Remember also that Senator Clinton voted to allow the president to use the War Powers Act and not to launch the war. She made a very powerful statement on the Senate floor about urging the president to use the power wisely.

BTW, I used to have a lot of respect for you, Larry Johnson. But your behavior during the primaries caused me to use all of that respect for you. I'm not even a Democrat, so I didn't care about the race one or the other. But I had respected your work in the past, which is why your deplorable behavior during the primaries made you appear to be someone completely different. Too bad you were willing to sell your honor for the sake of one person, who lost. I'm ashamed of you.

We all should seriously think about switching to the independent party. Our Country (our soldiers are giving their lives and beening mamed for this Country)demands it and we must show respect and support our military. I have a family of approximately 435+ and the majority has served in the military since WWI to present; and the majority is reregistering as independent we are not going to be loyal to a party that does not (with all their education) open their eyes to the chaos in America and the fact we do not need another puppet in the Whitehouse. God Save this Country and Bless us ALL

Scully,

Obama was a State Senator at the time of the Iraq War Resolution vote -- he was only part of the Illinois State Legislature -- State Senators do not vote on anything having to do with national government. He never voted 'no' on anything in 2002 or 2003 or 2004 that had anything to do with Iraq. By the way, State Senators are only is session 55 days out of the year.

He was not elected a Senator til fall 2004 and took office in 2005. He couldn't have voted on IWR even if he wanted to. He started voting on national issues in 2005 after that election.

In fact, when he campaigned for Kerry in 2004, he said if he HAD been in the Senate at the time, he probably would have voted exactly as Kerry did (which, by the way is exactly as Hillary Clinton did) -- he would have voted "yes."

Could someone explain about Obama not being a Senator at the time of the war vote? This is the first I've really noticed anything about it. (And I read A LOT on him.) So, what am I missing here? What did he vote 'no' for?

Thanks! I just like to have my facts straight when talking to Obama supporters.

Thank you very much, Ani. Such an excellent letter addressing all the important points and exposing the twisted avenues the primary has taken and now continues in the GE, with all the DNC leaders' corrupt input. And your take on Gore is completely insightful. Thank you! I agree with the other posts that want to sign on to this outstanding statement and distribute it widely.

I believe Obama pressured Gore; that's why Gore came out now. (If Gore truly believed Obama was best for the country, he'd have come out months ago in Obama's favor.)

I think Gore wants that environmental cabinet level post -- or at least that it be made (if he doesn't hold it, the fact that it'll be a cabinet-level position means Gore's life work meant something -- maybe Gore needs that positive affirmation?) -- and that's the leverage Obama has over him.

I know Gore doesn't care for Hillary Clinton personally at all. However, his wife was friendly toward Mrs. Clinton while Mrs. Clinton was First Lady and Tipper Gore (Al's wife) also did her level best to help Mrs. Clinton get through that awful mess. She didn't have to do that, but did it as a woman of good conscience. (God bless her.)

At any rate, I will not vote for Obama and I have done the same thing as Ani did; I walked away from the Democratic Party for the same reasons (they've abandoned "fair reflection" and any pretense at democracy in favor of throwing an election in favor of a weak, ineffective, inexperienced candidate for whatever reasons) and am now an Independent.

While I will always respect Al Gore, he is not the keeper of my conscience -- or of my vote.

No to Obama.

[...] An Open Letter to Vice President Gore (By Ani at No Quarter) How can it be that Hillary Clinton, the candidate with the bold, progressive policies and clearly the most qualified of the bunch has also been unceremoniously kicked to the curb? Where are our ethics? Where is our common sense? Where is our love for the working people in this country who would most benefit from the amazing skill set, expertise and compassion she brings to the table?… The Presidency is bigger than any one person. It is not about sex, race, or age. We face some of the most serious challenges in our lifetime and cheap talk is not going to get the job done. With the unique perspective you possess, I would have thought you, of all people, would not allow another travesty of wrong, weak or questionable leadership to be foisted upon the American people.
Someone had a list of companies. Try over at camille424 word press blog and just post your question. Someone over there probably knows. I know GE is one.

I do not watch the news anymore. Once in awhile Lou Dobbs. But after a black woman he had on last night who is a radio host from Chicago who condoned booing of Clinton, I don't know if I can watch that anymore either. I already canceled the subscription to my local paper.
