Breaking: $10M in donations + 50,000 donors [Video Update]

On MSNBC, Clinton’s national chair Terry McCauliffe just announced that we’ve raised $10 million in cash since last night’s history-making election in Pennsylvania. There were 50,000+ donors. More cash is pouring in. She’ll need every penny we can spare because Obama, unbelievably (?), has endless cash flow. (Of course, he outspent her three-to-one in Pennsylvania, and still couldn’t win, or even come close.)

ALSO BREAKING: Hillary has snagged an important Tennessee superdelegate. “Rep. John Tanner, a prominent Blue Dog Democrat, backs [Hillary].”

UPDATE: Vet4Hill has created a terrific new video on Hillary’s lead in the popular vote … it’s just below the fold:

Special thanks to Claude for the tip on the MSNBC interview. Claude also reports that McCauliffe had to put up with questions from Andrea Mitchell, but he knows how to handle her and those kinds of questions.

And, here’s the official Clinton press release on John Tanner’s pledge:

Congressman John Tanner Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

On the heels of a strong victory in Pennsylvania, Congressman John Tanner today announced his endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President. Tanner represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District.

“I do not remember a time when our nation has faced the financial peril that confronts all Americans,” Congressman Tanner said. “To me, this election is not about politics as usual. I believe nothing less than our financial liberty and economic freedom are at stake.

“In my opinion, the best person to lead this critical effort is Hillary Clinton. Hillary is a smart, pragmatic leader who understands the grave situation our country faces, with a $9 trillion debt, much of which is borrowed from foreign countries. Now, more than ever, our nation needs a leader like Sen. Clinton who can work with others to return to fiscal sanity.”

Congressman John Tanner has represented Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District since 1989. As a co-founder of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition, Tanner is considered to be one of the leading voices in Congress for restoring fiscal responsibility to our nation’s government. Tanner serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He also chairs the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Tanner and his wife, Betty Ann, reside in Union City, Tennessee.

“I am honored to have the support of Congressman John Tanner,” said Hillary Clinton. “As co-founder of the Blue Dog Coalition, John has spent his career in Congress fighting to eliminate our national debt and restore fiscal soundness to our nation’s government. John is known as a common sense, results-oriented leader, and I look forward to having him join me in spreading my message of change and experience across America.”

Thank so much for this link! I’ll be forwarding it on to all that I know.

Speaking of Andrea Mitchell… I saw her early on Morning Joe right after Hillary had just spoken. Her contention is that despite PA, there are plenty of female Democrats — good friends of Hillary — that tell her that they really want to see Hillary back out now. She stopped, and looked down at her Blackberry, and started quoting from one of the many female, Democrat friends of Hillary that want her to bow out gracefully. According to the mystery Blackberry woman, “…just when it’s time for her to drop out, she has another win. Regardless… it’s time for Hillary to back out for the sake of the Party…”

Just wondering… who was that Democrat, Donna Brazille? That was such a Crock. No “good” friend of Hillary would ever back-stab her that way! I could see Mary Steenburgen anxiously texting Andrea Mitchell first thing after PA! Such shite!

I knew when they were throwing this out so early this morning, that they were going to spin, spin, spin like crazy for BO today. Mike Barnacle then responded with… “BO is too much of a nice guy. He really needs to throw her a good punch and knock her out..” This is all starting to look and feel like a media gang-rape. They have no shame whatsoever “punching her out” but yet, they treat BO as if he was their child. Or, as Maureen Dowd calls him, “the Blessed Child.” This is so pathologically sick and pathetic. They can’t even give Hillary a one day reprieve from the B.S.

They treat Obama like their child? Then explain why Chris Mathews is the first and ONLY person in the media that is speaking the truth. He is the only person that has made it clear Hillary cannot win. Everyone else is perpetuating the myth that she has a chance to keep morons tuning in for the “close” race. As close as it may appear Clinton is completely out of options and out of hope.

Comment by street_parade | 2008-04-23 14:39:49

Ummmm…I think she won last night in PA and in OH, TX, CA, RI, NV, NM, MA, MI, FL, AR, TN, OK, NY…oh you get the picture.

Oh cry the Obamatrons…she’s broke, she can’t go on!!! Until she raised $10 million while she was sleeping last night. She didn’t even have to go to a Pacific Heights fundraiser given by a Republican to raise that money.

Face it, if the Dems want to LOSE in November they’ll nominate BO, if they want to WIN they’ll nominate HRC. The choice is that simple. If Massachusetts (MASSACHUSETTS!!) is tied with this loser top of ticket (and the Repubs haven’t even started yet) how the hell do we win. Good God, you people have no SENSE!

Auto– This is the basic problem with Obamabotrons — you have absolutely no concept whatsoever of the Democratic Party, its history, nor do you have any connection, loyalty to it. BO’s campaign is comprised mainly of: Blacks, young, naive, kids, Elitist dilettantes, Independents, and Obamacans — this is NOT the real, true, Democratic Party. And, when this “party” is all said and done, and you have crashed it, invaded it, hijacked it, and are finished with wreaking havoc with it, you will invariably go on to a new thing — some new Wii game, perhaps?

This is NOT a game for the REAL Democrats, that is why you do not and will not EVER understand what we are talking about it. You are NOT a REAL Democrat, so simply put… you do NOT get “it.” Real Democrats do NOT take marching orders from Tweety Matthews or anyone else in the Big Media. So, I do NOT care what he says or thinks — but, you do. That is inherently your problem.

Please get off this site, go finish your homework, and crack open a history book, learn something before your presume to tell the Adults how “it” is.

Comment by Dave | 2008-04-24 15:00:09

Hmmm problem is for the last 8 years there has not been enough real Democrats to allow you to win the general election.

So your best hope is a candidate that can convince others as well as the real Democrats to support his/her goals.

So instead of complaining that he is gaining more support from non traditional Democrats. How about keeping the argument to the issues and ask is he standing for the ideas and principals of the democratic party. If the answer is yes or close enough or even as close as say HRC. Then surly the candidate that can convince both democrats and independents and even some republicans who are fed up with the current party. Is the very candidate you need to build the success of the democratic party.

I believe Obama has been trying really, really hard for several months to “knock her out”. The woman is a brick house. She cannot be blown down. She just bounces right back.

Obama should just give it up. He cannot defeat this woman, no matter how nasty he gets. She does not get all sniffy and run to the corner and sulk like he does. She smiles and says something nice.

Face it, Obama may say he “brushes his shoulder off”. He doesn’t. Hillary has shown much more ability to take a hit than he ever will.

The site owners here may find it inappropriate for you to post that commercial link of yours over and over again. Your Web host may also consider it spamming, as well as your upstream if you are involved in a MLM/pyramid business.

You never did address the crux of my remarks. Try again:

My logic? I challenge you to a legitimate debate. Loser can never post here again. You are talking out of your ass, spewing lies and soundbites that are out of context and don’t have the balls or brains to beat me in a debate on the issue.

If you wish a legitimate debate you may want to tone down your rhetoric. Telling people “You are talking out of your ass” illegitimizes any points you are trying to make which is the opposite of your intended goal.

And bravado like “don’t have the balls or brains to beat me in a debate” makes you look like a novice.

Some may also consider it rude for someone to come in here in full attack mode when people are having a well deserved day of celebration.

Yes, good for her. She will still lag behind Obama and 10 million is just enough to pay off the debt she has on the books. But I’m sure her fiscally irresponsible self will continue to throw good money at bad campaigning.

Get this through your skulls, SHE CAN’T WIN. Every dollar sent to her is a waste.

SHE kicked his sorry behind all over PA. She took some counties in the I-79 corridor by 65-35 margins. He can not win the Dem base- you remember us??? Working class, gun toting, religion clinging folks who came out in record numbers yesterday????

Your candidate was a fool to run with his terrorist friends and his thin resume- HE CAN NOT WIN! EVER!
Even the stupidest of Dean’s minions reads exit polls- we are not EVER voting for that poor excuse for a politician- Obama.

Really stupid to bet 4 to 1 with ad dollars and lose.
We don’t buy snake oil here.

Comment by Proxima | 2008-04-24 10:10:10

You don’t buy snake oil, you sell it.

Speaking as one of the Deomocratic base (38, white, family man, and proud gun owner who voted for Bill) I am voting for Obama, and I’m not alone.

I don’t need another president who’s going to lie to me about WMD’s in Iran or sniper fire in Bosnia or flip flop all over about her dealings with NAFTA.

She may have had a 9.3 lead in points, but that’s a far cry from “kicked his sorry behind all over PA” as you say. And even with that lead, Obama still came out with more delegates than she did from PA.

The delegate count is what matters, not the point spread.

I commend you for standing behind your candidate of choice, but the race is nearly over, and Obama is way out in front in the delegate count.

Those who show themselves responsible or brave enough to support Clinton get my money, period.

And I was thinking of Feingold, whom I truly admired once.

If he’s not smart enough to vet Obama, or think it’s OK to enable a guy with ties to terrorism, foist a piece of shit like that on the American public, esp after Bush and Cheney, he’s not qualified, or worthy, of the office of President.

You are really suffering over last night aren’t you? Good.

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 14:10:57

Which part do you refute? I expected last night, it solidified Obama’s lead.

Comment by mimi | 2008-04-23 14:59:30

This part:

That the Primary is not over until the last vote is counted.

That the numbers from last night’s PA Primary are only part of the picture and the whole picture states pretty clearly that according to ALL of the demographics that Hillary has won in ALL of the primaries thus far say that Barack Obama is unelectable in the GE.
Another fact you Obamorons like to gloss over is that he won’t have enough delegates etiher after the Primary is over to clinch the nom and that the SDs will have to decide. This is why the SDs were put in place to begin with. To look at the WHOLE PICTURE and make a decision as to which candidate will win in Nov.

You are going to Denver with demographics that simply eat Obama alive. And each day that Obama struts his arrogant misogynistic, non-experienced, lightweight ass in front of the US voting public he loses bigger chunks of the Democratic voting base.

This is why he sends his legions of satanic messengers to blogs like no quarter to bully with absurd drive-by comments about Hillary. He wants her desperately to quit, so that he can go into hiding, then re-emerge and like a phoenix rising from the ashes, try to con the American voters that he will somehow be able to magically transform Washington even in the face of all that the country is facing. Like everyone in Congress is going to role over and play dead while he ‘changes’ things.

Hey pal, it would do some of Obama’s supporters good to pay attention to a not-so little document called the US Constitution. It has a lot of interesting tidbits about ‘checks & balances’ and the 3 branches of government that have worked since 1776.

Bottom line: Obama will NEVER be President!

But more important to me and this you CAN take to the bank: Obama will NEVER get my vote. He will have to

WIN WITHOUT ME!

John Kass of the Chicago Tribune as a little more information about Dohrn, and Ayers, and their goals for, as he puts it, “global revolution.”

I was wondering how this may translate into modern day cyberterrorism, in connection with guys like Auchi, and Hamas, say, or the PLO?

We had all those hacks last week, remember, all those pro obama people?

I don’t mean to imply anything, I’m just curious.

And I donated twice to Hillary, and will do again, Friday, or Monday…

Proud of her country and it’s people?

“Hillary also attacked working-class white southerners who had forsaken the Democratic party, and in an oblique way she took on her husband as well. ‘Screw ‘em,’ she said, ‘you don’t owe them a thing, Bill, they’re doing nothing for you.’”

Ya, sounds like someone who loves all the people she’d govern and not just those that vote for her.

Comment by Regency | 2008-04-23 13:21:24

I know you’re not familiar with reality, but the rest of us live there. Get acclimated.

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-23 13:26:28

No! No! Only the votes that Dean and Brazile say count, count!

“It’s not the people who vote that count. It’s the people who count the votes.” – Josef Stalin

Comment by Brian P | 2008-04-23 14:53:33

You do realize that she signed a pledge not to participate in Michigan? Obama took his name off the ballot because he signed the same pledge. She once again lied and kept her name on the ballot, thus giving her those “votes”. If you remove them, she does not have the vote count. How’s that for reality?

Comment by beebop | 2008-04-23 13:24:06

Only if you believe that the voters in Michigan and Florida have suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth.

If you believe that disenfranchising two key states is the smartest path to the White House, then you obviously have no need for Koolaide. You already got to the campaign brain dead.

If you believe that disenfranchising two key states “that intentionally broke party rules and were held responsible for breaking the rules”

Comment by street_parade | 2008-04-23 14:56:55

Yes, I’m sure that will work in November when Precious it trying to win their votes against McCain.

BO: “you must understand, we couldn’t take into account your votes during the primary because of the RULEZ…”(sub-text, because it means I don’t “win”).

The ex-POW: “there is no more important right than the right to vote and have your votes counted….”(sub-text, the war hero HUMBLY asks for and seeks to earn each and every vote).

Gee, I wonder who wins.

The problem with that is that he thumbed his nose at a practise in the very area that have been the most loyal: the AA community. He did it to the very people who he claims to be aligned with ethnically. People who actually NEED this money.

But you wouldn’t know about that whiteyfresh.

Sadly, they still gave him their support. It says something about the mass psychosis afflicting the AA community with regard to Obama’s candidacy. They have in effect made themselves irrelvant during this campaign. And perhaps in years to come especially when Obama loses.

Good job Obama!

So, anyway, if you know a little about business, she’s OK.

I wanna know how Obama bought his house, with THAT credit record, and no real earnings.

Really.

And then I want to know the truth about his campaign finances, cause a lot of people think it’s a load of shit, all that “grassroots” support.

Where is the money coming from?

OMG, that is freakin’ amazing! You’re right, orionATL, the dam has finally burst, and it couldn’t have come at a more critical time. I for one am sick to death at hearing about what an amazing fundraiser Sen. Gutter Ball is.

Elite men are his base. Of course they have extra money to give him. A lot of Hillary’s donor’s make 72 cents for every dollar they make. A lot of them make under $50,000 a year, or are on Social Security. But they give anyway. I read posts last night on the blog on Hillary’s site of all kinds of poor people giving their money to her because they believe in her and need such luxuries as Health Insurance and gas prices they can afford.

Elite men are his base? Try again. He has support from all walks of life and lots of it. The majority of his donations are from regular people like me while Hillary gets most of her money from the ELITE that want to remain in control.

You read it on her blog so it’s where all her money came from? When I link you to 22 things that refute that will you run and hide or admit you were speaking out of ignorance?

Go check out the adds the repugs are running in NC. And they’re just the start. Think only repugs are gonna see those adds? And there’s PLENTY more where they came from. And the most DAMNING part is they have the tape of YOUR guy and his supporters, mentors and advisors saying and doing it! Stick a fork in him, he may be able to steal the nomination, but he has just slightly LESS then a snowballs chance to make it through hell going as the flaming crow flies.

He may be able to STEAL the nomination? You mean the guy with more votes, more delegates, more money and more support can steal from the person LOSING? The same person that started with 200 some delegates before anyone else had one? Clinton is trying to break the rules at every corner, win with lies (such as yours) and get elected delegates to switch. That my friend is what stealing is.

obamabots seem to think that general election voters are like primary voters. they forget that half the country doesn’t think like them. add that to the half of dems that don’t think like them, and what do you get? mcgovern. but at least mcgovern was a nice guy, unlike your guy.

He is an action hero!

Mayor Nutter is AWESOME, and as Gov. Rendell said last night, he is one helluva brave man that deserves the JFK Profiles in Courage Award. He would make an exceptional V.P. Philadelphia had become such a violent city with black market guns everywhere. And, Mayor Nutter interviwed Hill and BO. He chose Hillary because she has a PLAN for inner-cities like Philly. As a matter of fact, she has a plethora of plans, idea, more plans and more ideas for the ISSUES, ISSUES that face our country. No a bunch of jibber-jabber rhetoric — ACTION.

Hillary should be an Action Hero!!!

Hillary Clinton’s ruthless insistence on winning big-state primaries with traditional Democratic voters only hastens and strengthens the case that she drop out of the race and let Barack Obama finish his waffle.

Vanity Fair?

So far, has been fairly balanced, somewhat anti-Clinton, but no where NEAR as bad as Newsweek, Rolling Stone, the NYT’s, et al.

Are they all owned by the same people?

Graydon Carter was editor of SPY, at it’s best, right?

They slammed everyone.

I hope it stays neutral, or at least recognizes the truth, I’d HATE to have to give up reading it, as I have the others.

I don’t want your money. But if Obama keeps speechifying and thrusting his chin upwards as he panders to billionaires by dissing ordinary people who comprise the electorate, he will simply kill himself slowly.

The more of Obama we see in debates
with his evasive answers, his condescension, and repetition of generalities, the more we can expect that he will cancel them as he just did re: CBS, and NCarolina.

Obama feels entitled not to be challenged, but expects to be president. Really?

Since the party has decided to “fix it” for him, they will surely see BO against McCain and watch a Dukakis
moment enfold.

To have the gaul to expect that his opponents would treat him like royalty is absurd

. This is hardly the nastiest campaign I have seen in my lifetime. Just think Bradley vs Gore, Bush vs McCain, Bush vs Max Cleleand, Nader vs Gore, Bush vs Kerry, Ford vs Reagan [a humdinger of nasty], and if you really want to go back to Philadelphia think of our Founders as John Adams was given one of the most vitriolic campaigns in history. Ditto Jefferson. The list goes on.

The Democratic Party has once again shot itself. Selecting a lightweight with a glass jaw, with no experience who was poorly vetted [in spite of his political skills at oratory], in moments as historically crucial domestically and dangerous internationally as we now find ourselves is monumentally incompetent political strategy. BO’s being AA is actually besides the point.

His natural disdain and sense of superiority will tag him elitist no matter what. He cannot connect with mainstream voters to close the deal.

How this Junior senator with virtually no experience who has done nothing can be the party favorite simply appears to have been chosen as the anti Clinton. Hw gives good speech.

Not even addressed are Rezko,Wright, Ayers,Farrakhan, and a cast yet to be fully addressed. Believe me, Hillary is nothing in this department. Wait for the 527’s.

The New York Times made a fool out of their editors today. They incorrectly called Hillary’s win as minor when it was over 10 points. Blaming her for negativity is a joke.

I have watched Obama patronize Hillary, insult her, call her names, and without provocation lie and mislabel her health plan as one that would “garnishee wages”. This isn’t smear and fear tactics? Hillary has clearly outlined that those who could not afford her plan would be subsidized.

Obama’s leaves millions of Americans out of his health plan, and to hell with them if they cannot afford to pay.

If Obama decides to don the mythic mantle of the “high road”, dream on. The voters will decide.

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 13:07:54

Why do you idiots resort to lies, half truths and attacks in an attempt to prove your misguided points?

“On MSNBC, Clinton’s national chair Terry McCaluliffe just announced that we’ve raised $10 million in cash since last night’s history-making election in Pennsylvania. There were 50,000+ donors. More cash is pouring in.”

Congrats, now Clinton can pay back her debt.

“She’ll need every penny we can spare because Obama, unbelievably (?), has endless cash flow.”

That’s because he has more support and a better operation.

“(Of course, he outspent her three-to-one in Pennsylvania, and still couldn’t win, or even come close.)”

He couldn’t huh? He closed a 30 point gap to 8.6. Ironically Clinton’s “BIG” win left her in worse shape than she started. She would now have to win a higher percentage of the remaining delegates than she needed before PA.

“ALSO BREAKING: Hillary has snagged an important Tennessee superdelegate. “Rep. John Tanner, a prominent Blue Dog Democrat, backs [Hillary].””

Good for her, unfortunately too little too late but you crazies never seem to notice little things like that.

“UPDATE: Vet4Hill has created a terrific new video on Hillary’s lead in the popular vote … it’s just below the fold:”

Her lead in the popular vote? You mean when they count Michigan where she was the only one on the ballot and Florida where she campaigned while the others didn’t? That’s so stupid it’s hilarious.

Now I’m sure you’ll censor anyone that doesn’t kiss your ass but I’ll be responding to your commentors here as well. All of you are drinking the spiked kool-aid and it’s rather pathetic. If this is a representation of Hillary supporters no wonder she’s doing so horribly.

Empire,

I never watch Fox and your assertion that anyone who disagrees with you is right wing is absurd.

It’s also incorrect. I don’t need to spin. Just go to todays Chicago Herald tribune and read all about Ayers and company and who Obama hung with. This is about one of the “radical chic” groups he courted along with Wright,Farrakhan, et all and threw Rezko into the mix in Daleyland to get the bucks to run
until he got to US Senate.

You might open your mind and read Tim Novak’s investigative reporting on Obama and Rezko in 2005, ‘06,’07 which are factually accurate in Chicago Sun Times. ww.suntimes.com

There is no need to spin. These are facts. When Obama leaves his Media swaddled bassinette, or is wrung from its protection, you might have the courage to take a look at some really unpleasant stuff not fitting a future president.

What exactly are you implying with this comment? I cannot give you direct citations to this information, so I would merely recommend you look at official Senate records. I can tell you that it may surprise you about how active our SLEEPING candidate has been.

Moreover, regardless of whether we are talking about Clinton vs. Obama or Clinton vs. Kucinich/Dodd/etc, I would never cast a vote for a politician who has a track record of deception, lying and backstabbing as she does. When are you going to take a step back and look ponder this? We have evidence this goes as far back as law school!

Finally, in the last election Democrats finally united to stand up against our Executive Branch policies including, but not limited to the status of Iraq. Now we are going to elect someone who has already threatened military action against Iran? So much for international diplomacy. I pride myself on my objectiveness when it comes to politics, so I this will be the last thing I say. IF Hillary takes this election (although the mathematical possibilities are nearly extinct), remind yourself in 2 years what I say here.

McCain or Hillary wins, our country will only continue along the current downward spiral. Its as simple as that.

Will grant him the nomination if you and your Obamabots take responsibility for the ensuing disaster that would take place with his candidacy. ALL CURRENT POLLING SHOWS OBAMA A MUCH WEAKER CANDIDATE THAN CLINTON THE POTENTIAL FOR A DOWN TICKET DISASTER IS LOOMING IF HE GETS THE NOMINATION. OR ARE YOU GOING TO BLAME THAT ON CLINTON TOO. GET A LIFE KNOW YOUR FACTS AND GO SOME PLACE ELSE.
AND IF HE IS THE SO CALLED PRESUMPTIVE CANDIDATE WHY IS HE LOSING RACES. THIS IS THE TIME HE SHOULD BE BUILDING A COALITION RATHER THAN TRYING TO TEAR DOWN THE TRADITIONAL DEMOCRATIC COALITION.

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 14:14:34

This is simply not true. Obama does not poll worse than Clinton against McCain in “all the polls”. As for tearing down the coalition, that would be Hillary. You know the one that can’t win, praises McCain, attacks Obama and sticks around just for a chance to run in 2012.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-23 14:22:36

There are only so many resources a candidate can use and him he is using them in states where he should have an easy win then his candidacy his doomed. As far as a coalition why don’t you look up how Obama did with groups other than AAs. Don’t come here with gross generalities and expect them to fly.

Comment by Eanoper | 2008-04-24 20:50:39

I have qualms with both Democratic candidates, but regardless of who wins the primary, I know for a fact that either one will do more good for this country than John McCain. You guys need to face it, you’re (and I mean both the Obama fanatics as well as the Clinton fanatics) letting yourselves lose sight of what’s important in this election, and (hint) it is not about campaign finances or smear tactics or minor electability issues. It is about restoring the country to a saner path after eight years of neoconservative social experimentation. McCain, especially when it comes to foreign policy, is nothing but a continuation of what we have been enduring recently.

From a policy standpoint, both Clinton and Obama seem to be driving in a similar direction. They may disagree on the specific path, but there seem to be more similarities than differences. I only wish both groups could get over there excessive fawning over their respective candidate long enough to see this. I, for one, will be voting for whomever wins the primary, and I wish all of you would too.

Facts are 100% my friend. I despise the rhetoric, half truths and outright lies. You’ve never seen me before because I followed a link somewhere and felt the need to respond to the complete nonsense that was posted in the first post and the comments that followed.

Everyone knows Obama lost PA. Nobody expected him to win. But what everyone here fails to realize is that he is further ahead today than he was yesterday. Hillary would have to win a much larger percentage of the remaining delegates than the percentage that was required a short 24 hours ago.

As I said, Obama solidified his lead. Cheering about winning one state, 10 million dollars or inaccurate stats that say Clinton has a popular vote lead will not change that.

And you say I am trying to obfuscate. This entire thread was Clinton propaganda and it will be rehashed by morons once Obama is the nominee. The incorrect talking points on display here will become “facts” in the minds of pissed off supporters.

Me obfuscate. Unbelievable.

Hey Crash’n'Burn, I sure hope you have a parachute.

She won by 10 points, not 8.

Obama is the one who had ads run and held a fund-raising ‘dinner’ in Florida, and still got his arse handed to him.

Obama has the “better” operation that pulled out of Michigan, because THEY wanted to bend over to the party elite in Iowa, but then spent a lot of money getting people to vote for uncommitted.

Obama is the one who’s flipping off, clearing off his shoulder at and basically saying I’m in the lead so GFY to the people of FL/MI, because he knows both cheeks would be blistered from the spanking he’d get if he let them revote.

Obama is the one lying about his financial support; no lobbyists’ money….but gee lobbyists who bundle. Go figure. Change, indeed. Lots of change….in$100,000 bundles from energy and pharm. corporations. Forget the W Rangers, maybe we could have the Obama Espressos.

That is done to make it go over the psychological boundary that is double digits and make the ignorant people that can’t do math think Hillary has any sort of a chance.

Judging by the way Obama is going over with Americans, and given his expenditure of nearly 9 million to Hillary’s 3.2 million in PA, at this point, I don’t think his middle easter largesse matters worth a shit anymore.

Empire, You sure are on autopilot. Talk about kool aid. Hmm.

Your whiny post is that of a sore loser. And Hillary was thought at most to be 20 points ahead in Pa. Obama spent 11 million, bussed all over the State for 5 weeks, ran commercials 24/7. And the new voters voted for Hillary.

Obama’s commercials attacking Hillary’s healthcare were a huge lie that the ele torate saw through. His story that HillaryPlan would “garnishee wages” was scare and fear. We all know that those who could not afford the premiums or full premiums would receive help.

His Harry and Louise TV spots were right out of the GOP playbook.

Obama has been the Media’s darling. He has all kinds of money and yes, a fine organization, better than Hillary’s, etc.

So why can’t he close? Why can’t he connect with the majority? His wins are mainly in smaller red states that the GOP win.

Change? Change WHAT? This lightweight will change DC? What will he do to get legislation passed? Call MoveOn?

I have no animus for Obama. I just think he is over rated with a great deal of
baggage, and appears very spoiled to me.

Talking about old ladies will not endear him to the populace, and demanding non confrontational issues doesn’t work anymore than ducking debates does.

Drink on. Skoal.

George McGovern agrees with you.

Axelrod is a shithead, just proved it right there.

And you see how specious and knee jerk that analysis was, how WRONG, a function of his weak narcissism, blaming others for his screw ups?

He represents the people in Washington making decisions, they listen to guys like him.

Comment by PMS | 2008-04-23 13:45:09

Axelrod pretty much reinforces the whole “bitter-gate” lede, no?

However, he’s mistaken about one thing. Working-class whites (ummm, I guess that’s folks kinda like me) have voted for Democrats for president. In my lifetime, they did it in 1960, 1964, 1976, 1992, and 1996 (notice the last two… especially 1996).

Notice a trend, David?

When working-class whites vote for a Democrat, we win. When we look down our Liberal-Arts noses at them, we lose.

First off your not going to get their vote unless you ask them for it and by that understand what the concerns of the working class are. Not some pie in the sky rhetoric about change and yes we can that won’t get it done. Health care reform, mortgage reform, economic reform thats what will get it done. Second maybe the democrats poor showing the last 10 years is because we haven’t talked to working class voters, have the democrats talk to working class voters since LBJ. Melissa,

I ask this with all sincerity.

What makes you so ignorant of the facts? Also, being ignorant of the facts what makes you so unwilling to learn when provided a chance? It appears you are happy to keep on going blissfully ignorant of the world around you.

I clicked your link. “Pa turned the tide!”

Wow, that’s like the 7th state to “turn the tide” according to Clinton.

You also ended the post with “Yes, we bitter, gun toting, church going folks” and are one of several people here rehashing the same tired line, out of context.

Do you not understand what Obama was saying with this “controversial” comment or do you just not care?

As for me being bad at math, please listen close. Everything I say can be verified by you or anyone else with a 4th grade education.

The percentage of delegates Hillary would have to win in the remaining contests is now LARGER than it was before PA voted. She is in WORSE shape today than yesterday.

Now I see you are an active democrat and I want to like you. However, you make it extremely hard when you would rather spout lies and re-arrange quotes to fit your agenda.

Why do you hate America?

Comment by Melissa | 2008-04-23 14:50:03

Let’s go with facts ok.
FACT ONE! I am a proud American mother of a military member and sister of a vet.
TWO- I am extremely patriotic. I love my country, unlike your candidate’s pastor who espouses G*** D*** America.
Three- your candidate has associations with an admitted terrorist (Fact-Ayers kicked off his Illinois campaign)
Four- Your candidate can not win the base of the party- working class folks.
Five- Neither candidate has enough or can win enough pledged delegates. Supers will decide this. ELECTABILITY is key.

With Obama’s known relationships to Ayers, Resko, Wright, Odinga and more, he is not acceptable to a vast number of people. That is a fact. That makes him unelectable.

I love America and I will NEVER vote for Obama.

Comment by Todd F | 2008-04-23 16:22:32

Honestly, how is Clinton any better?

FACT ONE - Rev Wright was a Marine.

TWO - Would you not be a little upset over a country who had enslaved your people, tortured your people, made your people a second class citizen not more than a single generations ago? The quote is actually “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human.”. That kinda makes a difference.

THREE - she’s quoted as saying to hell with the peolpe who don’t support her and her husband. “”Screw ‘em,” she told her husband. “You don’t owe them a thing, Bill. They’re doing nothing for you; you don’t have to do anything for them.” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/16/hillary-clinton-on-workin_n_97017.html)

FOUR - she has a history of lies and unethical behavior to do anything to get ahead politically (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/clintons_exaggerated_experienc.html)

FIVE - she has her fair share of ’scandals’ over the years. Best known obviously is whitewater.

Comment by mimi | 2008-04-23 17:07:08

“Would you not be a little upset over a country who had enslaved your people, tortured your people, made your people a second class citizen not more than a single generations ago?”

The problem with that is this: Obama doesn’t have any direct ancestors who were slaves on this continent. Why’s he so angry? Why’s he aligning and empathizing so closely with an AA who does?

‘Typical” white people want to know these things.

I, an AA, really could care less about Wright and what he said. I hear stuff like this all of the time. And yes, slavery is a bitter pill that we AAs choke on every day. Why suddenly is it so important to you? There are so many ways you could advocate for the AA community that don’t include supporting Barack Obama. What have you done in the past? There’s so much to do and frankly, government support isn’t the only answer. We need foot soldiers/volunteers on the ground helping the grass roots and generationally poor and uneducated. Besides, spinning Obama’s talking points, what is your commitment to the AA community, btw?

For the record, I don’t support Obama because he is not qualified, nor experienced to be president, his commitment to the black community remains a mystery, and I certainly find his ties to a slumlord like Rezko questionable. In Obama’s own district, Rezko left poor blacks without heat, hot water in Chicago winters no less. Obama is not a man who has my best interests at heart. Frankly, he’s not someone who has anyone’s interests at heart.

This pretty much sums up what the comments here are about.

Comment by Eanoper | 2008-04-24 21:42:38

“This pretty much sums up what the comments here are about.”

It’s hard to tell that, however, when so many of the comments here are so incredibly poorly written and riddled with as much polarizing rhetoric as they are. Thanks for writing in a much more reasonable and effective manner than many of the commenters who post here. It makes your viewpoints much more palatable and understandable to those of us who do not come here agreeing with the pre-established community.

Anyone who talks about an “astounding victory” in PA apparently doesn’t remember HRC being up by double digits, finishing 9% up. PA was supposed to be a shoe in for Clinton.

Facts are facts adn Obama spent well over $11 million to lose, talk about sound fiscal policies! But when your finance commitee Chair has a failure rate in the Billions, what is a few million in a losing cause right?

Comment by John | 2008-04-23 14:35:37

“Facts are facts adn[sic] Obama spent well over $11 million to lose, talk about sound fiscal policies! But when your finance commitee[sic] Chair has a failure rate in the Billions, what is a few million in a losing cause right?”

Obama spent over $11 million. Great. With Hillary’s $10M raised overnight, she is at the $0 mark. Her campaign, as reported widely, started April around $10M in debt. Sound fiscal policies argument pro-Hillary ended.

A few million in a losing cause? As was stated previously, Obama was reported to have a 20 point deficit after “bitter-gate”. Hillary took it, for our purposes, by 10. That is huge ground to make up, and well worth the money, especially since Obama has it.

Up to this point (meaning prior to last night), it has been reported that Hillary has spent $1.10 for each dollar she has raised, while Obama spent $0.70. It isn’t rocket science to see who runs a more responsible campaign.

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 14:46:33

You say Obama won red states as if it is bad he is pulling record support from typical Republican strongholds.

You also act as if Obama won’t win the blue states when he is the nominee.

Sad.

Comment by Bozo | 2008-04-23 14:48:40

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 15:05:35

Did I say anything about your celebration? I get it, you like Hillary. You know what, I do too, just not as much as I like Obama.

That however, is irrelevant. My first post here was refuting outright lies which were littered throughout this entire thread and the original post.

The people spreading these lies should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I talk like I’m pissed off because I am absolutely pissed off. How can there be 15, 20 people right here on this page that are acting like the scum that is the GOP.

Oh Hillary is behind so Obama supports terrorists.

Oh someone called us out on our misinformation, let’s call them a troll and disregard anything they say.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Hillary won PA but she has next to no chance to be the nominee. Even if she were to subvert the will of the voters the backlash would be devastating for her and the entire party.

But because the entire group of “original” members here support Hillary they turn a blind eye to all of the lies that are being spread. Never mind the damage to the party. Never mind that winning dirty is not winning at all. How can not one of you have enough morals to say “Wait a minute, yes we won but we don’t have to lie to support our candidate.”

Do you not understand how heartbreaking it is to a life long Democrat to see this? After 8 years of Bush we now get to deal with the vile hatred from within our own party?

It’s unbelievable. It’s wrong. It’s sick.

Be careful what you wish for Obama is hardly the progressive candidate he claims to be. He has a group of neocon economic advisors advising him and the godfather of neocon foreign policy advising him. They are the facts they cannot be denied if you did some research on his advisors you would be surprised.
Now if your supporting Obama for his conservatism I can’t argue with you.

Interesting, I guess we each have our own interpretation of reality.

But given how you troll, and your obtuse, aggressive limited vocabulary, and your obvious lack of critical thinking, I’ll take mine.

You’re very weak.

This is the same method by which the republicans trolled, when Bush and Cheney were trying to destroy the Constitution.

“You say we drink the kool-aide” but you haven’t addressed Obama’s corruption, his ties with terrorists, except to dismiss them, when they havent’ been fully vetted.

And then, I guess we draw different conclusions about the effect of men like Auchi on the British government, it’s ability to function while corrupt, and Auchi’s effect on Isarel while arms dealing to Hamas, say.

And the greater asymmetric war, well, that’s out of your league, you aren’t smart enough to understand the parallels, or the players.

Period.

You think it’s OK, I see the American systems breaking apart, to the detriment of everyone.

Cheney and Bush missed it too.

They missed it, because of guys who think like you, ie very speciously, very infantile and narcissistic.

And for any number of reasons, since you support Obama, I would say your thinking is indicative of guys like Khalidi, too.

So, you are doing a public service, thanks.

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 15:08:40

What kind of broken argument is this? Do you even realize that Obama is supported by intelligent, well educated people and Hillary draws most of her support from uneducated middle America?

You say Obama supporters are too dumb to see, Obama supporters are smarter as a whole period. It’s a fact, not refutable, just fact.

It’s impossible to argue with someone like you, you just twist reality to fit you agenda and that’s that.

Whatever

Get ahold of yourself darklameth!! lol Good gawd! He LOST! Period!! He’s the one who spent all of that damn cash and still lost. Ross Perot? Anybody? lol Except for Perot had his own cash. Gosh you guys can’t take losing. When Hillary lost in past races, her supporters talk strategy. You idiots talk about how Obama didn’t lose “so badly”. He got his ass kicked last night! Point Blank!

Comment by darklameth | 2008-04-23 14:04:44

Actually, I’m very calm right now.

Yes, I support Obama, but not to some fanatical level.

You speak of his loss. Yes, he did lose. He lost the popular vote by roughly 9%. That’s in one state. The reason he won the delegate count is for the same reason that Hillary tries to say “some states don’t count.” He did better in the regions with more national elected officials, hence more delegates.

He’s still 150 pledged delegates ahead in the counts. Hillary effectively picked up -1 delegates in this race (0 if you count the superdelegate she picked up).

I would congratulate her on her windfall of money, definitely. That brings her out of the red. I enjoy having discussions, but only if the discussions are more than ad hominem attacks, are based on facts, and are not items taken out of context. There’s the concept of winning the battle, but not doing well enough to win the war. Most strategist said she needed to get a decisive and overwhelming victory in PA for it to count. She didn’t. People who say she did are almost akin to those who said W. got a “public mandate” by winning 51% of the popular vote during the presidential election.

Please, if you want to pat yourselves on the back, go ahead. If you want to slam me, go ahead. Just remember, the 9% win she got here in PA was a month ago projected at a 20%+, meaning throughout all of the debates she lost ground. Even with all of the out of context quotes tossed around, Obama still managed to greatly reduce the margin.

Comment by Sugar | 2008-04-23 14:19:00

Here’s the thing though “darklameth” you are rolling up in here–through Larry and Susan’s spot–throwing your wet blanket all over everybody and nobody wants it on them! Why don’t you head on over to IHeartObama.org and try to figure out how you guys can pick up the pieces of that sham of a campaign he’s running. We’re doing just fine without your “expert opinion”.

Comment by Mel | 2008-04-23 14:23:25

You are right, a month ago is was almost 20% for Clinton, and Obama spent over $11 million to gain 10 points, so he spent over $1.1 million per point, kind of makes you wonder where his fiscal responsabilities are, let alone his “Good Judgement on Day 1″ are doesn’t it?

Makes logical sense to anyone that in a time of economic downswing, spending record amounts in a losing cause is sure someone showing an ability to manage an economy doesn’t it?

You know, just saying from a reasonable standpoint of logic!

Comment by Empire Autopilot | 2008-04-23 14:48:22

Comment by Uppity | 2008-04-23 17:30:27

That is not just one state. That is 8 out of nine swing states that Democrats need to win ANY presidential election. The problem comes with the misconception that everybody will just fall in line and walk like a duck if he becomes the nominee. It won’t happen. Too many women despise him, not only for the sexist pig he is, but even moreso because of the filth typed on message boards to them. The blue collar “reagan” people will NEVER vote for him. They will go McCain. The gays despise him for the homophobic he is. The Italians are major pissed. I can attest to this. I am Italian and I live in a city with a large Italian population. I don’t know one Italian who will ever vote for him thanks to Wright’s Garlic Nose crack. Then there are the Catholics, these are key voters for ANYONE. They don’t tend to vote for people who attend whackjob churches. There are ONLY 70 million of them. Toss in the Jews and their jitters about his obvious relations with Pakistan, not to mention the Hamas endorsement. And then add the Typical White woman remark about his grandmother, which clearly would piss off seniors who already didn’t like him. That leaves kids, radicals and African Americans. This guy is doomed to outdo McGovern and I don’t mean that lightly.

Seriously you people make me sick. Reading this crap in the comments has made me afraid of the democrats chances no matter who gets nominated. I mean getting close to half of the supporters on both sides are polled as saying they will VOTE FOR MCCAIN OR STAY HOME if their candidate does not get nominated. The only winner here is McCain.

You people have taken the two best candidates possible for this election, where we had a solid ticket no matter who was president or vice president, and turned it into this hate fest. This is an election coming on the heels of one of the most unpopular presidents and when the Republican party seems divided. I don’t even mind this going to the end as long as we stop dragging both candidates through the mud and hurting our chances.

But you people don’t seem to realize this, if fact I wonder how long it takes for someone to accuse me of being a shill for Obama or Clinton. It’s your election to lose people! At the start we were almost guaranteed a victory, where will we be when we actually get to vote?

“you people”, that’s always a crowd-pleaser and guaranteed to make people listen to what you’re saying.

Dude… mosey on over to DKos, DU, etc. and just see who is hurling the filthy insults at which candidate, and who has banned supporters of that candidate from participating in progressive blogging sites, and see who has been telling which supporters that our votes are “not needed” anymore anyway — so we might as well piss off.

There is no way you do not know about the death threats, the tire slashing, the general threats, and such against people who do not support Obama. There is no way you could find No Quarter without having visited the pro-Obama blogs, or seen the vile comments posted about Hillary all over the internet, by his supporters.

YOu’re being deliberately obstuse.

Comment by James W | 2008-04-23 16:36:46

I’ve got a feeling he included the DKos people in “you people”. I would at least. Both sides are behaving childish and it could cost the election come November for whomever the Dem candidate is.

Hard to imagine that the Rep’s actually have a fair shot to win the whole thing after everything we’ve been through over the last 8 years.

Comment by simon, too | 2008-04-23 15:04:31

You really fail to see the bigger picture.

Every tim you try to troll using Clinton supporter arguments against them, you impress me as being more stupid than I thought.

BTW, given equal parameters of thought process, this is how Cheney lost the Middle East, as it’s the republican method of troll, also, and if you really support Obama, he’ll lose, too.

But you’re too stupid to figure it out.

Comment by Matt | 2008-04-23 15:14:38

So it seems everyone here is in that 50% I was talking about. I am officially scared about our chances in the general election.

I also find it hard to believe there are so many people that refuse to acknowledge the merits of the other side. We are all democrats and I believe it is being reported that the candidates share about 95% of their platform. So why is there this kind of response?

I really can’t understand it. However, it’s a matter of maturity and I’m asking everyone here politely that no matter who wins to vote democrat. I don’t think this country could take another republican, financially or based on the damage to our global standing.

Comment by James W | 2008-04-23 16:41:58

I agree. I hear a lot of people whose main regard for their support of Hillary or Obama is their pledge to reduce troop levels in the middle east but say they will vote McCain if their favorite doesn’t get the Dem nomination. I just can’t understand that.

Comment by Amanda | 2008-04-23 15:40:18

Autopilot, I have a lot of respect for myself, but I don’t have to explain that to you. All I said before, if unity calls were made on both sides, we can have a discussion, but when they are only made to Hillary supporters (I know I will get her votes, but she won’t get mine) then there is no point in talking, is there?! So,instead of trolling here, you can go and make a unity call to this thing (not a human being I suppose) at Huff’s, and see what kind of response you get. On the other side, you can troll here, and I donate to Hillary’s everytime I entertain myself with you :).

PREDICTION:

Hillary’s yeast infection spreads to her face permanently scarring and swelling her head to match her personality. Superdelegates flee in horror from this monster in human flesh. Hillary drops out May 8.

Comment by Brian P | 2008-04-23 16:50:26

I wish both sides could actually just take a step back, take a deep breath, and relax for a minute. I agree with you that there needs to be a stop to all the name-calling and frivilous accusations. I respect Hillary supporters for their opinions and hopefully they respect me in mine. I’ve gotta tell ya, given I don’t have a lot of experience in the primary races, the direction this race has turned on both sides has just become discouraging.

received the following “Poll” from sodahead today.

http://www.sodahead.com/poll/77869/

There’s two things about it that concern me:

1) It came to my email inbox identified as coming from Barbara Boxer
2) It actually came from the Sodahead founder

Even though the poll came as a direct question, I think the way it was phrased is EXTREMELY BIASED. I’m also upset that Sodahead is using Barbara Boxer’s name to get responses to such a poll. I believe Sen. Boxer has remained neutral in this campaign thus far.

I am asking here that all Hillary supporters do two things: 1) Complain to Sodahead that they should not use Barbara Boxer’s name (or anyone elses) for their own phishing expeditions and 2) Contact Barbara Boxer’s office and complain about this poll, and make sure they know her name was used and the context in which the question was asked. If Boxer did indeed endorse this question, I would be personally outraged.

I’m divided on whether to actually respond to the poll and show our strength. There are so many such BS internet polls, it probably matters little…except for unfortuantely the Sodahead founder’s posts probably get more page hits.

As a general observation. Once removing the name calling and irrelevant comments, here is what I see.

*not much*

Opinion #1: Hillary is the best option.
Opinion #2: Obama is the best option.

Can people argue reasonably? This whole thread is abusive and rather elementary.

Here is my question, and I want everyone to seriously ponder this before firing back at me. If Hillary/Obama loses, are you really going to turn this country over to Neocons?

I think all of this, I am not voting for Hillary/Obama in the general election if so and so loses is a lot of talk with little meaning.

At a time when the party needs to come together for victory, here we are slapping each other in the face.

And as a last note, both sides should seriously check their facts before subjecting anyone else to them.

Comment by Brian P | 2008-04-23 16:55:20

Can’t recall the article but I was reading earlier today about that fact. It stated that people historically say they will not support their candidates party rival during the primary but when it comes time for the general, they realize what is important. I hope both sides take this to heart.

I’ll speak for NY.

NY had a 2-term Republican governor that just ended in 2006. There are a lot of upstate Republicans and Democrats willing to vote Republican. Hillary wooed these people and they love her now. They won’t take kindly to Obama.

He also won’t win all of NYC. Staten Island is a very STUBBORN Republican stronghold. You are also assuming that NYC’s heavily latino population is going to vote for Obama. Don’t bet the farm on that one. (And this applies to CA, btw. Say, wasn’t Reagan from CA? And don’t they have a Republican governor now?)

Then there’s the Jewish vote. And that’s getting more and more complicated by the day.

You are counting very heavily on the AA community and their numbers cannot bring it home for Obama. The same way those numbers in SC won’t make that red state blue. Even Clinton didn’t win SC.

You guys really need to take notes and do some research. I see Obama’s arrogance is contagious. He simply can’t see straight. There are so many variables in this election with regard to his candidacy it will make your head spin. I can see that yours is spinning now.

But no amount of spinning is going to change the reality.

Unless that is, some more nefarious Chicago politics is on the agenda and they’re planning to hit McCain and I mean that in the Soprano vernacular. Given Obama’s tactics in the past and who he’s connected to, I would not put anything past these haters of America.

The point is, NY is not going to be a walk in the park. And I think CA even less.

So what are you talking about here?

I keep forgetting… You all are just plain stupid.

Hillary Clinton is an opportunistic liar.

Oops, watch that sniper fire.

If she’s so great why didn’t she beat Obama way back on Super Tuesday? Because she’s a phony and people are beginning to wake up to the phony politics that elected Bill Clinton and George Bush.
