The new pastor, Rev Otis Moss has a sermon, available on You Tube, in which he compares his congregation to lepers in the Bible, as having a ’skin disease’ that causes them to be outcasts from the rest of the society. This is what has been going on at TUCC for 20 years – defeatism, psychological separation of blacks from the rest of America,and hostility toward whites. Actually, this Pfleger “sermon” is pretty mild. If one reads the source material on black liberation theology, one finds that the mere fact of being born caucasion makes one guilty of currently oppressing blacks.

My parents, for example, didn’t even immigrate to the U.S. until 1916 (father, as an infant) and 1946 (mother, as a young woman) so my ancestors were never involved in the American era of slavery (and considering where they immigrated from in Europe, were not likely to be European slave traders, either). However, under black liberation theology, since I am caucasion of European ancestry, I am the “beneficiary of slavery” and therefore guilty of currently oppresing all blacks in the United States, regardless of whether they themselves are descendents of slaves or are the product of post-slavery immigration, like I am.

Don’t believe me? Read Cone yourself. And then decide whether you want a President that believes this, or at the very least is willing to raise his children this way in order to punch his Chicago political tickets.

This is just so awful. I am appalled on so many levels – as a woman, as a Democrat, as an American, as a Catholic, as a Clinton supporter, and as an academic with a Ph.D. who studies American politics (no order – just a list of all the ways that sermon bothered me).

But to be honest, the problem is NOT Trinity Church or Rev. Wright (They are consistent and they are who they are – black liberation theologists – and one sign that you are living in a healthy democracy is that you are offended on a daily basis – so I guess I still live in a democratic country!).

The real problem is how INCONSISTENT Obama has been about his relationship to Wright and the Church. It has changed at least five times (2007 – couldn’t do the invocation at BO’s presidential announcement, but still on his religious advisory board; 2008 – “not controversial,” then “like a crazy uncle,” then someone he “could not disown,” then he “renounced” him, but still didn’t leave the church). Oprah left the church after two years of membership – why couldn’t Obama?

In short, we know what Trinity Church is about and we know who Rev. Wright is. What we don’t know – and the MSM fails to investigate – is who Obama is.

Flake, Wrong and Mossy are NOT men of God.

They are a trinity of evil hatred.

Horrified by all three of them and for their congregants who let this filth into their lives.

How very interesting that the very example of white privilege and female suppression , Father Pfleger, has a free ride in this church. Hearing a Catholic priest refer to a woman with venomous disrespect is hardly a ground-breaking experience. To those of us who reject male privilege, his hypocrisy is obvious. To those of us familiar with the world-wide suppression of indigenous people by the Catholic church, his hypocrisy is obvious. I wonder quite literally who Father Pfleger thinks he is?

I just watched this video and I realized something. I’m not sure who the first choice was for the Republican leadership but they ended up with McCain. Assume for the sake of argument they would have preferred someone more conservative. They ended up with someone more moderate and McCain probably has the best chance of winning. My point is the process, and not the leadership chose the best candidate.

In spite of the punditry stating otherwise, Hillary will be our nominee. And she is a centrist with the best chance of winning the White House. The Democratic leadership should take a look at what happened with McCain and get off this unrealistic notion Obama is still a viable candidate. This long election process has revealed to us the amazing candidate Hillary, clearly not the choice of the DNC. The Democratic leadership needs to stop looking this gift horse in the mouth if they want the presidency. The RNC are rallying behind McCain. Its time for the DNC to rally behind Clinton. Perhaps they are doing so behind the scenes that is, if they have not gone totally mad.

It’s particularly shocking to see a priest representing himself as part of the Catholic Church make such offensive remarks because Catholics in Ireland and many from Scotland as well, were sold into slavery in the 1600s by the dictates of England’s Queen Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell, because they were Catholic.

So, as a Scots-Irish descendent of a people who suffered hideous abuses for their Catholic religion, I’m truly and deeply offended by Black Liberation Theology. Using religion to espouse hatred has been the source of the worst crimes against humanity in history. On the basis of his 20-year-association in this church alone, Barack Obama is unacceptable to me as the President of the United States.

I called the Vicar for Priests office- they are the folks who are in charge of disciplining priests. She tells me that Bishop George is aware of Pfleger and the best move is to voice concerns to Pfleger himself and to the Vicar for priests.

The approach I used with sister is that I understand the Church’s option for the poor and also believe that the Vatican put a stop to priests teaching liberation theology because of the violence it promotes. I am sure Fr has done remarkable work for the poor blh blh blh but I believe he is doing great harm to the Church by his web prescence ranting and raving in Wright’s church. The Catholic Church has enough trouble with the aftermath of the child abuse scandal and we do not need Pfleger giving people mroe reasons to distrust the Church.

THIS PISSES ME OFF. My husbands Grandfather has spent his life in Joilet ILL preaching to a whole black church. HE is a 70 something white guy. Their church is a christian church. He is a republican and is a loving helpful man. He has taken in many black family in need. His members are so upset that the media are acting like all black churches in Chicago are like this. I am upset that Trinity blasts “white people” when our grandpa, a white man, has built up a church in a black community, mentored a young black man to take over and is now preaching at another developing church on the south side of Chicago. Jeremiah Wright — “one of the greatest Biblical scholars”?

Oh yes. Of course. I mean, you can’t open up a book by Bart Ehrman or John Dominic Crossan without seeing at least a dozen citations of the works of Jeremiah Wright.

Why, just the other day I was wondering how to translate an unusual phrase in Koine Greek. So I brought it to the attention of my old prof at UCLA. “Wow,” he said, “this is WAY beyond me. You better put in a call to Jeremiah Wright. He’s the only expert in America who’s on top of this stuff.”

And everyone probably already knows about Wright’s brilliant work in reconstituting the recently-rediscovered Gospel of Judas. “If not for Jeremiah Wright,” said National Geographic, “we never would have had a proper translation of this ancient coptic text.”

Pfleger is a German name/word and means caretaker/male nurse. Not very fitting.

The reference to Tip brought me back to old fashioned values those of us over 40 or so were able to experience. I’m 51 and grew up with TIP in NY as one of our statesmen. And even though there were always two parties there was a sense of decency and diplomacy and that has followed through less and less over the years. It is the one thing entirely missing this year. The republicans always accused the dems of problems with “values” and this year I totally agree with them when it comes to ob.

That I am PROUD of Hillary and that it has been entirely unwavering and uncontroversial and my comfort increases by her words and deeds is what it is all about. I would likewise find some comfort in of all people a republican this year although that has never crossed my mind till 2008 – and I was born in 1957! The one thing I am certain of – Barack Obama and I have absolutely no shared values.

And I campaigned for McGovern and volunteered for Peace Groups and marched on Washington and lived up to every liberal label there is… but I was always, even when a rebel, a proud American and Christian.

I was also married to a Jew for 27 years… and he wants absolutely nothing to do with Obama either.

Nor does my 30 year old ivy league elitist daughter who speaks arugala fluently!

And we are all very concerned about ob’s little rat boat that is so full now it is starting to sink.

Wright, Jr.

Some months ago the Farrahkan article came under scrutiny. Why was the church attended by presidential contender and headed by Barack Obama’s mentor publishing a favorable story on the controversial Reverend Louis Farrahkan in its magazine?

Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam is best known for making disparaging remarks targeting Jews, whites and homosexuals. Farrakhan’s bigoted and anti-Semitic rhetoric has included statements calling whites “blue eyed devils” and Jews “bloodsuckers” that controlled the slave trade, the government, the media and various Black individuals and organizations.

In 2006, Reverend Farrakhan blamed Jews and Israel for the war in Iraq, for controlling Hollywood and for promoting what he considers immorality during his February Saviours’ Day address in Chicago.
Here are some quotes from the Trumpet Magazine article: An Empowerment Interview, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakahn. The magazine is published and edited by Reverend Wright’s daughter.

“When Minister Farrahkan speaks Black America listens. Minister Farrakhan will be remembered as one of the 20th and 21st century giants of the African American religion experience. His integrity and honesty have secured him a place in history.” – Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

“His leadership (Farrahkan) has evolved, and I believe the coming days will see him as a unifying force, calling real Christians, real Jews and real Muslims to come together on principles of truth and justice.”
– Father Michael L. Pfleger of St. Albans Church in Chicago

What are “real Christians, real Jews and real Muslims?” And who is Father Michael Pfleger? He is another longtime friend and mentor of Barack Obama and he is the activist Catholic priest from Chicago’s St. Sabina’s Church who joined with Jesse Jackson and his organization Operation Push in a rally in front of Chuck’s Gun shop, May 29, 2007, and exhorted the crowd to “drag” shop owner, John Riggio, from his shop “like a rat” and “snuff” him. The Reverend Pfleger went on to tell the crowd that legislators that vote against gun control legislation should be “snuffed” as well.

Would those legislators who should be “snuffed” include Rev. Pfleger’s good friend Barack Obama? Obama, in his recent remarks following the massacre of the students in North Illinois University said that he believes in the Second Amendment, but that there is plenty of room for added gun regulations. “There is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation,” Obama said, hardly a statement advocating strong gun control legislation.

But back to the Trumpet Magazine piece on Farrakhan, and Obama’s other good friend and mentor Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr. Reverend Wright has long been the subject of controversy. Obama was questioned about the article and his association with Reverend Wright following its publication. Obama issued the following statement:
“I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan. I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree.”

Like Obama’s now well-known “present” votes in the Illinois Senate, his statement by-passed a definitive reaction. Obama denounced Farrakhan, but he clearly refused to extricate himself from his association with Reverend Wright who is responsible for more gems such as:

Zionism has an element of “white racism” and the attacks on 9/11 were a consequence of violent American policies and proved that “people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West went on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns.”

Or this bit of history and innuendo: When [Obama’s] enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli to visit Colonel Ghadafi with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.”

On the subject of the presidential candidate’s continued relationship with Reverend Wright, Obama’s top campaign aide, David Axelrod, pointed out that Obama often has said that he and his minister sometimes disagree. Farrakhan, Axelrod said, is one of those instances.

But is Mr. Axelrod’s answer adequate? Would it be acceptable for Senator Obama to continue his association with a friend whose good buddy is a rapist, or a serial killer? Why a self-described bigot?

Senator Obama’s website prominently features both Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. and Father Michael Pfleger and their testimonials for Senator Obama.

There are others in Barack Obama’s coterie of questionable associates They include indicted slumlord Antoin “Tony” Rezko, the Obama campaign contributor whose fraud trial begins March 3, 2008, which may shed some light on the shady real estate deal involving Mr. and Mrs. Rezko and Senator and Mrs. Obama house and adjoining land purchase, and who knows what else.

Equally intriguing is Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, purported friends, also unapologetic former leaders of the 1960’s Weather Underground, America’s first homegrown left-wing terrorist group that planted bombs in the Capitol and the Pentagon in the 1970s. According to news reports, Obama has been to Ayers home and accepted a $200 contribution to his campaign.

Rashid Khalidi, the PLO activist who is the Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at Columbia University and head of that school’s Middle East Institute, is another Obama friend. In 2000, according to Ali Abunimah, a Hyde Park Palestinian-American activist, Professor Rashid Khalidi, a leading Palestinian-American advocate for a two-state solution and harsh critic of Israel, held a fundraiser in his home for Obama, who at the time was in the midst of what would prove an unsuccessful bid for the House of Representatives.

“He [Obama] came with his wife,” Abunimah said. “That’s where I had a chance to really talk to him. It was an intimate setting. He convinced me he was very aware of the issues [and] critical of U.S. bias toward Israel and lack of sensitivity to Arabs. … He was very supportive of U.S. pressure on Israel.”
Khalidi has been called a “blame-throwing Palestinian hack,” and has referred to Israel as the “occupiers” and calls AIPAC “the Zionist lobby.” He is also responsible for this assessment on Israel as a U.S. ally. According to Khalidi Israel is not a democratic ally but an “apartheid system in creation” and a destructive “racist” state. He has further accused Israel’s army of having “awful weapons of mass destruction – some supplied by the U.S. – that it has used in cities, villages and refugee camps.”
And of course there’s Senator Obama’s deep connection to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley of that illustrious Chicago dynasty who continues the legacy of his political family as boss of Chicago.

Alone, these associations might not seem as astonishing as they are when viewed collectively. But Senator Obama has based his entire campaign on the fact that he’s a new kind of politician. Making alliances with unsavory characters that are politically suitable to attain a politician’s goal is anything but new, and in these instances appear downright smarmy and certainly point to a lack of foresight and good judgment.

From a political standpoint, should Senator Obama secure the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination he is certain to find that his questionable alliances will leave him extremely vulnerable to the Republican slime machine who will find Obama, if nothing else, guilty by association. And with the Republican’s, that’s enough to end the hope of any Democratic candidate’s chances to make it to the White House. Just ask John Kerry.”

And what is hate from the mouth of any religious person…it is dangerous, illogical, inaccurate, and soulless. If Dobb’s assessment is correct, and I believe it is, Obama has been in his element in Rev Wright’s Church.

Did that video of Pfleiger make anyone else physically sick? It made me ill, mixed with disgust and extreme sadness. If this is the change Obama speaks of – instilling hatred and racial division – count me for McCain to defeat Obama in Nov. Never thought I would vote Republican in my life – wow, how things have changed.

Pfleger must have some demons in his soul to act like this. Not being a member of the RCC, it’s one of those things that make you go hmmm.

I’ve often noticed that Chicago is still terribly segregated when compared to other large US cities.

I’m not saying this kind of thing is the whole reason, but it seems to me, to go a long way toward explaining a few things about why people collect themselves as we tend to do here.

My western Chicago (within the city) neighborhood is mostly PR and Mexican, with a few gay and elderly of all ilks, and white working/middle class, mostly of the eastern European variety tossed in for good measure. Very few AA’s. (I realize that’s a weird way to point out demographics, but trying to encompass who’s here and what not.) Point is, Chicago is mainly divided in two ways:
1.) Skin color. Black vs. everyone else, and:
2.) Economics. The further west and south one goes, the poorer we get…until you hit the suburbs, then it all changes. (I’m not sure how. I don’t go to the suburbs.)

I don’t know why. The gangs of the 70’s and 80’s had lots to do with boundaries being set by different demographic bases as basic survival. There’s probably some element of gang turf wars still affecting these divisions…I don’t know.

Just rambling…and so blown away by this video, that I’m probably not making a whit of sense.

What kind of Christianity is this?

I am Irish Catholic and i go to church every week and one of the tenet of my faith is you have to believe in forgiveness and work hard to find forgiveness in your heart and extend it to others. This Christianity that i am listening to is an angry Christianity based on revenge not love.

Moreover, my grand grandfather came to this country with nothing. He worked in the open mines of Western Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky. Back then, slaves didn’t work in coal mines because slaves were worth more than Irish. He worked hard, built for himself a tiny place in the sun and 2 generations later, his grandson graduated high school, went to college and became a lawyer. All his clients were dirt poor Irish. They had nothing to pay him with other than buckets of coal. So, where are these damn privileges that my grandfather and his father enjoyed that this damn ignorant priest talks about?

Give me a goddamn break. If this elections is going to be about reparation, you will have a rebellion on your hands. Not only he is going to lose, the democratic party is going to be in deep deep troubles and broken in multiple pieces. Don’t fool yourself folks, this Pfledger guy is talking about reparation. And mark my words, many are going to come out of the woodwork and claim that we need to pay for our ancestors’ mistakes. This might work on those who have something on their conscience, but it ain’t gonna work on me ’cause my conscience is clean and i sleep like a baby.
