Obama Goes Nuclear: Can’t Take the Heat

So much for “HOPE” and “CHANGE.” ["The Obama campaign is now fueled by insults and slander. They have taken the low road." - Phil Singer, conference call.] Obama and his campaign saw this today in the New York Times, and went crazy:

Clinton Backer Points to Electoral College Votes as New Measure — Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, who backs Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, proposed another metric Sunday by which superdelegates might judge whether to support Mrs. Clinton or Senator Barack Obama.

Now go look at Mark Halperin’s Time magazine blog, The Page:

Obama Camp: “Desperate” Clinton “Will Not Be Able to Win. . .By Any Conventional Measure [unflattering photo of Clinton]

Campaign’s daily talking points say Americans re “not interested in politics that tears people down.”

Obama Campaign Attacks Clinton’s Ties to Lobbyists, Defends McPeak

Campaign topper Plouffe says Clinton has been “wallowing” in support from lobbyists during campaign, says she’s gotten $900,000 in contributions.

Also says Obama probably wouldn’t have used same words as supporter Gen. McPeak, but thinks general had a “fair reading” of B. Clinton’s quote. Says questioning people’s patriotism has “no place.”

You can listen to the audio via The Page.

Clinton camp response:

Clinton spokesman Phil Singer responds: “The Obama campaign likes to talk about being free from the influence of special interest money. But that’s just words. That fact is Sen. Obama has accepted millions from federal lobbying firms, big oil, defense contracts and the securities industry, among other special interests.”

Clinton campaign holds media call on “state of the race” at 12 pm ET. Permalink

I have a couple balls in the air this morning, but wanted you all to see this quickly.

OBAMA IS NERVOUS. He can’t take it that Clinton won’t lie down for him.

He is used to the BRUTE FORCE of Chicago politics mollifying his opponents.

But NOT THIS LADY. And NOT HER SUPPORTERS.

Fuck Obama. He’s a sinking ship. I want to hear the grand orator make a speech on how we can get Rev. Racist Wright thrown the fuck out of this country for all but being gleeful about suicide bombers (yes–I heard the entire segment of the sermon the MSM won’t play, but Howard Stern did this morning on satellite radio and it’s God-awful) and how he possibly thinks we’d elect him to be our Commander in Chief at this time when we see the theory he’s been immersed in for 20 years.

Fuck you, Obama and Axelrod. Fuck you too, Plouffe. You’re ALL fucking crazy now if you think your guy’s gonna be our president. No way in fucking Hell.

EVERYONE, watch out for Kathleen please. And let me know — susanunpc at gmail dot com — if she shows up.

She is switching IP numbers and e-mail addresses to get around my placement of her on moderation.

She posted the name of that OTHER blog just to foul up what Fleaflicker posted below. I zapped it, but I need you to keep your eyes open for her attempts. Thank you.

Doubtless, she will use other handles besides Kathleen. Be on the watch for that too. Thanks.

Will do Susan. And isn’t Kathleen supposed to be from Ohio? Dayton in fact? That’s near my neighborhood and I don’t take too kindly to people messing with my stuff to begin with. But having someone from the hood doing it? That is another matter entirely.

Kathleen, prepare to be flicked!

Maybe she could deliver it in Tuzla!

Well, when you’re playing to the Wright crowd, you know, you have to speak their language.

What’s that you say?

Just bring cash next time?

Yesterday I ran into three Obama supporters in church who were now feeling very edgy and concerned. It is difficult for anyone to admit that they may have had it wrong, but I truly admire the courage and wisdom of those who are asking the hard questions of someone they now realize they did not know as well as they thought they did. None of these folks is ready to start campaiging for Hillary, but they all want to take a much closer look at her. I told them that they might be pleasantly surprised.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-24 12:09:54

Fascinating story, Tricia. Surely, it must be granted, you encountered more rational supporters of Obama who have the capacity to think and question. But it is a hopeful sign. And good for you for so graciously pointing them to Sen. Clinton.

Comment by PMS | 2008-03-24 13:35:58

Another church story: Yesterday morning I noticed the car of a former Obama supporter now has a Hillary sticker on it. We’ve already had our primary, and they’re switched since then, probably because of my trying to get them to explain just WHY they for Obama, and pointing out to them the similarity between Obama’s electability and an ice cube’s chances in Hell.

Comment by simon | 2008-03-24 15:38:00

I’ve been seeing that too, some Obama supporters trying to gracefully back away from Neo.

Truly ethical people will not associate with that filth.

And if what ebonyscrews said is correct, the idea Wright would in anyway tacitly condone a suicide attack is beyond repulsive.

All this from some overfed, cornfed comfortable stupid American preacher who has never ever seen the wreckage and grief a terrorist leaves behind.

Tricia - It’s amazing how the more people get to know Hillary, the more they realize she is nothing like the cartoon villain she is cast as in the corporate media. She is my Senator, and I’ve always been almost 100% happy with her voting record. Pretty good for a lefty like me!

One of the reasons I think Obama has been so successful in giving Senator Clinton devil horns and himself a halo is because the media is so happy to say nasty things about Hillary. She and Bill broke through the plutocratic membrane encasing the White House, after all - “they trashed the place, and it wasn’t their place,” according to the punditocracy. Meanwhile, Obama has signaled from the beginning that he is one of them, with his bullshit “unity” message.

How could anyone want to unite with this guy? He is slime personified. I hope to Jeebus that he is not the nominee, because I don’t think anything will really change under his administration, and I really don’t want to vote for him in November.

He’d still be better than McCain, though…I’ve got to keep that in mind for my own sanity. :-)

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-03-24 12:42:37

He’d still be better than McCain

As much as I would like to agree, I can’t.

Obama pushed a message of unity and has done the opposite at every chance he has been given.

McCain is not an “unknown”, and if I had to choose it would not be about my sanity but survival. For me, Obama appeals to none of these.

Hope does not put food on the table, whilst standing next to a ret. Gen.McPeek speak of oppression and agreeing with it. It is the lipsticked pig face of hypocrisy.

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-03-24 12:52:03

At least McCain doesn’t pretend to be something that he is not.

Comment by madamab | 2008-03-24 14:06:26

He pretends to be a “straight talker,” doesn’t he?

How many times has McCain flip-flopped on Bush’s tax cuts? (He’s for keeping the ones to the super-rich now. Awesome!)

Is it okay that he signed up for public financing and has now exceeded the limits? For it before he was against it?

What about the lobbyist scandal? He doesn’t work with lobbyists - except for the ones he does?

These are just a few examples of how McCain is an unprincipled liar who will do anything to win the nomination. But even worse, he is Bush 3.0.

McCain has promised us “more wars, my friends” and “Iraq for 100 years.” He wants to “bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.” He admits he doesn’t know much about the economy, and recently couldn’t tell Sunni from Shi’a until Joe Lieberman helped him out. (Ewwwwwwww….)

I truly dislike Obama, and I understand how people feel here, but there is no way in hell I would ever vote for McCain. Bush would still be president! Isn’t eight years of hell enough?

Comment by Mary | 2008-03-24 14:22:51

Comment by madamab | 2008-03-24 15:47:52

Fleaflicker, I greatly respect you and all the excellent work you do here. However, I must disagree with this assertion.

Don’t fall for the media spin on McCain. Check out his voting record. (This site, Progressive Punch, is non-partisan and merely analyzes and compares Congressional votes with progressive positions on the bills voted upon.)

McCain’s progressive rating is 13.69%. Hillary Clinton’s is 91%, and Barack Obama’s is 88%.

McCain is for torture, telecom immunity, the Unitary Executive and Iraq ForEvah. Oh, and let’s not forget what he said about how he’d nominate Supreme Court Justices that were just like Scalia and Alito. Ladies, say goodbye to your wombs - they don’t belong to you, they belong to the gummint!

If that’s moderate, I’d hate to see what right-wing would be!

Tricia, let’s hope the media pundits stop drinking the kool-aid and wake from their hypnosis as well. Seems to me, they are the ones now simultaneously living in denial for their shilling of an unvetted, inexperienced candidate and stubbornly holding on to the notion of a Barack Obama presidency (HAHAHAHA!!) to save face for their journalistic stupidity, silliness, and biased HRC reporting.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-24 12:56:21

Please,

Elaborate on how Hillary has been vetted? Her experience… and please no Bosnia references. It never ceases to amaze me how the Hillary supporters constantly bash Obama and his supporters with charges they can’t respond to any better.

Meanwhile the party is poised to tear itself apart and hand the republicans yet another election… just great.

Comment by ebonyscrews | 2008-03-24 13:03:02

And please, no Bosnia reference? Yeah right, don’t you wish your man had something of substance like Hillary’s bosnia trip. What did Obama do? Go to Kenya 2 weeks ago with his paparazzi in tow to document his publicity stunt visit? LMAO!!!

Don’t be such an Obamabot, K. I’m done explaining anything to Obamabots–go with your guy and his hate-spewing, America-shitting mentor. Good day.

“No Bosnia reference please”–LMAO!!

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-24 13:12:50

Funny how you completely avoid my direct question and challenge to the statement you made - choosing instead to attempt and attack me personally.

If your candidate is so strong - then respond w/ her statements. As for the Bosnia reference, laugh all you want - your candidate was the one on record embellishing the landing and subsequent events - no once, but twice (second time w/ more embellishments after being contradicted by others on the trip).

It’s really funny - you guys throw around phrases like “Obamabot” and talk about the mindless support for a candidate supposedly w/ out thought or reason - yet do exactly that.

Thanks for playing.

We’ve heard your talking points ad nauseum for months. If you had bothered to investigate those talking points you’ve been mindlessly spouting all this time, you wouldn’t be a ‘bot. Go waste someone else’s time. We’re sick of trolls.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-24 14:10:24

You’ll find no game playing here.

Now run off to the Obama sites where they’re delusional.

Obama is UNELECTABLE in November.

The Democratic loss will be his own fault in the general.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-24 19:21:40

What is it with you people - and I mean a blanket “rabid candidate supporters” regardless of who you like? Anyone who says anything other than your accepted “party line” or who questions you to support your views is attacked and dismissed… generally in the same childish manner you used to deride the GOP and it’s supporters for.

I asked a couple of pointed questions, seeking your opinions and/or supporting evidence for your views, so I could continue doing my evaluation.

And what do I get in response? Nonsense… utter and complete.

Okay… so “my” candidate is a divider? Right, so explain to me how yours isn’t or better still has worked to discredit that view of her?

ROFLMAO…

like I said many posts ago - the Democratic party is tearing itself apart and handing the election to McCain… seriously, at this point I almost want to vote for an independent or sit it out - which is exactly what the republicans want.

Each of the dems gives me pause - one (actually both) due to lack of substantive experience - but I can go w/ that. One due to some ridiculous and divisive comments and tactics employed by surrogates (but you don’t/cant hear that now can ya?)

too funny… still. Though I’m about to start laughing hysterically through the tears.

Funny, the old Right Wing line on Hillary was that she was a man-eater who was practically co-President during the Clinton years, constantly involved in everything on a policy level (as I heard more than once, “Who elected her co-president, anyway?”).

That’s an “inconvenient” line of attack now, so they’re trying to make her Laura Bush instead.

The MCM used to complain about Hillary’s First Lady trips because they seemed to be more than just sight-seeing junkets (”Who elected her co-President, anyway?”). Her trips constantly involved high-level briefings before, during, and after. With the Clintons, one has to realize that they have been a political team working for progressive goals since 1972 +/-.

Her Senate career has shown an ability to work in the trenches, not simply grab other’s work and stick your name to it. She even has shown the ability to A) Hold committee meetings, B) Master the voting panel at her Senate desk… both skills that seem to evade Sen. Obama.

kevin, I was reading today Axelrod has been supervising Obama’s run fro Presidency since 2004.

He had Obama followed with a documentary crew, or something of the sort?

I found this out while I was researching the Obama/Spitzer/Axelrod/Emperor’s Club connection.

Funny, how they planned for Obama to run, and in part nurtured his candidacy be insisting he do nothing to alienate anyone (except for the “bribe taking,” precious).

Your arguments are disingenuous trash, more oblique tribbles today, ho hum, yawn, I guess this is what passes for smart in the axelrod camp. Which should explain a lot.

I wonder what it is about the Obamabots they need so much personal validation from Obama, and Obama’s campaign? “I’m with the band, Obama was my professor,” that kind of shit.

And they can’t even troll, a lack of intellectual acuity, which Obama displays as well.

How about 60 million dollars worth of “VETTING” of OUR freakin money for starters.

Lets take your “constantly bash Obama”

Over the past month we have had Golsbee and Nafta, John Brennan and telco immunity, S Powers who views on foriegn policy are also 180 to BO call a sitting US senator a Monster, Obama campaign say the Senator is untrust worthy, A Ret General accuse a former President of the UNited States of being a communist, who’s views on are Iraq are spot on with McCains. Add to this, I thought Obama’s message was against oppresion. Many peoples’ lives were ruined in those years…Isn’t Obama’s message about the future? He thinks it is “Cool” to be on the same stage with some who says this? Obama has stated on Larry King that he would have in his cabinet the same freaking neo-cons of George the Ist…and that is showing good Judgement? That is the future? Where the *UCK was Obama on Sep 12, 2001? Was he at Ground Zero doing anything he could to help? Did he make any public statements regarding Rev Wright’s Comments at that time?

This is not Bashing it is stating the OBVIOUS!

I will leave the bashing for the re-thugs, so when they start raising issues of how Obama assisted in giving safe passage to an Iraqi futigive who embezzeled 600 million dollars of OUR tax dollars with assistance of Blackwater and when they start raising the 17 year friendship with Rezko and the 20 year association with Rev Wright, the Nation of Islam, Hamas and the kickbacks and RICO violations and influence peddling that both Obama and his wife are involved in will you say that is bashing? Or just ignoring the people in the 313 without heat or running water in 11 tenaments in his district, that Obama did not give a shit about? That is bashing? UG

If you wish to give examples as to how “Hillary and her supporters” have “bashed” BO, I would be happy respond, but as you seem comfortable with generalities, I dought you will.

As far as the Democratic Party goes go ask Harry, Nancy,Teddy, Claire, John Dean, John Kerry, Bill Richardson and Dodd why they sold out to the highest bidder and would disinfranshise 2 million voters. This Democratic party is already torn apart…good luck with that!

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-24 21:43:04

Kevin: I don’t know where you have been blogging or what you have been reading, but most Hillary supporters can easily list her many and varied accomplishments, starting with the Children’s Defense Fund in her 20’s. She has worked tirelessly for children, women, the disabled, and the poor, human rights, economic incentives in rural communities (bringing micro loans to Arkansas 30 years ago with recent Nobel Prize winner Yunus), prison and education reform, veteran’s, National Guard and 9/11 First Responders’ health care and employment benefits, etc. etc. She has also served on the Armed Services Committee for 6 years. Nobel winner John Hume, Gerry Adams, George Mitchell and Irish Prime Minister Ahern all praise her decade of work promoting peace in Northern Ireland (they all discredited the Obama camp’s criticism of this), and the list goes on. As far as vetting goes–I don’t think anyone can claim that Hillary has not had every aspect of her life thoroughly examined. Obama has been an unknown, and as the illusion becomes dispelled and people realize he is just a human being, not a savior, they will be disappointed. You may not support Clinton, but if you did your research, you could not deny her work ethic and long list of accomplishment. That is just a distortion to discredit her, because Obama has little experience to promote.

I was visiting some friends in Berkeley this past weekend who voted for Hillary, and they told me many of their neighbors who voted for Obama have buyer’s remorse. This Reverend Wright thing really shook them up. They said that their street was covered in Obama signs two weeks ago. We walked up and down the block, and there were no signs left. Berkeley is very progressive, so this is a very interesting sign that the SD’s better understand. Buyer’s Remorse is happening in the most progressive places in America.

Comment by Gregoryp | 2008-03-24 15:08:43

Which is exactly where the buyers remorse should be the most prevalent. Obama has not run a campaign consistent with progressive ideologies. Almost at every turn he has pandered to some form of conservative ideology. He has free traders for advisers. He advocated NRA talking points in Idaho. He has flip flopped on a myriad of issues and lies constantly. What I don’t get is why other liberals didn’t see this right off? I didn’t realize that liberals would be this easy to manipulate. All Obama did to enhance his liberal vote was decry Hillary and Bill as racist scum. No proof required. No rational thought required.

Comment by madamab | 2008-03-24 15:55:23

I agree, Gregoryp. Hillary’s voting record is actually more progressive than Obama’s - and she’s had a lot more time than he to build it up.

I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out why progressives would go for Obama, and all I can think of is the high school factor.

As Heidi Klum would say, “You’re either in, or you’re out.”

Comment by willie brennan | 2008-03-24 12:20:02

the campaign is turning on Wright’s outlandish anti-American statements and Obama’s tepid reaction to them. Obama seems flummoxed by the complexities of the racial polarization he promised to heal and the party is being divided in a way that could sink him. He’s even making things worse for himself as his silver tongue has gotten tied in knots.

Polls in Pennsylvania and nationally show that Obama’s otherwise-thoughtful speech last week failed to solve the political problem Wright created. Whites are shifting to Clinton or, in hypothetical general election matchups, to McCain. For those voters, Wright is a clear yes or no question. Trying to split the difference, however amiably, as Obama did by rejecting Wright’s most inflammatory comments while also sympathetically explaining them and equating them to white frustrations, created a muddle that has reinforced doubts about Obama’s convictions and values.

In the short run, Clinton obviously benefits in the nomination fight. But she shouldn’t get too comfortable. For Obama’s problems with Wright will become her problems if she makes the same mistake of not being forceful enough about her own values. The same kinds of voters - working-class whites in swing states - who are shunning Obama will abandon her if she takes the standard, Democratic, politically correct course and coddles Wright and his poison.

Comment by JoeySky | 2008-03-24 12:40:48

So far she chose to stay out of Wright issue which I think it’s the best thing to do. This might results in her losing some swing voters for which I haven’t seen any sign. On the other hands, if she chose to take an active stand against Obama on Wright issue, she WILL lose more votes due to the media and Obama campaign spin to pin this issue on her.

Taking the high road is the only way to go.

Comment by Fleaflicker | 2008-03-24 15:18:52

My view of it is that she is taking no position at all on Wright at this minute. And she shouldn’t. Wright is Obama’s problem, not hers. If she gets backed into a corner where she is forced to take a stand I would trust that she would nail his ass for being anti-American. It might not please the left wingers but screw them, they are supporting Obama anyway.

Comment by Mary | 2008-03-24 14:30:30

Obama’s losing the white male vote, the now disillusioned youth vote, and even some of the AA vote.

Rasmussen’s Wright poll showed that even 58% of the AA vote found him racially divisive and deeply offensive.

And those Independents and Reagan Democrats he claimed he could bring back to the party? GONE. Straight to McCain.

He’s unelectable in November. And his campaign is getting nastier and nastier, because they’re FRIGHTENED by it all.

Comment by Kevin | 2008-03-24 19:30:58

I’m freakin’ sorry sport - but I’ve had it up to here w/ the “Wrights’ anti american comments” meme - where the fark have you people been during all the other comments from Hagee, Robertson, Falwell, Rush, etc.? What about non-religious folks? Are you going to tell me you’ve heard no unseemly or equally offensive comments coming from a clergy member that supports Hillary?

I refuse to believe, but am being drawn back to the realization that you just don’t get it. The difference in personal experience, the inability or unwillingness (g’head, pick one) to even listen to perspectives/ideas that aren’t similar to your own. My Gawd - the whole “chickens coming home to roost” thing was cribbed (stolen) from early Malcom X… and you don’t think it’s plausible now as it was then?

You’d rather go ahead and participate in the willful immolation of the party… guaranteeing more of the same (McCain) for the next 4+ years????? Participate by deciding to be a petulant child and say “if my candidate doesn’t get the nomination, I’ll vote for the Repub or not vote”????

Sad… and pathetic. Almost pathetic as the reaction(s) to Obama’s speech. Rather than even consider what the man said - and opt to think about, not even actively engage in at this time - one of the singular most important conversations this nation needs to have… one about the realities of race relations, history, they interelate and where we can go from here (if we choose to).

No… it’s more important to attack and tear down.

Pretty freakin’ sad.

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-24 21:58:34

Kevin, you are a riot. Ranting about others who can’t analyze information, and you keep repeating the same tired brainwashed Obama line.

First, the difference between Falwell, Rush et. al. is that they did not mentor a presidential candidate for 20 years. See? He was one of Obama’s closest advisers, not some preacher or talk show host spouting garbage. That’s the frightening part–if Obama was so influenced by this man, as he admits, then how could he not be affected by his ideology?

If we found out Edwards or Hillary or Biden spent 20 years in close relationship with a white supremacist, that too would be cause for grave concern. You can argue and sputter all you want, but the damage is done. Everyone knows it in their gut, and the image of Wright is not going away. The only question now is if the party leadership has the guts to step in, because there is no way that Obama has a chance against McCain now–polls or no polls. It’s sad, but undeniable.

Kevin: p.s. The idea that his speech was “courageous” is also bunk. Like everything else, it’s just another speech. His opposition to the war was just a speech, and he did nothing to oppose it after that. He only stepped forward to speak about race, and it IS an issue that this country desperately needs to deal with, because his back was against the wall after trying to hide Wright for a year. He is a political opportunist, not a visionary leader and uniter as he says. The fall is hard, I’m sure, but you can only deny the facts for so long. His record is clear, and the spotlight on his record and past is only beginning to shine. I shudder to think of what the Republicans will do if he is the nominee–it will be ugly.

Thinking about the comments of Gen. McPeak, believe it would beneficial to point out that Senator Obama does NOT believe in Democratic party.

I have come to the conclusion that had BO arrived in Chicago with a Republican patron, he would be a Rebuplican. The only two thing’s Obama is colorblind about, money and what “political opportunity is in it for me”.
It matters not what party he is in and I believe he could care less. Add in his social views and behavior towards women as objects, his neo-political influences and inclination to denigrate as a way of advancing his position is a sign of a novice. BO’s complete lack of experience in so many areas including military affairs can not be glossed over.
We have born witness to the “gut instincts” of GW the II and look for a way out of the abyss.
Experience informs judgement. Obama is lacking on both and demonstrates this several times a week.

If perception devoid of the facts is the coin of the realm, Obama is a rich man.

Experience informs judgement. Obama has niether.

Another thing that has been really bugging me is all this talk about the Clinton’s sense of entitlement. As if Obama does not exhibit overwhelming entitlement?! He has only been in the Senate 2 years and he thinks he deserves to be president?!! The arrogance and smugness of this man has always bothered me. In the debates, his attitude and lack of knowledge was, for me, weaker than any of the other candidates. Hillary Clinton HAS earned this after almost 40 years of public service work. I am so tired of the repeatedly disproven meme about her “lack of experience.” If you read anything about this woman you cannot deny her unbelievable work ethic. I saw her speak in a nearby town several years ago: she gave a talk at a luncheon, rode on a bus that broke down for 3 hours during a 100+ degree heat wave. Showed up late for our gathering with many people waiting, and gave a dynamic speech in front of an old historic building being renovated, and then left at around 5p.m. to go to a public dinner for another event. I thought to myself: “Who works like this?! She could be making millions in some blue chip firm or on a corporate board somewhere.” Actions, not words. That’s always the true barometer of character.

Obama apologist Halperin could not have chosen a much better photo of HRC. It shows an affable-looking woman who has had her share of life’s rough and tumble, yet a person who remains cheerful and raring to put in some more hard work and sacrifice to help others in need. And this is what kind of person HRC really is - not some media-spun character who coasted through most of his adult life riding on the coattails of individuals of equally questionable integrity.

You’ve got to be kidding me?! First of all, hmmmm… considering the source of the quote (goes ballistic) ya might want to actually take the characterization with a grain of salt (that is if you’re actually interested in an unbiased take on the issue(s)).

“Brute force” politics? Give it a rest, what the heck do you think Hillary and her campaign have been trying to do? LOL - first it was the super delegates, then it was the popular vote, then it was the size of the states won; and now we’re back to a variation on a theme.

Comment by anna shane | 2008-03-24 13:39:53

Hillary goes after Obama on their real differences, that may matter to voters or may not matter. She respects him as a person but she presents him as less prepared for the job. He goes after her on her ‘character,’ who she is as a person, and he has support from those who already don’t like her and/or who already are misogynist. He stokes Hillary hate, and it’s divisive. I’d like to like him, I hope he knows better and is just using this as a way to win, what he calls Chicago slap down, but he’s running on this hate and he’s inspiring bullies. I don’t like it and worse, I think it’s gratuitous. He has an okay message but he’s not good at articulating it, or it’s not good enough to win on, so he takes the low road. There are more women, and we’ve all pretty much experienced someone using prejudice against us to make their case as ‘better.’ It’s old, and it’s ugly. It’s certainly true that African Americans have experienced being the foil to some immigrant groups who first got ahead by being ‘not black,’ and so there is some ironic justice that he’s doing this with women, who have more ‘negatives’ regarding leadership polls than most other protected minorities. Or maybe all? But because it’s been done to you, over and over, isn’t a reason to do the same thing, even were this necessary for him to win.

Comment by hillarysmygirl | 2008-03-24 14:56:25

he’s inspiring bullies…

That’s exactly how I felt until last week: bullied by the press and by the Obama supporters. Suddenly, I don’t feel like I have to keep it a secret that I voted for Hillary. I’m proud to support her and happy that I haven’t seen the vitriolic hatred from us that I’ve seen from them. Even in my own family, my husband and I were called “stupid” for voting for her. At the end of the day, I can only try to conduct myself with dignity and class and not worry about what they do to themselves. Because all this hatred is only going to eat away at them. At the end of the day, no matter who wins or loses, I can live with myself and my behavior. Can they?

Same as what I see on the Obama supporting blogs. And let me tell you folks - neither approach is helping anyone other than the republicans… something you all and both Dem candidates should be ashamed of if we lose in ‘08.

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-24 22:19:59

Kevin: last futile attempt to talk to you as a human being. I gave you a whole list of Hillary’s documented experience above in a calm, clear way. Didn’t you read it or are you only hear to act like a child? That’s why Clinton supporters are so negative (now) about Obamotons–they ARE like robots, repeating the same programmed lines over and over again. You can’t talk issues, because you don’t really know the issues or are defensive because Obama doesn’t really have any substance. His policy positions are mostly pirated from Hillary and her advisers anyway. That’s why he always stumbles during the debates–because he doesn’t have a command of the policies. He is best giving a speech to a large audience who doesn’t ask for depth. That can only last so long, as we are seeing now. You need to grow up. And that’s the last time I am going to address you or read anything you have to say–it’s a waste of time. I suggest everyone on the site completely ignore him now and maybe he’ll get bored and go away.

Take care and good luck with that. As others have said, millions more are getting ready to vote–for Hillary. Deal with it.

Comment by Mel | 2008-03-24 13:04:06

Here is something that seems to go un-noticed, but is constantly spoken of by Obama, and was spoken of in his so called MAJOR SPEECH ON RACISM but having checked out his speeches when googling it, a constant thing is in them! He promotes his books!

Even in his Major speech on RACISM, this statement is overlooked:

In my first book, Dreams From My Father, I described the experience of my first service at Trinity

Why not simply tell people to go out and buy your books Mr Opportunist?

This guy is a real piece of work!

This guy promotes his books continually, both outrightly and subliminally! This guy will stop at nothing to fulfill his pockets and his greed!

Comment by John D | 2008-03-24 13:07:36

There is also a subtle promotion of his second book - only it’s ‘to,’ instead of ‘of.’

“What we have already achieved gives us hope - the
audacity to hope - for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.”

Comment by Mel | 2008-03-24 13:14:31

I consider what McPuke said about Bill Clinton much worse than Bill’s failure to mention Obama in a speech about Hillary’s chances against McCIan. The Clintons do not have to praise Obama in every speech they give and they are not obligated to tout his candidacy every time they compare Hillary against McCain.

Obama has given lots of speeches comparing himself against McCain without mentioning that Hillary is more qualified than either one of them.

Comment by apishapa | 2008-03-24 13:13:54

Typo. I swear I meant McCain, not McClan.

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-24 22:26:53

The point I keep making about this is: if Obama is so hypersensitive to every perceived slight, how can anyone expect him to manage himself on an international stage with fierce and aggressive opponents. He’s so whiny–he has not strength for the position. Hillary has clearly proven she has the stamina and toughness to deal with anything. She is formidable, and I am here to declare without reservation that I AM A PASSIONATE AND UNAPOLOGETIC SUPPORTER OF HILLARY CLINTON!!

I had an idea a while ago, and saw it on another site: someone should make a video based on the old Kirk Douglas movie, “Spartacus,” with women of all ages and cultures, standing up and declaring, “I AM HILLARY CLINTON!” Hey, come to think of it–include men too!

And check out Novak’s column today- TWICE he refers to “annonymous sources” in Clinton’s campaign remarking that “The Clintons will do anything to win…ANYTHING…”

Yep, anything to win. Like campaign, buy tv ads suggesting you are the better-qualified candidate, McCarthyite stuff like that.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-03-24 15:21:56

Novak’s column …the 5th one? That guy is a traitor plain and simple.

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-24 22:33:06

John: This crap about “doing anything to win” is also ridiculous. She is only behind by 1% of the vote, and millions have voters have not yet spoken. Also, why shouldn’t she play to win?! Do we want someone who will quit? If she were a man, they would praise his determination. And as far as “attacking Obama,” she could have used the Wright controversy, or gone after any number of Obama’s weaknesses, and instead, she has repeatedly challenged him on his lack of experience (which is completely legitimate and necessary–because McCain will be all over it) and inconsistent record. That is what a campaign is all about. And she is not “stealing” the election with superdelegates–they were created to make a judgment based on electability. These arguments are all diversions, and the memo on her site addressing all these myths articulated it perfectly. We just have to stay focused on the goal, and help her any way we can. She doesn’t flinch, so neither should we.

Comment by MarkL | 2008-03-24 13:37:53

Here’s a question I posed over at talkleft:

What new campaign theme has Obama brought out: what new aspect of his record has been released that gives one yet another reason to vote for him?
Haven’t we heard all the arguments already? The only information coming out these days is negative.
Hillary’s record is long enough and rich enough that there is always something more to say. For example, how many people know that she took on the Reagan administration and WON in 1981? The budget for the legal services foundation of which she was chair was to be cut, and she stopped the cuts.
How about Ireland? The current Prime Minister says that Hillary made a huge difference.

Obama’s record is tapped out, and he’s obviously not going to be adding to it through Senate actions in the next few months.

Clinton is not some poor little old lady like Alice Palmer who can be kneecapped by

THE STEAMROLLER OF HOPE.
THE PRINCE OF ENTITLEMENT.
THE MAN WHO HOODWINKED AMERICA.

You want the nomination for POTUS, Barry? Then you are going to have to win it CLEAN, instead of using the usual Obama dirty tricks for elbowing out constituents and the competition alike. You, Obama, have no legitimate path to the nomination since you DISENFRANCHISED Florida and Michigan by BLOCKING REVOTES. Disenfranchisement that stinks just like Bush and Scalia stink. It’s all one big pile. Who’s the MONSTER here, Obama trolls?

You’ve tried to elbow out Clinton’s constituents by enabling your supporters to use thuggish behavior in your pathetic red state caucuses. Anything to disenfranchise Democrats who see through your BULL. In fact, THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING. Are the Democrats going to win by stealing elections, too?

Barack “Win at All Costs” Obama. His best friends are Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, and Emil Jones. What a truckload of manure you are heaping on the Democratic party.

Comment by Ann | 2008-03-24 15:33:58

Quite right. Sen. Obama can’t take the heat. Senator Clinton has used kid gloves on him by comparison but he attacks her indicating she was a hausfrau in the WH for eight years and discounts all her other accomplishments in the Senate. I guess she was good enough to mentor him when he was starting out though, huh?

She has had to combat the old Repug talking points, a negative and sexist media bias 9versus his glowing media coverage), his outspending her 2:1, 3:1 — in Wisconsin for instance, he outspent her by 5:1, he won’t let FL and MI be counted and still she is formidable against him and gaining.

For the first time, he is experiencing a little media scrutiny and doesn’t know how to handle it. Talk about whining. Why doesn’t she just get out of the sandbox and let him have it all to himself??? Soon he’ll start stamping his feet like a petulant child. Doe this person even seem remotely ready for the job of Commander-in-Chief? Senator Obama, welcome to the world of politics — against a formidable, extremely able and accomplished opponent. One who has well formulated policies and offers something of substance to the American people. Not one you can keep off the ballot like Aice Palmer or your weak, poorly funded opponent for the IL Senate seat.

Obama is the one who is now acting the spoiler because his camp knows he can no longer win in the GE. You see, lage segments of the population don’t like being told they don’t matter or are not cool or, worse, are racist, if they don’t vote for him.

Well, perhaps I am not cool, but neither am I a racist. I just want the best president we can get of the candidates available to us — and that is Hillary Rodham Clnton.

Obama’s version of unity and bi-partisanship consists of soliciting republicans and independents to vote for him in the primaries and caucuses. He never mentions the word democrate-isn’t he supposed to be one? Doesn’t he want my vote? Does he assume that the democratic base is automatically his? I’m not at all convinced that these cross-over voters will actually vote for him in the GE. This could cost us the WH.
BTW-my primary vote doesn’t count anyway because I live in Florida

Response:

“The West Sits On Its Hands”???

What else would you expect, friend?!?! Another “military intervention” from people - so emasculated by secularist socialism, moral relativism, and multi-culturalism in Europe; or so yellow-bellied, anti-war, and leftist, as the Democrats here at home - for whom no Dhimmitude is high enough, no surrender sufficiently servile for their “masochist” ways, for whom no defeat can be humiliatingly achieved fast enough??? Who are but scurrying to lose as fast as we can in Iraq and Afghanistan, in order to achieve two more “glorious” Vietnams, and come back home running to stick their “Code Pink” ostrich heads in the sand - if not their arses… as in San Francisco?!?! Again, what else would you expect?

As for Lebanon’s Muslim Arab neighbors and other Muslim nations around the world, if not openly supporting Hamas, equipping and funding them as in Syria’s case, they at least are “sympathetic” to Hamas (just as Jimmy carter and Obama, here in America?), not Lebanon’s 300 - regardless of their “spiel” to the contrary - and will joyfully sit on the sidelines to watch ( if not to cheer) the slaughter, and shout “Allah Akbar”!

No matter how we may wish to “sugar-coat” it, the reality is 90% of Muslims support Hamas and the Jihadists - if not openly, at least in the most recondite corners of their hearts. The same way 90% of blacks here in America voted for Obama. It’s something deeply rooted in their identities. It seems only the Europeans and us “white gelded bullocks” have been the only ones to “assimilate” other races and “cherish” other cultures and religions after 40 years of unrelenting socialist conditioning, political correctness, and multi-culturalism…so much so that we are marching like lemmings to our own destruction!

Sad as it is. In the world we have wrought with our cowardice and complacency. The valiant Lebanese 300 are on their own. Not even Israel, which has been so maligned in the past for intervening in Lebanon, and which is tired of so much fighting for its very survival for sixty years, will come to their rescue this time…
