On Memorial Day, Senator Obama, trying to show some patriotism and solidarity with the military and Jews (except those in Israel), mentioned his grandfather’s service in the military and his uncle helping to liberate Auschwitz. Apparently, Senator Obama was also seeing “dead people” at the same time.
Senator, whatever could you POSSIBLY be thinking? What group are you pandering to NOW? We all know your standing with our sons and daughters in uniform. Are you trying to get the “too-stupid-not-to-sign-up-crowd?” Really? Even though your acolytes often suggest the only people serving are those who can’t get work somewhere better, like Starbucks or Whole Foods? That must be some great arugula you’re smoking, to think military people will feel your kinship to them, or was it the phantom army you were talking to? Senator, you do know that phantom army can’t vote? Oh but, you’re from Chicago - maybe that works there.
Where in your universe does having a grandfather and/or great uncle who served in the Army and may or may not have liberated someone somewhere suggest in any way whatsoever that you have any understanding of the military, its people, traditions and sacrifices?
What’s next, sir? A tank ride? By the way, senator, if you’re looking to attract military people, you MIGHT want to ask your not-my-close-friends to step off the flag for their publicity photos hawking their new books.
But Senator, perhaps you were going for the Jewish vote? Having previously stoked the embers of racism into a hungry flame, are you now trying to convince Jews they are “the other white people” - not those horrible West Virginia and Kentucky types - and you can “feel THEIR pain?” Do you think, sir, telling people your “uncle” liberated Auschwitz is a GOOD idea? Particularly since it was the RED ARMY that marched into Auschwitz? Know history, much, sir? Or do you think most Jews get their concentration camps confused and won’t really mind since you so clearly have the best intentions at heart? Or did you MEAN to tell us your uncle-in-the-attic was a communist?
Senator, traditionally on Memorial Day, our politicians profess gratitude for the sacrifices our service members have made on our behalf. Most of the time they manage to distinguish between the living and the dead and to offer up any truthful examples of family members who served. You did neither.
At the VERY LEAST, you should have been able to summon the skills of an experienced politician. But then again, you’re not.

A woman said her husband lost his job, they had no health care and now they were in danger of losing their home. After she had finished Obama without missing a beat talked about his house and how many rooms it had. The audience looked stunned because he never mentioned this woman who was hurting. But this is Obama. If this guy ever became President he would feel nobody’s pain. If Bush flies over our pain Obama wouldn’t even interrupt his Waffles to give it a moment’s thought.

On Memorial Day, most politicians paid tribute to our Military and those who died serving, but Obama didn’t - he was too busy trying to build himself up by bringing up a great-uncle who served in the army - except he got the details mixed up. Facts don’t matter to Obama people. Subjectivity rules their world view, your feelings about Obama are more important than any regard to his obligation to state things factually.
Perhaps this help explains his support among college persons. Most institutions teach you that there are enough examples to argue for or against your point regardless of outcomes. What remains is the subjective value you attach to to all the background noise of process as people use facts that best support their viewpoints.
Lets surpass the need for facts. Hope is dope. Pass it on.
This is not a new tactic, Obama was the person who emphasized a move from the 60s, as a way to distance himself from his own inspirational ties who once networked those years. Yet he dwells within a range of dialog they shared. This in efforts to erect the current framework of NGO, institutions, and other value added horse shit that is draining productivity from the ranks labor and education and replacing it with an insulated insider crew that is no different than the GOP’s insider trading deals of recent.
Tom Wolfe was the person who was portraying this best in the 80’s. A world view and conceptual lifestyle that was simply adding more process and less substance to the overall exchange of ideas and market principles.
Radicals changed protest signs in for formal attire, hippies became yuppies, the aftermath of the era is that most of those men and women channeled new advance into existing infrastructure of society.

Maybe someone should explain to Obama, Rev. At times Obama has used Wright or Michelle to say things that will overshadow other items he might get questioned deep upon. It is a plausible form of cover, but not a very wise one, because it has burned him as bad or worse in the perceptions other form of Barack’s own celebrated judgment.

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading these comments. How about some more from Chris, Andrea, and some of the other clowns at MSNBC. And we mustn’t forget what’s his face, Jack, at CNN and anyone else deserving of the honor.
It seems to me that Obama is taking another page from the Reagan playbook. Reagan often ‘embellished’ or completely made things up about his background depending on the audience he was speaking to. His intent was to appeal to that audience and he seemed to know that the media wouldn’t bother checking up on the story. What he said would be repeated as the news of the day and then the story moves on. Obama is taking advantage of this same dynamic. If what he says is even anywhere close to reality, well the rest is just a ’slip’ and not news so why bother pointing it out?
In this case, while it would seem that he’s courting the Jewish vote, I think he’s just appealing to his base again. This gaffe will be obvious to most Jews. We read that Obama has little Jewish support and I don’t think that he really cares to win them over. These stories are meant to make him appear to be the ‘uniter’ that he thinks he is and that Obamabots hope he is. Gee, what a multicultural guy, eh?

Any genealogist knows how to find military service records and there is a multitdue of on line services that can trace ancestors very accurately; that’s how Obama’s links to Cheney and Brad Pitt were discovered. Not releasing the name of the relative who served won’t prevent any researcher from discovering where his American grandfather’s or grandmother’s brother served or even one of his Kenyan father’s uncles who might have served, which admittedly appears unlikely. My WWII veteran father also heard the stories but he was in the Pacific and no one in the family mixes up his time in the Phillapeans with the horrors he experienced in Japan.
And there is a very big difference between Buchenwald and Auschwitz. Buchenwald was a concentration labor camp in Nazi Germany and Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of the 6 extermination camps and they were all located in Poland.
And for those who don’t think it matters much, check out what happened to Reagan in May 1985 when he decided to lay a wreath at Bitburg Cemetery where Nazi Waffen-SS soldiers were buried. As one unnamed U. S. official was quoted: “I never thought I’d see the day when Ronald Reagan could get the American Legion angry with him, by God, we’ve done it”

I use to like Keith Olberman a lot, but not anymore. He is a “macho” just like the others at MSNBC. They cannot stand a brilliant woman like Hillary and it’s their loss. If Obama wins in November he is going to make mistake after mistake, because he is not prepared to be president of the United States. Poor Olberman, he is as grumpy as Mccain or even more, at least we have not seen Mccain having a tantrum yet.
