About: Larry C. Johnson is a former analyst at the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, who moved subsequently in 1989 to the U.S. Department of State, where he served four years as the deputy director for transportation security, antiterrorism assistance training, and special operations in the State Department's Office of Counterterrorism. He left government service in October 1993 and set up a consulting business. He currently is the co-owner and CEO of BERG Associates, LLC (Business Exposure Reduction Group) and is an expert in the fields of terrorism, aviation security, and crisis and risk management, and money laundering investigations. Johnson is the founder and main author of No Quarter, a weblog that addresses issues of terrorism and intelligence and politics. NoQuarterUSA was nominated as Best Political Blog of 2008.[1] He has worked as a private consultant on issues of international terrorism and security for the U.S. Government and private companies. Johnson has appeared as a consultant and commentator in many major newspapers and news programs.[2]

[edit]Background
Larry Johnson moved to Washington, D.C. in 1979 to begin work on a Ph.D. at the American University. Although he completed successfully all coursework and comprehensive exams, he did not write a dissertation. In 1978 and in 1983-85 he worked in Latin America on community development projects as a community organizer. Returning to the United States in 1985 he joined the Central Intelligence Agency, thanks in part to a letter of recommendation from Republican Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) that helped to "open doors" for him at the Agency.[3] Johnson entered on duty at the CIA in September 1985 and was a classmate of Valerie Plame. Every member of that class was undercover. After a year in the Career Trainee program, which included a stint with the Afghan Task Force, Johnson was assigned as an analyst in the Middle America Caribbean Division in the Latin American Affairs Office of the Directorate of Intelligence. He received two Exceptional Performance awards and was promoted ultimately to Senior Regional Analyst for Central America.
Johnson remained undercover in the CIA until October 1989, when he resigned from the CIA and started a new job in the Office of Counter Terrorism at the Department of State. Johnson played an instrumental role in launching the Terrorism Rewards program international advertising campaign (working with Diplomatic Security officers Brad Smith and Michael Parks). [4] Johnson also was involved in a variety of crisis management response operations, including the release of hostages from Lebanon and liaison with the Pan Am 103 families. He left government service in October 1993 and started his own business as a consultant.
After leaving government service, Johnson became a frequent guest on many major television news shows when a question of terrorism came up. He was first interviewed by CNN following the capture of Carlos the Jackal. Johnson subsequently appeared on CNN, ABC's Nightline, CBS, the BBC, MSNBC, the Jim Lehrer News Hour, NBC, and NPR. In December of 1999, for example, Johnson was hired by NBC to serve as its terrorist expert for the Y2000 and was in Time Square with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric ("a lot of fun and the best way to see in the New Year"). Johnson also was hired in January 2002 as a Fox News Analyst and remained under contract until February 2003.
Since 1994 a significant focus of Johnson's consulting work has been with the U.S. military special operations forces in scripting and conducting military counter terrorism exercises. He traveled under orders from the U.S. military to Iraq in May 2006 to work on a short term project.
A registered Republican who supported President Bush in 2000, Johnson became a strong critic of the Bush administration in May 2003 for its conduct of the war in Iraq and, a few months later, for its role in the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame.[5] He was also featured in the 2004 political documentary Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism. Since Robert Novak's controversial disclosure of Valerie Plame as a CIA operative in July 2003, Johnson has contributed to public discourse on intelligence matters, often sparking further controversy. He has been interviewed by both the mass media and the alternative media and published commentaries on a variety of issues, including the Plame affair, the controversy concerning Mary McCarthy, and the resignation of Porter Goss as Director of Central Intelligence.

[edit]1996
In 1996, Johnson noted that terrorism worldwide was on the decline. "Terrorist incidents [both internationally and in the US] have fallen to levels not seen since the 1970s. Whether measured by the number of incidents, the number of fatalities, or the number of groups, raw statistics demonstrate that the level of terrorist violence has declined since the mid-1980s. In fact, the evidence suggests terrorism was more widespread and deadly 10 years ago."[6]
He also wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times suggesting that the newer and more deadly terrorist threat to the U.S. was embodied by "networks of terrorists, mostly foreign, working within its borders." Exemplifying this threat was Ramzi Yousef, one of the masterminds behind the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. In the article, Johnson suggests that enhanced cooperation between intelligence agencies, particularly the FBI and CIA, is mandatory to meet the growing threat of terror networks.[7]
[edit]1998
In 1998, Johnson argued that while overall terrorism was declining, the threat from bin Laden and al-Qaeda should be the focus of American counterterrorism policy:
The nature of the threat posed by Bin Ladin is highlighted by my final chart, number 7. Osama Bin Ladin and individuals associated with him have killed and wounded more Americans than any other group. This chart also illustrates that groups such as Hamas and the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) prior to 1998 have killed more foreigners in the anti-US terrorist attacks. If we take into account the bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, Osama's status as the most lethal terrorist is certain.[8]
In addition, he told USA Today that bin Laden had participated in "virtually every major attack of terrorism against the United States" in the 1990s. Johnson underlined the threat posed by bin Laden, saying that he was possessed by "hatred and craziness." If left unanswered, "he would continue to terrorize Americans around the world. He has no compunction about killing women and children. He's a complete egalitarian in his murderous attitude."[9]
[edit]1999
In an interview with PBS's Frontline for its 1999 program, Hunting bin Laden, Johnson discussed Osama bin Laden.[10] According to Johnson, Americans had "tended to make Osama bin Laden sort of a superman in Muslim garb." "Actually," he continues, "Osama bin Laden, in my view, represents more of a symptom of a problem, and the problem is this: the Saudi Arabian government, not just Osama bin Laden but many people in Saudi Arabia, have been sending money to radical Islamic groups for years." Johnson continued:
When you look at who's killed Americans in the last 10 years, the individuals he's supported and backed--I'm basing that upon the initial information that's been released in the indictments and conversations with others in the intelligence communities--Osama bin Laden has been the one killing Americans. No other terrorist group in the world has been out killing Americans except for Osama bin Laden.... Osama bin Laden remains out there as the one really targeting us. So, we recognize that he's the threat. He's serious about wanting to kill Americans, but as long as he's in Afghanistan, as long as he doesn't have access to a cell phone, as long as he can't just hop on a plane and travel wherever he wants without fear of being arrested, his ability to plan and conduct terrorist operations is extremely limited. We have to recognize [that] he would like to do a lot of damage. He would like to kill Americans, but wanting to is different from being able to, having the full capabilities in place.[11]
In the interview, Johnson doubted the ability of members of bin Laden's organization to plan and put their lives on the line:
There's not another Ali or Mustafa out there at this point and Osama bin Laden in my view has not been a very effective organizer or leader. He talks a great game and puts out terrific threats as far as stirring the passions in the United States and maybe firing up the imaginations of some young Muslims throughout the world. But when push comes to shove, can he get a group of people who are together who will say: we are going to plan an operation, we're going to put our lives on the line, we're going to go out and try and kill people and we don't care what the consequence is? It hasn't happened.[12]
Frontline asked:
[Is it] ... fair to say what you're saying is that the president of the United States, his national security advisor, his deputy national security advisor for counter-terrorism, are basically blowing smoke [about the danger posed by bin Laden] and his followers]?
Johnson responded:
They're grossly exaggerating the problem. They are hyping it. They shouldn't be talking about rising terrorism. Instead of saying "terrorism's rising," it's not. "Terrorism is spreading," it's not. "More people are dying from terrorism," not the case. But what they should be saying is, "There's one individual out there that really doesn't like us, and he's made it his mission in life to kill Americans, and we've gotta deal with him." But we need to have a voice of reason in that process instead of putting ourselves out crying wolf, because this is essentially what's taking place right now. They call it the administration that cries wolf.[12]
[edit]2000
Johnson co-authored an article in 2000 with Milt Bearden which focused on the threat posed by al-Qaeda specifically, rather than terrorism trends in general. Beardon and Johnson note that new information emerging about the bombings at Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 points to the threat posed by Imad Mugniyah and Osama Bin Laden will require "a coordinated policy that will employ a full range of covert, clandestine, diplomatic, and military operations," concluding:
The Clinton Administration has shot its bolt on the terrorist problem with small effect, and no last minute show of force will change the record. A new administration can start afresh with a more sharply defined set of terrorism goals – Mughniyeh and bin Laden and their protectors for starters – and bring the full, coordinated force of American diplomatic, military, and intelligence capabilities to bear on the problem.[13]
[edit]2001
After Johnson's testimony to the special forum at the U.S. Senate, Gary J. Schmitt, executive director and CEO of the Project for the New American Century, refers in the Daily Standard (blog) to an op-ed piece Johnson wrote two months prior to the 9/11 attacks, claiming that Johnson argued that the US had little to fear from terrorism.[14]
In an editorial entitled "The Declining Terrorist Threat," published in the New York Times on 10 July 2001, Johnson says:
Judging from news reports and the portrayal of villains in our popular entertainment, Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism.... None of these beliefs are based in fact.... While terrorism is not vanquished, in a world where thousands of nuclear warheads are still aimed across the continents, terrorism is not the biggest security challenge confronting the United States, and it should not be portrayed that way.[15]
Ten days after the 9/11 attacks, after quoting the above passage, Timothy Noah concludes a post in his "Chatterbox" feature at Slate: "Johnson's analysis, we now see, was bold, persuasive, and 100 percent wrong."[16] Johnson defended himself against such attacks:
The rightwing is resurrecting an op-ed I wrote in July 2001. I stand by the full article. It is still relevant today. I am accused, incorrectly, of ignoring the threat of terrorism. In fact, I correctly noted that the real threat emanated from Bin Laden and Islamic extremism. President Bush, for his part, ignored the CIA warning in August 2001 that Al Qaeda was posed to strike inside the United States.[17]
After September 11, Johnson appeared several times on FOX News to address the question of military action against terrorism. On 14 November, he defended the FBI's proposal to interview 5,000 students in the U.S. suspected of having information relevant to the September 11 investigations:
I think they should talk to everyone that they feel they have a need to talk to. I mean, look, this is war. This is not a legal proceeding. This isn't the O.J. Simpson trial. The folks that attacked us -- they murdered Americans. And we've got to recognize that in wartime, we should do things differently.[18]
[edit]2003
In January 2003, Johnson wrote an analysis of the relationship between the upcoming U.S. invasion of Iraq and the threat of transnational terrorism. According to Johnson, Bremer's response was to tell him that "it didn't matter what Saddam did or didn't do, we were going to war."[19] The paper warned that an invasion would "do little to destroy the infrastructure of radical Islamic terrorism responsible for the 9-11 attacks." Noting that Saddam Hussein's regime has been a longtime supporter of regional terrorist organizations such as the PLO, Johnson examines contacts between Saddam Hussein and transnational terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda:
There is no doubt that Iraq is a state sponsor of terrorism—i.e., a country that provides financial support, safe haven, training, or weapons and explosives to groups or individuals that carry out terrorist attacks. . . . According to Central Intelligence Agency data, there is no credible evidence implicating Iraq in any mass casualty terrorist attacks since 1991. . . .
Johnson notes that the period immediately leading up to 2003 saw a rise of activity surrounding terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, suggesting that "Iraq is willing to help a movement that it would otherwise oppose on ideological grounds. Nonetheless," Johnson concludes, "it is important to understand that Iraqi entreaties to Al Qaeda, are most likely intended as a tactic to bolster Iraq’s ability to fight off a U.S. invasion rather than a deep-seated theological and ideological commitment to the terrorist agenda of Bin Laden.[20]
In that analysis Johnson also warns that the U.S.-led invasion was likely to backfire:
In fact there is a serious risk that a U.S. led war against Iraq may crystallize the diffused anger in the Arab and Muslim world — a heretofore unattained goal of bin Laden and his followers — and persuade more Muslim youths to take up the terrorist banner against America and her citizens.... If we decide to invade Iraq we must be prepared for the contingency that our attack will inspire young Muslims to pursue jihad against the West in general and the United States in particular. Just as the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan rallied many Muslims, especially young adults to the cause of jihad, a U.S. attack may enable Islamic extremists to attract new followers.[20]
Johnson also gave interviews on the topic of what to do with captured al-Qaeda leaders; while he did not condone torture, he suggested that a "sleep deprivation and reward system" might be useful for getting information from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed:
I don't see a constitutional right to have eight hours of sleep. You shouldn't subject someone to freezing but they don't get to wear mink coats, either.[21]
In May 2003, Johnson joined members of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) in condemning the manipulation of intelligence for political purposes:
It is a misuse and abuse of intelligence. The president was being misled. He was ill served by the folks who are supposed to protect him on this. Whether this was witting or unwitting, I don't know, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.[22]
[edit]Plame affair
After Robert Novak wrote a column identifying the wife of former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson as a CIA officer, the media invited Johnson to comment on the ensuing scandal because he had been a member of the same Career Trainee class with Valerie Plame Wilson. For example, in October 2003, he appeared on Democracy Now to discuss the Plame affair. He told interviewer Amy Goodman that Valerie Wilson's cover should have been respected whether she was an "analyst" or a "cleaning lady": "if she's undercover she's undercover, period. If the media allows themselves to get distracted with those kinds of curve balls, they ignore the issue."[23]
He told a Senate Democratic Policy Committee in October 2003, "My classmates and I have been betrayed. Together, we have kept the secrets of each other's identities a secret for 18 years. Each and every one of us have kept that secret, whether we were in the CIA, in other government service or in the private sector. But this issue is not just about a blown cover. It is about the destruction of the very essence, the core of human intelligence collection activities: plausible deniability, apparently, for partisan domestic political reasons."[24]
Johnson testified at a special joint hearing of Congressional and Senate Democrats on 22 July 2005 about the consequences arising from the Plame affair.[25]
[edit]2008
In 2008, Johnson emerged as a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton and a strong critic of Barack Obama. Larry Johnson's blog, NoQuarterUSA, became a rally point for Clinton supporters wary of Barack Obama's qualifications to be president. Supporters of Barack Obama insist that a story that first appeared on Johnson's blog--a report that Republican operatives have a tape of Michelle Obama making racially insenstive comments about caucasians--has been "refuted" Barack Obama's Fight the Smears website.[26]. However, Johnson never claimed to have the tape and reported that the Republican operatives controlling it intended to release the tape sometime after the Democratic Convention in August 2008. On October 21, however, he asserted that the operative in possession of the tape had been instructed by the McCain campaign not to release it.[27]

It is, to be sure, a little bit cheap (and slightly at odds with the usual parameters of this feature) to criticize someone for making an erroneous prediction, particularly after a tragedy. Chatterbox is especially reluctant to tag Johnson because Johnson's op-ed was argued forcefully, backed up meticulously with factual data, and bravely at odds with conventional wisdom at the time of its publication. Add in that Johnson now makes his living as a consultant to corporations about terrorism, and therefore had everything to gain by exaggerating the dangers terrorism poses, and the guy practically looks like a hero. Chatterbox, who two decades ago was an editor for the New York Times op-ed page, would have published Johnson's piece had he still been an editor there this past July. In his capacity at Slate, Chatterbox might well have written up Johnson's prediction, and perhaps even endorsed it.
But boy, is he glad he didn't! Johnson's analysis, we now see, was bold, persuasive, and 100 percent wrong. Sadly, a mistake this embarrassing cannot be ignored. As a fellow skeptic, Chatterbox in all sincerity wishes Johnson better luck next time.

Oh yes he can. Based on Barack’s triple back flip today, if you are part of the “black community” or Barack’s white granny you got to be nervous. Please reconcile Barack’s statement today to the press with what he said in Philadelphia about Jeremiah Wright:
I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.
Yes he can and yes he did. Run Grandma, run.

In the meantime, Richardson has been cavorting with Hugo Chavez ( to the chagrin of Columbia gov’t) trying to get FARC to release captives and shore up his bid for Sec of State. All of which no one is talking about because Wright’s in the headlines. Obama’s name showed up on Raul Reyes computer after he was taken out. Obama was seen as friendly to the cause. See the story at IBD editorials
Well, Richardson might as well give it up. Hillary is not going to make him Sec of State.
This is definitely cover-your-ass time for Obama. Jump into the fox hole and hope to come out when the firing stops.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what the bitter gun toting white folks think about all this next week.
How much time has Wright been given this week on the MSM?
Is he the big story?
I’m bringing this up from the previous thread, as it seems pertinent:
Here’s an interesting bit of news. The woman sitting next to Wright and whispering in his ear before his speech at the National Press Club was Barbara Reynolds, a Howard University School of Divinity teacher and a strong AA Hillary supporter. Here’s a bit of the story as seen at New York Daily News:
On a blog linked to her Web site- http://www.reynoldsnews.com- Reynolds said in a February post: “My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you” to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton’s presidency.
The same post criticized Obama’s “Audacity of Hope” theme: “Hope by definition is not based on facts,” wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time.”
In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: “It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement.”
http://preview.tinyurl.com/6asmlp
and this is supposed to show what?
Don’t you know? It’s ALL HILLARY’S FAULT. She used her powerful mind control powers to force poor misunderstood Rev. Wright to dance around like a jackass, making fun of white people and JFK and LBJ. Therefore destroying Obama’s run for the presidency. DAMN YOU HILLARY CLINTON AND YOUR OMNIPOTENT OVARIAN MINDCONTROL POWERS!!!!!!PS go over to any pro Obama site right now and read the comments. You won’t believe your eyes…well, maybe you will, we’re talking Obamabots afterall.
“Ovarian mindcontrol powers”??? I am SO stealing this!
Too funny. Thanks for the chuckle. The post/video are awesome too.
Wright feels angry Obama threw him under the bus, ridiculing his career, diminishing him and his credibility. Obama referred to him as an eccentric “uncle,” in an attempt to mitigate Wright’s image, further implying he was, well, a nut.
Wright, according to this passage, was offended.
This bit is interesting and news worthy. So she did not like what Obama did to his pastor. The good pastor did not like what Obama did to him. So she invited him to NPC to reclaim his reputation. Now, Obama has made it worse today.
The slug-fest between the pastor and his protege? My only request is leave us alone and drop out of the race.
Larry, you are doing yeoman’s work today. Thanks for the hard work!

Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) Endorses Clinton
By Eric Kleefeld - April 29, 2008, 3:50PM
Hillary Clinton has picked up a big super-delegate endorsement, with the campaign announcing the support of Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and a key rural Democrat.
Skelton cited Hillary’s strengths in rural areas as major reason for his support, plus her positions on national security. This further ties in with the efforts Hillary has made to overpower Obama among white rural voters in places like Pennsylvania and now North Carolina, and complements her endorsement this morning from North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley.
yay..I’m from Missouri…finally some good news to combat my idiot congresswoman Claire McCaskill’s endorsement of BO. Way to go IKE!
Well Done Larry….They are jumpin ship….
awesome video! thanks for posting

Thanks for the Tip….
Perfect Larry…I’m Laughing like Hell…
I am going to be very busy Troll drill thrall!
Funny, everything was just fine after Wright appeared with Bill Moyers for the PBS interview. BUT, after the live speech to the National Press Club, everybody got an uncensored listen to what Wright really believes. What I find so amusing and no pundits have pointed out was that Wright kept referring to things he said to Bill Moyers that apparently were “edited” out (Wright’s words not mine). Wonder what those things were and why they got edited out. You can fool some of the people some of the time…….
Yeah! He was even much more subdued and calm like they had given him a Xanax!
And he is an emotional wreck waiting for more about his past to surface.
Its time for Democrats to move on from this soap opera drama that is Obama his entourage and his starring role as Obama the Pious Grievance slayer of helplessness is sick. The wallowing in victim hood and dependency is beyond creepy now it has now morphed into a movement of anti social pathologies. Call a doctor before your dead in Nov..
Oh yes, they need to be shaking. I’m not shaking because I didn’t ever want him to “own” me and I haven’t ever “owned” him. The jackass. You guys are right, “mutually assured self-destruction” and I’m almost ashamed to say, I’m going to enjoy nearly every minute of it.
Hey Sugarrrrrrr!!
Any bets on a concession speech date?
Probably after she cleans his clock in Indiana, WV & KY.
I do feel a bit sorry for him for stumbling so bad. Makes me wonder who the hell has been advising him for the last YEAR.
Ha! Dawnelle, I’m betting he now vows to take it all the way to the convention! lol I want to see that smug face hand it over to her in front of millions! Not some phoned in concession speech. I’m especially feeling an “I told you so” moment coming on. That might even be the title of my next blog post. lol
That might not be so bad — lemons to lemon aid.
Four years ago the networks didn’t want to do a full convention coverage . . . yawn, whine, no body is interested blah blah.
Now this year people are interested and engaged. I believe that people really see that their choice — their vote can make a profound difference in the direction (and fate) of our Nation.
So let Obama limp along — that way hopefully we will be rid of him once and for all. He can go back to Chicago politics and live on his past glory. (Or he’ll join Rezko etc. in a jail cell.)
I’ll bet this year there is going to be a whole lot more interest in the Dem Convention.
And a whole lot more people have become interesting in politics — I see this as a good thing.
The media has got to be cleaned up — and the candidates MUST BE VETTED before they almost walk away with the nomination.
Thank god/dess for Hillary who would not give up. Any other candidate might have given up (and most did give up) — but Hillary hang on — because she is a fighter — and that’s what we need right now. Someone willing to FIGHT. We don’t need a mr. nice guy (and THAT isn’t Obama anyway.)
I’m just sad that the AA community got taken by a con man.
Hillary did not give up because she knew if she stayed in the contest long enough, he will be exposed, and it is all unfolding right before our eyes.
Go girl
do you really think that he will withdraw. would you want to go home and then face michelle. personally i think she was the one strong in the rev’s church. i am wondering if he will take it to the convention.

Obama’s run for the presidency is DEAD ON ARRIVAL. He should have distanced himself weeks ago, not give a “historic speech now available on VHS or DVD for $24.95 plus shipping and handling.”
Right … when he was praising caesar and burying grandma …
I saw that speech for $1.99 at T.J. Maxx, up near the perfume, sunglasses, and popcorn flavored Jelly Bellys.
Thank God it’s Tuesday. This has all week to play out!

I wrote:
Obama is toast. He sat in that church for 20 years, knew exactly what this man was about, and now he expects us to believe it’s all news to him? He is insulting the entire country, and especially those that supported him. He should step down now for the good of the country, and work out his problems on his own time.
Does Obama really think he can walk away from this? He must be drinking his own Koolade now.
He probably finished off all of his white wine watching tapes of the thrilla from the press club!
Obama and Wright will always be thought of as one person from now on. They’ve been welded together and Jeff/B-lob hoping this goes away because they demand it does not change this fact.
Obama is SHOCKED.. SHOCKED, I TELL YOU!!! He can hardly believe that THIS was Wright was talking about all those years. Thank GOD for the Press Club gig to show Obama what Wright was really talking about… I mean, in 20 years, and in owning Wright’s tapes, he never put 2 and 2 together.
Laughable. Now OBama is asking people to believe that he’s just enraged by Wright’s views. Yeah.. Obama, welcome to the ‘where the fuck have you been Party?’
And I’m thinking OBama will need a caravan of busses this week. With the liberal bloggers he tossed under the bus during his face time with Fox, and his disowning Wright (and his own church, and many of his fans). I found a new theme song for his campaign:

Sorry folks, let’s face it: Obama had a really solid response, and the media is eating it up.
Oh thank GOD Jeff is back! I really need some troll dung for my victory garden.
Jeff, sweetie, did you get that lawn mowed already? Hope you have some koolaid in the fridge.
Your bait is stale.
Obama thinks his shit doesn’t smell and he has convinced you and all the other Obama supporters it doesn’t.
Sounds like YOU’RE eating it up, Jeffy. You probably need a big ole glass of koolaid to wash it down with.
Gulp gulp gulp….hope change hope change hope change…birdies singing, rainbows, butterflies, elves, fairies, stars….
“the media is eating it up”
Yes, but will the public? Twenty years of association, inspiration towards a book, baptism, marriage, blessing towards his presidential bid (from the basement), and he had no inkling of what a loose cannon his spiritual adviser was until now? Well, I have a bridge for sale for you.

I agree that the good folks at No Quarter, and all the other people who were never going to vote for a Barack Obama anyway, will not be swayed by his statement today.
Yawn.
OH MAN ,,
I GOT GAS,,,,U HAVE TUMS,,,,,OH
Amen, so to speak. Right about that, Jeffy.
Obama is the LAST person on this planet I would vote for.
The good people on No Quarter aren’t going to help mister hipster, the rap star cum chicago pol, get elected.
Jeff….Wright said that Obama was a politician who says what he needs to say.
Sharpton said Obama was grandstanding to impress the crackers.
It is a one two punch.
No matter what Obama said today…..His own base of AA’s will be split.
It will continue to crack along generational lines.
“It is a one two punch.”
By pygmies. Against a political giant. Sorry, not gonna fly.
A political Giant? A political giant never has a glass jaw. A Political Giant never gets caught with his pants down in a debate and then stalks off and sulks for being stupid enough to get caught with his pants down. A Political Giant is Always Prepared. A Political Giant is never afraid to debate. A Political Giant never looks like he’s been rode hard and put away wet. A Political Giant can actually string two words together impromptu without saying Ahhhhhhh Uhhhhhhh.
The Political Giant you’re describing is only one person…and HER name is Hillary.
“A political giant never has a glass jaw.”
You know what I call a glass jaw? Burning through $100 million on your own “inevitability” argument, then losing 12 contests straight. That’s a glass jaw, my friend.
“A Political Giant never gets caught with his pants down in a debate and then stalks off and sulks for being stupid enough to get caught with his pants down.”
Right, unlike a certain candidate who complains during the actual debate about the questions she’s getting.
A Political Giant is Always Prepared.
No, because no one is always prepared. There is no school for this job, no set of position papers that will get you through any crisis if properly memorized. It’s not about being “always prepared”, it’s about your innate judgment, and cool instincts under pressure.
A Political Giant is never afraid to debate.
Try 21.
A Political Giant never looks like he’s been rode hard and put away wet.
Right, because FDR never looked completely exhausted a day in his life…
“A Political Giant can actually string two words together impromptu without saying Ahhhhhhh Uhhhhhhh.”
How about someone who sounds like a human being when they speak, rather than a fucking robot?
21 doesn’t fly. The two candidates had FOUR debates; The rest were pissant forums that were “called” debates. But I know you already know that. ELEVEN MILLION people watched the last one. I hardly think they have “had enough” It’s you Obama people who have had enough. Can’t say I blame you. The man is a dismal debater to begin with, so no sense of allowing another couple of million people watch him do more of the same. Another sign of NOT a “Political Giant”.
Oh and FDR was a very sick man. Barack may have the same problem, but only from the neck up. And Obama is no FDR either.
“It’s you Obama people who have had enough.”
You’re right about that. I’m certainly not interested in sitting through another 90-minute spectacle of Wrightgate, Snipergate, Fingergate, Bittergate, Penngate, Ayersgate, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It gets our country nowhere fast, and Obama knows it.
Well see Jeffy, there are many other people in America besides BHO supporters. And I can’t help it if the whole list of potential McCain ads is heavily on your mind.
The truth is, Jeff. BHO will never be listed with FDR, JFK, RFK or MLK.
If Obama was smart he’d take Clinton up on that Lincoln-Douglas debate challenge right now. It will help change the subject for him…and he REALLY needs the subject to change.
Well Jeff Obama looked pretty winded to me….
Rode hard. Put away wet. This horse can’t run anymore. Lame. Very lame.
jeff, in your world pigs fly and all sorts of stranges things happen i think
jeff, in your world pigs fly and all sorts of strange things happen i think
No, Sharpton said WRIGHT was grandstanding…
No Sharpton said Obama was Grandstanding to impress White
People because Obama got in the man’s business in NYC.
Sharpton gave Obama a classic and DEVASTATING SMACKDOWN.
Nor will you be swayed by facts.
Jeff swallows too much hope. He does not realize you can’t hope something into existence.
Only if you watch CNN. Unfortunately, those “hicks” watch Fox. And it’s not pretty.

Didn’t Obama in the last few days also throw progressives under the bus?
That’s exactly the kind of president he would be and why I would have a hard time voting for him. He’s the Mitt Romney of the Democratic Party. If he were running against anyone but Hillary he’d have been laughed off the stage months ago.
“Didn’t Obama in the last few days also throw progressives under the bus?”
How’s that?

I CALLED AND THANKED THEM .. PLEASE LET HILL SUPPORTERS KNOW THAT SHE HAS GRASS ROOT SUPPORT
The amazing thing is that this clown could have just WAITED 4 to 8 years to run for POTUS. He could have quietly changed churches (gone mainstream). He could cut his ties with Ayers and Rezko, and then have 6 to 10 years distance between them. He could have set it up.
But noooooo. He had to have it NOW because it looked soooo easy. Be the last man standing against Hillary, let the “I H8 Hillary” MSM do its job, and then face whatever poor Repub was left holding the bag for George W. Bush. The situation was too good to be true!
But like most things that look too good to be true, it wasn’t.
Did the Rezko indictment force the schedule up? Did they think he wasn’t going to be touched by that? Chicago politics as usual?
Almost Shakespearian. Remember to old anti-LBJ play “McBird”? This could be “McDodobird”.
You just KNOW Kennedy and Kerry pushed BO into this. BO has been Kerry’s muse for quite some time now.
Maybe Kerry was thinking he’d get a VP spot out of it?
I can’t believe I wasted my vote on him. Even though BUSH is worse. Still, aren’t there ANY unflawed politicians left in America? JEZ!
ok I would say WES CLARK is close
that’s about it and he’s NOT a politician which explains it. lol
Take advice on how to win from Kerry. Smart move. lol.
Narcissists don’t like to wait for glory.
“The amazing thing is that this clown could have just WAITED 4 to 8 years to run for POTUS.”
Yeah, why didn’t he just “wait his turn”?
What’s strange to me is why that would make a difference to the posters here who loathe Obama with a contempt typically reserved for Adolf Hitler.
In this case “wait his turn” might actually mean “Learn Something”.
Agree…But he was a man in a hurry….
I have no SYMPATHY for this man….He has sought to tear down my party.
He has denegrated the best political weapon the democrats have The Clinton/Gore administration.
He has played the race card.
His ambition has caught up with him.
When Sharpton said he was granstanding for CRACKERS it could not be more explicit than that. BABY-O should not have stepped on Sharptons toes.
Uppity and others have a much more extensive lists of the crimes of stupidity and cupidity comitted by this candidate.
Today Al Sharpton is my hero of the day….
“He has sought to tear down my party.”
Utter nonsense. He’s grown the party by millions of new voters this year.
“He has denegrated the best political weapon the democrats have The Clinton/Gore administration.”
Democrats have a lot more than the past to offer the present, and the future. You can’t sell the same old damaged goods year after year. Like John Edwards said, the problem with nostalgia is that people tend to only remember the good parts. Besides, if it’s history you want to sell, you’d do a lot better with FDR or Johnson’s domestic policies than anything Clinton was able to accomplish.
Then you toss this argument out:
“He has played the race card”
And then destroy your own argument with this bit of blah:
“Today Al Sharpton is my hero of the day….”
The two simply don’t fit.
Hey….Jeff…Obama stepped on Sharptons toes and the man stood up for himself…..
If he spoke the truth about your candidate why should that upset me…..I think he said what was on his mind….Let’s see…
to paraphrase….Obama was grandstanding to impress the CRACKERMAN….( Whitey ) if you prefer….
Obama will be taken down by two preachers that he pissed off.
My main point is that you’ve revealed to be someone who employs faux outrage over “using the race card” as a campaign tactic, without really giving a damn about it. The proof is that you actually called Al Sharpton your “hero”.
If a man says it like it is why not…..Jeff
Al Sharpton called Obama a PHONY who was grandstaning to impress white people…..WHY ?
Because Obama called for NO VIOLENCE IN NYC WHEN SHARPTON ALREADY HAD IT UNDER CONTOL…..
OBAMA stepped out of bounds.
SHARPTON TOOK THIS AS BOTH A PERSONAL INSULT AND AN INSULT TO NEW YORKERS….
The man called it for what it was…a political stunt played to crackers….A SHAM…
It would be nice to know why he didn’t. Whose money persuaded him to go for it. Was it strategic or was it the grift. Axelrod reminds me more of Jack Abramoff than Karl Rove. All make their livings and get their jollies by getting people to gag at gnats and swallow camels.
Obama wasn’t supposed to be the candidate. Blagojevich was but that went down the drain when Operation Board Games was discovered. Obama already had Obama 2010 set up for Senate re-election. In mid 2006 Obama tested waters; December 2006 was still undecided and nothing for sure; but in 2007 Obama suddenly started doling out thousands in Hopefund money to prospective endorsers and state Dem committees.

The first women to run for president
Made headlines when she cried
Was vilified when she fought
Was hated for being who she was
The first woman to run for president
Had scars from being too tough and too weak
Was crucified in the media
Was incessantly pushed to drop out
The first women to run for president
Showed the courage of a million men
Carried the dreams of every woman
Carried the heart of every mother
The first woman to run for president
Stood tall when they attacked
Never gave up on any child
Never gave in to any defeat
And now those who called her by another name
Call her Madame President today
Still she works for everyone
Still she fights for all
The first woman to run for president

Hillary ‘08
Very nice. Made me smile.
Watching Barry and his trolls implode makes me smile.
Al Sharpton made me smile….
it’s not senator obama’s association with the rev wright’s church that is going to do him in,
the thing that is going to hurt obama the most about his “apology” today
is that it is a transparent politician’s lie.
just a run-of-the-mill, dime-a-dozen, ass-in-a-crack lie of the sort that politicians tell anytime, all the time, when they get caught.
but barack is not supposed to be just “any politician”. he is selling himself as the transcendent anti-politician, above politics, and presumably above political lying.
so, it’ll be the lie, not the “crime” that does obama in.
to reprise:
barack obama has been a member of the rev’s church for twenty years. he married obama. he counseled obama. he baptized obama’s children. obama entitled one of his book’s after a sermon by the rev.
and we are supposed to believe that,
THROUGHOUT ALL THOSE ASSOCIATIONS, FOR ALL THOSE TWENTY YEARS,
senator obama never, ever heard the rev say anything like the rev said yesterday at the national press club?
come on, barry. who you tryin’ to kid?
I agree with you. It’s not the substance of his relationship, it’s the politicking in this. When you run on a thin resume, and have only your character and judgment to offer, it had better be above reproach.
He comes off as someone willing to do or say anything to get elected. I think that, oddly enough, Obama’s two-faced actions in the past few days make Wright almost a sympathetic character. I’d have more respect for someone if they just owned up to it all, and stood by that person, and let the chips fall where they may. Win or lose, it’s about being an authentic person.
He should have never been in that church or been Wrights “friend” if he didn’t really feel that way. But to go back and trash him now, because it’s politically expedient, makes him look like a jerk.
If Axelrove had anything to do with this, to stage all of this, well.. it’s backfired in their faces. But I have a feeling this is quite real. Perhaps Wright, being a strong person, said ‘enough is enough’, I’m not going to be handled by Obama and Axelrove. Deal with it.
Shapin up to be a FINE STRING OF PRIMARY WINS FOR SEN. CLINTON….
Worse thing BABY-O could do was piss off those two preachers at the same time…..These men ( Wright and Sharpton ) will put him in his place…..
jeff, solid responce ? are you kidding ? that bumbling stuttering scared the shit out of me ! he’s done, he’s a trapped little weenie.
“that bumbling stuttering scared the shit out of me !”
If that “scared” you, maybe you need someone to stay up a little later, read you a nice story, and leave the light on when they close the door. Good grief.
Yep…Thats OUR Hillary…
So, What does America Need..
A Grumpy Old Dad figure whose going Senile..??
A Spoiled Kid..turned Elitest with Radical friends..?? Whose Inmaturity always comes through.
A Perfect Mom type who has put everything together as a Woman and a Public Servant who really is a “ROLE MODEL”..for ALL of us..??
BYE EVERYONE
ITS TIME TO MAKE CALLS
100 FOR ME
BYEEEEEEEEEEEE
Wes Clark… the next Secretary of State!
Not Secretary of Defense?
Y not VP?
SOS would also be good
SOD is not allowed (I don’t think) because he’s not been out of the military for long enough. OR so I’ve heard.
He’s too good for that. Sec of Def to one of the Generals or Admirals for Hill. We need Clark on the diplomatic stage.
But we shouldn’t count our chickens before they have come home to roost (a mistake Barry made).
P.S. Next Obama presser on Wright, “I never knew the man. Never knew him, never saw him, never heard him.”
Hey, notice Obama’s lies in his speech again, saying he has only known Wright since 1992, so how come he had Wrights speeches at Harvard from 1988 to 1991 for then as he says in his book?
Axelrod, kool aiders might buy your story today, but real folks, bitter gun totin bible thumpin people don’t, even when you send your guy out to clear the air, you spead more lies!
This and all the rest isn’t going to go away, from Wright to granny to Ayers to REZKO, it is about Obama and it is about his judgement he expects everyone to believe in, well sorry, a denouncement based on a lie is no denouncing, just more lies!
Jeff claims Obama handled this and the MSM accepts his explanation. If he really believed that he would not be here. Once again Jeff thinks hope makes things real.
Jeff can only spew out what Axelrod instructs him to spew out!
What we need wait for is Michelle Obama, how PROUD is she today? The balls of the family needs to speak out, after all she is the man of the family isn’t she?
But hope really does make things real.
Hope made most of the human race. Daddy hoped to get a piece; mommy hoped to get some peace - instead they got us.
The Iraq debacle was different triumph of hope and wishful thinking over experience.
It is a costly virtue which should never be exercised without prudence and temperance.
I have to get some work done, but I wanted to add this thought..
Perhaps Wright went out on his PR tour not because Obama threw him under the bus, but Obama and Axelrove have been asking Wright to sit in the back of the bus. You know… c’mon Rev. just sit tight and be quiet until the election is over. You have your nice house, you have “retired”, just lay low and be quiet. Heck, it’s already in the NYT from last year that there was a rift when Obama uninvited Wright from an event because he was “too controversial”
Rev. Wright doesn’t strike me as a guy that’s gonna sit in the back of the bus for anyone, not even Obama. Because it’s not about Obama anymore, he’s surrounded by an inner circle of white and wealthy republicans and elitists, who want Wright to just disappear completely. The sooner the better. Maybe the Rev. got wise and realized he’d spent too many years of his life doing what he does to be put out to pasture that way.
It’s very plausible. So, do you think that Ayers and Dohrn are going to disappear for him, too?
Rodan vs. Godzilla. lol.
pms -
how about wes clark,
candidate for vice-president of the united states.
either way, he’s a great guy .
(but i sure hope he ain’t been going to the same church for a long time).
We need Clark to get us out of Iraq and Get BIN LADIN….
Clark for Sec. of Defense
Maybe Clark for Secretary of Defense and Senator Evan Bayh for Vice President and Indiana goes Democratic this November.
Could be….I see her asking a govenor but Bayh could put the mid-west block of real estate in the democratic fold….Hmmmmm…..
Have’nt had 2 senators win in a long time…..Maybe…….
You know, it’s so ironic. Looking around at the blogs, I see that the Obamabots, when they’re trying to distract from the fiasco that is BO, say, “Hey, don’t look at that, look at the issues!” But it is specifically addressing issues that is anathema to Barack. He’s all about the elusive Hope and Change - the better not to get pinned down, my dear.
This whole thing has been staged. Wright coming out and being over the top outrageous and Obama distancing himself from him publicly. It is a direct result from the ads being played in NC and LA linking Obama and Wright and the polls beginning to tighten up or shift toward Hillary.
Obama began his news conference stating that he was outraged and saddened. But he looked neither.
He talked about how bad it was that Wright said those horrible things about our government creating aids to kill blacks. He said that it was terrible to declare Louis Farrakhan a great man. And he said that it was wrong for Wright to compare US wars with terrorism.
And yet we have heard all of these things before. Several times in fact. And Obama found it within the content of his character to stand up for Wright time and time again explaining away his heinous statements as crazy uncle speak.
This is a political stunt. Well planned and well executed for the most part. But it should fool no one. The few people I have discussed this with immediately said that it was all a put on. And I for one am not going to cut Obama any slack at all.
At a minimum this goes to his judgment.
You KNOW the tide is turning when you’re actually able to watch CNN and the panel on Anderson Cooper is saying the Wright debaucle is a bad thing for Obama. And Roland is pissed off and isn’t defending Barry or Wright. And David Gergen looks disappointed and worried. And there are actually Hillary supporters on a panel who get to talk.
You all know this is going to make Michelle Obama not PROUD of her country again! How’s the poor girl going to be able to keep up her nice new 1.75 million dollar home if people don’t believe in Barack’s dream of being President on an INFOMERCIAL type campaign visa vie David Axelrod and Remco?
lol. Mel, some people are afraid of recreate68. I, for one, am more afraid of Michelle Obama.
I think I’d run and hide if I saw her coming towards me.
She is one scary person, even when she is smiling…lol
LOL Mel….Of course after BABY-O threw Wright and his church under the bus to please Crackers at the top ( Sharpton alluded to this ) I think that house in Chicago will go up for sell….That is after Meeeeeeehelle pays her property taxes….And it’s a bad housing market too….
Wes Clark for VP, Joseph Wilson for Sec of State, Valerie Plame for director of Homeland Security, Paul Krugman for head of the Federal Reserve, Larry for Director of the CIA…
Obama threw Jimmy Carter and the lefty blogs like DailyKos under the bus, too.
The man is a “stepper”.
All he wants to do is climb the ladder, and he doesn’t mind stepping all over people to get where he wants to go. He got bored with being in the Illinois House so he ran for the Illinois Senate, where he quickly got bored and then ran for the US Senate. Now he’s bored with campaigning in the primary.
well, at least Obama won’t have to be “bored” much longer. Ho, hum… I guess it’s back to the Senate where he can vote “present” until his term expires…
and then it’s back to Illinois as Rezko bagman.
Of course, they’ll probably seize the house cause they’ll figure out that somehow some drug money was involved in the purchase (maybe Larry Sinclair can help them there). Oh well, at least Barry will have some time to improve on that 37 bowling score.
Of course, I guess Trinity won’t be welcoming him back with open arms either. Hmmm. Where’s Barry gonna live? I guess he can move in with Bill and
madame Dohrn… of course they might have to giving up their bitchin’ 60s style pad, cause they’re probably both going to be fired from their jobs teaching America’s youth to be tiny-tot-terrorists.
And I guess Barry won’t be able to work as Rezko’s bagman after all, cause Rezko will be in jail. Well, there’s always his friend Mayor Daley… Oh forget that, Daley will probably be in jail…Well there’s the governor.. oh forget that, he’ll probably be in jail. Well at least he has his relationship with Michelle to fall back on. Maybe not… she just looks so dang irritable, I’m not sure she’s not gonna go for “greener” pasture.
Hmm… there’s always Hawaii. Or Idaho…. they seem to love him in Idaho. Maybe he can be in charge of “student spirit” at the University of Idaho and get the crowds going before football games.
Oh Barry, could you take Kennedy,Kerry,Durbin,Daschle, and the other reindeer with you when you go… you see we’re trying to clean up in here….trying to make some space for people who can make relevant, positive change happen in our country. We really don’t need the extra weight.
one good thing about Chicago pols is they usually get indicted for something before they get to be president.
I can’t help it but thru this whole thread, I have that silly “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” song going on in my head.
I think it’s “Grandma got run over by the blame, dear”
lol
This is a real live Political soap opera.
Bad guys, good guys — the liars and double talkers.
At some point they are going to have to get new script writers. The writers must be working double shift with all the plot twists — and double crosses.
The new fresh face on this soap opera — turns out to be a con artist from the OTHER soap opera called Chicago.
When the book is written — and books will be written — about the characters I suspect that even the back story will be another soap opera.
Obama sure has a history of throwing people under the bus. It’s getting crowded down here.
If he’d do it to his own grandma, if he’d do it to his minister of 20 years, you know he’d do it to we the people.
I am so sick of anyone suggesting that Bill Clinton wasn’t one of the best presidents in my lifetime. Remember….
1. Longest economic expansion in American history*–a record 115 months of economic expansion
2. More than 22 million new jobs: more than 22 million jobs were created in less than eight years — the most ever under a single administration
3. Highest home ownership in American history
4. Made the Federal government smaller (a feat matched only by Harry Truman; if you like small government, vote Democratic)
5. Lowest unemployment in 30 years: unemployment dropped from more than 7 percent in 1993 to just 4.0 percent in November 2000; unemployment for African Americans and Hispanics fell to the lowest rates on record, and the rate for women was the lowest in more than 40 years
6. Largest expansion of college opportunity since the GI Bill
7. Connected 95 percent of schools to the Internet
8. Lowest crime rate in 26 years
9. Family and Medical Leave Act for 20 million Americans
10. Smallest welfare rolls in 32 years
11. Higher incomes at all levels: after falling by nearly $2,000 between 1988 and 1992, the median family’s income rose by $6,338, after adjusting for inflation; all income brackets experienced double-digit growth; the bottom 20 percent saw the largest income growth at 16.3 percent
12. Lowest poverty rate in 20 years: the poverty rate declined from 15.1 percent to 11.8 percent in 1999–the largest six-year drop in poverty in nearly 30 years
13. Lowest teen birth rate in 60 years
14. Lowest infant mortality rate in American history
15. Deactivated more than 1,700 nuclear warheads* from the former Soviet Union: efforts of the Clinton-Gore Administration led to the dismantling of more than 1,700 nuclear warheads, 300 launchers and 425 land and submarine based missiles from the former Soviet Union
16. Paid off $360 billion of the national debt: under Clinton, we were on track to pay off the entire debt by 2009; what a difference a stolen election makes…
17. Converted the largest budget deficit in American history to the largest surplus
18. Lowest government spending in three decades
19. Lowest federal income tax burden in 35 years
20. More families owned stock than ever before
21. Most New Jobs Ever Created Under a Single Administration: Republicans really chew the rug when you mention this one, so it’s worth repeating constantly
22. Median Family Income Up $6,000 since 1993
