Isn’t there any way the primary can be decided in the courts? The DNC violated the constitution with FL and MI… now they are letting bo pick his own delegates when he doesn’t like the ones that were elected, and there is talk of no voting to take place at the convention. Republicans controlled the Illinois General Assembly for six years of Obama’s seven-year tenure. Each session, Obama backed legislation that went nowhere; bill after bill died in committee. During those six years, Obama, too, would have had difficulty naming any legislative ­achievements.

Then, in 2002, dissatisfaction with President Bush and Republicans on the national and local levels led to a Democratic sweep of nearly every lever of Illinois state government. For the first time in 26 years, Illinois Democrats controlled the governor’s office as well as both legislative chambers.

The white, race-baiting, hard-right Republican Illinois Senate Majority Leader James “Pate” Philip was replaced by Emil Jones Jr., a gravel-voiced, dark-skinned African-American known for chain-smoking cigarettes on the Senate floor.

Jones had served in the Illinois Legislature for three decades. He represented a district on the Chicago South Side not far from Obama’s. He became Obama’s ­kingmaker.

Several months before Obama announced his U.S. Senate bid, Jones called his old friend Cliff Kelley, a former Chicago alderman who now hosts the city’s most popular black call-in radio ­program.

I called Kelley last week and he recollected the private conversation as follows:

“He said, ‘Cliff, I’m gonna make me a U.S. Senator.’”

“Oh, you are? Who might that be?”

“Barack Obama.”

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

“I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen,” State Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. “Barack didn’t have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

“I don’t consider it bill jacking,” Hendon told me. “But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book.”

During his seventh and final year in the state Senate, Obama’s stats soared. He sponsored a whopping 26 bills passed into law — including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.

It was a stunning achievement that started him on the path of national politics — and he couldn’t have done it without Jones.

Before Obama ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, he was virtually unknown even in his own state. Polls showed fewer than 20 percent of Illinois voters had ever heard of Barack Obama.

Jones further helped raise Obama’s profile by having him craft legislation addressing the day-to-day tragedies that dominated local news ­headlines.

For instance. Obama sponsored a bill banning the use of the diet supplement ephedra, which killed a Northwestern University football player, and another one preventing the use of pepper spray or pyrotechnics in nightclubs in the wake of the deaths of 21 people during a stampede at a Chicago nightclub. Both stories had received national attention and extensive local coverage.

I spoke to Jones earlier this week and he confirmed his conversation with Kelley, adding that he gave Obama the legislation because he believed in Obama’s ability to negotiate with Democrats and Republicans on divisive issues.

So how has Obama repaid Jones?

Last June, to prove his commitment to government transparency, Obama released a comprehensive list of his earmark requests for fiscal year 2008. It comprised more than $300 million in pet projects for Illinois, including tens of millions for Jones’s Senate district.

Shortly after Jones became Senate president, I remember asking his view on pork-barrel spending.

I’ll never forget what he said:

“Some call it pork; I call it steak.”

Let’s rethink that not voting for McCain. A vote for anybody other than McCain, or no vote, or writing in Hillary - well, those are votes for Obama.

Remember the Ralph Nadar voters that siphoned off just enough votes to elect Bush (with the help of the Supremes, of course)?

A vote for McCain is a vote for deadlock. That’s the best strategy to see Hillary elected in 2012 - or maybe even this time.

We are expecting a solid Democratic Majority in the House and Senate. McCain can’t get conservative judges approved, he can’t fund his war-mongering, he can’t do too much at all if the Democratic Majority stands strong against him.

It’s not like he’ll be there eight years. If Obama is defeated soundly and McCain is a lame-duck, the country will be looking for someone new in 2012.

BTW. Anything McCain does by Executive Order can be undone within minutes of a new President taking office.

The republican plan:

Lets see who is least qualified to be a president and has plenty of stuff to hid. That would be BHO.

Let make sure BHO wins all the primaries that we can influence and is well funded to do so. That was done since he won many red states that were mostly republican and had a very small democratic base. In these states even a few thousand republicans could easily turn the election into a land slide for BHO. It made it look like BHO was unstoppable.

BHO outspent Hillary by millions that he most likely got from the republicans.

The media treatment of Hillary was just a bonus.

The DNC fell in line with an egomaniac that actually believed that he was somebody special. Not entirely his fault since everybody was telling him so.

Now reality starts sinking in as the money will not be as forth coming as it was during the primary season. The republicans will stop giving money and the youth vote probably can’t even pay for their own lunch.

The 1000 people who work for the BHO campaign will have to be cut significantly to keep things going.

Even volunteers cost a campaign money. So that will have to be scaled back as well.

Without money the campaign will start coming to a grinding halt at a time when the republicans attack machine is just getting started.

The true Hillary supporters will not give any money to the DNC, which only has a few million on hand compared to the RNC with more then 40, or the Obama camp. The all so important Jewish money will go to the RNC to a large degree.

You can see how the entire party could come apart in the next few months. After all its always about the money.

Sen. Clinton ran to advance a specific political agenda. An agenda that she herself thinks will be best implemented by electing Sen. Obama. Refusing to do so out of pique or hurt feelings isn’t supporting Sen. Clinton, it’s acting in direct opposition to her.

I understand that there are Obama supporters who act like jerks, but they do so because sometimes people are jerks, and not because of some inherent flaw in Sen. Obama. I promise you, if you take the time it is even possible to find jerks who support Sen. Clinton.

It’s your right to make politics all about your hurt feelings, but it is deeply unfair to Sen. Clinton that you refuse to see her historic campaign as anything other than a vehicle to focus attention on how unfair things are for you, and how mean people are being to you.

The RBC argued that Florida broke the rules and therefore must be penalized. In 2000, the Republicans argued that certain counties didn’t follow the rules and therefore those votes should not be recounted.

The DNC decided to penalize both Florida and Michigan for holding their primaries early, even though four other states also violated the DNC rules, yet these states did not have to pay a penalty, click here to view DNC Delegate Selection Rules pdf.

While the DNC rules allowed for Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina to hold their elections ahead of schedule, the rules stated the following:

Iowa was not suppose to hold its election before Jan 5, 2008, it was held on Jan 3.
New Hampshire was not suppose to hold its election before Jan 22, it was held on Jan 8.
South Carolina was not suppose to hold its election before Jan 29, it was held on Jan 26.

Only Nevada held its election within the time frame outlined by the DNC rules.

The RBC chose a completely different path for penalizing Michigan voters. Barack Obama, John Edwards, and Bill Richardson all removed their names from the ballot, while Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gavel all kept their names on the ballot. There was no requirement by the DNC to have their names removed. The only agreement by all candidates was not to campaign there.

Hillary supporters actually RESPECT the laws of our country.

Just an observation after scouring these threads. I’m fairly convinced that the MOST inflammatory pro-Obama postings are actually Republicans trying to stir the pot. I’m also pretty sure the most inflammatory ANTI-Obama postings are pro-Obama if you can dig that. Finally, I’m pretty sure a significant number of middle-of-the-road pro-Hillary postings are Repbulicans who HAD no intention of voting for Hillary in the general but may or may not have voted for her in the primary, again, just to keep the shit going. I find all of this to be not unlike a sad episode of the Twilight Zone, watching you all self-destruct in this way with an extension of the WORST administration this country has ever endured being the most likely outsome. Any thoughts?

I mean if we have 10,000,000 vote Nadar and 10,000,000 vote Barr, and we have 10,000,000 vote LaRouche - dont’ you see that Obama wins? His Kool-Aid Hordes are going to come out in Lock-Step for him and give him 45,000,000 votes. McCain would lose by a slim margin and we would be stuck with Barack - and we would be to blame.

The only person, like it or not, that has a REAL chance of defeating Obama is McCain. I know it is something that know one wants to hear but it is the truth. If we do not vote for him and instead vote for anyone and everyone else - SPLITTING OUR VOTE INTO worthless little blocks of votes for people that will not win - then we might as well just vote for Obama anyway. This entire argument that this site and Savage Politics makes is pointless. Votes to people that have no hope of winning are pointless. They just lower the total needed for the enemy to overcome. I have never voted RED in my life - but there are somethings worse than voting Republican. And it is called Barack Obama.

Please consider the statements I have made - we could end up giving this election to the very person we have fought so hard to beat because we are going to vote for people that can’t win.

Limbaugh and McCain United - Against Chelsea Clinton

As the war of words between Rush Limbaugh and John McCain reached a fever pitch this week, it took MSNBC reporter David Schuster to remind Americans that the two right-wing titans share some common values. For all of their current disagreements over the direction of the Republican Party, Limbaugh and McCain agreed on one thing. They both called a young Chelsea Clinton ugly - and worse.

As Molly Ivins recalled, Rush’s 1993 slur against the 13 year old daughter of the new President was signature Limbaugh:

On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, “Did you know there’s a White House dog?” Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.
When viewers objected, he claimed, in typical Limbaugh fashion, that the gag was an accident and that without his permission some technician had put up the picture of Chelsea–which I found as disgusting as his original attempt at humor.

Five years later, John McCain got into the act with a slander of Chelsea Clinton that was infinitely more vulgar. Appearing at a 1998 Republican Senate fundraiser, McCain reached into the gutter to show his conservative family values with this:

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”
As David Corn reported in June 1998, John McCain the aspiring presidential candidate as usual got a free ride from the press in extricating himself from the hole he dug himself:

When McCain subsequently apologized to President Clinton, the Washington Post, in its personality section, noted the apology but said the joke “was too vicious to print.”
The joke did appear in McCain’s hometown paper, the Arizona Republic, and the Associated Press did report the joke in full, so everyone in the press had access to McCain’s words. But by censoring themselves, the Post, the Times and others helped McCain deflect flak and preserved his status as a Republican presidential contender.

Seriously, I sent this to my Vietnam vet dad who voted for Bush twice and now plans to vote Obama. He thinks Senator Obama will make a wonderful president.

Maybe Senator Clinton is just more forgiving of Republicans.

After all, Senator Clinton demanded not just an apology from anti-genocide author, professor and crusader Samantha Power after an off the record quote about the Senator was published in a British newspaper, she demanded and got her resignation from advising the Obama campaign.

And when David Shuster of MSNBC made a totaly inappropriate and crude remark about Chelsea Clinton’s role in her mother’s campaign, again Senator Clinton pressured MSNBC to fire him instead of just suspending him. (MSNBC stuck with the suspension.)

But Senator Clinton has had a curiously different and forgiving attitude to Senator John McCain when it comes to gross, reprehensible comments about her and her famiy. In fact, as BuzzFlash has noted, Senator Clinton has elevated McCain above Barack Obama. She has unilaterally declared that Senator McCain has crossed the “threshold” into being prepared to be commander-in-chief. Bill Clinton has also boasted that his wife and Senator McCain are friendly colleagues with deep respect for each other — and that they would run a civilized respectful campaign.

That does indeed seem a little inconsistent and odd because Senator McCain has participated in offenses concerning Chelsea and Senator Clinton that clearly rise to the outrage level.

During the Clinton presidency, McCain had this to say, in his words: “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? — Because her father is Janet Reno.”

Now, that got our dander up and made us wonder about the character of a man that the Clintons are working so hard to elevate to the presidential character and commander-in-chief level, at the expense of Barack Obama. But Hillary Clinton didn’t have her staff burst out indignant press releases then, and she doesn’t appear to factor such “jokes” into her judgment of Senator McCain now.

During the New Hampshire primary, John McCain was asked by a supporter, “How do we beat the Bitch?” McCain laughed and responded, “That’s an excellent question.” (Eventually he offered that he respected Senator Clinton and anyone that gets the Democratic nomination.)

So, what is with this double standard on Senator Clinton’s part? Are deplorable comments only worthy of outrage when demanding the head of the offender meets a political goal? If that’s not the case, why is Senator McCain such a man of character in the eyes of Senator Clinton?

We condemn all the statements cited above. But Senator Clinton has given John McCain a virtual free pass on tasteless behavior concerning her and her family — no memos demanding his censor, no impromptu news conferences at which Senator Clinton boils over with outrage when it comes to John.

Just why might that be?

You’ll have to ask Senator Clinton why the Republican nominee for President gets such special treatment.

Stop the FRAUD.

The DNC sure are jumping on the wrong horse. Its too bad, and it’ll be interesting to see whether or not they have enough majority strength to turn the nomination over to Hillary as it becomes apparent Obambi is a terrible pick. Keep the pressure on them ya’ll!!

You know what’s funny? Specter has always talked a fantastic game of respecting the constitution but then not following through. During the debate on the military tribunals act (can’t recall the exact name), he delivered a stirring and heart-pounding speech on the majestic importance of habeas corpus…right before casting a vote allowing Dubya to abolish it. Yeesh. He did the same thing on the torture vote. He’s always very disappointing that way. It happens time and time again.

BUT…I have a feeling that in this case he might actually follow through. Because in this case he gets to go after Democrats, he doesn’t have to take on his own party. He can cast himself as the champion of the constitution that he wants to be seen as, and still stand by his party. Win-win for Arlen.

We should all encourage him.

P.S. Yes, what 2009 said. A vote for McCain is TWO votes against BO; a vote anyone else is a vote for BO, period. In some states THEY WILL GIVE YOUR WRITE-IN FOR HILLARY TO BO.
