A Great Lion Endorses Hillary

John Murtha Backs Hillary Clinton …

U.S. Rep. John Murtha today announced his endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“I’ve known Senator Clinton for 15 years,” the Johnstown Democrat said in a statement released by his campaign committee.

“I know that she continually reaches out for opinions and ideas, not just from our nation’s leaders, but from all Americans.”

Murtha is one of the most powerful Democrats in the House.

But his backing carries added importance this year because he also is a “superdelegate” – an official who is free to support any candidate at the party’s national convention in August.

I always liked John Murtha. He is one of the few fearless members in Congress who speak out their minds irrespective of the political consequences. He is a great supporter of our military and his support carries clout

This is really awesome. I like him a lot too.

And he did so after Obama’s speech, so will the threats now start coming towards him as it did Lewis???

Comment by democrat1 | 2008-03-18 20:44:31

no doubt about it

I would hope not and if it did, don’t you think this guy’s got enough moxie to go public with the threat and to tell ‘em to shove it?

Awesome. I think the tide is beginning to turn. The Superdelegates must realize how much damage this ‘Obama-Gate’ mess will stir up in the GE. Man, I can’t believe that we, as Democrats, can bungle so many elections when we have a really clear advantage. Let’s hope it’s not too late!

Nail, meet hammer.

Great observation.

“I know that she continually reaches out for opinions and ideas, not just from our nation’s leaders, but from all Americans.”

What does this say in few words? Uniter, solutions, people, everything Obama claims to be! Super Delegates listen carefully! Voters listen and vote with your minds and not feelings, because feelings will be crushed if anyone else enters that Whitehouse but Hillary!

Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their candidate.

Murtha’s a great American, but he did get his toes damp in the ABSCAM thing. Not so much as the biys in the Keating 5 matter, but expect to hear a little about it.

Murtha is my Congressman and he has been great. He has been a lion about getting us out of IRAQ. And having him endorse Clinton is great! Put that in your purse, Pelosi! He is all cattle, no hat. Impressive and tough. A doer, not a talker. Solutions, not a whiner and ruminator. He is a guy that knows what is going on. I’d 10 times rather have his endorsement than Caroline Kennedy’s and Maria Shriver’s and Oprah’s. Give me a break. “My kids got me to support Barack”. (Can’t they think for themselves.) Pathetic. Kids who know what? How to load songs on their IPod, load new ringtones on their cell phones and play video games. Yep, having them tell me who to support for President is sweet. I would be ashamed to say that. My kids and I have had longs talks about the upcoming election and we all agree….Hillary is a no-brainer.
I still say, as a divorced mother of three, and having raised them and educated them alone, if they ever wrote a book and titled it dreams of their father, I would be PISSED. Barack must really have issues with his mother and grandmother.

Very interesting last bit about Sen. Obama’s book ‘Dreams from My Father,’I never thought about that but you are absolutely correct! His father was the one that abandoned him yet he writes a book in honor of his father rather than his mother.

I think that the Murtha endorsement of Senator Clinton is also a very telling gesture with respect to Murtha’s relationship with Nancy Pelosi.

As you all know, Pelosi put Murtha’s name forward for the position of House Majority Leader. She lost, and Steni Hoyner won out.

The reason I mention this is how it relates to Nancy’s recent appearances on the Sunday Morning “bobble head” shows. Her response has been that the superdelegate’s could cause problems at the convention if they decide to “go their own way.” I think that Murtha has just fired the first shot across Pelosi’s bow!

woohoo ya think?

I was wondering a bit about that but I bet she’ll understand. AFter all the brass behind her starting with Gen. Clark it only makes sense to ME that he would go to Hillary. Plus she’s done some great work for Veterans and at Walter Reed. That’s Murtha’s BIG issue. Rightly.

Nancy will have to get over it.
Maybe
Or be even MORE wise and follow his lead.

That is an excellent point! I hope that many other “shots” are fired in that direction. Maybe they will knock some sense into the head of Madame Speaker.

Hoyer certainly delivered Maryland his way. What schadenfreude awaits those thinking the man signals change.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-19 00:46:24

I’ll add to the chorus of “Great point!” Yes. And Murtha has the cajones to do just that.

I tried to email Mr. Murtha to thank him but the website email for him is “currently not working”

I bet he’s getting a LOT of thank yous and maybe some not so nice words from BO’s group of “healers” (cough)

I’ve always loved John Murtha. He’s not perfect but he’s not afraid to take a stand when it’s necessary. I sent him an email when he came out against this IRAQ mistake too. His people sent me a nice return email. I was very impressed.

Now I’d love to thank him again. Oh well. Mr. MURTHA if you are reading this blog - I SALUTE YOU!

This is such wonderful news. I just got home from work and I was tired and beat. But this news has just energized me. :)

Murtha endorsed Clinton? That Racist BASTARD! How dare he not vote for the GREAT AND ALL POWERFUL OBAMA! HE HATES BLACK PEOPLE! (snark off.) I hate the fact these assholes called ME a racist! I’ve had my ACLU card since before I could vote. I had friends who were of colour at the risk of being BEATEN by my own parents and being villafied by my own crispy white community. OBAMA IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE POTUS! And it has nothing to do with him being AA.

Comment by Irish1139 | 2008-03-19 08:00:43

I agree with strawberrybitch. I don’t like being called a racist after all these years. It is Obama and his friends who are the racists. I am sorry they have crumbling schools. Maybe the AA community should take a project on and run with it. We have been working with AAs for years to improve their lives.

I agree there is still more work to do but please I am not going to feel guilty about Obama and his friends. I didn’t graduate from Harvard and neither did my kids, and I don’t begrudge him his success at all. I am delighted everytime someone makes it out of their beginnings, black or white.

Thank you John Murtha. Thank you, thank you.
