This is a farewell to MyDD.com, published on May 31, 2008, by one of the best writers formerly with Daily Kos and now formerly with MyDD — i.e., with the nearly-extinct independence of the ‘netroots. – SusanUnPC.
Well, they’ve done it again.
Obama bloggers–paid or unpaid–have turned yet another democratic blog, the great MyDD, into an “obamablog”, where any statement critical of Obama is met with faux outrage, dismissal, and ridicule. The Obama people have smeared all democrats who do not fall in line with them. HRC supporters have been banned, warned, had their work edited, and “gang-troll rated” into oblivion.
MyDD has gone the way of daily kos.
The purpose of this diary is to respond to an earlier reccommended diary on the “signs of republican or McCain trolls”–or ways to spot what the author called “democrats supporting McCain.” The diary disturbed me as it seemed the penultimate way to trash every HRC supporter who said anything critical of Obama…in other words, “criticize Obama = republican troll”. The diary received many comments, and led subsequently to various commenters awarding “McCain points” to several HRC diarists in other posts, or to employ the “dismiss the argument” tactic by saying “is this snark?”
I don’t want the site’s obama people to forget that their behavior is transparent and how it is easy to see how they have approached and managed to take over so many blogs, and done so by maligning another democrat and half the democratic party that supports her.
There are essentially 5 characteristics of the Obama bloggers’ approach to eliminating HRC supporters, or dialogue about Obama on these sites. I give full credit to LavenderLiberal.com for the analysis, and add a few other things I’ve seen.
Basically it is a style of attack that is intended to eliminate and marginalize. It is not FOR Obama, it is AGAINST Clinton. In this manner, no issue about Obama is ever really discussed, even if it could effect the entire democratic party in November, even if that issue is raised for the purpose of dealing with it before it becomes an issue.
Here they are. Do your comments fit in here anywhere? Alternatively, have you been subject to any of these tactics yourself?
Attack/Gloat mode. ”Hillary is evil. Clintonistas are racist, uneducated old, irrelevant, paleofeminists, white-trash republican trolls (see the referenced diary above for spotting these mccain trolls).”
Threat Mode. ”If McCain wins, say good bye to roe v wade; say hello to the 100 year war, say goodbye to life on earth as we know it, and its all your fault”! And if Obama loses its because HRC continued her campaign through June 3rd!
Tantrum Mode. “Fine, go ahead and vote McCain, then! We don’t need you anyway! We’ve replaced you with millions of new voters! You were never a real democrat. The party is better off without you!”
Stark reality mode. Among themselves: “Oh shit…maybe we do need the Clintonistas in November!” To HRC supporters: “come on, we’re all democrats, we need to pull together, can’t we just get along?”
Over-confidence Mode. ”I’m not worried. HRC supporters will come around and vote Obama in Nov. After all, where else can they go? So let’s keep having fun beating them up!”
So, Obama people, spot yourselves as well as spotting the so-called “republican trolls”.
It’s been an interesting time here, but I am off to work for America. There is no convincing or reporting here, nor any real discussion.
As for me, I believe it is very important for the democrats to know who they’ve chosen if they go with Obama sometime next week as the “presumptive nominee”. Between now and August, my efforts on line, in the field of public discourse, and at the convention will be aimed at making sure the dems know who they’re getting in Obama. I am a proud life-long democrat and will still vote for the person I believe is the most qualified for POTUS in November.

Nope. That was tantrum mode. Love that “Ron Paul” crack. Republicans have enough class to allow the democratic process to continue without screaming at people to drop out, release their delegates and all that “come together” crap. I remember all the vitriol directed at an elderly Congressman who was actually against the war from the beginning, voted against it at each turn and continues to speak out against it – unlike Obama – and has the respect of our soldiers fighting overseas.

They did nothing about those guys, but god forbid you write a diary criticizing Obama. They’d put you on their hit list, and toss you out within days.
“Real” class is leaving your house with your golf clubs when your opponent, is giving a speech to endorse you. (At least stay in and appear to be listening.)
“Real” class is accepting votes taken from your opponent without saying that perhaps this isn’t fair.

Well, let me answer point by point:
1) Politicians all over the world wait for failure of leader of the pack. As long as she does not attacks him, why do you complain? What do you think about Ted Kennedy’s attack on Jimmy Carter 1980? That was far more extreme then sitting and waiting. Besides it was party leadership who selected him, with unison cheer from liberal press. Replacing Obama with anyone else means all of them would have to “eat humble pie”. Nah, they support him even if it is clear by July he will loose election.
2) Well, it wasn’t quite decisive win in primary, wasn’t it? If Obama is really “great uniter” he should start with own party. Of course, it would be more like coalition government then “I am the boss presidency”. Under such arrangement she could achieve more as VP then as Senator. Say, pass Universal Health Care? Is that so evil?
3) She does not need delegates for “Told you so” option. That might come only if he loses GE. And frankly, in year like this, with so big money advantage, he would be joke if he loses. Particularly if he shuns half of party in attempt to create absolute control.
4) Yes, that is something to take in account. Though, considering Mark Penn’s performance, he should be last (if ever) paid.
Finally, if she is not on the ticket, her fortunes are not so tied to Obama’s in any way. It is unlikely she will run again, but when time comes, she will replace Ted Kennedy as best known Democratic Senator. Count on lots of legislation with her name on it.
In response to point 2:
Yeah, consensus politics would be great. But it’s never going to work while the primaries system is in existence.
With so few differences in policies between the various Democratic candidates, the only thing that is left is personal attacks and dirt digging. The voters haven’t worked with the candidates to find out what they are really like (that goes for both sides – both Obama and Hillary supporters)
How can a meaningful choice be made?
The US needs to scrap the presidential system, boost the significance of the House of Representatives and Congress, and let a less ‘personality’ orientated style of politics emerge.
Until that happens, the Democrats will keep on crippling themselves in farcical campaigns such as these.

He won the nomination by realizing that winning the nomination wasn’t about getting the most votes, but about getting the most pledged delegates, something that he and his campaign did much more effectively than hillary.

The Pledged Delegate count started out being 2025, remember? Then came FL and MI and it went to 2118. NEITHER BO OR HILLARY REACHED EITHER NUMBER.

May I present to you a note to process? No. Well I am not surprised. Though your campaign has been telling us you have a new coalition and that you do not want to or need to listen to the majority of Americans, a major part of the majority wants to tell you a few things anyway.

After we voted for your opponent in WV you told our local press that you would not be coming to KY because we were too stupid to get past Fox News. You told us you were not going to PR because, as you said: “..you know I need to work on those kind of folks.”

The card, partially filled out, had his name and listed his office’s post office box on Citrus Boulevard as the address. It also listed him as a male, a Democrat and African-American.
“And I can tell you I’m only one of those,” said DiMarco, who is white and Republican. There was one bright spot, though. “They flattered me by making me younger — I did appreciate that.”
The mistakes have proved costly for his office, however. DiMarco said he’s burned through 65 percent of his $20,000 postal budget by mailing back erroneous registration cards. Still to be determined is how much will be spent on overtime for employees, he said.

Obama’s healthcare plan is seriously flawed. Basically, it’s literally nothing more than we have right now. Small wonder it would pass congress!!! But, McCain’s plan is just as useless. At least it offers you tax credits.
But Obama’s plan to just cover children is a joke. What if parent’s get sick???
I see the healthcare policy issue as a shining example of the fraudulent claims of Obama.
Two points why I still reject the idea of an Obama candidacy:
1) Policy points, as mentioned in the before: a) Kids, and subsequently their parents, health we be subject to a merit system, in that you must go out and get signed up. Universal mandates would ensure every child is in the system. b.) His plan will be manipulated by insurance companies, which will be manipulated by hedge fund bets.
2) Quality/Moral Failure: He employed good v evil politics (change v status quo) politics through out his campaign to distinguish himself as transformation, but used Republican ideological talking points in emailers to denigrate Hillary Clinton’s mandated universal healthcare plan as “socialize medicine” -which were specifically geared toward “independent” white affluent males in VI, MD, and WI- it was dropped in Ohio when Clinton called him out.
Obama can’t have his cake and eat it too. Either you’re above it all and transformational, or you use gutter and alley tactics like “socialized medicine”.
When I combine policy points and Obama’s willingness to operate below the standard he holds everyone else to, I have a fundamental problem with the candidate and a negative assessment when guessing his intended goals. He ran up his lead on anyone but Hillary and a purported antiwar position. Sadly, healthcare was not a key issue for the majority of his voters. He will not suffer any fallout from his supporters for failing us on his economic policy.
There is also a methodology about him that reminds me of Ronald Reagan in how easily he denies responsibility or professes total unfamiliarity with the nefarious conveniences of his arrangements. Obama supporters are like Reaganites in that they cling to the association with wealth and power. That they could really give a rat’s ass about the underprivileged is clear by the comments.

I am 47. To also put things in perspective I liked Denis Kucinich but I knew he did not have a chance so I was all for Edwards. When He dropped out I chose Obama as the best choice. I am a New Yorker and I did not even vote for Hillary for senator. I just have never trusted her. I voted for some uknown dem or green candidate. Now as much as I dislike Hillary I would still vote for her in the General if she were the nominee. Holding my nose of course.

The NY Times has an editorial today about the need for reform of the primary system. They mention the problems with caucuses and recommend that they be replaced with primaries; the unfairness to other states’ voters in letting Iowa and New Hampshire always go first; the screwy way vote counts translate into delegates; and the existence of superdelegates.
Despite having criticized Clinton for many weeks for not dropping out, they say nothing about how how these undemocratic processes are exactly what led to Obama’s being ahead on delegates. If the changes they recommend were already implemented, Clinton would have the nomination.
The tactics that Obama supporters are using are just so Republican. It’s the “loyalty to the party” plea. That’s a big NO for me.
Yet somehow the Republicans have managed to win the presidency more often than the Democrats.

Obama can’t win on his qualifications, since he is manifestly un-ready to be President. The Wright, Ayers, Pfleger issue prove that Obama lacks both good judgment and in the pinch lack courage. He stood by these radicals when it suited and threw them under the bus when it didnt.
Democrats have to be loyal? What about loyalty to country first, ie, the best person for the job?
The GOP has nominated the most un-Republican candidate in a long time, McCain, who has done more for the Democrat signature issues like CFR, etc. than Obama would even if Obama had 20 more years in the Senate.
McCain is the kind of centrist many moderate Democrats would flock to if he wore the D label. And Lieberman is supporting him even with an R label. If you dont like extremism in either party, voting for McCain will be a rebuke both to the leftwing and rightwing in our politics.

We don’t elect people based on gaffes. We elect them based on the issues. I support Hillary and her issues, and that’s why I’ll vote for Obama. I’m new to this blog stuff, but I enjoyed your rant. I was so shocked at first by the behavior. Today, I see it’s pretty much as you say, 4 or 5 tricks used over and over. They seem to not be able to discuss much, particularly if they don’t agree.
I really enjoy good discussions. Give and take. But I grew up in a home where we enjoyed talking. Someone pointed out that this is the “Survivor” generation. That fit. Everything is a game to see who gets voted off the island.
What’s interesting is that it’s so illogical. Why come here, for example? You voted everyone off the island so you could enjoy your own company. So why have we been flooded with those same innane commentators?

Now, Obama, a man who served ONE year in the U.S. Senate before running for president will go up against a 5-year POW American War hero, a man who held two terms in the House of Representatives and has 20 YEARS as a U.S. Senator.

I got warned the other day because I said Obama weaseled his way to the nomination. It was a totally accurate statement, yet I was told to tone down my opinion, or go somewhere else. Well, I will not tone down my statement simply because Obama supporters want me too. I am a Hillary supporter, and now that she is out, (much to my discontent and anger), I will be voting Mc.Cain this November. I don’t take this decision lightly, but Barack Obama to me, is nothing but an empty suit. The Democratic party has to lean that the radical element of the party cannot be allowed to dictate who gets elected simply because they shout out the most. I hate John Mc.Cain, and I am basically against most of what he stands for, but when push comes to shove, the alternative in Obama is simply not acceptable to me.
