Race-baiting, Iraq and a Link to Troubled Blagojevich

1) Paul Krugman, in Monday’s NYT, opines that the Bush tax cuts are a “poison pill” that any subsequent administration will have to overcome. While Krugman sees John McCain as continuing to support bad policy, he also chides Barack Obama for not being more forthcoming about how his tax plan would affect the budget.

Seems like the give aways of the last few years are about to bite our collective tushies.

2) The race-baiting of Obama supporters continues. Because a particular McCain organizer trying to work with Hillary supporters is also involved in protesting Sally Hemmings’ descendants being recognized as Thomas Jefferson’s descendants, those Hillary supporters she is talking with must be

it:

RACISTS!

This [people supposedly talking with the McCain organizer], of course, is the faction of Clinton supporters — people who don’t like black people — where McCain has a very good shot at picking up new voters. The people who backed Clinton on feminist grounds or because they thought she had the savvy to deliver big time progressive legislation probably won’t be following in Abeles’ footsteps.

So, Hillary supporters, make sure to VET anyone trying to talk with you about your potential vote. Talking with the wrong person might get you labeled a racist. . .

3) Looks like Obama is getting ready to use his passport. He announced today that he would visit Iraq and Afghanistan before the election. During a phone conversation with Iraqi foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, Obama assured the foreign minister the US would have no interest in permanent bases in Iraq should he become the president. Obama also said he would support the withdrawal of troops, with most being gone by 16 months.

Also covered in more detail here, Obama finished the conversation by saying he looked forward to a face to face meeting in Baghdad. Mr Zebari may have been more impressed by McCain, however, who spoke face to face with the foreign minister on Sunday.

4) A small thing, but potentially very interesting is a throw-away line from Rahm Emanuel in a piece by Nico Pitney at the HuffyPot, (google it – I don’t link to them). Emanuel is discussing how he had a terrible time waiting to see which friend (Hillary or Obama) would win the nomination.

On the other hand, Barack and Michelle are friends, he says. “I’ve known him a long time. We used to sit around helping our governor get elected, help those strategy meetings, stuff like that.”

Another blogger noted this statement in particular and said Emanuel thus linked Obama directly to embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

* I don’t recall ever hearing about this, but the Republicans now have an avenue to directly connect presidential candidate Barack Obama to our embattled, investigated, unpopular and all but humiliated Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Congresscritter Rahm Emanuel says Obama helped get Blagojevich elected…

————————

I’m assuming that since Emanuel said “elected,” he meant 2002, before it was widely known that Blagojevich had some seriously shady pals. Even so, Obama can now be tied to the Blagojevich shipwreck. Not good.

Rezkowatch picked up on this as well and added a couple of tidbits:

2. RW pointed out in the March 30, 2008, post DOJ Exhibit: Rezko’s Dirty Money—which discussed Prosecution exhibit: FBI analysis of Rezko fundraising for Blagojevich 2001-2004—that many of the same contributors who gave so generously to Blagojevich’s campaign via Tony Rezko also contributed to Obama’s political campaign coffers.

3. Evelyn Pringle pointed out in her series of articles that when a board deal went down in Illinois, and pay-to-play money exchanged hands, Blagojevich got his cut, and Obama got his.

This could be interesting. I haven’t seen anything tying Obama to Blagojevich either. Let’s see if this gets picked up anywhere.

5) In a rather petty but expected dig, Obama mentioned Google three times in a speech today. According to Ben Smith at Politico, this is code for “I know how to use a computer.” Probably Obama was oh-so-subtly trying to remind listeners that McCain, said “. . . it’s a Google” when responding to a question about locating information.

That Obama, he’s such a with it guy, up on all the tech lingo. I’ll be he’s been friended by everybody. BTW, any bets on how long it will be before we’re subjected to Obama podcasts??????

6) The Reaction covers the inception of a new NBC/MSNBC channel – the Eulogy Channel. If the link doesn’t work, it’s a google.

OT a tad, but research just showed the following:

Aside from all the crap about Obama being born in Kenya or the USA, based on the date of birth being a friday and registration a monday, another question arises:

Obama’s parents were married and lived in Maui, Obama’s grandparents lived in Honolulu, different islands. Women prefer to have a birth with their regular doctors, which Obama’s mothers was obviously in Maui. So why the Honolulu birth on Obama’s fake certificate unless:

Since it was summer, Obama’s father could have been in Kenya with his other wife at the time of Obama’s birth and his mother was with her parents for support?

Under Hawaiian and US regulations to protect Hawaiian native rights, claims and heritage measures in place at time of Obama’s birth in 1961, a new borns race is stated and determined solely by the attending parents race at the time of birth, if Obama Sr was not present, then the childs race was determined solely by the mothers race.

Therefore on Obama’s original birth certificate it could be that his race was designated as white.
This being the case, anyone talking about Obama cannot be called a racist unless it is attacking a white man as defined by his designation at the time of his birth.

Comment by stodghie | 2008-06-17 10:51:32

they were not legally married. his father already had a wife and children. duh!

I’ve never gotten an answer on that question.

I don’t think that affects Obama’s citizenship. Birth is birth. Don’t need a marriage certificate.

But it is curious that we might could call him a bastard and be politically correct. :)

Some fun stuff I copied from other sites to share with you guys!!

this is too funny to pass:

Obama-Kerry?

Editorial of The New York Sun June 17, 2008

The news that Senator Kerry’s name is on a list of potential running mates that Senator Obama is circulating on Capitol Hill, according to NBC News, was enough to get our attention. Maybe they meant the president of the New School, Robert Kerrey? Both men are decorated combat veterans of Vietnam that would bring Mr. Obama some of the national security heft he is apparently seeking in a vice presidential candidate. No, according to a report in yesterday’s New York Times, “During the course of two long dinners at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington this year and last, Mr. Obama sought the advice of Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.”

Ah, the Democrats, the party of the working man, where the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, lives in the Ritz-Carlton, and when the party’s two presidential nominees want to go out for dinner, they do it not over beer and burgers or Chinese food, but at the Four Seasons Hotel, where the dinner menu includes foie gras and a vodka-caviar gelée. What did they talk about? Whether Mr. Kerry’s Yale education was better than the one Mr. Obama got at Columbia and Harvard Law School? How Mr. Kerry dealt with the National Journal ranking as America’s most liberal senator, a mantle that was later assumed by Mr. Obama? How Mr. Obama can end the Iraq War with the same sort of retreat that Mr. Kerry precipitated in Vietnam? How Mr. Kerry’s alienation from Catholicism over abortion rights is similar to Mr. Obama’s problem with Trinity United?

If Mr. Obama hasn’t realized that a majority of Americans consider Mr. Kerry to be insufferable and many a phony more suited to being president of France than of America, he deserves the Massachusetts senator as a running mate. Given Mr. Obama’s recent propensity for policy pirouettes, maybe he’d be a perfect match with the senator famous for being for funding the troops in Iraq before he voted against it. What a team. What a party. With this ticket the Republicans could just let the television late-night talk show joke-writers run the campaign against the Democrats. That’s not to say there isn’t a tradition of wealthy, patrician presidential candidates from the Democratic Party winning support from working-class Americans. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the best example. But for a candidate like Mr. Obama, who lost white blue-collar voters in the primary to Senator Clinton, to be considering Mr. Kerry of Nantucket, Georgetown, and Beacon Hill as a running mate over dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington — well, we wouldn’t want to make too much of it, but we wouldn’t want to make too little of it, either.

Comment by Fred C. Dobbs | 2008-06-17 12:39:08

The R-C probably has a sign for them: “Two Dipshits! NO Waiting!!!”

Re: point 5 – I think one of America’s most-ignored priorities is increasing emphasis on STEM (sci/tech/engineering/math) education and jobs in the coming decades to counteract outsourcing.

I expected John McCain to have the advantage on this one, but seriously – he admits to not knowing how to use a computer? How can you expect me to believe he can develop a reasonable technology policy?

Comment by power coast FL dave | 2008-06-17 11:10:07

Computer boys can’t analyze for shit, not for SHIT, are not original.

Or smart.

Get it?

The larger issue is the ability to analyze information, which is what you’re really asking.

Reality means this is not an issue for McCain if he still understands the information. Accessing it, well, anyone can do it.

Look at our lil trolls…

Computer boys lost Iraq, for all the google in the world, and C++ knowledge, you have to look at the larger trends, here, tech has been stagnant, isn’t where it’s at, really, tech is a tool, in no way indicative of intellect, or capability. My keyboard has a MIDI function for writing music, I still have to supply the originality, I still see the need for originality, even though my Yamaha will write, and play, a song for me, with a one note input. Computer boys don’t know why this is inferior to Ives, say.

Computers are no different from a telephone, in the long run, sorry, woe to the individual who thinks a virus is the single answer to control.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Larry is better, that’s why a lot of us are here, he nails it, gets it, polls an afterthought, due to his inherient intellect, he can think.

No, some are brilliant, but not this group, this is the group that thinks they are elite, for their highly limited ability to speak in rudimentary simple numbers, as opposed to understanding the implications of those numbers.

It’s like memorizing the numbers 1-5, and declaring yourself a genius, thinking that because as a resident of Springfield IL who has visited only Chicago, you have seen the universe, you’re sophisticated, well traveled, and elite.

Not true, at all.

And what YOU see in Chicago, and what I see in Chicago are two vastly different things, it depends on the viewer.

You know, there’s a reason blogs like BusyMom get 10 times the traffic of political stories and blog posts. The “mommy blogs” deal in reality.

Geez. The endorsement even made network news. What does NBC think? That its 1970 and it still controls the message? Hello!

Democrats Face Budget Shortfall For Convention
Facing an $11.6 million budget shortfall, organizers of the Democratic National Convention are cutting events …

The convention’s Denver host committee reported it has deposited $29 million of the $40.6 million it promised to the Democratic National Committee by a Monday deadline. The overall convention budget is about $70 million.

I have a little challenge for our Obamaton posters.

There’s a big difference of philosophy in this campaign. I’m running against a man of Washington, by Washington and for Washington. Ours is a campaign that stands squarely on the side of the people and the families and the workers of America.

It’s time for new leadership to bring Republicans and Democrats together, to be able to say to our seniors “a promise made will be a promise kept,” to reject the old-style politics that tries to frighten seniors into the voting booth, to reject all that old business of trying to tear somebody down while the issues still remains.

I’m sure you can recognize the hopey changey feeling in those quotes, so tell me what speech they are from. And I’ll give you 1 tiny hint. The candidate raised more money for his campaign than any previous candidate in history.

I called ABC and spoke to a very nice lady, she told me among Most Likely To Vote McCain leads Obama 48 – 47, but that is within the margin of error so it’s essentially a dead heat. Very bad news for Obama, the DNC, the MSM, Moveon, DU, Huffingtonpost, etc…

Actually, what Hillary said was:

Zeke I have spent a “much” time there”… :) and you are corrert, there are years worth of reading.

The house was put in a numbered trust, but valsthewoman implied something I had not heard of so I was curious to what she referred to.

records show that Barack and Michelle Obama established a land trust to purchase the property and took out a $1.32 million mortgage on the home, financed through the Northern Trust Co.,

What is interesting is that disclosure of principles of the trust are not required by Illinois law to be public. So at the time the Obama’s might not have been the only principles of the trust. Rezko did this with Jamil JR and is being sued over it. Everything Rezko touched was either trust or layered LLC.

(This was mention in relation to a recent story on Dennis Hastert’s use of a land trust and 350 mil in pork for a major road to built near said property….)

BO’s house was put in a trust on the advice of Rezko. Rezko funded it, did the walk thru, and became a flight risk because of it.

Ask Rezko. The trust was the entity “getting the loan”.

BTW, Bush also had some background issues that he didn’t want the public to know. So you know what he said? “Why can’t we stick to the issues…”

Sound familiar, trolls?

Comment by POdVet | 2008-06-17 12:31:26

I couldn’t agree more, even the descriptions of the campaigns are similar. In 2000 this is how GW’s campaign was described:”The money he has raised along with the support he has received, while articulating no real message for America’s future is amazing. His popularity is a classic example of the bandwagon.”

George W. Bush at a rally in Michigan just before the 2000 elections…

“It’s (the country) ready for bipartisan leadership.

It is ready for a leader who will bring this great country together. No, that’s what this country wants. They want a leader who understands how to lead, how to bring folks together to achieve the people’s business. As you’re out campaigning for us, make sure you talk about the issues, because people when they hear it are going to find out, we stand squarely with the people.

There’s a big difference of philosophy in this campaign. I’m running against a man of Washington, by Washington and for Washington. Ours is a campaign that stands squarely on the side of the people and the families and the workers of America.”

Now, Bush’s ideas were definitely conservative, but his message was that he was a different kind of candidate.

Comment by Vince P | 2008-06-17 12:49:23

Bush was running on his TX experience where he was able to achieve a measure of bipartisan (so I hear.. I’m from Chicago)

The Democrats in Washington had no intention on working with him

It’s not his fault.

Bush is a very moderate conservative.. that the Dems were able to make him out to be Pat Buchanon is just a demostration of how effectively they demonized him.

Comment by etc. | 2008-06-17 12:54:06

I didn’t like Obama’s “bitter” comments one bit, but taken as a whole, I like him as a candidate. It took no mental gyrations to do so. To be honest Hillary lost my vote in October 2002. Figure it out.

The other so called “gates” never bothered me. I think you need to WANT to see scandles there to actually think they constitute serious scandles. No mental gyrations required. The Clintons have also had clouds of suspicion over them in a number of “gate” type situations… and they came out stronger.

That’s OK. You’re a “war voter.” I’ve never been a single-issue voter, but there were a lot of you this year.

And good for you for being curious enough to actually want to see how we’re thinking.

Hopefully, you can cut the wheat from the chaff. If not, that’s OK, too.

There are some very serious and real issues we’re bringing to the table.

We may lose. But we’re not going to stop making it an issue.

You lost the war vote, with the public.

Democrats I’d admired for years lost their seats due to voting against Bush.

That was a “war-time mentality” nationalistic period.

I understand that you dug in your heels.

Even me, who says, “Wait….let’s see if we can emerge here without another Viet Nam defeat,” knows that this was not a justifiable war.

It may well kill the US, too, due to the cost.

I’ve always thought we’ll be defeated just how we defeated Russia. They’ll bankrupt us. LOL*

(I laugh, because I’ll be dead.)

But I do get your perspective. And I always respect someone who truly wishes to hear out the other side.

I posted for months at HuffPo for the same reason. I was always respectful that I was the minority voice.

Still…..I got booted. But that’s HuffPo.

This site isn’t into that kind of manipulation.

I will vote for Johnny because it’s a good test of the “Democratic Legislative Majority.”

They’ll have to WORK to get legislation passed. De Facto President Harry Reid and De Facto VP Nancy Pelosi will have their work cut out for them, crafting INTELLIGENT law and whipping the shit out of a recalcitrant group of slackers to ensure that legislation is put forward in an expiditious fashion, and anything vetoed by Johnny gets Ye Olde Override in short order.

Johnny will have to deal with those two, and they’ll throw him a bone every so often so he can create an untrue impression that he’s a Party Line Crosser Who Gets Things Done–that way, he’ll be less inclined to use the Bully Pulpit to get everyone’s balls all discombobulated and have a big fat pie fight going on constantly….if McCain can make his tenure look like Ike’s, he’ll be a HERO. If the leadership in Congress can get our agenda through the pipeline without angst, THEY’LL be heroes, too. Everyone wins.

People ARE tired of DRAMA. And Obama-Drama is particularly tiresome.

Though my choice remains HRC, I can deal with four years of Johnny. He doesn’t scare me a bit. Harry and Nance will just have to pinch his cheek and “deal” with him every so often. But politics IS the art of compromise.

They keep rerunning the hooting/booing/derision of Governor Granholm in heavy rotation. All that shit does is make party loyalists, who have been with the party for decades, have less angst about raising that middle finger and telling Howard and his posse to go fuck themselves.

They HOPE to CHANGE this site by drowning out our voices with their cacophony. Their actions are evidence that they lack the notion and spirit of equality, fraternity, and liberty that, as an ideal, founded the modern Western democracies and republics. Comment by Mr.Murder | 2008-06-17 12:16:06

Obama letting McCain lead the way. Issues a statement after McCain has already been there. The main reason both are going there, to raise funds for their campaigns.

The US economy is contracting at an alarming rate already and many donors are maxed at this time, thus he tries to take on new bundlers, like Code Pink.

Obama is trying to ring up Clinton donors through Doyle(that’s a reach) and McCain has to go overseas to fund raise now. There’s no ‘there’ for Barack when he thinks ‘there’ is Clinton money for him, the way he campaigned and had his people villify Clinton voters, so he best copy John McCain and go overseas to get some new money.

He’s a step behind McCain in directing diplomatic visits. For someone who supposedly has diplomacy in mind to replace war, he’s lacking critically in those departments, minus a visit to his terrorist relative in Kenya, who has come here to visit now?

Guess who’s coming to dinner. Butchered women and children on the menu? Odingapalooza will continue its terror tour. The money is coming to Barack after all, it’s blood money. Wonder if Odinga is connecting the Ayers umbrella of NGO?

Obama also cares about Afghanistan enough to not hold European Affairs subcommittee meetings. Et tu, NATO?

She lied…there were a lot of govt reports that had imagined planes as missles.

There are still a lot of great people in govt who tried to offer their best advice to the Bush Admin.

Which makes opposing Obama so important.

It is WHO is listening to those great people that makes the difference.

You think BO will hit Auchi’s new Bank in Kenya? I think BO needs some “micro” loans…

Dear Uppity,

Your response might be too cogent for the observation-neutral theorists who are trying this location for their kool-aid stand. Shouldn’t their polling tell them that our demographic likes real juice?

Yours,
Steven

Does Obama have two birth certificates

Are There Two Obama Birth Certificates?
HillBuzz weighs in on the Obama birth certificate controversy–the candidate’s refusal to release a copy to clear up doubts about his place of birth:
In Kenya, where Obama’s father is from, a second birth certificate for Obama was issued and registered with Kenya’s government. This is a custom in Kenya, when a baby is born to a Kenyan citizen overseas: that birth is recorded in Kenya in addition to the United States, or wherever. The blogs have been buzzing with the fact that GOP operatives have been to Kenya researching Obama’s past, and Obama’s father and other family in Kenya, and it appears they have obtained a copy of Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate.
The reason this is interesting is something no one has caught yet.
In some foreign countries, a baby’s religion is written on the birth certificate, particularly in countries with multiple religions. If Kenya is a country that requires this note on a birth certificate, and if Obama’s father had “Muslim” written on his birth certificate, then Obama has a lot of explaining to do.
The existence of a Kenyan birth certificate could account for this headline in USAfrficaOnline: http://www.usafricaonline.com/news.html

Is Obama’s new strategy to copy what McCain says and does? He’s going abroad? Me too.

Why not? He spent the whole primary copying Hillary’s policies.

I personally think Obama’s failure to placate his base……is a huge indicator that he lacks real judgment.

He insulted his mentor.

That’s that.

Boy, I bet the Dem’s are happy they picked Obama! Since his debacle of not vetting the vetter VP committee..now comes word there are 6 Democrats that also got sweet deals from Countrywide. One being Sen. Dodd of CT who is on the list for VP. They must be so proud!

Dodd and Conrad, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, denied they had sought out or received any special deals.

“I was never told I was given preferential treatment. I didn’t ask for it, didn’t seek it, and as far as I know, I didn’t get it,” Conrad was quoted as saying by the Post.

Dodd, who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick, said: “As a United States senator, I would never ask or expect to be treated differently than anyone else refinancing their home.”

The reports come shortly after former Fannie Mae chief executive Jim Johnson was forced to resign as an adviser to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama following a report in the Wall Street Journal alleging he received favorable treatment on loans from Countrywide.

Should be easy to verify. Countrywide was a publicly-traded company at the time and I DO believe that the records are Public.

If not, certainly subject to a Congressional subpoena.

Countrywide has been slimy for years.

They tried to steal my friend’s house which they bought with a VA loan.

They had made payment arrangements and rather than honor those, Countrywide made an immediate demand to the VA to pay off the loan.

I informed her, now that they falsely demanded the full amount in a letter, she could sue them and have them pay the entire loan.

She had been trying to get them to honor the payment arrangement and they basically told her, oh well. Until she came back with the collection law info about demanding the full amount.

Then they were all nice and accommodating about the arrangement and withdrew the demand from the VA.

Hillary must have a smile on her face, sitting back and watching all this unfold.

I really hope she has something up her sleeve and will somehow run in the fall so we can have a respectable Democrat to vote for.

The McCain/Clinton ticket would be a sure winner!
