Polls: Hillary Does Better than McCain and Obama in Kentucky (and FL, OH, PA)

The latest Rasmussen poll of Kentucky voters shows Hillary beating McCain and McCain beating Obama in the general election in that state:

Clinton 51% …. Obama 32%
McCain 42% McCain 57%

A few days ago, Rasmussen reported the following polling results regarding Pennsylvania’s presidential election in November 2008:.

Clinton 50% …. Obama 45%
McCain 39% McCain 43%

Both polls show Hillary doing very well, but the headlines of Rasmussen’s reports do not mention Hillary at all.  I suppose we should be grateful that Rasmussen is still including questions about Hillary in surveys (unlike some other polling outfits).

Recent polls from Quinnipiac have more good news for Hillary: she’s beating McCain in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania

  FL .OH PA
Clinton 48% 48% 50%
McCain 41% 41% 37%
Obama 41% 40% 46%
McCain 45% 44% 40%

Meanwhile, the news is not so good for Obama, who is losing to McCain in Florida and Ohio but beating McCain in Pennsylvania.

I know, they’re just polls, and I question them regularly.  However, political operatives tend to put stock in polls, especially when different ones indicate similar things.

That said, I wonder how some of the Democratic super-delegates are reacting to some of these Hillary-favoring polls — especially the ones involving swing states.

I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.  Memeorandum has commentary.

And this is how the polls look with a fully vetted John McCain & Hillary Clinton. People know who they are.

Obama is getting the benefit of “generic democrat” in an anti-incumbent year now, but wait until the Republcian attack ads hit the airwaves.

That’s what confuses me Dawnelle, Hillary who is supposed to be on the ropes looks absolutely fabulous…Bambi, who supposedly has this “thing” all sewn up looks like he’s been ridden hard over fifty miles of bad road. What gives?

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-26 17:44:50

Hillary seems to do better coming back from behind.

Obama doesn’t seem to do very well being in the lead. Or keeping it.

I think if Hillary was ahead by 200 delegates she’d probably be being bombarded with innuendo and even some nasty facts

not unlike Barky’s situation

except MOST of us know Hillary’s facts or expected gaffes of facts

we KNOW what to expect with her and it’s NOT dangerous or unfriendly!
AND it is VERY intelligent and VERY responsive to everyday Americans.

She’s got the winning ticket DOWN! I hope they give her the chance to use what she’s got!!

And don’t forget, Strawberry, Mr. Hope took a 4-5 day vacation during Easter, while Hillary campaigned. He has taken several weekends off too since then and Hillary has campaigned non-stop. She always looks so fresh and vibrant and he always looks worn out and whooped. What a WIMP!

My guess is that any energy he has comes from something that is a cocaine substitute - some kinda upper - and those can be hard on a person and hard to control and they sure as hell keep you skinny.

Although lately I’ve been wondering if he has Bush’s problem: is so dyslexia that he’s on something like ritalin and its cousins which produces the same problems.

That’s funny, she danced with a Fox producer much to his delight it seems. Our girl “gets” unity.

NY is a demanding town, it’s hard each day as you’re faced with a myriad of events most places can’t fathom. NY’ers blow it all off with a laugh and a shake and get up and do it all over again.

She’s adopted the NY spirit and can go anywhere in the world and be at home.

Rise Hillary Rise - that bottle of beer!

:-)

Comment by D. Cupples | 2008-05-26 17:07:38

Karen,

She really does have the unity thing down. It’s odd that Obama is the one who made claims to it, yet he caused division within his own party.

And there’s Hillary, winning over people in the other party. I watched the faces of O’Reilly, Scarborough and Scaife: they seemed genuinely comfy around her.

You’re right: she’s a true uniter, and think of how valuable that would be in a president who has to deal with many nations.

She knows against all odds she has received over 17 million votes and that she is the people’s choice. And because she fought the battle no one can take that away.

Comment by Susaninbosque | 2008-05-26 22:37:38

And she knows where O came from and that there are a whole lot more rocks to turn over before the convention arrives…. but I agree, I suspect she knows a few things we haven’t seen like some of the stuff that Larry has wind of.

Superdelegates must nominate Clinton if they desire to win in November.

Comment by Felix Rodriguez | 2008-05-26 16:57:12

Not according to Donna Brazile. If they do, so she says, “there will be blood.”

That’s right. Now we have to elect a president based on home grown terrorism.

I wish Donna and Howard and the Obamas would just find an island and start their own little marxist regime.

I bet money, Barry would not be the leader.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-05-26 17:00:35

I doubt Obama ever read Marx. In fact, I doubt the man has read anything other than the vacuous treatises his ghostwriters penned on his behalf.

Comment by morris1030 | 2008-05-26 18:35:20

I have actually heard Donna B. threaten to leave the party if she doesn’t get her way….meaning The Roolz. Meaning nominate Obama or ELSE!

She is a loathsome individual in a loathsome cabal to take over the party and t probably succeed considering the support they from AA’s and the young fools acting like they’re at a Rock Concert or voting for American Idol as IdolObamatons.

The so called ‘elite” are ridiculous. They have money, they want something “new”, and they want to feel this is really a unique opportunity.
Those with better heads who want Obama want to be part of his govt, and/or wish to be redeemed of their guilt over american racism or their own racism.

Treating women as “sexist” has come to mean nothing. As Simone De Beauvoir, France’s foremost Exisetntialist writer, feminist and philosophers postulated in 1949 in her groundbreaking book, “The Second Sex” noted in her chapter titled “On The Master Slave Relation”:

“In truth women have never set up female values
in opposition to male values; it is man who, desirous of maintaining masculine perogatives, has invented that divergence. Men have presumed to create a feminine domain -the kingdom of life, of immanence-only in order to lock up women therein. But it is regardless of sex that the existent seeks self-justification through trancendence-the very submission of women is proof of that statement. What they demand today is to be recognized as existents by the same right as men and not to subordinate existence to life, the human being to its animality.”

She goes on, “The female, to a greater extent than the male, is prey of the species; and the human race has always sought to escape its specific destiny. Confronting woman, man assumes mastery. Man’s design is to take control of the instant and to mould the future. This has subdued nature and women.” De Beauvoir contends that this master slave relationship has prevailed throughout the ages.

Insult and slavery have been a commonplace circumstance in the master slave relations of the sexes. Even after waiting for 50 years after blacks were given their voting rights, women were denied. Booker T. Washington urged women “to wait”.

We waited for 50 years thereafter. And now we vote, but since Simone De Beauvoir’s great contributions to feminism in 1949, we are still not where we have the right to be.

If this isn’t racism, what is?

That’s too much math for superdelegates in the tank for Obama to understand.

I guess they only understand math when it involves Rezko cash.

I notice HIllary is above the 50% threshold in Kentucky. How can superdelegates ignore that number?

If superdelegates were thinking logically and doing the role they were meant to do, then they should be supporting Clinton. Instead, they are going for the candidate who is most likely going to lose against McCain. Either they are monumentally stupid or they have been bought and paid for by Obama and his millions from George Soros, or both.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-05-26 16:45:39

If superdelegates do not nominate Clinton, I will assume the entire Party is corrupt.

Comment by Joe | 2008-05-26 16:49:18

Never underestimate the level of incompetence and overestimate the intelligence demonstrated by the powers-that-be in the Democratic Party.

Comment by Truthteller | 2008-05-26 16:50:13

The more Democratic politicians, operatives and insiders I meet, the more I am convinced it is the Party of incompetents. That is certainly the case in Charlotte, North Carolina, where mediocrity and nepotism determine who receives access to power and resources. What comes to mind unbidden are two of the delegates who will represent the Congressional district in which I presently reside at the Democratic convention in Denver. They know who they are.

Comment by D. Cupples | 2008-05-26 17:11:41

Or, as Donkey Brazziere suggested, they might think that losing 2008 will be better for the party in the long run.

Pat Buchanan made the same argument but for the GOP.

Who knows what’s on these people’s minds?

Well, Howard Dean must be smoking crack, that’s all I can say.

Here’s a question. if someone knows the answer, please respond.

I just read on another blog that if, god forbid, Doofus becomes the nominee and because NO ONE in their right mind would vote for him, they might write in Hillary’s name, but that the write-in, when counted, would actually go to the Democratic candidate.

If that is true, then there are only two options given a nightmare scenario: vote for McCain or don’t vote.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Comment by Lakota in GA | 2008-05-26 16:51:07

About write-in votes….I believe it varies by state. In GA, a candidate has to be registered in order for the write-in vote to count.

Comment by yttik | 2008-05-26 17:02:20

If I remember right, the rules vary from state to state and are based on their individual election laws.

In Washington I believe, a candidate who looses a primary cannot file as a write in candidate for the general election.

In Arizona last time I checked, write in votes are allowed but only if the candidate is registered as a write in. Nevada doesn’t allow any write ins at all in presidential elections.

These are just examples I remember from past discussions to give you some idea of how the rules vary from one area to another. You’d have to check with each individual state to get current and accurate info.

Comment by Medusa | 2008-05-26 17:31:25

I’m still betting on Hillary, but if it comes to it, I don’t want to help Barfy get elected.

Comment by AC-n-NC | 2008-05-26 18:27:57

I was gonna write in Hillary but I do not think the DNC will hear a write-in vote so I have decided to vote against Obama by checking the box next to John McCain’s name. I am not voting for McCain, I am voting against the corrupt Obama cult along with the DNC and MSM/blogger boiz.

My father-in-law, talking about the company that he worked for before retiring, often said that “First rate hire first rate while second rate hire third rate.” Howard Dean is a second rate politician and he wants to hire Obama to be the nominee against McCain. This is why McCain will win in November.

Regardless of how the delegate race turns out, I believe that Hillary should take this to the convention. People seem to forget that these are “pledged” delegates not awarded delegates. Take this to the end. Bring all the delegates and superdelegates to Colorado and let them vote. This election has been so shady. Any other ending will be a huge injustice. A lot has changed over the course of this election. Delegates and superdelegates are party officials. Let them decide. Sometimes the shepards are smarter than the sheep. If your delegates or superdelegates went against what you believe the people in your area wanted, remember that when election time rolls around. After the vote if the DNC still decides to lose and goes with Barky. Then it’s over and Obama can go on to get crushed in the GE. Then hopefully fade out of the public service sect altogether. Hillary can focus on 2012. By then most Obama Supporters will have matured and understand their mistakes. Choosing Obamas pied piper mentality over an actual chance to win the WH and actually make some changes. The DNC will hopefully look at their leadership with some serious questions. A fish rots from the head down they say. Dean needs to answer questions about his role “in all this”. We the people can hope that McCain really is not an extension of Bush but if he is. We will endure. Just like we have for the last 8 years. It’s not about them it’s about us. I don’t think I could vote for McCain. As a lifelong Dem that goes against what I believe in. I WILL NOT vote for Obama. As a Chicago resident, to me a vote for Obama is a thumbs up to Chicago politics. IMO Chicago politics is the most corrupt in the country if not the world. They will not receive a “vote of confidence ” from me. Alas my vote is worthless anyway. Obama will carry Illinois. I want all of you to know that my one and possibly only vote this year went to Hillary Clinton. Seeing what I’ve seen and knowing what I know she is our oly real hope for change in this country.

Comment by Zyle | 2008-05-26 20:57:33

Do not hoist a white flag assuming that Obama will win Illinois.
Maybe he will.

Remember, every vote against Obama (i.e. a vote for McCain) in Illinois will be an argument against Obama’s reelection to the Senate in 2010.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-05-26 21:44:18

I get your point. However there is no maybe. Obama will carry Illinois by a huge number. In fact Hillary would carry Illinois by a huge number. She would have won Illinois in a landslide if not for the fact that Obama is a local. If I lived in rural Illinois maybe my vote would have some effect. In Cook County where I reside a vote for McCain will accomplish nothing. I will not be the deciding vote in any district disputes. The Dems will carry Cook County roughly 72%-28%. Hillary is my candidate and I will not vote for Obama. However I will not go against my principles for a meaningless protest vote for McCain.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-05-26 22:01:57

Oh I forgot to add. It’s not only the Illinois Dems that are corrupt. If Obama loses his seat to a republican he would most likely be corrupt also. No one goes anywhere without the backing of the Chicago Machine. The Machine has no political affiliation. They are mostly dems but they wouldn’t let a little thing like party loyalty stand in the way of getting rich at the taxpayers expense.

Cable News, and Obama’s promo rag, the NYT are giving B.O. a sense of entitlement and inevitability. He’s already the president as far as they are concerned.
McCain is being as marginalized as Clinton.
Tthe second B.O. is the nominee, they will pounce like harpies.

Comment by MikeB | 2008-07-22 19:21:20

McCain is going to win Ohio/Florida/Michigan/Pennsylvania.

Polls at this stage are meaningless.

Hell, I remember in 1992 some polls were showing Alabama was “winnable” for Clintons. It was meaningless because it was months before the election and Alabama is a staunch GOP state.

It is the same here. You have to look at state’s voting history, the candidates etc.

Ohio is a swing state Obama lost during the primary. Same with Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania. He lost these big swing states. And when you look at the demographic he lost you realize they are far more likely to vote for McCain. White, blue collar Democrats overwhelmingly voted for Hillary. These people lean conservative on many issues, especially national security.

Hillary made a very smart decision early on. She took centrist positions that would appeal to middle of the road voters. These positions would be appealing in a general election campaign. She wouldn’t need to flip flop like Kerry and Obama. Is Hillary became the nominee she would be able to carry these big states.

I hope to God she does not accept any VP position with Obama. VP pick cannot help Obama win these states. Nobody votes for the VP candidate. Obama is going to lose these states and Hillary will share the blame. She should stay away from him.
