And Grandma Under the Bus
UPDATE from SusanUnPC: BELOW THE FOLD, a clip of what Obama said about his grandmother, and NPR host Juan Williams’ take on the speech.
The thing that strikes me the most about Obama’s race speech today is that his campaign intends for this to be the definitive and last word on the subject. It is as if they believe that Obama himself is entitled to play by his own set of rules while holding Hillary, her campaign and her supporters to another standard entirely. Lets begin by examining some of words that Obama used and see if what he claims measures up with the facts on the ground.
In describing his intimate relationship with Reverend Wright Obama took great pains to create an image of a true reverend of a man, a patriot dedicated to helping others in need and preaching the gospel of Christ.
But the truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man. The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor. He is a man who served his country as a U.S. Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the finest universities and seminaries in the country, and who for over thirty years led a church that serves the community by doing God’s work here on Earth - by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
All very well and good. It seems logical that if Obama had the deep feelings for this man that he describes in many places he would look up to him and regard him as a role model. Not just to himself but to others. But what Obama doesn’t mention is that the “values” that Reverend Wright and the Trinity Unity Church of Christ believe are “black” value system. Not the Christian value system. On the face of it seems that Obama’s church of 20 years is a segregationalist church. In fact it is.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:
1. Commitment to God
- Commitment to the Black Community
- Commitment to the Black Family
- Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
- Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
- Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
- Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
- Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
- Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
- Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
- Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
- Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.
For the strangest reason this Black Value System was “disappeared” from the Trinity Church’s website. This occurred sometime between March 15, 2007 and March 29th, 2007. Here is a link to an archived copy of the page for your reading pleasure: About Us But as it turns out the Black Value System page of the Trinity website still does exist. It is now a little link on the Home Page just under where it says: For more information click here The Black Value System.
You will notice that this goes into much more detail as to what the Black Value System is and what they expect of their adherents. And frankly I don’t find anything that they state to be objectionable. In fact they are all worthy goals. Except for the fact that they emphasize that they are black goals for black people. And they are exclusively for blacks. But isn’t exclusivity segregation?
And occasionally it finds voice in the church on Sunday morning, in the pulpit and in the pews. The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright’s sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.
I wondered about his choice of words here considering the fact that his church, while not segregated, is indeed segregationalist with it’s “black” value system. What is Obama trying to say to us? Is he claiming that churches in white neighborhoods preach a “white” value system too? Well in fact, Obama’s choice of phrase comes from the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who used it frequently in describing his religious experiences in the deep south during the 1960s.
Miller: Don’t you feel that integration can only be started and realized in the Christian church, not in schools or by other means? This would be a means of seeing just who are true Christians.
King: As a preacher, I would certainly have to agree with this. I must admit that I have gone through those moments when I was greatly disappointed with the church and what it has done in this period of social change. We must face the fact that in America, the church is still the most segregated major institution in America. At 11:00 on Sunday morning when we stand and sing and Christ has no east or west, we stand at the most segregated hour in this nation. This is tragic. Nobody of honesty can overlook this. Now, I’m sure that if the church had taken a stronger stand all along, we wouldn’t have many of the problems that we have. The first way that the church can repent, the first way that it can move out into the arena of social reform is to remove the yoke of segregation from its own body. Now, I’m not saying that society must sit down and wait on a spiritual and moribund church as we’ve so often seen. I think it should have started in the church, but since it didn’t start in the church, our society needed to move on. The church, itself, will stand under the judgment of God. Now that the mistake of the past has been made, I think that the opportunity of the future is to really go out and to transform American society, and where else is there a better place than in the institution that should serve as the moral guardian of the community. The institution that should preach brotherhood and make it a reality within its own body.
So Obama claims that we need to move on from the past while at the same time holding on to the definitions of the past. He claims that we need to reach out beyond the racial divide to seek unity and racial equality and yet he belongs to an Afrocentric church that preaches the “black” value system. And this man
that Obama admires so much who is supposedly “doing God’s work here on Earth” apparently does so by condemning the United States with his 10 essential facts.
Wright takes the pulpit here one Sunday and solemnly, sonorously declares that he will recite ten essential facts about the United States. “Fact number one: We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college,” he intones. “Fact number two: Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!” There is thumping applause; Wright has a cadence and power that make Obama sound like John Kerry. Now the reverend begins to preach. “We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns and the training of professional KILLERS. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God. . . . We conducted radiation experiments on our own people. . . . We care nothing about human life if the ends justify the means!” The crowd whoops and amens as Wright builds to his climax: “And. And. And! GAWD! Has GOT! To be SICK! OF THIS SHIT!“
Whew! That sure doesn’t sound like any church I ever attended. In fact, in the churches I attended it was taught that we weren’t supposed to use words like “shit”. And we were taught that all races and all people are equal under God’s law. But Obama explains….
They are full of dancing, clapping, screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear. The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and yes, the bitterness and bias that make up the black experience in America.
Sorry there Senator Obama. It isn’t the dancing and the clapping or the screaming and the shouting that jar me. It is WHAT they are dancing and clapping and screaming and shouting about.
And those who know him well agree that apparently Obama agrees with Wright.
“If you want to understand where Barack gets his feeling and rhetoric from,” says the Rev. Jim Wallis, a leader of the religious left, “just look at Jeremiah Wright.”
So it is understandable that Obama might be unwilling to distance himself from his pastor, spiritual mentor and close personal friend of 20 years. He is like a member of his family.
I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.
These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.
So, is he saying that because Granny said some racist things more than once during his lifetime and she is white that we can now excuse Reverend Wright? Or is he saying that because Reverend Wright is like a member of his family and that well, racism runs in the family so there really isn’t anything he can do about it? It makes one wonder. But Obama finally offers the real excuse.
But we do need to remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist in the African-American community today can be directly traced to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy of slavery and Jim Crow.
Jim Crow laws existed in 17 states: AL, AZ, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, NM, NC, OK, SC, TX, VA, WV and WY. The Jim Crow laws did NOT exist throughout the entire United States. In fact they did not exist in Illinois where Reverend Wright preached his hate for those many decades. The President that put an end to the Jim Crow laws was a man from Texas. His name was Lyndon Baines Johnson. And Hillary was berated and declared a race baiter for bringing this fact up by Senator Obama’s campaign. In fact Senator Obama himself alluded to it. So much for his experience and capability trying to heal racial wounds.
As his speech comes toward conclusion the oratory reaches new heights, entreating us to put aside these differences and work toward the common good.
This time we want to talk about how the lines in the Emergency Room are filled with whites and blacks and Hispanics who do not have health care; who don’t have the power on their own to overcome the special interests in Washington, but who can take them on if we do it together.
This time we want to talk about the shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life.
This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn’t look like you might take your job; it’s that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit.
This time we want to talk about the men and women of every color and creed who serve together, and fight together, and bleed together under the same proud flag. We want to talk about how to bring them home from a war that never should’ve been authorized and never should’ve been waged, and we want to talk about how we’ll show our patriotism by caring for them, and their families, and giving them the benefits they have earned.
And yes they are beautiful words. But remember. They are words. Just words.
Indeed, when Senator Obama has been caught associating with a despicable man that he considers his spiritual advisor it is time to change the subject and discuss the “real” issues. According to him, his campaign and his followers it does not matter what Senator Obama has done. It is only what he says he will do that is important. Because this isn’t about him, it’s about you. Isn’t that a convenient “out” for hanging out with a racist for 20 years? Because this race isn’t about him. It’s about someone else. And that is who we should be talking about.
Never mind that the man asking you to do this has demonstrated horrible judgment in associating with such a despicable man that used the sanctity of the church to spew his racist hatred. Never mind that the man asking you to do this has a spiritual mentor that praises and is friends with one of the most vile racist and antisemitic beings on the planet. Never mind that the man asking you to embrace racial unity is a long standing member of a black segregationalist church. And never mind that when his opponent for the Democratic nomination offers detailed solutions to help ordinary Americans as he says we must do, he tears down her character, brings up the most horrible references from her past and laughs to his audiences about it.
No. Never you mind any of that. Because this isn’t about him. This is about you.

Barack Obama would be better if he didn’t want to both have his cake and eat it. It’s good he would like to see America rise above race and religion. But he sabotages himself by trying to hide the non-race aspects of his personal THEOLOGY. See:

Thanks! You are hilarious.
What I find absolutely hilarious about this entire Greek drama episode of the ‘Obama speech about race’ is the obvious histrionics.
Let’s see, thinks the Obama campaign, how to defuse the Rev. Wright issue. I know - let’s move the whole discussion into the uncomfortable zone for the media. Then they’ll have to stop attacking me - because we can accuse them of being racist! Continue to ask questions about Wright - and that’s a racist attack on me! Because I’ve already addressed this issue - in the very serious ‘race speech’ I’ve given. And thus, having said the very last word that ever should be expected of me to be spoken, the media can never ask me about it again.
This guy is truly a piece of work - he knows how to work the race issue to his advantage. But the facts speak for themselves - donations of over $200K in a year to a preacher advocating race division? What kind of an ostrich do we think Obama is - he’s unaware of what his pastor of the last 20 years has been preaching? Unity? Hope? Yah sure sounds like it, eh?
This great oratory today convinces me only that Obama is willing to exploit his color in a way that should make a person with any skin color ashamed.
Not if the Media does so via Black commentators, not if those black Super Delegates rise up and denounce his speech!
Will they though, doubtful, Obama has done what even Jackson would never do, insight racism as the means to ultimate power in the USA!
Only a lowlife crooked political animal would, and we saw just that today!
How do you retalliate, stop watching Oprah, Will Smith or listening to music of the many black singers, as they are the tops of their fields in a racially scorn America that Obama denounced today!
Talk about moving to the past, what happened Obama, you need it to move your selfish agenda forward again! Disgusting!
Obama did today what a child does when caught red handed at something, he diverted the attention from the matter in question to blaming everything on something else!
Will the media fall for it, probably, hope not, because what will Obama do as President, when there is no recourse to pass blame?
Psychologically, it must be taking a toll on him, so hopeful one minute, and the next remembering his issues with the filthy petty thug Rezko…up and down, it’s SO exhausting.
I think that so far the press has fallen for it. I haven’t watched the news all day today so I wouldn’t have to hear the spin.
And he pimped Granny on national TV. How low is that?
The biggest problem for me is a consistent and growing pattern of dishonesty and hypocrisy. Very few news reports mentioned a very simple point: last Friday he made the rounds of talk shows claiming that he was not aware of these kinds of statements by Rev. Wright. Today in his speech, he admitted he was aware of them. Period. When he is confronted and needs to take responsibility for choices and actions, he lies. Exelon, Rezko, lobbyists, NAFTA, race-baiting, the list continues. And, I can’t believe I am actually agreeing with Newt Gingrich who emphasized this today, but it raises a very serious question about his judgment. Rev. Wright gave Louis Farrakhan a lifetime achievement award! If Obama doesn’t recognize why, through his Senatorial association, he is endorsing these words and behaviors, then how will he perform on a world stage with dangerous foreign leaders? It’s the same argument that has been made about a number of other issues, including his “opposition” to the war: words vs. actions. I do not trust this man.
I don’t have any proof of any amount of donations other than $22,500 that the Obamas personally gave to Reverend Wright’s Trinity Church in 2006. I thought I read somewhere that he also donated a significant portion of the tainted Rezko money to him to but have since been unable to find the information.
Do you have the source for this $200,000 in donations?
Are the finances of the Church public info? say from 1994 to present?
As Hillary says — Obama is about Rhetoric and Rallys.
I have one question for Barack Obama!
If you believed in the basic teachings of Rev Wright, and the values of your church, then how come you stood by while tenants froze and stood by when Maytag workers lost their jobs?
If we are to believe you never heard the dispicable sermons of Rev Wright, then please do not take us to be so foolish as to believe that you never heard an uttering from fellow parisheners of the sermon the sunday after 9/11 when Wright stated “the chickens have come home to roost!”
Is your deception so deep that you expect thinking people to conclude that you knew nothing?
This being so, then since you are so out of touch with the goings on in your own church family, your own district you represent, your own funders, your own campaign advisors, then how on earth can you say you are able to be President of the United States?
The 9/11 quote is the most damaging politically. As it should be. And the fact that he used a quote from Malcolm X during his nation of Islam days makes it even worse. Of course the crowd clapping, and shouting and high fiving and all that afterwards pretty much puts the last nail in the coffin. Frankly the whole thing has me quite upset as an American. It not only is not acceptable,it is political heresy. And I cannot, under any circumstances support this person for the Presidency.
I realize that some people view this as me siding with the Republicans or something equally abhorrent. The truth is that I am siding with America. And all those innocent people that were murdered on 9/11. And all of their families. And to all of the soldiers in Afghanistan fighting because of it.
Some issues truly transcend parties. Some things are worth uniting for. And this is one of them. I will not accept or remain complacent while Obama refuses to disown this heinous man and all he stands for. Disowning him is not the same thing as disowning the whole black community. It is disowning racism and hate and all those that preach it.
No one in their right mind believes that Obama didn’t hear about the 9/11 sermon if in fact he was not there to hear it himself. And considering that he calls himself a Christian, and considering that nearly every single Christian in America was in church the Sunday after 9/11, I find his denial to be a little more than suspect. At a minimum he found out what his “spiritual mentor” said that day. And he is lying.
I agree with you fleaflicker, 100%.
Would you believe that a group attacked to a college in Texas is getting ready to give Rev. Wright an award. It seems there’s a sucker born every minute.
attached –
And Reverend Wrong made that speech only a few days after 9/11 when our nation was absolutely devastated and in shock. While the great majority of us were emotionally overwhelmed, frightened and concerned for the safety and security of our nation, Reverend Wrong was denouncing our nation and appeared to be sadistically celebrating our crisis. Imagine having that kind of hatred, having that much bigotry in your makeup. He had no sympathy for the victims jumping from the Towers? He had no sympathy for those who went down in those planes? No sympathy for their families?
Obama is a dangerous fraud, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
James Taranto in the WSJ today quotes Wright’s mentor, Rev. Cone:
“…What Obama is evading is that this “profoundly distorted view” is not just some passing emotion. It is what Wright himself, in the “talking points” page of his congregation’s Web site, describes as “systematized black liberation theology.” As we noted yesterday, Wright credits James Cone of New York’s Union Theological Seminary with having undertaken this systematization. Here again is Cone’s description of black liberation theology:
Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love…”

You know, though, the last thing anyone wants is to cross the line into sophistry.
AA’s, and others, have legitimate complaints in regard to racism. Stable race relations are pivotal to our security for a myriad of reasons. Poverty and hate breed chaos and destruction, violence, a degradation of the culture. And racism is morally reprehensible.
Clinton has every right to defend herself from Obama’s false attacks, I hope she stays out of the gutter, and manages to use this to rebuild the national discourse in regard to race, poverty, and advancement. She would show true leadership, something lacking here, in this country, since her husband left office.
The last thing anyone wants is to feed this monster, the one Obama’s people created, or let anyone else feed their emotions in regard to Wright’s inflammatory speech.
Wright is a kook, Farakkhan is a kook, some consider Cheney a kook, but the AA community isn’t comprised of kooks, by any means. This is not an issue of black v white, what can we do to make things better?
So, be careful what you choose to eat.
SIMON..
I think Obama crossed that line of Sophistry….and like the Bush administartion has…when some new fact comes out..or he is confronted..he just does it again..
You are right..Many Races..Creeds..Ethnic Groups have legitimate Complaints..even Whites..The Poor and Middle Class..The Elderly..Our Service Folks and Vets..
We are ALL in this TOGETHER..
I am Convinced that the DEMOCRAT PARTY is the PEOPLES Party..and Most Closely Represents The Intent of Our Founding Fathers..and is the Party that Most Cherishes Our CONSTITUTION…and FREEDOM..and EQUALITY..recognizing what a Melting Pot of Peoples and Cultures we have in the United States..
That Pot has been Stewing and Mixing for a long time Time..Its getting well Blended…It has Almost all the Ingredients it needs to Flavor it..We just need to Sweeten it up a little and NOT let anyone Poison it..or Make it BITTER Now…We have come to Far..Its Almost Ready to be Done…Made to perfection…
Whats left will Be Made into a PERFECT LIBERTY Bell..to stand beside the Origional One..which reminds Us That Our nation was Not Perfect when it was created..and That LIBERTY is Not Perfected Until there Is Liberty for ALL..
I Honestly Believe That HILLARY CLINTON..is a Very tanlented Gracious and Brave Woman..Who Demonstrates Great Character.. and Will..
IF anyone is DESTINED..in Todays World..I Believe its Hillary..and that she willprovide the Discourse and Leadership this Nation Needs..and that Senator Obasma and asll of Us can Learn a Great Amount about Character from her..
God Bless America..
It really isn’t. It is an issue as to what is acceptable and what is not. And most reasonable people can agree on that.
My greater point though is to be careful not to let the issue be used to further divide, and this is a very very dicey area.
Many would use sophistry to create and feed the race divide, and that’s the last thing any rational person wants.
So this has far less to do with reasonable behavior, and far more to do with covert racism, masquerading as indignity.
Not you, flea, but others.
It’s really at this point someone should call it, and say, OK, Wright is a jerk, Hillary has a right to defend herself from Obama’s tactics, we all understand WHAT Obama and his tards are doing, (Rove, but without the talent), now what do we do to FIX this problem of racial divide Obama is feeding, and Wright exemplifies?
This is the most racist stuff I have ever read. It’s not like I go looking for the stuff but a conscious and curious person finds things throughout life. This is much worse than what Wright said. Or rather, it is less nuanced.
“Destruction of the white enemy.” This could be right out of the recruiting doctrines of the Nation of Islam.
Are all Muslim’s terrorists?
Of course not.
Wright is off his nut, but his is a sect. Be careful not to label all AA’s as subscribing to Wright’s philosophy.
And AA’s DO have legitimate grievances.
Anyone want to purchase a “Black Power” Obama coffee mug?
They are all the rage at Cafepress.com
Just do a little Googlin’.
You weren’t kidding.

Oh My God
I have had the feeling for a long time that he is a front for somone.
Do you suppose……..?
Interesting how he mentioned his own white grandmother as racist, but says nothing of his white grandfather.
And what is the deal with his mother, and father?
yikes!
I mean, I really feel for the guy. That would be a bizarre and very painful, if not confusing experience to have only white parents or guardians who do not fully comprehend racism.
But he’s got this gigantic blind spot. He marries an angry black woman, and is dumbfounded this black nationalist hate speech is causing such a media uproar.
Kind of fascinating, or glaring, from a psychological point of view.
As Glenn Fry said, “I’d like to find his Inner Child and kick its little ass.”
I seriously wonder if he has a problem with white women. And resents his white mother and white grandmother.
Ya think?
I think Obama’s got a problem with all women. It makes sense if you read his books. His mother made me angry, she has an affair with a married man from Africa, over forty years ago, when that was big taboo. You know the family suffered over that one. Then she goes on to marry again and drags Obama to Indonesia without any thought about his education, his social life, his family. It’s always about her and her adventures. When he becomes a burden, she ships him off to his grandparents, essentually choosing her husband over her kid. That’s how it would feel to a child anyway, like abandonment.
Wrong about the mother. See my long post below.
She didn’t have an affair with Obama’s Dad; she married him. But later found out he was already married , with 2 children, in Kenya. She just never told Barak that, not wanting to diminish his Dad.
She didn’t abandon him in Indonesia. He BEGGED her to leave him in Hawaii with his grandparents, and she reluctantly agreed. But she paid for his prep school education and kept in regular written communication with him all the way through.
Obama’s book is selectively told, through the prism of his own prejudices.
Mom is not to blame. It is Obama’s inability to blame his Black father for anything that is his own psychological crippling.
Barak’s Dad deserted him, and never asked about him again. Died an unemployed abusive alcoholic in Kenya, with multiple wives and children scattered all over the landscape.
Obama’s PRIDE couldn’t admit that in either one of his books.
He blamed Mommy instead.
Very interesting interpretation. Where are you getting this information if not from his book?
British press, BBC.
They just report the facts, and not the spin.
Our press probably knew all of this, but suppressed it.
Obama had a political motive when writing that autobiography, and his selective use of his own history speaks volumes about what that motive was.
Dreams of My Father? Puuuleeeeze.
And lynches Granny on national television. He is a highly traumatized individual. It seems he might have a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome.
Oh please. He’s just a jerk, not a psycho.
like abandonment… From this Judgement and Loyalties issue flow.
If you want to play cat’s cradle, I think it’s his Dad he had the problem with, transferred to his Mom.
(Just like a little terrorist, really, attacking those less able to fight back, because it’s too risky to risk more rejection from Dad…)
Oh you’re good. And don’t make fun of my name!
From what I have read of Obama’s childhood, he has suffered serious abandonment trauma. I think you are right about the father issues especially. I think both Rezko and Wright are significant father figures for the adult Obama. Look what ugly, but powerful figures they turned out to be. His book was “Dreams From my Father.” Why has he been so desperate to find a father? I think I read an excerpt from the book where Obama cries at his father’s graveside when he visits Kenya. His father left him when he was a very young child and never saw him again. Who is it now he is telling painful stories about that has caused him pain? Poor old grandmother who helped raise and educate him.
This man needs psychological help more than he needs to be president. He is damaged goods. I do not want that in charge of one of the world’s super powers.
Yikes - he seeks out not just powerful men, but ugly powerful men.
This is going to get bad…
I don’t want to go there. Mainly because I don’t understand enough about his situation.
OK, now that I see him talk about his white grandmother’s racism - holy smokes, that pain is still so raw and fresh with him! He spoke of her in the present tense as if she’s still alive (is she?)
Juan Willams gets it.
Yes, she is alive.
NEW FLASH!! THIS JUST IN:
Granny Dunham, grandmother of Senator Barack Obama has been rushed to an unknown hospital where she is listed in critical condition after suffering a major mea culpa meltdown. Paramedics report they had to pry Granny’s fingers from the universal remote control as the “forward” button got stuck between her thumb and index finger.
Take it in and sort it through, Fleaflicker, however difficult that is.
Obama’s mother married an elegant, charming, Kenyan man who came over here to get an education (Harvard PHD in Economics) who was incredibly self-confident. Obama born, Dad goes to Harvard, leaving Mom & baby with parents. Mom finds out Dad is already married to a Kenyan woman and already has 2 children with her…thus, a bigamist in this country. Mom divorced Dad, Dad goes home to wife and children in Kenya for his “glorious career.”
Mom does not want to diminish the boy’s Dad image, so never tells the boy about Dad’s previous marriage; tells the boy Dad was obligated to return to help his country become “stronger.”
Mom does not go with Dad, but does not tell boy why for his own sake.
(If you were that little boy , and heard no negatives about Dad, wouldn’t you blame Mom?)
Mom marries Indonesian, moves, with boy, overseas, makes sure he attends private Catholic funded school for upper class, sacrifices to be sure he has the best. Marriage fails, returns to America (Hawaii), parents move in to help raise the grandchild they were lovingly devoted to.
Mother decides to return to Indonesia for her own social work career, boy begs to stay with grandparents, Mom & grandparents agree. Mom helps grandparents financially while overseas, paying for upscale prep school for the boy, while grandparents scale down to a small 2 bedroom apartment so the boy can have everything he needs. He is, contrary to the stories in his book, quite popular, well-liked, smoked a little pot, but no cocaine or drug problems according to closest friends, star of the basketball team, quite accepted as a friend by whites and others, living a happy high school life.
Dad, meanwhile, has lost his government Kenya job, fathered multiple children out of wedlock, courted another white missionary woman who he also married without telling about other wives, becomes a physically violent alcoholic who this white wife finally leaves, after broken bones and bruises. Dad gets drunk one night, car crash, loses both legs, continues carousing, 2nd car crash, and is killed. Both wrecks, he’s drunk as a skunk.
After his death and burial, Obama wants to find out about this “noble” father, not knowing the facts. When he gets there and finds out the truth–the alcohol, the wives, the children, the failures—-he’s confused.
Goes off to Cambridge, then to Harvard, meets Michelle, marries.
He CHOOSES to move to Chicago, because there is a strong Black Church movement emphasizing strong Black men, and he CHOOSES to attend Wright’s church and bonds with him as his first Black male role model.
Ok, I’m no shrink, but I think Barak is angry at Daddy, angry at Mommy for not telling him his Dad was a shithead (although as a Mom, you can see why she chose not to), and rather than reject his Dad, he blames Mom and Grandmom.
Thus, they’re much easier to throw under the bus than the males in his life like Daddy or Uncle.
Psychologically, if he throws Daddy or Uncle, he’s got nothing.
Well, he DOES have plenty, but he THINKS he’s got nothing.
He’s not strong. He’s WEAK.
He always had love and support and encouragement and “ruby slippers.”
He rejected that.
And then, hypocritically, he writes an autobiography called “Dreams of My Father.”
Had he possessed any good judgement at all, he would have titled that book “Dreams Actually Nurtured by My White Mother and Grandmother,” in honor of what he knew they had been for him.
But that didn’t fit with the lifestyle in Chicago/Trinity Church that he had chosen, so he chose otherwise.
Giving his white mother and grandmother the credit they deserved would not have gained him AA votes in Chicago or South Carolina.
Rev. Wright is now his “family.”
Excellent take. Wish this could be a post at NoQuarter.
Don’t you think the sleazy, but powerful Rezko is a father figure too?
Probably.
But Obama is definitely an easy mark for older men who play the father-figure with a bit of flattery or praise. Think Kennedy, Daschle, and Kerry , too.
A man so eager for recognition would be WEAK in the White House. Easily led, easily influenced.
I would like to see a post like yours extended as a topic too. It may come across as some sort of parlor game, but it rings so true.
I don’t know why, but I thought Obama had family in Chicago, and that is how Rezko found him, heard about him, a friend of a friend.
So Rezko was just reading the Harvard Review when he discovered Obama was elected editor, visited Cambridge, and offered him a job?
Sounds fishy, now. I wonder what the real story is, here?
Auchi had served on the board of the Kennedy School of government, but I thought that was post Obama.
My understanding is that Michelle had family in Chicago.
Obama’s only family was Mom, Grandparents, and half sister in Hawaii. All Kenyan relatives in Kenya.
If you find out anymore, let me know too, please.
Very similar to Bush in that way:
Bush also is an easy mark for older men who flatter him, while projecting an aura of great personal strength to others.
In both cases, I think close to the surface anger is mistaken for resolute character.
Agree, Mark.
And both of their “autobiographies” are selectively manipulated to promote their political image for personal gain.
Dubya’s autobiography was full of crap, just like Obama’s is.
Fascinating story. I would love to know your source(s). It always puzzled me why he would write a book about his father who left him. But I suppose the fact that he had “dreams” about his father is ok. I don’t want to criticize someone for not having a stable childhood because one parent left him. In this case it seems both of his parents deserted him.
I would say father is also idealized,(in the manner of a child) but of course, anyone who has been abandoned by a parent feels tremendous anger, self doubt, and self blame.
He transfers his rage toward his father to women, and Mom, because the ideal of the father cannot be spoiled, otherwise forcing Obama to confront his father’s feelings of indifference.
And that’s too painful, and too frightening.
Childhood fear of abandonment has to be one of the greatest fears humans can harbor, the sense of being deserted as a small child.
And Obama’s father rejected him.
How on EARTH can you justify saying “both parents left him?”
The only stable, consistent relationship he HAD as a child was with his white mother and grandparents.
His mother didn’t leave him to return to Indonesia. He BEGGED her to leave him behind in Hawaii, and she did what she thought was right for HIM, not HER.
Obama can’t twist that crap to make it look like she abandoned him, just because he can’t admit it was his Black father who actually DID abandon him, never giving his existence another thought.
Of course he cried at his father’s grave. But that’s because he had just found out from his Kenyan relatives that what he THOUGHT his father was, never was.
Certainly, a man like Rev. Wright filled in the empty spaces in Obama’s need for a strong Black male role model, a spiritual mentor, an “uncle.”
But that was NEVER Mom’s fault.
He’s blaming his white family for his Black family’s failures, completely avoiding MLK’s admonition of “content of their character.”
And that’s a cowardly cop-out.
I honestly don’t know the truth in all of this. As I asked once before I ask again. What is the source of your information?
Flea, the new diary posted with Wikipedia’s entry on Obama’s grandmother has many sources at bottom describing his “half-truths” about his childhood. Read some of those, from Chicago Tribune, SunTimes, and international press, particularly Kenya contacts.
British press has reported on this stuff extensively, but the stories hardly ever make it to AMerica’s round-the-clock TV news.
This is not my “interpretation.” These are facts, as described by journalists’ actual contacts with the people Obama mentions in his books.
NONE of his high school friends thought he was a drug user…just smoked a little pot. NONE of them said he was “shunned” due to his race; in fact, they describe him as a happy, popular, Basketball star.
Obama’s versions of that childhood were written for a political purpose to bond him to Wright’s and Chicago’s Black community.
Half the drama-queen stuff he put in there isn’t true.
INCLUDING his grandmother’s “racism.” She was frightened ONE TIME by a black beggar who was physically aggressive at the bus stop. But never showed that consistently with his other friends.
Obama USED that one-time grandmother fear for her safety at the bus stop to LABEL his devoted, loving white grandmother as a racist.
It’s manipulative, and untrue.
Obama seems to have a real problem with older white women. He told a group of young people that he could not concern himself with older women because they have had their chance and younger women are whats important now. Hello??? Older women are still here Mr. O. We are not easily fooled and we aren’t going to vote for you. No wonder you are so ticked off you won’t let Florida have a revote. So much for Democracy — ah yeah we had our chance at Democracy and its time to try something new. We should just trust BO to lead us to the promiseland or somewhere–what the hell.
Seriously? Source?
His grandmother CONFESSED - i.e. said in private about her ‘fear of black men’, probably acknowledging with guilt and shame that what she harbored was not acceptable to he conscience.
Rev. Wright, on the other hand, blasted his view over the speakers in PUBLIC and sold them for the whole world to see his radical, unapologetic racist stance.
And Obama just equated those two?
Yes, the two are not even close to being equal. Wright not only blasted his racist over loudspeakers, he had it videotaped and offered for sale.
Now that’s audacity.
Don’t forget how he compared Ferraro to Wright in order to minimize his toxic rantings.
And add that to his throwing his grandmother under the bus to protect Wright. It all adds up to a person that will say anything to anyone to get ahead.
I can only hope the people of Penn, slap Obama down so hard he doesn’t get up.
>>> Now that’s audacity.
Marketing oneself, no matter how much an ass, has worked well for: GW Bush, Donald Trump…shall I go on?
And given how his mother, their daughter, was treated, and watching the father reject, abandon Obama, I would think they’d be very angry at Obama, Sr.
He was a bigamist.
In all fairness, simon, since I am the one who told you all he was a bigamist….
In Obama’s Muslim culture (don’t get your religious panties in a wad) in Africa, multiple wives were quite acceptable.
But not TELLING Obama’s mother he was already married when he married her, was indeed a “deal-breaker,” and I, too, can completely understand how his mother’s parents felt betrayed by their son-in-law.
It speaks to their love for Obama that they never told him any of that, not wanting to “trash his heritage,” and that he didn’t KNOW about the multiple wives, multiple children, abusive alcoholism, etc, until he got to Kenya and found out on his own.
Until that time, Obama had idealized his Dad as a “great African leader in his country with a PHD.”
His mistake is in blaming his white family for the very abandonment he had experienced from his Black family.
One can easily see how Rev. Wright filled that void, and facilitated Obama’s denial.
If through the use of your tactics Sen. Clinton somehow manages to get the nomination & goes on to win in the general election, my best guess is, through Bush’s faith-based initive, she’ll funnel big bucks to Trinity Church for their daycare, homeless shelter, hiv/aids outreach, senior programs & affordable housing initiative. But that would be OK, right? ‘Cause then it’be Reconcilliation Money…
(correction) Faith-based Initiative
So Obama was FOR not hearing what trash Rev. Wright talked until he was AGAINST not having heard him?
Vice versa?
Flip flop?
LOL!
Obama listened to this nutcase for 20 years and couldn’t stand one line from his grandma. Seems Obama has issues. He should go on Oprah. Rich AA men and the white women who raised them.
Several days ago I visited the website for Wright’s church, Trinity United Church of Christ. Following a link to their bookstore, I discovered dozens, maybe scores of dvds for sale from Wright’s sermons. Tonight, there are maybe 2 or 3 available. The February 17 sermon is gone. The site has been scrubbed. Except for one or two instances, its like he was never there.
Christopher Hitchens wrote about this “flamboyant” Minister Wright and the church’s website months ago, December I believe.
Amazing it took them this long to pull the sermon videos from their site. They’re truly surprised at the uproar over all these video clips.
Ah, the Beauty of the Internet. EVERYTHING is Virtual.
Who knew Al Gore was that smart when he invented it?
Doesn’t surprise me in the least. This is a vast cover up. If no one else can buy the dvds and the media won’t report them the story goes away.
All those videos are now gone becasue the Republican smear 527 committees and right wing talk radio hosts bought them to make attack ads.
Sold out! LOL.
What stands out for me in Obama’s speech is how misogynistic he is. He really has some issues with women. He doesn’t even mention his mother. He critisizes the grandmother who raised him while refusing to denounce Rev Wright because “he’s family.”
Obama doesn’t even mention black women at all in his speech on race. He won’t even put the words “black” and “woman” together. He even calls his wife a “black American”. She sounds like a statistic! It struck me as a really detached way to talk about the woman you supposedly cherish.
He also specifcally mentions the glass ceiling a “white” woman faces. Then he talks about the economic inequality “black men” face. It’s like black women don’t even exist.
Rev Wright also bashed Hillary. Obama is supposed to be the new kind of candidate, the one who doesn’t like divisive politics. And yet he doesn’t apologize to Hillary on behalf of Rev Wright. He doesn’t even mention it. He completely disregards the sexism of Rev Wright’s words towards Hillary. No she’s never been passed up by a cab or called the N word, but she’s got a nutcracker named after her and 527 against her registered as the C word. In fact, it’s hard to think of a word or a personal attack that Hillary hasn’t had thrown at her.
OK didn’t even catch all of this.
Yeah - where are the demands for the Obama campaign to apologize for saying “if you can’t run your own house, you can’t run the White House”?
And just imagine what Obama’s daughters are learning about being female by listening to the Jeremiah Wright trash.
Michelle should know better than to allow her daughters to be involved in such an environment.
Michelle should know better
She believes in this crap or she would be long gone.
Did you catch this phrase from the nutcase preacher? He said that Jesus was a black guy he liked very much and that the Romans of the time were Italians like Rudy Giuliani. In addition to Wright being a bigot he is also an idiot.
Maybe I am reading this wrong but he seems to be saying that his wife has relatives that were raped by whites.
What he doesn’t mention is that his relatives owned slaves. So his daughters have that running through their blood as well.
Obama’s father is descended from Black ARABS who traveled through Africa running slave-traders caravans and later settled in Africa when slavery was abolished.
But the ARAB background is why his middle name is Hussein: to signify his father’s lineage.
Now don’t panic….that’s not a wingnut Muslim/Arab comment.
It’s just a fact that his father was not considered “African;” he was considered “Arab/African.”
Once again, info from British press, with documented sources from Kenya.
There is slave-trading in his Dad’s Kenyan heritage. FACTS.
What a mess his DNA must be.
Good eye! I find him incredibly misogynistic. An above poster claims he told a group of young people that he could not be concerned with older women. They had their chance. I can’t wait till black women get wind of this. Oh he will be toast!!!!
I don’t think it’s fair to just assume that Obama’s grandmother made racist statements. Just because he said she did is no kind of evidence considering his shaky relationship with the truth.
Interesting that Obama’s defense of Wright is that he’s done good things too. That sounds suspiciously close to what Imus’s defenders said, who cares that he’s a hatemonger, you’ll just have to get over it and embrace him because he’s against the way and gives to charity.
Obama’s grandmother was DEVOTED to him and spent her entire adult life caring for him and making sure he had everything he needed.
Notice Obama never denigrates his grandfather?
I think Obama’s problem is with women, from unresolved –and unfair—anger at his Mom.
The man desperately needs decent counseling.
And Jeremiah Wright doesn’t count.
What I find amazing is that Obama is ashamed of his white grandmother’s “racism:, but has nothing to say about his Kenyan Grandfather who wrote his mother’s parents a long hateful letter upon learning his son was marrying their daughter. According to the Chicago Tribune
So, while his mother’s family was not happy about the marraige, his father’s family demonstrated much more racist attitudes than his mother’s did. He does not hold that hatred of his mother against his Kenyan grandparents.
Thank you for this; I had not seen this article.
The Chicago Tribune and the BBC have done yoeman’s work researching the conflicts between what Obama SAYS in his so-called autobiography, and what actually happened in his childhood.
Much of the MYTH of Obama is just that: MYTH.
It seems your link does not work. Has it been disappeared or was it accidentally not posted fully?
Go to the Chicago Tribune website, Flea.
They have extensive Obama articles about his family history and legislative record.
I don’t think it’s fair to just assume that Obama’s grandmother made racist statements. Just because he said she did is no kind of evidence considering his shaky relationship with the truth.
This is true. Good point!
More to the pattern of misogyny- look what he did to Alice Palmer- an African American woman who was a civil rights activist turned politician. She mentored Obama, called him her sucessor, but when she ran for a political office he wanted, he stabbed her in the back. Yeah Obama is rife with misogyny.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070403obama-ballot,0,1843097.story
Yes that is a must read. The journalists in Chicago have him sized up all right. What I also found curious is that none of his initial campaigns were much more than walkovers, his opponents mysteriously disappearing after allegations of this and that. That this should happen once is happenstance; that it happen more than once is close to enemy action as the saying goes.
[...] Throw Mamma From the Train [Updated] [...]
One thing clear from the WRight scandal, is that Obama is not vetted and not ready for prime time. He knew there was a problem with Wright but stayed in that church for 20 years. He didn’t even bother to have his people check Wright’s videos that were on sale at the church’s website! Fox simply bought them and so did other media.
Obama wasn’t prepared for the tapes to be played on tv: he had no answer ready. He panicked, went on live tv and stumbled around, told dumb lies about not having been in church to hear them, about his church being “not particularly controversial” … made it a puzzle and treasure hunt for reporters to find him in the audience on the tapes…. And now finally he reverses himself and says he did hear such things. And he’s repeated his closeness with Wright, ’spiritual advisor.’
Now when he has time to get his speechwriter to write him a speech and has a teleprompter to read it from — he throws his white grandmother under the bus for being scared of rough young men on the street. As though her fear were the equivalent of what Wright preaches! If she’d heard Wright, she’d be MORE scared!
If he has any hope left for the future, he’d better drop out of the race now and go hide in Indonesia and hope this is forgotten by 2016.
Truer words could not be spoken.
I must admit that I liked Obama’s speech. I was even beginning to feel that Obama wasn’t such a bad guy after all. Then the rumble started up all over again:
Guess what? After that, I am once more so thoroughly repulsed and angry at the Obama campaign that I want to throw a brick at someone!
I don’t know what is wrong with the Obama people. It’s as though they want a coronation. Heaven forbid that the Democratic Party actually try to field the candidate who is most likely to win in November! And don’t let all those people in Florida and Michigan have ANY say in the process! It just wouldn’t be “fair” to actually allow ALL the people who voted have a say in determining who becomes the Democratic nominee in November! *dripping in sarcasm*
I could understand the problem with Michigan since Hillary Clinton was the only name on the ballot. But disenfranchising Florida makes no sense at all! ALL the candidates were on the ballot, and ALL the candidates abided by the pledge to not campaign in Florida so what is Obama afraid of? The last time I looked, Obama has 1189.5 pledged delegates while Clinton has 1123.5 pledged delegates so Obama is assured of 58.8% of the necessaray delegates to win the nomination while Clinton is assured of 55.5% of the necessary delgates to win the nomination. Now, clearly, the media keep reporting “projected delegates and super delegates” which changes almost daily with these delegates who can actually change their minds doing EXACTLY that–like John Lewis did when he threw Hillary under the bus after all the attacks of racism issued against BOTH Bill and Hillary Clinton for completely innocuous remarks–like Hillary’s comment about the role that LBJ played in civil rights–a truly pivotal event since the Democratic Party paid an enormous political price for doing the right thing! In summary, BOTH candidates are over 40% short of the number of delegates necessary to win the nomination! If Obama really had such overwhelming support, he would already have locked up the nomination. It shows colossal arrogance for the Obama people to keep calling for Hillary’s head when their candidate isn’t much closer to locking up the nomination than Clinton. Besides, what other skeletons are going to pop out of Obama’s closet?
Another thing that I am SICK TO DEATH of hearing is this claim that the Clinton campaign is throwing the “kitchen sink” at Obama. Hillary has actually conducted a pretty civil campaign–at least compared to the political campaigns that I have witnessed for nearly 50 years. If Hillary had really been throwing the “kitchen sink” at Obama, Obama’s relationship with Rezko would not be buried on the umpteenth page of the newspaper. If Hillary were really going for the jugular, Obama’s relationship with the nuclear industry would be front page. Instead, the worst thing that I’ve heard out of Hillary’s mouth was her assertion that she and John McCain had a lifetime of experience in foreign policy while Obama made a speech, which is certainly true! It seeems that these people who keep talking about the “dirty tactics” that Hillary Clinton uses seem to have VERY short memories and are apparently blinded to the “scorched earth” campaign that Obama has been waging. I am yet to see Obama pass up a chance to make a misogynistic reference to Hillary Clinton. And I am STILL incensed about the attacks of racism made against Gerry Ferraro! If Obama really believes that Gerry Ferraro was making a racist comment, then he is too thin-skinned to be vying for the highest office in the land. We’ve had a thin-skinned prick for the past 7+ year, and his thin skin and inflexibility have driven our country right off a cliff!
BTW, has anyone else gotten sick and tired of hearing blowhards like Chris Matthews claim that Hillary’s “victories” are because Rush Limbaugh urged his 2 listeners to cross over and vote for Hillary to cause trouble for the Democrats yet Republicans who crossing over to vote for Obama are doing so because they really “like” him. Now, let me get thie straight. Republicans are crossing over to vote for Obama because they really WANT the guy to become president, but Republicans are crossing over to vote for Clinton because they really LOATHE her and really prefer John McCain! I keep watching these fools on MSNBC making these wild charges to see if their heads explode! It’s the most tortured logic that I have witnessed since the Republicans claimed that Bill Clinton was the “Great Satan” because he fibbed about getting a blow job from a fat intern who had flashed her thong at him!
I once posted on a website with Obamabots that I just couldn’t vote for Obama because I hadn’t seen any tears from him after Katrina.
Their heads literally exploded.
Yes, I’m terribly naughty.
Welcome to “Why I hate Barack Obama and won’t vote for him in November” Country!
His supporters are simply HILLARY-HATERS!
Notice how they don’t engage in pro-Obama-speak.
It’s always and only about how they hate Hillary.
Uniters my ass!!! It’s disgusting!
I don’t understand how Michigan could be disenfranchised as Obama took his name off from the ballot to diminish the victory he knew Hillary would have there. And to suck up to the other states.
Because the DLC, along with Donna Brazille, hate Hillary, and actually WANT Obama to have an advantage.
Obama is claiming it’s “up to the DNC.”
The Michigan legislature is willing to fund a revote and has an approval from the Clinton campaign, but not from the Obama campaign. They say that if Obama doesn’t agree, it won’t happen.
All Obama has to do is drag his feet, claiming innocence playing like it’s the DNC’s responsibility, until time runs out.
Then he wins, and he knows it.
So does Donna Brazille.
Excllent post Fleaflicker! Great comments, too. But Patrick Henry when you said this:
You are right..Many Races..Creeds..Ethnic Groups have legitimate Complaints..even Whites..The Poor and Middle Class..The Elderly..Our Service Folks and Vets..
why did you exclude women from that list? We still make only $.75 for every dollar men make and the vast majority of adults who are impoverished and hungry in this country are women.
why did you exclude women from that list?
Good point, Rosaleen!
Very good point! And thanks.
ROSALEE..
You are Right..I should have and Normally do.. I have been a Strong advocate for Women here and in my Lifetime..I agree with your points and I was thinking about Womens Rights and Equality when I listed the Various Groups..
BTW..I am a Delegate for Hillary..I admire Her Work..her Intelligence and I know she is MOST Qualifed to be President..I suspect some of those who Oppose Her..do so because they dont Care about her Qualifications..They are Just Biased because she is a Woman..
Or they think it would be COOL to make BARAK President..rather He is qualified or NOT..
I can’t believe my sane half is making me watch “The Fog”. oops I mean KO……
The lead story was straight out of Frankenstein, with the locals all riled and heading for the castle…
It makes you wonder, with Dick out there saying “So!”, smiling with a shit eating grin, why the denigration of Hillary is the lead story.
This afternoon I had the unexpected occasion to encounter an “anybody but Hillary” person (ex navy) and an Obama supporter in the same room. Both are very intelligent people. It started out with the BO supporter asking me what I thought of Obama. Before responding, I asked the person how much he had read about BO and to my surprise this person had not read of any of the Chicago politics and BO.
Offering to send him a Suntimes artical, I told him I could not vote for BO because of the residents left with no heat and running water…I was trying to keep it short, hoping to gently draw the person in to an exchange.
The BO supporter, did not ask what I was talking about, instead the “anybody but Hillary” chimed in, stating Hillary was a lier. I responded by pointing out to the Obama supporter, that the “anybody but Hillary” person was going to be making an emotional decision.
The “anybody but Hillary” person looked frustrated when I asked him WHY he hated Hillary. He said, 1) because Hillary came out of no where when Bill Clinton was elected with health care. 2) Her campaign made Obama look darker in a TV ad. He said “It’s true!, go to factcheck…”
The Obama person then mentioned he was concerned with Hillary’s “high negitives” and her ability to win the GE.
As the Obama supporter was leaving the room “Don’t send me any links”…
A wierd vibe hung in the room afterwards; the smell of very charged burnt kool-aid.
Amazing, aren’t they?
It’s like Bush’s little wingnuts have become body-snatchers in the Obamabots.
You can’t even talk to them, really.
You have my sympathy.
You should pop in at YouTube and see the Obamabot comments. I think it’s fairly certain now: Obama has completely destroyed the Democrat party. It’s not just this - this is just the latest in a series of incidents. Frankly it’s HIM. It’s all rubbish from this point on. Emigration anyone?
Thanks, Kourian. Btw, how do you see the Obamabot comments on YouTube? Can you hook me up with a link? My blod pressure isn’t high enough yet!
I agree there does need to be a discussion about race. But a discussion is between TWO people. It has been my experience that blacks eventually say to non blacks that they have nothing to say as they have never been called n—-r. End of discussion. It has also been my experience that the AfroAmerican community does not really accept as valid the sufferings and discrimination suffered by others. As long as you have a black population that only speaks freely in the black community. And whites that don’t feel free to share honestly this isn’t going to get fixed. Personally I’m more interested in who will get us OUT of Iraq, fix the economy and unravel the healthcare mess. I believe that is Hillary. Oh and as for Granny, she didn’t cop to anything Jesse Jackson hasn’t.
Joe Klein: Jeremiah Wright = Obama Father Figure.
YEP.
But he really did have a loving, devoted, WHITE grandfather.
But Obama CHOSE Wright instead.
Power Line blog (which may have stolen Fleaflicker’s line):
Throw grandma under the bus — When seeking to extricate himself from the tight spot in which he has been placed by his long association with the spiritual leadership of Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama hauled in his (living) maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham.
More from Power Line:
I still can’t believe he used his own living grandmother like that. I am appalled. Powerline notes the same thing:
I seriously doubt they stole my line. But I’d be flattered.
I understand why black leaders want to reframe these values as “black values”. That is probably the best, if not only way to undercut the belief by so many in the poorer black communities that living by these values is “acting white”. But there is absolutely no excuse for Obama’s ignoring the radical anti-American and anti-white bigotry that Reverend Wright spewed. Obama not only tolerated it himself, he allowed his children to be exposed to this venom. This is a message that is not only divisive it is also deeply harmful to the people in that congregation. The last thing they need is to be encouraged to adopt a victim mentality.
Obama continued to be a member of this church even though his big ambition was to eventually run for the presidency which is just bizarre. As is evident in his house deal with Rezko, Obama obviously thinks he is untoucable. If he is the nominee he - and his supporters - are in for a rude awakening.
The media does him no favors by enabling him. The best way for Obama to wake up and smell the coffee is for him to take the hits he so obviously deserves. That would either make or break him. Right now he is being coddled like some precocious child prodigy with overprotective parents and we all know how well that works out.
Interesting stuff about Obama’s hatred of women… especially of white women.
Can I play along in the game of “Shrink-for-a-day”?
Think back to Obama’s dismissive “You’re likeable enough, Hillary” comment in NH, the turned back at the SOTU address, and some of the photos from debates where his barely concealed disgust for Senator Clinton is on display.
This man hates Hillary, and that hatred fuels his campaign, filtered through Axelrod and the others.
Hillary stands inbetween him and what he wants (deserves?).
So, Wright is his Daddy. But does he see Hillary as his Mommy?
I really think that he does hate Hillary and older white women. It may not be a conscious thing but it does seem evident from his attitudes and comments. He could just be screwed up mentally. Happens to a lot of folks from broken homes or stressful childhoods. Look what happened to Michael Jackson. Maybe Obama is fighting against Hillary because if we had Universal Health Care he might have an excuse to have to deal with these issues with a shrink.

Comparing his grandmother’s excited utterances to hate speech shows how shallow and insincere Obama is. The man is intelligent but when it comes to race he is much more closely alligned with his racist minister then he will admit. His grandmother’s incidental speech in his presence which is not meant to convey hate is not the same as “God Damn America” or a celebration that the “black man” is somehow ruling over the white man by murdering three thousand Americans. This man is a fraud and should not receive any votes from those who champion civil rights and the constitution. Hitler did everything socially that Wright did and he had his apologists just like Obama.
