The “Wrong Nigga to Fuck Wit” Dilemma for Barack
By Larry Johnson on March 29, 2008 at 8:51 PM in Current Affairs
I like Ice T on Law and Order. He’s a good actor (and white moron I am, confused him with Ice Cube). He’s the black guy white folks generally feel comfortable with. But Ice Cube is a different matter. His lyrics from a few years past are, in the vernacular, off the hook, but strangely relevant to the debate surrounding Barack’s relationship with Jeremiah Wright. His song, Wrong Nigga to Fuck Wit, contains these lyrics:
It ain’t no pop cause that sucks
And you can new jack swing on my nuts
Down wit the niggaz that I bail out
I’m platinum bitch and I didn’t have to sell out
Fuck you ice cube, that’s what the people say
Fuck amerikkka, still with the triple k
Cause you know when my nine goes pop
It’ll bust your head like a watermelon dropped from 12
stories up
Now let’s see who’ll drop
Punk motherfuckers tryin to ban hip-hop
Fuck r&b and the runnin man
I’m the one that stand, with the gun in hand
Make sure before you buck wit duck quick
Punk, cause I’m the wrong nigga to fuck wit
Cube’s album cover featured a dead Uncle Sam covered in a U.S. flag. So Barack’s pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, was not the first one to voice the sentiment–Goddamn America.
Wright and Ice Cube share much in common. Both preach a message that black Americans are victims of white prejudice. They diverge on the issue of violence. Ice Cube raps that one earn’s respect by popping caps in someone’s ass. Wright does not call for violence, but he does make it quite clear that whites cause slavery, AIDs, war and poverty.
Whites aren’t the only ones who don’t fare well in these songs. The “bitches and hos” don’t do too good either. Even the so-called Reverend Wright gave Hillary the bitch treatment. There is no denying that rap and hip hop have enjoyed commercial success. But success does not mean it is widely accepted. It ain’t mainstream. And that’s the problem for Barack.
This music and talk scares most people, white and black. And let’s face it. Barack Obama has been trying portray himself as an authentic black man, when he has had a privileged lifestyle. Jeremiah Wright wanted folks to believe that Barack was raised by a single-parent mom. He just forgot to tell the congregation that Barack’s Moms was white as were his grandparents. And that he actually lived with an Indonesian step-dad. And he had a privileged upbringing. Private schools and elite colleges. So, in his quest to validate his own blackness, Barack aligned himself with individuals like Wright and his new pastor, Otis Moss, who preach a form of black separation.
I don’t know if you’ve seen the rapper Eminem’s movie, 8 Mile. I thought it was a great movie. Barack reminds me of the wannbe rapper in the movie Papa Doc aka Clarence. Eminem, who had choked during an earlier verbal “battle” has a rematch with his nemesis, Papa Doc. A rapper battle off is like a solo version of “battle of the bands” but has more foul language and insults. Now, watch Eminem dismantle Papa Doc. Reminds me of what Hillary is doing to Barack.

But I know something about you,
you went to Cranbrook, that’s a private school!
What’s the matter dog, you embarrassed?
This guy’s a gangster? His real name is Clarence!
And Clarence lives at home with both parents,
And Clarence’s parents have a real good marriage…
this guy don’t wanna battle, he’s shook,
‘Cos their ain’t no such thing as “Half way crooks”…
He’s scared to death, he’s scared to look in his fucking year book,
Fuck Cranbrook…
Barack’s previous efforts to hang with the equivalent of ideological and financial gangstas (Wright, Ayers, and Rezko) is now biting him in the ass. You cannot buddy up with folks who say Fuck America and Goddamn America and “my only regret is I didn’t plant more bombs” and hope to lead a nation that is predominantly white and latino. That dog don’t hunt.

Hm… I think this post misses the mark. Wright and Ice Cube?? The comparison seems strained.
Jeralyn has a link up to a New York Magazine article on the race. It gives details about the conversations between Edwards and Hillary, Edwards and Obama.
Obama whiffed when he met Edwards, which is why he didn’t get the endorsement. He came across as an arrogant dumbshit, arguing with Elizabeth that his health care plan really was universal.

Larry is referencing Ice Cube and “wrong nigga to fuck wit” song, because Obama’s new pastor — Moss– used it recently in sermon defending Wright/Church.
Larry:
Ice T is on Law and Order, not Ice Cube
My bad.
not a problem…..Ice T wrote the infamous song “Cop Killer”.
Glad you’re there to help straighten me out.
Thanks
And you want to be my Latex salesman.
And of course you realize that Ice Cube also is an actor and star of several G-Rated family films which have done very well. I am afraid you are terribly terribly off here Larry. Ice Cube, Ice T, Obama, and Wright are all very mainstream. Your writing actually shows you to be quite out of the mainstream and terribly ignorant of popular culture to boot.
And btw your comment engine sucks beans.
Thanks Larry..Interesting when YOu pull back the Curtain for..”Typical White People”..Who Cant understand the Lyrics..But Just hear the Beat of the 60,000 Amps in the car at the Curb..
Hmmm..I dont see any stretch between ICE CUBE..and Lyrics Like “FUCK AMERIKKKA..STILL WITH THE TRIPLE KKK.,.” and What Pastor Wright Screamed..
Wonder where ICE CUBE gets His ideas From…???
Rumsfeld?
Simon I think he took rapping lessons from John Ashcroft.
Rumsfeld Isn’t America..
AMERICA is the place where Americans live..and most Americans are not like Rumsfeld or the KKK ..
The only thing that needs to be Slapped down are the Individuals or groups out there that Oppress and Exploite ..from any Race..NAME THEM..EXPOSE THEM..DAMN THEM..
But Don’t Damn the Men..Women and Children of the United States..
I am NOT Responsible for other peoples Sins..I am Accountable only for My Own Sins..
I say..God Damn the PEOPLE Who are TEARING AMERICA DOWN..The Small group of greedy..Ego Driven people fropm ALL Races..
The Bricks..The Garbage.. are Falling on People of ALL COLOR..All ages..The POPLE of the United States of America..
I Say..its time to Identify the Brick Throwers..Blame THEM..and start Picking Up the Bricks and rebuilding AMERICA..Like Responsible Adults and Role Models..
at least you admit to being responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people.

He’s Cheney and Bush’s America.
And watching the arguements on this thread, it’s apparent the trolls have no F’ING clue what they’re speaking of, none at all.
Pretty funny.
Ah, the limits of astroturf…
We grafted our oral tradition to the oppressor’s tongue to kick the English off the island. Just the same……
Milo to Hallenbeck in The Last Boy Scout
But just once, I would like to hear you scream in pain…
Hallenbeck to Milo
“Play some rap music.”
“I’m Not Saying She’s Fat..But Her High School Picture was an Aerial Photograph..”
Hallenbeck..The Last Boy Scout..
“
yeah, I’ve been listening to the “too fat polka” by Frankie Yanovic, too. I can’t find the polish lyrics, though.
TOO FAT POLKA (I DON’T WANT HER, YOU CAN HAVE HER, SHE’S TOO FAT FOR ME)
(Ross MacLean / Arthur Richardson)
Arthur Godfrey - 1947
Andrews Sisters - 1947
Frankie Yankovic & His Yanks - 1968
Mighty Tubadours - 1991
Also recorded by: Bobby Vinton; James Last Orch;
Stan Wolowic & The Polka Chips; Whoopee John;
Harry Zimmerman Big Band; Drew Carey.
Here’s a silly ditty,
You can sing it right away
Now, here is what you say
So sing it while you may
Here’s a silly jingle,
You can sing it night or noon
Here’s the words, that’s all you need
‘Cause I just sang the tune:
Oh, I don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
I don’t want her, you can have her,
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat
She’s too fat
She’s too fat for me
I get dizzy
I get numbo
When I’m dancing
With my Jum-Jum-Jumbo
I don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
I don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat
She’s too fat
She’s too fat for me
Can she prance up a hill?
No, no, no, no, no
Can she dance a quadrille?
No, no, no, no, no
Does she fit in your coupe?
By herself she’s a group
Could she possibly
Sit upon your knee?
No, no, no
We don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
And she’s too fat for me
But she’s just right for me
We don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
Yeah, she’s too fat,
Much too fat
But she’s just right for me
She’s so charming
And she’s so winning
But it’s alarming
When she goes in swimming
We don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
But she’s just right for me
So I sure want her, you can’t have her
She’s just right for me
But she’s too fat!
She’s not too fat!
She’s just right for me!
She’s a twosome,
She’s a foursome
If she’d lose some
I would like her more some
I don’t want her, you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat for me
I don’t want her you can have her
She’s too fat for me
She’s too fat
Much too fat
She’s too fat for me
Hey!

Americs’s Polka King…
The 8 Mile movie of M&M’s was an insight. And why I say ‘313′ when talking about the south side of Chicago. When first learning of the residents being left with out heat and water, then following the whole corrupt arc that is Obama , scenes from that movie play out repeatedly in my mind.
I am waiting for the next youtube on this.
Damn Larry
let us know how you REALLY feel. LOL. And thanks. I’ve really had it with this whole Obama dream. It’s becoming a nightmare.
Hmmm. Most of the early gangsta rappers were protesting police brutality by the LAPD. They were also calling attention to the dire situation that many African-Americans were in at the time. Remember this was at the tail end of the Reagan-Bush I era when race relations were extremely tense. (Remember Rodney King?)
Wright is an older man today and Ice Cube was pretty young when he was a rapper. Did Ice Cube ever blame 9/11 on the US? Today, Ice Cube is in movies like “Are we there yet?” and “Barbershop”. I think there is something to say about maturing and viewing the world differently as one grows up.
“I think there is something to say about maturing and viewing the world differently as one grows up.”
Perhaps that one tends to become a little less extreme in one’s point of view? Say, maybe a little more level-headed and moderate? Less likely to call for ‘riots in the streets’? Less likely to fall for the next big media sensation?
Yup. There’s that.
Not to say that rising up against injustice is a waste of time; quite the opposite. In our crazy, mixed up consumer driven society, it seems the only way to get noticed is to take the issue, slap some art on it, brand it and sell it. I bear rap no ill will. What behavior it drives can be troubling. But my parents said that about the Rolling Stones. (In fairness, the Stones never suggested I go out and target law enforcement.)
The conundrum isn’t with rap itself. It’s what happens to the finished product when marketing gets hold of it. When the image makers step in, and glamorize the violence and sexism.
Lookkee there. We can blame TV. Again.
I think the analogy works perfectly. Barry is a wanna be–he’s a poser on all fronts. He’s a poser presidential candidate working a manufactured black guy image. When it works for his purposes, he rolls out the ebonics and imitates Malcolm X.
Barry is a privileged guy, raised in a privileged home, went to private schools and then went looking for black culture. He has more melanin in his skin than most white people, but there are plenty of Semitic, East Asian and other ethnicities with at least as much if not more. But it’s that melanin (derived from his Harvard-educated Kenyan father) that has all the white liberals wetting themselves in excitement over him.
And people actually believe in and trust the friggin charlatan. It maddening.
The NYTimes also found no evidence that he did any serious drugs at all. He was always a good student and very disciplined. He did not even drink excessively. He also wrote in his book about how he and his best friend in high school stayed up late talking about race. His friend, which is African-American/Japanese says that was bunk. Race was never a big issue, although Obama had a problem being away from his parents. According to my friend who grew up in Hawaii and went to a private Catholic high school Obama went to the best, most expensive school in the state. He is a privileged guy whose wife wears Jimmy Choo shoes. Both of them pretend to be just like the typical African American for political purposes. They are phonies.
Obama tagged along with kids who didn’t like him in Indonesia and one of them reports Obama got thrown in a swamp — and the kids who did it didn’t know whehter Obama could swim or not. He says they only did it to Obama.
Obama also according to his own book got hit on the head by a rock in a fight with an age mate.
When his Mom went back to Indonesia he was a young teen and decided not to go back because he would be the ‘new guy.’
So the possibility exists that he was badly bullied in Indonesia.
This is from the Chicago Tribune article: The not-so-simple story of Barack Obama’s youth.
The video is the real gem in this post. The Ice Cube/T stuff is okay intro (I initially thought you might have been BWD), but the video as analogy is hilarious. I can’t decide if I’d love or hate the Democratic convention being all 8 Mile this year. Certainly Hillary-as-Eminem is perfect. He really can’t say anything about her that we don’t already know. And Obama did go to Punahou, which is even funnier than Cranbook.
Funnier than Cranbook, but harder to rhyme.
“Reminds me of what Hillary is doing to Barack.”
Lets just hope she gets it done!
The sound bite of the Reverend’s Wright’s sermon is accurate if you consider the posted comments. Is imagining one America too far for any of us to fathom? We have these inner feelings that we ascribe on blogs, et cetera, however our public personnas are vastly different. We then attack public personalities who may or may not feel the same way we truly do; however we aren’t adult enough to public state our positions or we aren’t able to withstand the backlash. It’s more commonly known as cowardice.
Oh spare us the sanctimonious piety please. Somewhere a unicorn is crying; go bring it a fricking hankie.
Or buy the world a Coke. Make mine diet please.
The Unicorn Tapestries

Down thread I made a similar analogy about Obama playing at being the black man — like the wannabe Indian acting like he grew up on the Rez. And then I read this by Larry Johnson:
Yeah, Obama’s such an oreo, am I right? That’s why all my TRUE brothas is voting straight HILLS.
And what?????
You like Ice T? You know he was a pimp, right? (For those not properly clued in, pimps are essentially sexual slave-drivers.)
Eminem is a misogynist fartwit too.
I’d forgo the race-baiting and any use of any variation of the N word, btw. I say this as a adamant Hillary supporter. As a life-long champion of civil rights and racial equality, I think our candidate would strongly disapprove of that. One difference between HRC and OB is I’ve never heard HRC lob any racist slurs to discredit her opponent. I can’t say the same for OB on the subject of sexism.
And I do think Wright was correct on the subject of race. He was dead wrong that Hillary “fits the profile” and doesn’t know what it is to have to work twice as hard to be passed over for a (white male) C student however.
Flame me if you must.
wiggles, I honor your frankness.
I think the point made after the strong headline is clear….That Wright wasn’t the first to make this connection to “Amerikkka”. I listen to lots of music that reflects this view, some constructive and some cathartic, some ignorant, and some visionary. My favorites over the years have been Public Enemy, Dead Prez, and Gil-Scott Heron. I continue to support this expression as a potent voice of the a part of the black experience.
But I think the point Larry J is making, correct me if I’m wrong, is that:
1. It isn’t mainstream America, and that it doesn’t play the same to America the way it plays to me, a counter culture punkass from HTown. Even here I don’t fit in, but am comfortable with that. My experience isn’t borrowed from lyrics but lyrics reflect my past and present.
2. it isn’t the experience Barack Obama grew up with no matter how hard he is trying to wrap himself up in this message by alignment. He did not speak the words of Wright, but he enjoys the emotions that Wright’s words have brought up out of the community of resentment and anger.
3. His supporters are using strong arm tactics to make sure he is the victor and this will only work so far before it backfires. Eventually he’ll be out of the Democratic Race and if he becomes the nominee he’ll face a party that could care less how black he is or isn’t. They have a much stronger reputation for not stopping when black feelings get hurt, ask New Orleans, ask Haiti, ask LA Chief Daryl Gates. Its one thing to bank on the white guilt of the weakling Democrats who cower under the stigma of racism, but the Republicans aren’t exactly known for their racial tolerance as a whole.
And that the clip with Eminem demonstrates two things clearly:
1. “here tell these people something they don’t know about me”
This has essentially been my argument about Hillary Clinton’s ‘weaknesses’ or compromises. She has some issues that I contend with, and they aren’t hidden. This is disarming when you can walk up to someone and tell them your weaknesses before they rifle through them.
2. He points out this man in front of him is privleged. He can’t pretend to be some bloated ego with a sobstory of growing up hard when he didn’t. This is the story of Barry Obama.
3. I grew up in a trailer park for a while and spent more time raised by one woman than 2 parents, ffirst my mom, then her mom. We still had our dignity. I could not afford college, we couldn’t afford private school, my parents couldn’t travel to be multi-cultural. I learned what I know from being curious, like a sponge, and deciding long ago to be who I am. Barry Obama thinks he suffered and faced oppression, but his record doesn’t reflect it at all. He’s been the charmed one, the one who got Harvard, and all that. Does he think he’s smarter than me, or those who never got past my caste level? yes he does. Because he talks about how much he faced and how hard it was. BULLSHIT!
I know kids who have attained nothing more than minimum wage jobs in my town who have more dignity and humility than this necktie jackass.
He is a fraud, a fake, a venomous snake, and you just need to look at the fruits of his labors. If you say, “but he’s about the end of politics of destruction”, then just look how Hon. Sheila Jackson-Lee was treated in her own neighborhood today, like she was Clinton’s house girl. She was disrespected in a way that is unacceptable, and I’m not at all ashamed to call it that. God bless her work for our constituents in the 18th.
The threats of violence
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8762.html
Threats have been made against Rep. Diane E. Watson, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, Rep. David Scott, and
Cleaver said it best: ““If white people were being harassed and threatened because they were not supporting a white candidate, we’d see headlines,” he said.”
Cleaver says he doesn’t believe Obama has issued any edict to this nature, and believes its just from his supporters going a bit far, but…what about when Obama said:
“”would have to think long and hard about how they approach the nomination when the people they claim to represent have said, ‘Obama’s our guy.’ ”
Black Superdelegates Threatened, Pressured
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/02/16/black-superdelegates-threatened-pressured/
This article displays well what has been happening all along here and it will continue.
And that fucker Obama has the audacity to say Clinton is playing the race card!?
That might work on someone who is insecure about race, but I certainly am not insecure about it and I can spot a race-baiter from 50 paces.
wiggles, thanks for your view, I hope you are treated with consideration for sharing your convictions. I appreciate them.
“A rat done bit my Sister Nell, and whitey’s on tha moon, her hands and arms began to swell, and whitey’s on tha moon.”
Yeah, who does that uppity nigger think he is, anyway? You’d think he was black or something.
Balzeechris:
Yeah, what does your idiotic comment has to do with anything, anyway?
You are wasting time and space, say something really meaning from “your” experiences, what “you”
really know.
Well it certainly is its own DIALECT I’ll say! Did anyone ever teach these gutter mouths to conjugate verbs? I think we need the granny brigade to come and wash their pieholes out with LYSOL. Yeah I really want anything resembling this mentality close to the White House.
love ya hope, you speak your mind.
I disagree with you here though, simply because the vocalizations of the youth, the frustrated, and the oppressed should be taken in their own constructs. oh, I don’t disagree that I wouldn’t want this voice running the White House, but certainly to keep it in check.
I grew up listening to PFunk sing about Chocolate City and the new face for the White House. But a netaphor is a metaphor, and reality is reality.
Chris
Yes I can see what you mean about the oppressed youth. Maybe I’m too far removed because of the generation(s) gap - too provincial perhaps.
Then on the other hand, these gangsta kids didn’t receive a daily beating from the Penguin Posse every time they diagrammed a sentence incorrectly.
The Penguin Posse…that’s great.
Well its a generational thing maybe. My son is about to be 15, and he thinks he listens to good rap, but doesn’t know who Grandmaster Flash, NWA, even Ghetto Boyz are. I used to sell music to Scarface himself, and I know who the legends are and who I consider masters of poetry and then just opportunists who have no real message. My son says he love the beats and as he’s grown up he knows what is going on in some of the music.
Another example is in his interest to play Grand Theft Auto. One of them, “Vice City” there is a woman with a barely covering bikini. I asked, “do you want your mom represented that way?”…”of course not”…”then why her? why does this woman get to be portrayed that way? is it cool?”…”no, I guess not”
Now, I know he didn’t really stop being interested but he got my point about respect and I can tell because of how the last two years have been since that moment. More and more as he goes thru his identity issue, he finds being himself is the best path. I’ve been that way my whole life and it worked out fine.
Additionally I didn’t work a sector that was isolated from this part of our society. I in fact worked in stores around here that put me right smack in the middle of these various communities and I have to tell you, God blessed me with that experience and I’ll be thankful for it my whole life.
When my son started telling me he wanted a ‘diamond grill’ and he wanted ‘rims and stuff’ I wanted to know what he was looking at in this. Because I didn’t grow up with a lot of criticism for my rather esoteric interests it wasn’t hard to be open to him, but I had to ask, “What is it you like here”
And it was about fitting in…the same old time weathered tradition of fitting in.
Last, about diagrammed sentences…
I had a chat with a good friend one day about language. We are both real picky about language, but I noticed how he was in conflict with people over demanding they speak proper English and they would resist him as a cranky white guy. Then I remembered my Scottish roots and the fact that my bohemian family changed their name to be a little less Czechy sounding. This compounded with having left school at a young age, and my own insecurities about language showed me that Proper English can be a weapon against people.
It showed me something about how I use my intelligence as a weapon against people who might not be as fast on the draw, or well thought out, or all that knowledgeable and I didn’t want to do this. I still have a problem with this because I run into people who seem very ill-informed, or other states, that excite my ego too much and divide us again.
Because my friend truly wanted to communicate I told him be less domineering of the language, and be more a teacher and guide than a dictator instructor. Find out if you can enjoy where they are in language instead of where you are. This worked for him and the people he was trying to relate to.
I want to relate to everyone ultimately, so life give me that every day.
Five years ago I would have read this, and thought, oh wow, violent.
Now I look at it, and think this idiot knows nothing, nothing, just a small town braggart, with zero knowledge.
Drop a head with a nine?
You should see what they can do to you, Ice, and they dont need a nine.
Silly little stupid clueless pretentious boys.
Hip hop does suck, this type anyway.
And I was of the mind NWA had an argument, due to the police abuse they endured.
No poet here, no poet at all.
Ice Cube doesn’t even make it to the level of bathroom scribbler: ‘Here I sit, broken hearted…’
yeah yeah yeah
Gangsta rap was dealing with a reality few in the media would address at the time.
Everyone saw the large violence and crime, few addressed many other issues underlying this if ever it would be dealt with effectively. Lack of racial, ethnic, and gender balance in the police force could erode the ability to have the confidence of certain communities that calls were made in.
Women helping answer domestic calls so the female involved has someone to confide some level with if need be, etc.
After a while the gangsta stuff became a parody of itself. In addition, it’s basically no different than Scarface or Godfather movies, and nobody is calling Scorcese or DiPalma out.
People in the know have seen metro PD clean out its ranks of whistle blowers the old school way. Cop on cop crime is unforgivable IMO but it happens on a regular basis in major cities. It will never be corrected, hard to drive investigations when the gatekeepers are expected to police themselves. Just take your 2 week’s pay and hit the same bars and gentleman’s clubs you police for trolls and DUIs. Most of the ‘West Coast’ gangs have assimilated the juvenille, probate, even prison guard capacities to an extent in big cities also.
The number one item tied that pairs crime is poverty. Gangsta rap has plenty of white fans in the stretches of poorer rural America as well. Many Red States lead the way in negative draws for service and subsidy assistance. It’s socioeconomic.
The real reason Larry is an Eminem fan is that he called GWB out before anyone else really would, and the entertainment industry blackballed him for it.
As for some of the language used in rap, I’m not too comfortable with it, but in some ways it has allowed people to reshape some of the words used negatively.
It’s still not something I’m a fan of hearing.
Mr. Murder…sounds like you have “BEEN There..DONE That..”
I agree with your Points..basically Amrica like every where else..has Many Cultures..and Sub cultures..deppending on what or Who You identify with or want to Associate yourself with..
The “Gangsta” Groups are One of them..Coming out of the “HOODS” Black..White..Latino..Asian..Indian they all have thier ..SIGNS…SONGS ..SIGNATURES ..STYLES..
SHIT.. Preferred Drugs (To Deal * Use)
Rackets..Gun Runners..
They all have excuses for What They do and Why they do it..There is alot of Anger..hate..distrust.violence..Crime.All Over the USA..Big Citys Have the BIG Problems..
The Prisons are full of them..So Are the Streets..
They will Listen to The Reverend Wrights..or Old Hitler Tapes..or Che..or Marxists..or anyone else they can Identify with who has the Same Anger they Do..
Another Big Social Problem and Law Enforcement Problem that the nation should be solving..That Hillary needs to understand better..and that Obama has to Stand Up to..If He thinks he’s any Kind of Leader..
We ARE a Nation..DIVIDED..
There is a Thin Line Between “US & THEM”
..
Patrick Henry
My younger son, a disenfranchised being, has his own anger problems which are reflected in his choice of particularly, schizophrenic music. I have no idea how to categorize it other than to say it is putridly frightening. It sounds as if a choir of screeching guitars are violently attacking one another while a voice raging from the bowels of hell glosses over the entire noise with an atrocious ugliness.
Thankfully I am so happy that he never listened to that impish, urchin from Iceland (I can’t for the life of me remember her name)who adorns her dresses in dead swans? Anyone remember her name?
Bjork.
Oh yeah! Bazurk!! Okay I’ve lived in Amsterdam, New York, L.A. S.F. and in all those places, I’ve never seen anyone like her! YUCK! Her movie made me want to kill myself from the NOISE! She’s the weirdest alien around. Shes a multipersonality alien colored in freakish
It wasn’t a DEAD swan it was a swan puppet of sorts.
Dude, don’t be down on Van Halen.
“They will Listen to The Reverend Wrights..or Old Hitler Tapes..or Che..or Marxists..or anyone else they can Identify with who has the Same Anger they Do..”
That’s one of the more patently false and disingenuous… let alone down right silly statements I’ve heard in sometime.
So… these self same gang bangers, etc. frequent Rev. Wrights church? Go to the library to read up on Che and the Marxists??
LOL
actually had a flag flying in his campaign office in Texas…Obama is Muslim sympathizer.Wonder if he even has a security clearance?
A Che flag that is
LARRY — look at the comment above. Jesus, dude. When you lie down with dogs, get up with fleas. Get yourself to a Buddhist retreat, quick. You need to do some serious soul searching. Do you really want to be associated with the Lou Dobbs/’I can say ‘nigger’ with impunity because *they* say it’ crowd like this example? Would that make you proud?
You should pull this entire blog post down and apologize.
All I could wonder was when Che Guevara became a Muslim. Hell, only 20 years ago he was a Communist! I’m sure if he was prominent in the 1940’s, he would have been German.
Sorry, gotta Fact Check you there…Obama’s campaign did not have a Che Guevara flag in their office down HERE (in my town, and I know the office in question). Even FoxNews, who broke the story, retracted it. The photo was taken at another office where a meeting of Obama supporters happened, and it is an office that used by many different groups centered around “people of color” discussions and anti-war, peace activist, bla blah stuff.
Don’t spread false information. And “Muslim sympathizer”….what is that the new Communist? you should evaluate your thoughts a minute before continuing.
Kevin..Mr. Gang Banger)
The Inflammatory Things Taught by Pastor Wright..(Black Power..Blame whitey and the Jews) ..God damn the USKKK of A.. is the Sme as The nazi ideology..Purge anyone You don’t like..The Communists Ideology (Purge anyone You don’t like) The revolutionarys like Che and Fidel..or Chavez..Are All Thrown Out there with Hatred for Someone.(Purge or kill anyone you don’t like..) and Clentched or Open Fist Salutes..All of them Create Mob Frenzys..Irrational Passion..and thinking..HATRED..

Sorry kevin..you are so Lame..You must be on Social Security disability..
I doubt if your Mental Problems come from having an IED go off near you..
When You stuck up for Gang Bangers..Kevin..
YOU showed your Colors…
too funny… ummm, as usual Pat - you’re babbling. Nothing in my post even remotely could be construed as supporting gang bangers. Even more ludicrous is your blanket labeling of people (par for the course for you). So… now anyone who “follows” Che, Wright or Obama is a gang banger?
Please… speak to your physicians and ask them to up your drug therapy or try something else. The med’s ain’t working.
Figured I make a bun for this hotdog.
You get a gangmember out of da’ hood, can’t always get da’ hood out of the gang member.
The ultimate icons for this are the notorious NWA.
For their great(or notorious) success stories, everyone keeps forgetting Easy E’s departure from this world with full blown A.I.D.S. One in five of the NWA lineup died after making it big for a decade.
Twenty percent mortality odds at the top, and they’re basically five out of fifty million?
Tupac lasted less than that didn’t he? He was actually a gifted actor in his own right.
Good to see several make the departure into other realms, especially character acting.
Other news too, no matter how hard they want to act, the Fresh Prince owns all others in terms of paychecks this day and age. He didn’t have to act hard to get there either.
I’m not all sold on the genre myself, prefer other music types but when I encounter it more than not the mood matches, the vol goes up.
Too Short grew up here for a while, made a tour appearance when he was owning the charts. The county cops had everyone out and even some guard duty called in LOL. Lived in the PJ, Chickasaw Courts, off Cherokee St.(where some of mine did decades before) if I’m not mistaken.
Whatever happened to MC Hammer?
Hey where did Rage Against the Machine go? I liked those guys.
Tupac lasted less than that didn’t he? He was actually a gifted actor in his own right.
And he could play a bass guitar like nobody’s biz.
One of the differences is the authenticity of the “anger” and it conveyance. With Tupac there is a certainty.
What does a musician dying of AIDS have to do with any of this? It wasn’t the first time, and it wasn’t the last.
The rappers, the gangstas and Wright - that does seem to be relevant. Not knowing you I wondered if you were going to call his sermons “reaching out” to these lost souls. And the same with Obama, but I don’t know of any gangstas or rappers they have reformed.
Maybe that black nationalism would be good for them if it made them put down the guns and the drugs and the crime. I guess that’s the idea with Farrakhan at least in so far as he is connected with the organization that gave us Malcolm X.
Personally, I do appreciate getting to read this view on Barack Obama. He seems to be very young to be president of the United States now and willing to do just about anything to win the nomination.
i like the eminem-papa doc analogy; it’s perfect.
You mean that Godamn country where a poor black kid from Chicago can go to Princeton and Harvard, can get executive jobs paying $300 k per year, and live in a big mansion while being seriously considered to be First Lady ? (e.g. Michelle, who is still angry).
Larry
I am begging you - please go back to what you are good at, National Security Matters, CIA, Covert Operations, International Affairs…
Because you sound sooooooo STUPID reviewing Ice Cube rap songs, giving us your take on “lyrics” and how they relate to Obama, etc.
Please, please - look in the mirror, go on vacation - this might be the “Jump the Shark” moment for you.
…and yes, you appear really, really old & white based on your post. “Akward….”
what the fuck is it with you guys who keep telling another human being to “go back to” whatever topic you can’t offer yourselves?
Start your own blog.
Quit being so narrow minded about what can be discussed at NoQuarter. In case you haven’t noticed there is another person here who runs the blog, aka Susanunpc, and she and others are dedicated to disseminating information about Barack Obama and this election.
Who’s eminem?
[...] Here, you can even let your children come to listen! (Well, this morning anyway. And not counting Larry’s post last night, or Larry’s all-time great rant against DailyObama that elicited 389 [...]
“He’s the black guy white folks generally feel comfortable with. But Ice Cube is a different matter.”
Too funny Laryy… next time, before you get sooo comfortable w/ one rapper over the next - you might want to actually look into the issue.
Ice T came before Ice Cube, and was one of the early progenitors of “gansta rap”… Ice Cube, copied from him.
“more comfortable” - yes, but only because they’re only looking at the surface.
Reminds me of the joke from the Chappelle show:
“White people love Wayne Brady because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X”
I like Ice T on Law and Order. He’s a good actor (and white moron I am, confused him with Ice Cube).
Larry,
One black man looks like another. LOL!
How funny you mention Ice T. I dug out an old Quincey Jones CD the other day. T sings Back on the Block.strong>
He’s the black guy white folks generally feel comfortable with.
Like Clarence ThomASS ey? I’ve been reading that Condi has fallen out of favor for daring to talk about America’s Birth Defect.
Cube’s album cover featured a dead Uncle Sam covered in a U.S. flag. So Barack’s pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, was not the first one to voice the sentiment–Goddamn America.
Correct. The first ones were white ministers in this country who aren’t taken to task for their comments.
Wright and Ice Cube share much in common. Both preach a message that black Americans are victims of white prejudice.
They are talking elite white prejudice. They aren’t talking about the average white person who is just a squirrel trying to get a nut like everyone else.
If you want to identify with white men of power who control you, be my guest.
Barack aligned himself with individuals like Wright and his new pastor, Otis Moss, who preach a form of black separation.
The majority of REAL Americans don’t agree with you. If Rev. Moss speaks of leaving the United Church of Christ family then I’ll pay attention to this seperatist movement.
Cee:
Do you mean Obama’s grandma? Because I heard Obama say
she was “the typical white person”….
Guess you do not know Obama as well as you thought despite having adopted his middle name: even you are more courageous than he is !!
No Andy. I’m talking about people like James Cayne who walk away with 61 million bucks and laugh at you.
Cee, is it a tactic to do your googling for you, or are slipping?
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/cayne-sells-over-61-million/story.aspx?guid=%7B4FA56775-C37A-471C-BD36-D32F42AF99CC%7D
They are talking elite white prejudice
Prejudice is color blind.
It is lost on you that “laugh at you” is not true. He could give a F*** about anyone but himself. Just like the gutless wonder, Obama was “mentored” by the Rev.
Correction:
INCORRECT. The first ones were white ministers in this country who aren’t taken to task for their comments.
Fine then Cee, bear your burden, stand with the cross nailed to you in front of white churches explaining how wrong their god damn america preachers are.
Nobody’s saying you are presidential, Hussein.
Mr. Murder,
This isn’t my burden. This is some crap that you keep pushing to elevate your candidate.
I told you long ago that these tactics wouldn’t work, didn’t I?
Could you be a little more racist, Larry? I don’t think the Klan heard you.
what did Larry say that was racist?
Go beyond your meme attack. Elaborate how this is racist.
Shorter Larry Johnson: Every black man must answer for the sins of every other black man, even if they share no background or views in common.
No, that’s not racist at all.
Did somebody say Belafonte? I’m lovin’ it!
Oh, for crying out loud, this comments section is getting more stupid by the minute. Where did he write that? Be specific. And keep in mind that if you’re not very careful I’m going to quote the text near it that disproves your point.
Shorter Balzeechris: build a racist strawman and then call it racist.
I’m not entirely sure that this rhetorical choice of Larry’s was a wise one, given how hot under the collar it’s bound to make some people. Some of the comments here are downright ridiculous, though.
SO….you make shit up, attribute it to Larry Johnson? You’re really fucked up. I think your credibility is about…zero.
There is nothing above in LJ’s comments that matches your projected made up strawman here.
Lordy, you people live in la-la land - over-analyzing and nitpicking to try and twist something to support your view points, and wandering so far down the road of fantasy in doing so, you seem as though you are on some hallucinationatory drugs.
Did you know that Rev Wright was quoting somebody else he saw/heard on FOX? Did you listen to his whole sermon, where the conclusion is one of forgiveness.
You don’t get the real “Barry” - because you don’t want to see it. Thank goodness there are people who do.
From what I read of Larry’s columns - is that he is continuously digging to find some tiny thing he can turn into a monstrous negative against Obama. There is nothing of substance - just hype.
Tab:
You are still trying to explain Wright’s hate-speech?
It is inexcusable
Which hole did you come from?
Talk about false analogies.
Jeremiah Wright isn’t running for office. He’s a reverend, now retired, who was preaching to a primarily black audience. Reverend Wright served in the US Marines and is well respected among his fellow ministers (primarily white) in the United Church of Christ.
If you dare to go beyond the sound bites and listen to the entirety of Reverend Wright’s speech about the events of 9/11, you’ll observe that he preached for the need for introspection and thoughtfulness in the face of tragedy. He pointed out that when tragedy strikes, the human inclination is to lash out reflexively and in anger. The fact is that his observations were extraordinarily precient.
Propelled by the anger of a nation at the attacks of 9/11 and with the backing and support Hillary Clinton and others in Congress, President Bush lashed out at Iraq - despite the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Hundreds of billions of dollars later with more than a million dead (according to the most scientific estimates), here we are. Tell me, how wrong was Jeremiah Wright?
If you’re objective is to help Hillary Clinton here, you’ve done anything but.
Jeremiah Wright is a hate-monger and Obama’s 20 years intimate relationship with his, as his “sounding board” and “moral compass” is inexcusable and a disgrace.
Obama is unelectable.
To call this profoundly retarded “analysis” racist would be an insult to thinking racists everywhere.
INCOGNITA…
Understand this Real Clear..
LARRY JOHNSON is NOT a Racist..He Did NOT Write the LYRICS He Put Up Here..he did NOT Write the Song TITLE..”THE WRONG NIGGA TO FUCK WIT”..A Black Man did..An African American..He degrades His OWN RACE just to make a Buck..He Teaches kids..Mostly Black Youth Nasty Words..and Bad Attitudes..
He Did it…ICE CUBE…”Black” Rapper..
NOT Larry Johnson..
He also Put a picture of a DEAD Uncle Sam on his cover..With the American Flag draped over it..
MESSAGE From This BLACK rapper..
You Can find that in the Lyrics..The Lyrics of a Black racist..Thwe same Message of Hate and Discriminatrion You Have heard from Jeremiah Wright..
The fact is that NOW..Blacks talk more Hatred and Racism than White People do..We didn’t tolerate it..we Teach Agaionst it…and the government went after the
Militant White racists like the KKK..and legal efforts made to end Segregation..
I am Not a racist..I Don’t ever teach racial hatred.. The Black community should examine if any of thier Own ARE Exploiting them..for MONEY from Drug or CD Sales..or are Degrading them and demeaning them…and demeaning thier Women..and setting Bad Examples for BLACK Children..
Like the Song Go’s INCOGNITA,,
“TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF….BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ME”
You’re embarrassing yourself, Larry. As a white member of the hip-hop generation, I am appalled and ashamed of my elders. Old people suck.
go play with your etcha sketch, cracker.
I was watching a debate regarding Barack Obama’s candidacy on C-SPAN, and when Louis Farrakhan was brought up, the pro-Obama debater, clearly annoyed at this point, said “Barack Obama is not responsible for the views of every black person in Chicago.”
That remark got a standing ovation.
Fantastic post, Larry. It’s the best parody of the view that Obama has to “reject and denounce” every black person that I’ve ever seen.
SO replace your racism with ageism,…what a fucking crock. And your Whiteness is a reflection of your division, your selfstyled “hip-hop” is more reflection of it. And I’m certain you and I aren’t so far apart in years.
In a post like this it is important to do some research. First off, Sen. Obama lived with his mother and Indonesian step-father from age 6-10. He then went to live with his grandparents in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, he did attend Punahou Academy, but did so only on an academic scholarship. His family did not have money, and in fact there were periods of his childhood during which they needed food stamps. He also attended Columbia on an academic scholarship, and became the first African-American President of the Harvard Law Review in the school’s history. I challenge you to find anything divisive or racially charged that Sen. Obama has said, and before you go all overboard on the “typical white person” comment perhaps it could behoove you to read the entire statement as follows. “The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person who, uh, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know there’s a reaction that’s been been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way and that’s just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it.”
Agreed he could have removed the word white, but he is clearly trying to say that his grandmother was not racist.
Mr. Johnson, I have respected your views, especially your defense of Ms. Wilson, during the CIA leak investigation, but the recent anything goes tactics and ugliness from both you and Amb. Wilson, have done nothing to advance the dialog to ultimately defeat Sen. McCain in the general election.
“Agreed he could have removed the word white, but he is clearly trying to say that his grandmother was not racist.”
He did engage in racism. He typified people and it reflects his views that there is a “typical” white person, when there isn’t. That is the issue when he says such a thing. Call it a Freudian slip if you will but he makes many comments like this.
I don’t know how many “white folks” ya gotta know to statistically make such a comment, but he’s full of shit. It showed how he views “typical white folks” and his own grandmother. He can say she wasn’t a racist, but he does imply she is a bigot on some level.
The rest of your comments are just pedestrian politic bullshit. Don’t fire off at Joseph Wilson because of this blog after claiming some sort of respect. Your Respect is worthless.
its time you leave the party… you are not a democrat anymore, this is vile filth
did geekesque program you to write that comment?
What? I am excommunicated from the church of ST freakin Obama? …Left to wonder out where?
Perhaps the followers of Moses had to wander in the desert for 40 years or longer until they were reinforced by a new wave of expelled Asiatics and became strong enough to conquer a new land.
Guess I’ll have to wait.
http://home.worldonline.nl/meester7/engmoses.html
oh grand Kubla, your wish is my command.
(your wish is strategically stupid. Never create more adversaries than you already have. your comment is selfish and shortsighted. now what you’ve done is guarantied more opposition, nice cause)
And if you were aiming that at Larry Johnson…you really don’t know Larry Johnson.
your true colors have been shown Larry. It will be a happy day when the democratic party purges you from their ranks. It was nice knowing you. Your 15 minutes fame are over.
did you read the diary? i recommend you read and reread the diary until its full import and significance is comprehended.
I read the diary. He ties Barack Obama to…. Ice Cube? (Who he refers to as Ice T, as if it wasn’t already clear that Larry Johnson thinks that all black people think alike).
It’s an absolute howler, and it’s making the rounds of the blogosphere now under headings like “Larry Johnson: nutcase?”)
“He ties Barack Obama to”
Wrong, he ties Ice Cubes comments to those of Jeremiah Wright.
“Who he refers to as Ice T…Larry Johnson thinks that all black people think alike”
Wrong, or he wouldn’t have written “But Ice Cube is a different matter”
If you can’t get past your own filters, then you aren’t reading Larry Johnson for what he said, but for what you want to find. Have some integrity for your own conclusions.
Here is why I think this post is racist:
First, he tries to equate an “authentic black man” with some amalgamation of Ice Cube and Wright. Apparently that is Larry’s understanding of an “authentic black man”.
He portrays Wright as having an agenda of snookering his followers into believing that Obama had a black single mother. As if Wright (or Wright’s followers) would have had no interest in Obama having a white mother. So there, he’s painting Wright or Wright’s congregation as being concerned about some sort of racial purity… without giving us any reason to actually believe that. It’s just an assumption of Larry’s that the black people would only think in those terms.
Then there’s private schools, privileged upbringing, and elite colleges… each somehow being phrased as being mutually exclusive to being black. And therefore, a deficit to somehow make up for in proving one’s blackness. It’s Larry that ascribes that motivation to Obama. Not because of any evidence, that’s Larry’s assumption.
And of course the “gangsta” riff. That serves no purpose than to paint Obama with the negative stereotype. Larry’s intention.
Honestly, if that’s what it really meant to be black, I probably wouldn’t want him to lead the nation either. But the problem is, that’s actually what Larry thinks it means.
It sounds like Larry needs an education on what it actually means to be black. I think there’s a high bar to calling someone racist. It’s got to be more than believing there are racial distinctions, and it’s got to be more even than ignorance or fear… but Larry’s speaking here as if blackness itself - as he defines it - is a mark against someone being desirable as a President.
So yeah. It’s racist.
As far as I’m concerned, I’m careful when accusing someone of racism or sexism, because I want my credibility intact in case I see an example of the real thing.
This is the real thing.
That sounds really weird……
Racist much? This is disgusting. Hillary’s supporters have been so blinded they turn to racism in their futile attempt to destroy Obama. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
You are really desperate to bury Obama’s disgraceful 20 years relationship with that hate-monger, Jeremiah Wright, aren’t you?
The reality is that it is inexcusable.
Trying to find “dirt” where there isn’t any is not going to make Wright, Meeks, Ayers and Rezko go away.
I’m a volunteer and a supporter of Hillary’s. We’re not all responsible for what one wingnut says anymore than Obama is responsible for the lyrics of Ice Cube.
Quick tip.. It’s John McCain that will be the problem. Painting Barack Obama as Angry Black to askeer white peeps into thinking they’d better not let “Someone like that near the White House” is going to be what the GOP will try to do.
For the record.. You deserve to lose.
Have a look at some of the remarks that seem to suggest that what you are talking about is ok. This is what race baiting intends to do, and I just had a fuck of a day trying to explain this to thick heads who still try their damndest to claim that It’s Barack Obama that is responsible for these things.
Keep at it. It’ll at the very least innoculate people about the tactic.. But you’re a racist.. and a scumbag. You save the GOP a lot of money doing these paint jobs for them. I don’t know why you would be considered knowledgable on terrorism if you can’t understand the underpinnings for some of the rage that these “Gangstas” expressed in their music.
Try empathizing with people that worry more about their kids being shot or stabbed at school, people who get pulled over for driving on the wrong street, people who work to get drug houses removed from their block.. and then think about what the example of Barack Obama will bring to them.
By the way, thanks to gqmartinez above for making the point about how America has changed, and these “Gangstas” have changed and matured and evolved along with it.
Are you that naive or are you delusional?
Do you think the GOP doesn’t already have TONS of “paint jobs” as you call them? Have you being paying attention to the last 8 years?
We’re all fully aware of what the GOP does. Which is why seeing this from Democrats is disturbing. “The Republicans do it too” is a horrible justification for this filth.
With friends like these…
You must be talking about the filth and trash and hate your pal geekesque continuoulsy spews at Clinton, right?
Quick tip.. It’s John McCain that will be the problem. Painting Barack Obama as Angry Black to askeer white peeps into thinking they’d better not let “Someone like that near the White House” is going to be what the GOP will
tryto do. Shit all, I’ll join ‘em.Yo Yo go clean out your own closet! ok?
It on the news stand now, right there by the check..no no right there! Look what the National Enqiures FRONT PAGE SAYS! (April 7th addition)
Destroy White People (what Obama didn’t tell America about his pastor)
The re-thugs won’t be spending to much money on it since Obama is making his own oppo-research such a growin concern.
You still haven’t, after all the huff and puff, addressed Larry J’s main point…that Jeremiah Wright and Ice Cube’s sentiments at the time…are out of the Mainstream. You haven’t addressed it because attacking the messenger is your only skill.
If you’re serious about ending racism, and I know I am damn sure I am, then deal with the matter at hand, not your rush to yell “RACIST”.
Smearing, ad hominem attack, and all your other drivel does not answer the basic comment at the very top of this page…that these extreme comments are out of the mainstream, and it is the mainstream that ultimately shapes the voice of America. If you don’t believe that, then discuss THAT instead of how Racist you believe Larry Johnson to be.
I’m not a shallow talker about racism because its too serious a problem. If you are serious about it, then be serious about it.
I support Hillary Clinton, and I DENOUNCE AND REJECT this post.
Jessie:
This is the real thing.
Can you elaborate Jessie, what is it that you rnounce, reject and see as the real thing? Or is it too profound of a question?
Because in another post of yours above you seem to be justifying Obama’s life-long 20 years disgraceful intimate relationship with a hate-monger like Jeremiah Wright, who in addition to all trash he spews from his mouth he also publishes in his pastor’s page the manifesto of Hamas’s terrorist leader.
Jessie:

I don’t reply to people who first condescend to me (”is that too profound of a question?”), and then lie about my posts. Where did I say anything about Wright at all?
To anyone reading - please search this page and see if you can figure out what “Andy” here is talking about?
Please get the fuck out of my party.
What party is that? YOUR PARTY?
If it s YOUR PARTY, I don’t want to be in it to begin with. But I assure you, selfcentered asshole, I’m not in YOUR party, and neither is Larry Johnson or many others here.
YOUR party…the nerve
OH LORD. I knew this post would be conroversial as soon as I saw the word “nigga” in the title.
Larry is not a racist. This is the same excuse Obama supporters have been accusing Clintonites of since the beginning of this campaign. Someone can’t even quote a rap song without being called a racist.
But Jeremiah Wright? Obama supporters call him misunderstood or justified in his anger. There is no excuse for the things he said to his congregation. So coming here and calling Larry a racist because he used the word “nigga” in his title and associating that song with Obama’s life story as a BI-RACIAL man who has attempted his entire life to somehow prove that he is black by joining this controversial church is valid. Larry had a point and the things he has pointed out are the same things I thought about when I first saw that youtube video of Rev. Wright. How can he talk about a Hillary - a white woman - in his sermon when he doesn’t even ackonwledge the fact that Obama’s own mother was a white woman? I’m sure Obama’s mother is turning in her grave right now if she knew her son was going to a church like this which demonizes all white people and makes generalizations that anyone who doesn’t consider racist is obviously in denial.
I’m not saying Larry knows much about black culture or rap music but let the guy analyze this. If Obama and his minions want to discuss race then let us discuss it without being so sensitive we’ve gotta jump every white person who does the same thing Obama and his racist pastor has been doing for the last 20 years.
If you think that Barack Obama has to answer for Ice T (oops, I mean Ice Cube), then I can’t help you.
Sure, Larry Johnson isn’t a racist - as far as I know.
Reading your ‘post’ was a real head-shaking experience. In my mind I started to formulate my arguments - your interesting assumption that ‘authentically black’ is somehow incompatible with privilege for example. But then I surveyed some of the other offerings on this site and came to the conclusion that I would be ‘pissing into the wind’ as they say. And, taking into consideration the interesting polls which are counter-intuitive to the many insistences here that Obama is failing dismally; the delegate win in Texas and the big super-delegate move currently afoot, I realized I really need not bother. Better to let the results in the coming two months speak for themselves.
I’m really glad to see Obama’s supporters heeding their candidates call for a frank and open discussion of race. Shouting down people for their opinions is perpetuating the cycle.
I’m not a Clinton supporter, but I’m a longtime DailyKos reader and sick to fuck of the Obama supporters on that site lying in wait to cry racism at every turn, thereby cheapening the charge right in time for the general election, when you can count on the Republicans to reeeeally be racist.
You fucking idiots.
Love,
Extremely “soft” Obama supporter who hates online Obama supporters, really and truly, oh yes.
I applaud your distinctions and integrity. I have many good friends who have fallen the way of the Obama camp as I have fallen the way of the independent critic. They have finally realized I’m not a Clinton supporter, even though I will defend her where necessary to maintain fair witness. I’ve done the same thing related to facts about Obama that were blurred or overlooked.
But this discussion on Race cannot belong to one camp. And yes, as you said, to throw racism around so much as cheapened its critical edge. Most equate bigotry with racism, and I do not accept that synonym. Racism is the systematic engagement of bigotry along racial lines, the division of people, the power allocation or resistance. Bigotry is what most people mean when they scream racist.
Now, does my brother Larry Johnson here have some things to learn about Black Consciousness,…maybe…but unless you just failed Reading Comprehension…that isn’t what he is saying in these various posts on Obama’s “blackness”.
It would seem that way to a pedestrian asshole who just looks to start a blog fight based on their self-righteous bullshit. But the problem is…his comment doesn’t differ much from many of my friends around the black community who are not monolythic in culture or politic.
One great mentor friend of mine who has covered this topic for years on the radio said it clearly, “what is Obama going to do for my community? He doesn’t come from my community and didn’t experience, nor did his parents, what my parents experienced as black folks in America. Maybe his wife’s did, but he didn’t. And now suddenly he’s my black candidate? Don’t get me wrong I’m going to vote for him, but I’m under no illusions that he understands my experience or that of my people going way back. He can’t understand it outside of intellectual gatherings.”
And he’s nailed what Larry Johnson is saying here. So I guess next we’ll call my friend a black racist then too…because he said the same thing. But if thats true then most of the black folks I know must be black racists because most of them have been critical of Obama’s experience as it relates to their very lives. None of them has had the luxury to go to Harvard, afford a big house like he has. They don’t whine about not having $10,000 for piano lessons…they are busy working and trying to pay off their little homes and cars.
Most will vote for Obama because of the symbolic change, and have criticised his basic politic. I support their decision because its their choice. But when some of them spoke up as women for Hillary, they were shouted down, they were called Uncle Toms, or sell-outs.
This stuff is bullshit to be hearing such a onesided conversation. And like it or not, Larry Johnson is not a racist, and god bless him he’s not politically correct.
Oh, it would be much easier if he was…but then change the site name from NO Quarter…to…”well I’ll cave in once people don’t like what I say.org”
I’m not interested in namby pamby talks on race. Race doesn’t fucking exist folks. Culture exists, and we have at hand a cultural conflict here that LJ was addressing. He is saying that the clash of the cultural values espoused by Jeremiah Wright (using the example of Ice Cube’s song with it) are in conflict with the mainstream American voice.
If you don’t believe he’s correct about that, then I’d have to say you’ve been sipping at the leftist extreme for a while. (note: thats where I’ve been drinking for years and only recently accepted that I am not the mainstream)
Larry is just angry because Hillary Clinton has lost the Democratic primary; he’s angry and he’s lashing out. When he apologizes, we should all try our best to forgive him.
Ok, fair enough.
If most black people are “scared” by this stuff, why is Barack precluded from being uncomfortable with it? Why does he have to agree? Let’s see where Larry takes this.
Oh, so being a black man automatically means that you can’t be privileged, and that you must agree with any random rap lyrics (even though he just said “white and black” people are “scared” by the lyrics…but that’s ok Larry, we know it was just a rhetorical turn). Does that mean all white people agree with the lyrics produced by, say, Marilyn Manson? No, because that’s ridiculous. No group is monolithic in such a way. BUT, when you attack or seek to invalidate that which makes them similar, like Bill did after the SC primary and you are now, what do you expect them to do but band together?
Your come to Jesus moment can’t come too soon, Larry.
The major problem with your post is that it rests so solidly on broad and profound ignorance. First is that you confuse the class backgrounds of all your characters. Of all the individuals that you mention in this post, the only one without a college degree or diploma is in fact, your good guy, Ice T, who went into the army after high school. And, the music that you criticize so cluelessly, gangsta rap, was in fact created by none other than the same good guy: Ice T. He had a child while still in high school, and his album Home Invasion was one of the most controversial gangsta rap albums of all time. You obviously know squat about that.
Your bad guy, Ice T, on the other hand, graduated with a diploma in Architectural Drafting from Phoenix Institute of Technollogy in 1987. Both his parents were employees of UCLA and unlike Ice T, Cube grew up in a middle class household.
Your other bad guy ‘gangsta’, Jeremiah Wright, who by your account is supposed to come from a worse than middle-class background (as opposed to Obama’s supposed middle-class background), in fact came from a solidly middle-class clergy family, attended Virginia Union University, joined the US Marine Corps, and then transferred to the US Navy, eventually graduating valedictarian from the Great Lakes Naval Center in 1963. Wright then studied at the National Naval Medical Center in Maryland from where he graduated salutarian in 1967. He trained as a cardiopulmonary technician. As a naval medic, US Navy Corpsman Third Class Jeremiah Wright participated in President Lyndon Johnson’s heart surgery at the United States Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland in November 1966. Wright eventually earned a bachelor’s degree from Howard University in 1968, and a master’s from the same university in 1969. Howard, as you probably know, is the nation’s flagship historically black college. Then Wright earned a master’s degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, one of the nation’s most respected, and eventually a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton.
Contrary to the insinuations in your blog, Dr. Jeremiah Wright is not a street gangsta. On the contrary, he apparently received a doctoral degree before you did.
To complicate things further for you, Barack Obama did indeed come from a far less well-to-do family than Jeremiah Wright. His father left when he was two, and like Bill Clinton (whose father also died young in a car crash, like Obama’s), he was raised by his grandparents. Like Clinton he went to those elite schools that everyone talks about on scholarships earned through hard work, not as a consequence of family privilege. His mother and grandparents could never have put him through college. He paid his way through college and logged a student loan.
So your class analyses, your insinuations, your claims of who is searching from gangsta street cred from whom, your opinions on who is gangsta and who is not, all turn out to be wrong and ill-informed by ignorance and poor research, which is surprising coming from a highly qualified sociologist like you.
What happened? Is it perhaps the case that in your eagerness to throw your race-bait, you threw all requisites of your calling as a scholar out the window? Or is it the case that you feel that when it comes to commentary on black people, your ignorance is enough and you need do no research? Or did you willingly suppress what you know or found out so you can go ahead and make your no-point?
Clean up your act, Sir. Do your research. Deepen your knowledge before you pontificate. Leave the race inferno alone: don’t fan it. As a well-regarded public intellectual, try and play a more positive role. Keep your ignorant opinion to yourself when you are in the public space. Pull back from this divisive duty that you have appointed yourself for partisan reasons. Do not write or say anything that you end up apologying for, to quote another rapper that you might not know anything about. And by the way, take time and study Jeremiah Wright’s sermons with the objectivity of the intellectual that you are, if you can still manage it, and ask yourself if Jesus would preach different today. You can certainly do better. Thank you.
Bruce, first off, I have to say…Yours has been the only substantial comment that I can support because you effectively dealt with the issue.
(NOTE: You too mistook Ice-T for Ice Cube in one comment, but I’ll let that slide as a slip of the mind for a moment when you said, “Your bad guy, Ice T, on the other hand”…but can that be applied to Larry Johnson too..or no..)
I support your criticism because it properly challenges Larry’s take on the issue. Instead of simply shouting names and lowballing a response you took the time to explain what the differences are, make distinctions, and call for better conversation on the topic.
I don’t agree with some of your conclusions but not because they arent well explained but because this whole conversation has missed part of what is being said about Barack. What is missed about Larry’s second point regarding Eminem is that from a point of view…Barack Obama has lived a charmed life. How do I know? Because I didn’t get those scholarships, even though my grades were pretty good and my test grades were at the top of the class. Was I simply lazy? nope. Was my family able to pay my way, nope..they didn’t exist after a certain age. And my story isn’t all that uncommon.
I share the same path as Obama and Bill Clinton in losing my father when I was young. And I was raised by my grandmother. She and my mother did everything they could to support me, and I am blessed by their support. But did I get into Harvard? Nope. (I’d love to get a full scholarship to Columbia if you know anyone who can arrange that)
Privilege is in the eye of the beholder sometimes, and Obama lives at a financial strata I may never, and probably don’t want to, live at. He is a charmed boy for sure and I don’t begrudge him that. But explain that the commoners around me who say, “wow, go to Indonesia? Grow up in Hawaii? have a parent interesting enough to look into, a cultural past that is interesting?” and you’ll see why many of them aren’t so charmed by his story.
But again, I thank you for your comment. I’m willing to hear reasoned voices on this topic because it is a serious topic. I’m sure Larry Johnson is able to take heat for his comments, he’s a big boy. And you and others should give him hell if you really believe he’s off. But it is also important to maintain one’s own integrity in the process and I believe fairly speaking you did this.
bruce wins. he’s intelligent and correct.
although i still think he missed larry simply pulling out the idiots, drawing them to the surface, letting them show their own ignorance.
well done.
Larry.
Not the least problem in your analysis, but it’s Ice-T who performs on Law and Order. Not Ice Cube. Ice Cube is a singer and actor too. But they’re really not at all alike. And your confusing them betrays rather a bit of a problem with your entire premise.
Ice-T once endured a bit of controversy with one of his songs, “Cop Killer,” for which he was condemned basically because of the song’s title. The lyric detailed the story of a protagonist killing a police officer, quite identical in plotline to the Dirty Harry movie wherein the protagomist (played by Clint Eastwood) killed several bad guy cops. That was the point - the cop in Ice-T’s song was a crooked cop.
But Ice-T is black, and Eastwood is white, and the actual detail particulars of the twin storytelling were irrelevant to Ice-T’s critics. They weren’t interested in the storytelling context of the song or the fact that a white tough guy hero icon did precisely the same thing in a movie for which they so enthusiastically vilified the singer. That bothersome parallel didn’t serve their political agenda, so it was conveniently ignored. They chose instead to cynically employ a prejudiced double standard to foment a controversy based on isolating a song title voided of context, as a basis for what was, in fact, nothing but a political smear.
But at least they knew who they were talking about.
“Not the least problem in your analysis, but it’s Ice-T who performs on Law and Order. Not Ice Cube. Ice Cube is a singer and actor too.”
Read again up there…LJ already knew this..or he wouldn’t have said, re: Ice-T: “He’s the black guy white folks generally feel comfortable with. But Ice Cube is a different matter.”
And to folks who don’t spend every day listening to NWA like I did, two men going by the name “Ice” that didn’t start with the word Vanilla, might get confusing. ‘Welcome to the Terrordome’ still sits in my CD changer all the time and I will never disavow my love of NWA. But lets not reduce our reading comprehension skills to shit. Larry J made the distinction in the opening comment…read it again.
now wait just a second here…
you’re indicating some kind of double standard…
who the hell do you think you are…
we here in “merica” (think GWB) don’t take too kindly to y’all indicating there’s a double standard in the media…or in politics…
white man can kill bad cops, sure…that’s a no brainer…
black man cannot sing about killing bad cops…it’s murder!
God…puhleeze…point out the obvious, wil ya…
(oh, and black/white are, in real reality, as useless as God/Devil…they only exist because of each other, and do not exist separetly…we made it up, as humans, to use against other humans…go us…we rock.)
RACE IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.

RACE IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.
Chris
While I might agree that race does not exist biologically, it has enormous import/currency socially, which is the point I’m assuming with regard to ‘culture’. However culture too is a highly contested term, so can’t say I completely agree with your substitution. Regardless. I do have a problem with your
Authenticity IS at issue here - it feeds directly back into the ‘monolithic’ homogeneous black experience that is too simplistic for my liking, and as you rightly point out, is often used to ‘cast out’ those that don’t fit the monolithic image. Now that does not mean I find Larry’s article ‘racist’, I don’t. I do find it fairly uninformed, and I resent a white person appropriating a discussion of authenticity and then try to link it somewhat clumsily to a fairly unsubstantiated point; that - as you say:
That might have been perceived wisdom I could have agreed with months ago, Obama’s surprising rebound in the polls indicate otherwise. To what extent it has yet to be ascertained. I don’t deny his right to make the point however, given the tone of he posts generally I simply choose not to engage him on it.
I also dislike how quickly people latch on to the concept of ‘politically un-correct’ as somehow concomittant with bravery or truthfulness. Some of the most revolting and bigoted things I’ve heard people say are prefaced with the phrase “I know this is not politically correct but …”. I have a quote I keep by my computer in fact:
Blahblah - Obama supporters, like all candidates’ supporters come in all flavors - some willing to engage in ‘race’ talk without over-reacting others not. As you yourself attest.
i think i might love you…
wow…
so you mean, people are unique individuals and categorization by phenotypical and SES markers is not only false and problematic, but also potentially quite damaging to the ultimate goal of social justice and equality among human beings?
again…i think i’m in love…
Well my ’snarkometer’ is not too finely tuned this morning, so I’m going to take your comment at face value. And alas it is to be a brief love-affair! Categorization by phenotypical/SES markers should be false and problematic sure; alas you don’t have to look to far around the world to see that in practice they are ‘true’ and definitely problematic! Add to that I’m not much of a fan of the much vaunted ‘individualism’ that dominates in Western countries such as this - we are both individuals and at all ties ‘in community’ IMO.
I would have to say I’m a paradox’isist - if there were such a thing. Dichotomies and either/or just don’t do it for me babe
i’m not at all sure what a paradoxi-isist is, to be honest, but, it sounds like “tsssssst”
(yeah, that’s hot….)
face value is good enough…should be hard to mistake true love…for, as this page is fond of quoting lyrics:
“it’s the only thing…that there’s…all too little of…”
“love…sweet love…”
yeah…it’s like that.
using race to categorize is all too real.
also all too problematic…but somehow i now feel i’m preaching to the chior…
keep up the intelligent dissemination of truth…

” I do have a problem with your”
er…you didn’t argue with me there because that is a quote, and I doubt my friend is going to come debate you. I was simply showing that what LJ has said has been said by many folks I know in the black community. That connection can be ignored by you, but it won’t go ignored when i hear it from opposite polls in my own life. take issue with it all you wish.
And the “rebound in the polls” …double check the conditions of those polls…are they general America? or Democratic Party voters only, because there hasn’t been as much a switch in the polls from the general election view. Mainstream polling wouldn’t be exclusive to Democratic voters. I saw a pretty good poll tonight that broke itself down into Dem/GOP/Ind/Undecided, and he made back the ground lost in the Dem and Und polls, but not in the GOP and Indy polls.
But to a good point you made, I don’t simply want to stop at “culture” distinctions either, I’m basically stating that Race does not exist in the biological construct and its continued acceptance is disgusting to me. I believe there are too many blends to come up with 5 types of people or 3 types or 10 types…when we have almost 7 billion variations on the theme.
Thanks for your thoughtful response.
Apologies - I did not mean to imply they were your words, merely that I was arguing with the point being made by using them. I totally agree that such conversations are regularly held amongst black communities - they are important conversations and I have participated in them - do doubt my position in those debates is apparent! I simply object to the simplification (author, not you) and appropriation of those arguments.
And thank you - some huckster (!) said it is good to disagree without being thoroughly disagreeable (or agree as the case may be). I have appreciated your well argued points even if I haven’t always agreed with them.
And to you Jesse - xxx
and same gratitude to you.
The topic is serious to me, so I don’t mince around with joking about it much, nor am I afraid of it after heading into my third decade on the issue.
as much as I hated the experience, I was abused by a rabid racist as a teen who my grandmother was unwise to be involved with for about 3 years. as much as I hated it, it broke the subject open in a way I might not have been able to see if I has simply never experienced.
My greatest targets of criticism are “benevolent racists” or sometimes thought of in the terms of “White Left” racism. The signs of it are clear in the Democratic party including some of the Obama supporters I know personally who adore Obama but have little tolerance for ‘irritating’ black voices or no room for black republicans. When a white guy says, “uncle tom” about a black man, I want to smack the shit out of him.
The same is true about younger white men or boys who say they are so “hip-hop” when we knew they grew up in the burbs. They are living in a stereotype sold to them by Radio station promotions, and by modern opportunist film makers and TV producers.
I have encouraged them to reject ‘white’ and they simply cannot fathom the conversation. I rejected ‘white’ after doing elaborate work on my family geneology which revealed how many different threads it took to produce me, thus by extension, my family.
And I’m glad you haven’t always agreed with my points, because though I’m fluent in the conversation, i’m not god, and don’t have pure omnipotence, I need your eyes, your heart and views to challenge remaining notions and conclusions.
Next Mission: uproot the deeply entrenched sexism around me.
“benevolent racists”
As a fellow fan of Gil Scott Heron, I get great catharsis through music and lyrical genius (including, even particularly, rap), but your term here reminds me of a fantastic song by Phil Ochs “Love me - I’m a liberal’ where he snarks on those who cried over Medgar Evers but thought Malcolm X got what was coming to him. For some reason this song came to mind reading your post. And I appreciate how important and often personal these conversations are - confronting or experiencing injustice in the world is a battle, the battle for some - it cost Mr Ochs his life. In that spirit, your response moved me. We are perhaps more alike than you might imagine
oh I imagined we were more alike than my simplistic language might reveal.
Heron is my poet, and Marvin sang my life in Inner City blues, Malcolm was a hero even before he had a change of heart at Mecca, and my first awakening was from reading writings of Oliver Tambo and Baba Nelson Mandela (Before Danny Glover portrayed him).
Dead Prez and Michael Franti are more my tastes these days but there are many great poets and artists.
I must do something so my children walk into this world with their eyes wide open, and I do look at this 7 generations away. I’m fortunate to be able to trace back many roots of my family over 50 generations back. I am all too aware how many cannot go back more than 3 generations.
Thank you for your thoughts and keep up that spirit. We need it. We are tied by it.
The last word:
you are all fools.
larry got you all…
is nice to have hate mongers (like “andy”) speak up.
at least that way we can see them clearly…
“andy” we know now who you are…
you are a Hate Monger. We have your Ip adress logged.
you loser, you led us right to yourself.
Reverend Wright is coming to get you. watch out.
Oh, and, “we don’t want anyone who likes rap near the white house.”
Ahaahahahahhahhahahaa…wow.
Americans being fooled into showing their true colors by Larry Johnson, No Quarter; Americans using their online identity to prove their stupidity, priceless.
Listen, Obama is no tupac or ice T or ice cube. If he was, there’d be no question no who to vote for.
Still, that said, he’s the best chance we have at being actually accepted into the Kingdom of Christ.
Christ will forgive you only if you vote for Obama.
Remember that…or else you will burn in hell!
(well…but you probably would if there was a hell and if you did vote for mccain.)
Cheers, nighaz.
you are clearly a product of a mediocre educational institution.
Yes, I am.
the one American’s like you created, one called…life. Consider me the pastor of the Church of Real Life. Where knowledge and experience meet and combine to deliver truth.
I’m from an institution of education that includes reality, it’s just hard for you to recognize, having been relentlessly bombarded by propaganda for so long…
glad to see you stretching your mind a bit and seeking some sort of factual basis for your existence…
I am proud of you.
The fact is, you’ve been bamboozled. This is not your fault as an individual, but once you begin to recognize it, if you do not take action to stop it, then you are an accomplice.
Jesse, you condescend and yet think you aren’t an accomplice too? Come on, move your rhetoric up a bit, I can see the spirit in you. Bring it up a notch by dropping the snark a bit. Many who have suffered deserve more from YOU and from ME.
I don’t snark about this because it is like spiting on the graves of those who we supposedly honor. Join me, seriously.
why is it that you think i have such angst?
i’m sick to my stomach of being an accomplice.
hundreds of thousands of people have died because i am an accomplice.
join what?
join who?
i have asked who would vote for obama if he came right out, up front, and said, “a vote for me is a vote for a total overthrow of it all…”
i coup, a revolution, etc…whatever you want to call it…”
Would you?
Do you have the belief to vote for a candidate who will change it all?
really, really, change it all?
and, further, will you ont only vote for that, but also, further, require it?
will you step up and end the war in iraq, end violence worldwide, and establish equality among humans?
what will you sacrifice to achieve that?
c’mon man…your kid plays video games. get real.
rip that damn thing out of the wall.
get rid of it.
do something substantial.
now i’m pissed.
Do some research.
People who support Obama open their mouths, and reveal themselves to be fools, they’re so ignorant of his real connections.
Either that, or they’re corrupt, too.
Not meaning you, but the low information acolyte looks kinda dumb.
At the very least, an intuitive mechanism should kick in, but it doesn’t.
you are a parody of yourself
Oh.My.God. Larry Johnson has just outed himself as a racist for the world to see. And apparently he’s proud of it, too. I hope all Clinton supporters who read this drivel reject and denounce Larry Johnson (hello, Taylor Marsh, Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson, et al). One only has to read the insulting comments here to know this blog is flypaper to morons. (Present company excepted since I heard about this crap and had to come see for myself.)
Shame on you, Larry Johnson.
Move beyond the meme and smearing a whole crowd as morons, there is no monolythic conversation here. Don’t exclude yourself from the ranks you join with this conversation. Challenge Larry’s words instead of paraphrasing.
If you have something to say of value, then say it. Don’t sell me or others short if you have a take at all. Its easy to say racist to others, I’ve done it for years…then I realized it wasn’t changing the world away from racism at all.
Chris,
isn’t it shameful to see that the word idiot and the word racist have become synonomous?
Larry is no more a racist than is charles barkley or michael jordan…
it’s an entrenched mindset of stupidity, not racism.
your point that mislabeling something and failing to see it for what it is makes it harder to define and eradicate is well taken.
Larry, you are an idiot, but not a very good racist, if that is what you are trying to be.
The horrific part is, you are a large part of the US intelligence regarding terrorism.
Yet, you fail to recognize that hate speech, such as your post is, is terrorism.
Remember, folks, that terrorism starts with propaganda. It only gets worse with violence.
Violence is NOT the only form of terrorism.
Therefore, to say Larry Johnson is a terrorist, for having posted this blog, is much more accurate then to label him as a racist.
So, the defining question:
if larry johnson is a terrorist, holding by the arguments of Obama/Wright/rappers are racists, then aren’t all Clinton supporters terrorists?
try to figure that one out…oh brainiacks of higher learning…
wow, you really don’t see how you just can’t be taken seriously.
I don’t want to bait out more of your lowest conversation, and will try one more time to appeal to your more estute mind, because my sense can’t be lying when I feel I see it in you.
Calling Larry an idiot is “ad hominem abusive” logical trash talk. It does not deal with the issue. I don’t want to do your work for you, but I will point you back to the comments made by Bruce. Bruce took him to task on some issues and I hope it serves the conversation well.
LJ opened his comments with “white moran I am” and yet you think…with all your flame and bluster you’ll reach anyone with your response? I want you to reach someone, or you’re wasting yours and their time. YOUR TIME IS TOO VALUABLE TO WASTE.
I’ve got a loud mouth on me too Jesse, and I probably turn off a few folks I’d rather open up, so I know I have some room to improve, but if you carefully go over this and other comments on Race, I don’t play low ball. Not on this topic I won’t. TO many of my closest teachers and friends suffer because of racism and sexism for me to low-ball.
I’ll snark on you basic politics, but not on racism and sexism. Enough is enough.
Hear me Jesse, be a good brother and raise the bar a bit. Do it for those who came before us. Please.
i’m as serious as a mac 10, brother.
i’ve offered my services as an agent of change.
i’m here changing right now.
take me serious…ha…
if you don’t…you’ll be fighting in a landfill to find food to feed your kid…like in the “third world.”
I survive all that you witness because I am of a higher order. Understand that you cannot understand everything, and simply choose to listen to reason and logic.
Or (don’t take this the wrong way) you will go screw yourself…
notice i didn’t tell you to screw yourself, I indicated that if you do not listen and follow me you will be screwing yourself.
big difference, there, my fellow human.
join me.
excuse my typo. synonomous is meant to be synonymous. my apologies. must be that i am from a poor state-run college…
(oh, by the way, the idiot in charge of that college is Mitch Daniels, so, what do we really expect, eh?)
You know what, enough bickering…
Let’s get on to what LJ really says:
“Vote for Clinton or be afraid of terrorism.”
It’s in the text, “that dog don’t hunt.”
Bullshit. A vote for Obama is not a vote for terrorism.
Again, sorry to defy my friend Chris, but, Larry Johnson IS an idiot.
He is an American terrorist and an idiot spewing propagandized bullshit designed to elicit fear-based control.
It is the same message that the citizenry fell for when it elected George Bush president.
Now, I have a meeting with the leading defense and economic analysts in the world.
But, before I go…Larry Johnson is an idiot. He is not stupid.
Idiotic is carrying out (continuing) a plan that will result in the collapse of the American way of life on the pretense of carrying on the American way of life.
Bigger things are going on, friends…go along with them, be fooled, but even worse, be a witness to economic collapse.
Listen to me as I expouse propaganda, and be freed from collapse. There is a reason to listen to those that ought to be listened to.
Two simple choices. Right, and, wrong.
Hope you’ve been paying attention.
I love my people. I do this, at high risk to my own safety, for you all.
“I love my people”
doesn’t seem like it. seems like you gloat and brag. You are quite full of your own shit frankly. And you project a lot of shit at the same time. And sorry to burst your bubble, but you don’t really say much of worth, you simply degrade yourself when you sell out to simplistic comments like “is an idiot”.
You erect strawmen comments: ““Vote for Clinton or be afraid of terrorism.”
because you don’t have the intellectual honest to deal with his comments without simply mocking yourself.
I’m sorry you can’t rise to the occasion, maybe in time, Time will teach you where you missed the mark.
Point at Larry J all you want, but it is you that has work to do.
You talk with Messianic tones that would make Narcissus moan.
And you didn’t defy a friend, you haven’t been a friend to defy.
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/03/29/the-wrong-nigga-to-fuck-wit-dilemma-for-barack/
larry johnson, in this case, proves that, in the case of “chris,” it is possible that, “you can fool some of the people all of the time.”
larry johnson is a bigot, racist (unintentionally), and is continuing to push for a Mccain led White House.
Several commenters have seen this as fact, because, simply, it is fact.
Review the comments, be very open minded, and between the lines you will read that Mr. Johnson is a spy in the ranks of the Democratic party.
I am not sure why, “Chris,” you are so convicted, with your support for and admiration of this man, but I assure you, from reading what you have written, you are being led astray.
God I am not, but in your case, might as well be.
I have erected no strawman argument, I have reduced Johnson’s comments to barebones brevity, and that is what you see.
You see Johnson claiming that Obama is not only aligned with rap music (do i need to explain how offbase this distraction is?) but that Clinton is the only hope for the democratic party, in that Obama will allow terrorism.
Why? Because Mccain has a better chance of beating Clinton, as Bush did beating Kerry, than he does of beating Obama.
A (republican) wolf in (democratic) sheep’s clothing.
Take notice. See the fear message coming from the elite (forget party, party is used only to distract the general population from the real elite) and recognize it. It demonstrates that not only is Obama electable, the elite fear his electability enough to attempt to install Clinton as the opposition.
Even Mrs. Clinton, once made aware that she can only hope to beat Obama by being installed by the elite, my very well choose to bow out and join Obama as he attempts to defeat the elite.
I know Mrs. Clinton. She does not want to win in that manner. When she sees that is what is happening, you will see her withdraw and support the Obama/Kerry ticket fully.
End of Message.
“I have erected no strawman argument, I have reduced Johnson’s comments to barebones brevity,”
That is exactly what you did, even now by the admission of your own words. You reduced them from other posts, other conclusions to your own conclusion and made them appear as LJ’s words.
And second, you assume much about my sentiments and motivations, which tells me much about your motivations.
I have not been led anywhere, and your efforts to project really say more about your own pathology than my loyalties. Your major projection is that I have a ‘leader’ as implied by “led astray”. This assumes much based on your views, not mine. Larry Johnson doesn’t lead me, nor does this conversation.
And I already dealt with my criticisms of LJ’s view here up top, but since you have no interest in the concept of fair witness I wouldn’t expect you to see it.
At this point you are now simply trolling. I’ve engaged your conversation straight on respectfully and you are now baiting. You have made comments about my kids, what you think my kids do and how I should respond, and where my loyalties might be, and implied I have no direction of my own. This is all more about your view of the world than the one I live in.
Your comments reflect very little outside your bubble of influence. It will be my regret that you did not engage the conversation with some integrity and openness. Enjoy your joke.
I think this is more a case of Larry being an Idiot than being a Racist. But I guess he could also be considered a Racist Idiot in certain circles.
Tactics from Obama’s camp and certain supporters:
play the “white racism” card; play with those feeling “white guilt”.
We have seen these tactics played before by Obama’s campaign over and over in SC and MS. They are desperate again because of Obama’s excuses for his life-long disgraceful relationship with Jeremiah Wright are not working with the GE.
So here we go again into PA. Recall Obama’s call to Rendell … See the pattern.
Sean Wilentz explains once again Obama camp’s playing the race card. This time in the Philly Inquirer.
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/17133626.html
this is the stupidest post i’ve ever read.
Nothing but grasping at straws to portray Barack Obama as a colleague and fellow traveller with Ice Cube? Who left the gansta rap world for family movies in Hollywood?
That’s just dumb. This is a joke right? Cus there’s no way this is serious.
sorry, but actually you are concluding that LJ says Barack and Ice Cube are “fellow” travellers…he didn’t say that. He says Jeremiah Wright and Barack are fellow travellers, and that what Wright says has precedent. If you want to criticize him after that, fine, but at least keep the context what it is, or you’ll be arguing against your own thoughts not that of LJ.
And strange as it may seem, I watched Ice Cube in XXX: The State of the Union last night as this thread went viral. Kind of Ironic.
Larry isn’t an idiot - he’s far too educated than that. But he is ignorant. And willing to say anything if he thinks it will lead to even one more person to hate Obama.
the metaphor here is so thin it is pathetic.
There’s no “metaphor” intended here: It’s just reality, and it bites for Obama, as he will discover in November if he is the nominee:
who exactly said they only regretted not planting more bombs?
I don’t see this quote as being anyone but Johnson’s.
Where did Johnson want those bombs planted.
as I said earlier, johnson is a terrorist.
That would be William Ayers in his New York Times interview, ironically, September 11, 2001

Get over it.
This is not 1960.
A contemporary “Authentic Black Man” is privleged and intelligant, and able to lead this country as we, the people, seek to take it back from the elite like Johnson/Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney.
Enough hate. Enough war. Enough killing.
Elect Obama for real change.
that’s all there is to that. The elite is proving it for you. all you need to is recognize what you are seeing to see the proof.
Johnson is wrong, as are the rest of his elite cronies.
He’s not an idiot, not a bigot, not a racist, not a democrat, not a republican, not ignorant, none of that.
He is in the “in-crowd” of the elite.
How do you think you get to be in his shoes in this administration (think of his titles and roles)?
C’mon. Reality check, folks.
sure, chris, i get it.
Obama’s pastor is Jeremiah Wright, who has said critical things about the US.
Ice Cube, noted former gangsta rapper has ALSO said critical things about the US, so clearly he’s an analog for Wright. Thus by remaining at Trinity, Barack Obama is a fellow traveller with wright, and thus Cube.
Of course, this makes every Catholic who remains a member of the church an apologist for child molestation, but hey since we’re scoring cheap political shots, why not go all the way?
Chris needs a lot of help…
he misconstrues nearly everything…
you were clear the first time to an average person (hey, i just called myself average) well, anyways…to me you were clear…
very true sentiment.
Funny, but that’s precisely the flawed logic that most of the complaints regarding Obama remaining in Wright’s church for 20 years used. “He has to agree otherwise he’d have left”.
These situations, this election, this candidacy regardless of your choice needs and deserves deeper analysis and critical thinking than that.
Unfortunately, I’ve seen and heard far too many supporters on both sides of the fence do anything but display critical thinking or logic.
The latin name for the logical fallacy contained herein eludes me, but the english translation is simple: unalloyed bigotry.
Once upon a time, in a land far, far from here, I had some respect for Mr. Johnson — as an analyst and a blogger. No more.
This post, this miasmic blurring of gansta rap lyrics and film scenes with the presidential candidacy of Barack Obama, has no purpose but to excite racial animus.
It is grievously sad that so many of Hilary Clinton’s supporters, Mr Johnson included, would have bigotry decide our fate in ‘08.
Larry — I think you forgot to include your central point, which is that the Obama’s new preacher — Moss — quoted Ice Cube and his rap “Wrong Nigga to Fuck wit” in his Easter service. You need to put that in there, otherwise this doesn’t make sense and makes you look racist.
WTF does a privileged white guy from the CIA know about the black experience anyway? I mean, other than making sure crack made it into South Central LA?
Wow this thread really got the koolaid fountain flowing. I understood the original post, and as a commenter pointed out, Rev. Moss quoted Ice Cube and his rap “Wrong Nigga to Fuck wit” in his Easter service. But the kneejerk commenters aren’t acknowledging that.
I love that someone posted that Larry was a ‘white person with a privileged background’, what exactly does that person know of his background? And why would commenters here believe that Obama would know shit about the “black experience” or having a tough life? He grew up in Hawaii, went to prestigious schools as a child. Hawaii has always been a multi-racial environment. He then went to Indonesia where he also went to a private school. Then he went to Harvard. His father is of a mixed race, and his mother is white. So, I’m trying to figure why people are trying to give him some black street cred. It’s a ludicrous story that people are writing for him, and it’s just not true.
The title sounds like a a stage direction pertaining to an interaction btw two potential posters here: “WrongNigga to FuckWit:”
ok now this is a serious issue
so thank heavens someone like you came along to shed a bit (ok a LOT) of humor on it.
in other words LOL!!!
Here’s somebody woho speaks a lot like Larry Johnson. They seem to have a similar point of view
“
If it looks like racist and talks like a racist it must be Larry C. Johnson
I think you got your black Ice’s confused, Ice T is on Law and Order Special Victim’s Unit.
“Vital role” does not equate to making a direct mold.
I credit Nixon for teaching me how to not tape affairs in my office I really expect to remain unknown.
Doesn’t mean, just ’cause I learned something from him, that I am exactly like him, does it?
Perhaps I (in this example, or Obama, case in point) am smart enough to not only learn the good, but to acknowledge the wrong, and learn from that as well. In fact, the only real way to learn how not to want to be “something/anything” is to see how that “thing” works and learn from it…
For my money, that influence is a great source of wisdom…or at very least, could be…
Who here stands for every single thing their preacher stands for?
GOOD TO SEE HILLARY AND BILL’S RACE-BAiting catching on so nicely.
Obama’s preacher is so bad that Bill Clinton invited him the the white house after he got caught lying about not fucking that woman Monica. Well, he did fuck her in the mouth, in the oval office no less, and while Hillary was in the house. And so Bill called on Obama’s preacher to come to the WH to forgive him for his sins.
Who are Hillary and Larry going to call to help them obtain forgiveness for their race-baiting and racial dividing?
“There is no denying that rap and hip hop have enjoyed commercial success. But success does not mean it is widely accepted. It ain’t mainstream.”
Huh?
That makes no sense:
No, not mainstream at all…
who you say supplyin’ crack heads wit they dope in hell-ay, esay?
you think government money found its way into the hands of surenos on its very own, with no help?
now if you ask me…either A. the government doesn’t know what is going on, and should be cleansed, or, B. the government does know what is going on, and should be cleansed.
so, which will it be?
Larry,
I’ve read you carefully for quite some time, and have been grateful to you as a patriot and as an activist. I’ve cited you as an authority and pointed people to your work many times.
That’s why I’ll be taking some time to respond to this. You brought up so many things in your post, it will be hard to address them all, but I’ll try.
I think there are all kinds of well-taken angles from which to argue that Obama is not the best candidate for president now. I’m not sure I read any of them here.
Others in this thread have touched upon (thank you Bruce) the problems with analyzing class and race by Hollywood stereotype. I also am not sure how you derived “authentically black” to mean poor, uneducated, and somehow violent. (Was MLK Jr. “inauthentic”? Is Condi Rice “inauthentic”?)
Obama is biracial, and he has always sought the more difficult path of walking effectively and respectfully in many circles–white and black, poor and not-poor. It has been hard for him.
When he was in the Illinois legislature, he was viewed with suspicion because he worked so easily with white Republicans to get changes enacted. Earlier, when Obama found direction in his passion for service, and sought to put his privilege to use addressing some of the suffering he saw in the streets of Chicago, he found he could not do so while he was perceived as an outsider.
And an outsider he was. As you said, though he had a dead father and largely absent mother, and though his family was not wealthy and nothing was handed to him (he was not a “legacy” admittance to Yale with a C average), compared to many, he was indeed “privileged.” His education, and his upbringing in a traditional white household, did set him apart from the group of people he wanted to connect with and serve.
Many black churches would have offered an opportunity for Obama fulfill his personal need for belonging in an African American circle, but the UCC congregation he joined offered a unique inroad to the struggling urban poor through its extensive social programs, and an way for him to become known and trusted among the most needy and struggling people in the Chicago black community, with whom he hoped to work.
With regard to Reverend Wright, he has never advocated revenge or violence, and in this, his words cannot be compared to the rap lyrics you quoted so extensively. Wright has never argued that blacks are somehow racially superior or should have the power to systemically disenfranchise others. In this, Wright’s statements can’t be compared to those of white separatists, either.
That said, I can’t think of anything further from Obama’s core outlook than the obvious bitterness, paranoia and even delusion that comes out in some of Wright’s sermons. Obama fiercely distanced himself from those sentiments. But, like Clinton’s minister Dean Snyder, Huckabee and McCain in their statements regarding Wright, Obama views Wright’s outbursts in the context of a history of pain, and weighs his rhetoric against his good works, which are legion.
Wright’s statements can also be understood as criticisms of systems of (white) power, not attacks on everyday white citizens. They can be viewed in the context of the often more insidious material (more dangerous because it has more institutional power) that comes from right wing white ministers, some of whom the Clintons, for example, are very close to.
We can go on for months analyzing Wright, or feverishly drawing ties, however thin, between Obama and controversial figures he has worked with in seeking the greater good.
But if, indeed, we are to judge Obama’s candidacy by the “scumbags I’ve hung with” metric, it’s only fair to apply the same measure to the Clintons, Hillary being the only remaining Democratic choice.
The Clintons did overturn the criminal convictions of a long list of thugs and hoodlums. What does that say about the Clintons’ associations, and their impact on governance?
(You must already realize that the length and contents of that list, overlooked largely in the wake of the Lewinsky scandal, will be one of the first lines of attack from the right if Clinton is the nominee, and it will be viewed by the voters afresh.)
All that said, I’d like to see the candidates evaluated on their performance in the Senate, their votes, their suggested policies, and their projected solutions. It troubles me that nobody paid attention to the substantial speeches on the state of Iraq and the economy that Obama gave immediately after his “race speech,” which was given only in response to the Wright scandal.
Perhaps, someday, we can have an election about ideas and solutions, rather than fear, division, and diversion. I personally would like my Constitution back, for starters. And I know McCain won’t help.
It has been hard for him.
and? Do I care? It was not so hard to suck up to Rezko or anyone else this piece of ivy encountered
Thanks for your calm thoughtful post.
Perhaps, someday, we can have an election about ideas and solutions, rather than fear, division, and diversion. I personally would like my Constitution back, for starters.
Check the odds in Vegas on getting it back?
I don’t know what-all Obama knew about Rezko when he had dealings with him. I know that Obama had nothing to do with any of the shady things Rezko did.
But perhaps you can point me toward a candidate that has never, ever, had any working association with a scumbag?
Honestly….I Don’t Think That OBAMA “FIERCELY
DISTANCED HIMSELF” from Pastor Wright…not by a long shot…He Spead enough Frosting around in the hope the media felt He had made the cake Sweet enough to swallow..
I think Oama went to CHICAGO..(Talk about Gangster Land)..
and to this Church in Particular just so he could find a Group and Cause
that would help Obama be Able to Find ways to seek out His “ROOTS” and “BOND” with his Father and his fathers political Ideology and Activity in Kenya..
Look How Obama Played the Game ever since he got there..Look how He made a name for himself..Look how
He got elected..look how the competetion got..
“ELIMINATED”…Drive By Phone Calls..
You Really believe Obama and His friends are really a bunch of Social Working “HAPPY FACES”..taking baskets of food to the Needy..??
Obama has not even come close to beginning a real debate on Race issues..Or Fiercly denouncing Pastor Wright for His WRONG…….RACISTS ….RANTS..
and he should be ashamed to call himself a Minister
of the “GOSPEL” of Jesus ..or even of the Bible..or even of the Ten commandments..”LOVE YOUR NIEGHBOR”
Obama has not even come close to Fiercely denouncing the Hate Rants of the ICE CUBES out there…who talks about taking His “SawedOff” Or A of K (AK Assault Rifle”) jamming in a 30 round Clip and Killing Uncle Sam..( A White Person laying on a Slab with the American Flag drapped over him..and Ice Cube standing next to HIM.
That MIND Set is what Pastor Wright seems to share..
You say wrights attacks are Against the SYSTEM..(of White Power) but NOt against White People..What Kind of Double talk ..lame excuse making is that..
You say The ICE CUBES and pastor Wrights Racist Rants and hate filled Comments “DON”T” Compare to White Supremists..or White Seperatists..??
They are WORSE..and what you said is a Flat Out Lie..
Look at the Lyrics Larry Quote Above..Look at Ice Cubes other Lyrics on his PREDATOR Albumn..Look at the Frenzy of the people behind Pastor Wright while He is Talking about The USKKK of A..and that 9/11 was a Payback..
Hillary Clinton was not President..during those pardons..Lets wait and see who your Boy..Obama Pardons if He gets elected…
You say..Evaluate the Candidates performance in the
SENATE….OObama Has no Record..No show..No Vote..
CASE MADE..HILLARY WINS..
Oh..and for someone who is so Concerned about the CONSTITUTION..It Says in its Preamble..”WE, THE PEOPLE, IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION”..
you have just put another nail in it with you own
HAMMER..
Thank God there are a Majority of Good decent People in America of ALL COLOR…willing to Stand Up for Hillery and denounce the ICE CUBES and Pastor Wright who Spew hatred and racism..and Violence..and are DIVIDING Our nation..NOT Uniting it..
All I Know is..Those have been Obamas Homies..and Obama has alot to learn about TRUTH & TRUST..
I said Obama distanced himself from Wright’s negative SENTIMENTS. Did you actually hear Obama’s speech?
“able to Find ways to seek out His “ROOTS” and “BOND” with his Father and his fathers political Ideology and Activity in Kenya..”
What political ideology and activity in Kenya? His father was long dead, and Obama hardly knew him. Obama sought to help the poor in the streets of Chicago, and to connect with other African Americans.
“Look How Obama Played the Game ever since he got there..Look how He made a name for himself..Look how. He got elected..look how the competetion got..
“ELIMINATED”…Drive By Phone Calls..”
Um, what is a “drive by phone call?” What proven connection is there to Obama? What ‘competition’ got ‘eliminated’? Is there a real person, or any verifiable fact in this “scary black guy” narrative of yours?
““SawedOff” Or A of K (AK Assault Rifle”) jamming in a 30 round Clip and Killing Uncle Sam..( A White Person laying on a Slab with the American Flag drapped over him..and Ice Cube standing next to HIM. That MIND Set is what Pastor Wright seems to share..”
Um, show me where Wright advocates violence.
“He is Talking about The USKKK of A..and that 9/11 was a Payback..”
“Obama has not even come close to Fiercely denouncing the Hate Rants of the ICE CUBES out there”
Why should Obama be responsible for things rappers say? What the hell are you talking about? What relationship does Obama have with Ice Cube?
Wright was talking about 9/11 being a result of what is called, in the 9/11 Commission Report, “blowback.” “Blowback” is a standard part of this government’s analysis of the attack.
“Hillary Clinton was not President..during those pardons”
She can’t take credit for “experience” as first lady, but refuse to share in the responsibility of huge decisions that were made, if indeed she was
her husband’s “most trusted advisor.” The Clintons had intimate dealings with DOZENS of CONVICTED criminals, and then got them off (why else release these simebags, if the Clintons didn’t owe them something?). How does anything Obama has done remotely compare?
Why should Obama have to speak to or apologize for things rap artists say? Because he has a Kenyan father he’s responsible for American rap music?
Now wait a second. Not ALL his competition got eliminated. He let Alan Keyes stay. Of course a cockroach could beat Alan Keyes.
[...] poses significant challenges for him should he be the Democratic nominee for President. My piece, The “Wrong Nigga to Fuck Wit” Dilemma for Barack, was inspired by Barack’s new pastor, Otis [...]
“My piece, The “Wrong Nigga to Fuck Wit” Dilemma for Barack, was inspired by Barack’s new pastor, Otis […]”
That’s interesting, it would have helped if you’d used an actual quote from Otis, or an incident that could help the reader understand how Otis is relevant to your argument. You mention him in passing exactly once.
gosh darn. those nasty black preachers with their damning america and those hateful black gangsta rappers with their cursing and sexist lyrics. yay for men like eminem who come along to show them the proper way…
This creature, Larry Johnson, is a snake and an enemy of the left.
He is, without doubt, an insidious Republican shill. No liberal person should ever be taken in again by this creep after hearing that he was responsible for the release of the video that is now making life hell for Randi Rhodes.
Larry, your time is coming!
As far as black racist songs, us old school crackers still get a kick out of Garrett Morris’ tune from the ’70s SNL:
I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whiteys I see,
I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whiteys I see,
If I kill all the whiteys I see,
Then whitey he won’t bother me,
I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whiteys I see.
This is the one of the most hilarious blogs ever especially since Barack Obama will be President soon. The underlying racism stinks here and it makes me sad. However, I still respect freedom of speech and I love my fellow man. Obama ‘08 baby.
