings from his company. But we don't even come close to making what MO does.

What does she do besides "scrape together $10,000 a year for dance lessons, etc...?

MO needs to get the chip off her shoulders. She needs to stop thinking that she deserves reparations for that is how I see her....Get off your high horse MO noone wants to hear it anymore.

I can't believe she specifically told a group of women to stay in low-paying pink-collar jobs. It would have been bad enough if she told a mixed group of middle-income people to do what she didn't do and go into a service career. But to blithely gloss over centuries of discrimination by urging women to stay in the same jobs that they have been forcibly relegated to for centuries -- and in the context of a campaign against the only woman who ever had a chance at the presidency -- the ignorance boggles the mind.

And also to you. I'm in this with you.
I went to college, then quit because my wife at the time should go first. So I was waiting till she acheived her degree. But being a wage working manager and her a book keeper, the reality of bills kept her from finishing or me finishing. Eventually the job I had was taken from me after I protested the fact that my company's insurance wasn't going to cover the birth of our child. I threatened to sue if they didn't. After our child was born, i was fired 2 weeks later. The reason? "not doing a very good job"

Yeah right...might sound good unless you look at the stack of compliments I got for the job I did. Karma caught up one day with the man who fired me, as he was arrested for embezzling 3 million dollars. But I digress.

Today, my wife and I are talking about how companies Penalize you for being poor by charging you 'reconnection' fees, or 'deposits' for utilities. I forgot to pay our gas bill since during this (technically-a-winter?) season we didn't use heat. It was purely a mistake, and I take responsibility. Our average bill is about $25. But after getting to $135, they cut it off (actually they never disconnected at all). They cancelled the account. Did they tell me that? nope. I happened to find a bill and look up the number, called to pay it all off. What did I find?
$85 deposit again, $45 reconnection, $35 fee that is still unexplained. Cha Ching...total bill now? $295.

How does something that is $25 become $295?
Well, the same thing has become true in several industries. They are penalizing lower income folks across the board to keep their electricity, phone, gas, and other utilities.

My elective bills have been reduced in the last year by willful changes. But these others I cannot do with out. We have no choice but to run our electricity, and instead of looking forward to December - March to see bills around $100 or so, we had to keep our air conditioner on because it stayed warm and muggy down here in Tejas.

This goes on and on, but I don't hear it from Mrs. Obama, the topic of this thread.

When Clinton was here at a rally, she spoke directly of this suffering. Is she perfect? nah...god bless, but she got it, she elucidated it very well.

We need to bring this situation under control. I feel I'm in Reagan's America again where the wealth disparity is outlandish.

Lets do this...Can we make changes that rock these companies to their knees?
Yes, We Will.

Bless you allimom99
