Obama Invokes Jay-Z: “Stab the Ladies…Middle Finga To The Law”

A whole lot of fuss has been made about Obama’s possible flipping of the middle finger to Hillary in response to his treatment during Wednesday’s debate as something less than Baby Jesus. If he in fact intended to flip her off, his gesture marks a new low in a campaign that was supposedly predicated on high-mindedness.

Obama’s invocation of Jay-Z’s defiant “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” battle anthem during the same speech adds evidence to the claim that he gave Hillary the finger.

To see Obama brush his shoulders off, go to 2:25 of this video clip.

Obama’s gesture prompted a mash-up video that made the Jay-Z/Obama connection explicit. Ari Melber, the other Obamabot named Ari at The Nation, posted the video on The Nation’s website, noting, “Obama really is a Jay-Z fan, too. When asked which hip hop artists he likes in a recent interview, he said, ‘lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Jay-Z — this new American Gangster album.’”

Spencer Ackerman, another young white male media Obamaton, called Obama’s gesture “perhaps the coolest subliminal cultural reference in the history of American politics.”

So what is the hype about? What did Jay-Z actually say that captivated Barack Obama? Here is the hook and first verse to the new theme song of Obama ‘08:

[Chorus: Jay-Z]
If you feelin’ like a pimp nigga, go and brush your shoulders off
Ladies is pimps too, go and brush your shoulders off
Niggaz is crazy baby, don’t forget that boy told you
Get, that, dirt off your shoulder

[Verse One]
I probably owe it to y’all, probably to be locked by the force
Tryin to hustle some things, that go with the Porsche
Feelin no remorse, feelin like my hand was forced
Middle finger to the law, nigga grippin ma balls
Stab the ladies they love me
, from the bleachers they screamin
All the ballers is bouncin, they like the way I be leanin
All the rappers be hatin, off the track that I’m makin
But all the hustlers they love it just to see one of us make it
Came from the bottom the bottom, to the Top of the Pops
Nigga London, Japan and I’m straight off the block
Like a running back, get it man, I’m straight off the block
I can run it back nigga cause I’m straight with the Roc
=

Obama hasn’t flipped a “middle finga to the law” but to Hillary instead (his godfather Tony Rezko and possible financial angel Nadmi Auchi were the ones flicking off the law). He got his clock cleaned in a debate about his closest associates, his domestic policy proposals and national security credentials, but after a quick, not-so-subliminal reference to Jay-Hova, Obama’s back to “feelin’ like a pimp.”

But don’t blame Obama if you don’t like his reaction. He’s never responsible. George Stephanopoulos and ABC forced him to behave like a wannabe American gangster.

Too funny… you sub-conciously acknowledge the vacuuousness of this whole meme - then pick it up and try and advance the ball a little further.

Then you try and attempt a little psycho analysis and motive speculation based upon the words of a song that you believe Obama is directly referencing w/ the “brush it off” nonsense.

I’m tellin’ ya… you people are in rare form today. Be proud and keep it up.

US News and World Report:

‘ If Obama did this on purpose, it’s a sign of incredible immaturity. If he did it by accident, it’s a sign of inexperience. If a president were to make an accidental gesture like that while talking about a foreign leader, for example, it could cause a global uproar. ‘

You know, some people think rap was set up as a joke, to mock.

White boys don’t get out much, do they?

Well, you read it, and he got laughs, and it fits his style, and he’ll of course deny it. Seems to me he’s been hot under the collar since she answered a question he’d gotten first much better than he had. He seemed very unprepared, to debate. And now he says no more debates? He’s acting like a child, and if he didn’t flip her off and then take his bow, he sure seemed to enjoy his moment. He gives himself away, he waits for the audience reaction and then he acknowledges it. But maybe he was tired an his face was itchy, and maybe his campaign chose to put that one up for some other reason than to titillate his audience and drive speculation on Fox news. I’m sure there are no ad executives on his staff, and I’m nearly certain there isn’t going to be a Barack, the Movie, and he hasn’t been discussing who’ll play him either. It’s all very sincere, not scripted at all.

Comment by goldengrahme | 2008-11-03 17:17:34

Surely you jest, Anna Shane. There is nothing that his manchild has done since he finished law school (as someone pointed out) that did not somehow advance his notion he deserved to be the first “black” president of these United.

Calculation and exquiste timing seem to be Barry’s strong suit. His delivery in the Raleigh video was calculated to pander to the black/white cultural divide. “Ain’t we cool; the ‘others’ jus don’t get it…we bad; we do what we want cuz no body stops us.”

No, in this climate of political correctness and lack of civility, try to stop him. He will scream racist! and run over you.

Hellavaway to elect the leader of our nation and free world.

It is unbelievable that there are videos of Obama saying the same speech in front of 2 separate audiences. At the same point in EACH speech, he takes his middle finger and pretends to scratch his nose. It is at the point where he says “Hillay is in her element”. I have seen this gesture before. The audience understands what he has done. They are in on the joke. Their response is inappropriate if they don’t get the gesture. Like I said, there are 2 separate videos with 2 separate audiences. The speech was pre written as they are identical. At the same point in each speech, he does the stupid gesture. the one video, from ABC news http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4675790&affil=wtae (there is also a You tube video of the ABC one) shows the best angle and in listening to it you get the irrefutable proof. The other video is very similar but not quite as obvious, but you get the point. The audience in that video are less in on the joke. Notice the different people in the audiences even though he has the same suit and tie on.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNO58WdUptUIt is best to use 2 laptops and watch bot at the same time. It is shocking that he would do something this stupid. Can you say Maccaca?

It’s Obama’s new campaign slogan.

Hakuna Makaka.

I love that song.

Comment by Vnd | 2008-04-18 20:40:13

I was very confused by all the different camera angles, especially the mydd video vs. the others. There was some distance between Obama and the audience behind him, but I think they looked a lot closer on camera. Playing the videos at the same time in separate windows, however, the audio seemed to be the same so I think it was just the one event.

Comment by Contradictioncntr | 2008-04-19 01:28:30

I HOPE YOU ARE SENDING THIS IN TO EVERY SINGLE NETWORK!!! I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WERE 2 DIFFERENT VIDEOS…THAT PRETTY MUCH SECURES IT - IT WAS INTENTIONAL - WOW, CAN THIS PLAYER GET ANY MORE PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE? CAN OUR MEDIA GET ANY MORE BLIND? If there are 2 clips of him doing the SAME gesture in 2 different speeches - THAT IS BIG NEWS.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-04-19 08:41:13

They are from the same event. The same man is sitting behind Obama. They are just different camera angles.

Comment by alibe | 2008-04-19 11:40:36

no, they are separate events. I played them on two laptops. Qued them up to the same point. They are different. The audience members behind him are different. make sure you are looking at the two diffewrent ones. Sometimes I have run into videos of the same speech from diferent angles. I want to know how many speeches Obama gave on that same day. I recently ran into a third video that is sort of chopped up but looks like he may have done 3 events. Is that possible???

Comment by thomas Schaller | 2008-04-19 18:47:12

to “alibe”

it is the same speech - different camera angles. and he had an itch. move on

Comment by horsemeat | 2008-04-20 17:02:13

This is definitely the same event on the two videos. Of course you see different audience members because the cameras are looking from two different angles, across the room from each other.

I have a hard time believing every “uhm” and pause, and all audience reactions could be “scripted” for two different events. Open the videos in different tabs on your browser, pause them at the same place, and then play both… Same speech, folks.

Just stick to the facts and convince us why we should vote for him.

I do rip nonsense statements and accusations that are salacious, specious or just plain insane.

As I’ve stated here and on other sites, I’m not particulary enamored of either Dem candidate… so don’t expect me to tell you why you should vote for someone you’ve already decided not to… that would be a waste of time.

I all your postings are about attacking the posters on this site never once I have ever heard you make a argument for your candidate. You are dismissive of anyone who has an opinion counter to yours. I would like to hear you tell us Obama is the better candidate without using Hillary as a reference. I would like you to explain why given his enormous advantage in fund raising why he can only garner 50% of the Democratic vote. And I would like for you to explain what kind of coalitions do you think he can put together to win the general election.
Oh by the way do you know what his economic advisors stand for.

Comment by Catriley | 2008-04-18 17:37:27

Ya notice that the trolls never actually get involved in the threads that have the real dirt on Obama? Because there is no defense there. They like to come onto the threads that discuss things that might be subjective.

Someone earlier today commented several times that, as a former Obama supporter, they were privvy to emails calling folks to come onto the blog and start shit today. Wish they’d post a paragraph from it. It’s far too obvious that they’d attack en masse like that.

3. You’re presuming that in fact he did what you and others KNOW he did… well, you go right ahead with that action jackson.
4. Next time - if you’re going to try and engage… what say we stick to the topic and points made? Not like it would make a difference.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

And continue to prove my point. Thanks

Comment by grtphoto | 2008-04-18 17:08:08

I didn’t prove your post, totally illogical. What are you doing but accuse? You have defended one thing that Obama has done and not done. Why don’t you list all his legislative accomplishments in the Illinois State Senate and all his legislative achievements in Congress. Would you include him not holding an oversight cmte. meeting on Afghanistan and NATO? These issues that we bring up are a matter of public record and are factual. Thank YOU for sharing!

Comment by Kevin | 2008-04-18 17:23:52

Actually grt… You did prove my initial point because rather than speak to it, you went off on a completely different tangent - specifically accusing me of “defending his disgusting and imature behavior”, which is why I asked you to show an example.

Saying an action isn’t what it’s being portrayed as is not the same as defending an action.

You’re welcome, have a great weekend.

I’ll engage with you over the issues. What did you think of Mr. Obama’s answer about giving white’s preference in getting into college over blacks. He is against affirmative action. Personally, I find that funny, since both Clinton’s fought hard for equal rights for blacks, but, I guess the color of one’s skin does make a wise and experienced candidate. Was that just a teaser? And I guess the muslims gonna be happy cause he’s calling for them to have seperate lunchrooms at work, wear their burkas and morning prayer call. Equal opportunity, except I really don’t hear him calling for anything to benefit the black people. I guess the same old shit just under a different color.

There are alot of points to be made like his associations with shady people, his conservative economic advisors, on how he would retain private contractors in Iraq, on his lack of leadership on antiwar issues despite his rhetoric the list goes on and on but I know you have been told to come over here and play mischief. Well why don’t you take your $1.50 an hour they are playing you and go finish your homework and let the adults have a discussion.

You’re kidding right? Now we’re in a court of law… okay - if your “prosecution” rests on that clip (hmmmmmm were have we seen that before?) Then as I stated on an earlier thread - there’s more footage from previous debates, interviews and appearances where he does the same thing (scratch w/ middle finger) that undermine your premise.

“It’s up to him to prove it” Ummmmm, how about a formal accusation then.

Riddle me this - why didn’t Hillary comment about it last night or at any point since? Why is it that only in one narrow niche that this is getting play and support? Like everything else, if it’s so good how could an experienced Politician or better still her campaign staff (who get paid to do it) push this issue more???

Silly me, that’s right, it’s part of the “media plot and campaign against Hillary and/or their continuing coddling of Obama” - better still both
I’m sure you or another commenter would say.

That was arguably the best performance Clinton has given in a televised debate… and in the second hshe outlined policy, made some good points and got in a couple of good shots throughout.

Yet rather than touting, elaborating, proselytizing, etc. - this is what the true faithful spend their energy and passion on.

Alrighty then…

Comment by deke | 2008-04-18 18:08:21

Kevin this isn’t about Hillary it is about Obama and this isn’t about English 101. In the court of public opinion you are guilty until proven innocent and until Obama denies it a give a plausible explanation it is assumed to be correct.
There can be no verifiable explanation but he has to address it. Attacking Clinton is not a defense but rather a tactic which the right wing and now the lunatic left adopt.
So attack Hillary don’t address the issues which you from your language don’t know or understand. If you want to compare progressive credentials I will surely put mine up to yours and I am sure you will come up short.
Obama claim to strength is he is a new type of politican and a agent of change. What this campaign has shown is Obama is just a typical Chicago political hack who cannot produce change.
You came here to either put down Clinton supporters or came to convince us of his worthiness to hold the office of President of The United States. What you have done is harden our support and drive us to McCain. And in case you forgot he was Kerry first choice for VP.

SO KEVIN CONVINCE WHY I SHOULD VOTE FOR OBAMA AFTER ALL HE WILL NEED ALL OF HILLARY’S SUPPORTERS OR GO BACK TO YOUR HOMEWORK AND QUIT TRY TO IMPRESS YOUR ENGLISH TEACHER

Ralph really needs to hang it up. I recognize and remember his fame when it was fame. But those days are gone, really. I know it’s hard for Ralph to realize he just isn’t America’s hero any longer, but he really needs to deal with it personally not publicly. As it is he has gone done in recent history as the man who gave us Bush, whether he rationalizes he didn’t or not. Look, I am all for a third party, believe me. But the last thing we need is another extremist cliff. God knows we already have that loud fringe in our party as it is, not to mention the Republican fringe. Extremism is the path to destruction in this country. Just take a look at what Bush did. Now Obama wants to finish us off. The last thing we need is Ralph’s brand of extremism. You know, it’s not even that he’s wrong on some things, he’s not. It’s just him. Ralph. He’s abrasive and nobody likes him anymore. I know that’s hard for him to take but he’s not warning people about the danger of Corvairs and Pintos any longer and he needs to know that.

I just posted this on your Fox thread but it relates directly to this one.

This is from PoliGazette. It’s apparently more than just giving Hillary the finger. From what this says, quite a few of his gestures are in rapper code.

He was in North Carolina. I’m assuming that he had a predominately black audience.

POLIGAZETTE
“Watch the video, and longer ones; he didn’t just give Hillary the finger, he also ‘brushed the dirt’ of his shoulder (imitation of rappers) and, and this is insulting, he made the move that indicates that he takes the shit off his shoes (Clinton). So, he basically called Clinton ‘dirt,’ shit’ and gave her the finger.”

there is no way this souless hack will ever be president. his legions of obamabots should maybe move to kenya and get it on over there.

….I’d rather be an obamabot than a bushbot, because the latter cares nothing about the American people (particulary people of color)….. now that obama has won, I can see most people around the world and in America share my views…. republicians are warmongers, and their foriegn policies has always reflected that…… So, so-what if obama gave her the finger (although she’s no republician, but nor is she colored), he’s only doing what most people in and out of this great country has been aching to do for centries now……. And for all those who believe I’m playing the race card, you’re right; I am….. we’ve been playing this card game for centuries now so lets not fool ourselves into believing such a game isn’t being played, lets stop acting shocked when a “race” card in this american game is played… stop acting like I’m playing this card game with poker rules. The race game is the only thing that can explain why he is “the first black president”.

My son brought a friend over. I was playing was online e-mailing “Obama’s Fikle Finger of Fate” video to everyone and I asked my son if he had already seen Barry’s fingering himself (if he wasn’t fingerin Hillary …).

My son’s friend whispered to him “it’s okay to say Hillary?” What? He told us that if he says “Hillary” in his house, his mom and dad make him leave the home. YES. THEY MAKE THE BOY LEAVE THE HOUSE IF HE SAYS HILLARY.

Obama does’t have supporters. He has followers. That is by design. The way to follow a false prophet.

I have to tell you that they (son and friends) are not of voting age and they are not in goose step with the “Yutes Vote for Obama” older voters.

By Big Tent Democrat, Section Media

Speaking for me only

In a response I took to be directed at Jerome Armstrong, Tom Watson and me, Markos writes:

You know those rabid Clinton supporters who think everyone is a sellout because of inadequate Hlllary worship (like this site, Keith Olbermann, Howard Dean, Stephanie Miller, etc)
I do not know what Howard Dean and Stephanie Miller have to do with it, but if Kos is equating his site to Olbermann’s antics, that is saying he is proud to be a Hillary Hater. But to bring Markos back to the point, he endorsed this:

It’s bizarre, but I don’t really consider [Hillary Clinton] a Dem any more.
If refraining from saying Hillary Clinton is not a Democrat constitutes Hillary worship for Daily Kos, I think he confirms my point - the destruction of the Clinton Wing of the Party, Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Legacy is what his web site is about now. Drumming Clinton supporters out of the Democratic Party is what his web site is about. If that is what Barack Obama’s campaign will be about in November, he will lose. The Creative Class Wing of the Democratic Party is not enough.

Really, think about it, who sets the agenda, politically in this country?

It isn’t K$$, don’t waste your time, he’s only important to a certain subset of bloggers, who in and of themselves aren’t really important.

K@@ is less important than Trippi, and Trippi is a joke.

Don’t ascribe more importance to him, try to see him as someone else’s tool, his enemy’s, and you’ll get a better picture.

I think any of the K** offshoot bloggers are far more relevant in terms of gauging mood, and direction.

They certainly are more intelligent, and they certainly are respected as more relevant.

I mean, all in all, SF is a joke.

What was the last organic intelligent thing to come out of there?

I don’t care if the finger flak is silly, damn, at least its getting some air time. Unlike the REAL dirt on Obama! It isn’t the fault of Hillary supporters that this is the kind of story the media likes. Don’t know if you noticed, but most reporters are intellectually lazy. TV is news is vapid by its nature. Go “fingergate” GO! Do what real news can not!

Comment by jocelyn | 2008-04-18 17:04:32

We are only opening ourselves up for more faux charges of racisim. We are going to go on the attack re: non-issues that at least we can try to get air time for the outright lies he told in the debate. I really believe this will blow up in our face (no matter how unfair it is we need to be smart and deal with reality).

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-04-18 17:12:42

Truth is lettin off steam is one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed this blog and there are folks here that make me laugh. I don’t want to be too PC, but I also don’t want to get too carried away.

Comment by Vimes | 2008-04-18 17:21:30

Okay, the ‘finger thing’ may be vapid, but appearantly that is how to talk to the Cultists (admittedly, logic doesn’t impress them) since that is their MO (dark video et al). But, my issue with the video is the arm action he did. Before I even read the comments, I was offended. I’ve seen the arm action before and it doesn’t mean stab to me.

Comment by jocelyn | 2008-04-18 17:33:50

I am not saying that people don’t have the right to be offended. And I can only speak from my own experience. When I fight with folks about the issues, they will (usually) concede that Hillary has the better ideas and policy. But the minute they have any hook to attack Hillary (especially on the race issue) people no longer care. They feel entitled to bash her in the name of racial justice. I know this is nonsense (I am a black woman strongly for Hillary and was furious when we got trashed over SC and Ferroro.) There is no way to “win” the race argument. But we can win by pointing out how phony BO is, and how many lies he’s told and how his health care policy is not really progressive.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-18 18:11:49

There is no way to “win” the race argument.

Yes, actually, there is.

I don’t consider myself a racist, I do my best to strive to be aware of my bias, my own cultural upbringings, to be fair. I despise elitism of any sort, esp as I see those with the least to offer feasting off false notions of superiority.

So, I have truth, here, and for me, well, I can take that hit, a bunch of stupid people using that old racism chestnut to bolster and camouflage a terrorist associating politician.

It’s about so much more than Barry, why would I allow liars to dictate?

In the end, though, the black community will be hurt by Barry, he has already stolen money from poor AA’s, and now he is stealing credibility, and political leverage.

And THAT is a crime, too.

It’s the man’s pattern, Barry will set back AA politicans 100 years, when this is over.

Comment by jocelyn | 2008-04-18 18:29:59

Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I meant is that we cannot “win” in the current political environment at this time. I guess it depends on what is most important to people now. For me it is getting Hillary elected and finding the best way to do it, not to fight counter productive PC/racial wars. The last thing Hillary needs is for the Obombats to whip people up into a frenzy because we are attacking “black hip hop culture.”

Comment by 1950democrat | 2008-04-19 03:46:06

But aren’t the hip hop people already voting for Obama? He can whip them up himself. Maybe that’s what he was doing.

(Vision of Brazile using whip and chains on FL/MI.)

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-19 09:18:12

Actually, Jocelyn, to worry about that issue is to be blackmailed by spoiled, stupid children.

Hip hop culture is empty, and not controlled by the boys who ascribe to it. It was, IMO, a set up. Bullets, and violence are real, but they move both ways. The suburban white boys forget they don’t fight in a vacuum, they are no more than cowardly Cheneys, who only attack when they’re SURE the US can’t lose. And under his VP, it did. They’re really all no more than Private first class K@@.

Secondly, speaking of code, the use of this flatulent balloon, hip hop, is , IMO, being used by the bama to covertly threaten Clinton.

Sugary white frosting on a cake is not a threat, esp when someone else made the frosting for you, and you’re too stupid to understand.

In the words of a man I admire as both brilliant and erudite: “I smell beer.”

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-19 09:25:09

Used as a metaphor, bama is attacking with hip hop, again, when he should be defending hip hop.

But he’s too stupid to understand the abstract.

They are really THAT stupid.

War is hell for everybody, but especially for DUMB people, who rely on old technology, without intelligent human analysis.

I disagree. He will set OBAMA, his Winnie Mandela-wannbe harridan wife and his drooling, idiot brother-in-law back a ways. But his candidacy has not diminished my opinion of any number of bright, hard-working individuals whose ancestors came over on a different ship than mine.

Unless caught with a live boy or a dead girl, he will not be set back so far as was Gary Hart. But it will be almost that far.

Pray that someone finds Sinclair in a talkative mood (trolling a book deal may do it) and we can give the non-AA electorate a lesson on, “the Down - Low.”

There is no more useless an emotion than false pride.

If I have to bite your ear off to win…. Tyson put it best.

That is street fighting baby! And that is what Barry is doing here.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-19 09:46:50

I’m sad to say, but I have to disagree.

Like the democratic elite, and Barry, there is a failure to recognize HOW the American mainstream thinks, deep down, and AA’s, going in with a minority status, are already at a disadvantage.

The old saw about women having to work twice as hard to receive half the credit is applicable to AA’s, too.

Barry would have had to run a circumspect campaign to really advance the AA political culture, instead he goes in with the half wit Axelrod, and hip hop. And wait until the corruption is exposed. Have you been listening to Fox? It’s real, it’s relevant, and the democratic leadership is oblivious, doing NOTHING to mitigate the damage.

Who wants to be associated with such corrupt trash?

There is a failure to recognize how this is affecting the larger culture.

It’s the same reasoning that doesn’t allow Dean to understand WHY so many find Wright reprehensible, and WHY the bitterness remarks were so offensive, et al.

Obtuse elite.

Comment by jocelyn | 2008-04-19 13:06:31

This is precisely why I think all this “race” fighting is counter-productive. The AA community? Who exactly is that? Jayz, Oprah, Clearance Thomas, Maggie Williams? Or—more to the point, BO who had a father from the continent of Africa and was raised by a white woman far from the traditional ‘hood? This all nonsense. All Americans should be in favor of universal health care, more sensible economic policies, etc. The question for me is who is the most competent person to do it? This is why, and the ONLY reason why, I support Hillary (notwithstanding my “membership” in the AA community—whatever that is). We need a new paradigm. Let’s cut the shit and figure out the best way to get Hillary in the white house.

I agree with you. Obama’s silly, uncouth gestures are not the issue. They make me angry, as do the laughter and derision coming from his supporters. However, we need to focus on the more pressing issues and demonstrate once and for all that Senator Clinton’s supporters have a helluva lot more class than Obama’s.

More pressing issues are things like: Who will be the best person to guide this country through the difficult years ahead?

Hillary Clinton.

Nice role model for the Obamanerd. He obviously flipped her off. Can we stop pretending that “maybe”, “if he did”, “could he have”, “it looked like,” etc. Can we just please state as fact what obviously is fact? Are we afraid of getting sued? I wouldn’t worry about it. You can’t be sued for slander/libel if you tell the truth. Why don’t we all relax and tell the truth? It feels better.
And it’s the only thing that will set you free. Not fake “hope” not fake “change” — but good old fashioned truth. I know some people might be delicate souls and have never flipped anyone off. However, I most certainly have. This particular type of bird is the “I’m gonna flip you off, and pretend I’m not flipping you off” bird. Common bird to all of North America. Easily recognizable.
I am thinking that this nice little quality moment will surface on Saturday or Sunday in a nice big paper just in time for PA. –The one thing psychopaths have trouble controlling is their body language and inadvertant slips of the tongue. Bambi does both. His obnoxious little “witty” remarks that fall flat, and his absolute inability to think about his physical gestures. I noticed the other day they had an old clip of his on a “news” program. He was saying that no one on his staff ever said anything to Canadian officials about him weaseling on NAFTA.
The “reporter”: “never happened?”
The Obamanerd: “never happened.” He says this while nodding his head up and down. (note to Axelrove: tell Obama “no” is side-to-side, not up-and-down.)
Obama is one of the most (if not the most) obnoxious politicians (if not people) on the planet. His
cult followers exemplify the quality. They read him loud and clear.
Actually, the only Obama teammate that I see missing is Manson. Perhaps a pardon for Manson and he can take his place at the Mantel as well.

The mydd pictures are from the less innocuous incident. In the “primary” instance, his other fingers were nowhere near his middle finger. Check it out!

Comment by StatBabe | 2008-04-18 17:55:41

I hate to tell you this, but the mydd pictures ARE of the incident in question! WATCH the video provided in that post on mydd, and you will see that this is the point that everyone is saying that Obama “flipped off” Hillary. He didn’t, and it’s obvious that he didn’t, if you look at the video from the side–the one with the link on mydd.

I dislike Obama to the point where I am honestly considering writing in a candidate if Obama is the Democratic nominee. Hence, I would be the FIRST to let the guy have it, if what you were saying was true. But it isn’t true so we should admit this and move on. Otherwise, we who oppose Obama’s candidacy look pretty silly.

Jeez.. you had me going for a minute there. I actually thought for a minute some woman would willingly call herself “statBabe.” I was even coming up with a curt response about of course a female who would call herself “babe” would be an Obam-ite. I mean “Babe” couldn’t feel good about herself, would love to hang with the boys who make her feel juvenille and invisible. And therefore she would turn to “stats” (having taken one course no doubt at the local junior college) to make herself feel like she had credibility on some level. Still problematic even then…is the “babe.” Oh well, I’m glad it was just a joke and there isn’t some poor pathetic thing out there calling herself “babe.”

As for mydd? LMAO

Comment by StatBabe | 2008-04-18 18:25:56

Sandy, did you bother to WATCH the video from the side (i.e., not the stills that are posted on mydd)??? The video is here (although the link was up at mydd): http://www.ustream.tv/swf/3/viewer.111.swf?&loc=/&vid=355941 The point in the talk where he mentions “Hillary was in her element” is around 20:50 on the video. It’s obvious that he has two fingers up.

I don’t like the guy, and if you had bothered to read any of my other posts here, you would KNOW that! If you object to Obama, then at least, go after him for his questionable associations with terrorists, racist ministers, and that crook Tony Rezko. Better yet, go after Obama for his empty rhetoric, which is what I object to. But this finger business is just plain silly!

And yeah, I go by “StatBabe” because statistics is my profession, which, believe it or not, actually involves more than a course at the local junior college. My late father hung that moniker on me 18 years ago when I made a career change to statistics–at the time, my parents had CB radios so we ALL got monikers for the CB. I kept the moniker all these years as a way to honor my dead father so I don’t give a rat’s ass if it pisses you and the rest of the cyberworld off or not!

I detest Obama and have actually given a fair amount of money to Hillary Clinton’s campaign (at least, a lot of money to me) so PLEASE don’t tell me to quit drinking the Kool-Aid! Again, I refer you to the video from the side that clearly shows TWO FINGERS raised: http://www.ustream.tv/swf/3/viewer.111.swf?&loc=/&vid=355941 The specific place to look is between 20:54 to 20:56. This coincides with the point where Obama refers to Hillary being in her element. TWO FINGERS are clearly evident.

Now, if we could look inside that pinhead’s mind (Obama, that is), I’m quite sure that Obama probably WANTED to flip the bird at Hillary, but wanting to give the middle-finger salute and actully doing it are two different matters.

Comment by Palomino | 2008-04-18 19:33:52

Comment by alibe | 2008-04-18 20:10:58

There are two incidents and 1 is not as bad, but the other is unmistakeable. This is what the media is missing and here too

Comment by StatBabe | 2008-04-18 21:09:27

As much as I would like this to be true, look again–it’s the SAME speech taken from different angles! Take a look at the sign behind Obama–the reason that the people are different is the angle! The ABC video has people seated under the “GE” in “CHANGE” (and this is at the rightmost extreme of the word) while the YouTube video has people seated under the “CH” in “CHANGE”. So, sure, the people are different–they would HAVE to be different since we are looking at different angles.

Now, if you listen and observe carefully BOTH videos, it is a virtual impossibility to deliver the SAME speech with the SAME imperfections (the hesitations in his speech) and the SAME mannerisms (his body going EXACTLY the SAME way in BOTH videos throughout) in this entire clip to two different audiences.

I am willing to believe that the man has no shame in such matters. Obama has proven himself to be incredibly arrogant and actually seems to believe his own press. But this thing with the middle finger just doesn’t pass the smell test–not this contention about two identical speeches to two different audiences–not with the evidence presented thus far, not to mention the video taken from the side (located here: http://www.ustream.tv/swf/3/viewer.111.swf?&loc=/&vid=355941 cue to 20:54 for part in question) that clearly shows TWO FINGERS.

And, no, I am NOT trying to be condescending–I just hate for the pro-Hillary people to look silly in their criticism of “The One”.

Comment by rwc | 2008-04-18 23:17:03

Comment by alibe | 2008-04-19 11:52:47

There are TWO. Not just two angles. I watched them side by side on 2 laptops to be certain. Same words, same gesture..but slightly different. That’s why people see these differently. They are different. Can anyone find out his itinery and his speeches that day?

Northwest rain, the video you saw was from the front. Take a look at the video from the side at http://www.ustream.tv/swf/3/viewer.111.swf?&loc=/&vid=355941 and cue up to 20:54. You will SEE the two fingers from the side. I loathe Obama so I am only telling you this because this argument about the middle finger makes all of us in the Hillary camp look pretty silly.

Columbo strikes again. The case of the two Ties. (and two fingers).

Is the catcher calling for a inside curve, up and a way, or a slider down and in

Point being, if it is one or it’s two fingers doesn’t matter, Obama has been throwing spit balls.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-04-18 21:17:59

The photo shows him flipping the bird. I used to be a counselor for high school students — and they used this sort of hand signal ALL the time.

The fact that the audience understood the message — tells me that his actions were deliberate.

He is a fricking lawyer — and at some point in his college education he would have/should have had a class in public speaking. So any action like this IS deliberate and CARRIES a message to his supporters.

StatBabe -

Thank you for the link to that alternative view. I watched it several times.

From the side, Obama’s gesture does indeed look like a two-fingered scratch. But it is the TIMING of his comment (i.e., on Hillary “in her element”) with said scratch, plus the audience’s reaction that makes me think there was some smarmy, insulting intent behind this Obama’s gesture (even if unconscious). Why “scratch” at that particular moment, then follow it up with additional “stab” gestures, then pause with that big grin, as if he just delivered the cute, frat boy punchline? There’s something even Bush-like about that particular Obama smugness.

You’re right. We need to focus on the real reasons why Hillary is the better choice and forget this crap. It will come back to bite us.

Meanwhile, please understand the anger and frustration that led me (and others) to interpret Obama’s gesture as a “finger” to Hillary. His behavior has given us reason to suspect the worst.

I like your “nom de web.” Stats figure in my profession as well.

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-04-18 17:08:36

Thanks for the informative post. The finger gesture was quite obvious but I was kind of clueless on what the symbolism of the other gesture that evoked such audience response. I realize that the vocal Obama Cult will eat this up but it is really very unsettling to see a presidential candidate act in such a boorish and immature manner.

Is this really the type of candidate that the party wants to put forward to compete against McCain? Will people see Obama for who and what he is before it is too late?

I just sent the following reply to an e-mail from the DNC:

To Whom It May Concern:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFWTpYlU-UI

This reprehensible and very revealing behavior needs to be slapped down hard. It is one reason why I will not, in any circumstances, vote for Senator Barack Obama if he is the Democratic nominee.

I have voted as a Democrat since 1972, but my position this year is that we’ve survived eight years of George W. Bush and will survive four years of a President John McCain. And I am not alone in taking this position. Indeed, as the DNC is no doubt aware, recent polls have shown that some 30 percent of the Democratic base is seriously considering the same decision I’ve already reached.

If Senator Obama is the Democratic nominee, and if the presidential race looks at all tight in my state, I will reluctantly but definitely vote for Senator McCain. It will be my first time voting for a Republican presidential candidate, and it will be a vote cast against my desire to punish the Republicans for their years-long, often criminal enabling of George W. Bush.

But my vote will also be direct citizen action aimed at sending the severely underqualified Barack Obama back to the U.S. Senate–and aimed, frankly, at placing our country above what no longer feels like my party.

If the race is not tight, I will vote for Cynthia McKinney and for local candidates and issues. I may also vote for downticket Democrats on a case-by-case basis.

Like Senator Obama, perhaps the DNC also has come to admire Ronald Reagan. Here are a few words from the Gipper: “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party; my party left me.”

Comment by MC | 2008-04-18 17:27:27

Excellent comment Palomino.

Good job with the juxtaposing of the Reagan quote, that is certainly what is happening with at least half (the old half) the Democratic party today!

Exceptionally, well said. I have been a Democrat all of my life–yes, born into a Democratic household, and have been voting since 1976. I won’t vote McCain, but I also will NEVER vote Obama. I can sit it out in the dark for another 4 years. And, even though I am a Hillary State Delegate, I do NOT feel part of this Party any longer. As a woman and as a Latina, there seems to be no room for us at the Dean table.

Obama is a “rap video”, he relates himself to the theme of “getting over on and around the Man”! He has combined Elmer Gantry with Jay-Z, et al and has conned and hustled his way to his “Peter Principle” moment.

There is a very real reason Obama feels so insulated and entitled. Contrary to the hype, his fanatical supporters (media and otherwise), his website, his books, etc., Obama has never had to actually work for anything. Dissect his history, what little there is, and you will see nothing of any true “struggles”. All you will find is a profound ability to “get over”!

When Dean and MoveON chose him as Dean’s surrogate and heir to the “Dean machine” in 2004, his quest to get over on the white man was fulfilled.(http://burningatthegrassroots.com/barack.php)

This con job is not just about the run to be the Democratic nominee. It is about the control and direction of the Democratic party now and for the future. Dean/MoveOn/Soros/Axelrod have their candidate, and they think they have the Democratic party. The only thing standing in their way is HRC and us.

They may pull this scam off, but I will never move out of their their way. Nor will others who still believe in a democratic Democratic Party and process.

Comment by Vimes | 2008-04-18 17:37:47

I think that Dean is more worried over Obama’s supporters (being kind here)leaving the Dem party because petulant Obama would run Independent if he loses the primary. Yes, there are many similarities between Obama and his mentor, Lieberman.

anyone else find it funny his supporter are striking for accountability? Like, who’s supposed to be accountable? (Hillary says, “hold me accountable.” Also, some blogger told me that Barack was reading from a script he wrote on Colbert last night. I didn’t think those interview-like moments were scripts too, who knew? But it’s surprising that Hillary made fun of herself, and John made fun of himself, but Barack made fun of Hillary and with rather a mean spirit. I thought Colbert outed him, because Hillary is running on fixing the Bush mess, and it looks like Barack needs her to fix things before he can take over the screen. It’s all very petty and making it harder for me to imagine him as a president, we’ve had one frat boy already? but messages to his younger crowd, like Bush gave messages to his born-again crowd, I guess they don’t want the over thirty-five vote. Sure hope he can inspire his voters cause after these unpleasant and unnecessary insults, that women feel personally, seems he’s running on the narcissist ticket, and I don’t vote narcissist. Or at least not really childish temper narcissist.

Comment by Vimes | 2008-04-18 17:43:30

Comment by Vimes | 2008-04-18 18:58:05

To clarify: I’m referencing the movie “Logan’s Run” whereas anybody over 30 years old had to go to the ‘circle ‘ therefore to die for the good of society (because Old sucks). The blinking red crystal is a signifier that you are approaching 30. Seems to me that Obama’s ’supporters’ don’t understand that he is over 30, but he pretends otherwise; Such as his not too subtle distancing from the experienced voters, whom he knows he can not win.

Sorry, but I am offended by Obama as a female and an over 30 person and an intelligent being and a Democrat and…the list goes on.

Comment by wry | 2008-04-18 20:57:47

She’s 44 he’s 46 - that isn’t old but it isn’t young either.

I don’t know any 44 year old woman who refers to her marriage of 13 years as “we’re a young couple”

And that garbage about they just paid back their student loans…They mean their LAW School loans. They try to sound like 24 year olds or something.

I’m a sane person, very reasonable, but he’s starting to really freak me out with this stuff. From the Replacement Rev. quoting Ice Cube (or was it Ice T, definitely not Vanilla Ice?), to this…

twisting the knife” aka “stabbin’ “beating to death” and a lot of other filth. Do you speak to your parents like that? Or anyone else?

If where I were to make such inuendos and implied threats against you or anyone else you care for, I would expect you to take exception.

But you are not a man. You do not know what it takes to be a man. You do not know any thing but to expect others to provide you with mental room service. Take your fasination with the pancakes and bacon between your ears and listen up. You would not know a premise false or otherwise. if it bit you in the “I am Shocked” part of your brain.

In the debates Obama got his ass twisted because he has much to hide, can’t string two words together with um or ahh and had the “audasity” to look at his Oppenent with Overt Mal-intent. He does not know what it takes to be a man either, just like you.

Despite raps pretensions, and it is pretentious, it still doesn’t touch what, say, most of Iraq has to deal with, daily, in terms of violence. I would say most law enforcement has to deal with conditions far more chaotic than NWA. And then when a producer like Jimmy Iovine gets behind it, well, a flea just flew into a spider’s web, right?

Stupid boys bragging about ho’s and their willingness to murder look like Obama’s trolls — clueless, obtuse braggarts, so stupid, they can’t see how they’re being set up.

As if others don’t, um, murder back.

You didn’t even bother to watch the video link I posted: For there was only one Man in Black.

As for Rap, today’s rap is trash. But when Rap emerged on the music scene is was anti-gang and even anti-drug, it was positive.

Now listen to the lyrics from Grandmaster Flash’s White Lines…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGFn-Q_FN44

Don’t diss an enter genre because you don’t even know why it even emerged.

I loved the 80s. Not only because new music genres emerged (and synths finally got the respect it deserved, not as special genres like Isao Tomita’s instrumentals [when a synth was a size of a living room!] and Deodato’s acid jazz), it’s also when a socially responsible conscience was born.

Not every hick or homeboy is an idiot, Simon. Music knows no boundaries, it’s the key of universal understanding.

So much so, I’ll leave a song to all those busybodies who p*ss in folks Cheerios:

I know that some of you believe that this is a non-issue. Hillary’s campaign is the only one about issues, but this article is also about Barry taking this campaign to a new low, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with voicing that position.

I thought it was a well-known fact that BO was a big-time Jay-Z fan.

As a woman, I appreciate No Quarter posting this article. I was extremely offended on the night of the New Hampshire Primary when Barack Obama played Jay-Z’s 99 REASONS Rap Song. That was playing while Barack and Michelle were sauntering onto the stage while everyone in the audience was cheering, and later talking about how cool Barack was putting it to Hillary. Here’s a line from Jay-Z’s song:

99 REASONS
If your having girl problems I feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one

[Verse One]
I got the rap patrol on the gat patrol
Foes that wanna make sure my casket’s closed
Rap critics that say he’s “Money Cash Hoes”
I’m from the hood stupid what type of facts are those
If you grew up with holes in your zapitos
You’d celebrate the minute you was having doe
I’m like fuck critics you can kiss my whole asshole
If you don’t like my lyrics you can press fast forward
Got beef with radio if I don’t play they show
They don’t play my hits well I don’t give a shit SO
Rap mags try and use my black ass
So advertisers can give em more cash for ads…fuckers
I don’t know what you take me as
or understand the intelligence that Jay-Z has
I’m from rags to ritches nigga I ain’t dumb
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one
Hit me

I have heard about Chelsea being pimped out by Hillary. I have seen enough vulgar, misogynistic crap on DK and HuffPo to last me a life time. So, please don’t say that there’s something wrong with this post, and that we need to get back to serious issues. This is a serious issue.

Oh sorry, I sent that off before clarifying. I still think Hillary will get the nomination. I just don’t think Obama should be in this race at all.
Back when he made the first racist comments (that we got to hear about) and refused to disconnect from the demure Rev. Race-Baiter– the DNC should have stepped in and said, “NO.” We can not support you as one of our candidates. We will not sanction racism. But Coward Dean (as Uppity calls him) took no stand. No stand at all. So now we have this piece of garbage still in our primary. So it’s either Hillary or its McCain for me. I believe it will be HIllary because politicians are self-preserving by nature and they know that if they align themselves with the incredibly insane and nasty Obama, they will be chucked out of office or fail to be voted in. I know I will be making damn sure that happens in my state. Oh Senator Baucus.. watch your step. If you don’t endorse Hillary there’s a lot of Republicans and people like me who are gonna help you retire early!

You can email questions or send a vido clip.

That video from the Nation is dizzying in its cockiness.

Obama has all the maturity of the adolescent boys who worship him. I’m sure he’s throwing down signs and playing “black guy” all he can, just to give them a thrill.

He’s come a long way since the days of “hope” and “change”–which was only what, a few months back?

I can’t help thinking that if he makes those gestures about John McCain, he’s going to have a bunch of angry bad ass Vets hunting him down.

Comment by jes | 2008-04-18 18:10:07

Obama did it because she is a woman and he thinks that he can get away with insulting her. He knows he can’t intimidate her because she’s meaner and tougher than he is.

He wouldn’t have the guts to do this to McCain because Grandpa McCain would probably sneak into his house in the middle of the night and beat the crap out of him.

And then wipe his crappy shoes on Barack’s doorstep.

Harping about why would Obama scratch his face with his right hand when he is left handed, WHILE OBAMA INCREASED HIS LEAD OVER CLINTON

And Obama is getting endorsements:

Obama for President
The formal act of endorsing a candidate is generally (and properly)limited to editorial pages and elected officials whose constituents might be influenced by their choice. The rest of us shouldn’t assume anyone cares. My avoidance of offering a formal endorsement until now has also been affected by the pull of old friendships and my reluctance as a teacher and commentator to be openly partisan. But my conscience won’t let me be silent any longer.

I believe that Barack Obama should be elected President of the United States.

Although Hillary Clinton has offered solid and sensible policy proposals, Obama’s strike me as even more so. His plans for reforming Social Security and health care have a better chance of succeeding. His approaches to the housing crisis and the failures of our financial markets are sounder than hers. His ideas for improving our public schools and confronting the problems of poverty and inequality are more coherent and compelling. He has put forward the more enlightened foreign policy and the more thoughtful plan for controlling global warming.

He also presents the best chance of creating a new politics in which citizens become active participants rather than cynical spectators. He has energized many who had given up on politics. He has engaged young people to an extent not seen in decades. He has spoken about the most difficult problems our society faces, such as race, without spinning or simplifying. He has rightly identified the armies of lawyers and lobbyists that have commandeered our democracy, and pointed the way toward taking it back.

Finally, he offers the best hope of transcending the boundaries of class, race, and nationality that have divided us. His life history exemplifies this, as do his writings and his record of public service. For these same reasons, he offers the best possibility of restoring America’s moral authority in the world.

Obama, Bitterness, Meet the Press, and the Old Politics
I was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, 61 years ago. My father sold $1.98 cotton blouses to blue-collar women and women whose husbands worked in factories. Years later, I was secretary of labor of the United States, and I tried the best I could – which wasn’t nearly good enough – to help reverse one of the most troublesome trends America has faced: The stagnation of middle-class wages and the expansion of povety. Male hourly wages began to drop in the early 1970s, adjusted for inflation. The average man in his 30s is earning less than his father did thirty years ago. Yet America is far richer. Where did the money go? To the top.

Are Americans who have been left behind frustrated? Of course. And their frustrations, their anger and, yes, sometimes their bitterness, have been used since then — by demagogues, by nationalists and xenophobes, by radical conservatives, by political nuts and fanatical fruitcakes – to blame immigrants and foreign traders, to blame blacks and the poor, to blame “liberal elites,” to blame anyone and anything.

Rather than counter all this, the American media have wallowed in it. Some, like Fox News and talk radio, have given the haters and blamers their very own megaphones. The rest have merely “reported on” it. Instead of focusing on how to get Americans good jobs again; instead of admitting too many of our schools are failing and our kids are falling behind their contemporaries in Europe, Japan, and even China; instead of showing why we need a more progressive tax system to finance better schools and access to health care, and green technologies that might create new manufacturing jobs, our national discussion has been mired in the old politics.

Listen to this morning’s “Meet the Press” if you want an example. Tim Russert, one of the smartest guys on television, interviewed four political consultants – Carville and Matalin, Bob Schrum, and Michael Murphy. Political consultants are paid huge sums to help politicians spin words and avoid real talk. They’re part of the problem. And what do Russert and these four consultants talk about? The potential damage to Barack Obama from saying that lots of people in Pennsylvania are bitter that the economy has left them behind; about HRC’s spin on Obama’s words (he’s an “elitist,” she said); and John McCain’s similarly puerile attack.

Does Russert really believe he’s doing the nation a service for this parade of spin doctors talking about potential spins and the spin-offs from the words Obama used to state what everyone knows is true? Or is Russert merely in the business of selling TV airtime for a network that doesn’t give a hoot about its supposed commitment to the public interest but wants to up its ratings by pandering to the nation’s ongoing desire for gladiator entertainment instead of real talk about real problems.

We’re heading into the worst economic crisis in a half century or more. Many of the Americans who have been getting nowhere for decades are in even deeper trouble. Large numbers of people in Pennsylvania and across the nation are losing their homes and losing their jobs, and the situation is likely to grow worse. Consumers are at the end of their ropes, fuel and food costs are skyrocketing, they can’t go deeper into debt, they can’t pay their bills. They aren’t buying, which means every business from the auto industry to housing to even giant GE is hurting. Which means they’ll begin laying off more people, and as they do, we will experience an even more dangerous downward spiral.

Bitter? You ain’t seen nothing yet. And as much as people like Russert, Carville, Matalin, Schrum, and Murphy want to divert our attention from what’s really happening; as much as HRC and McCain seek to make political hay out of choices of words that can be spun cynically by the mindless spinners of the old politics; as much as demagogues on the right and left continue to try to channel the cumulative frustrations of Americans into a politics of resentment – all these attempts will, I hope, prove futile. Eighty percent of Americans know the nation is on the wrong track. The old politics, and the old media that feeds it, are irrelevant now.

Gator before you copy some talking points that were handed to you know what you are talking about and look in the issues. You mention the economy and you show or ignorance on the subject.
Obama 3 economic advisors are Goolsbee, Cutler, and Liebman. Goolsbee is a professor at the U of Chicago and a disciple of Milton Freedman and in case you didn’t know is the godfather of Reaganomics. He is a free market economist who believes that the market place should be the determining factor in health care. He is against single payer health care. Liebman is his economist on Health Care issue and thinks that increase in cost is good because it will drive market stratgies that will improve the quality of care. We have been down this road before. Liebman was in Clinton’s administration and was his advisor on SS issues. He recommended to Clinton that we should privatize Social Security a boon to Wall Street. He left the administration and wasn’t ask to participate in Hillary’s campaign.
Wall Street is in love with Obama for his advising team. He has gotten more in money from them than all the other candidates combined.
But you are attempting to talk about the issues.

TWO MORE SUPER DELEGATES (THAT’S 3 TODAY) ENDORSE OBAMA:

Boren, Nunn Endorse Obama

18 Apr 2008 12:24 pm

Two major stars of the Democratic foreign policy establishment — former Sens. Sam Nunn and David Boren, have just endorsed Barack Obama and have agreed to serve on his national security team. Nunn served as the Democratic Party’s coverman in foreign policy debates for two decades. He voted against the 1991 Gulf War and thereby gave many other Democrats permission to take that political risk. He’s a social conservative in many respects, too. More recently, Nunn has associated himself with the cause of nuclear nonproliferation. He spent 8 years as chairman of the Armed Services committee in the Senate. Boren left the Senate in 1994 and is a former chairman of what used to be called the Senate Select Committee on intelligence. He also spent 16 years as governor of Oklahoma. In the statements they provided to the Obama campaign, both Nunn and Boren sound Obama-esque notes. Here’s Nunn: “Demonizing the opposition, oversimplifying the issues, and dumbing down the political debate prevent our country from coming together to make tough decisions and tackle our biggest challenges.” Here’s Boren: ““Our most urgent task is to end the divisions in our country, to stop the political bickering, and to unite our talents and efforts. Americans of all persuasions are pleading with our political leaders to bring us together. I believe Senator Obama is sincerely committed to that effort. He has made a non-partisan approach to all issues a top priority.” Last summer, Boren held private talks with associates of Mayor Mike Bloomberg about a possible independent presidential bid.

Just asking: who was the latest major figure to endorse Hillary Clinton?TrackBack URL for this entry:

Hillary Adds Three Superdelegates Today
by Lindsay Levin
4/18/2008 5:51:28 PM

Former New Jersey Governors Jim Florio and Brendan Byrne pledged their support to Hillary Clinton today, after being chosen Thursday as add-on superdelegates. Their show of support comes the same day US Rep. Betty Sutton announced she too would support Clinton as a superdelegate.

“I am grateful for the support of both former New Jersey governors Byrne and Florio, as well as Rep. Sutton,” Clinton said. “Together, with their support and millions of others, we will deliver health care to every American, jumpstart the economy, and turn our great country around. Our campaign is experiencing great momentum.”

Brendan Byrne served as the 47th Governor of New Jersey from 1974 to 1982 and co-writes a weekly column with his successor Thomas Kean on state and national public affairs. James Florio was the first Italian American governor of New Jersey, serving from 1990 to 1994.

Rep. Sutton served eight years in the Ohio State House prior to being elected to represent Ohio’s 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006. Before being elected to Congress, she worked as a labor attorney fighting for the rights of Ohio’

The gansta motif suits the man.

I have to work this weekend so can’t rewatch the debate and make a list of his lies. there should be a thread about them with the quotes and reason why they are outrageous lies.

no handwriting on gun stance, no lobby money, disown (till called on it), just a guy in my neighborhood (same as he said about his farrakhan tie) he didn’t attack hillary about bosnia - what others?

Comment by stodghie | 2008-04-19 10:43:19

well in my humble opinion the rap and gansta culture doesn’t add that much to the aa community. i can see where to a point it would attrack attention and support. but i think it has reached current levels because tv and movies push it. if i was a member of the aa community i would be ticked off to see these influences being presented all the time in the media. i would want folks to know that there is much more to the community than that. also the long term influence of women bashing, violence, etc will have bad returns which we are seeing right now in obama’s use of it and the crowd’s reaction.

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-04-19 11:07:28

The ones adversely affected are the ones who aren’t going to church.

In Black communities the church is much more than just Sunday sermons, it’s a way of life. When they leave it for other persuits — a good example is Whitney Houston — they go down hill.

Gangsta rap and it’s offshoots exist, because the kids never got inspiration and sense of purpose hanging around on the street. Their God is some gang leader, their congregation is gang mates (can you imagine Snoop Dog in church??). Same can be said of the gang ridden Latino communities.

Someone needs to post the mashup here. The Nation seems to think it is great for Obama - but it simply confirms that Obama is out of touch with white midwestern middle class working people. Not being a hip hop fan myself, I didn’t even catch the white racist code until I saw it in the mashup. This once again shows that when Obama goes to the south he campaigns with racist code words and gestures. This clip is just the same as the bamboozled clips in South Carolina and Mississippi. It’s black racist code, just like Ronald Reagan’s white racist code in 1980. Perhaps this explains Obama’s admiration of Ronald Reagan.

Watch the clip. At 19:57 he touches is face and again at 20:57 he does the same with BOTH fingers. It’s the second one that people pay attention to because he mentions Clinton. But no one is saying anything about the one he does at 19:57. Throughout the speech he touches his face at least 5 times. A habit perhaps but not a flip off.

If you watch this clip (from a different angle) there is no doubt something happened based on the audience’s reaction. So what if he had two fingers most of the time, initially it looks like one and the crowd goes crazy:

The finger gesture is at 1:24 and the crowd laughs and claps; one woman doesn’t get the joke til 1:34 when her friend explains it, then she laughs like crazy. What else explains their laughter? He wasn’t speaking at the time. Unfortunately I doubt anyone present will tell us what happened.

It is unbelievable that there are videos of Obama saying the same speech in front of 2 separate audiences! Notice the different people in the audiences even though he has the same suit and tie on.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNO58WdUptUIt is best to use 2 laptops and watch both at the same time. It is shocking that he would do something this stupid. Can you say Maccaca?

Yes, this MUST get out.

Obama is poison to the democratic party.

The Obama surrogates has made race as an issue in this primary (with the blessings of the Obama campaign?) and race bait, too ,maybe as a counterpoint to whatever future controversies and scandals that Obama might have in the future. He has made race and race baiting the central portion of his campaign. It is with a certainty that Obama surrogates(with the blessings of the Obama campaign?) will answer every controversy and scandal with statements pertaining to race.

So what could the Clinton team (and surrogates) must do in order to counteract it? The only thing that they (Clinton team and surrogates) could really do is to be careful of what they say in public so that the other party (Obama team and surrogates) would not have any ammunition for race baiting. Because that is what it is. Race baiting.

Remember the time when the Somali tribal dress that Barack wore in 2006 and was leaked thru the Drudge Report? David Plouffe immidiately accused the Clinton team of ’shameful offensive fear-mongering’. Then there is the op-ed of Orlando Patterson in the NY times which tried to put race in the 3am ad of Sen. Clinton. To qoute the 1st paragraph of the op-ed:

“On first watching Hillary Clinton’s recent “It’s 3 a.m.” advertisement, I was left with an uneasy feeling that something was not quite right — something that went beyond my disappointment that she had decided to go negative. Repeated watching of the ad on YouTube increased my unease. I realized that I had only too often in my study of America’s racial history seen images much like these, and the sentiments to which they allude.” And that is only the 1st paragraph.

Then there is the latest “brushing the dirt off the shoulder” incident which the Obama surrogates(?) has linked to the Jay Z song, “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”, a racially charged song (see this web link and judge for yourself.)

This can be construed as race baiting tactics of the Obama team and surrogates. It only needs a spark which Geraldine Ferraro unfortunately started. That is why the Clinton team and surrogates must be very careful of what they say or email to each other.

Please forward to your friends because it is imperative that the American people know who the real Barack Obama is and the way it is seen by me is he wants the race card to be front and foremost always. This could be his strategy up to the GE ( in case he wins the primary) and, heaven forbid, up to the presidency ( in case he wins it.)

In order for me to change this perspective on Obama, he must prove to me by his actions that this perspective is wrong. Otherwise, it will just strenghten it.

Comment by alibe | 2008-04-18 20:21:42

This isn’t race based. It is the fact that he is crude and coarse and not ready for prime time. He is nuts to think he can use that gesture twice in the same day in front of two different audiences. the fact that he has done that and made the same gesture guarantees it was no accident. It was a deliberate slur against Hillary. But the real victim is Obama.

I wouldn’t worry about him getting to the Presidency. One thing you gotta give the Republicans — they know how to run a dirtier campaign than Obama could EVER come up with in his fevered imagination.

ITS WHAT THEY DO. They don’t govern competently but they will, quite cheerfully, gut him so ferociously that he’ll win D.C and Illinois (if he’s lucky).

And unlike the Democrats, they don’t give a rat’s ass if you call them racist. That only saves them from having to tap out the code.

I really enjoy the way he slurs the words, “Solraight” during his speech. Also, he clearly used his middle finger to make a subliminal point about his own supposed injustice during his speech.
Good God, this will be played in an endless loop during the GE, and it will go over so well with the over 35 crowd in the big 10 states. Why would I want another fucking idiot fratboy for my president?

is obama jut being rude to his opponent?

or petulant?

or

is he doing some “dog whistling” of his own.

his campaign having run the campaign they have,

depending on a strong black vote in some states as they have,

and there being substantial numbers of black voters in n. carolina,

i’m guessing the latter.

obama is whistling up support in n. carolina.

he needs to recover from the debate

and from what he fears will happen in penn,

based on his campaign’s polling.

Okay, I don’t think he flipped anyone off. Some of you believe he did. Fine. I get that.

Play along with me for a minute, though. This is purely hypothetical.

What if incontrovertible evidence proving beyond any shadow of any doubt popped up? How would those of you who claim to see the extended middle digit react?

*Would you apologize? Would you concede the error?

*Would you just move on to the next day’s mini-scandal, pretending as if nothing ever happened with Fingergate?

*Would you refuse to acknowledge the evidence, pretending as if it happened even though you would know better?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a three-way tie in terms of the response.

The finger is … plausibly deniable. But if there was really a pattern of gestures that links to a song with violent and/or racist lyrics — did Obama really say he got that song from his children?

Maybe that’s what they sing in Wright’s Sunday School?

This guy’s damage control seems to be going from bad to worse.

Wright tapes -> racist grandmother -> typical white person.

‘Guns and religion’ -> six-shooter in a duck blind and Annie Oakley.

Losing a debate -> gangster music -> got it from his children.

I’ve been reading blogs about this matter for the past two days and I find it very interesting that no one who was present at the event has written anything in Obama’s defense, that no one has come forward to explain why else the crowd chose that particular moment to laugh, clap and cheer. In a speech full of sly gestures, gestures count.

I AM AMAZED AT THE LATTITUDE THAT OBAMA IS GIVEN COMPARED TO THE FORMER PRESIDENT OR THE FORMER First Lady.
WHEN THE LITTLE PRECIOUS PULLED THE RACE CARD IN SC THE PRESS BLAMED BILL CLINTON , SCREAMED AND CARRIED ON, THEN HILLARY DARE NOT GET TO ROUGH WITH THE PRECIOUS ONE OR TED KENNEDY WILL THRASH HER OUT.
HOWEVER PRECIOUS CAN GIVE HER THE FINGER, CAN MAKE THE SOUNDS OF A KNIFE GOING IN, AS THOUGH SHE HAD KNIFED HIM IN THE DEBATE AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE MOTIONS OF BRUSHING HER OFF.
SORRY FOLKS THIS IS TOO MUCH MOB LIKE FOR MY THINKING. HE IS ACTING LIKE THE LEADER OF A STREET GANG. THIS IS TRULY THE LOWEST GUTTER ACTION I HAVE EVER WITNESSED BY SOMEONE ABOUT TO BE INSTALLED AS THE NOMINEE FOR THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. I SAY INSTALLED BECAUSE AFTER I HEARD HOW THEY ARE POLLING ONLY IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND INDEPENDENTS I NO LONGER BELIEVE THE POLLS. SO HE IS BEING INSTALLED, TOTALLY WITHOUT ANY OF THE PEOPLE S VOICES BEING G HEARD LET ALONE FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN, HE WON’T PERMIT THEM TO BE COUNTED. IS THIS REALLY AMERICA, THAT ONE LITTLE PRECIOUS CAN PREVENT 2 MILLION PEOPLES VOICES FROM BEING HEARD. WOW WAKE UP PEOPLE.

After lurking here for some time and enjoying the refreshing change from the usual “Obama-love” in other sites, I thought that I’d pitch in. I’m with statbabe on this one. The other angle shows that it wasn’t just the middle finger, and besides there was only one speech made. There is no point acting like the deranged Obama cult on Daily Kos or Huffington Post. However, it is also clear that many in the audience did think that he was insulting Hillary with a derogatory gesture, which says a lot about the people he attracts. In addition, and a lot more telling in my opinion, were the rest of the gestures that he made during the speech. The bump and grind a la Reverend Wright and the brushing off his shoulders emulation of a misogynist gangster rap song were despicable and unseemly. It clearly indicated that he is a lightweight, thin-skinned, not-ready-for-prime-time candidate, in the same mold as the current uncouth President who is an embarrassment every time he is abroad with his frat-boy antics. Hillary for President!

Comment by bullshitdetector | 2008-05-12 12:17:14

“brushing off his shoulders emulation of a misogynist gangster rap song”..

Has anyone taken the time to consider what the song means in CONTEXT?

Probably not, because then you’d all know that you are stupid for coming to the conclusions that I see here.

The song’s intent is to push the notion that a person should ignore detractors, especially those that have frivilous intentions, or meaningless issues to take up with you.

Brush them away, don’t address them. It has nothing to do for Obama about being a pimp, or stabbing women (also out of context, even for Jay-Z’s intent).

Now maybe Obama is using this to duck questions, or to passively sling mud back by saying “Look, I’m taking the ‘high road’ by brusing this off.

But only the the stupid people or those intending to misrepresent this could come to the conclusion that Obama seeks to align himself with gangster rap, or wants Hillary to get stabbed.
