The Epistolary Rezko

The content of Antoin “Tony” Rezko’s letter to Judge St. Eve dated 9 JUN 2008 is so trite it is almost entertaining. The trope of the upwardly mobile immigrant is invoked in order to justify all the fraud and corruption in which he and other Chicago politicians and operatives were engaged. “I am simply an honest, humble immigrant who believes in the American dream[,]” he writes. He also discusses God, family and nation in order to elicit a sympathetic response from his intended reader(s). More egregious, however, is his description of his mother’s grave in a Catholic cemetery in Hillside, Illinois, the Chicago suburb in which he too will eventually rest. While this wedding of the two foundational fictions of the life course and of the American dream may yield a conventional autobiographical narrative fit for the shelves of a supermarket, it reads as a tacit admission of guilt. Indeed, this letter is nothing more than a plaintive cry for a reduced sentence.
But something else lurks in the spaces separating the letters printed on the pages of Rezko’s epistle to Judge St. Eve. This something is Barack Obama, candidate for President of the United States. I quote:
Your Honor, the prosecutors have been overzealous in pursuing a crime that never happened. They are pressuring me to tell them the “wrong” things that I supposedly know about Governor Blagojevich and Senator Obama. I have never been party to any wrongdoing that involved the Governor or the Senator. I will never fabricate lies about anyone else for selfish purposes. I will take what comes my way, but I will never hurt innocent people. I am not Levine, Loren, Mahru , or Winter.”
Once again the focus of a Fitzgerald investigation refers to the prosecutors as “overzealous.” Is Rezko a member of the Bush administration? Is the convicted political fixer and slumlord of tenements in inner city Chicago the new Scooter Libby? And why does Rezko mention Levine, Loren, Mahru and Winter? Does he fear they will discuss his relationship with Barack Obama? Is he attempting to neutralize their recollection of events?
Yes, he is. Read these conflicting accounts recorded in a Chicago Magazine article published in November 2007:
Daniel Mahru was Rezko’s partner in Rezmar for 16 years until the two men had, according to Mahru, “a difference of opinion” in 2005. He says they developed more than $600 million in properties, not counting a billion-dollar deal for 62 acres in the South Loop that has been stalled for years. By Mahru’s account, Rezko initially showed little interest in the trappings of power. “Back in the eighties, Tony had an opportunity to go to the White House with Muhammad Ali,” Mahru says. (The occasion was a dinner during the December 1987 summit of Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet leader; Ali had been invited as a guest.) “I commented to Tony, ‘Wow, that is something I would love to do, see history in the making!’ He said, ‘Dan, that doesn’t make me any money. I’m not interested.’
“That changed. I think everything went to his head. After the late nineties he was more interested in being around powerful people. He went to a Christmas party at the Bush White House.” Rezko cochaired a major fundraiser for President Bush’s campaign in 2003.
Rezko declined to comment about Mahru, likening their breakup to a divorce. “You would hear my story; you would hear his story. I wish him no harm.”
2005 is the year Rezko helped Obama purchase the mansion in the Kenwood neighborhood in inner city Chicago. And 2003 is the year Rezko held a fundraiser for US Senate candidate Barack Obama at his posh home in Wilmette, Illinois. Another event of significance in 2003 is Illinois Governor Blagojevich’s appointment of Rezko to the Board that oversees the $30 billlion dollar teachers’ pension fund. This is the same year during which Barack Obama was appointed to the Illinois state Senate Committee on Pensions and Investments by his friend and mentor state Senator Emil Jones. According to the Superseding Indictment filed by Fitzgerald in December 2006, Obama’s appointment to this state Senate committee coincided with Rezko’s attempts to leverage his influence with “high-ranking State of Illinois officials” to oppose a pension consolidation plan that would complicate the efforts of Rezko and Levine to defraud investment firms and the pensions funds of Illinois. Notice also how Obama sat on the state Senate Pensions and Investments Board when Rezko funneled money he defrauded from an investment firm that sought access to the Illinois pensions fund to Obama through Joseph Aramanda, whose son worked as an intern in Obama’s US Senate office in 2005, the year Rezko advised and assisted the Obamas when they purchased the Kenwood mansion they could not afford.
This is the time period during which Mahru alleges Rezko became obsessed with power. These are also the years during which Obama and Rezko were involved with Illinois’s pensions funds. What does Mahru know? And why does Rezko feel obliged to proleptically invalidate any information Mahru may or may not have imparted to Fitzgerald’s prosecutors in his letter to Judge St. Eve? According to Rezko, Mahru will “fabricate” stories in order to “harm” the “innocent.” But Mahru says Rezko is the one who “is more interested in being around powerful people.” Will we believe “the immigrant” who suddenly loves, indeed clings to, his “family, nation and God,” or will we trust the business partner who knew Rezko crossed the line when he helped Obama purchase a mansion in 2005?
The epistolary Rezko: it is all so much debased fiction, but it provides an interesting interpretation of the unassailable facts.

Hmm, the letter is dated June 9, 4 days after BO’s spokesperson said that “the Senator would not act to wipe away Rezko’s felony convictions or commute any prison time he might serve as a result of Wednesday’s verdict.” Sounds like a threat to me, too.

Actually, I thought it was interesting this all connects back to the white house, too, with the IL republican fundraisers Kiljander, and Cellini (who invited him to the party) being part of the national combine. Rezko was not quite in their league, yet, but certainly his eye was on the prize.

Like Obama’s receipt of $250,000 in donations from Rezko (an amount Obama somehow forgot, at first telling reporters it was $60,000, then gradually “recalling” ever-increasing “donations” from Rezko, when pressed by reporters), or Obama’s role in pushing through legislation favorable to Rezko’s pension schemes, whle serving on the Illinois Senate Committee on Pensions and Investiments. Speaking of records, where are Obama’s Illinois State Senate records? I read somewhere that Obama claims that he did not keep any records of his work at the Illinois State Senate. Can this be? Very convenient, but not very believable, especially considering what they might reveal.

It came out in this trial, I recall, that Rezko told investigators he spent a few hours at the Kenwood house with Obama to look at it before it was purchased. Obama had never mentioned this before, and quickly confirmed that happened, in order to try to squelch attention to his earlier misremembering.
And Rezkowatch mentioned that a member of Rezko’s staff owned the land, apparently, before Obama did, making it seem as if Rezko brought the deal to Obama, as opposed to Obama bringing the deal to Rezko.
Which could easily be disproved if the paper was opened up, but, of course, they won’t, publicly, though I’m sure the FBI knows all.
All these leaks, and after Bush, does Obama think he will just make them all go away?
Even Bush and Cheney couldn’t pull that one off, the pressure must be gut wrenching.

A FRACTURED FAIRY TALE FOR FIGHT THE SMEARS TROLLS
Once upon a time in the not too distant past…
There is a board that approves how to invest moneys from the Pension fund of State Employees.
There are 15 people on the board that have to examine and approve submissions.
Rezko and the dirty chicago machine have 5 members on that board who are in their pocket and will pass anything they are told to.
Senator Oblowme heads the commitee that controls how that board is apportioned.
Senator Obambi is asked and proceeds to “redistrict” that comittee from 15 members to 9 members keeping the 5 patsy members on.
Tony gets in touch with people who want investments in projects from that board.
He tells them you give me the mullah and donate to obambi and blogscumovitch and i can get you approved.
Tony rezko starts submitting his pay to play deals to the board where the 5 in the pocket members pass them time and time again.
Bambi and Blogo get donations from all parties involved each time as well as promises of $$$ fundraising.
Obambi suddenly realized one night while riding around in a limo getting a blowjob and smoking some crack, that his humble little bungacondolo was not befitting of a thief of his stature.
So he and his lovely wife Bitterella started looking for a new castle.
Lucky for them Bitterella sits on the board that aproves permits for altering historic properties.
The soon to be obambi mansion’s owner submits a petition to split his property into two parcels and it is sheparded through by Michelle.
THese petitions usually take a very long time.
This petition flew through the approval process.
The day after it is aproved Bitterella resigns from the board.
Rezko Pays Full price for lot B from split while Obambi pays 300 K less than asking for lot A with house.
Thats righ, not even the shadow of anything but upstanding politics and deal making.
and they all lived happily ever after…
…until that dirty irishman decided to start investigating and busted several of the dwarves on federal racketeering charges.
Now Tony is contemplating playing hide the salami with Bubbah his new roomate, while all the dirty little bastards behind the scenes are trying to rig the election and get Dirty OBaba into the white house because only the president can pardon people who are in federal jails for federal offenses.
And don’t forget about slumlord Rezko’s poor, freezing (no heat) tenants in Obama’s district – they got no help from Obama, but the slumlord did!
that was an experimental run of Obama’s new presidential policies where we give up our SUVs nd Fries and turn our heat down in the winter. He wanted to make sure he fully vetted that proposal by trying it out on 11 buildings in his district before he rolled it out nationwide.
That’s why we need to keep Rezko out of jail. We need him as director of HUD.

The “birth certificate” dailykos has produced is clearly a forgery. If you zoom in on it you can clearly see jpeg artifacts around all text and the state seal. But near the bottom center you can see the date Jun – 6 2003 coming through from the reverse side without artifacts. I think someone needs to call these scumbags on forging documents to try to stop questions about their anointed one.

When you read the pdf file of that letter, linked at the begining of this post, it seems Rezko got 3.5 Million from cronies, and somehow against the judges orders.
He spend’s a lot of time trying to convince the Judge he was Not getting the money so he could flee back to Syria. (Syria, sponsers of hezbollah, conduit for Iranian funds to hamas.)

Obama moves DNC operations to Chicago
In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee — and a departure from tradition — large parts of the committee’s operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign.
The DNC’s political department, housed in Washington, D.C., will be dramatically rebuilt, with staffers offered a choice of moving to Chicago, joining state operations, or staying in Washington, DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney said.
But the power will clearly be shifting to a centralized Chicago hub.
The DNC’s key role in coordinating political operations with state parties is expected to largely be taken over and overseen by Obama’s senior staff in Chicago, state party officials said.
“This is part of the implementation of the plans Paul [Tewes] discussed last week with the state party chairs,” Finney said. “As part of the efforts to fully integrate DNC operations with the Obama campaign here in Washington, in Chicago and in the states, political, field and constituency operations are moving to Chicago to work in the Obama headquarters. The goal is to consolidate these efforts into one operation and effectively drive one national strategy.”
People familiar with the plan said that state party staffers paid for under Howard Dean’s 50 State Program would be shifted to working for the presidential campaign, at least in targeted battleground states.
The move reflects Obama’s desire to maintain an unusually streamlined campaign, as well as his swift and complete takeover of a Democratic Party that isn’t always known for its unity. The move may also save the campaign money, as the Obama campaign can use DNC salaries and staff to pay for elements of its organizing campaign and avoid some of the duplication that has often dogged presidential efforts.

Of course, due to U.S. Attorney Pat Fitzgerald’s efforts, we know Republican Governor Ryan was also a participant. The Rezko trial testimony reveals that Dennis Hastert, Bob Kjellander and Karl Rove were involved as well.
