Indiana & N.C. Results Thread

HILLARY has won Indiana, declares CBS News.
42% of precincts reporting– Clinton 56%, Obama 44%
_____________________________

PhotobucketMAY I RECOMMEND that you watch FOX NEWS? I don’t think a single one of us should give MSNBC ANY rating numbers. Besides, Fox News does a great job, and Karl Rove’s analyses are quite fascinating since he knows the country so well.

INDIANA = 72 delegates
NO. CAROLINA = 115 delegates

Photobucket(via Wikipedia)

AHA! UPPITY WOMAN stole my HOPE BONG a couple weeks ago.

I just stole it back. Pass it around, everyone! Give your Obamabot pals an extra hit!

Early results via Drudge for Indiana (hate to admit it, but he’s pretty fast at getting results up):

IN [2% PRECINCTS]
CLINTON 20,237 61%
OBAMA 12,935 39%

(It’s too hard to keep updating this so let’s all report results in the comments.)

(NORTH CAROLINA doesn’t sound good - perhaps double digits — I’ll never get it, but that’s just me. People voting against their own best interests, just to make themselves FEEL good.)

From exit info from A.P.:

The economy was on voters’ minds in Democratic primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. Two-thirds of Democratic primary voters in Indiana and nearly as many in North Carolina said the economy is the most important issue facing the nation. That’s more than have said so in 28 previous competitive Democratic primaries with exit polls this year.

Only about one in five in each state said Iraq was the top issue, and even fewer picked health care from a list of three issues.

Four in 10 Indiana Democratic voters said the current recession or economic slowdown has affected their family a great deal. Nearly as many said that in North Carolina.

CROSSOVER VOTING

Indiana’s Democratic primary was open to all voters. About one in five said they were independents and one in 10 identified themselves as Republican. North Carolina’s Democratic primary was open only to voters registered Democratic or unaffiliated; nearly one in five voters in that contest called themselves independents.

DEMOGRAPHICS:

The exit poll estimated blacks made up about a third of voters in the North Carolina Democratic primary, about one in seven in Indiana. More than half of voters in both states were women, which is typical for Democratic primaries.

It’s going to be an interesting night.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-05-06 17:48:08

I hope so. I shouldn’t have looked at the headlines at Memeorandum.com and Drudge.

If it’s true, I’m going to need a wall to bang my head against.

If all I’m capable of is looking at my arm, seeing the color of my skin, and voting accordingly, I am not worth much. Imho.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 17:54:59

It’s the African American vote, though, no more.

Remember in 1980,when John Anderson ran as an independent, or even Ross Perot?

That’s what the AA vote has become to Obama, nothing more, NOT decisive.

And you’re right, it is too bad, but it is marginal, IMO, he’s going nowhere.

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-05-06 17:56:26

I think she will take both IN. and NC……That’s just how I see it….Goin to Mass to light a candle for Clinton…..

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-06 18:04:23

Nope she’s gonna lose NC (sadly)
They are saying BO got 90 percent of the black vote in the early exit polls

I just hope she doesn’t lose by more than 10 pts. My daughter just left with 3 friends 2 just voted for BO (white 20 something women), the other isn’t bothering (also white), MY daughter for Hillary (and she’s half Asian half Euromutt) Me being the mutt. LOL :-/

grrrrrrrrrrr

Susan, you, more than anyone, has revitalized my interest and involvement in political action, and I’m not even american. Don’t bang your head. You have done everthing that could be done and I’ve no doubt you will continue to fight. Well done, you are an inspiration, even to a 60 year old in another land. Keep on trucking! THANK YOU!

It’s ALL Hillary. I haven’t been so motivated in a very long time for a candidate.

Usually, the MORE i get to know a candidate, the less enamored I am with them. With Hillary, it’s just the opposite…. the more I learn about her qualities, her brains, her knowledge, her grit, her energy, her never give up gusto, the more I SUPPORT HER. It’s amazing.

Susan-
Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication!

A few questions…
Why haven’t they called Indiana? Hillary has had a substantial lead. North Carolina is CALLED for Little Lord Obama and there are NO #’s reported? Grrrrrrrr…

Also, WTF does THIS mean?

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/us/politics/04indiana.html?hp=&pagewanted=print

Are you kidding me? A school district is BUSSING kids to polling places for early voting? Unfrickingbelievable.

Comment by fooj | 2008-05-06 18:46:29

Sorry. Forgot to post part of the NY Times article:

Four hours north in Gary, a predominantly black city of 100,000, a vastly different debate has been simmering in the days before the primary on Tuesday: a Clinton supporter has questioned the school system’s decision to bus high school seniors to the county courthouse for early voting, field trips that some said looked like a way to try to produce higher numbers for Mr. Obama.

WTF?

Ignore the propaganda for sure. What time do the polls close? I won’t turn on Fox News until then. MSNBC (Make Sure No Body Clueful) I won’t watch as they will instantly start talking about how Hillary can’t get the nomination blah blah blah.

We know the truth, Hillary has to lobby the SD’s and we can help her convince them they have to stand up to Obama and his thugs. Our nation as we know it is in peril if we don’t stop Obama now, not later.

Click my name/handle for some ideas.

Hillary is going to pull this off, but we can’t be afraid to go tooth and nail by all legal means available to help her. Fuck fear, its being used by Obama and we’ve added in our own fears and I think its holding us back from victory.

We will defeat this devil.

The MSM — ignore them for the duration.

Work towards helping Hillary by donating time, energy and funds if you can. And above all else stay positive.

The game plan is to lobby the SD’s. All the bullshit on TV is a diversion to sap your energy and keep your morale down. I’m only watching the tube tonight to see Hillary give her acceptance speech. Look for her to mention the “tiebreaker” as I did in the post if you click on my name/handle. Terry M. already mentioned it this eve.

To add, should Clinton get the nomination, I’d rather reach into the republican base, hoping they, too, could start voting their own self interests, as opposed to a tired, empty ideology, that has betrayed them, also.

It’s not only the AA voter, it’s the knee jerk republican voter, too.

Comment by Mary | 2008-05-06 18:09:04

Actually, Fox News reporting that Clinton is winning the crossover Republicans at 52%.

You can bet your bottom dollar that’s Republican WOMEN voting on her behalf.

Same thing happened in Pennsylvania.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 18:18:51

I hope, it’s not only the AA’s who are voting against their self interests, it’s the republicans, too.

When I hear of them crossing over to vote for that insipid piece of crap, I have to wonder how they think they’re helping.

Don’t they too see the problems this country faces?

If they think McCain is legitimatley more qualified, Ok, that’s their choice (as long as he isn’t a blatant traitor, to me, Obama is, dealing with the group he does) but to just vote for him simply because he is Republican, without examining his qualifications, given what the country faces, is just as insipid as the AA’s voting for Obama because he’s half black.

Spike Lee, meet Rush Limbaugh, or Spike Lee IS Rush Limbaugh…

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-05-06 18:17:56

We know that we cannot - EVER — count on the far left. And it is folly to ever align with them. If by some miracle, Obama were to become president, the far left would turn on him in a heartbeat because he could NEVER live up to their impossible demands.

The far left is as bad as the far right. And they poison politics.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-06 18:22:01

The far left IS the far right, just the flip side of the whackjob coin. They can’t make it in their own party. God knows they tried. So every decade or so, they try to hijack ours. And then we show them who their daddy is in November.

Comment by alexei | 2008-05-06 18:25:06

LOL! We need to say “who’s your Daddy” in this Primary. Any way, they are ineffectual - if the AAs wouldn’t be such a monolithic block - Hillary would have won a long time ago.

Comment by Talktruth | 2008-05-06 18:55:57

How about “Who’s your Mommy?” :-)

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 18:59:11

if the AAs wouldn’t be such a monolithic block -

In reality, they aren’t, women are, and the democratic “elite” are missing the point, again.

The greater trends are Hillary winning the big states, the arguments Larry and others here have made, and the Democrats should be supporting her, if they were serious about winning.

Why they’re focusing on this small contingent of AA voters is beyond me, but the decision making of Dean no longer surprises me, he’s no better than Michael Brown, when it comes to efficacy, and recognizing the pertinent factors that will decide this election.

Dean can’t win an election, and Cheney can’t win a war, and they’re both the same, really.

One plus one equal two is a conundrum for some, I guess.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-06 19:15:44

Women and seniors are a HUGE block.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 19:19:25

Yeah, I wonder why Howard Dean doesn’t see them?

Because they contradict him, and he can’t have that?

Comment by workingclass artist | 2008-05-06 19:23:33

Because the only thing Coward Dean notices aside from a mirror is a TV camera….No ?

Comment by bert | 2008-05-06 20:03:08

Black Americans make up about 13% of all Americans. It is not a large enough base to won a general.

Comment by bert | 2008-05-06 20:12:07

A couple of times this primary season I have felt like just giving up and letting this young generation have their McGovern and get it out of their system. BUT after eight years of Bush and the neocons and the assault on our democracy and Constitution we NEED a Democrat in the White House to begin to restore and undo what Bush and Co. has wrought.

McCain was giving a speech some where today about appointment of judges, especially Supremes and that reminded me of why we need Hillary, so I will keep on keeping on.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-05-06 20:46:01

It’s a circle the far right and the far left meet in THEIR middle. They have a different reality. We’ve seen a dramatic example in the Big Orange Satan evolving into the FREEPER hate website.

Nothing like watching the theory of political science come alive in real time!

Comment by Gabriele Droz | 2008-05-06 19:29:07

Susan,

I’ve always identified myself with the far left, but even I’ve got brains (they tend to develop with age), and as much as I hate to say this, I completely agree with you. I will always have far left goals, but I have learned that they are achieved though diligence, perseverance, hard work, patience, and long-term commitment.

The alternative is a revolution (violent and ugly). America is in no way ready to do this right now, so the only alternative is to find the person most able to do the first.

Yes, rapid change would be better, but I cannot possibly understand HOW Obama could bring it about.

I remain a far-left idealist, probably for the rest of my life, but I still have a brain, and Hillary is the only one that has a chance to begin changing the course of the Titanic, and averting the disaster looming ahead.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-06 18:24:22

The Republicans were hampered because they were hijacked by the Far Right. See what happens when you let Off-the-cliff people hijack? Extremism is the path to destruction. That goes for BOTH sides.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 19:12:43

The republican rank and file, oh, hell even the “generals” of the party, buy into the same level of PR the AA’s do, what was that old saw about Hollywood stars believing their own publicity?

They really think the lies they spew are true.

The race-baiting plus fear-mongering has come from Obama. He has been blaming Hillary for what he is doing himself. In the next release of Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary under the word “asshole” will be the defination: “Obama.”

Ironically, Obama has used fear of riots if he is not nominated and we’ve wised up to this horrific tactic: Now, America fears Obama.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 18:21:59

Now, America fears Obama.

No, it doesn’t, America is laughing at Obama.

But if needs to see himself as dangerous, well, more power to him, he’s self deluded, though, and that can bite…

Obama by 3 points in North Carolina.

No matter who runs, I will keep digging out the corruption, via Rezko, and the Chicago papers, et al.

In the end, it’s less about the candidate, and more about restoring our government.

I dont find McCain suitable, and I will not vote for him.

And if he’s corrupt, I think you have to stay on his ass, like a good newspaper man.

I guess more of that Royko thing rubbed off on me than I thought, growing up.

JOHN KERRY SHOULD BE IMPEACHED.
He is hate mongering to Olbermann that the only reason HRC is winning in IN is because Limbaugh told Republicans to run vote for her.
His voice was so full of bitterness and outrage, I switched channels.

This is just what the democratic party does not need. Olbermann and Daily Kos have been ripping the democratic party in half.

A U.S. senator who uses our primary to settle his own personal vendetta (angry at Clinton for not bailing him out for his moronic comment about our troops last year, blaming John Edwards for “costing him the presidency”)
This man is not a senator. He is as loony as Jeramiah Wright.

Hey Kerry-

Doesn’t seem to bother you when the Repubs vote for Obama, does it? Fucking piece of shit.

The only person who cost Kerry the presidency was John Kerry. Fucking coward ran to Europe instead of honoring his promise to the Democratic voters (of which he collected a shitload of cash) to count EVERY VOTE. He sickens me. Hell, he bailed on us before all of the totals were even reported. Asshole.

He never fought the Swiftboaters, either. Guess winning the presidency didn’t matter then. NOW? Oh my. Kerry is a fucking traitor to his constituency. Kennedy isn’t much better. I hope Mass. voters vote BOTH their skanky asses OUT. Who needs enemies when you’ve got friends like these?

Funny how Kennedy was behind 1000 delegates and he still took his bullshit to the floor of the convention. My. My. How times have changed. He sure seems be be singing a different tune re: delegates.

Think Rove, and the typical Republican voter, the typical republican election.

Just like the AA voter, Obama, and the media.

Rove Republicans, like the AA voter, have to learn to vote competency and issues, instead of political ads…

Comment by fooj | 2008-05-06 19:19:00

No kidding. And they PROJECT that Hillary is the candidate that uses “Rovian” tactics.

It’s all about PROJECTION. Hell, haven’t we lived through 7+ years of stinking projection? I can’t believe these rat bastards are continuing to get away with this crap.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 19:34:28

Yeah, and the funny thing is they project their own weaknesses onto their enemies, and fears, but being the good little narcissists they are, it never occurred to them a world exists outside of themselves, that is capable of manipulating …narcissists.

It never occurred to them narcissism is a weakness, a fatal flaw, they knew it all…

So they fight themselves.

Idiots, I tell ya…

Interesting how Huff Ho and all MSM called NC for Little Lord Obama IMMEDIATELY.

Also interesting how C-span 2 has the SAME #’s that CNN has for Indiana… Clinton 57- Obama 43.

Hmmmm…

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-05-06 19:00:04

Look at John Lewis, the pressure he was under to switch to Obama. He was shaken - said it was more pressure than he’d faced in Civil Rights movement.

Very possible. Especially with electioneering going on, so many violated the 50 foot rule.

It won’t help Barack in the fall when very many of the swing states have very low numbers of AAs whose votes will not make up for his loss to McCain among white voters. So if AAs vote 90 plus for Democratic candidates no matter what and we still don’t win states like NC and SC, why is this going to help him so extraordinarily now? It’s asinine.

They’re living in a FANTASY world. Obama hasn’t got a prayer against McCain. Good god.

Then Detroit lulled them back into a false sense of security and started making guzzlers again. We did this ourselves but putting what was there behind us, when we shouldn’t have.

Americans don’t want to believe they’re subject to danger, just like the rest of the world, a large result of Reagan’s happy time cocktail hour.

Or maybe it was just a reflection of Reagan’s simplistic mind.

All the safe guards Regan removed have destroyed the traditional political process, I swear, once they saw the USSR coming apart, they just let everything go.

And I think they saw this as early as Carter’s administration, it just took 10 more years for the demolition of the USSR.

From CNN’s website:

linton was hoping for a big result in Indiana, where she was expected to win, and an upset victory in North Carolina — which also voted Tuesday — to flip the perception of a race that has remained close although Obama leads among pledged delegates, states won and overall votes.

Remember when Obama was ahead in Indiana, or w hen it wqs too close to call? Now Hillary was SUPPOSED to win Indiana all along! The goalposts moved again!

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 19:51:06

which also voted Tuesday — to flip the perception of a race that has remained close although Obama leads among pledged delegates, states won and overall votes.

This is simply not true, this perception was tweaked as part of a PR assault, by the bama’s team.

But see how they actually start to believe it?

If they wanted the truth, they would count FL and MI, look at the small states Obama won and consider their true relevance, look at the AA arm twisting and payoffs, republican crossovers and dirty money.

This is not a win, it’s a giant bribeathon, and it will fall apart. It’s as funny as Bush saying he had political collateral after the second election, when he announced he would try to steal social security for wall street. He thought he did!

oops!

Imagine making decisions based on this spurious garbage.

But imagine this is a general, making decision about Iraq, and wow, explains a lot, since that whole elite is so stupidly incestuous.

No wonder we can’t win a war.

Sad to say but I tend to view each of these primaries as a contest between Hillary and John McCain. A vote for Bambi = a vote for McCain in the general election because BO’s unelectable.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 19:54:00

The AA base is as reactionary as the republican base.

The point is to help us all see the truth about the issues, and Washington, who really is the most qualified, the least corrupt.

It’s not a football game.

Comment by Karen | 2008-05-06 19:28:40

I can’t deal with this anymore. I am staying up way too late and getting up way too early reading all of these blogs. I am an ardent Hillary-supporter. I’ve made phone calls and went to IN Sunday to canvas. I’ve donated more money than I can afford and will probably donate more. I went to IN, from Chicago, a few weeks ago to hear Hillary speak.

I can’t understand why anyone would support Obama. I first became upset as the results of NH came in and his supporters started denigrating Hillary’s win by claiming it was the result of the Bradley Effect. This race baiting enraged me. Within a week his campaign falsely accused both Clintons of racism. Those phony charges caused the AA vote to turn against Hillary. If Obama hadn’t been allowed to get away with such lies, she would be our nominee by now.

Instead Obama leads. I am another 57 yr. old white woman who will vote for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee. I went to college during the 60-70’s and endured the craziness of radicalism at my college. The Berrigan brothers-two priest that threw blood on draft records-were guest lecturers at my college. I saw the Black Panthers, with guns, board a bus carrying my teenage sister. I have always considered myself to be a liberal Democrat, but not a radical Democrat. Nothing could convince me to vote for Obama, whose friends include Ayers, Rezco, Wright, and so many others. If he is the Democratic nominee he will lose. I would rather see 4 years with McCain and a Democratic congress than 8 years of Obama. If Obama loses, McCain wins, it will be Hillary in ‘12.

I can’t believe our country has come to this. I can’t believe the Democratic Party has come to this. I can’t believe that I have to admit that I will register as an Independent if Hillary is not the nominee.

I still believe more stuff will come out about Obama and Hillary can still win this, so we need to stay strong for her. I will keep praying that she can do this, with our help.

The f**cking powers that be will AGAIN nominate / put in power a DANGEROUS, ARROGANT, SELF-SERVING ASS… They will never learn… Nixon, Regan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr… now Mccain? Obamassole? It will never matter if Hillary wins evrything left etc… Too much is being done to keep her out! If this country lets her get away, I will leave and disown it. I’ve had ENOUGH! Its just too disgusting! Damn ignorant clones! **SPIT**

Sorry to say it guys -but you are sounding desperate.

Need to be objective or else you will be laughed at.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 21:27:04

No, that’s simply your projection, we are really laughing our asses off at you, as we use your projections to troll you, and you’re too fucking stupid to get it, despite a cycle of losing you can’t break.

Try K**, though, they’re easy troll, some of the dumbest white boy you’ll ever see.

You’ll never win this way.

Oh, wait…

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 21:33:16

See, the republican/ko* type trolls arent smart, and they’re narcissistic.

They can’t recognize those of a higher intellect, because to do so would throw them into a narcissistic crisis, a rage.

So their personality disorder cripples them, they are caught in a Catch -22, they can never transcend their own limitations, allowing others to troll them, very easily.

You can’t transcend your limitations until you admit you have them, and recognize your opponent as superior.

They can’t do that, due to their narcissism.

Comment by Dave | 2008-05-06 21:57:41

Didn’t 8 years of George W. Bush demonizing our enemies teach us anything? People who don’t agree with your point of view aren’t stupid, or inferior, or narcissistic. They just don’t agree with you.

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-06 22:13:59

Dave, Obama is a traitor, really no more than a middle eastern op, so you’re either disingenuous, or stupid.

(Middle eastern ops have been known to murder innocent American citizens, and it looks like Obama has some connection to those people, making him a traitor).

And given the level of troll I see around here, I’m going with stupid.

If you don’t understand what I’m saying, or you think there is a way to troll this, well, you’re too dumb for me, son.

And you really are stupid, btw, the republicans are some of the dumbest heads I’ve ever gamed, or SEEN gamed.

And I KNOW it’s over your head, don’t bother, but, it isn’t the policy of the United States to support traitors.

HTH.

And you are narcissistic, your rage prohibits you from admitting it, it’s why you’re stupid.

It’s cute though the way you try so hard.

Shithead.

LOL

Wow. The first time I read through this interesting response, I thought you were doing an over-the-top impression of hateful, non-issue-specific blathering.

But it would seem as though these are your actual thoughts. Rather than try to take pot shots at you, as you have at me, I’m going to attempt to take the high road.

Do you honestly believe that Barack Obama is a “middle eastern op?” Could you perhaps provide some evidence for this claim?

And while you’re at it, could you quote anything I’ve said and explain to me how it fits the definition of rage?

Comment by fooj | 2008-05-07 01:31:12

Not another “high road” projection…

Comment by requiemforadancer | 2008-05-07 01:42:17

Wow.

I’m not interested in pretentious trolls, with the IQ of a watermelon.

The reality is Obama deals with Auchi, who deals with Qaddafi, who blew up a plane full of Americans.

At the very least, it is NOT acceptable to take money from this man, no matter who you are.

That you even think this is acceptable shows a level of stupidity or denial that should be no where NEAR a decision making process for this country.

Period.

If you wouldn’t want your kid around this type of traitor garbage, (and Obama betrays all Americans when he takes money from Auchi) then you have no right making decisions for other people’s kids.

Can you follow it, or is the moral paradigm still out of reach?

Your faux outrage is boring, you’re too slow intellectually, show me some brains, here, meat.

And yes, if he, or his supporters, help to facilitate the laundering of money, either to Palestine, or Pakistan, or worse, he would be classified a middle east op, and I would venture tracked as such. Rezko? Syria? Problem here?

What do you call people who dally with hamas, say, and Qadaffi, and god knws who else?

Other than Cheney acolytes and business partners?

What’s the story with Lake County and holding off the reporting of votes? The mayor of Gary, Indiana is a huge supporter of Obama’s and states that Obama would rack up huge number there to overtake Clinton.

Comment by Rhyta | 2008-05-06 23:27:12

First off, I cannot bring myself to ever watch FOX if they have Karl Rove on it, don’t legitimize that b**tard crook ever. MSNBC is gone from my viewing habits forever. CNN tries to be fair at least.

On the Gary vote counts, there are rumors circulating that this mayor made a prediction several weeks ago that Gary would give Indiana to Obama. Smells like Ohio in 04 to me…

Interesting read by Paul F. Villarreal AKA “Universal” AKA “RokSki”: Obama’s North Carolina victory undermines his chances
http://www.villarrealsports.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=494

So while North Carolina looks like an impressive win on its face for Obama, when you realize that he received over 90% of the African-American vote from a heavily African-American Democratic contingent in a state which will not be going Democratic in the fall because that heavily-black vote will not be enough to offset the white and non-white, non-African-American vote in November, the win becomes much less dramatic. Further tempering its applicability to the question of November electability is that if one wishes to only focus on Democratic voters during this primary season, Clinton is clearly ahead. So on either the question of general election viability or on the question of who a greater number of tallied Democratic voters support, Clinton is clearly ahead of Obama. North Carolina not only doesn’t change this reality, it actually reinforces it: Clinton has shown she can win the crucial swing states, she can win states that actually have the opportunity to go Democratic in November, and she has the backing of more Democrats than does Obama. This is the reality.

Ha! Mayor of Gary got caught with his pants down! Had to wait over 5 hours for the votes to come in from Lake County. The mayor from Hammond called him out. Votes magically appeared, even though they were supposed to be electronically counted with no wait time with Hillary squeaking by.

They stole the caucuses and they tried to steal IN.

Yep. Wait for the MSM to start digging. Those that don’t get shivers up their middle legs that is. But don’t hold your breath. Fact of the matter: nobody in the MSM gives a shit. About anything. Much less fairness and democracy. Screw it. Kids will be able to read about democracy in history books - published and used only in other countries.

The North Carolina and Indiana vote counts do not pass the SMELL test!!!!! The polls could not have been that far off! Check out what the polls were reflecting for the past few days(with the exception of Zogby who has been off the mark for the past six months)

You are correct. The results were rigged.

Comment by HillGirl | 2008-05-07 06:54:11

Do you think that they conveniently “forgot” to count votes?
Let’s say all is true - that all the votes (other than a few stragglers…) have been counted in IN. Is it possible that the counties where Hillary was going to, for sure, do good in were counted first only to show Obama’s leading gaining?
And, I still don’t get declaring Obama the winner in NC with 0% of the precincts counted. That is some BS there!

Comment by Kourian | 2008-05-07 05:30:21

Something’s wrong here. I went to bed with Hillary in a twelve point lead in Indiana with nearly half the votes counted. At the same time the major outlets were giving North Carolina to Barry despite no votes being counted. That was strange enough.

I wake up to find Barry’s won North Carolina by double digits? And closed in on Hillary to within two percent?

Whfffffffffffff!

What was that? Did somebody blow one?

No Basil - that’s the sound of graft. That’s the smell of election rigging. Of Barry’s boys coming over the border to vote in someone else’s election. That’s the smell of Repugs voting in Dem elections to keep Hillary away from the White House. That’s the smell of Obama black shirts hijacking democracy.

So can we do it over? Can we get the stench out of here?

It’s doubtful, Basil. Sorry.

Plucked out of the international press.

It’s three in the morning. Nine in the morning back home. Here’s the latest version of all the articles I’ve written last night. It took six hours until an ornery area in the northwest of Indiana returned their votes.

The final result in Indiana was too close a victory for Hillary Clinton. OK a win is a win but it wasn’t enough. And at the same time Obama won a crushing victory in North Carolina.

Tally: Hillary is in trouble.

The famous NBC journalist felt very confident about the situation.

‘We know who the Democrat nominee is going to be.’

And he added:

‘The Clintons have a big decision to make tomorrow.’

Dramatic. Hillary’s normal reaction is of course to just push ahead and in such case she’ll be around until June. But she’ll be under a lot of pressure from the leaders of the party. The superdelegates will be fleeing to Obama.

Hillary also has financial difficulties. It would seem she has to use her own money and how much will she dump into a campaign she’s doomed to lose? Should she continue - or not?

She has to work through all of this and give her answers today.

She can say what she wants but now she’s going to get the media against her.

Adam Nagourney writes in the New York Times: ‘Tuesday’s results did not improve her chances to get the Democrat nomination. Her chances to pass Obama have been further reduced’.

Chief CNN analyst David Gergen thinks it’s over for Hillary. But the moment when she gives up won’t come until June. And she’ll be ‘very loved’, he predicted surprisingly.

Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein who wrote a book about Hillary:

‘She needed to show the superdelegates she had momentum. It didn’t turn out that way. The only way Obama can be stopped is if he’s run over by a truck - in other words if he runs into trouble like his pastor.’

Full speed ahead to the White House for Hillary!

Unbelievably Indiana have not tallied their votes yet. An area near Chicago is missing.

‘Crazy’ says CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin.

Seriously he said it looked like good old fashioned classic corrupt Chicago politics until one sees what type of results are needed and then you arrange for the necessary results. This was of course an exaggeration and his colleagues laughed with him but no one contradicted him.

Hillary didn’t hesitate a second when she finally gave her speech in Indianapolis. Of course she’d won. She told her supporters:

‘Thank you. Now it’s full speed ahead to the White House!’

More.

It’s remarkable how quickly the psychology in such a marathon campaign swings back and forth. Two weeks ago when Hillary got her double digit victory in Pennsylvania it began to feel like the Obama saga was over. Now when he’s won big in the delegate rich North Carolina and lost by a narrow margin in Indiana it suddenly is Hillary’s curtain coming down.

And even more remarkable how one is influenced by this psychology.

It’s ten o’clock and 80% of the votes are counted. And the media still won’t pick a winner in Indiana. In the beginning when Clinton had a 20 point lead they seemed overly cautious - but not at all.

The margin shrunk successively through the night and when the results from the northwest districts Hammond and Gary come in it can shrink to nothing.

They are namely suburbs of Chicago that happen to be in another state - and Chicago as we know is Obama’s home state.

91% of black voters in North Carolina voted for Obama according to CNN. I shouldn’t report that, write some of the people who’ve sent me mail. Skin colour means nothing and therefore should not be mentioned, they claim.

One might wish it were true but to ignore the importance ethnicity has in this election - when the US can get its first black president - would be to shut one’s eyes to reality out of some misguided political correctness.

And now the magnificent John King is saying it will be until midnight before the Indiana counties in the northwest report their results.

And I’m not waiting that long.

Obama is giving a new victory speech - the first in over a month - that gets the CNN experts to jump for joy over his rhetoric brilliance. Especially for the part about what awaits in a possible campaign against John McCain in the autumn.

‘I am not naive’, claims the senator.

‘He better not be’, as they say around here.

And what happens now?

This is what I wrote in the commentary to the paper’s hard copy: ‘logically this should mean Hillary has to give up. It’s been a long time since she’s had a theoretical chance to catch up - and now the situation is even more dismal. And if she against all odds wipes her rival off the floor in the remaining primaries she’ll still lose. Big. But there is no chance in the world the former first lady will admit defeat.

She will continue to demand the results in Michigan and Florida - which were voided before the campaign began according to a decision by amongst others Clinton herself - are counted.

And she will continue to plea with the superdelegates who will be forced to resolve this mess in the end.

They will be told time after time that it’s only Clinton can win the big states, that only she appeals to the conservative Democrats who determine the outcome of ordinary elections and that therefore only she can defeat John McCain in the autumn.

Therefore count on this tedious process to continue until the last voter places a vote in Montana on 3 June.

And then the superdelegates will determine who will be the nominee around midsummer.

So what is this drawn out super expensive painful campaign circus good for?

Good question.

Remaining are West Virginia next Tuesday; Kentucky and Oregon 20 May; Puerto Rico 1 June; and Montana and South Dakota 3 June.

But as stated: no one can count on there being a candidate even on 4 June.

And now it’s time to go to sleep in New York. Goodbye.

Comment by Kourian | 2008-05-07 06:44:17

I personally think both results were rigged. I suppose a recount could be good but somehow this doesn’t seem like what the HRC offices can tackle. I think they’ve lost important margins over the past months because they’re just not as well organised. And it’s a shame. But that Indiana and North Carolina return results so at variance with all polls - no. I do not buy that. The results were rigged and I can detect the stench of organised corruption far away. US democracy RIP.

I don’t question Rove’s ability to understand the electorate - but after what he helped do to Valerie Plame & Joe Wilson, do you really think we should give him or his network any exposure at all…??? I feel like my head is going to explode after reading some of these pro FOX News posting…?!?!?!

I personally think Rove’s a treasonous pr*ck and should be in jail - but hey that’s just me…

I know I could pull dozens of articles from this site alone that support my disgust for this guy…
