Jamie Rubin Nails It (and Andrea Mitchell)

Update:

Bill Clinton, for one, is tired of these politically correct resignations. “If a politician doesn’t wanna get beat up, he shouldn’t run for office,” Clinton said. “If a football player doesn’t want to get tackled or want the risk of an a occasional clip he shouldn’t put the pads on.” He added, “All these guys that say bad things about any other campaign, they say, ‘Should they resign?’ My answer is no; they’re repeating party line. They oughta stay right where they are. Let’s just saddle up and have an argument. What’s the matter with that? That’s what America’s about, right?” MSNBC

Wow! He really does nail it. And I hope I can call Andrea Mitchell a self-important bitch without someone misconstruing the comment as somehow misogynist. Because she really is a bitch.

Of course not, the intellectual challenge of separating bitches from women deserving respect must weigh heavily on your shoulders. Carry on boogerflicker

And the intellectual challenge ( sort of ) of separating the men from meow weighs on many of us, but you don’t here us complaining, like 4th tier victims, do you?

OT:

You know, what is being run against Clinton now, with the polls, and the Bosnia attacks, is a typical republican effort to interfere with the selection process, ala “democrat for a day, pushing Obama as the easiest to beat.”

Prop Obama, at the expense of Clinton, again, but with another tact, a skewed WSJ poll, for instance, saying the Wright fall out hurt HER.

Load of crap, the WSJ polled a disproportionate number of AA’s, no matter how you spin it, it was skewed. I question the methodology, no matter how it’s mathematically justified, again, the bias of the pollsters.

Period.

False snapshot for propaganda purposes.

For whom, though?

And given both McCain and Obama have the same supporters (financial), sort of, it’s not surprising.

But again, you miss how Cheney and Bush were crippled, are still being crippled, and you’re running the exact same troll, and it’s being used against you.

See why the republicans can’t win a war?

Not too bright, they seem to be having problems analyzing.

heh.

Comment by Laura | 2008-03-26 23:07:47

Yep! Jamie really nailed it!!

What is it with the media these days? Sometimes I have to pinch myself to remind me that we still live in a democracy. What Obama’s followers would like though — at least if you follow any of the blogosphere — is for Hillary Clinton to just go away. Which begs the question: what are they afraid of?

Comment by Fran | 2008-03-26 23:48:00

Fantastic job by Rubin! Andrea obviously had an agenda, and he is strong, firm and calm, making his points no matter how she tried to twist it. I wish he had mentioned all the other stellar diplomats who backed up her Ireland foreign policy experience: Prime Minister John Ahern, Gerry Adams, and George Mitchell. Isn’t it amazing that he gets a pass on everything, and she and her surrogate literally have to fight to get a positive point across? So bizarre, but he was tough and clear like Hillary.

sorry friend, you know I dig you, but it is wrong to address Andrea Mitchell or any woman in these terms. Don’t have a double standard about sexism from Obama’s campaign or others, then engage in it.

Its beneath you, and diminishes your credit.
I would apologize to the readers for it, if it were me.

There is a woman on CNN at night that irritates the shit out of me about as much as Olbermann, or OReilly and frankly she’s an asshole. (see no need to resort to her gender for the issue, because she’s a real fucking asshole)

Comment by chris | 2008-03-27 06:49:46

why do we want anyone to lie? I’m sick of lies. I don’t need a liester…and I don’t see what Clinton did as a lie. I think Rubin makes a great point like she did too, 80 countries is a lot of territory to cover.

Maybe for the routine mundane types this seems way out there, but to anyone who has been to lots of places or experienced lots of significant events I don’t believe you’d find many of them that always get their accounts dead on after 12 years.

This is a non story. Clinton went to more places and did more things than Barack and Michelle Obama combined.

Jamie Rubin is awesome! He should definitely be in Hillary’s administration when she gets to the White House. I love watching interviews with him. He sure put Mitchell in her place. She needs to find another career because I think like many people in the media right now, they aren’t going to be around when this election is over. No one will want to watch them.

Everything that Jamie Rubin said is absolutely true. I hope he gets on a bunch of other shows and talks about this stuff because he says what everyone needs to hear.

Hillary Clinton Responds to John McCain on Iraq

“While there is much to praise in Senator McCain’s speech, he and I continue to have a fundamental disagreement on Iraq. Like President Bush, Senator McCain continues to oppose a swift and responsible withdrawal from Iraq. Like President Bush, Senator McCain discounts the warnings of our senior military leadership of the consequences of the Iraq war on the readiness of our armed forces, and on the need to focus on the forgotten front line in Afghanistan. Like President Bush, Senator McCain wants to keep us tied to another country’s civil war, and said “it would be fine with me” if U.S. troops were in Iraq for 50 or even 100 years. That in a nutshell is the Bush/McCain Iraq policy.”

Jamie Rubin is married to Christiane Amanpour (one of the few “real” journalists left) and he also teaches and the London School of Economics (where they still teach Keynesian demand-side economics) and not the Alan Greenspan-Chicago School Supply Side economics.

Comment by Tracy | 2008-03-26 17:42:04

Most people did not believe Amanpour is a real journalist since some stunts she pulled on CNN this past summer. She is a far cry from objective. I’m on here to hear facts and information, but I feel like this site is becoming exactly what it’s not supposed to be — SPIN.

Comment by Eurogirl70 | 2008-03-26 17:53:19

Tracy,

The only “spin” you have been hearing is from the Obama supporters.

What “stunts” are you referencing Tracy, when referring to Christiane Amanpour? You mean like Arianna Huffington? A woman who belongs to the John Rogers cult, was a Democrat before she was a Republican and now is a “progressive”. A woman who spread lies about Al Gore throughout the 2000 Election because her guy was Bill “let’s bundle some more campaign contributions” Bradley?

Or what about Campbell Brown? Married to Daniel Senor, legal counsel to the Carlyle group and then assistant to Viceroy Paul Bremmer?

Or what about Andrea Mitchell, married to Alan “I never met a sub-prime mortage I wouldn’t thrust upon an unsuspecting public” Greenspan? Did you see Andrea Mitchell’s interview of Terri Mcauliffe in which she began to hyperventilate about Mrs. Clinton’s chances in Ohio and Texas and Mr. Mcauliffe proceeded to tell her to just take a deep breath. Her response was to say “I’m (dramatic intake of breath) taking (dramatic intake of breath) a (dramatic intake of breath) deep (dramatic intake of breath) breath? Now that is real news journalism my friends.

The spin dear Tracey is pushing people to accept as the “designated” candidate a man whose laurals and achievements are a transparently thin as a piece of Saran Wrap. Push your “feigned moral outrage” somewhere else than here.

Comment by Tracy | 2008-03-26 18:11:00

I wasn’t pushing anyone in any direction. It’s amazing that you assume that because I argued with you and criticized this site, that I support a particular candidate. Apparently, people aren’t allowed to have opinions anymore.

And that is exactly why Amanpour got a bad rep. You can’t say you’re an objective journalist and then fly off the handle when people disagree. Amanpour is completely politically biased. She has spent decades reporting a distorted and highly negative image of Serbians. Do some research.

Comment by simon | 2008-03-26 18:18:26

You made two general statements, without backing either, without giving a reasoned argument. In addition, your assertions are generic.

Normally, that marks you as a troll.

If not, please back up your arguments with well reasoned examples.

Comment by Tracy | 2008-03-26 18:35:36

Sorry you think I’m a troll, Simon. You can google just as well as anybody and find out what I’m talking about.

Here’s one example:
http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=3&x_outlet=14&x_article=1370

Comment by simon | 2008-03-26 19:36:58

No, Tracy, it’s your assertion, you do the work.

“The tom Sawyer” troll.

Make an assertion, than accuse your opponent of laziness, asserting they are not informed, will not do the work.

It puts your opponent on the defensive.

The end goal of this simple minded troll is to cause the opponent to give up, in exhaustion, hence, Obama’s vacation, no doubt, to take a break. Mental exhaustion.

It’s really not difficult for smart people to surmount, this is the weak man’s troll.

BTW, you’re looking at “hardcore”republican tactics, such as they are, what McCain will most likely use against Clinton, should she be the nominee.

And surmounting this, because it’s unclear here just who is being trolled, the republicans, or democrats, (and don’t ask the republicans to sort it out, they still can’t figure out Iraq), Clinton will be able to take on any comers, no “let’s not tell the president (or candidate) about this” here.

Because she is the only candidate intellectually, and psychologically competent to handle the office.

It’s brutal out there, pub boi, isn’t it?

Comment by simon | 2008-03-26 19:38:11

Tom, and then, not than, sorry.

And again, a simple change of the IP address, and no one can troll who you are.

What a delusional troll you are…

Comment by simon | 2008-03-26 19:40:18

tell, not troll.

Or perhaps it was a Freudian slip.

Who knows?

Certainly not the simple minded troll, again, post modern french existentialism, for the would be American intellectual failure.

Comment by Jack | 2008-03-26 22:07:36

uh oh, someone’s trotting out the french existentialism bit again…

Comment by simon | 2008-03-27 10:18:22

Comment by simon | 2008-03-27 10:22:44

I mean, Jack, this is why Cheney, and the US, ostensibly, can’t win.

They don’t get it, they don’t understand the poem.

Right?

And here is where xerox meets it’s end, because it can’t perform, it can’t fight, it cannot critically think.

But Clinton, or Jamie Reuben, they’d get it.

Not you and your trolls, though.

And btw, you’re not supposed to get it. If you could figure it out, you wouldn’t be where you are.

Do you understand that little abstract?

No.

1. Campbell Brown

2. Andrea Mitchell

3. Mika Brzezinski (daughter of Zbigniew-Obama advisor and brother who works for McCain)

4. Andrea Koppel (daughter of Ted)

5. Arianna Huffington

6. Leslie Stahl (who never had a nice thing to say about Jimmy Carter, during his Presidency)

7. Keith Olbermann

8. Chris Matthews (whose brother ran as a Republican for the Lieutenant governship of Pennsylvania and lost)

9. Kate Obierne-whose husband headed up the office in the Pentagon for selecting who got contracts to rebuild Iraq and gave them out to cronies and recent Bible-college graduates to re-open the Baghdad stock exchange.

Now of these people have a damn ax to grind. Could it be that Christiane’s views don’t mesh with your own.

Say it ain’t so Tracy that we are wallowing in subjective journalism rather than objective journalism.

I happen to live inside the Beltway. It is a very incestuous town. Don’t point to Christiane and claim she is the “Mata Hari” of news journalists.

Comment by Tracy | 2008-03-26 18:40:58

It’s not that her views don’t mesh with mine. Eurogirl, do you read foreign newspapers or watch international news programs?

Comment by eurogirl70 | 2008-03-26 23:24:12

In fact I do and I know that the Herald Tribune, Economist, and Der Speigel have some serious issues with Obama.

Now, getting back to Christiane Amanpour being maligned in the foreign press, I am not privy to any stories on that. I do know that our media is rightly ridiculed in most Western European countries (outside of maybe Italy during the Berlisconi era) as being American-centered; leaving our citizens very ill informed on a wide variety of global issues. I happen to get most of TV-viewing news from BBC

Who is “most people?” I’ve been watching Amanpour for years and she is a first class journalist. She’s one of the very few who’ve had the courage to speak out against the corporate news network owners who tell their reporters what to say and how to frame it. If you’re really here for “facts and information,” try keeping an open mind and not using phrases like “most people.”

Comment by Scott | 2008-03-26 17:52:51

How is it that this mis-statement by Hillary is seen by pundits, including Andrea Mitchell in this interview - as something that “challenges her credibility”? Yet the press seemed eager to move on from the Wright story, even though the fact that Obama sat in that church for 20 years listening to a pastor that often spewed divisive, hateful words - a storyline that cuts to the very heart of Obama’s campaign of “hope” and “unity” and “judgement”? How can Andrea Mitchell sit there and actually believe that this Bosnia story is worse than the Wright story in terms of revealing a candidate’s true nature? I’m disgusted!

Comment by Gregoryp | 2008-03-26 19:05:41

How many times has Obama changed his story on Wright, Rezko, everything else? All these people have an axe to grind with Hillary because they know she actually has the audacity/gonads to do what she says she will. Obama won’t do a freaking thing as president and they know it. He’ll capitulate. He’ll hem, haw and stall and nothing will ever get done. Meanwhile, the infrastructure of our country will continue to crumble, the poor will continue to struggle, those without quality health care will still be without quality health care. An Obama presidency along with a democratic congress will bring us nothing except maybe higher taxes. The corruption will continue, the treasury will continue to be bankrupt, and our national debt will never be paid.

Comment by jtool | 2008-03-26 19:52:43

OB: “I never heard any of those comments that people are saying are offensive.”

OB: “Did I hear him say those offensive things? Of course I did.”

Sure I’m paraphrasing, but wasn’t that the gist of Obama’s statements & speech on Wright & race?

Yet Clinton’s got the credibility problem. Andrea Mitchell is obviously senile. What a sorry excuse for a journalist, her and the rest of the punditocracy.

All Right!!!

Comment by mimi | 2008-03-26 18:16:03

Let me get this straight: Her entire credibility is at stake? According to Mitchell.

Oh please. Talk about an exaggeration.

What about the ‘boneheaded’ Rezko mistake and the jury’s still out on that one. What about he didn’t know that Rezko was a slumlord comment. In his own district???

What about, I never heard Wright make those comments, to, did I disagree with comments I heard in church? What about Michelle misquoting Bill Clinton over the fairytale remark and still no apology, and instead Michelle wants to scratch Bill’s eyes out? (Hillary did apologize for Ferraro and Bill, but nothing coming out of the politics of hope camp.)

What about Obama’s credibility after throwing the white side of his ancestry under the bus????

These people are UNREAL!

Good for Jamie Rubin telling it like it is.

And still I ask these questions: Why is Barack Obama so angry considering his pretty privileged background?

And where has he ever been? Names of countries, please????

Andrea Mitchell drove be batshit when I watched Bill Clinton give great policy speaches in 92 on c-span only to listen to her later completly misrepresent it and accuse him of not realy believing he could accomplish his promises. Mrs. Greenspan hasn’t changed in her reguard for the Clinton’s.

Andrea Mitchell insults the intelligence of her viewers by repeatedly using Sen. Clinton’s misstatement to back up the argument prepared by the Obama attack hyenas (I wouldn’t use “dogs” because I am a canine lover and I know for one that hyenas kill and eat their own siblings - which is what the Obamabots are trying to do to the remaining Democratic primary candidate!) and ably supported by the media. One misstatement by Hillary compared to so many by Barack Obama and who gets blasted for being untrustworthy? Give me a break? Shame on you Andrea Mitchell. Truly there is a special place in hell for the likes of you, Maureen Dowd (who should share the blame for the disastrous Bush II presidency given her repeated attacks on Al Gore during his ill-fated 2000 run) ad nauseam!

Poor superannuated schoolgirl Dowd. Her estrogen replacement therapy is not doing her much good.

She needs to get herself a good man, as Mitchell has done.

Nothing like a good seeing to improve a woman’s disposition — if not the quality of her though processes (zero multiplicand problem).

Mitchell seemed more ill perpared than usual & expecting the usual Dem milk toast…NOT! The hacks really don’t know what to do if a Dem doesn’t lie down.

There are no 2nd tier approved talking points for the press and if a Dem blows up the first round of talking points, the hacks are left with nothing to say

I would have preferred that Hillary would not have embellished her trip to Tuzla, but having said that, I am STILL trying to understand WHY these idiots are still talking about it! Obama makes a speech and compares Geraldine Ferraro to that racist minister, but NOTHING is said about that. Now, we are getting the “Hillary lies” treatment all over the place. It is just too reminiscent of the way these SAME a-holes trashed Al Gore!

Jamie Rubin is really on top of it. Lately, I’ve been turning over to CNN because they seem to be a little more even-handed than MSNBC. I wonder if Christiane Amanpour has anything to do with that since she’s married to Jamie.

Andrea Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan. You know who he is and do not think for one minute that the MSM will not turn on Obama in a heart beat once he has the nomination. The Dems are playing right into the web being spun by the Rethugs. The MSM is controlled by Rethug supporters and their main purpose is to keep control of the White House and the Supreme Court. Dean, and Pelosi are fools for backing a candidate who is an empty suit.
Jamie Rubin was great and made Andrea look like the partisan hack she is. I can see why Amanpour was attracted to him. ;-)

I am well aware of who Andrea Mitchell is. I actually read some comment on the Huffington Post that accused Mitchell of being in the tank for Clinton. Yeah, right! *dripping in sarcasm*

As to what the MSM will do in the general, it’s anyone’s guess. Heaven knows how the morons that call themselves “journalists” really think! After all, these are the SAME nimrods that gave the chimp the “golden boy” treatment back in 2000, just like they have been giving Obama the “golden boy” treatment almost since the day he announced his candiday. These are also the SAME morons that proclaimed McBush’s political obituary back in January.

The thing that demonstrates just how shallow and stupid these so-called “journalists” are is the fact that many of these idiots apparently became enthralled with the chimp because he provided a better spread of food and more booze for the press corps that was following his campaign than what Gore was doing for them–this was something noted years later by some of these “journalists” when discussing WHY the MSM had acted like sock puppets for Bush back in 2000, in spite of all his gaffes and poor performances in the debates.
