The Latest on Randi Rhodes (and the Obama connection) [Updated]

UPDATE: I demand that Barack Obama remove all funds, if any, received from the Randi Rhodes event from his campaign treasury, and give those funds to charity. If — and we are still investigating this — the money collected at the door, and any other monies possibly collected that evening — went into Barack Obama’s campaign fund (money that came from the pro-Obama supporters who applauded, roared, and cheered while Ms. Rhodes uttered those vile, filthy, and profane words about Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro). We are investigating further.

It is unconscionable that those Obama supporters whooped and clapped when Randi Rhodes called Geraldine Ferraro — a woman who has fought for equal rights for decades and was named to the National Women’s Hall of Fame — a “David Duke in drag.”

nyt-blogrunner-randi.jpgYes! Our story yesterday — “Air America’s Randi Rhodes Suspended: We Did It! [Updated x2]” — was the top featured story this morning at the New York Times’s blog tracker, Blogrunner.

[Click on the image to see the full screenshot.]

Did you see that Ms. Rhodes is in a snit about her “indefinite” suspension? From the Huffington Post’s Jeff Norman:

They [Air America Radio] are in breach of my contract and have damaged my hard won excellent reputation in the broadcast industry…” Rhodes added she received thank you letters from representatives of Air America, the San Francisco affiliate and sponsors praising her for the performance that now has her in hot water.

I smell a lawsuit. Don’t you? She seems like the litigious type.

Below the fold, we have video of Fox News reporting today on the pre-event publicity announcement that appeared on Barack Obama’s official campaign Web site.

Here’s the link to the abhorrent video, which was posted first here at No Quarter. (If it’s still available; now the Obama fundraisers are claiming “copyright” privileges. We are fighting back.)

We reported this earlier today here — with a screenshot of the Obama campaign site’s publicity for the event — in our story, “Barack & Randi, Cozy As Can Be [Three Updates — Third from Larry Johnson].”

Also below the fold, you’ll also see Geraldine Ferraro’s response to Rhodes’s statements — including Rhodes calling Ferraro a “David Duke in drag”

Fox News’s coverage today of the pre-event publicity on Barack Obama’s official campaign site:

John Gibson is demanding that Randi Rhodes apologize. And that will happen … when?

Geraldine Ferraro and more from Hannity & Colmes last night:

[MORE TO COME. STAY TUNED.]

I’m glad Sean Hannity brought up that article which quotes Obama himself and sounds amazingly similar to what Ms. Ferraro said.

New York Times
By Jeff Zeleny
December 24, 2006
“Mr. Obama has pointedly acknowledged that he benefits from his race, noting last year that a new white senator from Illinois would hardly have stirred comparable interest or intrigue. So Mr. Obama has embraced his role, but he has strived to be defined by more than color alone.”

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
By Jeff Zeleny
June 26, 2005
“Obama acknowledges, with no small irony, that he benefits from his race.
If he were white, he once bluntly noted, he would simply be one of nine freshmen senators, almost certainly without a multimillion-dollar book deal and a shred of celebrity. Or would he have been elected at all?”

Being as Barack has made all these racist remarks about himself, I believe he should demand that he resign from his campaign.

Priceless.

“I know if I’m in an all-black audience that there’s going to be a certain rhythm coming back at me from the audience. They’re not just going to be sitting there,” Obama said. “That creates a different rhythm in your speaking.”

“I’m not somebody who uses race to score political points–quite the opposite,” he added in an interview, walking away from the hearing room on a recent morning. “I would hope that it wouldn’t just be something that I would do because I’m black, I would hope that any senator in my position would do the same thing.”

Comment by Vimes | 2008-04-05 10:50:40

How committed to fairness is he when he says shite like this: “I would hope that it wouldn’t just be something that I would do because I’m black,…[]” Why would he have to ‘HOPE’ he wouldn’t be an asswipe?, because he knows he has and will again use the race card.

I heard some moron call Tom Hartmann’s show today concerning Randi Rhodes- he started to bleat about “First Amendment Rights..” To Hartmann’s credit, he immediately corrected the caller, reminding him that the First Amendment protects the speaker from GOVERNMENT prosecution..

But like a true Obamabot, the guy pretended to agree “I know, but..” and then went right back to the false analogy- “I lived in Communist Yugoslavia, and there was this comedian there, and he criticized the government!” This clown’s argument was that HILLARY got Rhodes suspended (those Clintons again!), blah blah blah…

Again, this is NOT a free speech issue. No one has the “right” to a talk radio show gig. No one is talking about throwing Rhodes in jail for speaking her opinion. But if Air America has any dignity left, her contract should be ripped up. She should be treated exactly as if she had smeared Obama- and we all know she would have been fired for doing that.

It’s your move, Air America.

Wow. I am honestly just in shock. Where did you get information saying that money went to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign?

This is based on the fact that it was added to his event calendar? Really? Even though it clearly states it is a fundraiser for Green960? Really? And there are directions to sign up through Green960 listed on the posting?

Really?

Comment by Larry Johnson | 2008-04-04 22:09:41

Mr. Moore,
Can you explain why Barack Obama’s website would list an event, that is co-sponsored by several groups clearly linked to Obama, which include:

NORCAL LGBT for Obama
The Castro for Obama
San Franciso for Obama.

So if this event has nothing to do with Obama and no link whatsoever to his campaign, why in the name of Jupiter is it listed on the official Barack Obama website? He having trouble coming up with content or events?

Please enlighten us oh wise one. I don’t put up a damn thing on my blog that I don’t support or endorse. Are you finally conceding that I am smarter than Barack?

Comment by Chris Vosburg | 2008-04-05 14:56:16

Person or Persons unknown weho have kidnapped Larry Johnson and are posting in his name write: Can you explain why Barack Obama’s website would list an event, that is co-sponsored by several groups clearly linked to Obama, which include:

NORCAL LGBT for Obama
The Castro for Obama
San Franciso for Obama.

Nonsense. The event was sponsored solely by Bay Area radio station “green 960″, as is clearly noted in the event description you provided.

By way of further explanation, the website carries the subdomain name of “mybarackobama”, which should have tipped you off right away that this is merely a depository for obama supporters, and carries little or no content from the campaign itself. In fact, the TOS, as one might imagine, carries the explicit disclaimer that the Obama campaign does not endorse anything posted at the site.

In the same sense, you’re not held as endorsing any comment posted here, capische?

I have no doubt that if the webmaster removed the Randi Rhodes item from the site– as many have suggested or demanded here– those selfsame offendees would immediately accuse the Obama campaign of seeking to “disappear” the event– in order to minimize damage to the candidate.

In the end, the offense, if any, is solely that of Randi Rhodes, and not Obama.

I say “if any” because it’s been an awful long time since the word “whore” was confined to the single sense of one who performs sexual acts for money. A person without scruples will do. The fact that Randi said this in the course of what was essentially a standup comic role should give pause.

Some have raised the specter of sexism here, and I simply don’t know whether to laugh or lose my lunch. In order for sexism– and racism for that matter– to work, it has to be perpetrated by a member of a group in a position to enforce the epithet– in other words, in a white-male-dominated society, you kind of have to be a white male for the accusation to stick.

Female-on-female sexism? Sorry, I just can’t get my head around it.

Lastly, a reminder. If the Obama campaign is responsible for Randi’s statement, then you must concede that Hillary is to be held responsible for your statements, and each and every comment posted here.

That’d be silly, Larry.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-05 16:29:45

So basically if I want to hold a BARACK OBAMA IS A SEXIST PIG EVENT, I can post it to his website? What do you think the chances of that are?

Are you going to tell stupid “downscale” me that nobody in the Obama camp ever looks to see who’s posting at my.barackobama.com? Did the knife run away with the spoon yet?

I have an idea everyone. Plan a HILLARY event and see how well it works out for you on the Obama site.

Sorry, no.

Sexism is treating people differently on the basis of gender where such treatment has no rational basis (an example of ‘rational basis’ would be not covering testicular exams under a single-with-no-dependents- women’s insurance policy.

If what you said was true, then Ann Coulter saying women shouldn’t be allowed to vote isn’t sexist.

And as for it ‘being able to work’, having a member of the suppressed group express it gives cover to the oppressing group, making the “ism” more likely to be perpetuated.

You lose.

Then you don’t understand self-perpetuation either. And if you claim to understand anything about racism, thus sexism, then you certainly would have been educated in self-perpetuation.

Keep up with the conversation in the black community regarding self-perpetuation of racism, and you’ll have a half a chance at understanding how the same holds true about sexism when women attack women.

I have watched women tell my wife to be a good housewife and serve me well and be all that I need her to be. This is self-perpetuation.

I have watched women other than randi rhodes calling other women “skank hos’, “bitches” and “whores”. This is self-perpetuation.

I have watched women in power not give power to other women because they were women and would give that authority to men. This is self-perpetuation.

I hate the term self-hating because it misses the point. Better to assess the reality that it perpetuates the power trip.

If you can’t see how this is happening then I’d caution you about lecturing anyone on the topic.

And the excuse that Randi Rhodes meant “whore” in a way that meant ‘compromised your integrity for gain’…then i’ll introduce you to some white folks who excuse their racism by telling you there are blacks then there are ‘niggers’. This is a con game for the intellectually stunted and the morally corrupt.

Perhaps there comes a time when you have to just decide you don’t get to call people such a word that has been used to beat down people.

Let’s see. It’s on an Obama Campaign official site. It’s calling for several different Obama Groups to come. It’s asking them to work the phone-banks for Obama first. It’s asking everyone to wear campaign attire. It suggests that after the pep rally, everyone meet to socialize/organize to take PA.

…and they onlt want $5 at the door. The $5 was for rent. You’re gonna tell me there wasn’t a fund raising table there? If there wasn’t, it would be a political first worthy of the Guinness Book.

DJ,

It was one of two things: an official Obama Fund raiser, or an official Obama Workers Rally.

I repeat myself: It’s on an Obama Campaign official site. It’s calling for several different Obama Groups to come. It’s asking them to work the phone-banks for Obama first. It’s asking everyone to wear campaign attire. It suggests that after the pep rally, everyone meet to socialize/organize to take PA.

The $5 collected (by Right-Wingnut Clear Channel radio) was to cover the meeting place costs. Was there extra fund-raising going on? Well, for a campaign that brags about its grassroots support, it would seem odd they’d miss this, don’t ya think?

Still waiting for Obama’s apology and denouncement. Hypocrite. And that goes for all of you Obamapologists, who let great women like Ferraro and Clinton be trashed by YOUR campaign in such an ugly way.

Comment by Steve | 2008-04-05 15:27:47

But Rhodes is referred to as an Obama supporter on Obama’s website. Does Obama condone this behaviour? Do other Obamabots view Rhodes’s misogyny as appropriate? Were Rhodes’s utterances sanctioned by the campaign?

Comment by 1st Republic 14th Star | 2008-04-04 22:09:44

If Obama wants bottom up organization and individual empowerment, then he has to live with the results. That event was, at a minimum, organized by HIS supporters using the resources of HIS campaign to do it. He’s therefore accountable, if not responsible.

Comment by John | 2008-04-04 22:14:41

I’m sure Obama had no idea that Rhodes was this kind of disgusting, loathsome person, and from now on he’ll distance himself from her. The campaign won’t return the money, but from now on they won’t take any money from events hosted by Randi Rhodes.

I expect Obama to tell us that he would have stopped listening to Randi very soon if she had not been suspended. However, he will continue to encourage his daughters to listen to her.

Finally, I expect a flood of Obamabots to tell us that we are just idiots because we are looking at a handful of comments taken out of context from a twenty-year radio career, and it’s so unfair.

Besides, Rhodes’s comments and Barack’s brilliant response to them have forced us to examine our OWN sexism instead of just ignoring this pressing problem. Yay, Barack has brought us together again!

Comment by Hope | 2008-04-05 03:26:01

Well he subjected his girls to Rev Wrong so why not more of Randi?

Comment by yttik | 2008-04-04 22:19:03

Obama owes women an apology. He needs to take responsibility, step up to the plate and say he condemns Randi’s words. Hillary has denounced people’s words and so has John McCain when he apologized for Bill Cunningham. It’s what leaders do. In fact, some senior members of the Democratic party also need to step up and say we don’t condone having two of our female members called whores.

If this was about the N word being used against a Democrat, we’d be screaming bloody murder. Nobody within the party would stand for that. At least I wouldn’t. Well, silence is the voice of complicity and I haven’t heard anybody from the Dem side denounce RR’s words. I am so angry, I’ve got smoke coming out of my ears. Randi Rhodes isn’t really the issue, it’s the number of so called “progressives” who are condoning her words and claiming she didn’t say anything wrong.

Comment by truthteller2007 | 2008-04-04 22:21:41

But Obamabots desire to move beyond the 1960s. I guess this requires the liquidation of the feminist movement. After all, feminism is the politics of the past. Equal rights for women is the politics of the past. Violence against women is entirely appropriate, however.

Comment by John | 2008-04-04 22:27:45

This is the year we learned that sexism is not only alive and well in the media and in politics, it’s actually condoned and encouraged.

Today Ed Schultz read a poll saying that while 76% of Americans think “America is ready for a black President,” only 63% think America is ready for a Female President. In his next sentence, he talked about how much progress we had made since the death of Martin Luther King!

Yes, because MLKjr. was ONLY concerned with racism. He didn’t give a damn about equal treatment for any other group, just blacks.

Yep, you really understand the legacy of Dr. King, Big Eddie. Now do us all a favor and go gargle with that fuel additive crap you endlessly pimp on your show.

Comment by yellowdogdemocrat | 2008-04-04 22:30:26

Schultz is a sexist pig.

Comment by Becki Jayne | 2008-04-05 00:08:29

So Schultz manufactured the polls? Don’t think so. Plenty of other polls say the same thing.

Comment by Steve | 2008-04-05 00:44:29

If Schultz is a sexist pig then perhaps those listening to Schultz and thus voting in his poll represent those who enjoy listening to Schultz and should not be interpreted as representing America.

Comment by John | 2008-04-05 08:20:27

Wow….just, wow. Way to NOT GET THE POINT AT ALL, Becki. The POINT I was making was that this was a great opportunity for Schultz to discuss the fact that forty years later, MLKjr’s dream of a country without discrimination, where we are all judged by the content of our character, was still far from being achivieved, based on the poll he cited.

You are a great representative for the Duh I Don’t Get It Obamabot crowd, congrats.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-05 01:13:21

That’s interesting because I was watching a speaker on CSPAN the other day who wrote a book about the evolution of Press clubs. He was talking about how black men and women were banned from clubs and had to go start their own. At one critical point, women reporters asked guest speakers to refuse to speak unless women were allowed in the conference. Nikita Krushchev, who loved to stick it in America’s noses by pointing out our faults, refused to speak and women were allowed in. But MLK would not cooperate. According to the author, he was far too concerned with getting the opportunity to speak and wasn’t going to damage those chances for women.

I think I wrote down the name of the book and author, I hope I can find where.

I get tired of the double standard that always seems to be applied. If the proverbial shoe were on the other foot and racist name calling had happened at an event by one of Hillary’s supporters (and I do think RR is most definitely a BO supporter), it would be in the media 24/7 and all the talking heads would be talking about how Hillary had to denounce this person, etc., etc.

Because it’s about BO different story though…

Remarks made that you would have to stretch reason like silly putty to deign them racist are definitely not okay, but in the BO world degrading miysognist remarks about a candidate and democratic leader AOK!!!

In a truly progressive, democratic party, equal disgust should be given.

What the hell was RR thinking to say something like this about another woman? I just think it’s wrong and she is no credit to progressives to name call like this.

It’s so odd the slant of the media coverage on BO.

qwerty: no more of a slight than Hillary herself implying he can’t win because he is black.

I’d like for you to dig up a quote and prove it.

Comment by DisenfranchisedVoter | 2008-04-05 01:54:38

Trust me, if a Hillary supporter or surrogate went to a public event and proclaimed on stage that Obama was a “whore” there would be hell to pay. And I wouldn’t excuse that person just because they were supporting Hillary.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-05 02:15:00

Does being a political whore count?

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-05 08:17:58

You’ll have to find a reference for that statement. If you start looking now, we’ll never hear from you again, because you won’t find it.

Just “makin’ shit up” doesn’t cut it here.

But I AM sure Hill’s telling the SDs that Obama can’t win in the GE because of the total package of who he is and who he isn’t. Being half black isn’t a liability for him. Being a shallow, deceptive, inexperienced cypher with close ties to multiple organizations and people who hate America is.

The GOP isn’t going to run Alan Keyes against Obama in November. The GOP is running an elder statesman, a moderate Republican, and someone who independents still believe is a maverick. McCain is still perceived by indies as the “anti-Bush” Republican (despite 4 years of “make-nice”). After the GOP Convention, McCain will move away from Bush, decisively. IF Obama is the Democratic nominee, this campaign will be your worst nightmare.

That is exactly what qwerty and the hundreds of others who rushed to Randi Rhodes aid are saying…Ignore what she said, Ignore their applause, Ignore that she did this to support Obama, and the local sexist hate monger station of Green960 and its program director, John Scott.

It is supported by their parent company AMFM Broadcasting Inc.

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-05 08:22:32

Does anyone know why the far-right, Dixie Chicks banning, Texas-based media giant Clear Channel booked the room? Is Green960 owned by Clear Channel?

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-05 08:28:23

I just checked. Green960 is indeed owned by ClearChannel.

I have to ask all Obamapologists this question: Are you SAE or metric? Because you are CLEARLY a tool.

Comment by speaktruth | 2008-04-05 10:11:34

Hmm. So this is interesting and what does it mean?
The supposedly progressive Green960? (I’m not familiar with the channel, but assuming it’s supposed to be progressive) is really owned by the far right? And supporting Obama?
That fits with all contradictions I’ve seen in him. I haven’t seen much to show that he will have Democratic programs as president.
Follow the money. But also follow who is behind those supporting him. And all those Repub dogwhistles.

qwertyuiop,
you don’t understand personal accountability and have little right to talk about John McCain, George w Bush or Cheney…if you can’t handle personal responsibility for Rhodes, then you simply don’t believe in it.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-04-05 00:27:19

audacity to disagree? so calling someone a fucking whore is courage? wow! how ‘about challenging the person on campaigns issues instead of name calling. you wouldn’t be so accepting if roles were reversed.

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-04-05 00:29:02

you really are out of line on this one, who cares if she criticizes john mccain, i used to listen to her daily until she went out of control, and btw, she totally contradicted herself on BO, well before many were out of the race, she heavily criticized him.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-05 01:40:25

Heck we aren’t even angry enough yet. Fix this primary by allowing Obama to continue to block the votes or a revote in florida and michigan, and the Democratic Party will think our anger today is a day at the beach by comparison to what’s to come.

Comment by Catriley | 2008-04-05 02:33:24

Seeing two respected women called “fucking whores” repeatedly to a wildly cheering audience is hardly a “slight.” I don’t care WHO said it, it’s not right. If her comments were racial in nature, people would be jumping all over her shit, and the Obamacrats would be screaming for her head.

Sexism is apparently alive and well in the Democratic Party. No.. actually.. sexism is too mild, more like egregious misogyny.

Comment by ritamary | 2008-04-05 03:30:05

So we should just accept Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro being called foul names because Randi Rhodes might criticize John McCain in the general election? You are pathetic, qwert.

Comment by speaktruth | 2008-04-05 09:40:41

Do you really believe that this outrage is about Randi not agreeing?
See, that’s exactly the kind of thing that I’m sure Obamabots are repeating all over the blogosphere and elsewhere, and that is losing people like us from the GE.
Distortions like that.
I didn’t hear one issue she disagreed with.
If you looked at the level of intelligence and discourse here you wouldn’t think of saying that.
We don’t mind debates and disagreements. I would say almost everyone here likes a high level discussion, based on ideas, not lies, not name calling.
There was no disagreement here - just mean-spirited name calling based on two respected women’s gender. Because they DISAGREED with your candidate.
Typical. The Obama campaign accusing others of doing what they are doing again.
I wonder how many of those who come here to argue for him are being paid by the campaign?
I would also say it’s partly the fault of the Women’s Movement for not speaking up more, for pretty much disappearing in the last fifteen years and being wimpy long before that (I remember meeting with NOW during my divorce in the eighties. I was shocked at how weak and passive they seemed.)
Black leaders have been denouncing racism at the slightest provocation. Where have feminist leaders been? Are there feminist leaders now? Guess not.

Comment by Andy | 2008-04-07 00:20:58

qwert, you have no integrity, do you?

So can a call you a *f—— whore* provided I campaign against McCain in the Fall?

Proud to stand against what’s wrong and for what’s right. Must be too nuanced for you to understand…what did you call it, a slight? Ha!

The Obamapologists rushing to Randi Rhodes defense is just one more tacky example of the fact that they in their adoration of “the One” will excuse anything if it hurts Hillary Clinton and helps Obama.

The same vile words directed at “the one” would unleash hysterical outrage.

I came to support Hillary Clinton via John Edwards dropping out. My support was tepid at best and simply based on issues. I thought she was and is a hard-working, smart as a whip, pragmatist. Someone who had done her homework, know the problems and would work to fix them as best she could. Him, I thought him a lightweight with a gift of gab. Not presidential material.

Hillary has earned my respect and admiration. She has fought against a stacked deck and still remains in a race where she has had to carry media bias, Left Blogosphere bias, Bias from her own party leadership and still she’s in the race. Obama with every wind at his back still hasn’t been able to cross the finish line ahead of her.

It is often said that a woman has to be twice as good as a man to get a job, a promotion, respect. Hillary’s proven herself capable of being even better than we could have hoped.

He’s proven he can take the lead in a fixed race and still not outpace her by much. And he, and his supporters, have proven that they will do anything to win. His supporters will excuse things they would vociferously decry in anyone else.

Randi Rhodes just stepped on her tongue one too many times by calling Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro “f—-whores!Perhaps her contempt for hightly educated accomplished women got the better of her and she could only resort to gutter language in her frustration. Whatever, I hope it was all worth blowing a career over! She’s done!

Thanks to NO QUARTER to keep us informed!

Why can’t Obama come out and condemn the attack on two female Democrats? It wouldn’t hurt his campaign at all to come forward and show that he stands in soldiarity with Democrats and women.

If this was about the N word, I’d expect every Dem in this country to be speaking out. Silence is the voice of complicity. By not standing up when female Dems are attacked in a sexist way, the party is condonding it.

And it’s damn embarassing watching the idiots on Fox news “get it” and condemn the words. You know the Dem party is on the wrong track when Fox news starts showing more integrity. You can’t lower the bar any farther then that.

Larry
The radio station in San Francisco “Green 960″ that put the event on with Randi is going to air a pirated version of the Randi Rhoads show on Monday April 7th. Sounds like they are behind Randi 100%. What a bunch of hypocrites. The station has message on their home page that says the event was not a fundraiser for Obama, all money went to the station not Obama, even though Obama’s site claimed it was a fundraiser. I’m one of the new viewers to your site, thanks so much for your Hillary support. Found you through Bartcop.com.

Kathleen,

Green960 is a ClearChannel Radio station. That’s the network that banned The Dixie Chicks from all their stations. It’s a FAR RIGHT WING radio network. Of course they support Obama in the primary. The Far Right doesn’t want to face Hillary in the GE.

They’ve spent 12 years trying to destroy her and her husband, and haven’t been able to get Hillary-Hate over about 40%. That makes it VERY difficult to persuade undecideds to hate her, so the Obama strategy works two ways for ClearChannel:
1) Get Obarry the nomination,
2) get Obomatrons to HATE HILLARY.

That’s their game, and the Tools are playing along merrily.

Air America’s other mission is to slime “progressive” media.

So if Plan A;

have a pickup “concert” on 960 and at 5 bucks a head cover the rent on the hall. Advertise it as an Obama event, and that you are serving meatballs and kool-aid; and Foulmouthed radio Jocks for Obama. The networking and real money raised at these types of events is not reported. It is a bundling event.

then; B

oops, Randi screwed the pooch! It got noticed for what it was. After all it takes some co-ordination to have an advertisement on the Oborg web site AND Green 960…no big there..until someone stinks up the place and “nobody” (read Obama) wants to take responsibilty…and at a minimum publicly denounce it…or “hope” his supporters to a higher standard of discourse.

Silence, in this day and age is tacit approval. Vote for the Goa’uld if you must but remember the parasite of indifference lives within you for doing so.

Today Obama came out and denounced the words being used….. against McCain.

I want to scream.

“..Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign on Saturday repudiated a liberal talk show host’s description of Sen. John McCain as a warmonger, a comment made to an audience that Obama later addressed… Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement: “John McCain is not a warmonger and should not be described as such.”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080405/ap_on_el_pr/obama_talk_radio_host

So it’s okay to call democratic women whores but heaven forbid you call the opposition a warmonger. That would be degrading and divisive.

Comment by Sweet Sue | 2008-04-05 17:02:02

Thanks for that comment, yttik. CNN is all over the Obama apologizes to McCain for the Ed Schultz “war monger” name callling story, but not a word about Rhodes calling Hillary a “fucking whore.”
Yesterday, guest host Sam Seder was defending Rhodes, characterizing her trash talk as “jokes.” Jokes with no set ups and no punch lines and no humor. What is so funny about “fucking whore.” I don’t get it.

Comment by llilytoo | 2008-04-05 17:25:36

When caught, they always say about sexist, or for that matter racist, remarks, oh it was ” a joke” . HA! The funniest part of all this is the idea it was any kind of joke! LOL!

You put it well. To me, all the Obammaniacs hyper shitting on Hillary only makes sense when one realizes BO isn’t a Dem at all, he just plays one on TV. To me, BO is plainly a Right Wing opertive….but what does that make the Dem Elite who endorsed him?

You folks on this site are way to nice. Hillary Clinton is someones mother, Geraldine Ferraro is someones mother. Just the idea that a person could walk around, on this here earth, and have that idea running through their minds, ‘Someone called my mother a ‘fucking whore’ (which I take to mean someone made a great effort to hurt my mom by debasing her to the lowest gender based socially despised level of debasement possible) and not have their response be to make an unending effort to personally remind the speaker of those words that the object of their debasement is a very real and cared about person, or to simply put a size 14 up there ass is a credit to something-upbringing, will power, not having any leave from work. It’s something that I am missing and greatfully would not stop me. Folks on this site, please keep up the metered tenor of the convo. I get much appreciated perspective.
