“All Things To All People”

Corrente Wire, a fine blog, has done us a service by breaking down one of those encyclopedic New York Times articles into bite-size chunks. The NYT piece you can read yourselves, but here are a couple snippets from what Corrente has gleaned (and which any rational being not addicted to the KoolKidAid can see plain as day):

That seems to be a familiar pattern with Obama - it’s “buddies for life” while he needs them, then he forgets about them when they are no longer useful, or tosses them under the bus when they become inconvenient. This doesn’t bode well for the OFB [...]

… this hotshot “civil rights” attorney has nothing to show for his experience. Most people who run on their record have a record to run on. Even Rudy Giuliani made his name going after organized crime. [...]

It seems everything Obama does benefits Obama. Every job, every friendship, is just part of the same pattern.

A similar theme runs through Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass’s latest column, “Obama Unstained by Chicago Way“:

“I know there are those like John Kass who would like me to decry Chicago politics more frequently, and I’ll leave that to his editorial commentary,” Obama said.

Not the politics, just the corruption, I said then, wishing silently that he had decried it all, that he’d stood up years ago and pointed to the list of sleazy deals, pointed an angry finger at the Duffs, the white, Outfit-connected drinking buddies of Daley who received $100 million in affirmative action contracts through City Hall.

That’s an easy political commercial for the Republicans: Mobbed-up white guys party at the old Como Inn with Daley, and they get $100 million in city affirmative action contracts and Daley doesn’t know how it happened and Obama endorses the mayor in the name of reform.

Obama had nothing to do with the Duff deal. But he kept mum. He has endorsed Daley, endorsed Daley’s hapless stooge Todd Stroger for president of the Cook County Board. These are not the acts of a reformer, but of a guy who, as we say in Chicago, won’t make no waves and won’t back no losers.

Kass points a finger at the media (as do we, often):

As a candidate, Obama will do what he has to do to win. My argument is not with him–but with the national political media pack that refuses to look closely at what Chicago is. They’re fixated on what it was, and they think it’s clean now.

And they’ve spent years crafting, then cleaving to their eager and trembling Obama narrative, a tale of great yearning, almost mythic and ardently adolescent, a tale in which Obama is portrayed as a reformer, a dynamic change agent about to do away with the old thuggish politics.

It’s as if Axelrod channeled it, wearing a peaked Merlin hat. Obama is a South Sider and does not hail from Camelot or Mt. Olympus or the lush forests of mythical Narnia.

I’ve joked that reporters feel compelled to hug him, in their copy, as if he were the cuddly faun, the Mr. Tumnus of American politics. But I was only kidding. The real Mr. Tumnus never had Billy Daley or Ted Kennedy carving up Cabinet appointments.

So why the disconnect? Why is Obama allowed to campaign as a reformer, virtually unchallenged by the media, though he’s a product of Chicago politics and has never condemned the wholesale political corruption in his home town the way he condemns those darn Washington lobbyists….

Jeralyn at Talk Left also has plenty to say about the NYT piece.

this is the entire deal…

the “civil rights” law that Obama did was in reality ,inority set aside housing (ie Rezko). he, his wife and his law firm were all wrapped in that.

Im a Clintonite. I worked at a firm in DC in the early ninties that was headed up Buddy James who - is the ex dep mayor of Cleveland and who made MILLIONS for himself and his idiot son who he set up in that business on FL. (That dimwit made millions - only becaise his dad was connected and because he was black - nothing more) It disgusted me. Its was-is a disgrace.

Thats the world Obama lived in - and now his bio says he was working “civil rights” Barf!

By the way - this was the same firm where that jerk Gabe - who was the ambassador to Chile - and publicly went from Hillary to Obama - was a partner. Im sure James pulled that off - hes a scummy - greedy - always race aware - bastard.

Comment by Talktruth | 2008-05-10 19:48:27

He and his peeps are so shady, it’s unreal.

That’s funny - I had no idea you said, “Barf.” I guess Obomba is making lots of people sick around here :-b.

This is ridiculous. This is an article designed to portray BO as the presumptive nominee, hence the freaking SEVEN pages. The MSM is SO desperate. Today, I heard NPR saying the WEATHER at the two candidates’ campaign stops were a metaphor for the way their campaigns are going. Hillary - grey, cold and dreary; BO - sunny and warm. BARF!

Anyway, I got through the first page.

“deliberate thinker who fashions carefully nuanced positions” - Like voting “PRESENT”?

“forming relationships with various communities and as he takes his next step up, kind of distancing himself from them and then positioning himself as the bridge” - Like the AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY”?

What a fraud.

Remember: Only 2209 delegates are legit!

Comment by zzzot | 2008-05-10 20:43:23

Cling to that. lol lol. Wait I’ll give you all of Hillary’s delusional truism’s: 2209 is the number, only big states count, it’s NOT about total delegates, she’s got more electoral college votes, if this was the Republican primary she would have already won, lol lol did I miss any? Drink that kool-Aid fool. lol lol

Check this out from real clear politics.
. DEBOTH said:

A real DREAM-TICKET that could straighten out our country is John McCain and Hillary Clinton. This ticket would win by huge margins in the General Election. John Kerry ask McCain to be his VP so what would be unusual about this?

These are two friends with a lot of the same views and his strengths would offset her weaknesses as would her strengths off set his.

Two patriots that have been vetted and proven to be God fearing, honorable people and know the path the country should take to get back on track. Experience, honor, integrity and intelligence with total respect for each other would be combined in these 2
candidates. This would definitely defeat Obama and his very troublesome backers.

It is apparent that Hillary Clinton would never accept a VP slot with Obama. Barack Obama goes against what America stands for. He appears to be a left wing Marxist and is mixed up with all kinds of questionable characters. The latest to get some traction is Robert Malley, He is a Hamas sympathizer
And was an Obama advisor, friend and went to law school with him. The association was first reported back on January 29, 2008. Here is the link to that article from Worldnet Dailey http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59930

Our country will suffer greatly at the hands of Obama who will only be a puppet and a ploy for those like Ted Kennedy who said just yesterday that he wanted to be able to get some bills passed after Obama was elected. One can only imagine what left wing crap this will be. Kennedy is possibly the least of all evil ones, for Obama has strong ties to Kenya and the radical Muslim, militant relatives of his, Rezco and Auchi whose ties go all the way to Syria and Iraq including Saddam Hussein. Then of course there is Pastor
Jeremiah, Louis Farrakhan and Obama’s communist mentor ‘Uncle Jack’ that he referred to in one of his books. We should not forget his very mean spirited wife who
Is extremely racist and also WANTS TO RIP OUT BILL CLINTONS EYEBALLS
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=63532

Just compare Michelle Obama to Laura Bush and those 2 names should not even be written in the same sentence.

Senators McCain and Clinton are both fighters and both are patriots who will fight for our country and not permit terrorists to come in and take down our country.
We as Americans should promote the McCain/Clinton ticket to protect our country, our families and our future.

I know that the Obama camp loves that word, but it would be appreciated if you didn’t use it on this site. It is offensive and misogynistic. Please try and show some basic decency and manners.

Comment by kenoshaMarge | 2008-05-11 05:47:39

It is indeed a misogynistic term and he is an Obama supporter that comes to a Hillary Clinton supporting blog and calls her supporters “whores”. That’s because they think of women as whores. They are sexists and don’t even bother to hide it anymore.

If anyone even dares to utter a word against their frail little candidate they scream “racist” and have hysterical fits about it for days. However they are fine with misogyny. Hating women is who they are. Believe them when they tell you so. Believe them when they show who and what they are. And it comes from the top down.

As a Democrat for my whole life until just recently I cannot in all good conscience vote for John McCain. But as a woman, there is no way in hell I would ever vote for Obama. I dislike McCain. I hate Obama.

Comment by Mary | 2008-05-11 10:51:57

Notice the article CLEARLY explains that Obama MADE SURE his Black supporters–church and otherwise—got large earmarks and “affirmative action grants” for their church programs.

And Michelle Obama actually WORKED for the very crooked Daley machine for several years.

This man is not for anything “new.”

He used the crooked Chicago machine to pad his own way to the White House, and never once spoke out against it.

What an incredible fraud he is.

Do any of the regular contributors here live in Denver? Can we find a way to rent a school gym, Elks Club meeting hall, etc. and hold a parallel convention during the “Democratic” one, invite the disenfranchised Michigan and Florida delegates to attend, and formally endorse Hillary Clinton for President as an Independent? Of course she won’t accept, but if we could get a good crowd, it could be symbolic of our refusal to follow our party into the grave it’s dug for itself I(or, more accurately, has been dug for it by Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, and the caucuses.)

I think we could nominate Wesley Clark for VP too. I suspect that’s what Hillary would do, if she were to win the “Democratic” nomination.

This Monday, May 12th, SB 2433 (Obama is the main sponsor) will go to the floor for a vote, it basically wants 7% of GNP to be funneled to the U.N. for Africa, it’s called something like The Global AntiPovery Bill, can we afford this? Bush has been sending them Billions, I’m all for chariety, however we have alot of unfunded need here at home. Are you suprised Obama hasn’t been talking about this bill?

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-10 21:28:02

We need to funnel it into America four OUR poor first.

Comment by Lillian | 2008-05-11 04:37:00

I am African and I totally agree with you Uppity. There’re many places in the USA that I would be terrified to live in. Let everybody share in the American Dream and share the wealth. What do they say? First clean up your own backyard before moving to your neighbour’s. Or something like that.

Africa chugs along at quite a different pace …

Comment by Mary | 2008-05-11 10:57:11

This Obama bill has already been used by the McCain campaign as one of his “liberal” indications.

The bill doesn’t say the president “may” set aside 7% of GDP for global poverty.

It says the president WILL set it aside, meaning HAVE TO, NO OTHER CHOICE.

Republicans have estimated that will cost our nation $845 BILLION. That’s BILLION, with a B.

We’re already in debt up to our ears.

There is no way in hell the Blue Dogs Democrats in Congress will vote for this bill, unless Obama can make it PAYGO.

To do that, he’ll have to raise taxes or cut American programs, including Social Security and Medicare.

America’s senior citizens will be outraged when the information comes out.

You aren’t going to stay for the “Race Card Count?”. I was wondering, do you know how many hits my blog gets daily? Unless you are stopping by every few minutes and stroking yourself over something in it, I would say it’s hardly insignificant. Do you have any idea how many hits NQ gets? Taylor Marsh? Do you know the size of our email groups?

People don’t post but they read and that’s the deal. And guess who else reads here? The news outlets. In fact, if it weren’t for Larry, that photo of that rat bastard Bill Ayers standing on a flag would have never hit Fox News. Well but Fox doesn’t interest you I know, even though your Barry practically spawned to get on the O’Reilly show. Fox isn’t your cup of tea. But it interests all those bitter hicks that are going to kick barry’s ass back to Pakistan in the GE. Just sayin’

I TRY to never bring it up but it’s a recurring theme here. About Fox.. plain facts about 86% of the people who get their “NEWS” from them are going to vote Republican. It’s truly telling that at this point that this is where you go for your news, and it’s not a flattering assessment for Hill and here supporters.

Accusing everyone of being Desperate? Look. This can only end one of two ways. 1) Obama succeeds in stealing the nomination by rigging caucuses, and gets clobbered in November by the GOP. Or 2) He will do the honourable thing (yeah right, Obama and honour, snark) step aside to spend more time with Michelle (YIKES) so that the only real Democrat with a history of republican slaying can defeat McCain. Otherwise come November, it’s Rev. Wright, Hamas , Ayers, terrorist ties, Renko, Michelle Obama (yikes) and more Rev. Wright, 24/7. Ok… You’re up Sparky. Tell me again how I’m stupid, delusional, desperate…blah, blah, blah…I’ll be back in a bit, I need to refresh my drink. I may even take some time to go jump my hubby’s bones, he’s looking mighty fine tonight. 2)

lol good one.

Rev. Wright, Hamas , Ayers, terrorist ties, Renko

I keep repeating myself but this is what Hillary has spawned in her supporters, a GUTTER mentality.
Quite frankly if this was a true measurement OUR most favorite President(mine certainly)to date, BILL CLINTON would never have made it into office.

And this press push, too, this is the same thing that took us to Iraq, a mistake of catastrophic proportions for this country.

Do people think these things fix themselves?

What, will it take about 12 more years until the President is pressured into using nuclear bombs for real, because he’s such a third tier mind unable to withstand the pressure of the press, or his business associates, or his PR team?

Susan wrote posts regarding Obama’s slip ups, and it is very relevant, the President has to be able withstand peer pressure, stressers, we can only begin to imagine. He can’t? Well, there goes Pakistan.

He’s falling down without even having to face minimal stress.

God forbid, what if someone use the N word, in reference to his children?

What if they confront him face to face, on Wright, in an angry confrontational manner, in public? How will Obama stand up to the haters, and not the ones controlled by Axlerod, to better showcase Obama’s machismo?

What happens when he’s snubbed, not given the respect he feels he’s entitled to because well, he’s almost President?

That GQ pose yesterday, the one from the PO where he declared himself victor reminded me of a scene from Conundrum, the x files episode where Mulder and Scully went to the freak circus.

At the end, Jim Rose is commenting on cultural homogenization, and he said “pretty soon we will all look like him,” and the camera panned to a profile shot of Mulder, then in the full bloom of male beauty and intellect, glancing around, as oblivious to the world around him as a bowl of vanilla pudding.

And I thought, my god, Obama, you’re just a bowl of pudding!

That seems to be a familiar pattern with Obama - it’s “buddies for life” while he needs them, then he forgets about them when they are no longer useful, or tosses them under the bus when they become inconvenient.

Unfortunately, that’s politics since the dawn of time.

A quick read of Roman history will tell of even WORSE.

But Obama shows how ruthless he can be to gain the brass ring, and such politicos are dangerous. Because if they can treat friends as but stepping stools, you can imagine how he treats those who aren’t his friends (even past friends). Such types have no internal moral/ethics compass, they are but savages among society (which society eventually brings down, hard).

Another thing. The reason JFK, RFK and MLK, Jr were assassinated (and the Civil Rights movement’s objective hasn’t taken root) is because both men were too radical for the time, and you can’t push society to change overnight — without severe backlashes. Society has a way, bad or good, to dictate the mores of the age. It will repel radical change, if not with assassinations, civil wars.

This is why moderation is the key to change that works, and works within the rules of society. It offers time for society to work in change without having a fire sale of old ways that upsets it to no end. Little steps of progress has a better foothold, than a radical change overnight (where it can be reversed as radically, with bitterness that isn’t forgetten for generations).

That’s another lesson this Obama couple hasn’t learned (pinheads don’t learn from history, as they’re too busy trying to CHANGE IT). I hope they don’t learn the lesson as JFK, RFK, and MLK, Jr did, too. Because if society is pushed, it will push back in a way to show it’s authority — and it’s the ultimate power, as it’s the base of our civilization itself.

The media narrative is the problem here. Throughout their obvious bias and support for Obama’s nomination, they are trying to take the heat off of themselves. Haven’t we all (Obama and Clinton supporters) just learned that we have been being used by the media and their paid military analysts from the Dept. of Defense to spread the Pentagon’s propaganda in support of George Bush’s misadventures including genocide of innocents, an illegal war and torture in our hidden prisons all over the world. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, the Newspapers (NYTimes) have all been willingly co-opted for a gov’t propaganda campaign that has made the us all on the brink of another World War, one that would be unimaginable. Bush and Cheney don’t even care. They got theirs. But why in the world are any of us listening to the talking heads on any television station. We should be in the streets burning them down. And all of the media personalities and talking heads are totally complicit. Russert and Co., Blitzer, you name em. Have any of us heard any stories about the military’s paid propaganda stories? WHY NOT! What does Obama have to say about this? We’ve already seen the Clintons stand up to them. Thats why the media enjoys tearing them up so much. I wonder why they like Obama so much right now.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-11 07:59:22

They “like” Obama so much now because they are seasoning him for McCain’s roast. Remember, these are the same people who gave us George Bush. Twice. Obama isn’t going to know what hit him when they move the the basting stage. Olberman will continue wishing he could oral Barry but the rest of them will turn on him like junkyard dogs. The MSM is and always was owned by Right Wing nutcases. I shall enjoy watching Barry squirm when it all starts. By then, Michelle’s head should explode. She’s complaining now and hasn’t seen anything yes. When the ride is easy, you expect it to stay easy.

A great article (thanks to Sensible Woman for teh link):

What might West Virginia’s primary mean?

CHARLESTON, West Virginia (CNN) — West Virginians will head to the polls Tuesday for the state’s Democratic primary between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Some say it could send a sobering message to Obama’s Democratic supporters.

West Virginia is expected to go for Clinton big time — and the polls show it.

Clinton has a 43-point advantage over Obama, 66 percent to 23 percent, according to a survey from the American Research Group released Friday.

Obama narrows Clinton lead in superdelegates
Obama acknowledges that West Virginians favor Clinton.

A big Clinton win will send a powerful message that there are a lot of Democrats not ready to get on the Obama bandwagon.
