Barack Obama may have been eight years old when William “Billy” Ayers was planting bombs at the State Department and the U.S. Capitol, but the Senator was a grown man working in the employ of Mr. Ayers when this picture appeared in August 2001.
Bill Ayers was busy promoting his book and this was one of the promotional photos. Two of the money quotes from a book published in 2003,

And then a month later told a New York Times reporter his only regret was that he did not plant more bombs. So what does this have to do with Barack Obama?
Plenty! Barack was the Chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Foundation. Bill Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist with wealthy family connections, had co-founded the Chicago Foundation and named Obama as the Chairman of said entity. So by 2001 Barack and Ayers had worked closely together on an effort to reform Chicago public schools. I am all in favor of school reform. But if you are involved with politics you ought to understand that if you hang with, work with, and politic with a guy who is an unrepentant terrorist that it might reflect badly on you. In fact, you should put some distance between yourself and said terrorist.
Barack did not. What is curious is that Barack despite facing criticism about his lack of experience, is closed mouthed when it comes to discussing his stint running a $50 million dollar foundation. What is he hiding? That is a question that will be answered before the November presidential election. The only doubt is whether the Democrats will insist on finding out the truth first or will let the Republicans serve them a steaming pile of crap come the fall. And while the image of Bill Ayers gleefully stomping the American flag makes the rounds, Obama’s vain attempt to portray himself as a new kind of non-politician will be stomped into oblivion.

Man, when I was in college and I was cool, I had a copy of Mao’s little red book.

Out of them all, only anarchy — in its purest form — ever appealed to me. Someday, I need to read a good book about the anarchic period in Spain. Would love to know more about that history. Of course, as Orwell pointed out, there were no “good guys” in all of that.

Susan, when you have the time, try reading Anthony Beevor’s The Battle for Spain, published, I believe in the 80’s…a fascinating history of the Spanish Civil War and good background for anyone who enjoyed “Pan’s Labrynth”.
Larry, as for Billy Ayers, I think he would have been better served living in Northern Ireland during The Troubles..hell, even the IRA (with a few notable exceptions) called-in their bomb warnings!
Agree and although I do not in any way support terrorism of any kind,

I mentioned this before, as a kid, my friends and I would hang out with a group of engineering and physics students.
And it was this group that was “recruited” by this guy, a “communist,” a small guy, with glasses, who also attended the University of Illinois, at Chicago, where Ayers teaches, and where my friend went to school.
Even as a kid, we knew those people were delusional, just unrealistic in their projections, in their understanding of Americans, and this guy WAS an American. But we went to listen to him anyway, at someones apartment, just to hear what he had to say. When we got there, he checked to see if the cops had followed us(!), his faithful crew of two sitting by his feet. One girl, just completely deranged, ideologically, for lack of a better word, almost seemed besotted, just glad for the validation this guy gave to her, he being the head commie, I suppose. He treated her like a second class citizen, the dysfunction SO obvious.
The only thing I remember about the meeting was arguing with him he had no understanding of blue collar Americans, (the base he was hoping to lead to revolution, and he didn’t), and a cracked porcelain tea cup, sitting on a TV tray atop a lace doily.
I read about Ayers, here, and I think how far from reality can this guy be, to speak and think like this?

I think Ursula LeGuin (oh hell, maybe it was Doris Lessing.. or even somebody else) wrote a book trying to create an anarchist society. I think i remembered they had to go through a lot of contortions to do it– and obviously I didn’t find it highly memorable. But still, it was an interesting excercise by the writer. And the people in it were not prone to violence.

Savage then went on to talk about his “communist-marxist” ties and was livid. (Well, he goes livid pretty often.)

Yeah, I knew a guy who also went to prison, rather than Vietnam, he was a conscientious objector, but he paid the price, he didn’t run, accepting the consequences of his actions.
Another childhood hero of mine, again, moral courage, he did what he thought was morally right, but he took responsibility for his actions, blaming no one.
He and my sister were part of a volunteer group living together in a Chicago apartment building, ministering to the poverty stricken elderly during the seventies, all young men and women, most college graduates working to make our culture a little better. I was a young kid, I tagged along, too, but they made me work, serving meals, cleaning houses, learning to cook, the usual…
I guess they were the flip side to people like Ayers and Dorhn, come to think about it.

I’ve noticed people spirits get down when there are bumps in the campaign, but I’ve learned recently that’s OK — we get over the bumps and move forward. Hillary has some amazing people on the ground in Indiana and North Carolina and I feel very positive for her! What the pro-Obama folks do on the Internet in my view will have little impact at this time, but that’s OK as it keeps them occupied and is not doing anything really meaningful to help Obama anyway.
In the last few days the attacks from the Obama supporters here have ground down almost to a halt. I am not sure if this trend will continue. The reason I bring this up is prior to the fall-off of attacks, I wrote an open letter to No Quarter. My mindset was affected by the events here at the time. Well anyway, I think people could use a morale boost so here it is:

I used to be one of the huddled masses of Hillary supporters being spoon-fed propaganda that my savior Obama had arrived. I would watch the MSM “news” channels and was told why Hillary should drop out of the race even though she was winning where it counted if we are choosing who should run against McCain. Yes these are all opinions as is the rest of this letter.
I was depressed to the point of wanting to give up. Then I found No Quarter. Thank god for No Quarter!
I soon realized all was not so dismal as I saw the tireless efforts of the pro-Hillary bloggers and I found major inspiration to carry on. I even find inspiration from the pro-Obama people when I saw the skill in which they are handled by the pro-Hillary folks. I have been participating in the dialogue for a short time and my spirits are soaring!
I’ve read in the past that pro-Obama bloggers were kicking the Hillary supporters when her candidacy was struggling. The problem with kicking someone when they are down is when they do finally get up they are many times stronger than before the kicking began. Something to think about.
I am hoping some of what us pro-Hillary people are saying is beginning to sink in to the pro-Obama people that frequent No Quarter on a regular basis. If/when our words do sink in I hope the pro-Hillary folks on No Quarter will extend their hands in friendship and solidarity to the more reasonable of the Obama supporters. If our thoughts never sink in that is beyond our control of course.
All of the good qualities Obama supporters see in him are in Hillary and then some. I think they will warm up to Hillary given time assuming Obama himself guides them to do so. Hillary believes in redemption so I urge her supporters to as well in their behavior towards the Obama supporters. It is troubling to me I have not seen Obama say he will campaign for Hillary if he loses. If he has said he would help her please by all means let me know.
I think many Obama supporters are beginning to see the writing on the wall as the Wright PR campaign sinks Obama’s candidacy. Even Chris Matthews is hedging as I recall he recently stated Wright is Obama’s “Iraq.”
If I am wrong and Obama gets the nomination out of conscience and wanting to protect my family and community I would have to break away from voting for a Democrat or I would write in Hillary. My decision would not be based on bitterness and disappointment but on logic. I hope everyone makes their decision based on logic and not anger and other negative emotions.
I hope what I have written will serve to offer a future at No Quarter where previously bitter foes can at least start to be a bit more civil towards one another.
For now I expect people to continue in the seemingly endless verbal fist-to-cuffs. Seemingly endless because soon someone will drop out of the race.
There is no shame in being mistaken about something you previously believed in. This is one way in which one’s character grows. If you are an Obama supporter and want to join us Hillary folks sooner as opposed to later I am sure we won’t turn you away. Maybe at least hedge your bets a little and try to be less combative? I’ll try on my end to listen better if you do so.
By the way Obama supporters please feel free to try and convince me I am mistaken in my beliefs. And since no one has a crystal ball we’ll just have to wait and see who is right in the end.
