Sunday ‘Toon + Politics Texas-Style (make that Obama-Style)

BELOW: You’ll see videos of probable illegal and unethical shenanigans by Obama surrogates and supporters at the Texas conventions this weekend. FIRST, a Sunday funny:

No fiery Sunday sermons here, no sirree! Here, you can even let your children come to listen! (Well, this morning anyway. And not counting Larry’s post last night, or Larry’s all-time great rant against DailyObama that elicited 389 comments.)

‘course, Barack and Michelle thought it was alright for their beautiful little girls to hear Rev. Wright’s hate-filled, anti-American sermons. To each his own, right?

NEXT UP, the MESS IN TEXAS:

::::::::::::::

It’s hard to keep track of all the stories coming out of Texas on illegalities, improprieties, and just plain ugliness.

One of the most popular videos being circulated is by Kim Frederick, who has 13 more videos posted at YouTube. In this video, Kim is recording what she purports to be a call from an Obama supporter who is trying to confuse her about her status as a delegate for Hillary Clinton:

Here, Kim is recording the intimidation of a credentials committee by Obama supporters:

I haven’t watched the rest of Kim’s recordings. There are 12 more. If you have time, check her videos.

Here are some more videos that are coming in to my Inbox:

Texas Convention Senate District 15

“Starring Ken Yarborough and Senator John Whitmire. In Texas, you cannot start the convention until the credentials committee has heard all challenges and issues. At this SD…they shut down the credentials committee, used the temp roll as the permanent roll and moved forward. Problem is…I had 5 people who were left off the roster who should have been on there…the committee never heard my issue because they just used the temp rolls and didn’t hear issues or challenges. It may seem there was a Hillary person there arguing with me…but I think he was for Obama and was just wearing a sticker because I was videotaping. Many people wanted to just not follow the rules because they didn’t want to be there till 4am or do this on another day. Ken and John later told me they were afraid people would leave or the crowd would not be able to be controlled if we didn’t start the convention. I wonder what campaign they were afraid of.”

“They shut the credentials committee down…no issues or challenges were heard…they moved to make the temporary roll the permanent roll, thereby wiping out a lot of Hillary delegates that were “mistakenly” not on the sign in sheets.”

Complete Disorganization at Texas Caucus Possible Fraud?.” That page links to a number of videos purporting to show both disorganization and fraud.

:::::::::::::::

Besides the numerous illustrations of improper and probable illegal behavior by Obama supporters, I believe this shows why the CAUCUS SYSTEM is a bad joke.

One problem with the caucus system is that it relies on amateurs — who are usually poorly trained, if they are trained at all — to ensure that all of the rules are followed. Further, most caucus sites are undermanned.

When we have elections by ballot, we have non-partisan, taxpayer-paid election officials who, with rare exception, follow the rules and practices that they are trained to use.

After the 2000 election, my county went to an all-absentee ballot system, just like the one that the state of Oregon uses. My county made the switch to save money.

I am amused when I read concerns about possible illegalities occurring with an all-absentee system. We have strongly partisan Republicans and Democrats in this county, and if there were ever any impropriety, or questionable results, those partisans would be screaming to the local newspaper and radio station, and crowding the county commissioners’ meetings. There’s never been a problem. The all-absentee system works. Everyone’s vote gets counted. No one has to devote hours out of a day in order to vote. Every voter can simply follow the instructions on the absentee ballot, slap a stamp on the envelope, mail the envelope, and their vote is counted. Nothing could be simpler, or more fair.

My two cents.

I just wish that the state Democrats favored a fair and impartial system instead of holding on to the presidential primary caucus system that disenfranchises so many people, and provides too many opportunities for rules to be broken and votes not to be counted fairly. Even in my county, we have to hold caucuses for the presidential primaries. It would be so much simpler if our highly professional county employees could instead receive and tally our absentee ballots for the presidential primaries, just as they do for every other local, county and state election.

Oh yeah, this is why caucuses are MUCH fairer and MUCH more Democratic than, say, a PRIMARY, where people just go and vote and delegates are apportioned based on the POPULAR VOTE.

Christ, this is ridiculous. Caucuses are clearly all about manipulating the outcome, disenfranchising groups you really don’t want to vote, and totally screwing with the process.

If you really care about Democracy, demand that the Democratic National Committee require all states which desire representation at the 2012 convention to use PRIMARIES, PERIOD. No Iowa Caucuses- if the people of Iowa want to get together in private homes and schools and halls to discuss politics in the middle of the winter, go for it- but when they are ready to select delegates, they’ll hold a primary. No Casino Caucuses. No BS Primary-Caucus Hybrids like this Texas bullshit- Hillary won the state, but she didn’t really “win” it? BULLSHIT!!

We have a secret ballot in this country. We don’t set up flaming hoops for people to jump through in order to register their preference. And we shouldn’t tolerate this kind of manipulation of the process.

The DNC must tell all states for 2012: Want to send delegates to the convention? Hold a PRIMARY.

Oh, and show us right now that the DNC cares about Everyone’s vote- SEAT MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA.

You nailed it.

Caucuses have no place in a democracy period, they are undemocratic.

Hi, Susan:

Interesting choice of words (”You’ll see video proof of the illegal and unethical shenanigans by Obama surrogates and supporters at the Texas conventions this weekend.”) to begin the article with. If this is true, then I assume that an official investigation has begun. However, I haven’t seen any mention of this anywhere. It would rank right up there with McCain’s conflict of perception with the FEC over campaign funds, no?

Comment by Todd Nash | 2008-03-30 12:45:08

I was there. And in Tx there’s an uproar over this. Challenges and investigations are underway as we speak

Comment by mongo | 2008-03-30 14:21:46

I note now that the wording has been changed to a more circumspect p-word (”probable”). :-)

Passion and rhetoric are important and traditional components of politics, but so are reason and a dispassionate review of the facts.

The caucus system is a carryover from the days when these parts were referred to as the colonies, in reflection of the parliamentary system. As dysfunctional as it is, replacing it with a remote-control vote-by-mail takes some of the humanity and community out of the process.

Not everyone is willing to make up for that loss with an exchange of views in a forum like this one.

Let’s add my 2 cents to your 2 cents and a little common sense and get this whole primary election thing fixed.

Mail in absentee ballots are the best idea for a fair election. Caucuses stink up the process and disenfranchise voters. We know that. But some are for caucuses if they think it benefits their candidate. Just like the people that are so very concerned about the roolz allowing voters from two states to be disenfranchised if it benefits their candidate.

Seems to me that there are a whole lot of “progressives” that talk just like Republicans when it suits them and when it benefits their candidate. Republicans attack Bill Clinton and the Clinton years and so does Obama and his Obamatrons.

This election has been very eye-opening in many ways. And none of them are flattering to the Democratic Party. But then it’s hard to flatter the bunch in Washington that won an election in 2006 and have been acting like they lost ever since.

By the way, those chattering little birds remind me of the Sunday Morning Talk Shows. With the birds of course having the edge in credibility, common sense and I.Q.

Ahhh … ya know, I still love you guys but when are you going to stop this? The deal IS closed. It’s over. You can keep this battle going until August, but to what end?

OK … I’ll go now … but I’ll be back later …

Comment by John | 2008-03-30 11:30:39

Please feel free to forget to come back. Or at least, if you do decide to come back, come back with SOMETHING TO SAY other than “nahh nahh, its all over, you lost you losers.”

Oh and the “love” you have for us? Speaking just for myself of course: It isn’t mutual. Go blow it out your ass.

Comment by Radagast | 2008-03-30 13:38:33

Now Now John. I know you’re upset but there will be another day. I’m not going to go back over Hillary’s trangressions because it doesn’t matter anymore. If she were the nominee, I would vote for her. However, that’s not going to be the case. Going over why Obama should not be the nominee is equally pointless but carry on if you must.

It’s time to start putting the Party back together, if you are a Democrat, or going to join John McCain. At the end of your angry ranting, those are your choices.

Ummmm is it the end of August already and the delegates from all 50 States been seated and all Democrats voices been heard yet?

Humph wish I had your time machine!

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-03-30 15:42:54

Well I’m a liberal Independent so I don’t have to support the Party. Don’t have to go for McCain either. My choice if Obama is the nominee will be to write in Hillary Clinton and vote for the Democrats down ticket that support the things I believe in. It’s called having a mind of one’s own.

My guess is that by the time the smoke clears and this primary season is over the Democratic Party will be in big trouble. Because Democrats, I was one for 39 years, don’t like disenfranchising voters, we don’t like the fact that the DNC has shown favoritism, we don’t like the hit job that media has done on Hillary and Bill Clinton, and we don’t like the whole nasty, arrogant tone of the Obama campaign.

So enjoy your gloating while you can. Only a short time ago the Democrats were laughing that the Republican Party was falling apart and John McCain was done.

Now it would appear that the Democratic Party is falling apart. And all the kings horses and all the kings men…

Comment by mimi | 2008-03-30 16:40:06

I don’t know about other people on this blog and I don’t know you. But let me make myself perfectly clear:

I am not voting for Barack Obama.

I am leaving the Democratic Party.

And there’s a good bet I will be voting for McCain, depending how close the election is in my blue state.

Have a blast in August. I will be doing more important things like vacationing, visiting with friends and family, reading, and enjoying my other hobbies and all the new ones I will be getting into since I will no longer be watching Network News and Political Talk Shows. (Advertisers please take note.)

If Obama wins the nomination the Party is dead to me!

And through all of this, America lays claims to being THE example of freedom and choice throughout the world?

Aside from gunshot noises and fires, you would think these were videos taken in some dictatorship country and America would be crying out for sanctions and redo’s and have the leadership step down!

Oh shit forgot Dean is a dictator, or wanna be dictator!

Question becomes, someone had to instruct the people to act and conduct things in this fashion to maximize their outcome at these caucus’s, so why is it the delegation who is breaking rules isn’t sanctioned like Michigan and Florida were?

Dean, rules are rules and rules were broken, thus enforce the rules you claim to defend so much!

Comment by cassie | 2008-03-30 11:42:19

Sure it’s “over” for one - Especially when he wants to count only 48 states and there are 10 more left to express their support of one or the other - let’s see, 10 of 50 works out to 20% of the states!

It’s just the 7th inning stretch and we’ll see how much Wrightgate hurt Obama if not in PA for sure in NC!

If it is locked up, why can’t he close it out?

Comment by John | 2008-03-30 11:42:26

Hey, this worked great for the Bolsheviks and the Fascists, not to mention the pro-slavery delegates at the LeCompton Constitution, why not the Obamabots?

“We’re here, lock the doors so we can make up the rules as we go along. You are a Hillary supporter? Why are you holding your camera like that? We are the future- can’t you tell from our tie-dyed t-shirts and earnestness? Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to do ‘whatever we can’ to manipulate this process to favor our candidate. Democracy? How quaint. There’s the door. It’s over.”

1. I never knew caucuses were so disorganized. This makes Diebold machines look fair. Not really, but you get mu point.

2. I love Larry’s Feb. 14th rant about the orange site. I had not read that before. That was written when I was still in my depression about the way the primary was going stage. This stage was right after Super Tuesday and Hilalry won, yet the media acted like she lost. So I tuned all all media. It was soon after that though that found No Quarter some how and Larry and Susan and all the others gave me hope again.

GREAT RANT !!!!!!

Here ya go….

http://www.star-telegram.com/news/story/552303.html

District 9: Arlington

By the end of the day, few people were not questioning the way Texas elects its delegates.

In Arlington, delegates were still signing in two hours after the convention was scheduled to begin. Confusion reigned. People didn’t know which line to stand in, where to go or what to do.

Frenzied volunteers spent the day fielding questions and giving directions. Some delegates gave up and left. Others chugged coffee or water while expressing dismay at the state’s electoral system.

“There’s a definite learning curve,” said Shauna Kirland, an Obama supporter from Mansfield. “I wanted to make my vote count, but this is a very frustrating, unorganized process.”

Just before 5 p.m., eight hours after people began arriving, precincts finally began meeting to elect delegates.

The air conditioning at Tarrant County College’s Southeast Campus automatically shut off at 5. Half an hour later, people were fanning themselves and taking off sweaters and suit jackets.

When people shouted and urged the organizers to move faster, Marvin Sutton, the District 9 chairman, urged patience.

“We want the will of the voters to prevail,” Sutton told delegates.

Detra G. Carmichael of Arlington walked to the front during one delay.

“What can we do to make sure this never happens again?” she said. “We’ve been here since the early morning, and we’re still waiting.”

The crowd, exhausted, cheered.

Officials said Saturday night that they didn’t know how many of the 59 delegates that the district will send to the state convention will be for Obama or Clinton. But final results showed that 490 of the delegates at the district convention were for Obama; 164 were for Clinton.

Dean and the DNC are Frauds..no caucus represents we the people!

It is a fraud against the people and it was used by Dean and company to manipulate our election process!

we must stop this caucus process it is a fraud..

we must have one person one vote to have legitimate elections and where are all the people who screamed for Voter Verifed Paper Ballots , when Florida is the only state that guarenteed that for the 2008 election!

Seems many of them were frauds as well..

Because that is what Florida is being punished for ..getting the bill passed by citizens of Florida , and the republican state congress tagging an amendment onto that bill by the republican Fl state congress.

There wasn’t a dem in our state congress that could vote against that bill, and Howard Dean knows that damn well..but just after that bill was signed Dean started trying to push Fla into a caucus..that was last May so he knew damn well how the DNC under his rule was going to steal this primary and election.

If we allow this to stand as a people ..we can get down and kiss democracy good bye.

By the way..the citizens who got that bill through the state legislature have been given the higest award the FLA ACLU gives out..it has gone to Governors who fought for civil rights, and state supreme court justices..

But it is Howard dean that punished us for doing the impossible..getting the voting machines thrown out before the 2008 election..makes one wonder..

but not me anymore..we do have our own neo cons in our own party , and they are showing themselves now!!

Take note of them please!!

Great Cartoon !!

Kim Frdericks videos are incredible… Should read what she writes on the side since the audio is understandably quite noisy. It is hard to believe
that in the 21st century, in the United States, we have
in a state like Texas, this charade confused for a
a democratic process. Way to choose a nominee.
What is the most depressing is to see the people in those videos, ordinary citizens happily playing dirty
with their own neighbors. Can you imagine what such a group would do to the rest of us if they had “more” power?

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-30 13:00:51

What is the difference between the Obama supporters
knowing and gladly betraying the rules to their end (and in turn the whole Democratic party) and what
Republicans have done in the past in FL 2000 or
OH 2004 ?

I see none; though that Obama supporters do this to other Democrats is ; imo much worse.

I want absolutely nothing to do with these people. They couldn’t be farther than who I am.

The bird was wonderful - and - I LOVE Kim Fredericks.

Millions of kudos to Kim!

I especially love the phone call video. As I watched the beginning I saw this confused weak young woman being pushed around. I kept saying “what”, “what are you doing?” as she seemed to hand over her power and her vote.
Then came the smile. And she transformed into the strong savvy courageous that she really is. (Shades of Hillary and all her supporters?)
I love strong women who stand up for themselves and the right thing this way.
Makes me feel safer knowing she is out there working on this.
I wonder what else we can do to bring it public attention. It’s an uphill battle with our media but it shows the true nature of his campaign and victories.
I also wonder if the Repubs have info on this and will use it.

Comment by Eric Hulsey | 2008-03-31 10:07:01

I just have to say that this was my first time to be completely involved in the political process.

I was a delegate for my senatorial convention in SD6. My precinct was 10 Hill and 10 Obama going into it so I knew there was going to be some kind of debate.

Well when it came down to this meeting (that was removed from the eye of our supervisor) they started it by asking who would be interested in going to the state convention. Well they had me and two others interested in it and then one reluctant one. Basically it came down that the reluctant one was the BO implant and they all voted for their one guy and wanted the division of the Hillary votes. I left there feeling like my part in the whole matter was destructive to the Clinton campaign and that I should never have gotten involved in politics. Its a shame that when I tried to voice my opinion I was shot down.

Comment by Kim Frederick | 2008-03-31 12:43:18

I am Kim Frederick. Please see all of the videos and circulate them to as many outlets as you can. I have a loud voice but need people like to you bolster it. Thank you guys for the support. I’m not sure if you are aware…but many Obama supporters (probably hired staff who scour videos and post outrageous comments all day) have threatened me in comments and emails. I had to disband the comment section they were getting so bad. There were many supportive ones, but the negative ones were just too much to handle. I am the product of a single working woman and paid my own way to college. I am a professional working woman with a career. I have never once been treated as poorly as I have because I posted videos of the truth. These tactics of intimidation, threats, and strong arming women who use their voice should be condemned by the candidate himself. He knows what they are doing to the superdelegates who support Hillary (women and people of color namely) and he hasn’t said a word. By not denouncing it, he supports this behavior. This is not the kind of candidate I want representing me or my future children. I implore all of you to get the word out. I wish I had more time and energy to spell out all of the shenanigans going on in this campaign, but frankly…I’m drained.

Why aren’t you talking about your cohart i>who tried to dismiss all of the Obama delegates in the adjecent precinct on phony grounds like signing the sign-in sheet with a nickname or evidence of an unregistered voter by a 3rd party internet sites not affiliated with the State of Texas.

Why did you try and entrap a random campaign worker into telling you to vote for Obama at the State Senatorial District 15 convention?

Hmmm, would it be because you are trying to create an aura of falsities that aren’t there?

Listen, your delegates are not the only ones who were contacted by the opposing party. I received a number of emails from the Clinton Campaign asking me to be sure and vote for Clinton at the convention. They made a mistake, pure and simple.

Why are you bent on twisting the truth?

I was at the county convention in TX… I KNOW there was flim-flam going on. It was blatant. No roll-calls (obama people shouted that down). No ID checking at the door. Just to name a few situations… The caucus system is a FARCE! But the most pathetic and saddest was how all the kool-aid crowd booed and glared at Shelia Jackson Lee when she stood to speak for THE PARTY!

Kim thanks for your efforts, I have read similiar accounts and I can’t agree with you more.

Get some rest, it appears you will need it.

It’s great you stopped by don’t be a stranger, k?

Adam…my 5 delegates that were not credentialed…did not get to sign in. This affected the outcome of the sign in sheet and at large delegates. Do you guys not understand that MANY people, NOT just my 5 delegates were not on the sign in sheet and didn’t get to sign in?! UGH! And yes, my Obama delegates did let my 5 delegates vote because they were fair…but I also let their uncredentialed alternate vote as well. Adam…you need to tell the truth…I was very fair with you guys that day, as were you guys. I didn’t have to tell you I was going to the credentials committee…I notified you because I wanted you to be there to witness that I wasn’t trying to “do” anything to your delegates. I would have wanted to be treated that way, and so that is why I notified you. Adam…my beef, so to speak, is not with my precinct or the delegates in my precinct. My beef is with the democratic party, the disorganization, the lack of leadership, and the lack of following the rules. Lauren…you still are not understanding the point that it was NOT just 15 challenges…those were the 15 FORMAL challenges. There were many issues that could not have been brought before Wednesday because they occurred on Saturday.

Adam, you know I know who you are, and you are misrepresenting the truth. I did not try to entrap the Obama guy. The only reason I called and taped it was because a different guy that talked to my partner 5 min earlier was OUTRAGEOUSLY lying to her. You guys will stop at nothing to elect this guy. I hope he isn’t anything like his constituents…but I’m starting to believe he is.

Adam…are you serious? I would but if it’s going to be a hot debate, I’m not interested. I posted my videos and my story. Somehow it got picked up by all these blogs. Obama people are free to post their own videos and stories as well. But I never signed up to argue with people. After the fight these caucuses have seemed to be…I’m worn out and really don’t have much fight left in me. So if you wanted to go grab a drink and get to know each other as neighbors and regular people, instead of people who support a candidate, I’d be happy to do that.

Kim
