The Moment of Truth

TO HILLARY AND BILL CLINTON:

I have written to you before and I post regularly on my journal: The Heraclitan Fire and at No Quarter

It seems to me that the fix is in, I think that Mr. Obama has already been chosen by the Democratic party ‘elders’ as their nominee. You know that this will be a disaster for the Democrats in November and will likely lead to John McCain’s election.

I know you both are lifelong Democrats and I know your first instinct is to help the Democrats , no matter how badly you have been abused. I am writing to you to ask you to consider another option.

The Democratic spinelessness and cowardice in regards to the Iraq war is spectacularly evident and Democrats are disgusted by the performance of Pelosi & Co. From what I am seeing and hearing there is a tremendous groundswell for creating a third party in this country. The time is right and you two are the perfect political team to do this.

I know you are hesitant about abandoning the Democrats but consider that they have been co-opted by Bill Ayers’ and Barack Obama’s New Bolshevik cadres. In fact there is no Democratic party any longer. What is left is a cult very similar to the cults that followed Hitler, Lenin and Mao.

Perhaps that seems a bit too far, yet we have all seen the skillful use of propaganda to camouflage lies, the selection of a scapegoat to blame all failures on, the incantations to belief that permeates the Obama ‘movement’ [sic].

The combination of power starved, ineffectual party ‘leaders’ – who have all envied your actual accomplishments, while they were never able to do anything; and the hijacking of the caucuses, the party apparatus and the threats and intimidation of party delegates; should all be indicators that something very, very bad is going on.

Indeed, I submit to you that the die is cast: the so-called Democratic party has been taken over by a group of far leftist/fascist radicals who are determined to foist their version of ‘democracy’ on the entire country.

You may think that I am being paranoid – and perhaps I am, nevertheless what is true is that the Democratic party no longer has a place for anyone named “Clinton”.

However, we who understand that, in the long run, substance trumps style; we who have waited – forever – it seems, for a candidate/party/zeitgeist that truly represents our fervent dreams. For us now is the moment, now is the time to rise up and declare ourselves, now is the point in the space-time continuum when we can grab hold of Archimedes’ lever and move the earth.

I would say that this is a “once in a generation opportunity” but it is not, this chance only comes along once in a hundred years or more.

Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton – you have the intelligence, you have the experience, you have the political knowledge, you have the influence, you have the organization and you have the will of the people.

I know it will be hard, I know it will take time you could be using for your own private lives, I know it will take treasure and dedication and fierce resolve… I know it will take much, much more than you ever expected to be asked for… but, nevertheless, I am asking – and millions of Americans are asking: Take us away from these false ‘democrats’ help us create, organize and grow a new, truly, democratic party. A party for people with brains and guts and sense – a party for Americans not fanatics, for Americans not bigots, for Americans not cowards.

We’re ready – we’re more than ready, only say the word and we are there.

Craig Della Penna

I am in agreement and will back Hillary and Bill all the way the heck with the DNC they have divorced Hillary and are in the tank for Obama. They have even thrown this primary as far as I am concerned Hillary and Bill can start strongly in opposition and win this election witout the DNC.

Comment by Debi | 2008-05-29 17:35:39

This is the best suggestion I have heard yet. I am pleading also with the CLinton’s to consider this opition. I understand the loyality to the Party, however, the Democratic party we all knew and loved is no more. This is not the party my father or grandfather voted for.

Comment by morris1030 | 2008-05-29 20:38:22

Change? Obama can’t get a local law abated in Congress without dealing with the corridors of power and the layers of fixers and committee heads, chairs of party groups, and he’ll fail totally unless the party hacks are dealt with and “deals” struck all the time. Pelosi is the ultimate insider who wants to control the power base of the party and can only accomplish this with an Obama and the left left baggage he brings with [and owes] them. And last, but not least, trashing the Clintons Brand and legacy.

Change? You’re kidding yourself.

This diary is a lot more.. expressive than I would have put it. But I know what my father says about not leaving the party, the party left him - it is the same for me.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-05-29 19:24:50

debi — Hillary has to go along with this. What choice does she have? The Democratic Party has dismissed her just as they have dismissed the rest of us. Would she get their blessings to run for the Senate again? I doubt it. She has somehow offended the wicked witch of the west — Pelosi and she is done in the party. I want to see her run as an Independent. As Lou Dobbs said yesterday this is the rumor. I know we will all support her because she would be doing this to save our Democracy. God bless the Clintons –

Comment by morris1030 | 2008-05-29 20:47:20

Pelosi, or the Mme.de Farge of the new Demcratic Party has entirely ruined the Party and after the treatment given the Clinton’s, it’s time to realize that they have consciously gone about trashing the Clinton Brans.

Pelosi is venal, and the Party will not recover as it will be run from the neo left, the left left and any and all hangers on that go with this group.

We have all been insulted and rejected. Manipulated and lied to as we watch the charade of the Roolz. An avoidable situation that was created and then left to fester without resolution so that it has come to the 50% scandal we now witness as the “offering”.

States like S Caroina, Iowa, and New Hampshire also voted against agreed upon primary dates without consequence.

The Democratic Party is in Hell.

Comment by morris1030 | 2008-05-29 21:04:40

I think we all have to do some hard thinking about an Independent Party that can have meaning. Without fiancial backing and strong will this is almost always a failure.

But an alternative must be found.

The Democratic Party as we knew it has murdered itself.

Comment by Liz burns | 2008-05-29 18:53:46

Count me in!!! I’m only ashamed I didn’t suggest it myself. i have been a lifelong democrat, who decided this month to switch part affiliation to Independent. While I didn’t strongly feel McCain is the best person for the job, I can no longer call myself a Democrat I am ashamed and appalled at the New DNC’s powers that be. I will not vote for any of the clinton opposers, and I especially hold extreme contempt for the cowards who switched their vote from Hillary to Obama. I will eagerly campaign for Hillary and I strongly urge her to please give the people the option to continue to support her in November. Bill and Hillary, the DNC abandoned you both and we, the American public do not support them any longer. Start a Revolutionb TODAY, and we will truly make history with this year’s election!!!

Comment by haypops | 2008-05-29 20:01:08

Comment by Patrick Walker | 2008-05-29 17:33:04

It would be a mistake for the Clintons to appear pouting over her “loss” but then again there is nothing really requiring them to support Obama.

The Clintons should help Congressional candidates in the election, just not Obama. According to Brazile et al., Obama doesn’t need her or her supporters at all.

The Clintons could spend their time helping others then.

Comment by scientist | 2008-05-29 18:07:22

Yes, right Donna Brazile! The one who threatened to leave her status (if not the party), the one who insisted on the “vote of the people should be determening the vote of the superdelegates” and etc… when it was not looking too good for Senator Obama. Donna Brazile …the one who continously repeats that she is still uncommitted. Interesting!!

Comment by bigkitty | 2008-05-29 18:12:50

No.

Hillary has won this election, far and square.

She is fighting for the integrity of the electoral process, no less.

And no matter what happens, it doesn’t go away.

I really wish TPTB, such as they are, could see the big picture.

They can’t.

Comment by Gloria | 2008-05-29 20:23:08

Frankly, are there many Congressional candidates worth any support at this point??? I’m not impressed with what I see here in CD-2 NM…Richardson’s pick is an oil man in bed with polluters and his primary rival also pushed an expensive welfare handout to Richard Branson, who hasn’t even signed on the dotted line for this spaceport nonesense.

Udall, maybe. He’s held his endorsement so far.

A bought and sold Democratic Congress won’t help us.

I say, punish this party and stay home.

Comment by TJ | 2008-05-29 20:41:09

You may be right. They would call her a sore loser. I don’t want her to campaign for BO at all. Downticket would be good. Better yet-Maybe she’ll pull off the nom!

Comment by Betty | 2008-05-29 20:41:25

It would be a mistake for the Clintons to appear pouting over her “loss”

- WHY? Because , some one, oh I don’t know maybe the press, her colleagues, might say something mean or nasty about her?

She owes nothing to “appearances”, she doesn’t have to “appear” any way. She is, THE LADY IS.

And needs to prove nothing to you. And as far as congressional candidates go, if they want her support, let them switch parties.

Comment by BJinChicago | 2008-05-30 02:27:32

Reconsider your position. I will not vote Democratic
in the fall if Hillary is not the POTUS nominee,
because doing so would condone the actions of the
party. Anyone who did not speak up against this negative primary campaign is not worth my vote. In my state that means Dick Durbin can kiss his senate seat goodbye.

It’s not that it’s realistic to expect the Clintons to do as Craig requests, but it is certainly within OUR POWER to do as we damn wish - and I fully plan on supporting John McCain should Obama be forced on us as the nominee.

And it is worth noting that Craig has written some brilliant essays on foreign policy for us — and knows a thing or two about how the world works, and his opinions deserve our utmost respect. Even if and when he is expressing what he wishes would happen but probably doesn’t realistically expect to happen.

Comment by Lucinda | 2008-05-29 17:49:01

I’m with you Susan. I stayed home in 2004, because I couldn’t stand John Kerry but couldn’t stomach voting for Bush. This time, I will make my one little vote count.

Comment by typical irishman | 2008-05-29 18:01:56

You are right, we can do as we damn well please. I am with you and everyone else who will if necessary support John McCain. It is not enough to simply sit at home and not vote. Our vote is needed to help DEFEAT the bastard who has destroyed the democratic party–namely B. H. Obama. There is more to defeat than just Obama but he essentialy must come first.

WHATEVER HAPPENS YOU HAVE MY LOYALTY AND SUPPORT AS WELL AS MY ADMIRATION….WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO I WILL RESPECT….

**** However I can not vote for a FASCIST OBAMA…and I think you understand that…If you and Bill want to try to save the party built be FDR then I admire that….I have been a voting Democrat since 1979 but if OBAMA THE FASCIST is given an ILLEGITIMATE NOMINATION…I will vote GOP till all these corrupted party officials are removed from the party…****

If you decide to be independent sign me up….But if it Hairlips the Pope ( I’m Catholic…I’m allowed ) I will do my duty and quit Donna Putin’s new fascist party and not support Obama…Obama insults my Democratic spirit.

Comment by Clara Barton | 2008-05-29 18:41:42

Can Pelosi shut this down next week as she has vowed to do? Can she prevent the Clinton’s from going to the convention if most supers endorse Hillary now? I’m trying to get a sense of how this plays out if they cast their lot with Obama now, but change their minds later. Or will this really be the end of it? What fools.

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-29 18:47:44

No. She’s just flouncing.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-05-29 19:37:25

Why can’t it happen? The Democratic Party has told us base Democrats shut up or get out. They have cheated Hillary out of this nomination and want to put in this empty suit instead. God knows what his real agenda is. Now Nancy Pelosi has upped the anty. She has decided to call an end to this nomination process.

If somebody hadn’t decided to throw that Boston Tea Party we would all be speaking with English accents today and bowing to the Queen.

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-05-29 17:36:39

Mr. Della Penna makes good points. His suggested actions would make it easy to determine who to vote for. And that would not be Obama or McCain.

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-29 17:37:18

Hillary,

I’m with Craig here!
And I know a dozen others that would jump in a heart beat! (none of which will EVER vote for BO even IF YOU BEG) Sorry!

But we’ll gladly try something else with YOUR name at the head! No problem!

The DEMS have indeed been consumed by the radicals on the far left along with the AA BO supporters (which is almost all of them) and they are making us all walk around on egg shells as to NOT OFFEND THEM!

I don’t feel like turning into a hermit (worse than I already am)

I don’t feel we owe BHO ANYTHING and he is NOT a symbol of anything to me other than another loser politician. This time a DINO. He’s NOT qualified in the least for the job. LESS so than GW BUSH and I really hated him.

SO - HILLARY lets do it!!

Comment by democrat1 | 2008-05-29 17:38:20

I whole heartedly support you and I am sure millions of voters. If only Hillary takes the stand and contest as an independent and run an issue based campaign, I am sure most of the democrats and majority of the women will vote for her and we will win

Comment by Donkey Brazziere | 2008-05-29 17:40:43

I think we should fight to take the party back.

Comment by iam0nly1 | 2008-05-29 17:45:53

Do you think that’s possible if Obama is the nominee?

We already know he is telling his supporters and donors not to donate to anything else, only to him. He will install his cronies as the heads of the DNC. He is attempting to hijack the party, and ultimately the nation. Do you think anything we do, once he has taken over, will help?

If he is not the nominee, the party is salvageable. However, if he is the nominee, I see the only way of taking the party back is by not voting for him and ousting him. However, once he’s the nominee he can install whoever he wants as the party leaders.

Comment by It's Not Me | 2008-05-29 20:48:54

He has no one left to vote for him. He has AAs and the so-called “creative class” and that’s IT.

He’s insulted every other known demographic group.

Hillary and Bill could EASILY start another Independent Party and WIN. She’s ahead in the POPUKAR VOTE. SHE is ahead in the electoral votes…NOT OBAMA. He would LOSE and the old Democratic Party that left us, will be gone forever.

I’m in! Do it Hillary! Leave the party that left you.

Comment by It's Not Me | 2008-05-29 20:50:32

Comment by Betty | 2008-05-29 21:13:44

iam0nly1 Do you think anything we do, once he has taken over, will help?

That is what I have feared all along, that we would be too little too late.

Now is the time to act! And it will be the fight of our lives. We are asking so much of Hillary, yet it is her very strength that gives birth to the idea, the movement Obama likes to tell us he is. Anyone else would fold under the pressure.

Just think of the amount of money it takes to start a new party … unless you do it in a totally new model … it would take a really, really really bright, smart, new thinker and lots of dough.

Comment by iam0nly1 | 2008-05-29 17:41:24

I wish she would run as an independent. Although, I know she is very faithful and loyal to the Democratic Party. Although, Carville seemed to suggest that the feigned outrage over her RFK statement was truly hurtful and was a game changer for the Clinton camp. I wonder if the longer this goes on the more willing she is to run as an independent.

However, the stakes are very high for her if she does run as an independent. Would she still need to reach the 270 necessary for the electoral college if there were three in the race? The money that would need to be raised for her to compete against 2 establishment candidates would be astronomical. If she ran independent she would have to win, there would be no other option. For if she lost, Obama would also certainly lose (which is a guarantee anyway) and she would be blamed for it.

But like Craig, if she’s willing to take that risk, I’m right behind her.

Comment by Dawnelle | 2008-05-29 17:51:24

I no longer care WHAT THE FAR LEFT BLAMES ON OTHERS!!

Their blind sanctimony is making us ALL LOOK BAD!!!!!dammmmmmmmit!

Comment by beebop | 2008-05-29 18:52:18

Those who cannot succeed on their own must of needs find others to carry the burden of blame. He has spent too much time with Uncle Jerry to understand that sometimes the fault is your own. He loves being the victim. It obligates others to do for you.

Comment by rojo | 2008-05-29 18:28:51

If she were to run as an independent, there is also the possibility that none of the three major candidates would reach 270 electoral votes. I’d love to see that. What bigger statement could the country make against the appalling treatment the strongest candidate for president has received from her own party?!

Comment by stodghie | 2008-05-29 19:45:42

then it would go to the house of representatives where pelosi would give it to obama. count on that.

Comment by Lillian | 2008-05-29 22:36:05

I totally disagree. Let them SHOW the American voters that the fix is in. Many people do not realize that. That is why they want Hillary to stand down prematurely.

Had she done so in March, would we have known the fix was in?

Take it all the way to the convention. No third party. Let these fools leave the party in the purging that’ll surely happen when Hussein loses BIG-TIME in November. And so will the other delegates who supported him. Let THEM create a third party - they’re the loonies that are out of touch!

Besides, the tide has turned against him. The MSM are waking up, last week he alienated alot of people over the RFK fiasco. People are onto him.

WHY GIVE UP NOW? BETWEEN JUNE & AUGUST HUSSEIN WILL BE IN ANALYZED IN THE MEDIA - ALOT! GRAB YOUR POPCORN ;-)

May 29, 2008 — A new polling analysis spells potential trouble in the fall for Democratic front-runner Barack Obama: He struggles against Republican candidate John McCain even in states where he defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton.

That is an amazing idea. We could all vote for someone who stands for what we believe in.

Then, when both the candidates who stand for what we believe in lose to the guy who stands for everything we’ve ever opposed, we can slap each other on the back and tell each other how special we are for screwing over an entire country for the good of our enormous egos.

Comment by Gregoryp | 2008-05-29 18:59:16

Really? Because I don’t ever remember saying that I believe in corruption, pathological lying, Muslim appeasement, paying lots of taxes, being called a racist hillbilly, etc.

I do distinctly recall that I believe in sound ecological principles, jobs not welfare, social justice and equality for ALL not just the select, real universal health care and not employer based either, and a heck of a lot more that I don’t think Obama cares one iota about. Obama may be a communist or a marxist or a libertarian. Don’t really know at this point because he claims to be so much. So screw you and your fallacious, sanctimonious crap.

They have also shown no faith or loyalty to millions of silenced votes because it does not fit into their rules. If the tables were turned, BO would get 100% of the votes! I am ready to stand up and scream, “I am mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

What needs to happen (seriously)is that some kind of national reputable poll should be taken and published on the news networks. I thought I saw one from Raumessen? that asked if Hillary ran as a third party candidate would you vote for her. At least this way since the results will obviously be high in my opinion - it would send a clear message to the DNC that they need to wake up now before Hillary takes the poll seriosly AND Hillary would have to put the “teaser” publically that if she thought she had an honest chance of winning the Presidency as a third Party candidate she would do it BECAUSE THIS COUNTRY MEANS TOO MUCH TO HER! I am serious and if you have any connections to Hillary’s ear - you should tell her to do it. I know in my heart she would have at least 17 million voters now.

Oh, and this third party should be called The Spinal Party or Party of the Uber Spine (POTUS - for short!)

“the only person who can save the whole nation from sinking is named HILLARY R CLINTON”

Where does this idol worship of Hillary come from?

“she’s a hard worker”

What does this even mean? She works hard because she campaigns? Tons of people campaign. Tons of people work longer hours than she does.

“Hill is working for us”

No, she isn’t. She’s rich. The way she got rich is off suckers like you who buy into this shtick. I support Obama. I don’t like him personally (I’ve never met the guy). I don’t think he’s perfect. He’s just the politician who is closest to my beliefs who is still in the race.

If some of Hillary Clinton’s suckers (those who keep working their asses off to pay a millionaires debt) would just vote instead of ‘voting their conscience’ then we wouldn’t be faced with another Bush term.

Comment by Felix Rodriguez | 2008-05-29 18:14:37

Jack, I suspect my idol worship comes from the same place as yours. The process is the same, after all. Unfortunately for you, the “idol” is different.

Intelligence is required for the position of POTUS. I would say you may want to find a leader who has some.

Comment by ginaswo | 2008-05-29 19:21:14

Obama supporters are the idle worshipping the idol
the winer and cheese poseurs worshipping the whiners

Hillary is a worker and a fighter
that is what we need
that is who the Democratic Party represents
we will fight with Hillary all the way and wont give up our party unless Hillary steps down

THEN you will see a mass exodus and the party will be left to self destruct

US GDP is 70% produced by the working class, the Democratic Party is supported by the broadest coalition of the working class, until now, if you force Hillary out it will be your own death knell, the party will collapse under the weight of the arrogance and empty promises you cannot deliver on without the WORKERS and the FIGHTERS you disdain.

A lot of us say this because she is the only candidate with proven intellect.

Listen to her sometime…

Obama is stupid, one listen to him, and it’s obvious the man doesn’t read, doesn’t think, and my goodness, the corruption, why do he choose to line up with the corrupt?

The Chicago way is the best way? Corruption has bankrupt IL, and no one there, in govt, seems able to do their jobs.

Bad decisions all around, if Obama was stupid enough to take the money, like the rest of them, then he’s too stupid to be President.

And McCain does as his lobbyists tell him.

Now that the word is out about BO’s corrupt political ties, it should be painfully clear to everyone that a vote for BO is a vote for more corruption in politics.

How big are the bribes that BO has paid you to make it worthwhile for you to sell your political soul to the devil?

He’s the person “closest to your beliefs” who is still left in the race? Are you serious?

Well, if you wait until Hillary is elected and she gets Universal Health Care for you, then you can go to a shrink and get some help to resolve your deep-seated issues.

Oh, and BTW, size does matter.

Oh please - as if you even know WHAT Obama stands for? What exactly does HOPE and CHANGE mean?

Especially when he flip-flops on “preconditions” and he’s got lobbyists coming out of his ears though he denies he takes lobbyist money and he’s got associations with people like Rezko (who just earned another arrest warrant today!); Rev. Wright; Bill Ayers; and now, this new Priest whose name I don’t yet even know how to spell! What’s next? Why don’t you read up on your candidate from a person who used to live in his district(see: Adolph Reed’s piece in The Progressive) and find out what he is really about!

PLEASE!!!!

Barack and Michelle are sooooooooooooooo poor!!!!! Poor babies …. they haven’t been given enough yet. Well, I am sure that Uncle Jerry will fix that for them. He can always write another novel. He’s already creating new characters just this past Monday … uncle? great uncle? uh? Eastern Front? Western Front? Dead people? Face it. He’s a MESS … is that the candidate closest to who you are?
