The Staged Iraq War Speech & More “Creative” Embellishments

I am confident — as you surely are — that after the mainstream media sees the following, all of these stories will lead all the newscasts, as the Bosnia story has, repetitiously, for two days. RIGHT?
Jackie, a friend in Arizona, sent me an e-mail after hearing this March 25, 2008 NPR report from Don Gonyea. Gonyea reported on Obama’s now-famous 2002 anti-war speech. Jackie wrote:
Obama’s ad on anti-war speech is staged
The speech was given at an anti-war rally on Oct. 2, 2002…..Jessie Jackson was the main speaker. Obama’s speech went mainly unnoticed. He had not yet announced his run for the Senate, although now he claims he risked his political career. Of course we know that there was NO risk in running against Alan Keyes, all Obama had to do was breathe..Gonyea says…..”In an age of YouTube there is no video of the speech and only a snippet of audio. The Obama campaign has reenacted the speech in a campaign AD they are now running.”
If there is no video available it would seem the entire Obama anti-war speech on which he is basing his Ad campaign may be faked. In fact the entire speech could be distorted. LISTEN.
Is it a creation or a re-creation? You decide. But those aren’t Sen. Obama’s only “creative” embellishments:

THE EMBELLISHMENTS:
“Senator Obama has called himself a constitutional professor, claimed credit for passing legislation that never left committee, and apparently inflated his role as a community organizer among other issues. When it comes to his record, just words won’t do. Senator Obama will have to use facts as well,” Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said.
Sen. Obama consistently and falsely claims that he was a law professor. The Sun-Times reported that, “Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama’s primary [Senate] campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Obama claimed credit for nuclear leak legislation that never passed. “Obama scolded Exelon and federal regulators for inaction and introduced a bill to require all plant owners to notify state and local authorities immediately of even small leaks. He has boasted of it on the campaign trail, telling a crowd in Iowa in December that it was ‘the only nuclear legislation that I’ve passed.’ ‘I just did that last year,’ he said, to murmurs of approval. A close look at the path his legislation took tells a very different story. While he initially fought to advance his bill, even holding up a presidential nomination to try to force a hearing on it, Mr. Obama eventually rewrote it to reflect changes sought by Senate Republicans, Exelon and nuclear regulators. The new bill removed language mandating prompt reporting and simply offered guidance to regulators, whom it charged with addressing the issue of unreported leaks. Those revisions propelled the bill through a crucial committee. But, contrary to Mr. Obama’s comments in Iowa, it ultimately died amid parliamentary wrangling in the full Senate.” [New York Times, 2/2/08]
Obama misspoke about his being conceived because of Selma. “Mr. Obama relayed a story of how his Kenyan father and his Kansan mother fell in love because of the tumult of Selma, but he was born in 1961, four years before the confrontation at Selma took place. When asked later, Mr. Obama clarified himself, saying: `I meant the whole civil rights movement.’” [New York Times, 3/5/07]
LA Times: Fellow organizers say Sen. Obama took too much credit for his community organizing efforts. “As the 24-year-old mentor to public housing residents, Obama says he initiated and led efforts that thrust Altgeld’s asbestos problem into the headlines, pushing city officials to call hearings and a reluctant housing authority to start a cleanup. But others tell the story much differently. They say Obama did not play the singular role in the asbestos episode that he portrays in the best-selling memoir ‘Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.’ Credit for pushing officials to deal with the cancer-causing substance, according to interviews and news accounts from that period, also goes to a well-known preexisting group at Altgeld Gardens and to a local newspaper called the Chicago Reporter. Chicago Tribune: Obama’s assertion that nobody had indications Rezko was engaging in wrongdoing ’strains credulity.’ “…Obama has been too self-exculpatory. His assertion in network TV interviews last week that nobody had indications Rezko was engaging in wrongdoing strains credulity: Tribune stories linked Rezko to questionable fundraising for Gov. Rod Blagojevich in 2004 — more than a year before the adjacent home and property purchases by the Obamas and the Rezkos.” [Chicago Tribune editorial, 1/27/08]
Obama was forced to revise his assertion that lobbyists ‘won’t work in my White House.’ “White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was forced to revise a critical stump line of his on Saturday — a flat declaration that lobbyists ‘won’t work in my White House’ after it turned out his own written plan says they could, with some restrictions… After being challenged on the accuracy of what he has been saying — in contrast to his written pledge — at a news conference Saturday in Waterloo, Obama immediately softened what had been his hard line in his next stump speech.” [Chicago Sun-Times, 12/16/07]
FactCheck.org: `Selective, embellished and out-of-context quotes from newspapers pump up Obama’s health plan.’ “Obama’s ad touting his health care plan quotes phrases from newspaper articles and an editorial, but makes them sound more laudatory and authoritative than they actually are. It attributes to The Washington Post a line saying Obama’s plan would save families about $2,500. But the Post was citing the estimate of the Obama campaign and didn’t analyze the purported savings independently. It claims that “experts” say Obama’s plan is “the best.” “Experts” turn out to be editorial writers at the Iowa City Press-Citizen - who, for all their talents, aren’t actual experts in the field. It quotes yet another newspaper saying Obama’s plan “guarantees coverage for all Americans,” neglecting to mention that, as the article makes clear, it’s only Clinton’s and Edwards’ plans that would require coverage for everyone, while Obama’s would allow individuals to buy in if they wanted to.” [FactCheck.org, 1/3/08]

Obama said ‘I passed a law that put Illinois on a path to universal coverage,’ but Obama health care legislation merely set up a task force. “As a state senator, I brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass legislation insuring 20,000 more children. And 65,000 more adults received health care…And I passed a law that put Illinois on a path to universal coverage.” The State Journal-Register reported in 2004 that “The [Illinois State] Senate squeaked out a controversial bill along party lines Wednesday to create a task force to study health-care reform in Illinois. [...] In its original form, the bill required the state to offer universal health care by 2007. That put a ‘cloud’ over the legislation, said Sen. Dale Righter, R-Mattoon. ABC News: ‘Obama…seemed to exaggerate the legislative progress he made’ on ethics reform. “ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: During Monday’s Democratic presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., seemed to exaggerate the legislative progress he has made on disclosure of “bundlers,” those individuals who aggregate their influence with the candidate they support by collecting $2,300 checks from a wide network of wealthy friends and associates. When former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel alleged that Obama had 134 bundlers, Obama responded by telling Gravel that the reason he knows how many bundlers he has raising money for him is “because I helped push through a law this past session to disclose that.” Earlier this year, Obama sponsored an amendment [sic] in the Senate requiring lobbyists to disclose the candidates for whom they bundle. Obama’s amendment would not, however, require candidates to release the names of their bundlers. Obama drastically overstated Kansas tornado deaths during campaign appearance. “When Sen. Barack Obama exaggerated the death toll of the tornado in Greensburg, Kan, during his visit to Richmond yesterday, The Associated Press headline rapidly evolved from `Obama visits former Confederate capital for fundraiser’ to `Obama rips Bush on Iraq war at Richmond fundraiser’ to `Weary Obama criticizes Bush on Iraq, drastically overstates Kansas tornado death toll’ to `Obama drastically overstates Kansas tornado deaths during campaign appearance.’ Drudge made it a banner, ensuring no reporter would miss it.” [politico.com, 5/9/07]

I am registering as an Independent. If I vote for McCain, the concpet of which sends chills down my spine, I will change my registration the day after election day so that they know I was a Democrat who voted for McCain. Ditto, Nader.
If for some reason I am forced to do the unthinkable and vote for Obama, (if McCain suddenly goes ballistic), I will vote as an Independent.
If I stay home and don’t vote, I will also stay home as a registered Dem, then switch the day after.

I have spoken to a lot of Democrats here in Florida - esp. last month when we selected our non-invited delegates for the Dem Convention, and EVERY Clinton support, and most Edwards’ folks, said they would either not vote for the President should Obama be the nominee or would vote for McCain.
Democrats, under the best of circumstances, have a difficult time carrying Florida. A McCain vs. Obama ticket is not even a close call here in Florida. McCain wins easilty; even the rubes atthe DNC know that. If the DNC thinks that Florida’s votes are so unimportant, then we should not show up to clean for a party we weren’t invited to - and that is just what Howard Dean thinks we’ll do. We’re not stooges, Howie. Obama wants Kosovo to have free and fair elections - but not Florida.
The Sunshine State Democrats will remember our unfair treatment, and I hope the great state of Michigan does the same. Let the Democrats ride the states of Miss., SC, Alaska, (what were those other Obama monumental wins?) to a landslide in the fall! It is laughable.

The point isn’t that he never made a speech against the war, the point is that there is not hard record so he can’t ‘quote’ it, and a reenactment is rather too cute. I”m sure he made a speech against attacking Iraq, but Hillary never made one for attacking Iraq and she was also against attacking Iraq, she voted for a compromise that would keep Bush at by while Saddam was given a chance to let inspectors into his palaces and anywhere else to avoid being attacked. He did, bush bombed anyway, against the agreement that Saddam could do something to stop the invasion. then we find Saddam offered exile too and Bush, who said if he’d do that he could avert war, kept it quiet. Everyone knows that there is no video of the speech, and that they’ve had to re-enact it. The campaign long ago informed the media that the video of him delivering it is a re-enactment, and that the audio on the speech is highly limited. As Clinton supporters here repeat ad nauseum, the man was only a mere state senator at the time. The fact that it wasn’t covered by the networks, C-Span, etc., especially in an intensely pro-war media environment, really shouldn’t be all that shocking.
I did not know that until the NPR story on 3/25/08. Why don’t you write the major “news” networks and ask them to telecast this Obama 2002 speech fact in the same fashion that Hillary’s Bosina embellishment was prosecuted. Then your statement will be indeed factual.
Does his ad have a disclaimer of any sort acknowledging that the footage shown is a re-enactment? I don’t know because I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. But, from comments I’ve seen about this ad it sounds like the footage is presented as genuine. So to say everyone knows he made a speech, and everyone knows that no one, not even his own wife, bothered to videotape is just wrong. I didn’t know that.
I videotape my kids’ ball games, all of them. I videotaped my son building a fence, which was a really long boring tape. I videotaped my son’s wedding. I am not unusual or a video freak. In this age of camcorders and cell phones, somebody tapes everything.
So, Obama gives this incredibly important anti-war speech, upon which he is hanging his anti-war credentials to propel him to the White House and his wife (or his State Senate staff)didn’t bother to tape it?
I find that really incredible. If my husband was giving the speech of a lifetime, I’d be there and I’d have a tape. I’d be showing it to the relatives every goddamned holiday. The notion that Obama’s speech went unrecorded by his own family speaks volumes about how important that speech was or about how supportive his wife has been.

The point is IMPORTANT stuff is recorded to preserve for the future and for the limited purpose of showing your grandkids.

I’d take Bill Clinton as a spouse over Michelle Obama any day. I’d take him as my preacher before I would latch onto that psyho Wright. Bill Clinton has a message which resonated with everyone. Young, old, black, white. Bill Clinton really did transend all that and that is why it is so mportant for Obama to start screeching “Monica”. Obama knows most Americans are pining for the days when Clinton was President, and America was really much better off than it is now.
Bill Clinton is universally respected for his empathy for all oppressed people. When he said “I feel your pain”, you knew he really did. Barack can dream of connecting with people like Bill Clinton did and does, but he comes off as phony.
Michelle is really not nice, and goes out of her way to inject race into every speech. She is much more dishonest that Bill Clinton ever was. Wright is just plain crazy.
I’ll take a little infidelity over that kind of hate-filled filth any day. I never did care about Bill’s infidelity, that was between them. And I find her ability to forgive and move on laudable. It is only Obambastic assholes who do not believe in forgiveness. And right wing religious nuts.
Since, Bill Clinton was incredibly popular throughout the whole Monica bullshit, it is apparent the only people who found that important were Republicans and pundits. Everyone else supported him.
But, had Bill been running around spouting hate speech like Obama’s preacher and his wife have been doing, I would have left him. Many of us can deal with flaws in a spouse. We cannot tolerate evil.

Did Senator Obama deliver the anti-war speech multiple times? I saw some dated Oct 26, some dated Oct 2. And when was the nation-wide anti-war protest?
No. Just once. And he never lifted a finger to do anything more about trying to stop the war, or help any other person or group opposing the war. Not once.
Then when he got to the U.S. Senate in 2005, he didn’t join Feingold, Kerry, et al. in their attempts to begin to bring the troops home. He stayed out of their efforts while voting for all funding authorizations.
Then I have to look into this.

Yeah, I heard the NPR story yesterday morning and was
glad someone on the MSM airwaves finally pointed out that (a) he was not runing for US Senate and (b) there is a only a 13 second snipet available (I am sure they have a full video someowhere …).
The question is as always : what else did he do? No op-eds, no other public speeches, nothing.
Did he even say anything in support of all the anti-war rallies? No; nada.
