Illinois Combat Veterans: Obama Wasn’t Available To Meet With Us

Looks like Barack Obama ignored another constituency when the cameras weren’t rolling. And now Democrats will have to pay. This is why we must nominate Hillary Clinton, our only chance to beat John McCain in the fall.

Below is a Commercial made by a nonpartisan not for profit organization named Vets for Freedom Political Action Committee. In it, an Iraq combat veteran from Illinois discusses how he and 12 other combat veterans were unable to meet with Barack Obama. This vet wants to know why it is that Barack Obama is willing to meet with despots and terrorist leaders but not with Generals or combat veterans. He wants to know how it is that Barack Obama is so smart about the Middle East when he hasn’t even been there during his two and a half years in the Senate.

“If Barack Obama won’t listen to us, who will he listen to?”

Republicans and John McCain are ready to pounce on the unprepared and unqualified Senator of Illinois. This is yet another reason why Democrats must nominate Hillary Clinton, who would never ignore our veterans and our men and women in uniform. Do Democrats seriously think Obama will win against McCain if two of the important issues of this election are national security and veterans’ issues? We are in for a long and uncomfortable ride this November if they actually do.

I love your “name”!!!!

Comment by Donkey Brazziere | 2008-05-26 15:51:29

I didn’t invent it…but I like it too. :)

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2008-05-26 17:56:15

I like it too, very much .

The reason is because I keep seeing the Donkey from Shrek.

So in your honor and it being Memorial Day…

some one liners from Donkey to Obambi (the sensi troll…he does look pretty green)

Donkey: Okay, let me get this straight: you gonna go fight a dragon and rescue a princess just so Farquaad’ll give you back your swamp, which you only don’t have ‘cos he filled it full of freaks in the first place, is that about right?

or this one;

Donkey: You know what, Obambi? I think this whole wall thing is to keep somebody out.
Obambi: No! You think?
Donkey: Are you hiding something?
Obambi: Let it go, Donkey.
Donkey: Oh, this is one of those onion things, isn’t it?
Obambi: No, it’s one of those drop-it-and-leave-it-alone things.
Donkey: Why won’t you talk about it?
Obambi: Why do you want to talk about it?
Donkey: Then why are you blocking?
Obambi: I’m not blocking.
Donkey: Oh, yes you are.
Obambi: Donkey, I’m warning you.
Donkey: Just who are you trying to keep away? Just tell me that, Obambi?
Obambi: Everyone! All right?
Donkey: Oh, now we’re getting somewhere

.

The DNC really needs to start paying attention. McCain is going to run on this military service and national security and foreign policy. Obama cannot win that debate. He’s done.

Comment by bigkitty | 2008-05-26 15:42:02

This vet wants to know why it is that Barack Obama is willing to meet with despots and terrorist leaders but not with Generals or combat veterans.

Pay to play, when the vets can pony up a 1.25 million “donation” Obama will meet with them.

Until then, you’re on your own, kids…

Comment by southsider | 2008-05-26 15:43:45

He did not have time to visit veterans, but he had time to strategize the state Treasurer campaign of corrupt banker for Rezko and the mob Alexei Giannoulias, the unqualified trust fund baby who had to have an elected office. Those are some real priorities, Barack. Screw the vets, but play with those who pay you at the East Bank Club. This guy is a joke.

Comment by bigkitty | 2008-05-26 15:59:41

Apparently, veterans services are affected in IL by budget shortfalls, really by the corrupt officials unable to execute the responsibility of their offices, all in it for the cash.

The whole system is collapsing, but the Obama’s never think it will affect them, too.

I PRAY the lot of them go to prison.

If people thought Michael Brown was bad, it will get worse until Washington is cleaned up.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-26 16:47:19

Washington is cleaned up.

Isn’t this what Obama says in his stump speech.
He’ll clean up Washington?

Yeah right. He is part tof them and the problem.
Dirty shuckster. He has the people believing him.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-05-26 16:48:58

He clean Washington with Rezko grease.

Comment by Lou | 2008-05-26 16:43:20

LOL-so true, so true! He has more time to meet with big national and internaitonal banks tan he does the vets..

Comment by MyTownTalks | 2008-05-26 15:47:09

This does not really suprise me. Obama’s wife has nver been proud of her country. They definitely won’t think the vets are important people.

Comment by Shainzona | 2008-05-26 15:47:53

A very powerful commercial. I wish it didn’t exist, but I know this, and others, are waiting just around the corner for BO.

Oh, and shame on BO for not “having” the time to meet with Vets from his own state. Shame.

Comment by hillarysmygirl | 2008-05-26 15:49:54

Where’s Keith Obamaman now, to scold Sweetie? “Shame on you, Barry. How could you?”

Comment by satin.sheets.feminist | 2008-05-26 15:52:32

He is too busy fingering his twenty-four year old concubine, just as Obama was too busy to visit with veterans.

What’s back in style these days?
National Security, patriotism and service to ones country.
The obamabots thought that their Anti-Americanism would carry the day. Maybe in 2005 when Iraq wasn’t going so well. This is 2008 and the surge is working and we have real threats with Iran.

When I lived in Chicago in 1968 my father taught me how to spell a big word.

Antidisestablishmentarianism.

The democrat party is being taken over by internationalists in the Marxist mold along with the money from the 57 states of Islam.

I will resist these left wing kooks in every way imaginable and that includes voting Republican for the first time in 24 years

Comment by bigkitty | 2008-05-26 16:04:46

When does it stop being an astroturfed buzzword, and finally, simply, the right thing?

You see the difference?

Comment by Ivory Bill Woodpecker | 2008-05-26 16:18:23

I seriously doubt the surge is working, or can work, but I accept the grim fact that these stupid, useless, win-proof wars will continue no matter who becomes president, because the Oil Lobby, the “Defense” Lobby, and the Israel-First Lobby will allow nothing else–so voting for or against any of the remaining presidential candidates will not change that, and I can vote against Plastic Jesus for other reasons.

This country has not faced any war in which our own survival or independence was at stake since 1945. All the wars and CIA-type dirty tricks since then have been to preserve the inalienable right of USAmerican and multinational corporations to plunder the Global South, propping up local tyrants to kill, torture, and jail as many natives as necessary to maintain the profits of our civilization’s misruling classes, in service to the true god of our civilization, who is Mammon.

True patriotism would require ending the bankruptive network of overseas bases and bringing our people home. The proper purpose of the United States Armed Forces is to defend the USA, not to defend the profits of Big Business. Our current level of military spending will bankrupt our country. Need I even point out the fact that bankruptcy is not good for the country? Real conservatives used to understand such things. Some still do, over at antiwar.com.

Support our troops–bring them home, and then impeach the murdering goat-rapers who sent our brothers and sisters to die for a pack of lies, convict them, and ship their sorry arses to the Hague.

Comment by scott | 2008-05-26 16:33:36

“Our current level of military spending will bankrupt our country.”

For most people and small businesses running up a few trillion dollar debt would be considered bankrupt. Plus when you can’t pay it back to the loan sharks (Chinese) they break your knee caps.

Comment by scott | 2008-05-26 16:35:50

Didn’t fiscal responsibility used to be the cornerstone of the Republican party?

Comment by Ivory Bill Woodpecker | 2008-05-27 01:18:46

Indeed it did, Scott. I just turned 45 two weeks ago, and I can remember when the Democrats were considered the big spenders–then St. Ronnie The Vastly Overrated became Prez, and the deficits started going through the roof.

Comment by Fred C. Dobbs | 2008-05-27 07:00:11

Do you mean The Addled Puppet Reagan?

Comment by mad vlad | 2008-05-26 16:43:14

Not quite!

US DoD spending INCLUDING allocations for Iraq
and Afghanistan is currently approx 4.5% of GDP.

In the peak spending era of the Vietnam war,
US DoD spending routinely fell wi/ or above
the 6-9% range relative to GDP. I think peak
spending was 11% in one or two yrs.

6% has been the “safe” upper limit. In that
regard, DoD spending could expand instantaneously to 800bill$/yr and still be in the “safe”
zone.

“The country has not faced any wars in which…”

And why do you suppose that is? Do you suppose
it has anything to do w/ the establishment of a power projection network overseas? Do you suppose it has to do w/ the premise that we
will fight in YOUR backyard and not mine?
Do you suppose the term “deterrence” figures
into the thesis at some point? Peace thru
strength maybe?

Comment by Ivory Bill Woodpecker | 2008-05-27 01:30:37

I see Vlad is mainlining the carnage industry’s Kool-Aid. ‘Tis a pity. Perhaps the thought of that power makes Vlad feel good–maybe Vlad is, ahem, compensating for some perceived inadequacy? ;)

What do we have ALL THOSE NUKES for if not to deter attack? Nobody is going to invade and conquer this country. That power projection network was set up to subjugate the Global South to Big Business–but the misruling class knows that ordinary USAmericans would not consent to spill our blood and treasure for that purpose, so they invented the “Red Menace”, which inconveniently curled up and died–tsk, how rude of it–and they spent the ’90s scrambling for another bogeyman, until they found one in “Islamofascism”.

Gosh all whillikers, how convenient for the misruling class that this new menace showed up and scored a big hit just when many USAmericans were starting to doubt there were any real menaces to spill all that blood and treasure against.

It was so wonderfully convenient for the misruling classes I just have to wonder if they allowed it, or even arranged for it, to happen.

Comment by Fred C. Dobbs | 2008-05-27 07:03:09

That level of spending also got us The Lyndon B Johnson Memorial Inflation, because we dod a bunch of it on credit to maintain a policy called, “Guns and Butter.”

Reagan had to start three recessions to straighten that out and throw enough people out of work to cut the inflation back to a workable number.

This ad (along with the others posted earlier today) need to be emailed to all of the uncommitted Super Delegates. They need to see the full scope of what they’ll be facing in the fall if Obama is the nominee.
There’s no point in sending it to Howard Dean or the DNC leadership. I’m convinced that he and his cronies just want to run the Clintons out of the Democratic party and really don’t care whether it means losing the White House.

Comment by Strawberry | 2008-05-26 15:53:30

Typical, sleezy GOP ad. Using wounded military folk, innuendo and half truths. Not enough to totally bring Bambi down, but just enough to cause doubt when a person steps into the voting booth. Barky hasn’t got a chance come November. Axelrod may use Rovian tactics but Rove will clean his clock. After all Rove wrote the book on sleeze.

HOT FLASH. This video reminds me why there’s another bad poll for Obama. Rasmussen really buried this one. They term the state safely Republican, imagining Obama will be nominated.

That’s because McCain beats Obama 57-32%. But what’s that other number there for someone named Clinton? It looks like she’s ahead by 9%. Click on the link for the crosslines and there it is —

Comment by fran | 2008-05-26 17:53:58

Obviously, he’s not bothering with Puerto Rico or South Dakota now either. The fix is in.

This ad. is yet another example of the yawning chasm between Obama’s Axelrod created image and reality.

I hate to say it, but propaganda works. This weekend I was with several highly educated, well-read friends–most women–for a reunion. Only one other person was a Hillary supporter. As with most Obamabots, they were very fact-averse, and yelled that “Hillary is a liar!” When I actually responded with data, they were defensive and completely unaware of it. These are all readers–but get their news primarily from the New York Times. When I mentioned BO’s lies, they were shocked and disbelieving. No clue. It was frightening.

If the superdelegates are stupid enough to continue on this course, as it seems, I am actually going to enjoy watching the dismantling of Obama. He so deserves it. Honeymoon is over kid.

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-26 18:01:34

I go through this with my family. They acknowledge that I know the issues and have watched the campaign closer than anyone else. When they raise a question, I can answer it. And yet. It turns out that though they are all HRC supporters, they intend to vote for Obama since he is a “democrat.” I have been told that my vote for McCain will sever me from being a Democrat. Having heard that on line — said in ugly and vulgar terms from people I have never met — the statement is fairly innocent, but it certainly still offends me. I am confident that before the calendar has turned one full year, they will all be asking me why they didn’t listen more closely when I was speaking.

I can’t find the story now but back in fall of ‘07 there was a smear from the obama camp about Hillary refusing to meet with fallen veterans families.

It was completely false and she got their endorsement but his camp portrayed her with smear.

I don’t remember any of the other details but it was one of so many times he accused her of what he does.

Comment by yttik | 2008-05-26 17:32:56

To make matters worse, Obama showed his lack of experience by trying to critisize Mccain from the Senate floor during the GI bill vote. McCain slammed him and left Obama hanging out in the wind looking like an idiot.

Was it hubris or ignorance that made Obama think it was a good idea to taunt a former POW and basically say, “neener, neener, I support the troops more then you do! Look, I’m pandering to them right now!”

Comment by Ellen Tenn | 2008-05-26 17:42:07

There is NO way Obama will get elected in November if this is only the start of what the GOP has planned.

okay, sorry to have to do this to you, but i will, its memorial day, and this letter by a black woman serving in the military, is just beautiful, and so very well written, i have to post it…

==============================================
Democratic Storm Warnings
The first in an ongoing series on voter dissatisfaction.

guest post by Patsy

Let me introduce myself. I am 29 year old female serving in the United States Army. I am black. I am proud. And I am a supporter of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

We have seen daily how Senator Clinton moves forward to speak for our loved ones, our families and our friends, despite the constant call for her to step down. She has gone forward despite the obstacles in her path and she has continued to fight. To attempt to destroy the reputation, the name of the former First Lady and Senator by falsely portraying her supporters as racist is one of the worst mistakes of the 2008 election process. To use the the history and the struggles in the black community to destroy another person’s political career is the worst form of politics imaginable.

The media is slowly destroying the black community with their words. MSNBC should fire Keith Olbermann and let him return to being a radio sportscaster. They are ripping the Democratic Party apart and they are dividing this nation. Any sane, reasonable and coherent person can see that the cries of “racism” are their attempts to get Senator Clinton to leave this race. By any means necessary. Therefore any sane, reasonable and coherent person watching this debacle is going to resent what is happening, because anyone can see that Senator Clinton is being railroaded.

African Americans are not in any way stupid. If we believed that there was this level of racial discourse as these pundits make it out to be we would be marching on Washington D.C. But now we can only watch in horror as the media destroys our history. The only ones who are “outraged” are those who have no idea of true racial hatred.

How many black civil rights leaders have you seen in the media, on NBC, MSNBC, and CNN, that have stated that the former President and First Lady are racists? None. But we should believe analysts such as David Gergen, commentators such as Keith Olbermann and reporter Andrea Mitchell who get on television and tell you so? On 27 April, “Meet the Press” NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell boldly stated that racism was a “real factor” in the Obama vote on the ground in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Apparently because many voters are racist they have a “willingness to believe totally erroneous things about Senator Obama,” like he didn’t put his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance. So my next question is, where is the evidence for the “I vote for Senator Clinton and I am racist who clings to my gun and bible” scientific poll to determine who is racist or who is not? So the next time the Obama campaign gives you talking points make sure you understand what you’re reading and saying before you open your mouth and say it.

For those of you who don’t know, there is a movement happening behind the scenes and it’s one that is moving fast and one that is strong. It was born from watching this historic election with our nation having its first viable female contender for the position of Commander in Chief take hit after hit, day after day, while she attempts to fight for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party, when the party in question will not stand up and fight for her.

It was born from watching the little girls with big dreams, and those that are already living the American dream. It came from the mothers who can barely make ends meet and do without just so their families can barely get by. It’s from the blue collar workers who just lost their jobs. It was born from the heroes and sheroes deploying to the same place year after year with no end in sight. It came from the ones who want to give up, but find a way to keep on going. It started from the ones who have been constantly knocked down, but keep getting back on their feet. It came from those moving forward that never look back.

We all have a dream of change. A change that will put our nation back on the right path. Where putting the safety of our country is the first and foremost priority. Where people would stand up and fight for what they believe in. Where cries of racism is not the way nor the means to achieve a goal. Where the media reports news instead of their biased opinion. Where it’s OK to vote on who is best to lead our country based on a candidate’s experience.

The 2008 primary and general election is historic for many reasons. It’s the chance of having either the first female or black president. But the most important aspect and notable accomplishment for me will be the official date, the official time, the exact moment the Democratic Party died for me.

The party I thought I knew ceased to exist the moment, the minute and the second they allowed the first most qualified female presidential candidate in our nation’s history to be attacked, destroyed, and ripped apart, which reached a tipping point this weekend. As of 24 May 2008 0930hrs, I no longer belong to the Democratic Party. I will no longer be affiliated with any group or group(s), person or person(s), that would allow a party member to be falsely accused of allegations that bears no relevance or has no relationship to the situation at hand. I will not be part of a party that utilizes character assassination to achieve a goal. I will not quietly sit by and watch the destruction of my chosen candidate. I will not support, vote, or show any loyalty to those who sit quietly aside and allow this to be played out in the court of public opinion. The Party I once knew I know no longer. Today I turn my back on the Democratic Party, because by allowing the falsehoods against Hillary Clinton to be embellished as they have the Democratic Party has turned its back on me.

WHAT DO YA’LL THINK OF THIS LETTER AS A FULL PAGE AD IN USA TODAY?

This letter tore at my heart. By the end of the letter my husband and I were both crying. It is a sad day for us as well because my husband and I who are in our 50s have decided we will be leaving the Democratic party on June 4th.

We have sat by and watched the way the first female candidate who had a chance to be the President of the United States has been treated as less than human by the Obama camp/supporters, the MSM, and the DNC. The DNC had a chance to put the brakes on the way Obama was running his misogynistic campaign and Obama himself has had many opportunities and many months to apologize and admonish his supporters not to let his campaign degrade this way but the DNC and Obama stood by and let it happen. I have lost all respect for my party.

WOMEN: DO NOT GET TIRED OF FIGHTING FOR HILLARY! THEY EXPECT US TO FALL IN LINE LIKE COWS BEING LED TO THE SLAUGHTER BY NOVEMBER. YOU’VE HEARD AXELROD ON TV SAYING THAT HILLARY’S SUPPORTERS WILL FALL IN LINE BY THE GENERAL ELECTION. STAND FIRM AND REMEMBER YOUR ANGER ALL THE WAY THROUGH NOVEMBER!!!

Comment by DancingOpossum | 2008-05-27 07:30:42

Yup. Stay angry until November. Never let it fade. I always murmur this one to myself:

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Remember that Guy Fawkes was considered a traitor but is now regarded a hero whose only “crime” was trying to upset the entrenched and corrupt political order that oppressed and disenfranchised the poor and “outsiders”. Hillary is our Guy Fawkes–the reviled “usurper” who is actually a hero–and we too will remember in November.
