The GOP Dog is Tossed a Big Bone
By Pat Racimora on May 1, 2008 at 4:37 PM in Barack Obama, Republicans, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., Tony Rezko
I watched clips of “Crazy Uncle Jeremiah” doing his same old tricks at the National Press Club. Soon enough, Senator Obama tossed him into the cold after pledging not long ago that he could no more renounce Rev. Wright than he could turn his back on the Black community. An image popped right into my head. I just had to let this dog out!

Susan’s Note: Aren’t Pat’s cartoons great?
To her note, I’ll add this additional snippet from the media today:
“Rev. Wright’s honorary degree canceled by Northwestern“
May 1 (Bloomberg) — Northwestern University withdrew an invitation for the Reverend Jeremiah Wright to receive an honorary degree at this year’s commencement.
Wright, former pastor to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, was selected to be honored at the June ceremony in Evanston, Illinois, on the recommendation of faculty committees, Alan Cubbage, vice president for university relations, said in a statement.
“In light of the controversy around Dr. Wright and to ensure the celebratory character of commencement not be affected, the university has withdrawn its invitation to Dr. Wright,” Cubbage said. …

Watch the dominos fall….Good Post….
OT : NPR All Things Considered just did a story on ILLEGAL VOTER SUPPRESSION IN NC. BY CAMP OBAMA SUPPORT GROUP USING ROBO CALLS AIMED AT AA WOMEN….Check it out
Thanks for that heads-up, WCA. I couldn’t find what you’re talking about, but I did find this:
Reid: Let Primaries Run Before Deciding Nominee
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada says Democratic superdelegates should pick the presidential nominee they want, regardless of the delegate count so far. Getty Images
Morning Edition, May 1, 2008 · There’s no rush to decide the Democratic presidential nomination, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says. The Nevada Democrat, a superdelegate and party leader, also notes that he’s not siding with either Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama just yet.
“I’m going to be very patient,” Reid tells Steve Inskeep in an interview to discuss his new memoir, The Good Fight. “The primaries are not over with yet. I think that shortly after the primaries are ended, there will be people like me making a decision.”
Should he and other superdelegates side with the majority of the other delegates who have pledged to candidates?
“I think superdelegates have the opportunity, the ability and the right to vote for whoever they want, and I think that’s what they should do,” Reid says.
He says former President Bill Clinton recently called to try to persuade him to back Hillary Clinton. But Reid says people shouldn’t read too much into that.
“Well, everybody should understand Barack Obama’s called me a few times, too,” he says with a chuckle.

I’ll look a little more later.
Excellent Tru…..Thanks….I’m in Texas and All Things Considered is on ight now….Show repeats the stories and you can get them over the net or on the local public radio…I’ll listen again to try to get more details.
The Group has done this before in other states but now it looks like the NORTH CAROLINA ATTORNEY GENERAL IS OPENING AN INVESTIGATION….
I’ll try to keep up….You guys are much better and quiker than me…
( sentiment offered with deep respect for you folksa at NQ )
I grew up in Nevada and wrote a letter to Harry Reid a few months ago, asking him to remain neutral in the nomination, asking him not to demand that Hillary drop out and to allow the Superdelegates to make their decision after all the primaries were over. I’d like to think that letter writing works. I always liked Senator Reid when I lived in Nevada and I hope that he keeps his word.
I think he’s leaning Clinton…..Lately….
Fingers crossed…
Reid was on Morning Edition on NPR this A.M. I got the feeling he’s the anti-Pelosi in the primary, as did the NPR reporter.
He was quite clear that both candidates should stay in the race, and that the SDs didn’t need to start choosing until after then.
Did NPR actually link the robo calls to Obama’s campaign? Is there proof for that?
Reason I ask is there is a story in today’s Common Dreams Newsletter titled, “DC Nonprofit With Possible Clinton Ties Behind Deceptive NC Robo-Calls.” It is written by Chris Kromm with the Institute for Southern Studies.
Very Interesting.
That’s what I’m trying to find out…I had heard that there were former ties through former members of the group to Clinton in the past. Still waiting to hear the story again. The Raleigh NC observer states that the group apologized.
With Obama, and Clinton, this is often the case, from David Wilhelm, to the third string that advises Clinton.
So, it doesn’t mean anything, really, unless it specifically came from her camp.
You know, I was thinking today, Obama’s group seems to be trying to set up a gotcha!, as if Clinton’s camp wouldn’t recognize the pattern.
What is it with those people, that uncreative, untalented, or that desperate?
Or that dumb…?
Third string that advises Obama, but you knew that…
Too tired, been a long day, time to rest…
Well I checked out the AP….North Carolina papers….All they list is the name of the group and I must have caught the last installment on the story….So I’ll have to wait till later to ge the transcript…..I coulda sworn I heard….( voice trail off )
I think it was obama driven personally…
Read this (warning huff po)

Thanks for that….Sometimes the red herrings fly by so fast.
It’s a very weird story…
Nice cartoon, and ooooo, baby, that’s some hot news. I’ll pass it around to a couple dozen news outlets, if you don’t mind!
I think Pat Racimora would appreciate that–Cartoons have a way of telling long stories a little easier and a lot faster.
Nicceeeee doggy. waggy waggy tail. my dog LOVES fresh bone.! thanks pat.
Wright/Obama is turning to be a very ugly family feud.
Oh my my the pundits are spinning this as it’s TOO LATE for HILLARY and BO has the nomination.
Nothing else matter. It’s too little too late
SCREW THAT!!!
The great cartoon is right on target. Republicans have been pretending they aren’t pleased as they can be with the Obama/Wright famiy fued. As they try to downplay its importance with tongue in cheek, quietly chanting the mantra “let us at him, this will be easy,” ole Andrew foolishly switches his support from Hillary to Obama. As they say “birds of a feather etc.”
Time is not Barky’s friend. The more they learn, the biggerf loser he is. Therefore we must shut down this silly democracy and get him nominated. It’s gone on too long, all those stupid voters wanting to vote, what nerve! One of them has to go. Let’s toss the broad, it’s what we are used to doing.
We women. We Remember. And We Vote.
You are absolutely right. I would like to add “Hell have no fury like a woman scorned”.
btw, via rezko trial, Mr Ata just testified that he gave IL Guv 25K while Rezko was sitting right there in the guv’s kitchen. Remember Fitz mentiond both men, the Guv and obama in the indictment of Rezko. It appears that Fitz is getting closer to the Guv and can obama be far behind ?
Oooooohhhhh…………..JUICY……….
SHAPIN UP TO BE A FINE MONTH FOR SEN. CLINTON…….
Sorry I screwed up. it happened at Rezko’s office.
Here is the linky
http://blogs.suntimes.com/rezko/2008/05/rezko_trial_ata_takes_the_stan.html
Yes, the mole John Thomas said Obama visitied Rezko just as often as Wright.
No matter how they try to spin it, the truth will come out.
I mean, anything Obama has done, they have on tape.
And reading some accounts from Rezko’s trial, it appears Rezko may have still conducted business, knowing he was under investigation, thinking magically, Fitz would be fired by Rove, via the President.
“If only, if only…”
Blago, actually, though he was as close to Rezko, as he was to Wright.
Maybe closer.
Didn’t Thomas say Obama visited Rezko at least once a day?
DNC tosses the nomination bone to Obama they’ll find out just what a bunch of really outraged voters can and will do. We are woman, hear us roar! (Sorry got a little carried away.:))
And do ya think if the Reverend doesn’t get his Honorary Degree that big fat ego of his might haul his disgruntled butt in front of some more microphones?
Oh wait, I’m sorry, the Obamans say this story is all over now. From what I can see it’s all over all right. All over the front pages, all over the news, all over…
Yes I saw Machete Michelle on CNN last night dodging the Wright issue, always pretending that it is taking away from the important national topics. Her husband is running for the most important office in the land and she can’t be honest about her feelings/attitudes towards Wright? As if it is none of our business?
I DON’T THINK SO MICHELLE! Not so fast girl! It IS absolutely pertinent to the American people. We MUST know what kind of person is going to have his finger on the button honey.
What a con artist that woman is and it is so obvious!
She looks like the cat that ate the mouse, but still looks ravenous.
I’m basking in the ironic glow of it all…
Ain’t that an understatement.
Drats, I was looking forward to the increase in value of my popcorn futures if we were to be treated to the spectacle of that event!
NPR All Things Considered is doing a story on Wright in which they interview other AA clergy who insist that Wright is not representative of maintream AA churches…..It’s on currently via the net or public radio…..
Think it confirms a split in the community….
Someone plug the dikes !
Good, now they can thank Obama for dividing their community. You know, poor Wright — he had his own gig, did his thing, had a faithful patronage and then comes Obama (helps him get some credibility )and now everything has gone haywire — what a nice way to thank your benefactor. I don’t think Wright deserves this — he has his freedom of speech and he can do whatever.
Nobody in the media is going after the real culprit here — it is Obama! He is the one to be held accountable for his judgment and he is the one answerable to the American voter. Leave Wright and his church alone!
All the engineer’s in Holland couldn’t stop this damn from breaking free. The Obama campaign will soon find itself under sea level.
Hey too bad Hamas isn’t a superdelegate vote. I know they endorse him. Lots of interesting middle easterers endorse him. Some even bundle money for him. Anyways, Hamas just announced today, on the day the Jews honor the six million dead, that the holocaust was engineered by Jewish leaders to get rid of their weak Jews.
And if they could blame Hillary, too, I’m sure they would.
Bishop Harry Jackson says thathe was shocked that Wright violated his pastoral obligation y revealing private conversations with Obama. He says Wrigt intentionally torpedoed Obama’s campaign……Called Wright a Judas.
NPR : All things Considered
I think we have not heard the last from Rev. Wright.
Bishop Jackson seems like a straight shooter.
Jacksonalso confirmd that about 25% of AA churches have what he called liberationist links……He says Wright is not main stream.
They also interviewed other preachers like Wright………Hmmm…….
Check it out.
It is good that people are standing up to extremism for sure. I never thought Wright would turn on his protege but I am beginning to understand why. I’m much less inclined to believe this whole thing was orchestrated. Its just a disaster, plain and simple, stemming from two people who betrayed each other. Obama should have stuck with his friend, mentor and pastor. At least Obama would have some dignity left. Now he has no friend and his campaign is in shreds.
Pat, you captured the moment, and it will last a long time if the Dems are so stupid to put up Obama as the nominee. That Dog has many other bones to chew regarding Obama. The pack of Dogs will eat him up. Keep at it Pat. Your cartoons are great.
Rezko’s bone is much bigger. It will bring down the Gov. and Obama before it is all over. Follow the trial at http://www.chicagotribune.com and http://www.suntimes.com
The Rezko “gift” may not even be ripe for the pickin’ until AFTER the Democratic nomination. So if we get stuck with Obambi-lamb as our candidate, we’re screwed!
But from the shape of it, this Rezko thing also extends to the republican party, even the White House.
And the goal is to clean up the filth, period.
Yeah, it’s my feeling Obama is about to step into another huge pile of crap, unbeknown to him.
They never learn…
I was checking some online paper from NC. And they are talking about the robo calls.. And you know who is getting blamed for this ? And it not him.
Today I bought my last copy ever of The Washington Post, the reading of which has been a part of my daily ritual for the last quarter century.
For the last several months, the Post’s obvious anti-Hillary slant in news coverage, editorials and op-eds were really beginning to grate, but here’s why today’s paper was the lead brick which broke the camel’s back:
1. On the front page, the Post attacks Hillary’s gas-price reducing plan. It’s not until the fifth paragraph, on page A6, that the Post mentions that Hillary also called for a windfall profits tax to pay for the plan.
2. The same story quotes an environmentalist who says that Hillary’s plan could damage the environment because- get this- if it succeeded in reducing prices, consumption of gasoline would rise!
You can’t make this shit up. Not mentioned of course is that ANY plan that reduces the cost of gas could be accused of doing exactly the same thing..
3. An EDITORIAL praises Obama’s “courage” for trashing Hillary’s gas plan and not offering one of his own. Again- you can’t this stuff up.
4. Finally- the front page of the Style section says “here’s a cliche that needs to be thrown under the bus”- naturally, its the “thrown under the bus” cliche. Not the “Hillary is polarizing” cliche, which I believe has been around for a BIT longer. No, we are told that the public is sick to death of THAT cliche, which coincidentally is only aimed at Obama.
So– I have no local paper anymore. Sad, really, but it will save me $4.00 a week.
You have this blog now, a very nice consolation prize indeed.
Maybe when you unsubscribe, you can tell them that you’ll be donating that extra $16 a month to Hillary!
I stopped reading the LA Times, my local paper, for the same reasons. Two days after the Pennsylvania primary, there were 3 stories about Obama and none about Hillary…one about him bowling, one about him eating greasy diner food with the common folk and one about someone who met Obama or something. I felt like Obama’s publicist was the new editor of the paper.
First thing in the morning, I grab my cup of coffee and bowl of cereal, turn on my computer and come to NoQuarter. Welcome home.
Obama messes up in the debate and its Hillary’s fault.
Reverend Wright opens his mouth and it s Hillary’s fault.
Hillary has the power to make men say things that make them look like fools.
You know, Obama brough his daughters to that man’s church. This is a guy who discussed Right Brain and Left Brain and literally is telling all African Americans that their lot in life is to be good at rap but bad at math. Incredibly damaging if not damning. What an insult to all the AA professionals we have all known and worked with.
I’m sure that’s news to Michael Nutter, Maya Angelou, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, NY Governor David Paterson, Tavis Smiley and the list goes on…
But don’t you know?? It’s Hillary’s fault.
Great cartoon, Pat. I can even envision a whole jar of doggie treats for the GOP if we foolishly make O the nominee. Just as in your Rove Sweets cartoon, that GOP bulldog will be drooling over a variety of flavors. Seriously, though, its a sad vision. We all know how they will make mincemeat out of him and his “judgements”.
The supers coming out at this late date to prop up Obama must be insane….
Joe Andrew and Jeff Bingaman should be ashamed of themselves, particularly Bingaman who forgets who NM voted for in the primary (Hillary)…
More on both…

Re: Joe Andrew–a Few Quick Questions
Profile on Senator Jeff Bingaman, Latest on the List of the Obama Diversion Team…
pat, have you seen the newest project on hillary’s website? “project t-shirt”: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/action/tshirt/?sc=8. you should submit an entry!
Pat, your cartoons are great! They send a powerful message about the electability of Obama given all that has come to light and which is so well illustrated in Obama’s Candy Store. I just hope these cartoons and the compelling messages they send reach the superdelegates. The history of his associations with disreputable characters makes one wonder what else lurks below the surface that hasn’t yet come to light. Do we really know who this man is? Is the public being blindsided by a person whose history doesn’t match his words? Wake up, America. I keep thinking of the saying, “There is none so blind as those who will not see.” And “A person conviced against his will is of the same opinion still.” Thanks to NoQuarter, at least some of the public is offered an opportunity to open their eyes.
Hey Pat- i got the rhyme finished and it’s up at my blog- you are such an inspiration
verse 10
This old man, he played ten, Obama’s campaign has to END!
With a knick-knack paddy whack give a dog a bone, send Obama slinking home!
