Rev. Wright’s New $1.6M Digs
By SusanUnPC on March 28, 2008 at 11:11 AM in Barack Obama, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.
On top of Barack Obama’s continuing evasive and, frankly, untruthful statements about his 20 years with Rev. Wright (more about that below), we have this: OBAMA’S FORMER PASTOR GETTING $1.6M HOME IN RETIREMENT (news story): “A two-week FOX News investigation [has] uncovered where Wright will be spending a good deal of his time in retirement, and it is a far cry from the impoverished Chicago streets where the preacher led his ministry for 36 years. …” HERE is the video report on the new home:
Meanwhile, reports the Times UK, “Rev Jeremiah Wright lands Barack Obama in trouble again.” And Barack keeps telling variations of his cooked-up story about Wright:
Obama is still dissembling about his relationship with Rev. Wright, and his 20-year strong association with the church. From The Trail, the Washington Post’s campaign blog:
On Wright Question, Unclear Answers From Obama
By Perry Bacon Jr.While he has discussed his relationship with the former pastor of his church constantly over the last two weeks, it’s still unclear what exactly Barack Obama heard as he sat in the pews of Trinity United Church of Christ.
[...]
Wright said “some objectionable things when I wasn’t in church on those particular days, and I have condemned them outright,” Obama told the crowd, according to NBC News.
Interviewed on March 14 on Fox News, Obama also noted he had not been in church for Wright’s controversial remarks, saying “none of these statements were ones I had heard myself personally in the pews.”
But in his speech in Philadelphia about race last week, Obama described his recollections slightly differently.
“Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes,” Obama said.
Obama aides have not said specified which of Wright’s sermons the candidate attended or if there was a difference between “objectionable” comments Obama did not hear and “controversial” ones he did.
But Obama defended his pastor last week and again yesterday …

So after a week’s vacation, Obama and his staff thought this was the best approach to this issue that won’t die? Plus, going on The View? Geesh.
Bottom line, if Hillary does NOT get he nomination will you support McCain and give the Republicans the opportunity to appoint more rightwing justices to the Supreme Court? Do we really want Republicans to have even more say in every single aspect of our lives? Make no mistake, if McCain is elected he will appoint more Alitos and Scalias.
I am an Obama supporter but I will vote for Clinton if he doesn’t gett he nomination. The SCOTUS picks are paramount.
SCOTUS is always my bottom line.
My chief concern is this: WIll Barack Obama stand up to the intense presssure of conservatives and Republicans? I doubt it. That is grave cause for worry.
He has a very poor record in the U.S. Senate of standing up to conservatives and Republicans.
For example, Hillary Clinton voted against the confirmation of Gen. Casey because of his lack of awareness or concern for wounded soldiers, while Barack Obma blithely voted for him.
And so on.
Like Cheney’s monstrous 2005 Energy Bill; Obama: Yea
Like the Dayton Amendment to the 2005 bankruptcy bill that would freeze credit card interest rates at no higher than 30%; Obama : Nay
“For example, Hillary Clinton voted against the confirmation of Gen. Casey because of his lack of awareness or concern for wounded soldiers, while Barack Obma blithely voted for him.”
Fair point. Say, why didn’t Hillary Clinton stand up against the credit card companies and vote against credit card bankruptcy bill? Why did she support it–twice?
She voted Yea to the Dayton Amendment to the 2005 bankruptcy bill that would freeze credit card interest rates at no higher than 30%; Obama : Nay.
Bottom Line: Yes, I will withhold my support from Obama if he is the nominee, even if that aids in the election of John McCain and four years of his appointments to the federal court.
Because I will NOT be blackmailed by the SCOTUS argument into voting for a guy I think would be an absolute disaster as a President, a guy I think ran a vicious, race-baiting, smear campaign to get the Democratic nomination for President, a guy I think is a two-bit phony con artist.
Sorry, no sale. If you really care so much about the SCOTUS appointments, you’ll back Hillary. It’s the Obamabots who are handing the country over to McCain with your idiot “see no evil, hear no evil” hero worship.
a guy I think would be an absolute disaster as a President, a guy I think ran a vicious, race-baiting, smear campaign to get the Democratic nomination for President, a guy I think is a two-bit phony con artist
Hear hear. I had the opportunity a few years back to talk with people in Germany who remembered the 1930s and the 1940s and tried to alert others of the coming danger. NO ONE LISTENED. THEY WANTED A CHARISMATIC LEADER.
Afterwards they shrugged their shoulders and insisted ‘but we didn’t know’.
And between the one and the other tens of millions of people were killed and the world was catapulted into a world war.

I’m just glad that no one here is descending into ridiculous historical non-parallels and beyond-the-pale hyperbole.
And I wish you could add more to the conversation than snark.
“And I wish you could add more to the conversation than snark.”
When someone like Kourian stoops so low as to compare Obama to Hitler, I think it’s only decent to step in and call them on it.
Mr. Hope cannot and will not win against the Republican slime machine. They are foaming at the mouth to run against him. The repub party has no qualms about playing “the race card” against Mr. Hope. Are you kidding me? Why anyone thinks he can withstand the slime that will surely come his way from the McCain camp is beyond me. THAT is why you need to be supporting Hillary. SHE CAN AND WILL WIN against those thugs. She’s been there/done that. There’s NOTHING they can throw at her that they haven’t already tried. She’s still standing.
Mr. Hope has no experience. He has no business running for president. He won’t win. If you REALLY care about the SCOTUS, then you should be supporting the candidate that can win. Period.
Obama was ready to vote for John Roberts. Why didn’t he? His advisors said that this vote would be brought up every time he ran for “office”. So, what dissuaded Obama from voting for Roberts was only his personal ambition. So, if he became President, I have little confidence that he would appoint pro-choice justices and even less as regards to economic issues.
read his comments regarding why he voted against… it’s on the web and on his senate web page.
“I want to take Judge Roberts at his word that he doesn’t like bullies and he sees the law and the Court as a means of evening the playing field between the strong and the weak. But given the gravity of the position to which he will undoubtedly ascend and the gravity of the decisions in which he will undoubtedly participate during his tenure on the Court, I ultimately have to give more weight to his deeds and the overarching political philosophy that he appears to have shared with those in power than to the assuring words that he provided me in our meeting.
The bottom line is this: I will be voting against John Roberts’ nomination”
That was AFTER his advisors told him not to support Roberts for POLITICAL reasons, dummy.
Can’t you read?
“dummy”? grow up. I read what you insinuated. Show me where they actually said what you presuppose - nevermind you don’t want evidence, you prefer to stick w/ your beliefs. Fair enough
“I ultimately have to give more weight to his deeds and the overarching political philosophy that he appears to have shared with those in power than to the assuring words that he provided me in our meeting.”
WOW! Is Obama talking of himself?
“the Court as a means of evening the playing field between the strong and the weak”
Sorry BO, it may have that effect at times, but that is NOT what the court is about. This gutless wonder has a law degree? How many examples of how clueless the Senator is when it comes to Constitutional Law and the role of the Supremes.
The SCOTUS argument is not that simple minded: President nominates but it is Congress’s responsibility to confirm. Vote Dems. for Congress and expect them to do their job. They are likely to get a majority and they better show some spine.
SCOTUS is a wrench that has been used often from the right and the left to coerse people to vote for one or other candidate. But it’s one of those “half-truth” argument: it is not just the President. Congress is the bottom line, Congress should be where the “buck stops” in SC appointments.
Do we have an idea of who would a Obama might nominate? Because his entourage and tendency to be a “facilitator” is…well not very
comforting to say the least.
That’s the best argument I’ve read on the SCOTUS ploy, Andy.
You rock.
(’sides, I suspect the Senate GOP will run over a president Obama with a bulldozer and he’ll cave, cave, cave — literally and figuratively. That’s what happens when you don’t have a backbone.)
Robert Bork is the perfect example.
Everything seems to indicate that your suspicions are absolutely right that when you say:
“Do we have an idea of who would a Obama might nominate?”
He’s the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate, according to the non-partisan National Journal. That information might help with your assessment.
Will Willl:
We have answered you that fallacy already. Stop quoting half-truths; they won’t get you anywhere here:
ONLY IN THE LAST YEAR at the US Senate.
Obama is the flashy show off kind of guy, you know.
So, no, absolutely that does not say anything about who would he nominate. Do you have a clue?
Tell me some names you think he would bring forward.
I don’t know, artmann.
Obama’s latest endorsement—Bob Casey—is strongly prolife and voted FOR Roberts and Alito.
Perhaps Obama is sending you a message in how HE will view the SC choices.
Obama is unqualified. Why should I back an unqualified nominee over someone of the other party who is qualified, even though I don’t agree with his politics?
That’s a tough choice. Fortunately I live in a state Obama would lose by 30% or more, so I don’t have to decide.
Finally, Obama supporters are getting around the realization that HE NEEDS US. Well, that certainly took long enough.
But guess what? It’s too late for this Hillary supporter. In the beginning I was on the ‘Party Line’ page. And then, the nastiness from the Obama camp was relentless. So much so that I will now NOT vote for him. I no longer care about SCOTUS. I believe Obama will nominate someone who will turn out to be like Bush’s Souter appointment and then claim ‘OOPS.’ You know, like his State Senate ‘no’ votes.
Obama is a sexist. He also will cater to Republicans. I know this like I know my own name. The signs are already there. So if I’m going to have a Republican, then I might as well have McCain, who is fairly centrist and who knows, anything is possible. I also think, given the condition the country is in, the next POTUS is going to be a one term president.
Obama could have had this nomination wrapped up weeks ago. But his people acted like shits. And the Party leadership did too. They simply should have let this thing play out without taking sides. At one point Obama did have moomentum going for him and he did not need the public endorsement of people like Kennedy and Kerry. When people look back on how this thing played out, people are going to skewer the leadership for this lack of wisdom on their part. Had everyone just simply waited, there would not be all of these hard feelings and everyone would have been united under one cause. I know I would have. And the fact that they can’t see this, only makes matters worse.
I’m done with the Deocratic Party and will register Independent. As far as I’m concerned, this is the ‘change’ Obama’s promised. And consdering how the Party leaders helped cause this chaos, I see it as a good thing.
I’m growing more disillusioned and disgusted with the democratic party every day. I have no more respect for Pelosi, Leahy, Reid or Dean. On the other hand, I also have no respect for Markos, Josh, or Arianna either.
If Florida and Michigan are not going to be counted, why shouldn’t I express my solidarity with those voters by withholding my vote for the Democratic Party in November?
Don’t really care what arguments anyone puts forth to dissuade me. I won’t hear them anymore than Obama supporters are willing to hear the facts about their con-didate.
Just wait till the chorus of “and what’s WRONG with a black man having a nice house, what are you, racists or something?” starts in the media. It will join the “Rev. Wright taken out of context” chorus which will continue to the fall campaign.
And the result of this “you only think this way because America is racist” strategy? Obama wins one or two states this November. Thanks, Obama campaign. Thanks, DNC. Thanks, Caucus states. Thanks, college kids. Thanks, Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Bill Richardson, etc. etc.
“Thanks, college kids.”
Why don’t you leave the kids out of it, will ya?
Go away.
Frankly, I don’t understand the focus… shall we take a look at Hillary’s extremely close connections to and endorsement of Doug Coe and the Fellowship?
Following the standards that have been in place w/ Wright (and I’m not saying the objections are wrong or out of place, his words are crazy) - shouldn’t we look at Hillary and Coe with the same critical eyes?
And Susan, are you saying that Hillary has never succumbed “to the intense presssure of conservatives and Republicans”?
Don’t change the subject.
I didn’t, start w/ the initial reply to Susan then get back to me.
Coulda Shoulda Woulda
after 20 years?
Obama would have left if Wright stayed
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080328/ap_on_el_pr/obama_wright
If bullshit was music Barack would be Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Four Tops, and the Supremes all rolled into one.
Excuse, you should not take the lord’s, or the gods of American music names, in vain.
Obama would be Rick Astley, ie, “he had a big fat hit that was ghastly.”
He’s just not that good, son.
Okay, thank you Simon for my first laugh of the day! Rick Astley - OMG. Good one!
Rick Astley, what a great analogy for so many reasons! For those who don’t know, Rick’s career was due to a “hit-making machine,” a production/management company run by a Svengali-like producer who signed young, naieve artists with a modicum of talent, ate ‘em up and when he was done with ‘em, spit ‘em out!
Sound familiar?
Jeebus. He is so screwed. “The reverend retired five minutes ago! Why do the last 20 years of our extremely close relationship matter?”
Either he holds Reverend Wright’s views himself, or he doesn’t have the judgment or spine to ACT on his so-called principles.
That’s what people not blinded by Obama’s charisma understand. It gives us pause to think a person this disingenuous or lacking in judgment could be President.
Haven’t we had enough of a person like that leading the nation?
again, if this logic holds true for Obama and Wright, then it also holds true for Hillary and some of her questionable contacts such as Doug Coe…
And frankly, yes - we should be looking at both candidates as job applicants and examining in depth all their past associations, but to just leap to these conclusions is kind of silly.
By your implication - Hillary meeting w/ Mellon Scaife is an explicit endorsement by her of his past comments regarding her and Bill.
An endorsement is not the same thing as a 20-year close relationship. Why is this simple fact so difficult for Obamans to grasp?
As for Scaife, Hillary has done exactly what Obama claims to do - win over the other side. They respect her because she has beaten them. That’s the only way to deal with bullies like RMS.
Obama doesn’t get that either.
I see… except, she’s been working w/ Coe for 15 years. It’s much more than just an endoresement. But nevermind that, you miss entirely my initial point.
Doesn’t matter since we’re not going to agree on that initial point and you choose not to consider it.
No, Kevin, it’s that you’re just not credible on this subject.
If you really grasped my point, you would not bring up Scaife. Her doing an interview with him is not the same as either an endorsement OR a 20-year close relationship with an anti-American, racist preacher.
Trust me, if there were YouTubes of Clinton’s spiritual mentor (who, according to Mother Jones, is a moderate Methodist minister named Don Jones, not Coe and The Fellowship ZOMG) screaming God Damn America, we’d be saying the same things about her.
“They respect her because she has beaten them.”
How exactly has she “beaten them”?
Did you miss the part where she was elected to the Senate twice? At first the right-leaning upstaters thought she was too liberal for them, but her second term was a landslide after they saw how effective, compassionate and intelligent she is.
You should read “Blinded by the Right.” They did their best and they didn’t succeed.
She ran against an unknown, unaccomplished congressman from Long Island who she outspent the first time. She then ran against an unknown mayor of Yonkers her second time who she outspent by $60 million dollars.
Haven’t we had enough of a person like that leading the nation?
I know it; you know it; but it seems a lot of first time voters don’t know it. If you check the SurveyUSA polls for PA you’ll see: Obama’s popularity is greatest in the 18-34 demographic. (They didn’t survey 10-18 so there’s nothing to go on there.) And as the age goes up his popularity goes down. Dramatically. Almost as if the older people get the harder it is to bamboozle them with the Okie Dokie.
I think a lot of these fanatical - at times brutal - first time voters don’t know how bad things can get. Or what can happen if you let a cult of personality decide everything. They neither have memories themselves or have anyone near them who can tell them how ugly it gets. And we all shall have to pay for the mistake they make.
Actually, the Wright videos on YouTube have severely affected Obama’s support with that youth vote.
They’re deeply offended and disilluioned, and won’t vote for him in November.
Had these videos come out before Iowa, he wouldn’t have there , either.
You gotta wonder why CNN and MSNBC , even though Fox News has been discussing Wright for a year, NEVER mentioned Wright at all. CNN & MSNBC knew, because the videos were on Fox News all that time.
I was looking around at groups while on my Facebook account — and I noticed a very strange thing. The Obama groups, filled with young hipsters, have gone strangely cold lately. Very few comments after February… It’s like been there, done that, got the bumper sticker, moved on. That’s the trouble with that type of superficial support. First there’s the “next big thing” mentality which makes support cyclical, then when the stuff really comes out about the ‘rock star’, support really dries up.
The reason so many young people supported Obama is because they really believed the hype that he somehow transcended race and we were all one big happy family. to their horror, they’re finding that Obama’s preacher and “mentor” and “friend” is preaching quite the opposite. His supporters are young, but they’re not stupid. My daughter said that many Obamas supporters at her school are FORMER Obama supporters, for both of those reasons.
My son said the same. They’re ANGRY that he tried to bamboozle them.
He ain’t got the youth vote anymore.
WOnder why the MSM isn’t tracking and reporting on this???
“You gotta wonder why CNN and MSNBC , even though Fox News has been discussing Wright for a year, NEVER mentioned Wright at all.”
Maybe because CNN and MSNBC, unlike FOX News, don’t have a vested interest in destroying the front-runner for the Democratic nomination.
Good Lord, Will.
Even my college-aged son isn’t as naive and uninformed as you are.
Go away, dipstick.
“Even my college-aged son isn’t as naive and uninformed as you are.”
That’s an odd way to “compliment” your son. It’s like me saying “even my mother isn’t as stupid as you, Mary.” “Even“?
Actually that is exactly what they did. Hillary CLinton was the frontrunner for the DEmocratic nomination until she got beaten up in a Debate by the male candidates, cheered on the Russert abd Williams. They were ecnouraged to attack her relentlessly.
After that it was nonstop Hillary hate on all channels by every pundit. But, not a word of any Obama scandal was ever uttered on those channels.
SO, apparently CNN and MSNBC do think it was their job to take down the Democratic frontrunner and the only Democrat who could win the GE. You forget who the frontrunner was even a few months ago.
Now that Obama is self destructing, they are back to full on Hillary hate mode.
Obama doesn’t have charisma per se, what he does have is the ability to make a lot of white college kids and 20 something yuppies feel good about themselves.
Look no mature adult would buy crap like this “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for” Only gullible joe college types with self-esteem problems could possibly believe such tripe.
Plus he has the MSM in his pocket that does all his spinning for him.
As for Obama and Wright, Obama would not have associated with him for 20 years with a black David Duke and had him as his mentor unless he agreed with him.
Which makes him a race baiter and bigot like Wright and he’s made it clear he doesn’t like whites period, especially those who are offended by Wrights hate mongering.
Are you kidding me? He said that?
I just set my DVR to record The View. That’s the first time I’ve ever done that. Snort.
Yes, and then Barbara Wah-wah told him they all thought he was SEXY. And they all giggled.
Good GAWD.
If it’s “true” that Rev. Wright acknowledged his inappropriate statements, then why didn’t Obama say that in his “history-making” speech two weeks ago? Unless, he’s….lying? Covering up? Making excuses? He reminds me of the Bill Cosby routine where his kid breaks the lamp…”I didn’t do it, I wasn’t here, I didn’t see it” Either he should denounce him or stop addressing the issue. He’s making Democrats look like idiots.
NEWS FLASH: Rev. Jeremiah Wright is not running for president. Try running against Barack Obama, not Jeremiah Wright. This is getting absurd.
Astute observation. Not many understood this. Thanks for bringing it up. You can leave now.
You sit in the pew, you share the view. It is that simple. Obama sat in that church for 20 years. He had to know the philosophy of both Rev. Wright and the church. Some of those views are not what I want a president of all the people to have. You would not excuse Clinton, McCain or any other candidate if they had stayed in a church that had core beliefs that were anti any race or anti American. To use one of the Obama camps favorite words, I think it is disingenious of you to excuse Obama’s behavior that way.
“You sit in the pew, you share the view. It is that simple.”
It’s not that simple. But it is a good rhyme.
“You would not excuse Clinton, McCain or any other candidate if they had stayed in a church that had core beliefs that were anti any race or anti American”
I would take the time to learn more, than just grab a few crazy quotes over a decades-long career by an ex-marine, extrapolate those quotes into completely defining the man who said them, and then by association spread that definition to any of the visitors to his church, whether they be Obama or Clinton.
Some pretty crazy things are starting to filter out now about Hillary’s religious practices. This is not a road you really want to continue down…
http://thecurrent.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/03/clinton-fellowship.php
Will,
“The Family” is a conservative, traditional, orthodox, mainstream Christian prayer fellowship that caters to high-level decision makers. It’s not a policy think tank or lobbyist group. It’s a gathering of traditional Christians who do not agree on every topic, but share a belief in the salvific narrative of the Christian Gospel. Believe it or not, the majority of people who vote “Democratic” share that opinion.
I realize that to someone like yourself — who no doubt thinks “christianity” is diversion at best, allowing an excuse for “good works”, and a crazy cult at worst, full of people who want to “save” you — the idea of a Christian who adheres to the basic tenets of the Faith is a dangerous zealot. “Oh my Gandalf! She prays with Republicans!”
When “liberals” attack a group like that, and try to compare it to the hate-filled demagoguery of a Jeremiah Wright, you make the same mistake that Howard Dean made when he said Democrats need to “learn how to appear religious”. Playing with rosary beads for the camera (Kerry), or mispronouncing books of the bible (Dean) is a transparent, phony attempt to make Democrats seem palatable to middle America. I have no doubt that Dean and Pelosi looked at Obama and thought: “Oh look. He attends a church! We can sell him to the rubes!”
The differences between The Family and Jeremiah Wright (and your inability to understand what’s going on) is simply another example of how Obama will go down as an unmitigated disaster for the Democratic Party this fall. The blood-letting that will begin in 2009 may well bring about the demise of the Democratic Party as it was reconstituted by FDR. Obama’s candidacy drives wedges between all the constituate groups of the coalition, leaving the “elites” above it all, but isolated from the heart of America as never before.
You may get your Obama nmination, but it will be a Pyhrric victory. And then you will blame Clinton and the DLC for your own suicidal charge into the teeth of the American electorate.
Ummmm… ya might want to do more reading up on The Fellowship… they’re much more than the benign, uninvolved politically, group you make them out to be.
“Jesus says, ‘You have to put me before other people, and you have to put me before yourself.’ Hitler, that was the demand of the Nazi Party. You have to put the Nazi Party and its objectives in front of your own life and ahead of other people!”
“I’ve seen pictures of young men in the Red Guard of China, a table laid out like a butcher table, they would bring in this young man’s mother and father, lay her on the table with a basket on the end, he would take an axe and cut her head off.”
“They have to put the purposes of the Red Guard ahead of the mother-father-brother-sister—their own life !”
“That was a covenant. A pledge. That was what Jesus said.”
- Doug Coe, head of ‘The Family’, AKA ‘The Fellowship’, as quoted in Jeff Sharlet’s upcoming book, The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power

Thank you, PMS.
And I agree. If Obama wins the nomination, it is unlikely he will win the Presidency. And of course, it will all be Hillary’s “fault.” Because they are just victims of the system.
Yes.
If Obama loses in November, it will because “America is racist.”
Period. Nothing else.
It’s crap.

You don’t know a damn thing about my religion. Your blatantly groundless assumptions undermine your pose as an open-minded Christian.

Jo:
You are absolutely right and anyone with 2 neurons worth in their brains have the ability to
see this. That Obama continues to insult people’s intelligence is incredible. But…wait…actually
maybe Obama is talking down to his supporters…:
from what some Obama’s supporters write in their futile and illogical attempt to “explain out”
the Obama and Wright partnership the might be
at the same level of Obama’s excuses.
Just saw on the web that Sen. Bob Casey is supporting Obama; not much detail.
Ha, Wright is going to live in a gated community? Who is he afraid of? Who will be kept out? What a hypocrite, compare him to Mother Teresa.
Watch one of those Wright clips one time. Watch the part where he backs off and starts wiping his upper lip and everybody’s jumping up and down like they’re ready to go to war. Think of what would happen to a whitey who walked by right then. And realise: Wright is out of his mind. Worse: he’s a contagious disease.
geez… talk about race baiting…
Yes.
And all that racist hate and political hackery is done as a “man of God,” who gets to do all that TAX FREE.
His new mansion won’t pay property taxes, either, because he sold the lots to the “church.”
You and I will pay extra because Rev Wright…..a “man of God” gets an exemption.
What a frikkin fraud he is.
He’s a race hustler, just like Obama.
“Sorry, no sale. If you really care so much about the SCOTUS appointments, you’ll back Hillary. It’s the Obamabots who are handing the country over to McCain with your idiot “see no evil, hear no evil” hero worship.”
Blackmail? Now wait a minute. You just said if I care about the SCOTUS picks I should support Hillary. I already said I’d vote for whatever Democratic candidate gets the nomination. Aren’t you the one who just threatened to withold support if YOUR candidate didn’t get the nomination?
I’m not interested in poking you in the eye or demonizing you or Clinton and causing a fight. I assume you honestly believe Hillary is the best candidate. OK, that’s your choice. But aren’t I allowed to make my own decision? The “idiot see no evil, hear no evil hero worship” comment is uncalled for. I am not going into this with glazed eyes or supporting Obama because I worship him as a hero. I honestly think he’d make a better candidate. That is my choice. You shouldn’t call me an idiot because of that.
Here’s the truth. If McCain gets the presidency he WILL appoint more rightwing judges and they will set us back even farther than we are now. Civil rights and human rights will no longer be protected in this country. That will happen. If we get another Scalia then the Constitution will be worthless. It’s already been trashed completely by Bush and the Republicans. Do we really want four more years of the downward spiral with McCain as president?
Whoever gets the Democratic nomination will get my support.
artman11:
Remember Bork?
Congress is the one that confirms. It is not “just up to the President”. Back when Dems. had some spine, (and majority) they did their job; and that why Bork
is not sitting up there.
Ed Schultz today, continuing to harp on Hillary’s “Bosnia Gaffe”- “Hey, Hillary needs her beauty sleep, we all need our beauty sleep!” hahaha
Once again, “focus on the real enemy!”, “Stop tearing eachother apart!” ONLY applies to Hillary and her supporters. Obamabots? Forget McCain. Focus on mauling Hillary. All. The. Time.
Anyone who listens to Schultz or Air Obama radio knows that they RARELY mention McCain on any of those shows. It’s all “Obama is Awesome, Hillary Sucks,” All The Time.
The hypocricy is deafening.
John: don’t listen to him. Ignore him. He’s a speck in life’s radar
Ever read Larry’s send-up of Ed Schulz? It’s priceless.
No but point the way.
I was in the habit of listening to the man for over some period of time…Now I play a game turning on the radio and see if he is not bashing Hillary. over the last 2 months I have not been able to keep the radio on for more than 5 seconds before I lose the game. LOL
Some of my peers said “that guy sounds like Rush” Go figure.
Hmmm ,1.6 million in hush money?
We know how the spin will work this, just thought it would be nice to remind people that even anomalies are in play re:Wright.
By placing the ownership of this huge mansion in a gated community in the hands of his church, Rev. Wright gets away with paying NO PROPERTY TAXES.
He’s a hustler. And a hypocrite.
At least we know where the tithes went.
Racism and hatred pay very well.
Funny thing is, if the U.S. was as racist as Wright says he wouldn’t be retiring to live life of a white rich man, he’d have his face kicked in.
He purchases the property from a guy that owns a resturant chain,
http://www.yelp.com/biz/rosellis-ristorante-pizzeria-and-lounge-chicago
Who also is in to real estate selling two lots to the Rev who sells it to the church. (with a 10 million line of credit) and put the proceeds into a trust for him and his wife. It does not say it was a secureed loan of 1.6 or not.
Does any of this sound familar? I wish I had access to linkedin our something similar to cross reference Rezko, Kenneth Lewis Sr, Rev Wright
Maybe Jeremiah Wright plans to run a soup kitchen for the homeless and give homeless in IL a shelter during their harsh winter ?
The Times UK article is pretty damaging ….
Glad you could get to the Times UK story. When I tried to get back to it to quote it, I got a message that their site was too busy. I wonder why :):)
Here’s the link: “Rev Jeremiah Wright lands Barack Obama in trouble again.”
“Congress is the one that confirms. It is not “just up to the President”. Back when Dems. had some spine, (and majority) they did their job; and that why Bork
is not sitting up there.”
Who nominates the candidates? And you are right about congressional spines. lol.
I will not support a president who will nominate ANY rightwingers. That would truly be a shame. I want our country to regain it’s coinscience and McCain has proven to me he will roll over for his party’s interests no matter what his personal feelings are.

Close your eyes and picture the GOP Senate. Keep that image firmly in your mind and please answer my question above:
Do we have an idea of who would a Obama might nominate? Because given his entourage, his admiration for Reagan and the Reps. as teh party of the ideas in the last 10-12 years and tendency to be a “facilitator” is not very encouraging at all.
Trivia: Who did Obama choose as (1) his official mentor when he first arrived into the US Senate and (2) his “mentor” in foreign affairs?
Oh, so now Obama’s a GOP sleeper, not a Muslim one?
You don know the Trivia, do you Kevin…..? Mmmm
There is nothing wrong with a “nice house”.
What strikes me as hilarious is that Obama repeats everything that Hillary says even about leaving his own church.
Hillary says I would leave that church.
Obama says “me too”.
Has this man ever had an original thought?
I wondered as Wright went on another tear against “rich people” what kind of digs and perks he was enjoying for himself, and then I thought of Obama (who is very rich), and then I realized… Wright makes it clear that it’s “rich WHITE people” that are the problem. So I guess he’s exempt. I’ve never ever understood how people can be a part of any church or religion in which the hierarchy becomes rich. Jesus did not drive a Hummer.
Someone found a quote from Obama, most likely in one of his books, regarding his “sitting in the pew while Wright talked of Hiroshima”, which of course, would mean that he was there for the at least on of Wright’s infamous rants against America.
Why in the world the Democratic elite and the Obama supporters would want to put a candidate up against McCain, who can so quickly be dispatched with minimum effort, is beyond me. But then again, they’ve done this repeatedly. Perhaps instead of cans we should be sending self-help books to the DNC. Maybe they have poor self esteem and don’t feel worthy of winning.
They’ve destroyed the party’s chances just because they hate the Clintons.
Cut off their nose to spite their face.
Hoist on their own arrogant petards.
They don’t care about the party.
They care about POWER. And an empty suit like Obama with a desperate need for “fatherly approval” will be easy to control.
Now they’ve ruined our party’s possibilities in November, in a year we could won with a huge mandate.
This is wimps like Daschle, Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Dean.
It’s disgusting what they’ve done to our party.
I don’t think the size of Wright’s house is a big deal.
That’s a matter between his church and him. They have every right to reward him, if they like him.
How does it reflect on Obama? I don’t see it.
Given the noise around the Obama/Rezko/Ayers corruption, one wonders where he got the money.
The financial shenanigans smell, again, like everything else connected to Obama.
Certainly there is precedence for church corruption.
hey all - did you see this?
Obama Not Interested In “Wallowing” In Race
ABC World News interviewed Barack Obama, who said, “I am not interested in having, in wallowing in a, lengthy conversation about race. What I was trying to do in the speech was point out that we often use racial divisions, or politicians also often use racial divisions, as a way of ignoring the common problems like terrorism, or the foreclosure crisis. And so, my argument is not that we should focus obsessively on race. My argument is, we should acknowledge the dangers of racial division. Precisely in order to pivot and focus on those problems that we all have as common Americans.”
Seriously, what the hell is he talking about? Does he even know that 73% of all the sub-prime mortgages were deliberately sold to higher-income AA’s and Latinos? (Greg Palast did a story on this on 3/15/08)Doesn’t he realize that racism is a big factor in Americans’ fear of terrorism? (EEEEK! Scary brown people!)
If he really wants to try and heal racism, he has to realize that a lot of it is institutionalized in America. And as President, he would have to help create programs that would mitigate racism in America.
You know, like Bill Clinton did.
Who Barack Obama’s campaign cheerfully smeared…as a racist.
Please, let me take some amnesia pills before November so if Obama is the nominee, I can vote for him…:-p
“If he really wants to try and heal racism, he has to realize that a lot of it is institutionalized in America. And as President, he would have to help create programs that would mitigate racism in America.”
“You know, like Bill Clinton did.”
Which programs were those?
Directly, off the top of my head, after he took office it was much easier to obtain an 8A, minority status as a subcontractor, than before.
This legitimately enabled minorities to compete for federal contracts, hands down, giving a more solid footing in bigger business, equal opportunity.
Bush made the process more difficult.
(A program, btw, Rezko and Muhammad exploited, to steal money from the government, and minorities).
Also, any taxpayer monies Clinton obtained when he raised taxes went toward more police protection, immediately affecting the minority communities.
How were other social programs affected, say, health care costs, insurance, access to educational funds?
Think, really, Will, you look stupid.
Were you just a kid, or is it that you can’t remember?
I mean, /snark, NSA got your brain?
You should all read this; Ms Rubin GETS IT!

They claim the exact same about Clinton supporters. Even cutting off the nose to spite the face. I’ve listened to both sides and neither are innocent.
Listen folks, a lot of people do not like Clinton. A lot of people do not like Obama. I suggest once the dust clears, no matter which Democrat gets the nomination, we should still vote Democrat. As long as McCain does NOT become president. Our country cannot take 4 more years under a Republican president.
Seriously, if we care for the country and the Constitution we cannot let another Republican become president. We must unite and reverse what Bush inc has done to our country.
Basically, I agree with you. But unfortunately, it won’t be up to me, nor most Democrats, who will probably bite the bullet in November and vote for Obama if it’s him versus McCain. As angry as I am now, it’s a long time till November.
My state will go Democratic - it always does. What is in question are the “swing states,” the Independents and the Republicans. I am afraid that Obama has just lost all of those constituencies in the general because of the Reverend Wright.
I don’t see how Obama can beat McCain now. And we can’t survive him as President. “More wars, my friends,” indeed.
amen to that
Utter nonsense.
Obama cannot win in the GE because of Wright, Meeks and that spoiled, anti-American bitch of a wife. All of them make Obama look like a bigot and anti-American to independents and moderate GOPers. People he and any Democrat needs to win the Presidency.
Talk radio and conservative blogs are already tearing Obama a new asshole and making liberals look like anti-American kooks.
He’s Kerry with a radioactive boat anchor.
He’s going nowhere.
I can. But only if Democrats jump ship and hand the election to McBush.
I think you exaggerate juuuust a bit. We most certainly will NOT survive McCain. Republicans will destroy what is left of our country if we do not take it back.
Now THAT is McCain in a nutshell.
I used to know a Jesuit who observed about the surfeit of quality foods in the buffet line, “Nothing’s too good for God’s poor.” He also used to wryly observe, “Filet mingon? . . . Again?”
Oh Geez….
They’ve already sent out the troops to starting preaching the Party Line and Democratic unity.
TALK TO THE HAND!!!!!
If you’re talking about me I am most certainly NOT the “troops”. I’m not even a registered Democrat. I consider myself an Independent. But I’ll NEVER, EVER vote for a Republican no matter what happens.
I will back the Democrat, period. Clinton or Obama.
To do otherwise would be to continue insane policies like torture, corruption, endless war, the culture war, catastrophic fiscal policies benefiting corporations and everything else that comes with radical Republicans and their constituents. That is much more important to me than assuring my favorite candidate gets the nomination.
With all due respect, to vote for a Republican for president is suicide.
What we’ll end up with is Rove’s permanent majority from the bench. Another nightmare like Scalia and our country is screwed. We all know Republicans don’t care about anything but absolute power. One or two Supreme Court picks and our country will never be the same for the rest of our lives, not to mention our kids’. Our country cannot afford that.
So yes, I am calling for unity once the candidate is chosen, but not because of orders from on high from the party leaders.
