About: Larry C. Johnson is a former analyst at the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, who moved subsequently in 1989 to the U.S. Department of State, where he served four years as the deputy director for transportation security, antiterrorism assistance training, and special operations in the State Department's Office of Counterterrorism. He left government service in October 1993 and set up a consulting business. He currently is the co-owner and CEO of BERG Associates, LLC (Business Exposure Reduction Group) and is an expert in the fields of terrorism, aviation security, and crisis and risk management, and money laundering investigations. Johnson is the founder and main author of No Quarter, a weblog that addresses issues of terrorism and intelligence and politics. NoQuarterUSA was nominated as Best Political Blog of 2008.[1] He has worked as a private consultant on issues of international terrorism and security for the U.S. Government and private companies. Johnson has appeared as a consultant and commentator in many major newspapers and news programs.[2]

[edit]Background
Larry Johnson moved to Washington, D.C. in 1979 to begin work on a Ph.D. at the American University. Although he completed successfully all coursework and comprehensive exams, he did not write a dissertation. In 1978 and in 1983-85 he worked in Latin America on community development projects as a community organizer. Returning to the United States in 1985 he joined the Central Intelligence Agency, thanks in part to a letter of recommendation from Republican Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) that helped to "open doors" for him at the Agency.[3] Johnson entered on duty at the CIA in September 1985 and was a classmate of Valerie Plame. Every member of that class was undercover. After a year in the Career Trainee program, which included a stint with the Afghan Task Force, Johnson was assigned as an analyst in the Middle America Caribbean Division in the Latin American Affairs Office of the Directorate of Intelligence. He received two Exceptional Performance awards and was promoted ultimately to Senior Regional Analyst for Central America.
Johnson remained undercover in the CIA until October 1989, when he resigned from the CIA and started a new job in the Office of Counter Terrorism at the Department of State. Johnson played an instrumental role in launching the Terrorism Rewards program international advertising campaign (working with Diplomatic Security officers Brad Smith and Michael Parks). [4] Johnson also was involved in a variety of crisis management response operations, including the release of hostages from Lebanon and liaison with the Pan Am 103 families. He left government service in October 1993 and started his own business as a consultant.
After leaving government service, Johnson became a frequent guest on many major television news shows when a question of terrorism came up. He was first interviewed by CNN following the capture of Carlos the Jackal. Johnson subsequently appeared on CNN, ABC's Nightline, CBS, the BBC, MSNBC, the Jim Lehrer News Hour, NBC, and NPR. In December of 1999, for example, Johnson was hired by NBC to serve as its terrorist expert for the Y2000 and was in Time Square with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric ("a lot of fun and the best way to see in the New Year"). Johnson also was hired in January 2002 as a Fox News Analyst and remained under contract until February 2003.
Since 1994 a significant focus of Johnson's consulting work has been with the U.S. military special operations forces in scripting and conducting military counter terrorism exercises. He traveled under orders from the U.S. military to Iraq in May 2006 to work on a short term project.
A registered Republican who supported President Bush in 2000, Johnson became a strong critic of the Bush administration in May 2003 for its conduct of the war in Iraq and, a few months later, for its role in the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame.[5] He was also featured in the 2004 political documentary Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism. Since Robert Novak's controversial disclosure of Valerie Plame as a CIA operative in July 2003, Johnson has contributed to public discourse on intelligence matters, often sparking further controversy. He has been interviewed by both the mass media and the alternative media and published commentaries on a variety of issues, including the Plame affair, the controversy concerning Mary McCarthy, and the resignation of Porter Goss as Director of Central Intelligence.

[edit]1996
In 1996, Johnson noted that terrorism worldwide was on the decline. "Terrorist incidents [both internationally and in the US] have fallen to levels not seen since the 1970s. Whether measured by the number of incidents, the number of fatalities, or the number of groups, raw statistics demonstrate that the level of terrorist violence has declined since the mid-1980s. In fact, the evidence suggests terrorism was more widespread and deadly 10 years ago."[6]
He also wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times suggesting that the newer and more deadly terrorist threat to the U.S. was embodied by "networks of terrorists, mostly foreign, working within its borders." Exemplifying this threat was Ramzi Yousef, one of the masterminds behind the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. In the article, Johnson suggests that enhanced cooperation between intelligence agencies, particularly the FBI and CIA, is mandatory to meet the growing threat of terror networks.[7]
[edit]1998
In 1998, Johnson argued that while overall terrorism was declining, the threat from bin Laden and al-Qaeda should be the focus of American counterterrorism policy:
The nature of the threat posed by Bin Ladin is highlighted by my final chart, number 7. Osama Bin Ladin and individuals associated with him have killed and wounded more Americans than any other group. This chart also illustrates that groups such as Hamas and the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) prior to 1998 have killed more foreigners in the anti-US terrorist attacks. If we take into account the bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, Osama's status as the most lethal terrorist is certain.[8]
In addition, he told USA Today that bin Laden had participated in "virtually every major attack of terrorism against the United States" in the 1990s. Johnson underlined the threat posed by bin Laden, saying that he was possessed by "hatred and craziness." If left unanswered, "he would continue to terrorize Americans around the world. He has no compunction about killing women and children. He's a complete egalitarian in his murderous attitude."[9]
[edit]1999
In an interview with PBS's Frontline for its 1999 program, Hunting bin Laden, Johnson discussed Osama bin Laden.[10] According to Johnson, Americans had "tended to make Osama bin Laden sort of a superman in Muslim garb." "Actually," he continues, "Osama bin Laden, in my view, represents more of a symptom of a problem, and the problem is this: the Saudi Arabian government, not just Osama bin Laden but many people in Saudi Arabia, have been sending money to radical Islamic groups for years." Johnson continued:
When you look at who's killed Americans in the last 10 years, the individuals he's supported and backed--I'm basing that upon the initial information that's been released in the indictments and conversations with others in the intelligence communities--Osama bin Laden has been the one killing Americans. No other terrorist group in the world has been out killing Americans except for Osama bin Laden.... Osama bin Laden remains out there as the one really targeting us. So, we recognize that he's the threat. He's serious about wanting to kill Americans, but as long as he's in Afghanistan, as long as he doesn't have access to a cell phone, as long as he can't just hop on a plane and travel wherever he wants without fear of being arrested, his ability to plan and conduct terrorist operations is extremely limited. We have to recognize [that] he would like to do a lot of damage. He would like to kill Americans, but wanting to is different from being able to, having the full capabilities in place.[11]
In the interview, Johnson doubted the ability of members of bin Laden's organization to plan and put their lives on the line:
There's not another Ali or Mustafa out there at this point and Osama bin Laden in my view has not been a very effective organizer or leader. He talks a great game and puts out terrific threats as far as stirring the passions in the United States and maybe firing up the imaginations of some young Muslims throughout the world. But when push comes to shove, can he get a group of people who are together who will say: we are going to plan an operation, we're going to put our lives on the line, we're going to go out and try and kill people and we don't care what the consequence is? It hasn't happened.[12]
Frontline asked:
[Is it] ... fair to say what you're saying is that the president of the United States, his national security advisor, his deputy national security advisor for counter-terrorism, are basically blowing smoke [about the danger posed by bin Laden] and his followers]?
Johnson responded:
They're grossly exaggerating the problem. They are hyping it. They shouldn't be talking about rising terrorism. Instead of saying "terrorism's rising," it's not. "Terrorism is spreading," it's not. "More people are dying from terrorism," not the case. But what they should be saying is, "There's one individual out there that really doesn't like us, and he's made it his mission in life to kill Americans, and we've gotta deal with him." But we need to have a voice of reason in that process instead of putting ourselves out crying wolf, because this is essentially what's taking place right now. They call it the administration that cries wolf.[12]
[edit]2000
Johnson co-authored an article in 2000 with Milt Bearden which focused on the threat posed by al-Qaeda specifically, rather than terrorism trends in general. Beardon and Johnson note that new information emerging about the bombings at Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 points to the threat posed by Imad Mugniyah and Osama Bin Laden will require "a coordinated policy that will employ a full range of covert, clandestine, diplomatic, and military operations," concluding:
The Clinton Administration has shot its bolt on the terrorist problem with small effect, and no last minute show of force will change the record. A new administration can start afresh with a more sharply defined set of terrorism goals – Mughniyeh and bin Laden and their protectors for starters – and bring the full, coordinated force of American diplomatic, military, and intelligence capabilities to bear on the problem.[13]
[edit]2001
After Johnson's testimony to the special forum at the U.S. Senate, Gary J. Schmitt, executive director and CEO of the Project for the New American Century, refers in the Daily Standard (blog) to an op-ed piece Johnson wrote two months prior to the 9/11 attacks, claiming that Johnson argued that the US had little to fear from terrorism.[14]
In an editorial entitled "The Declining Terrorist Threat," published in the New York Times on 10 July 2001, Johnson says:
Judging from news reports and the portrayal of villains in our popular entertainment, Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism.... None of these beliefs are based in fact.... While terrorism is not vanquished, in a world where thousands of nuclear warheads are still aimed across the continents, terrorism is not the biggest security challenge confronting the United States, and it should not be portrayed that way.[15]
Ten days after the 9/11 attacks, after quoting the above passage, Timothy Noah concludes a post in his "Chatterbox" feature at Slate: "Johnson's analysis, we now see, was bold, persuasive, and 100 percent wrong."[16] Johnson defended himself against such attacks:
The rightwing is resurrecting an op-ed I wrote in July 2001. I stand by the full article. It is still relevant today. I am accused, incorrectly, of ignoring the threat of terrorism. In fact, I correctly noted that the real threat emanated from Bin Laden and Islamic extremism. President Bush, for his part, ignored the CIA warning in August 2001 that Al Qaeda was posed to strike inside the United States.[17]
After September 11, Johnson appeared several times on FOX News to address the question of military action against terrorism. On 14 November, he defended the FBI's proposal to interview 5,000 students in the U.S. suspected of having information relevant to the September 11 investigations:
I think they should talk to everyone that they feel they have a need to talk to. I mean, look, this is war. This is not a legal proceeding. This isn't the O.J. Simpson trial. The folks that attacked us -- they murdered Americans. And we've got to recognize that in wartime, we should do things differently.[18]
[edit]2003
In January 2003, Johnson wrote an analysis of the relationship between the upcoming U.S. invasion of Iraq and the threat of transnational terrorism. According to Johnson, Bremer's response was to tell him that "it didn't matter what Saddam did or didn't do, we were going to war."[19] The paper warned that an invasion would "do little to destroy the infrastructure of radical Islamic terrorism responsible for the 9-11 attacks." Noting that Saddam Hussein's regime has been a longtime supporter of regional terrorist organizations such as the PLO, Johnson examines contacts between Saddam Hussein and transnational terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda:
There is no doubt that Iraq is a state sponsor of terrorism—i.e., a country that provides financial support, safe haven, training, or weapons and explosives to groups or individuals that carry out terrorist attacks. . . . According to Central Intelligence Agency data, there is no credible evidence implicating Iraq in any mass casualty terrorist attacks since 1991. . . .
Johnson notes that the period immediately leading up to 2003 saw a rise of activity surrounding terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, suggesting that "Iraq is willing to help a movement that it would otherwise oppose on ideological grounds. Nonetheless," Johnson concludes, "it is important to understand that Iraqi entreaties to Al Qaeda, are most likely intended as a tactic to bolster Iraq’s ability to fight off a U.S. invasion rather than a deep-seated theological and ideological commitment to the terrorist agenda of Bin Laden.[20]
In that analysis Johnson also warns that the U.S.-led invasion was likely to backfire:
In fact there is a serious risk that a U.S. led war against Iraq may crystallize the diffused anger in the Arab and Muslim world — a heretofore unattained goal of bin Laden and his followers — and persuade more Muslim youths to take up the terrorist banner against America and her citizens.... If we decide to invade Iraq we must be prepared for the contingency that our attack will inspire young Muslims to pursue jihad against the West in general and the United States in particular. Just as the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan rallied many Muslims, especially young adults to the cause of jihad, a U.S. attack may enable Islamic extremists to attract new followers.[20]
Johnson also gave interviews on the topic of what to do with captured al-Qaeda leaders; while he did not condone torture, he suggested that a "sleep deprivation and reward system" might be useful for getting information from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed:
I don't see a constitutional right to have eight hours of sleep. You shouldn't subject someone to freezing but they don't get to wear mink coats, either.[21]
In May 2003, Johnson joined members of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) in condemning the manipulation of intelligence for political purposes:
It is a misuse and abuse of intelligence. The president was being misled. He was ill served by the folks who are supposed to protect him on this. Whether this was witting or unwitting, I don't know, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.[22]
[edit]Plame affair
After Robert Novak wrote a column identifying the wife of former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson as a CIA officer, the media invited Johnson to comment on the ensuing scandal because he had been a member of the same Career Trainee class with Valerie Plame Wilson. For example, in October 2003, he appeared on Democracy Now to discuss the Plame affair. He told interviewer Amy Goodman that Valerie Wilson's cover should have been respected whether she was an "analyst" or a "cleaning lady": "if she's undercover she's undercover, period. If the media allows themselves to get distracted with those kinds of curve balls, they ignore the issue."[23]
He told a Senate Democratic Policy Committee in October 2003, "My classmates and I have been betrayed. Together, we have kept the secrets of each other's identities a secret for 18 years. Each and every one of us have kept that secret, whether we were in the CIA, in other government service or in the private sector. But this issue is not just about a blown cover. It is about the destruction of the very essence, the core of human intelligence collection activities: plausible deniability, apparently, for partisan domestic political reasons."[24]
Johnson testified at a special joint hearing of Congressional and Senate Democrats on 22 July 2005 about the consequences arising from the Plame affair.[25]
[edit]2008
In 2008, Johnson emerged as a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton and a strong critic of Barack Obama. Larry Johnson's blog, NoQuarterUSA, became a rally point for Clinton supporters wary of Barack Obama's qualifications to be president. Supporters of Barack Obama insist that a story that first appeared on Johnson's blog--a report that Republican operatives have a tape of Michelle Obama making racially insenstive comments about caucasians--has been "refuted" Barack Obama's Fight the Smears website.[26]. However, Johnson never claimed to have the tape and reported that the Republican operatives controlling it intended to release the tape sometime after the Democratic Convention in August 2008. On October 21, however, he asserted that the operative in possession of the tape had been instructed by the McCain campaign not to release it.[27]

It is, to be sure, a little bit cheap (and slightly at odds with the usual parameters of this feature) to criticize someone for making an erroneous prediction, particularly after a tragedy. Chatterbox is especially reluctant to tag Johnson because Johnson's op-ed was argued forcefully, backed up meticulously with factual data, and bravely at odds with conventional wisdom at the time of its publication. Add in that Johnson now makes his living as a consultant to corporations about terrorism, and therefore had everything to gain by exaggerating the dangers terrorism poses, and the guy practically looks like a hero. Chatterbox, who two decades ago was an editor for the New York Times op-ed page, would have published Johnson's piece had he still been an editor there this past July. In his capacity at Slate, Chatterbox might well have written up Johnson's prediction, and perhaps even endorsed it.
But boy, is he glad he didn't! Johnson's analysis, we now see, was bold, persuasive, and 100 percent wrong. Sadly, a mistake this embarrassing cannot be ignored. As a fellow skeptic, Chatterbox in all sincerity wishes Johnson better luck next time.

What do you think? Was this guy wearing a bowling shirt? Is that why Obama is so miffed? If Obama is flying off the handle just because he could not break forty while bowling, what is he going to do in the White House if he has a bad day? He’s already vowed to rip out the White House bowling alley. What next? Is he going to throw bowling balls at Hillary? Fear not Mrs. Clinton, based on Obama’s recent performance on the bowling lanes the only thing he can hit with any confidence is the gutter.
Check out the video here.
Maybe Obama realizes his quest for the Presidency is slipping away and this was a film test for Anger Management II.

You’re kidding right?
Did you read the transcript or the explanation of what/why in the story???
Yeah, Americans enjoy watching pretentious candidates get snippy with average folks. Great for one’s image.
That’s just it - as noted by the very source you cite, he’s not your average Joe. He was seeking an autograph for resale on ebay. He was rebuffed not once, not twice, but 3 times and not all at the same location.
“They wanted a picture to authenticate the signatures. They were first at the senator’s hotel and tried to get in front of third graders who were lined up to see Senator Obama. After being disruptive, the police moved them to the sidewalk. They then followed the motorcade to the second stop at the market and continued to push for a picture to authenticate whatever they could get signed.”
just show to go ya, Obama is an enemy of enterprise.
ROFLMAO - good one
Earth to Kevin. That was the official campaign explanation of what happened. We could see it for ourselves.
It doesn’t matter to the Obama campaign what our own eyes and ears tell us, they have this hierarchy of explainers to tell us what we should have seen and heard. And when the first explanation doesn’t pan out they come up with another explanation.
Okay, so you know that isn’t the case how? Oh, that’s right - in your world - the campaign would make such an obvious and disprovable statement in a national media outlet accusing the person of one once, twice but three times attempting to secure a photo to go with the autograph(s) they’d already secured.
Right… you crack me up sometimes.
Actually the very source he cited said that the Obama Campaign claimed that the man was a known Ebay seller. The reporter did not say she had verified that claim.
So Obama could tell that just by looking at the guy??
Wow, he’s gifted!
Look closely, the guy has the mark of the beast, the Ebay barcode tattooed on his forehead.
Look to Smilin’ Jim for your tinfoil hatliners, yarmulkes and kufis.
Kevin,
I give you props for being a staunch Obama defender. Ebay? Dude, you’re missing the point. Regardless of the guy’s motive, Obama wins with a big smile and a picture. Instead, he looks like a petulant dick.
There’s a story about US Grant hating being President because he had to continuously shake hands.
It nearly crippled him and he sought treatment for sore shoulders for the rest of his life.
There’s a great footnote about it Flashman and the Redskins.
he’d never have taken the job if he’d realized about the flesh pressing he’d have to do.
You’re projecting Larry.
So, in the name of pursuing the office - your saying that a politician should just cave and do whatever?
No, but Obama has.
That’s just it: it doesn’t matter. Politicians need to realize that it’ll look bad. Most people won’t bother to read the details.
Looked to me like BO wasn’t giving him the time of day, let alone time enough to find out that he sold on ebay? Does he sell on ebay? Hopefully he will come forward and say if he does or does not.
It might interest you to know Kevin that quite a few people who sell on ebay do so because they have lost their jobs, or have elderly or disabled family members and it enables them to take care of them.
Kevin if this man is keeping his house from being foreclosed on by selling on ebay, would BO would then have deigned to take a picture with him.
The man isn’t going to make THAT much money off BO’s picture. BO spent longer refusing him, then it would have taken to sign for him!!!!
In fact all he needs is a link to a copy of this video and he will be able to “authenticate” it.
just an update, Channel 9 Inside Edition tracked down the “EBay Guy” and did a feature on friday night. He is a businessman from Freehold, NJ. He has framed photo’s all around his house of himself with Bill Clinton, Bush, Hillary, Princess Diana, Mother Theresa… It’s his hobby, no EBay connection - so that was just made up… I agree he was too pushy, but he has been falsely characterized, he’s just a guy who likes to get photos with some famous people… Obama now looks even worse - he’s blown it way out of proportion…
Larry,
Average folks? The man was an annoying ass.
Obama should be snapping the heads off of his security for continuing to let that fool near him.
Odd place to draw a line. The pain-in-the-ass would have disappeared if he had obliged.
a more experienced candidate would have handled the incident without aggravating it.
observe and learn.
right… like Bill ignored the Heckler(s)?
If the guy had been wearing a Hillary button, Obama would have offered him a kiss.
Typical “white” person. eh?
That guy could have been anyone and any color.
Did you notice how Obama avoided eye contact?
At one point I got the impression that the gentleman was in the way of a “take”…well BO thats all he knows…take 1 through take ?
I was thinking the guy should have offered him a house, or something, maybe slipped him a 100.00.
Obama don’t do nothing for free, brother.
Mybe down the road the picture will showup and it will be used against Obama somehow…LOL good thing he wasn’t dressed “funny”…Imagine him taking a picture with A REGULAR JOE?….Drudge would have a field day.
I am a little surprised that the Secret Service was not more “Firm” with the guy. Or where they from Blackwater?
>>> Did you notice how Obama avoided eye contact?
White person of the wrong gender. Obama loves those old (and young) white ladies who swoon for his Bellafonte Redux act.
This is pathetic…you really are a bunch of Freeper-like, mean, visceral blog heads.
I am really disappointed in Larry, who at one time was capable of being analytical.
This looks like a desperate search to find dirt, and failing that, making some up.
What happened to intelligence? Very low grade stuff…
Not “desperate” search to FIND the dirt - we are low on big trucks to haul it out to the public.
There is so much dirt on Obama, there are not enough pickups to bring it out - need the really big ones! And to think we are only an inch or so beneath the surface! Imagine what we will find as we keep digging!
No, it’s just that he made an annoying gnat more of a problem than he was worth. He should’ve just taken the picture. Listen, if he’s the nominee, the media will slice and dice him. They’ll spin anything to make him look bad. He needs to be much smarter than that because it feeds into the image of him as someone out of touch with the working class, John Kerry-esque.
How so - other than on this site, on this thread, I haven’t seen this incident pick up any traction nationally and not in the PA press I’ve been able to get hold of so far.
So how does this become “more of a problem than it’s worth”?
It’s a non-story that’s had it’s import and context exaggerated to support a biased premise.
If anything, I’d say Bill blowing up w/ the delegates will become a much bigger story.
Inc
I happen to wonder about the Freeper like style on this site too.
It’s what they used to call “republican mean”…but childish at the same time, like Larry saying:
,
Flying off the handle? When? Where?
Obama is not a good guy, worthy of respect.
Let’s cut the crap, and the pretension.
If he didn’t take money from Saddam’s former bag man, and others, casually betraying the public trust he was sworn to uphold, he’d at least get some respect.
It’s a rough world out there, Chicago smack down and all that, right?
What, can’t handle it?
You gonna deal with terrorist bagmen, life gets rough.
A Blog head? That’s a first… I guess that’s better than Bonehead.
Hahahahah! Right on, Simon.
Baby Jesus Obama has a temper! He’s probably kind of cranky from being in PA with all those common people.
I bet Obama would have been happy to have his picture taken with the guy in question if he had slipped him a $100.
Really though WTF does Obama care what someone does with a picture of him and a voter?
He’s a public figure not a recluse.
What a schmuck.
He cares because he is a COMMODITY. That guy wasn’t part of brand image or the marketing plan.
So, if you send in something antithetical to the image, he wilts?
People he doesn’t want to be seen with, such as obese men in bad stretch overalls, without cash, from downstate IL? FBI agents with search warrants and access to his wife’s bank accounts?
That type of thing?
Or smart good looking blond white women, from Park Ridge IL, who insult his insular, delusional sense of superiority, who refuse to quietly defer, denying him what he feels is rightfully his, as a hip black man?
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Reminds me of that song “Get Out of Denver” by Bob Seger, as sung by Dave Edmunds.
“The rain kept drivin’ but the Caddy kept on burnin’ rubber
We kept on drivin’ till we ran into some fog cover
We couldn’t see a thing somehow we just kept on goin’
We kept on drivin’ all night long and then into the mornin’
‘Fore it finally lifted when we looked to see where we was at
We’re starin’ at a Colorado state policeman trooper cat go”
if one man “wears him out,” how will he deal with an entire country and an unstable world? obama is unfit for the presidency.
Yea if I didn’t hear with my own ears…I guess that’s what thinks he can do with the people of Florida and Michigan. What an aragant man.
Truthteller what you right is a two sententance ad.
Wonder who will use it first?
Obama is becoming more embarrassing by the day. He should drop out now and spare us more torture.
Senator Obama should just tell the poor guy “I will give you a kiss.” I sure “Joe” will back off.
Hillary would have let the man take a picture or two for his peace of mind. Why Obama was making a big deal out of it I don’t understand.
Wasn’t in the “script” he wrote for the day!
Also, not a whole lot of paisans (what we garlic-noses call ourselves) out at the Italian market. Those who were there and not being dissed by Mr. Big Stuff weren’t exactly beaming.
What’s up, B? Why no love?
I noticed that too, he really wasn’t surrounded by supporters, was he? They looked at him curiously, mostly. I could actually hear people saying.. just let him take the picture. And when he said he would, a few people kinda cheered, but then he didn’t. His campaign is being pretty stupid about this — I mean how many freakin’ photos have all the candidates taken with people in the past few months? Any one of those could be sold on Ebay, though why anyone would want to buy a photo of Obama with some random guy is beyond me.
His handlers were very inept. I’ve done that kind of work before for a few Congressmen at events, and whomever was handling Obama that day really blew it. Someone on his staff could have taken the guy aside for a moment to talk to him, then quietly asked Obama to pose for the photo, after asking the man to sit tight for a minute. Geez, especially with cameras rolling.
I have a business subscription to Terapeak which does a search of ebay for 90 days.
I did a search for 90 days on ebay for Obama, there were close to 40,000 listings and the average sale price was a grand total of 25.00! The things that get the most money are the scary posters that look kind of 1984 like “Big Brother” looking to me and first edition signed books. There are some Topps authographed cards that do well too. Did he license for these or? Marketing indeed.
I don’t think this guy was going to break the bank selling this autograph.
In fact I find the story hard to believe, perhaps the Obama campaign would be willing to release his userid on ebay?
Surely you can’t be hanging on to something like this to help Hillary?
LOL!
Why…Yes…Yes we are!
How do we know this guy was trying to hawk the photo on eBay? All we have is Obama’s word.
And we ALL know what that’s worth.
Obama supporters better not flatter themselves and feel anyone would pay money for a picture of Obama on ebay, especially standing next to a guy no one knows.
Obama is just an arrogant fool but this is a sign of things to come, if nominated he would not have time for simple people, he would be to big and large then.
Btw…a recent poll shows that Obama is now leading in PA.
PLUS:
All of the vitriol coming from by Clinton supporters has done NOTHING to elevate her chances.
You hurt them.
…and the knife ran away with the spoon.
Everyone knows where I stand vis a vis Barack Obama, however I’m curious where was the Secret Service? Also, interesting that CBS posted this. The MSM has not posted stuff like this before so that’s interesting.
But, the guy was also an annoying person and didn’t come off sympathetic either. I agree, Obama could have/should have handled it better. Politicians have this kind of thing happen to them and they know that if it goes on record that voters may have an unfavorable reaction. Since he is behind in PA, this kind of thing won’t help him. Personally, I don’t think it’s going well in PA and he is showing signs of strain. That IS important, considering he is the ‘front runner.’ Annoying or not, it was only a picture. Yet, he was so visibly upset. Does he expect that everyday as POTUS is going to be a cakewalk? Hillary has been bashed, insulted, pressured, harangued, called the most disgusting names and still she’s been poised. This is why she’s my choice. Hillary can take it! That’s what we need in a president right now. GUTS!!!!
The guy did seem annoying, BUT this was the third time he was told no picture, He probably was nicer the first couple times and got pissed.Obama wasted way more time argueing with the gut than if he just took the picture at the hotle, and who cares IF the guy was going to make a buck off ebay. IF you are so concerned about that then don’t go to meet voters. I thought the whole point of going to places like the Italian Market was to meet the regular people and shake hands get pictures, try to get them to vote for you, ESPECIALLY if you are going to the Italain market after your “moral Campass” called Italians Garlic Noses, you would think he would go out of his way to be nice to show he doesn’t fell the same way. Then the whole Fine, but I won’t smile? that reminded me of a 3 year old who doesn’t want to leave his Chritmas toys to be in the dumb family picture
this is how obama treats typical white people, especially italians.
What if the guy was a convicted felon or murderer…then there would be a picture of Obama with a really really bad guy and you’d all be chattering for days abot that and talking about him consorting with murders…pathetic
It started with Ebay.
Now your nimble wit has jumped to convicted felon or murderer (a murder is a felon, btw).
Face it, the guy is really Hitler in disguise cunningly resurrected by underground Nazi science.
Look to Smilin’ Jim for your tinfoil hatliners, yarmulkes and kufis.
Umm.. can’t tell if you’re joking. the candidates pose for thousands of photos during the election season, non of which are cleared first thru the DoJ. If Obama was concerned about being associated with criminals.. well.. it’s really too late for that, now isn’t it?
Like Rezko?
You asked for it.
Don’t worry about convicted felons, plenty of pictures of him with Rezko already, what’s one more picture!!???
What if the guy was a convicted felon or murderer
If I understand what you are saying, What would be the story line if Obama was hanging out with convicted felon or murderers?
Ibama (read IRobot) has already murdered the truth, but that aside, he has a 17 year relationship with Tony Rezko. At some point Rezko will be a convicted felon. Until then, you point out how poor Obama’s judgment is and how hollow he has made the words of others.
And there are few pictures available.
I get it. It’s the political reality of the Chicago ropes one must climb as a pol, it’s foul. Many people might even look the other way if Ibama had taken care the people in his district and not let them live in miserery, without heat or running water.

My apologies for the “sequence” post. It appears that the spam filter did not like the length as one post.

And Big Media hasn’t even started on Bambi.
That is, Big Media hasn’t started yet on Bambi cause they are pushing the for a Bambi vs McCain contest, of course.
However, I can clearly see, all the way from here, that they’ve got Wright in one pocket and Rezko in the other.
Those two, plus a swiftboatload of other stuff, will make an appearance, big time, once/if Bambi gets the nomination, handed to him in a 48 state contest by the Dean/Pelosi clique.
Count on it.
EBAY?
How could you sell a photo of an unknown person standing next to Obama? There must be 50,000 such photos floating around.
An original autograph — I can get — but a digital photo? Makes no sense, IMHO.
A bit fishy innit?
I’d not pay a dime for such a picture.
Obama has a habit of NOT taking pictures with folks.
Seriously–very very few have surfaced.
Maybe his image doesn’t show up in the photo.
It woukd have easier and quicker to just let the lad take his pic. Why do that? Now he has a brouhaha growing.
Add this video to the video of Obama on vacation in, where was it?, the Virgin Islands, while and you have a pattern of a man with a short fuse. Plus he is just not a gracious man.
What does he tink will happen IF he is elected President? Have some privacy? This man is not ready for prime time.
i think he made sure the swimsuit photo got out because he thinks he looks good. i beg to differ. and i think he thinks it will remind people of jfk. again, i beg to differ.
I think this whole episode just speaks to his arrogant nature. I do think he is arrogant. You see the Clintons taking pictures and signing autographs all the time! The only time I have seen BO do this was after the debates.
It was on the news in Philly and they made sure to add he never got his picture takes (and I was happy they let the video speak for itself, not the BO spin http://video.nbc10.com/player/?id=236043
For all we know, he got a pic with him and they did a fade edit.
You would think, in a neighborhood where someone wiseguys youz into a picture that you would oblige out of a sense of local community.
It was a lost opportunity in how he initially talked with the man. There’s nothing to lose being gregarious with admirers in front of other supporters.
There was nothing to lose with a chance encounter and much to gain. It could actually be a nonstory, outside the context of where it was. Make a fake controversy out of something so when it’s debugged you get a spike from it.
The alarming aspect is that he’s such a poor bowler. Big Lebowski comparisons shoul;d be all over Olbermann by now.
What about Michigan and Florida?
“Mark it ZERO, Dude!”

Is the Clinton Campaign selling “Typical White Pennsylvanian” shirts?
They would be extra great on people who aren’t white.
I’m bothered by the complacency of the Secret Service agents around Obama; this nutjob could have had a gun.
The guy had ample opportunity to snap several photos of Obama. He was just being a dick. Obama handled it with his usual class.
Unlike Senator, “You Kids Get Off My Grass!” Obama didn’t get all pissy with him.
IMO “FINE BUT I won’t smile” is pretty pissy AND childish
