The Clinton campaign is being accused of lying about the hospital story that Hillary Clinton has told to audiences on the campaign trail. Now Fox News is parsing the history of the event that ABC fully published on its Web site (VIDEO below). In that video, Bryan Holman is shown telling Hillary the story that she tells on the trail. The NY Times has published a report in which O’Bleness Hospital said they did not turn her away. But, that isn’t what Bryan Holman said in the first place. I have confirmed with Deputy Holman that he did not say O’Bleness denied Ms. Bachtel. It was another hospital that denied her. He is also clear that she wasn’t denied over a co-payment as some have speculated. I will keep you updated here at NoQuarter as this story develops.
The thing you have to see is that this isn’t “THE HOSPITAL” in question. Bryan Holman said that after being denied, she went to another hospital.

“I’d like to tell you the story of a young woman I know that didn’t have health insurance . She worked in a little pizza place around here and she was pregnant worked for minimum wage . She went to the hospital, and the hospital told her she needed $100 up front, which she didn’t have of course didn’t make a lot of money . So they had billed her a couple of times for it. And uh, after getting pregnant she went back, like I say, she went back again, they told her she needed $100 she didn’t have . So they refused to see her because she had a bill and stuff and been there before. So she went to another local hospital . They seen her and stopped her labor and told her to come back in two days. Well before she got back within those two days her baby died . So they life-flighted her to Co…to a hospital in Columbus and within 15 days she died . And they come to find out that they had misdiagnosed what the problem was . And it was a smaller hospital, didn’t have the needs to take care of what she needed at that time. But um, her family and them think that if she had had good insurance and stuff and she was taken care of at the first hospital of course that had the medical means to take care of her that her and her baby of course would still be here. Its just you know the health insurance thing really needs to be addressed for people who you know work for minimum wage and different things.”

O’Bleness is 25 miles away and is the second hospital that Trina Bachtel went to for care. Deputy Holman is a friend of the family, so there is no reason to doubt him despite O’Bleness’s denials because they are the second hospital he mentions did give her some care, though a bit too late to save her obviously. We know from Deputy Holman’s account that Trina Bachtel’s child didn’t die at the facility she was denied at, so O’Bleness broke patient confidentiality for no reason beyond protecting their own behind. It was already known that Tray Dean Hutton died at O’Bleness, according to his obituary in the Daily Sentinel, a local newspaper.

SO MY QUESTION IS: What part of this doesn’t check out?
1. CLAIM: Hillary clearly states “I was told a story”
FACT: Bryan Holman tells hospital story to Hillary

2. CLAIM: Hillary was told that Trina Bachtel did not have insurance.
FACTS: Bryan Holman did tell Hillary she didn’t have insurance. The hospital at which her baby was still-born has broken patient confidentiality and said she had insurance. We know nothing about her insurance, or if she was charged a co-payment, but the Washington Post reported that Bachtel previously had thousands of dollars in hospital debt, which was paid off by 2005. Today, Deputy Holman was clear that the $100 wasn’t a co-payment. If she went to a hospital other than O’Bleness, as he reports, we don’t know what that hospital would have said about insurance. How it is possible that she would have had “thousands of dollars in hospital debt” before 2005, and suddenly have insurance?
3. CLAIM: She went to the hospital, and the hospital told her she needed $100 up front.
FACTS: This claim still is not refuted because Deputy Holman says she went to another hospital, which was O’Bleness. What this means is that we don’t know if she went to Holzer Medical or Pleasant Valley Hospital. Holman states she “she didn’t have of course didn’t make a lot of money.” And today, the deputy, and family friend, confirms that this wasn’t a co-payment.
4. CLAIM: Before she got back, within those two days her baby died.
FACTS: Her baby died August 1, 2007 at O’Bleness hospital.
5. CLAIM: “So they life-flighted her to C…to a hospital in Columbus and within 15 days she died.”
FACTS: Trina Bachtel died two weeks later “August 15, 2007, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus” according to her obituary in the Daily Sentinel (local paper).
6. CLAIM: Hillary told a false story.
FACT: No! Hillary told the story she was told. And why would they need have fact-checked it beyond the word of the local sheriff who is a friend of the family without going to the family itself and saying “did she have insurance”? This is anachronistic hindsight. But we know that the friend of the family, a DEPUTY SHERIFF said, “Her family and them think that if she had had good insurance and stuff and she was taken care of at the first hospital of course that had the medical means to take care of her that her and her baby of course would still be here” . So are we now going to ignore the word of a deputy who is close to the family? The last time I checked, a deputy is considered a reliable source with whom to confirm a story.

Hillary told the story dead on according what she was told, and there is still no refutation of these claims. O’Bleness can say she wasn’t denied, but that isn’t what Holman said, as he said O’Bleness took her in. O’Bleness is where the child died, consistent with story.
The whole story is still quite intact and it is unfortunate that the Clinton campaign has backed off the story out, perhaps being gun-shy at this point, and that Bryan Holman’s credibility has been impugned for no reason. He didn’t mention which hospitals or her name, but now we have hindsight to get this info. But here’s the info, you tell me: What is false about this story.

Will the various press outlets, YouTubers and bloggers update it, or will they continue to call Hillary a liar when I’ve clearly demonstrated she didn’t lie. And Bryan Holman doesn’t appear to have lied at all. The story still demonstrates the messed-up health system that left a young woman and her child dead within two weeks of each other, and leaves her family in anguish.
When I told Deputy Holman that I had surfaced a good dozen stories about people being denied around the country for money besides this, he said, “Man, I could give you tons more stories than that, it’s crazy how many people have faced it around here.”

This line of attack—by DEMOCRATS—on Hillary is

The larger question here is that UHC has been smoked by a combo of the press Obama and Clinton herself.
I’d also point something out here about Clinton’s behaviour in earlier debates and state contests.
A Clinton surrogate pooh poohed the Nataline story as something ripped from the headlines. She didn’t speak up when the press accused Edwards of demagoging on Nataline’s family’s behalf. She also ripped Edwards for supporting policies that were just shy of UHC standards in 2004. So now she is getting a taste of her own medicine. And we won’t get UHC because of her and Obama’s electioneering.
Her team have contributed to this poisonous atmosphere only a fraction less than Obama’s. Just as Obama’s cynical ads resurrected Harry and Louise she capitalized on the press calling Edwards a demagogic class warrior in Iowa, and she let him swing as th erest of the field lined up to smack Edwards around for MOVING TOWARD UHC as he evolved as a political leader.

Actually the Natalie S. case was a terrible
example on which to have a discussion of health care.
Quite likely she simply wasn’t a good candidate for the transplant. This is a separate question from how the insurance company behaved, which was truly vile.
The Natalie S. case involved a treatment that would have cost an enormous sum—over $1 million, right?
In contrast, this woman died for lack of $100. That should happen in no civilized country.

I have a reasonably clear memory of how this primary went down. She can’t complain for being roughly handled by the press on this issue because she encouraged EXACTLY the same treatment of other candidates.

Just saw MSNBC for a few minutes this morning, when they were talking -uh,laughing(??!?) about this story.
Can’t watch for more than a few minutes because they make me want to throw up. Makes it difficult because I think they should be monitored constantly and called constantly for their disgusting coverage. But it requires a very strong stomach. Maybe we could set up some kind of rotation.
Anyway, they mentioned the story and Hillary with total contempt. Literally, one or two of them were laughing, kind of ”there she goes again, our Alzheimer’s ditzy woman candidate, what can we do with this woman’s lies, lets just treat her like our crazy silly but almost lovable aunt. You know how women are.”
So disgusting - not only to Clinton but to the millions of people suffering and dying under this health care system. And that they report this without knowing the facts. That doesn’t stop them when they have a chance to slam Clinton. Why should it, there’s no accountability. We’ve all been boycotting, but that is not enough.
Let’s not forget who are their main sponsors - drug companies, insurance companies.

That’s the whole point of the story. The entire rationale for UHC has been undermined.
First by trashing Edwards as a demagogue (Obama, Clinton, Dodd, Richardson and Biden all contributed this lambasting btw), then by making Kucinich the UFO candidate, then Obama resurected Harry and Lousie, and now Clinton is being called a demagogue.

Hillary never mentions neither Trina’s name nor the specific hospital in her telling of this story. Deputy Holman doesn’t either. So O’Bleness not only breaks patient confidentiality to deny a story which didn’t name them but also hides behind patient confidentiality to refuse to answer other questions.

My concern is that Trina Bachtel her son Tray are being ignored in preference to destroy Clinton. This is a pathology in the media and the blogosphere.
The rabid folks who hate have decided facts don’t really matter. Trashing a deputy’s reputation and family’s grief is a consequence of these events. I hope the efforts to get the story straight restore their chance to have a peaceful life.
Look friends, this part of Ohio already has enough issue and they don’t need the nation telling lies about their problems. Hillary Clinton told the truth about the story and was called a LIAR. It is depressing how the right and the left inside and outside the media have targeted Senator Clinton. This is going on for many months. As far as media insiders are concerned, they are pulling for a McCain-Obama match-up in fall. This morning I heard Tim Russert talking about this week’s appearance of General Petraeus before Senate committees. And in this context, he highlighted Senator McCain’s and one of his son’s and perhaps soon another son’s military service and how difficult the critical positions of Clinton and Obama are. It sounded like an endorsement for McCain.

Perhaps you could give some time now to Obama’s lies about JFK, the Selma peace march, his nuclear legislation and so on. The press has been so biased that it is just a crime. Senator Clinton has millions of supporters and we have been subjected to numberous insults from the Obama camp. Let’s be fair shall we?
Large entities such as hospitals often share some of the same outside consultants, service firms and vendors. Administrators and board members from hospitals around the country, I suppose, regularly share information and communicate. Is it possible that Michelle Obama had a hand in this story getting pimped?

I believed the story all along…I have learned NOT to trust any MSM anytime. The gist is right on and the point is the need for equitable health care. Thanks for this. Looks like they’ve done some homework and are now verifying most of the story. It was a clinic that denied her because of past medical bills. Wonder if the sanctimonious talking heads will issue an apology to her family, her friend, and to Hillary for misrepresenting Hillary’s account of it? Or even report that it was mostly correct.
This piece of shit response by Associated Press should be seen for what it is, a piece of shit. Yes it partly confirms the original story, but it leaves the impression that there are ‘errors’ in the story, but does not demonstrate them. It is a bunch of toe staring reporting.

Hillary will be on Morning Joe, MSNBC, at 6:20 AM ET. I just emailed him a link to this story here on No Quarter and read him and Mika, the Obama cultist, the riot act for repeating lie after lie after lie ALL DAY LONG. The TRUTH about this was known very early today and they continued repeating the lies after the TRUTH was known. I’m anxious to see if he corrects this tomorrow BEFORE he interviews Hillary.

Is it a good idea to look more into Obama’s past? Maybe his involvement with Rev. Wright, the disgraced Tony Rezko? How about his association with the self-proclaimed Pentagon terrorist, William C. Ayers?
Perhaps, Obama’s association with the lover boy Larry Sinclaire?
Let’s see what happens to Obama within the next 60 days. If I were to bet, I would say that he will be toast!

I just sent this to an ABC News Blogpost - and I want to post it here as well:
I was a student at Ohio University. In my Junior year I was treated at O’bleness after calling 911 on myself. I could not stop getting sick. They picked me up in an ambulance - took me to the hospital where they told me I was on drugs (I have never been a drug user) and I was sent home. A short while later I could no longer take it, and I called 911 on myself again. I went downstairs to wait for the Ambulance. I don’t remember what happened after that, but apparently I was found passed out in the snow in a tank top and shorts. My appendix had burst. We never considered pressing charges, this happened years ago, and I did have insurance. But I can guarantee anyone out there, O’bleness is definitely a hospital that will turn anyone away.

Assuming either the Left Wing or the Right Wing gained control of the country, it would probably fly around in circles.
I knew Trina and her family and this happened in my hometown. I know both Hospitals and I myself can tell you the finger should be pointed at Holzer! I work at another local hospital and I have very good insurance, and all I should pay when I go to see a Dr. is $15. BUT when you go to Holzer Clinic ya better have $100. in your pocket just so you can be seen… DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE? NO!!!!! Just one reason I don’t Dr. there anymore. How can you charge someone that $100. even if they have insurance and it should only cost me $15. SCREWED UP IF YA ASK ME!
I know of another family that had a medical card for their son and just cause they didn’t have a copy of it with them at the time of visit, they told them they would have to pay $100. There again I know there is a number you can call and verify a medical card number threw the state of Ohio. Then the same parents at another time took this same child to the clinic and was told since they lived out of the county they couldn’t see the patient. They would have to drive another 40min. to the main hospital in Gallipolis and takin threw the ER in order to be seen.
Anyway……. God Bless the Bachtel family and all this crap they have had to put up with from the media. They doesn’t the media look into HOLZER!
