TPM’s Josh Marshall Encourages YouTubes “to Make Sen. Clinton Look as Foolish as Possible”

“Progressive” blogger Joshua Micah Marshall at Talking Points Memo continues his obsession with the “Hillary Clinton-Bosnia-Sniper” story. On Thursday, as of 21:00 ET, Marshall totally ignores the major economic policy speech by Sen. Obama for more pressing matters: YouTube mashups!

The Clinton-Bosnia-Sniper story seems to be peaking. And there have been a lot of snippets of video swirling around YouTube with this or that part of the story. But most of them are incomplete or rapid-fire-cut or edited to make Sen. Clinton look as foolish as possible. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, as Jerry Seinfeld used to say. We do those kinds of videos too. But since you’ve probably seen a lot of those, we wanted to go back and put together all the key moments in roughly chronological order — what Sen. Clinton said on different occasions, the key video from the trip, what other eyewitnesses say, what her spokespersons and aides say, etc.

Obama’s economic speech was surprisingly given zero front page coverage. The indictment of the Puerto Rico governor was also ignored. Clinton’s call for Democratic unity was also ignored.

You won’t believe what TPM did earlier in the month of March:

Veteran political writer Linda Hirshman says she was cut as a TPM Cafe contributor for “not making the case for Obama.” Their reason: “We’re focusing on getting our long-standing regulars and folks covering things we don’t on the blog.”

Covering things like, YouTube mashups of the Bosnia visit?

That website has become a joke. It used to be one of the better blogs on the net. Marshall actually has a PhD and at one time analyzed issues. Now he makes silly videos and uses poor attempts at humor to make sophomoric points. Its also ironic that Marshall was a supporter of the march to the Iraq war (along with the rest of the media) and now is blaming Clinton for her vote.

And has become an ideologue, losing any objectivity,

if he was ever any good to begin with.

If he’s biased, and self unaware, a victim of his neurosis, not even interested in fairness, what good is a PhD?

You expect to use a simplistic level of education, running contrary to real time results, as proof of competency, given his actual output?

My goodness, Bremer has a PhD, and Brown was a lawyer.

YOU are a lousy analyst.

Perhaps you could find a position with the Bush administration, running the Iraq war.

You’re all incompetent fools.

Wow. Glad I never became a TPM regular. Marshall sounds like a total douchebag. I hope Clinton supporters never go to that site again even long after this election is over. If he wants to set up a personal blog bashing Clinton then so be it but I have a problem with people who pretend that they own a supposedly fair and balanced mainstream political journalism site or news network (MSNBC) when it’s just a ruse to post anti-Clinton articles.

TPM has become the headquarters for the Obama Jihadis. Axelrod strapped the suicide vest on Marshall and he gleefully blew his journalistic reputation to smithereens. It’s a mess over there.

Depending on your POV, the saddest of the suicides are Pelosi, and Dean.

Who knew they’d give up their positions, their credibility, and reputations, for a two bit crook out of Chicago, that being Obama.

So, when does the next Obama scandal hit?

Well, it is information warfare, and Obama’s group isn’t too bright…

Josh Marshall is the official stenographer for the Obama campaign. Why not retitle his blog as “Obama’s Talking Points Memo”?

Comment by Gabriele Droz | 2008-03-27 23:42:09

Brilliant. I think we all, when and if we post on TPM, should have “Obama’s Talking Points Memo” as our subject title (regardless of the subject we’re addressing). If enough of us do it….hmmm.

My younger sister began calling Marshall’s site Talking Pimped Memo after he initially and then misrepresented Sen. Clinton’s letter of protest to MSNBC as a call to fire miscreant reporter David Schuster, after the latter denigrated daughter Chelsea’s role in the campaign.

Good News Hillary Fans!

We went to the FIRST meetup for Hillary in our County in NC tonight and according to the “recorder” there were 4 times MORE people that showed up compared to last year!

SUPPORT is growing in Western NC for Hillary!! It was a GREAT meeting and I added NO Quarter to the list of “Nice to Hillary” websites! They only had Taylor Marsh listed! I had to add a few.

So hopefully you will get a bit more traffic soon. (I’m sure your traffic is great already)

Oh and Bill is gonna be at the local High School tomorrow night! Can’t WAIT! I hope Hillary makes it up this way too before May. This extended campaign is a GOOD thing (for the VOTERS).

Comment by llilytoo | 2008-03-28 01:25:08

I so agree the longer campaign is good for the voters AND Hill. She takes it and enjoys herself. BO was back from vacation one day and calls this campaign a death march. What will he think of a GOP campaign ?? I can’t believe anyone thinks he’s making it to the White House

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-03-28 08:58:32

Do you have a link to where he called the campaign a death march? I have a friend who’s uncle died on the Bataan Death March. She’s an avid Obama supporter. I wonder how she will feel about that reference if I can show her proof he said it.

Josh Marshal, Markos, Avarois…blah, blah, blah…the list of liberal bloggers who turned Freeper is sadly long. They now relish in using the same morally bankrupt techniques of the swiftboaters they once abhored, and its enough to make any real democrat wanna puke their guts out.
They have shown their true colors, and we are better off in the knowing. Personally, I no longer trust a single word any of them puts to print. For the same reasons Reverend Wright would never be my preacher, the Oblogosphere will never get a hearing from me.

Comment by tiffany | 2008-03-28 08:50:22

I read somewhere that these phony, dishonest and deceptive bloggers(Arianna, Marshall, Markos, Aravosis)were or still are Republicans. If true, that is all we need to know. They are all despicable and have become what they have criticised and loathed. UGH! Boycott them all as I have done!

The most pressing issue is to attack HRC and maker her so bruised and force her delegates to abandon her. Those attacks are counterproductive in the selection of the best Democrat to run against McCain. In the past I felt despondent when Americans elected inferior candidates (Republicans), and this is the first time since I became a citizen in the early 80s that I feel absolutely turned off by the Democratic opponent. I’ve lost all respect for Obama and will not vote for him in November if he becomes the candidate. HRC better be the Democratic nominee.

The biggest problem the Obama idiots like Mcpeak, say, face, in not understanding the playing field isn’t equal.

They simply cannot grasp HOW they are being manipulated, a little ex army, here and there, isn’t enough to take on, or understand the true motivations.

It’s imperative not to overestimate your power, if it hasn’t worked for Bush, it won’t work for Obama.

A guy like Skeletor is useless.

A smart guy would already know Obama is toast, and a smart guy would stop to wonder how he was being manipulated.

It’s an hermetically sealed environment, even for the trolls, here, “thinking raccoons” they were termed, once, except I would add “french thinking raccoons,” they wear a beret, those pretensions toward true intellectualism.

And they lose, so caught up in the momentary battle, they can’t see the forest through the trees.

But they were never smart enough, they just do as they’re told.

And being true French renaissance “men,” they still don’t get it.

Really, there was a, um, questionable post on my DD today, trying to compare this campaign, and Obama’s techniques, to a military campaign, and um, hey, the US position is losing, and it’s the Mcpeaks and Axelrods who are losing it.

Damn.

Did you think they were making progress?

I was a long time daily reader of TPM. I was there before he started shilling for W’s war. I basically forgave him for that although I never have forgotten that egregious lapse in judgment. It’s funny but a couple of years ago I thought that we were coming to a place where the real progressive people will have to break the ties with Marshall and Kos and many others.

But Marshall was there on Social Security. He held all the little critters’ little paws to the fire. He was instrumental in turning that movement back in the House and Senate when the GOP ran it all still. Marshall’s not exactly been completely useless but now this propagandizing posture he’s trotted out, along with his cheap tricks, make him seem so.

I’ve quit visiting most of the progressive blogs on the net and have taken most of the links off of my own blog. I had the crazy notion for the past few years that being a progressive and having a blog actually meant standing behind certain principles. It was quite a let down to find out that the only principle many of these so called progressive bloggers believe in is self promotion.

It certainly is difficult to decide which has become the worst of the lot but my vote goes for Avarosis and Sudbuy’s Americablog Obamablog. They’re not even worth visiting to ridicule any more as it is nothing but one continual endless Hilary hatefest. I think they both are in serious need of therapy.

I thought it strange that Avarosis dropped the McClurkin matter so quickly, the day after beginning to sell T-shirts about Obama. I found out later why. As was revealed in later posts on the site, Avarosis was in direct contact with the Obama campaign. So Judas Avarosis decided to sell out his brethren because he had become so starry eyed with the fact that the Obama campaign needed him and Hilary hadn’t. As a matter of fact, when Obama did the same thing later with Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwel, he slobbered all over himself explaining why it just didn’t matter after all.

I’ve talked to the Obama campaign about this…The reason the McClurkin controversy really got my goat wasn’t that Obama had scheduled a homophobic superstar to emcee a campaign event. (I doubt Obama knew about McClurkin’s dark side when the event was scheduled.) What bothered me was that even after Obama learned that McClurkin was a real jerk he still kept him on the schedule (and surprise, surprise, McClurkin then spent half an hour at the event railing against gays). From what we know, Caldwell isn’t McClurkin - Caldwell may embrace the “ex-gays,” but he’s not an ex-gay leader like McClurkin (though I’m not going to give the guy any PFLAG awards). But more importantly, Caldwell doesn’t appear to have any role at all in the Obama campaign, nor will he (though he did appear previously at a few Obama events). If that’s true, and coming on the heels of Obama’s rather gutsy pro-gay comments at MLK’s church yesterday morning, I’m a lot less troubled by this controversy than I was the previous.

As usual, it was “watch what I say” ignore “what I do” once again.

Worse, if you go back to two days after New Hampshire, Avarosis made the declaration on his blog that New Hampshire voters must have been racist because Obama lost with this post: Did race cost Obama the win in New Hampshire? And the racism mud slinging had begun. It’s a theme that has carried forward even now as we all know. It was more than obvious that the blogs were no longer independent. They had latched onto and were working with the Obama campaign regardless of any principles they had espoused over the years.

And voter disenfranchisement? How many times did the progressive blogs rant, rave, and carry on in post after post about how the Republicans want to disenfranchise voters? Now, they not only have to look the other way when Obama says he doesn’t want Michigan and Florida voters to count, they have to embrace voter disenfranchisement by trying to get Hilary to drop out before the rest of the states holding primaries have their say. Principles? What principles? They have none.

Comment by Anna Belle | 2008-03-28 11:15:31

Bravo! You nailed it. No principles, just small angry men who will bitch about anything just to bitch. As long as it’s actually without danger, that is. Key-board commandos, I think they universally called the rightosphere. And here they are the key-board commandos. As I’ve said elsewhere, the new boys club is the same as the old boys club.

I stopped visiting Americablog after the ABC “Path to 9-11″ so-called boycott. It was less than a week before JA started using ABC sources again, and he did so without comment. I knew then that he was a man without principle, so I left.

TPM Josh Marshall has mentioned many times that he is Jewish. Many of my Jewish friends are concerned about Obama being perhaps more interested in the other side — rather than having an even handed approach to issues involving Israel and Palestine. Rev. Wright, Obama’s mentor, comes across as being very biased or anti-Jews in some of his rants from the pulpit.

I’m just wondering how someone like Marshall squares his view on Israel with what would seem to be the Obama camp’s alternative reality.

It seems that the Obamabots are somehow able to set aside their cognitive dissonance and continue to ignore all the warning signs that Obama & his advisers keep giving.

Female Obamabots are just as dogmatic about their man Obama — and he is a misogynist.

One of the few things that was interesting about listening to the Obamabots at the WA caucus in February is how the Obamabots could vote AGAINST their own best interest. A nurse for Obama go up and told us that she “believed” that Obama would pass Universal Health Care. (In fact it is very unlikely that UHC is a priority for Obama. A Nurse for Clinton, explained how Obama’s plan was unworkable, etc. She used FACTS, unlike the Obamabots.) The people who got up and “spoke for Obama” were all voting against their best interesting AND they had NO IDEA what he really stood for. All they do is make misstatements about Senator Clinton’s positions on issues or lie about her positions. Everything they claimed she was for — in fact Obama was the evil one — for example Obama was getting more funding from CORPORATIONS than Clinton was.

We can only guess at Obama’s positions on most issues from his advisor’s statements and some of his “me too” remarks AFTER Clinton has given her detailed positions on issues.

Anyway — my Jewish friends will NOT be voting for Obama, because they are not sure about how Obama really feels about Israel. Obama’s advisers don’t seem pro-Israel to them. THEY don’t have cognitive dissonance.

Of course if the blog Boyz like TPM are getting funded and ego boosts from the Obama camp — this would go a long way in helping them ignore Cognitive Dissonance. (And would also make them alternative media whores).

Same here. What he likes (I guess) is the money from the circle-jerk “hits”, and the sense of being in the “In-crowd”, as opposed to his former work with the DLC.

Personally, I find him shameless… a perfect fit for Obarry.

Haven’t missed the site at all–that’s one thing about the Internet–a new one shows up every day or so.

There’s no way Marshall can make Clinton look as stupid and unprepared as Obama.

Comment by MarkL | 2008-03-28 10:16:43

TPM also failed to give any coverage to the Kerry and McCaskill racist gaffe’s.
Those were a very important story, because they proved (along with Obama’s “typical white woman” smear) that offending people on racial issues is universal.
After seeing those remarks, there’s no question at all that the supposed racist slurs by people on the Clinton campaign were no such thing—they were the ordinary awkwardness which ALL people have when discussing race.

Comment by Kourian | 2008-03-28 12:21:20

This is maybe the first time I’ve been interested in an election. Probably the last too. Either things will turn out OK or they’ll be so ridiculous there’s no chance of hope anymore.

One thing I think I’ve come upon researching all this Hillary vitriol: it’s about ’socialism’. People have been programmed to think this is vile. Literally programmed like some are programmed to be racist. They can pick up a clue really cheap if they want: almost all other countries in the western world today are ’socialist’. But the US: people continue to live in the dark ages. The only country this way without a comprehensive health care system for everyone with no up front cost either. When you look further - when you look at all the other ways people are getting screwed left and right ONLY in the US - you have to wonder.

But there are people out there who are so rabid about this. I don’t know where they’re coming from. But it seems all the ‘anti’ Hill stuff no matter what it looks like superficially is actually using other things to attack her because she’s perceived as ’socialist’. Which again almost everybody in the west with half a brain already is. Except people in the US.

And that’s my theory about what fuels their vitriol. Whatever. Cheers.

It might interest some of you to know that, until recently, pro-Obama commenters on TPM regularly accused him of excessive pro-Hillary bias.

The fact of the matter is that Hillary’s poor performance and divisive campaign style has driven several key bloggers who at one time actually leaned in favor of Hillary, into the Obama camp, including Josh M., Kevin Drum, Atrios, and James Fallows. You might try exploring the why’s of this.

You might also ask why it makes sense to bash Josh Marshall for changing his mind about a war you’re against, while you defend your candidate for refusing to change her’s.
