Wright Speech “Ammo” for GOP
By SusanUnPC on March 19, 2008 at 8:46 AM in Barack Obama, Race, Republicans, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.
Long before it occurred to anyone else, Larry Johnson has been analyzing why Republicans have been quietly salivating at the prospect of Obama as their general election opponent. Read Larry’s “Why Are the Rightwing Republicans Hyping Obama?,” from December 2007. (Why have the ‘wingers been excoriating Hillary? To get her out of the way.)
The latte elite pundits have opined that it was Hillary who is most divisive — despite repeated proof that she can win rural and blue-collar areas — while Obama represented “post-racial” America, a white-guilt-based theory that is more a product of their fantasies than reality. Now we have Newsday and Politico articles, quoted below, that point out how the GOP will take full advantage of Barack Obama’s problem with Rev. Wright if he is the general election nominee. (If you think the GOP just stumbled on the Rev. Wright problem, think again: They’ve known all about Wright for two years, at least, probably longer. And Rev. Wright’s tapes are sold to the public by Obama’s church.)
Suspend your disbelief for a moment, and listen to former House speaker Newt Gingrich’s bull’s-eye analysis of Obama’s Philadelphia speech. Again, agree or not, you have to admit that Gingrich describes the problems — “fundamentally intellectually dishonest” and “Obama never once had the courage” to confront Rev. Wright — better than just about anyone else has:
Bye, Bye Independents and Republicans for Obama: In “GOP sees Rev. Wright as pathway to victory,” Politico’s Jonathan Martin writes that “GOP strategists believe they’ve finally found an antidote to Obamamania”:
In their view, the inflammatory sermons by Obama’s pastor offer the party a pathway to victory if Obama emerges as the Democratic nominee. Not only will the video clips enable some elements of the party to define him as unpatriotic, they will also serve as a powerful motivating force for the conservative base.
In fact, the video trove has convinced some that, after months of praying for Hillary Clinton and the automatic enmity which she arouses, that they may actually have easier prey.
As I see it, having watched far too much of Rev. Wright the past few days, there are three explosive problems that Obama can’t orate away:
- Wright deeply insults every patriotic American;
- Wright is consumed by a toxic hatred that is frightening and repugnant; and
- Wright is batshit crazy — and no sane person would have anything to do with him, so why did Obama have anything to do with him?
Here’s what Newsday found:
“This is far and away the most damaging issue of the campaign for him, and his wonderful speech did nothing to make it go away,” said Whit Ayres, a longtime Republican pollster.
Obama, whose victories in mostly white states like Iowa and Wisconsin were powered by a multiracial coalition, has been on the defensive after release of a video showing Wright shouting “God damn America” during a sermon on racism.
Obama has tread lightly on the issue of race for fear of being marginalized as a “black candidate.” And it was a measure of his anxiety over the Wright controversy that he addressed race head-on during Tuesday’s hastily scheduled speech in the shadow of Constitution Hall.
[...]
Republicans pounced on the speech, saying Obama’s measured criticism didn’t go far enough and promising to invoke Wright early and often should Obama win the nomination.
“I think it’s an obligation of any opponent to use this issue, to make Reverend Wright a centerpiece of the campaign,” said Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford).
“His speech was disappointing and shameful,” King added. ” … This goes to the heart of who Barack Obama is. He’s trying to say he represents the 21st-century view on race and here he’s sticking up for this guy.”
Added pollster Ayres: “The problem is the contradiction between the fundamental message of the Obama campaign about bringing America together and Wright’s hate-filled, divisive message.” …
We must always keep in mind what Gingrich pointed out: It’s not like some GOP sleuth hunted to find those tapes. The tapes were SOLD WIDELY BY OBAMA’S OWN CHURCH.
Why did Obama and Axelrod never take care of this huge problem long ago? Did they really think they could pull the wool over our eyes that the 20-year close ties with Rev. Wright would not be revealed and taint Obama?

They let the Wright issue fester because of political inexperience. Unfortunately if you make race-baiting a cudgel to beat your opponent, the laws of politics dictate it will be used against you eventually. Better now than later.
The speech will give O-supporters some cover, but he’s lost potential voters. Only junkies will take the time to listen to the entire speech, folks have bigger problems to deal with–like the meltdown in the economy. Voters know he made it because he had to, not because he wanted to.

How astute.
Obama played upon white American guild to redeem a revolting reverend.
He is admitting the words unnerved him, but he remained at the church and made the man part of his campaign.
Perhaps the religious initiative money he was using to be a “grassroots organizer” has some connections to that fact.
He ever make earmarks requests for that kind of item to steer the Reverend’s way, since he seems to think Hillary’s earmark requests are so important an item?
You know, agitprop 101, accuse your opponent of the items that could be thought your weakness.
At this point, though, he has no credibilty, and everyone KNOWS his strategy.
So watching Obama is just like watching a slow motion train wreck..
Because the M$M let us down.
In January, I found out Obama’s church from Christopher Hitchens’ Slate article - ‘Identity Crisis.’
“Sen. Obama is a congregant of a church in Chicago called Trinity United Church of Christ. I recommend that you take a brisk tour of its Web site. Run by the sort of character that the press often guardedly describes as “flamboyant”—a man calling himself the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.—this bizarre outfit describes itself as “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian” and speaks of “a chosen people” whose nature we are allowed to assume is “Afrocentric.” Trinity United sells creationist books and its home page includes a graphic link to a thing called Goodsearch—the name is surmounted with a halo in its logo—which announces cheerily that “Every time you search or shop online! Our Church earns money.” Much or most of what Trinity United says is harmless and boring, rather like Gov. Mike Huckabee’s idiotic belief that his own success in Iowa is comparable to the “miracle” of the loaves and fishes, and the site offers a volume called Bad Girls of the Bible: Exploring Women of Questionable Virtue, which I have added to my cart, but nobody who wants to be taken seriously can possibly be associated with such a substandard and shade-oriented place.”
Christopher Hitchens appears mostly like a drunk on TV, but boy was he right this time. “Nobody who wants to be taken seriously can possibly be associated with such a substandard and shade-oriented place.”
I went to the Church website, and I knew at the time this could be trouble for Obama. That’s January, it took M$M two-month to report this. It’s really a shame on them.
Sort of like the lead up to the war. The MSM was selling the war but I watched foreign news and read beyond page one of newspapers to know that there were no WMDs in Iraq. I cannot put all the blame on the citizens because it is not easy to keep up with current events, maintain a job and a family. I am now a retiree and have the luxury of time to pay more attention and read foreign newspapers. The MSM gives us very little real news and they have been proven to be unreliable and corrupt. The Scooter Libby trial showed us that.
“Why did Obama and Axelrod never take care of this huge problem long ago? Did they really think they could pull the wool over our eyes that the 20-year close ties with Rev. Wright would not be revealed and taint Obama?”
Yep! Obama has become so enamored with HIMSELF, he must have figured this would all be swept right under the rug. They’ve been bracing themselves for the onslaught and hoping against hope that it would all just go away once he uttered some more of those flowery words. As Newt said (gosh, I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Newt on anything), repudiating after the fact is just weak.
“repudiating after the fact” — great pick-up, Sugar. Yup, it’s astonishing we’re nodding our heads at Newt. But, as I wrote in Fleaflicker’s post a few minutes ago, Fox News has actually been a lot more fair in its coverage than other networks. I doubt that Olbermann has had a single guest who is critical of Obama and Wright. But Fox News has had — I’ve lost count — numerous guests on who are pro-Obama and pro-Wright, and they haven’t shouted them down.
Example: Greta sent her regular panelist Ted ____ (forget his last name), who is a black attorney and former D.C. homicide detective, to Obama’s church and to see Obama’s speech in person. She let Ted describe the church and Obama very positively. She was wholly respectful of Ted’s view.
Fox, on the whole, has handled this incendiary news story, very responsibly… with all sides getting a chance to speak up, without rude interruptions.
Obama has never been in the national spotlight before. He’s led a politically charmed life without any bruising campaigns.
He was practically unopposed running for the Senate and has been a media darling since this campaign started.
But when you’re up on the big stage there is nowhere to hide and nowhere to run. At that level oppo research is a given and very thorough.
Obama used to be able to finesse things with lies, halftruths and denials.
Not anymore.
There are three talking points I am already thoroughly sick to death of:
1. This was a great speech and answered all of our questions. Um, if “all” means “none,” I guess that’s accurate. As was entirely predictable, Obama in his speech CHANGED THE SUBJECT. This is not about race relations, the history of slavery, “someone in the Hillary camp playing the race card ” (the obnoxious attempt to make this about Hillary by equating Ferraro with Wright was just plain repulsive,) or anything else except Obama’s willingness to LIE about his relationship with a hate monger.
2. If you don’t accept his explanation, its because you are a racist and you don’t understand the Black Experience in America. Obama was the son of a white woman from Kansas and spent much of his childhood in Hawaii. He went to magnet schools and Ivy League Colleges. He’s rich. He doesnt’ know crap about the Black Experience in America. That’s why he turned to Rev. Wright- he had to go out and borrow some from someone else in order to look authentic to his Chicago constituents.
3. If you keep talking about this, you are tearing the Party apart and paving the way for President McCain. Again, it’s ok to be completely sexist and bash Hillary from pillar to post, but if you ask legit. questions of Saint Barack, you are loading the GOP’s cannons for them. I call bullshit. It’s not too late to dump Barack and nominate the electable candidate. Anyone who wants to save the party, and the country, needs to take their head out of the sand and admit that Obama is toast in the fall. Rub the stardust out of your eyes and get real.
One sign of being a cultist, unfortunately, is being able to deny what is right in front of you. The Obama supporters who can deny what they’ve seen and heard in the past few days just astound and frighten me.
Your third point is the most important. I can’t tell you how many times the Cultists have used that line on me. We need to keep driving home the issue in my opinion.
Point #3 definitely. This is why the initial analysis of Obama:”Cult of Personality” was so important.
I use to frequent another blog but stopped as they became so toxic in their vitriol against Hillary and would not permit dialogue. Say what you will about No Quarter, they do not mind anyone coming over to voice their opinion and that’s how it should be. Occasionally, I lurk at this blog and last week they posted the Ferraro flap but no mention of Rev Wright as this story started seizing the airwaves. The reason why your observation of cultists is SO important is that as I read the comments about the post-Obama speech, they all fawned and cried over how beautiful and great the speech was. Then they went on to echo how Hillary will never get the nomination unless there is dirty Super Delegate politics – something the Obama camp has been promoting since his endorsements by Kennedy, Kerry, Caroline and others as Jesse Jackson, Jr. began strong-arming AA SDs and threatening them. The cultists refuse to acknowledge the impact the Rev Wright flap is having across America and especially within the Dem Party. They also don’t seem to notice that their numbers on that blog have sufficiently decreased as to render them irrelevant what correlation that may have to the real world in terms of actual Obama support. They simply live in their rose-colored glasses Obama World.
The initial reasoning behind the Dem Party bigs endorsement of Obama was due to what they believed was this huge momentum. THAT MOMENTUM IS OVER! He will not pick up any new converts. It’s more than clear that his electability quotient has nose-dived and he has virtually no chance of winning in Nov. But yet the cultists blame Hillary for dividing the party, for tearing apart the Dems chances of winning in Nov. No…. I don’t think so. Had the Party so-called elders just STFU and let the Primary Season play out, perhaps there would not have been all of this animosity. They must share the responsibility in the part they played in creating the division.
I am glad to have somewhere to come and share my views. I’m also over at savagepolitics.com.
There are only a handful of states left to vote. What else can we do to convince the DNC that Obama is toast and will bring our party down in Nov? I write almost every day to Nancy, Howard and others but the fix is in. They want Obama. We have to organize and take our country and party back! I am open to ideas.
Comment #3 struck me too. Do people really think that Rove and the Republicans need help from anyone to find and use anything that will destroy the Democratic Nominee? And they will not bother to make sure what they say is true the way Larry and Susan do. They’ll do the old “throw everything against the wall and see what sticks” bit. Of course having tapes of the Reverand is enormously helpful to them.
I find it doubtful that one speech, no matter how many pundidiots praise it will quiet this clammer.
I found his using his Grandmother, elderly and in ill health I hear, to try and find some excuse for Wright’s vitriol really repulsive. Kinda funny how he decided to talk about his “white” half and then portrayed Granny as racist.
I believe Obama camp does not have as many kool aide drinker as we might think..they have a very contrived, planned propaganda machine. They are using the youth..to do their bidding for them. They have swamped the netroots with a program of propaganda..they are using the old rove play book..they need a hand full of them on web sites to incite whatever their message is..they have run off many of the adults with bad behavior, nastiness, projection, and browbeating people.
It is the same game plan the bush camp used..only Bush used the fundies..Obama is using the youth..
but they have assembled teams to do this.
What i can’t understand is so many dems falling for it..didn’t we all see this crap from Team Bush in 2000-2001 and then again 2003-2004.
How can we be so fooled , even if it is by our own?
Now i will say..Hillary was slow on the uptake..But i think her team has finally caught on, but are still slow.
On eof her people was on the Peter B collins show yesterday , and Peter B Collins was going after Hillary about the 3 am commercial..well i kept waiting for Hillary’s guy to say..hey Obama did almost the same commercial..but the Hillary guy
( sorry i didn’t catch his name) but the guy missed his opportunity..and let it just go by the way side..HBillary better get people on top of this stuff..when they get the few opportunities they have gotten..they miss their chance completely.
They seem almost incompetent..or totally lacking what is really going on to them and being done to them…
Obama has one hell of a propaganda team working for them…that needs to be met with equal or better responses..since Hillary gets alot less good media time!
It almost seems like a minor league team playing with the major league team.
Hillary should have been all over the Michigan votes and Florida votes last week..she should pound them with it..every time she or her surrogates go on any media!
She should smear Obama’s face with the fact that he is the one disenfranchising the voters of Michigan and Florida…and his surrogates, Den and Donna Brazile..go after them..get in their faces..don;t let their propaganda machine fill the internet and airways with the bullshit they have been spewing out..get in their damn faces!
ok..that is just my 2 cents..
I think the niceness has to stop..Hillary needs to get tough..
Obama has been playing stinking dirty..i don’t say you have to play dirty..but play tough..truthful and tough!
opps some typos..i mean Dean and Donna Brazile..sorry in a hurry here..
Oh and Talk left had on it..that Obama had promised the youth that he would decriminalize Marijuana..and then he renegged on it..
now the Obama camp says they weren’t clear on what “decriminalization ” meant..oh come on this is the same guy who didn’t know what buttons he was pushing for his state senate votes?
I disagree.
If the trend holds, Obama collapses, either way, he is clearly not enabled to be the next President.
It wasn’t as dramatic a moment as Tower One collapsing, but you know, the point was to expose him, cripple him.
And here is the irony, in 2007, Obama called for Don Imus to be fired.
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politi…=3031317& page=1
My own belief is that Obama’s association with the radical and racist Wright is going to be the biggest “gimme” in the history of modern Presidential politics.
Why don’t you just spot the Republicans four touchdowns before the game starts?
You’re right.
If you were looking at an Obama/McCain contest could you think of a single state that would go ino Obama’s column once this campaign begins?
This is the reason for super delegates - to bring rational thought to this process and make sure the party has a competitve nominee.
People like Chris Matthews evidently don’t know Americans outside his latte crowd in DC, NY, and Boston. This as the dumbest speech a nominee could give, given what the actual situation is.
Axelrod’s Chicago Machine will give Obama Illinois. I live in Illinois and there’s no doubt the man will take this state over McCain. He could commit murder on National TeeVee and he’d still win Illinois. Trust me. He’s idolized here.
Illinois may very well be the ONLY state he wins though….after this Wright racist crap, other states won’t be as forgiving.
Hell, Obama has probably won Illinois already. It is Illinois, after all. The votes have been manufactured by “the (political) machine”, and are probably all buried inside of the codes of the voting machines, just waiting for the polls to close on November 4th, so that the “results” can be announced (even if Obama is not the party’s official nominee).
Why is it that Obama NEVER speaks out when he hears racist and unacceptable remarks? He is way too passive for a POTUS!. He just “cringed” when he heard his grandmother. He just sat silent and continued to donate huge sums to Rev Wright. How would one know he wasn’t against racism? All talk, after the fact.
My grandfather was a racist. My mother hated that aspect in my grandfather. She told him that he either changed his tune and shut up about that hangup of his or he would not SEE his grandchildren. Later, I and all of my siblings were very close to my grandfather. I never knew he was a racist until my mother told me about this conversation she had with my grandfather when I was an adult. My mother was not a passive individual. She spoke up. Obama is a coward.
Your mother has the character the junior senator from Illinois lacks. And the judgment.
I don’t think that Rev. Wright is really that important an issue.
But lots of people do, and that’s Obama’s problem. Rev. Wright will not go over well in middle-class America, and he will motivate the GOP base, which has until now been demoralized.
Wright is not merely a supporter or a friend from Obama’s past. Even in his speech yesterday Obama affirmed how close they are.
This should have been a no-brainer. Someone like Wright is toxic to political aspirations. All the good things Rev. Wright has done go out the window when he says “God damn America” or says the US intentionally created the AIDS virus.
Over at FOX News they are partying like it’s 1999. Obama surrendered the moral and patriotic high ground. They haven’t had this much fun since Monica Lewinsky. All they have to do is run the clips over and over.
Obama should have cut ties years ago. He could have easily done it when he was elected to the Senate by moving to Washington and attending a church there.
A paranoid would say the “stealth Muslim” rumors were a trap. It caused Obama to emphasize his religion (he already was, but not as much) and made it impossible for him to run away from Wright when the scandal broke. He tried to sweep it under the rug with half-truths and it bit him in the ass.
I’m just glad this story broke now instead of in September or October. At least this way if Obama doesn’t survive the scandal the Democratic party won’t go down with him.
Listen to one thing that Gingrich said that is key and overlooked by many: “how can Obama claim to be able to sit down at a table with America’s enemies” and defend the United States when he can’t even sit down with his own preacher and clear up the hatred in him?
This man if nothing else is as dangerous as they come! Willing to throw his own grandmother under the bus for political gain, when will he throw America under the bus for the same gains?
Oh yeah he did that yesterday by using race as an excuse for his kinship to Wright! We already know his kinship to Rezko, well part anyway! So what will be his excuse for his kinship to the home grown terrorist Ayers?
Mel, that caught my ears as well….it’s a perfect GOP ad in the fall….It’s so clear that Obama prefers to weasel around rather than face difficulties head on.
This whole thing reminds me of his penchant for “present” votes or voting one way and saying he pushed the wrong button by mistake!
GLORIA,
hE HAD MANY MANY “PRESENT” votes. The button is a clear strong yellow.
When the SunTimes asked for his voting records
in Illinois Senate, Obama told them that he never thought to keep them as he never felt it would be important. And he added that it would be too costly to retrieve these and take too long to obtain.
It’s raining where I live. The most rain we have had in 15 years. There aren’t any thunderstorms. Just a steady rain all day and night.
But after listening to this video I fully expect to be struck by lightening today. Because I agree with every word Newt Gingrich said. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
When hard core right wingers start making more sense that latte left wingers you know the Democratic party has lost it’s soul.
We cannot give up this fight. We need to wage a new battle every day and be relentless. Nothing less will achieve our goal. Please help save the Democratic party from these pretenders that use the most inappropriate title for themselves: Progressives. Because they offer no progress at all. And if we don’t stop them our party will become irrelevant.
But after listening to this video I fully expect to be struck by lightening today. Because I agree with every word Newt Gingrich said. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
I know the feeling. I feel dirty and icky just thinking about it.
But I blame Obama for giftwrapping himself for the GOP. To mix metaphors, this is a big, fat slow softball right in the GOP’s wheelhouse.
They haven’t even turned on the slime machine yet. They’re saving that for the nominee.
I quit being a Yellowdog Liberal Democrat when I realized the “yellow” was from the likes of Dean, Kennedy, and Pelosi relieving themselves on me and positions I hold important.
I am now what you might call a Bluedog Democrat (FDR, HST, LBJ)… and Obama is REALLY giving me the blues. If Obama is the nominee, the Democratic Party is toast. He will lose in a landslide, no matter how well he reads a Teleprompter (notice that the GOP has already zeroed in on his lack of articulation away from it).
The New England/Northern Cali contingent will blame Hillary and the DLC for the loss, banning them both to hinterlands (while recruiting someone to run against her in NY). They will purge the messengers of their defeat.
If Hillary pulls out the nomination, expect the same amount of support from the Obama camp as Humphrey got from Gene McCarthy’s people. If she were to lose, same repercussions as above.
The Economy is going to decide this election. If he is the nominee, Obama won’t be able to get his economic message across (if he has one) because the electorate will be having visions of Jeremiah Wright as either Commerce Secretary or Secretary of Defense.
Only Hillary can credibly be seen as able to fix the Economy. Only Hillary can snatch victory from the pending jaws of Obama Defeat.
Send Hillary money TODAY!
“He will lose in a landslide, no matter how well he reads a Teleprompter (notice that the GOP has already zeroed in on his lack of articulation away from it).”
Months ago, I commented on many blogs that one of the main reasons I didn’t feel Obama was as qualified as Hillary was because of the way he stuttered, stammered and didn’t seem to have a fluid command of the issues without a pre-written speech. I think this is key and the Democrats allowed themselves to be fooled by a very slick presentation. He’s no more ready than Bush.
Fleaflicker,
The Democratic party always makes the important become unimportant.
The screw ups here with delegates re: Fla and Mi is disastrous.
Obama is a total disaster for the party whether he is elected or not.
We haven’t seen the Pandora’s Box that is about to be opened by this race baiter who has taken public discontent and naivete to adoring clones who have bought him whole.
America is not a far left country. Democrats in control of the party..Teddy,Kennedy,Mme DeFarge Pelosi,Dodd,Daschle, etc.are the power brokers here.
Democrats have become so desperate to win at any and all costs that we see this sideshow of racial division and disinfranchisement through stubborn design and intent to be the anti Hillary.
The Party is souless.
I have never voted for GWB. I did not agree with 99.99% of what comes out of his mouth. However, on two issues, GWB and I are in total agreement, Immigration and when GWB advised FORD and GM to make “a better car” people want to buy when commenting on the companies huge quarterly losses.
Having said that, Newt is 100% correct in his analysis of the Obama Speech. Newt speaks in plain simple language that every america will understand and get it.
Obama needs to resign from the race before or the Democratic party will be toast come November.
Obama will never resign as he has the Elders of the party locked up. Superdelegates are his as they will never allow revoting in Fla or Mi, and will split the votes, thereby allowing Obama to keep his advantage, and deny Hillary the oppotunity to beat him.
That the party would allow this to happen reveals their desperation.
Win by default as GOP is so terrible my Aunt Mae could get elected. Run a smoothie with no experience who makes great speech and has good personna. I see a praying mantis.
Forget his corrupt ties and kickbacks from findraiser.sponsor, slumlord Rezko who trashed buildings in hisr district with loan subsidies meant for rehab. Obama looked the other way.
Forget his votes in Illinois senate and his association and approval of Farrakhan lover, the hate monger Reverend Wright.
His lying and dissembling are touted as the greatest speech since, “I have a dream”. It’s sickening when he is compared to a truly great man like M. L. King. Using his teleprompter he had remembered to trash his white grandmother who raised him and made her a bigot so that it advanced his “checkers” speech.
Pandora’s Box is opened. It will be uglier and uglier and any criticism of Obama has been and will be labelled “racist”. Wright as been on his “advisory” team. Can you see this kind of presidency?
What a deal! So long Democraic Party.
Could it be that had Obama and his campaign denounced Rev. Wright and his speeches early on, they would not have been able to effectively toss racist accusations at other candidates? Without that tool at their disposal, would they have managed to push Edwards out of the way and dislodge the AA community support away from Clinton?
And now, deflect by turning anti-American speeches into a matter of race that the majority of Americans should also share in blame, regardless of their background.
No, the GOP is going to use this more effectively than anything they might have had on hand against Clinton or any other Democrat.
The one major thing hitting the Democratic Party right now is it is feeding into the frenzy of the Republican machine!
If Obama is the Dem nominee, he will be sunk faster than the Titanic!
What if Clinton wins the nominee now, Republicans will have a field day claiming second place against their decisive victor McCain!
This bleeding cannot go on any longer, it needs to end now, but greed by Obama won’t let that to happen!
His own words are destroying him, his actions prove he is not worthy and yet he is still destroying the candidate who is best suited to beat the Republicans in November, yet allowing time for attacking by them to slide by, thus making it harder to defend in the GE as that window is short and things do not easily slide inot the woodwork then, “Swiftboat” proved that!
Fleaflicker;
In spite of any disagreement or hypocrisy one my have with being turned into a Newt, you’ll get better.
He is not an idiot just looking at it with out having drunk the same kool-aid.
Keep the powder dry.
>>> …turned into a Newt, you’ll get better.
First Monty Python reference of the Week.
Bravo!
Gingrich was very harmful to Clinton.
Gingrich’s bait and switch diplomacy doesn’t interest me, he’s shown this pattern before, kind of like mole for a day, the equivalent of dem for a day, maybe.
“The latte elite pundits” … “a white-guilt-based theory” … Then you show a video clip of Newt Gingrich from Fox News. Wow, it’s like I’m getting my news from Rush Limbaugh!
For sane people everywhere, how is it any different from getting the news from Olbermann?
It’s not.
I don’t listen to either.
I never thought I would see the day where Fox News was the main place to get the news that will reports and foretells the present and the future! But, yes, Newt gives us the preview of what will happen should Obama win the nomination. Can you spell “President McCain?”
Obama can give a good speech.. there’s no question about that. But look at the context: he had to try to dispel doubts about his judgment and politics based on his own actions. He USED race to help himself politically. He has no interest in the subject except as a means to get ahead.
When Clinton was leading, his campaign inflamed racial tension with charges of racism; now, he tries to be the great leader on race.
Opportunism wed to some political talent wed to huge ambition, with hardly a dash of national experience does not a good President make.
He is toast now. Obama just lost the GE. No speech could undo the irreperable damage that he has done.
Maybe the Wright controversy is one of the reasons why he and his surrogates have been pressuring Hillary to bow out for the democratic primary race. And that is one of the attributes that I admire in Hillary. She does not easily succumb to pressure. Very presidential.
I too am appalled that I have to go to FOX for “fair and balanced” news. As was stated there last night, the reason Obama can not tell the truth of his 20 year association is that it is not pretty. That church allowed him as an outsider to get into Chicago politics in the first place. Secondly, should we be fortunate enough to dump him as the nominee he would never be able to win again as a Senator there if he denounces this church. This is the politics of change and not Washington as usual. Only those drinking the kool aid are so naïve
I have to say that I agree with Gringrich (what an irony..)
But what he said was exactly right and more than legitimate issues that anyone willing to think should clearly see. Actually every point he made was as sharp as laser. Amazing the DNC is being so stupid… Dean, Pelosi et al. should
ask this guy to step aside before it is too late. ..
How can we organize an “e-mail bombardment” day to the DNC focusing specifically on the disgrace Obama has become b/c of Wright?
Any ideas welcome; I’m willing to do some work on this but I am not sure where to start. It has to be coordinated and massive for it to chip their collective
stupidity…
I think the only way is publicity and getting Larry or Susan on the air to voice what is being stated here.
This does remind me of the ‘72 election when Democrats convinced itself that McGovern could easily beat Nixon. Then the real contest started and it was a Nixon landslide in a year when he was very unpopular.
I think we should email the DNC and Nancy EVERY day urging Obama to resign for the good of the party. Just tell them we are staying home in NOV and changing party because the Dems no longer speak for us.
The Republican claim to prefer Hillary is a sham. She cannot be Swift-Boated, and is a bobcat who will defenestrate McCain.
“I think we should email the DNC and Nancy EVERY day urging Obama to resign for the good of the party. Just tell them we are staying home in NOV and changing party because the Dems no longer speak for us.”
I support Obama. Why should your candidate be more important than mine? I think Clinton is far more divisive than anyone.
The difference between me and you people who hate Obama is I WILL VOTE FOR CLINTON if she wins the nomination.
I would never be so STUPID and SELFISH to throw the election to McCain and let Republicans appoint even more rightwing idiots to the SCOTUS because my candidate of choice didn’t make it. That is the dumbest strategy I have ever seen.
I’ve been reading Larry Johnson’s site since before the Plame affair. I used to like it. You tell em Larry! Not anymore. Now it should be called IhateBarakObama.com.
I am not brainwashed, I am not suicidal, I’m not stupid, I’m not gullible. I just like Obama more than Clinton. IMO he would be a far better candidate. That’s my opinion. I shouldn’t get ripped to shreds by DEMOCRATS for my pick.
Bottom line, if Obama gets the nomination are you going to support him or McCain? The Supreme Court picks are paramount. That alone will do more to shape this country for the rest of our lives than anything else.
Artmann, you’re not supporting your arguments, so you offer nothing that would induce me to change my mind.
And that’s what you want, ultimately, to persuade people Obama is not what he appears to be, correct?
Because you want Obama elected, as he is your candidate…
Your critical judgement is severly damaged if you can tolerate this kind of association and hate trash. Judgement is what it’s all about. We are hearing a politician trying to save his butt, as Wright was on or still is….on Obama’s advisory staff.
Comparing a stupid single remark of Ferraro’s to 20 years of ultral left anarchy talk and white race baiting from Wright his spiritual leader is totally inexcusable.
This throwing in white gramdma was disgustingly opportunistic.
I am a liberal democrat, and have been all my life.
But this is not for me. The newspapers have lost their minds and their ethics which is not unusual.
They’ve left the station with this. No one can convince any Obamaton that he’s damaged and untrue.
He will lose the election.
Getting yourself pastored for 20 years by a radical hater shows bad judgment. Lying about it when asked by the media shows dishonesty. Now we know the real reason why you refused to wear a flag lapel pin and why your wife has never before been proud of America. If we take you at your word, you spent 20 years in the company of a man, and never once figured out that he was a virulent racist. A president of the United states cannot afford to be that obtuse. Request for presidency denied.

I wasn’t talking to rightwing flag lapel wearing hypocrites, Mr. poetry man. I was talking to Clinton supporters.
My own private Nazi is a guy I used to go to high school with. He’s a right wing fundie who is privy to all sorts of neoBircher propaganda that he tweaks me with.
I got my first Obama/Wright mp3 file today, my Nazi extracted it from right-wing talk radio on KIRO in Latteland.

(It takes a couple minutes to load and is a minute or so from the introduction)
This thing has metastasized.
Spread it around. That’s how it’s most effective.
Of course it is, like they need more ammo… for either of them?
Now all the republicans have to do is stir the pot, let Obama and Hillary continue slugging it out - then they blitz attack any survivor(s). This is Rove’s wet dream…
I hope it’s not going to get ugly in an uprecedented way but how could it not? And that’s before you even consider all the other things going on.
I know, kevin, but you have to do what you have to do, and if gets ugly, so be it.
May the smartest man win…
