If you watched the last few minutes of his speech on Tuesday night - you’ll notice he was screaming at the crowd that entire time! This was quite a stark contrast to McCain’s and Hillary’s speech - of the calm, composed, witty, intelligent behavior. I guess Obama’s what happens when your crowd just came from voting for American Idol. His audience reminds me of that little girl who cried when Sanjaya sang. Sanjaya had no talent and neither does Obama. No more false idols! Hillary or McCain - no other option.

Instead of using only words, and tapes. Begin the pragmatic act of cutting

I don’t mind the joke about 2016. That’s only typical arrogant braggart/gangsta humour from the black community. What I do not like is his reference to mayor Daley of the Chicago criminal political mafia. That is teh suck.

We all know how corrupt the Daley dynasty is. A Russian girl in here recently said she got Stalinistic flashbacks when she was in Chicago. Expected to see a framed glossy of the pig on every wall in every room in the city.

The Daley machine crooks have never before endorsed a presidential candidate. They rig elections for people who pay but they never endorse. This time was different. For the Daley machine crooks were in trouble: there’d risen a black reform challenger through the ranks - a lady who was after the mayoral job, who wanted to gut the monster that is Chicago corruption, and she was popular and perceived as a very real threat.

So Daley contacted Barry. And for months they met - somewhat in secret - in Daley’s offices in Chicago. Chit chat, chit chat. Quid pro quo discussions. The end result?

- Daley comes out and endorses Barry.
- Barry comes out and endorses Daley as a candidate of reform.

Barry has a price tag on him for anything at all. Thus seeing the jerk slip in the name of his fellow crook here - it’s very calculated and it’s very crooked and to me it’s simply another corroboration of how scum Barry is. For there is no one but no one who doesn’t believe Daley and his goons are crooked as anything. But what Daley, Axelrod, and Barry are doing here is the old ‘big lie’ trick: repeat a lie often enough and guess what? Barry will keep dropping references to Daley all along and the next thing you know Winston Smith is going to shout ‘long live Big Brother’.

And to me it’s that which is truly sickening.

I changed my registration from D to unaffiliated on Monday following the RBC heist. At this point, I’m just sitting on the sidelines trying to figure out what to do. I will NOT vote for Obama. I can’t. He’s obviously just a front man for someone, and maybe it is just corrupt Chicago BS, but I think it’s bigger than that.

I hope Hillary just suspends her campaign and then chills for a few months. The novelty of Obama will wear off quickly, and hopefully voters will see that there is nothing of substance there. If McCain widens his lead in the polls, maybe the Dems will come to their senses and go with Hillary at the convention. I would love to see this charade by Dean/Brazille/Pelosi blow up in their faces.

Part of the problem with this campaign is that Obama has divided us. Young against old, Black against white, women against sexist men. And this conflict may be enough to carry him to victory. Many of the young have made this election more about getting control of the Gov. away from older Americans and retooling it to meet their needs. Much less about Obama himself, but about the needs of the young. Wonder where we fit in to their world view?

Speaking of Obama does anyone have facts that he did run tv ads in Florida? If so should he not be stripped of his delagates per the dnc rules.

Last week, a zoning board rammed through a private institution (Chicago Childrens Museum) building in Grant Park. A century ago, Montgomery Ward fought a 20 year battle to ensure that the lakefront would remain for the people; “breathing room for the poor” he called it at one point.

Mayor Daley has got a hard-on for a casino on Navy Pier (no evidence, but I’ve lived here going on 30 years and know how this crap works - it’s dysfunctional as all get out, but it works) and the Childrens Museum must move out first.

And after that? If their dreams come true, these bastards will start encroaching on what’s left of the ‘peoples lakefront’ for their 2016 olympic circle jerk. With my money, and money of every bleeding citizen of this fucked up city paying the highest shaggin’ sales tax in the country.

This is Chicago Politics folks. This is The Pristine Art of the Political Fuck You. It’s not about the people. Not a bit. This is the most short sighted bunch of asswipes in the country. And people want them to be in Washington.

McCain and women’s issues: It’s more than just Roe

Obviously, John McCain’s intention to move the Supreme Court even further to the right and overturn Roe is high on the list of concerns regarding women’s issues, but Scott Lemieux had a good item this week reminding us that Roe is just part of a bigger picture.

Yes, it’s true that replacing John Paul Stevens and/or Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a Republican appointee will be bad for abortion rights, although this is likely to occur by further draining content from Casey rather than overturning Roe outright.

But even when it comes to women’s rights, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The enforcement of civil rights protections for women is likely to be much less in a Republican administration, for example. The global gag order will remain firmly in place. And in general, four more years of a tax-cut-supporting, massive-defense-spending GOP president will not only make any kind of serious progressive reform (much of which disproportionately benefits women even if not specifically targeted to do so) virtually impossible for four more years but will also make it more difficult in the future. A McCain presidency would be very, very bad for women even if not a single Supreme Court vacancy opens up during his tenure.

Quite right. We’re not just talking about esoteric issues like Supreme Court cases and speculative high court retirements; this is about the kind of impact McCain policies can and would have on women’s lives every day.

As St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, an enthusiastic Clinton backer, said this week, “You don’t spend your life fighting for women’s rights and then vote for Sen. McCain.”

As it turns out, we can even go further on this point.

David Greenberg, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood in Oregon, had an especially good item this week on the subject.

John McCain is one of only a few Senators to earn a Zero percent lifetime rating from Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund, and he only scored that high because the organization doesn’t have a lower rating…. Let’s look at his record:

He voted against requiring health care plans to cover birth control (3/22/03).

He voted against comprehensive, medically accurate sex education (7/25/06).

He voted against international family planning funding (3/14/96).

He voted against funding to prevent teen and unintended pregnancies (3/17/05).

He voted against public education for emergency contraception (3/17/05).

And he voted against restoring Medicaid funding that could be used for family planning for low-income women (3/17/05).

NPR reported (2/2/08) that, “Many Republican voters seem to believe, incorrectly, that the current Republican front-runner, Arizona Senator John McCain, supports abortion rights.”

John McCain wants us to believe that he’s a moderate who supports improving the health of women in the United States, but in fact he’s among the most extreme members of Congress who voted against common sense measures on family planning, sex education and access to basic healthcare.

In contrast, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton agree on all of these issues.

I’m happy someone finally brought this up. One very important thing, I can NOT stand listening to Obama. He gives me an absolute headache with his non stop YELLING. IT”S LIKE HE HAS TO TYPE EVEYRTHING IN BOLD LETTERS, not just the occasional HIGHLIGHT. He does this to over come his vagueness and lack of susbanstance, to sound authoritarian (learned by Rev Wright), which plays in to his condescending attitude. Anytime he doesn’t have his teleprompter, he sounds like a babling empty suit.
