Has anyone explored the thought that Barack Obama is an Arab? He has three Arabic names and his father was classified as Arab African. Spanish Harlem can be a tough area for those unfamiliar with urban living. Often tougher than Harlem, especially during the 80s. A lot of crack and drugs in the area. I have never had a problem, but for some it could be. But being on the other side, the south side, there is an almost remarkable transition in real estate, going from tenements to better kept buildings. I wouldn't call any of the buildings south of East 96th street dicey. I know this because whenever I take the Lexington Ave bus I always marvel at the almost radical transformation in apt buildings. And at that time it was very radical. That area also tends to be exclusively white as it is the very beginning of NYC's posh Upper East Side. Of course it gets ritzier the farther south you go.
