Scorched Earth, Obama Style

Joan Walsh, executive editor-in-chief of Salon, appeared on Tweety’s Hardball yesterday with BO supporter Joe Madison, a radio talk show host. Chris brought up the kerfluffle over the RFK reference last week. Joan tried to remind folks it was a rather innocuous statement and then went on to say the Obama campaign is and was pushing the story by sending the story, along with Keith Olbermann’s “special comment” to press.

Joe disagreed and said no presidential candidate has been targeted as Obama, that there is a sense he is in “the crosshairs.” Apparently misspeaking, or using the word “assassination” anywhere near the understood presence of BO is completely unacceptable.

Joan said the pattern of demonizing the Clintons and treating them “like monsters” will ruin the Democratic Party. Not surprisingly, Joe disagrees.

Then Joe said Hillary should have apologized to OBAMA AND HIS FAMILY for her remarks. When Joan replied Hillary said nothing about Obama, Joe firmly stated she owed Obama an apology. Absolutely amazing. Now Hillary needs to apologize to the Obama family for using a non-vulgar word not about Obama and not in his presence.

Wow, that skin is wafer-thin. Even a hint that a word deemed unacceptable by Obama or his dementors might reach the Obama ether is grounds for abject public apology. Never mind context, never mind the word itself and never mind the “audacity of hope” in other people.

In today’s article at Salon A New Low in Clinton Bashing, Joan says it is time to stop bashing the Clintons, and offers some examples of Obama dirty tricks.

One other thing. And it really struck me. Joe says, seriously and with great import, that Hillary has lost herself the VP slot because of this. Since I doubt that would be offered anyway, what is the point here? And if it were offered, wouldn’t HRC be more effective in the Senate anyway?

All of which begs the question: if this campaign is sooooo over with the healer, magi, Gandalf, Sun King, just waiting in the wings to step forward, lay on hands and make everything new again, WHY are the attacks on Clinton so prolonged and bitter? If she’s really out, then shouldn’t the “healing” be flowing like warm sunshine from BO’s hands by now??

I’m laughing my ass off here. As if Hillary would be caught standing next to this loser, carry him to victory and then do all his work so he can preen and prance around and take credit. What arrogant asses the surrogates of that arrogant ass are.

Come to think of it, I haven’t heard the race card played on TV in at least 16 hours. I’m sure they will catch up tomorrow. No sense of not pissing off ALL white voters.

Comment by Uppity | 2008-05-30 00:05:21

Besides, why would hillary be a bridesmaid to that medocre man when all she has to do is watch him go down in flames and then run herself in 2012.

If the Clintons walk away from the Democratic Party….WHO COULD BLAME THEM ?
Thanks for the post….I could hardly finish listening to that idiot supporting Obama…Obama has had a sickening effect on the psyche of the electorate. This bizarr irrationality has become infective. I was listening to NPR last night as they were covering a sports Broohaha over the AA coach of the New York Mets who has decided that recent Media criticism of him is now motivated by Racism….
That’s WRIGHT….THE EVIL CRACKER MEDIA IS RACIST CAUSE THEY CRITICIZE THE EXALTED AA COACH….OH BROTHER !

Hillary should go on air and say that considering the fact that she, herself, has received death threats throughout this entire election season, most of them from Obama supporters, 2 of them posted blazingly on Obama’s website where 2 BO supporters were discussing wanting to slit her throat and throw her in the Allegheny River, not to mention Keith Olberman’s direct threat of violence - and again this week where she is shown tied to railroad tracks with a train coming - the accusations by the Obama Camp as well as MSNBC are slightly hypocritical and profoundly ridiculous.

Comment by HillaryMadamePresident | 2008-05-30 07:40:09

not to mention Keith Olberman’s direct threat of violence

I find it very interesting that Keith apologized for his remark and that was that. Hillary apologized for a remark that was taken totally out of context and he makes a special comment (his equivalent of Federal case) of it.
Rupert Murdock has predicted a Dem landslide with Obama elected, in Nov. I honestly do not believe that. Politicians and Media people always forget about the silent majority.

Who has been more threatened this year?

I saw the T shirt put out by Obama supporters with a picture of Hillary and “HO” right next to her name.

Frankly I would not be shocked if Hillary became an Independent. Now DNC owes her $$ along with other funding. Would also not be surprised if Obama gets an AA to run against her in next senate run so as to drum her out of the party.

Folks, as Obama likes to say…you ain’t see nothin’ yet. Wait ’till I get Murdoch’s endorsement.

This is one of the great meltdowns in political history.

The Phleger rant is going to be the last straw for many bitter whites.
He spoke of entitlement how we’re the beneficiary to all the generations before. That we need to give up our trust funds and other monies. In other words “Reparations”
He spoke of white supremacy. He mocked Hillary and all Clinton supporters as racists.
This rant is far worse than the Wright speeches.

This was a slap in the face by Obama’s church.

There is no going back now.

Phlegers rant is the end of Obama!!!!!

Comment by Patrick Walker | 2008-05-30 08:29:30

There is a threat to this. Simply Barack losing will make it very difficult for Hillary to run in 2012 since you will have half the voters and all the leadership of the party finding some way to blame her for his loss.

In a way, this is Hillary’s best shot at winning.

We are going to support, raise money for and vote for McCain and then redouble our efforts for her immediately after he (McCain) is sworn in.

this is what they do. ask for Hillary to apologize everytime OBAMA
or one of his close supporters does something wrong.
They also say that, for example, Pfleger or Wright are being
criticized for 2 minutes out of a lifetime of good deeds.
and then they list the deeds, many which received funds from
Obama’s connections. (like they would cut Hillary a break for a misstep.)
there is a pattern here. it is dictated by the Obama campaign,
by Axelrove, it’s all phony. but we have to answer back.
they are running scared over on HuffPo, sending the paid
Obama bloggers into overtime.
the video of Pfleger is factual, so is the may 11 article in the

back down. never surrender.

They are prone to blaming others for their addictions and they will go to any lengths to achieve their high.

If fortunate enough to beat their habit, they may relapse at any time. Theirs is a disease.

They will doubtless gather in Denver and declare Bill and Hillary their enablers; more blame will follow as their life becomes a vicious cycle.

Exactly - if BO is the nominee and she the VP - I will still vote McCain b/c if something were to happen to Obama (& I sincerely would NOT want that to happen to any President no matter who he/she is) Hillary would get blamed no matter what proof was available to the contrary, therefore any Presidency obtained that way would still make her an impotent President. In addition, if she is the VP, when Obama’s scandal(s) break (& they will)and he is impeached, talk will be that she planted it all in order to become Pres. The VP also has no real power - imo it’s a total no win situation and position.

I can’t wait for all of the rich white kids who voted for Obama to wake up and realize that they now “owe” black people something. That they should give up their I-Pods, cell phones and fancy clothes because their ancestors have inherited their place in life at the expense of slaves. These college students have no idea what they are doing. HOPE! CHANGE! They were swept up in all this hype and now the facts are coming out

Comment by James | 2008-05-29 12:35:22

I know what you mean when you say you “can’t wait” but you shouldn’t even joke. I don’t want to see our children with chains on them being marched to Africa to be sold as slaves.

Comment by Chaos | 2008-05-29 12:21:18

And if you think the proud white race is going to be enslaved, think again.

Comment by Mr X | 2008-05-29 11:22:13

The change that Obama talks about is the liberation of blacks at the expense of white people. All those white people that voted for him are in for a rude awakening when they realise that “change” is all about the removal of white power into the hands of blacks. This is the new coalition you’ve been hearing about. They are not interested in equality.

You have to wonder how you can hate on white people and not be a racist. For 20 years, there’s no way anyone could have stayed in that church unless they’re ok with racism and are themself racist.

Frankly, it explains where all the hate comes from in the Obama campaign. I’m from a minority (not black) and we had to stop blaming the majority for all our problems. It made things MUCH worse. Once we started addressing issues without resorting to putting people in groups and saying those groups were to blame, things started improving. But from the looks of it, things are about to get MUCH MUCH worse for the US. Obama can’t stop himself from classifying people.

Comment by terri | 2008-05-29 13:13:26

Bunch of very sick stuff. Unfortunately so many on the far left agree with these hateful pastors and think we should hand Obama the WH because he is black. I’ve said all along, these people do not want equality any more than the evangelical christians. They want DOMINANCE. They do not want a democracy–they want a black Tyranny.

Comment by Mr.Murder | 2008-05-30 01:12:51

The topic of the Obama kerfuffle over the Hillary reference to RFK needs to be put in proper perspective for several reasons.

It was done on a Memorial Day weekend, as an attempt to hijack sensibilities in the holiday news cycle.

It was done with disregard for RFK Jr.’s own opinion with how it was said.

It was done as some kind of attempt to turn it into a smear against Senator Clinton, as someone who must have hoped to incite an assassin, with some kind of racial retribution overtones implied.

Barack’s own campaign sent out talking points of such a nature.

Bobby Kennedy is an Icon in our mythology, Barack does not measure to that stature. For him to try and claim some kind of moral equivalence is immoral.

As for the historical record, there remains much background in the death of both Kennedy brothers that was essentially unheeded. Their brother recovers from a stroke at this time, and regardless of political differences one would have expected better of Obama than trying to use their experiences as cheap ploy, as Carville notes.

So the Obama campaign dishonored Memorial Day weekend as best it could by advancing the story to their aims.

This fundamentally discolors the holiday’s purpose, an affront to those who have loss to mourn or recall.

This also disrespects RFK’s own efforts, whose historic speech on the night of MLK’s killing in Memphis, given by Bobby from within Indiana, welded the legacy he went on to forge to that of King Jr.’s in the assertion that humanity shares in its loss of great leaders as one would lose their brother.

The Memorial Day weekend is about remembrance, but to have RFK’s name brought up with it brings up the loss of his brother, President John F.Kennedy, as well.

In the past a man who was part of the security detail in Dallas was someone I had opportunity to meet, for a brief time. There was a BBC special being aired upon the assassination, on witnesses meeting untimely ends, on people who claimed more than one shooter were there.

A friend believed this to be quite interesting, he disliked Kennedy’s politics, and it carried to a dislike of him personally.

We went to a video outlet and got the BBC Documentary. Went back and watched it with others, he shared with us a bit of a story.
The coworker of his worked in Dallas when JFK was shot. He didn’t just work there, he saw much of the day’s events happen. He was contracted to be part of the Secret Service’s help for the day.

The Secret Service actually hired a large part of SCI people for the work.

In fact, the Documentary film showed him at the airport in Dallas, dressed crisply, black and white reel footage. My friend would point and grin at his appearances, long a coworker of his in the prior two decades. They were driving along the motorcade, quite familiar with the town and the local cops, part of the help.

The documentary went on to suggest more than one person was involved in his killing, as a later Congressional hearing found evidence to be true n the 70s.

The Secret Service detail subcontractors were staffers for SCI. Services Corporation International, presently the largest funeral service chain in America, was getting its start in Texas with the ability to buy up regional competition and downsize the technical aspects of preparation, allowing them to focus upon more efficient return and buying market share to the front end of service industry.

Ironically, the man who did the restorative work on JFK’s head was one of his coworkers, who flew to Bethesda with the President

So the Secret Service employed the guys working to protect President Kennedy and these were the same guys who provided his two caskets(he changed one from Dallas to Md). You knew they could dress the part in three piece suits, hires who were themselves Directors and/or Embalmers, all of whom were pretty familiar with the Dallas PD and several other characters of interest in the sage surrounding the events there.

Anyways, after my friend shared what he was told by the man, that JFK was driven “into a crossfire” among the many items he cared to share, with the film it raised a sad kind era of the American chapter. That was the dawn of our greatest days in a lot of ways.

When I briefly met the man, we did discuss much of the day. My greatest interest was in the Warren Commission. Did he ever say anything?

He said he was “never asked” and that he “decided it would a good idea not to say anything.” That was my way of taking it that he was given due reason to withold talk. It seems strange the Commission would go so short as to not even talk with many of the people under contract for the President’s protection.

But he did confirm that they drove “into a crossfire” and that “they had people all over the place, guns were going off everywhere.”

He worked decades for SCI. That company was GWB’s number four career contributor going into 2000. They own big chain funeral homes in Florida and Texas where the Bush family can get enough swing votes to steal close races, even if they have to enroll deceased voters to get it. Cheney shot a Texas funeral bigwig in the face on a hunting trip, at the time there were some inquiries to missing bodies from Katrina, and several Florida scandals. The same interests were subcontracting the Katrina DMORT efforts for the most part.

Maybe someone can ask Sen.Spector about that since he’s the only living member of the Warren Commission.

These days, the media can take you out and not have need to kill you if you are a politicos of any degree. There’s still DC Madames and other little people to take care of the old fashioned way. The big dogs simply get taken down by the 24/7 news cycle, a different kind of bullet works to its effects for the powers that be in America. Now if you live in Pakistan it could be another story at this time…

This could be seen personally in the Dumond/Huckabee saga, and how the news in essence carried a blind eye to the Hunting of a President, or even helped go after Clinton personally while his family members had to deal with the Dumond rape trial.
The way they throw RFK’s name around and try to tangle this should certainly be addressed. Heaven forbid that his great legacy gets assumed by someone lacking to the extent Obama does. If Teddy passed anytime soon they’d try and pass the mantle onto Barack until the Rep.Kennedy gets a bit older.

Obama doesn’t deserve to step into that void. He never served like most of the Kennedy brothers did in the armed forces. He never took stands past the point of expediency either.

He lacks the warmth and insight any of those brothers had in addition to his lack of background. He’s an empty suit, what Ken Laye is to Big Energy, Obama is to Community Organizing. No wonder he voted for Cheney’s Energy policy while gas is through the roof. In fact Obama’s campaign director is very similar to Keny Laye in his own PR profile for big power firms. That’s nothing like the men who spoke to many American’s dreams from a perspective of sacrificie like that of two deceased Kennedy brothers.

Someone needs to say it, and since they are using the names nonchalantly, it would be my preference spoke truth to power on the topic.

It was important to let some time pass between Memorial Day and having said this, perhaps it has been said too late to draw attention now. All apologies, if that is the case.

If you really wanted to claim an allegiance with Bobby on these topics you’d probably have brought real justice and true closure to their passing. Instead of using some patsy and shameful commission for a cover up, then trying to draw similar analagies today for expediency’s sake.

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2008-05-30 10:34:55

Thanks for saying it Mr. Murder.

Senator Spector was the one to profer the single bullet theory, according to what I have read on the subject.

I agree that BO’s highjacking of the memorial holiday is at best short sited and at worst a indication of what is to come.

If BO had an ounce of respect for the JFK, Bobby Kennedy and all the fine souls we on honor with the observance of Memorial Day, he might have fired the person who sent out the / escalated the smear in public.

BO is not qualified.

I’ve never heard of Joe Madison. Now that I’ve heard him - what a putz! Ken Starr would be long gone if the Clintons were killers.

Small wonder I don’t watch MSNBC anymore.

My dogs are more insightful and way cuter.

Bill O’Reilly went off on MSNBC (especially Mr. Potato Head) tonight for pandering to Oblowme and skewering HRC and I found myself cheering him on.

These are strange days.

Comment by Pittsburgh4Hillary08 | 2008-05-30 09:37:05

yes its strange our friends are now the republicians and their media lol I tell the Obama supporters in my life that it is forcing all those Republicians issues in my head. They know I am boycotting the Racist Sexist pig and that would be Obama to you young kids who are still dependent on your mama and daddy.

They keep skewering Hill cuz BO cannot tolerate any competition- he has only been involved in races where he eliminated all comers and this one was s’posed to be the same. They will not give an inch on anything- lets see if it holds on Sat- I hope not

Did you notice that man gravely stating over and over there was “a pattern” insinuating that Hillary was responsible for random crap like some magazine in New Mexico and a bad joke from Mike Huckabee? She should apologize for those too maybe? Ridiculous.

Obama isn’t going to make it to August
This is one of the great meltdowns in political history.

===

If this comes true, can we meet somewhere around a massive bonfire, smear our naked selves with some primal substance and dance till sunrise?

I mean, for real?

Comment by Pittsburgh4Hillary08 | 2008-05-30 09:42:18

You can count on me to do that I cannot wait until he is destroyed. I have never hated a Politician like this in my life. He’s a dirtball who NEEDS to be stopped.

Did you see Chris Matthew’s face when Joan was speaking? I think reality came down and smacked him in the face. He just then realized how everyone thinks him and the media are a joke. THAT was priceless. I think what we have here folks is a part of the DNC and the media that are just as out of touch as Bush is. They have NO CLUE how dumb they sound. I am still laughing.

On the bright side: this episode gives Hillary an excuse not to accept the veep slot on an Obama ticket!

Joe Madison has a radio show called “The Black Eagle.”. It is on in the DC metro area in the morning. His listeners would be very comfortable at Trinity.
I emailed him after his appearance on MSNBC. I told him how disapponited I was that he was allowing obama to use him as a tool to drive a wedge between Hillary and the black community. Joe replied. He said he was not an Obama supporter and he was neutral. He said all politicans will say and do anything to get elected (we do agree on that point). He said he was asked to come on the show to represent what his listeners were saying.
The obama people have very successfully used black radio to spread obama’s divisive message. Can you image if hillay used white radio to show how obama can’t get the white working class vote?

WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

Comment by John | 2008-05-30 07:22:21

I used to listen to Joe Madison on his radio show in the 1990s. At one point he went on what he called a “Hunger Strike,” I can’t remember what the issue was. I do know that during the “Hunger Strike” he drank soup, milkshakes, and a few other things that for some reason didn’t count as “food” in Joe Madison’s World. He lost a lot of weight before he went off the “Hunger Strike,” to the best of my knowledge he didn’t achieve the goal of the “Strike” though.

Madison is typical of Obama’s black supporters- pretend to be neutral while trashing Hillary and pumping up Obama. He’s a joke. Was then, is now.

Comment by usedmeat | 2008-05-30 08:03:03

One other thing. And it really struck me. Joe says, seriously and with great import, that Hillary has lost herself the VP slot because of this. Since I doubt that would be offered anyway, what is the point here? And if it were offered, wouldn’t HRC be more effective in the Senate anyway?

That any Obama camp follower would put this out there, Senator Clinton as V P. Proves that they are either liars or hipocrits.
I all the Obama campaign accusations are true, that Hillary is a hoodwinking racist, then why would they want her any where near the campaign.

Comment by typical irishman | 2008-05-30 08:08:24

Someone said that all the Obama voters were people who thought Obama would get them everything they want for free. All they would have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the good life at the government’s expense. Free food, free housing, free medical, free education, government jobs, just one great big happy family with no resonsibilities. No worries whatsoever. I suppose that is the reason they all think he is the messiah who has come to establish heaven on earth for the entire cult. In short, all us working class dumbasses who work because we think we should pay our own way and we like the feeling of accomplishment, would be slaves to the Obama voters who think they should get everything for free and he is going to get it for them. And they are all drinking his medicine show hadacol.

Comment by bart | 2008-05-30 08:09:29

Joe figures Obama has won his ice cream party and Hillary, in pique, just threw away her “opportunity” to nibble the sprinkles. Bad, bad Hillary.

Please. I really hope she is no where near a VP slot on an Obama ticket. I’d much rather see her in the senate where she could actually do stuff.

In my mind, Joe saying she has “lost” the VP slot is tantamount to saying she has lost her opportunity to attend TUCC.

Comment by Bonita | 2008-05-30 08:58:24

I think it is Clinton who should be worried about her safety. It’s the Obama campaign pushing the envelop on he’s not safe. Bull crap. It’s Clinton who isn’t safe, especially with all Obama’s cultish followers. As MO says about barama, we Clinton supporters must be vigilant in stopping this kind of talk against our candidate.

Comment by Mel | 2008-05-30 09:01:15

This is a blatent excuse by the Obama campaign and especilly David Axelrod that he is going to astroturf this! You watch, in the next few days, a bang will go off at an Obama rally, staged like the fainters were, to make it out that Obama has been threatened!

Obama’s campaign is on the line here, $300 million and can’t close the deal, they are desperate and will sink to any low to win!

What happens if Obama loses, Axelrod is gone from political life, having an unlimited bankroll and can’t win, he is gone! These people are desperate and expect something to happen, and know it was an Axelrod staged happening!

For anyone to play on what Hillary said and the top was exactly, staying in the race, she talked about Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton as well, making the emails Axelrod sent out bogus and for a reason, to stage an event, to use their spin!

Don’t fall for it!

Thanks, LisaB. I don’t watch Hardball, anymore. However, Joan Walsh is my new hero. The look of dismay and disgust on her face was palpable. Joe Madison sounded like a kook and Chris even had a look of distaste on his face. I agree with every single thing Joan said…it’s nice to hear a voice of reason on cable news outlets.

I have no idea what it would involve, but it would be terrific if a third party can form and if Hillary can run as an Independent this year. Her career in the Senate would be trash but stepping back into the Senate and quietly rubber stamping the next administration’s proposals would do nothing to send a message to the DNC. This campaign should be the last straw. Years ago, the same candidaate usually had, not always, but usually, had the Democratic and Liberal Party lines on the ballot. Hillary needs to take the party someplace else in order for the ideals of the real Democratic Party to survive. Obama’s links with unsavory characters continue to emerge. Did you see the earmarks he gave to this “Father Pflegler” when he (Obama) was a U.S. Senator and the contributions from the same Father Pflegler? And then there’s Michelle’s famous “big raise” for her hospital job, a job where she already earned six figures. And then there’s the matter of Obama’s Illinois State Senate records. Too bad there isn’t a “Scott McClellan” to document those lost years while Obama toiled for the Chicago Combine. The Democratic Party has sold its soul and its surprising at the names of the Party Elders on the list of Obama supporters. Makes you wonder what’s wrong with Ted Kennedy, George McGovern, etc., not to mention Nancy Pelosi. A very, very united front to promote a morally bankrupt candidate.

Comment by yo mama | 2008-05-30 09:28:21

Well, we know what’s wrong with Ted Kennedy. Anyone who has watched Grey’s Anatomy for the past couple of weeks understands that it was probably the tumor talking, when Kennedy made the irrational endorsement for BO.

But how do you explain the rest of them? They can’t all have tumors that cloud their thinking.

What the senator from Dewars, as I affectionately call Teddy, forgets is that he fought the same kind of fight for the same reasons as HRC.

Scorched earth is right. They now want to drive her out of the Senate.

What is most appalling to me is that they can see for themselves just what this is doing to the Democratic Party. Yet, they do not care.

They are intent upon obliterating her.

I would bet the farm that Pelosi pre-emptively declares BO as the winner next week. His donors at the SF fundraiser where he made his “clinging to guns and religion” gaffe, are in the Speaker’s district if I’m not mistaken. So the big spenders who applauded his comments in SF are the same folks who have her on speed dial.
As I’ve always replied when my activist mother (who goes back to the McGovern campaign, by the way) tells me to write my congresscritter. “Ma, they only listen to those who write them checks, the bigger the check, the better they listen.”

Comment by llamajockey | 2008-05-30 10:35:16

Pelosi and Reid have been absolute disasters. They sold out the party to make nice with BushCo so they could push the hated near treasonous McCain/Kennedy “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” atrocity. Even after it failed they have tried numerous undemocratic tactics to have it passed piecemeal. Each time envoking massive public outrage. Now Pelosi’s leadership polls as bad or worse than Dubya.

Under Pelosi the Hispanic Caucus has been allowed to run wild making their own throughly dishonest race baiting/hustling allegations.

Joe Madison is a frequent guest on Lou Dobbs. Dobbs would have called Madison on his comment in a heartbeat.

Joe Madison is usually pretty level headed and shows a willingness to be unPC. I think like Tavis Smilley he is catching hell for not being absolutely totally in the bag for Obama from some of the shriller voices in the AA community. Smilley as a Clinton supporter and fellow Hoosier took a break from talk radio. The last time I caught Madison on Dobbs, the strain and wear and tear was starting to show.
