Obama Throws Muslims Under the Bus Too

It’s Headscarves-gate.

Barack Obama is going to great lengths to distance himself from his father and step-father’s Muslim backgrounds. He even joined a radical so-called Christian church and was a member for 20 years just to dispel the notion. But now that he is a big shot Presidential candidate he has taken this distancing stuff to the extreme. His message to supporters: No head scarves allowed in any photographs with The One. If you are Muslim and you support Barack Obama, you are going to have to look like regular folk or you won’t be included.

Muslims barred from picture at Obama event

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit on Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The Obama of course immediately apologized when the women went public with their displeasure (and not before). But we are used to this. Obama does one thing. People react badly to what he does. Obama suddenly appears to change course and offers an apology. Well, his WORMs do.

“This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. “We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers.”

It’s always the same response. Here is the short version:

We are so deeply sorry that you were offended by what you perceived to be a sleight to your character. Please know that what happened to you is completely contrary to Senator Obama’s message of hope and unity. Therefore he couldn’t possibly have meant to harm you in any way. Don’t start acting like those bitter people now. Senator Obama really loves you like he does all of his children. Really, he does.

The two women that this happened to were flabbergasted.

“I was coming to support him, and I felt like I was discriminated against by the very person who was supposed to be bringing this change, who I could really relate to,” said Hebba Aref, a 25-year-old lawyer who lives in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills. “The message that I thought was delivered to us was that they do not want him associated with Muslims or Muslim supporters.”

I can really feel for this lady. yep, lots of folks are bamboozled into believing Obama’s message only to find out that the reality of it is that he discriminates against a lot of folks. It happens all the time. Not to seem non empathetic but get used to it. They don’t call him Snobama for nothing.

In fact, this wasn’t an accident at all. It was a carefully calculated political ploy to present a non-threatening message to the voters. A shame that the actual message it sent was one of hate and exclusion.

That incident began when the volunteer asked Aref’s friend Ali Koussan and two other friends, Aref’s brother Sharif and another young lawyer, Brandon Edward Miller, whether they would like to sit behind the stage. The three young men said they would, but mentioned they were with friends.

The men said the volunteer, a twenty-something African-American woman in a green shirt, asked if their friends looked and were dressed like the young men, who were all light-skinned and wearing suits. Miller said yes, but mentioned that one of their friends was wearing a headscarf with her suit.

The volunteer “explained to me that because of the political climate and what’s going on in the world and what’s going on with Muslim Americans, it’s not good for [Aref] to be seen on TV or associated with Obama,” said Koussan, who is a law student at Wayne State University.

Both Koussan and Miller said they specifically recalled the volunteer citing the “political climate” in telling them they couldn’t sit behind Obama.

“I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. Are you serious?’” Koussan recalled.

As SusanUnPC explained in her excellent piece, “Brit Hume Raises the Question of Barack Obama’s Muslim Background,” Obama is going to great lengths to distance himself from his own heritage. Why else would the campaign be hiding his real birth certificate? And just why would his supposed Anti-Smear Website go so far as to blatantly lie about his real Muslim background? How else do you explain this?

Muslinsmear

This incident might have everything to do with the “political climate” and all. But from where I sit, the climate is going to start heating up around Senator Obama. Very Soon!

Obama minders please be aware,

Several of us will be looking to appear behind Obama at open events. We are all across the country. We look respectable. But once the cameras are on we will don multi-colored afro wigs and hold up cloth signs saying “Obama 3:16″ Then we will chant “For God so loved the world that he gave us Obama, and whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” To make the message get through we will hand out cards with this message.

(We might have to think that over…the ObamaMessiahBots might see nothing wrong with that, but it would confirm the righteousness of their adulation.)

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-18 14:38:55

lol* Personally, after seeing the MI tape of his rallies, no way in heck would I ever attend his event. Way too scary!

Comment by Jack | 2008-06-18 14:57:43

Also funny is the Obama counter-propaganda planted in this story,

On the Republican side, a Hispanic New Hampshire Democrat, Roberto Fuentes, told Politico that he was recently asked, and declined, to contribute to the “diversity” of the crowd behind Sen. John McCain at a Nashua event.

ONly an Obamabot would believe McCain wouldn’t want a Hispanic face behind him. Both campaigns are about empty images. The Obama counter-prop guy didn’t have the nerve to lie and say he was a Republican, thus averting questions that the snub he received was due to something else than his skin.

Comment by Elizabeth | 2008-06-18 23:32:05

And why would it be scary to you AnninCa?? He can’t win for losing, right? You know darn well that had someone wearing a headscarf appeared behind Obama at a political rally, all hell would break – and the whole muslim thing would start up again. He is not a Muslim but with people like you, he will always be associated with whatever is ‘evil’ to the racist narrow-minded people of this country. don’t deny it…he scares you.

The new CNN article has follow-up info

[Hebba] Aref, a 25-year-old lawyer, said a member of her group was told by a volunteer that she could not invite Aref because of “a sensitive political climate.”

A lawyer!

Obama spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement saying such actions are “not the policy of the campaign.”

“It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run. We sincerely apologize for this behavior,” the statement read.

Aref said she replied by thanking Burton, but requested Obama apologize directly to her and Abdelfadeel, as well as invitations to sit behind him at a future campaign event. Obama spokeswoman Amy Brundage said the campaign has apologized.

Go Hebba Go!

“He needs to take the matter seriously and send a strong message against any kind of discrimination,” Aref said.

Hebba, you’re a lawyer. Sue! Sue! Surely this counts as a legitimate discrimination case, and with a public facility to boot!

Still, she said, it was difficult to hear a Obama’s message of unity among races.

“As he’s saying it, I’m thinking, ‘Well, wait a minute, I was obviously … profiled and discriminated against an hour ago.”‘

Hebba, you need to visit the following address,

Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse
231 W. Lafayette Blvd.

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080618/NEWS07/80618043

And even more from the local Detroit paper,

[Hebba]said she’d like more than an apologetic phone call from a campaign official. “I was kind of in shock that had happened,” said Aref, a Bloomfield Hills resident and graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. “I’ve lived here practically my whole life, and never been treated that way. It’s so ironic that it was at his rally, he obviously would not promote any discrimination at all.”

Michigan law school. She must be very smart!

Aref said she received a phone call and apology from an Obama campaign offiicial, but said that’s not enough.

“I do appreciate they’re taking the time to look into what happened,” Aref said. “I think it’s a huge deal. I was hoping for an apology from Sen. Obama himself. He needs to send a strong message this kind of discrimination won’t be tolerated.”

That sounds like she’s setting up a law suit. Sue! Sue!

Aref said one aide told her friends that because of a sensitive political environment, Obama should not be photographed with Muslims wearing head scarves.

Aref’s aunt, Dr. Eman Salem, a Bloomfield Hills anesthesiologist, said she was outraged when she learned of what had happened to her niece at the rally.

“This is an insult to all Muslims,” said Salem, 50, a Canadian citizen who said she’s worked in the U.S. for five years. “I wouldn’t take my hijab off for anyone. It doesn’t prevent Muslims from accomplishing anything. We take pride in our religion and we take pride in our citizenship.”

Smart family, with money too. Anesthesiologist? They know how to shut people up. Sue!

“This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run…”

Oh bull!

If that’s so, why have we never seen a scarf-covered head in the crowd behind Obama during this entire campaign? Why have we never seen a photo of Obama posing with a scarf-wearing muslim on the campaign trail? Why have we never seen a photo of a scarf-covered muslim even in a crowd around Obama?

Are we to think that no female muslims support Obama? NONE??? Really???

Isn’t this muslim sexism? Muslim men can pass but muslim women can’t – in the all-inclusive, unity campaign of Barack Obama.

Adviser denies Obama showed naivete on Jerusalem

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Democrat Barack Obama misused a “code word” in Middle East politics when he said Jerusalem should be Israel’s “undivided” capital but that does not mean he is naive on foreign policy, a top adviser said on Tuesday.

He has closed all doors to peace,” Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said after the June 4 speech.

Oh, my, that doesn’t sound good!

Daniel Kurtzer, who advises Obama on the Middle East, said Tuesday at the Israel Policy Forum that Obama’s comment stemmed from “a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones.”

“So he used a word to represent what he did not want to see again, and then realized afterwards that that word is a code word in the Middle East,” Kurtzer said.

Uh, whatever.

One member of the audience who said the remark — and its subsequent clarifications — did not speak well of Obama’s foreign policy knowledge.

The comment was so pro-Israeli even the Israelis denounced it!

Pagan Power, I think this story might deserve it’s own posting.

Being a skin cancer sufferer and desert offroader in my (copious, thanks to the Bush Recession) spare time, I own AND WEAR a Kaffiyeh.

It doesn’t look ANYTHING like a Rachel Ray scarf, thank you very much. It looks much more like required dress at a r**head hoe-down and RPG Swapmeet.

(I bought the MF’er, and 5 more like it, in The Emirates, and I’m KEEPIING them!)

And, since I have a real, “Air’s FREE!” schnozzola and an Iraqi Army/LAPD moustache, I have learned not to wear it in town. I was pulled over for a Meet and Greet by some donut munchers in Calaveras County, who (1) didn’t think camel jockeys came in my size, and (2) had a lot of trouble understanding my VERY thick “Southern accent,” which overcame me about the time they told me to do the “South Central LA Macarena,” against the hood of my Jeep.

Anyway, my point is, a Burka is pretty big to carry, even folded up, but a Kaffiyeh will go in the pocket of Levis and can be donned and tied in 4 seconds.

Just a suggestion, to those who’d brave a bad case of cooties to attend on Obama.

Get seated, put on your CATERPILLAR ball cap, then switch to your Camel Jockey Boralino when the cameras swing your way!

Did you come into this election in the middle? MSNBC was taking a poll for months and listed every candidate and every position they took and Obama wasn’t even close to Senator Clinton’s positions. (Actually, I don’t think he had done enough work in the Senate to know what he thought.)

As she laid out her proposals, Obama snatched them up. I know because I read every candidate’s health care proposals, every candidate’s Iraq war proposals, every candidate’s economic and energy proposals before the field dwindled to three and the word “ditto” started describing Obama’s “plans” late in the primaries. I suppose it is better to imitate the best but why settle for the copy if you can get the real thing cheaper?

His new NAFTA stance should help out nicely in Ohio, don’t you think?

The general campaign is on, independent voters up for grabs, and Barack Obama is toning down his populist rhetoric – at least when it comes to free trade.

In an interview with Fortune to be featured in the magazine’s upcoming issue, the presumptive Democratic nominee suggests he doesn’t want to unilaterally blow up NAFTA after all.

“Sometimes during campaigns the rhetoric gets overheated and amplified,” he conceded, after I reminded him that he had called NAFTA “devastating” and “a big mistake,” despite nonpartisan studies concluding that the trade zone has had a mild, positive effect on the U.S. economy.

Does that mean his rhetoric was overheated and amplified? “Politicians are always guilty of that, and I don’t exempt myself,” he answered.
In the up-coming Fortune magazine. The above is from CNN.com

Ask his brother http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/12918.htm
Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt — contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.

As the Jerusalem Post reports, “Barack Obama’s half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya.”

The Obama brothers’ father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children – except Malik — live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in 1985 in the US.

“He was best man at my wedding and I was best man at his,” said Malik in a 2004 interview with an AP reporter. Their paternal grandfather, Onyango Hussein Obama, was one of the first Muslim converts in Nyangoma-Kogelo, Malik said

I know of four fund raisers and voter registration drives this weekend just in my town alone. I’m personally donating to BO, DNC ,DNConvention and MoveOn every week. I also gave your Priestess money to pay her bills. It won’t work if your only inspired by hate.

San Francisco Chronical, August 2004. Let’s see if Kerry is any where near the man that McCain is.

‘The TV spots became a center of controversy Thursday when McCain, in an interview with the Associated Press, harshly criticized the ad.

“It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me,” McCain said, referring to attacks on his military record during the 2000 Republican primary race by supporters of Bush. At the time, Kerry and other senators who served in Vietnam came to McCain’s defense. Kerry and McCain also worked together in the 1990s on resolving the question of American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam, which led to normalized relations between the countries.

“I deplore this kind of politics,” McCain told the Associated Press. “I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.”

Have you told your Master that it won’t work if he only inspires hate? He really needs to hear your message because he seem inordinately proud to have Senator Clinton under his heel. And by the way, your message of “See what you made me do!” also falls on deaf ears but keep up your work for redemption with your contributions to Senator Clinton.

Its ashame that Obama has take these kind of steps because some of you americans would attack Obama for allowing Muslim women dressed headscarves in a photo op……. Its sad for the women and our nation….That Some Pubies will stoop this low to attack a presidential canadit for such a photo……. I’m just glad Obama’s people recognized that this could become an issue…..When in fact it should be a non-issue….

This comment appears attached to the poolitico article this noquarter item references.

This is why i dispise obama supporters.

They take something that the obama campaign people do and spin it as the fault of the rest of america.

HOW IN THE F*CK IS IT AMERICAN’S FAULTS THAT THIS OBAMA AID DISCRIMINATED AGAINST A MUSLIM BECAUSE OF HER RELIGIOUS ATTIRE? WHAT KIND OF F*CKED UP REASONING DO YOU NEED TO JUSTIFY YOUR SHITTY DISCRIMINATION AS A RESULT OF PERCIEVED BIGOTRY THAT YOU PROJECT ON THE REST OF AMERICA AS A WAY TO JUSTIFY YOUR OWN HEINOUS ACTIONS??

Oh thats right, you take your queues from your Shitty Presumptive Seleccident. Just like he blamed the rest of Amerikkka for Nutjob Wrights views and racism and made it our fault that an adult would spew hate, his campaign opperatives shit on people and then blame the rest of america as the reason they have to do it.

Bacrack Obullshit and His Shitty Campaign of racebaitors mysogynists hatemongers cheaters and discriminators make me want to vomit.

Comment by PaganPower | 2008-06-18 15:20:18

Actually we were only wondering what all the secrecy is over his birth certificate. He is hiding something. If he wants to dispel the rumors he should just provide a REAL copy of it and those nasty rumors would all go away.

Comment by beebop | 2008-06-18 15:41:00

Honey, sweetie, your reading and retention skills could use some brushing up … and not off your shoulders, either!

The main point of the discussion was what is Obama hiding? Get it? Why hide his birth certificate? The rest was speculation. Why put out the phony bologna? Why make yourself look silly? Why bloviate? What’s wrong with your birth certificate? Does it say you’re not American? Does it say you’re WHITE? Does it say you’re a bastard? What is so wrong with your birth certificate that you would go to these lengths to keep it under lock and key?

Don’t ever presume that you and I think alike.

You and your viewpoints disgust me.

Comment by damned if you do | 2008-06-18 15:12:08

My “viewpoints” disgust you? That I don’t want a Republican in the White House? That I want the war in Iraq to end? That I think we need universal health care? That I think off-shore drilling is not a solution to the energy crisis? The Democratic Party is on the right side of every issue that actually matters in this election. Since this place claims to be a Democratic blog, I would think that you might realize that. This devotion to Hillary borders on Jonestown or Mussolini judging by some of the vitriol here. It’s the issues and the policies that matter most. This country is bigger than any one person. I would have said the exact same thing if pissed off Obama people were complaining that he came in second place. Someone wins and someone loses in a nominating process. I’m truly sorry that your candidate lost, but trying to bring about four years of a disastrous President McCain administration solves nothing. Moreover, this belief that someone such a scenario would guarantee a President Hillary in 2012 is naive at best. Republicans wouldn’t vote for her, and if she’s blamed for Obama’s defeat, you better believe that African Americans will never vote for her. You people like to hurl around 18 million a lot, as if Hillary supporters are sheep like robots engaged in groupthink. But, assuming that you are sheep, how would you get more than 18 million to vote for you in this hypothetical 2012 election if you continue to burn bridges in 2008. Oh, by the way, where’s the “whitey” tape. I mean, if a blog cared about its credibility, it would verify a rumor before hyping it for a week.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-18 15:24:59

I stand by Democratic Party principles, which were grossly violated this year.

I have no interest in supporting this “new” Democratic Party.

Over 30 years…and I’m outta there. I’m going to support moderate candidates, regardless of their party affiliation.

I have no interest in joining the ugliness of the Obama campaign or his supporters. I have no interest in supporting the way the elite have raced to bow to him.

I have huge respect for the Latino congresspeople today who refused to attend his group meeting with them. He tried to package them up in one lump. They were rightfully offended. They showed their feelings by simply not going.

I’m going to support THOSE Democrats. I’m going to find out the names of the 100 SD’s who not only didn’t endorse him but apparently aren’t going to attend the Convention, because they are so disgusted by the antics this year.

I’m going to support the Democrats who endorsed Hillary and showed real guts in standing up to the bully surrogates from Obama’s campaign.

I’m going to support organizations such as the PUMA PAC in its effort to Just Say No to this “new” Democratic party. And like Mayor Nutter said, I don’t care if comes down to just me and one other person. I don’t make decisions based on gang thinking.

I’m done with this new Democratic Party. It doesn’t even remotely look like the party I supported for 30 years.

I’m disgusted by you…. Maybe if you step back from the ignorant fog surrounding your head and listen to What Wright said, you would find that it wasn’t racist. Please explain what he said that was racist.

What you didn’t like was his character and delivery and someone told you it was racist and you believed.

If I were AA and said that there were alot of meth users in the white community, would that be racist? But If I said it in the manner that Wright preaches and you only heard 30 sec of what was being said you may misconstrue the message.

I will admit that Wright is way too egotistical and flamboyant for my taste but what I didn’t hear was 20 years worth of racism or hate.

Like send them hundreds of millions MORE Dolars and Euros to steal.

No mention of RACE, there. No mention of AA’s in the US or Europe…

And the comments I got from Obamabots started with, “You Racist Fuck,” and asking me if I’d ever actually BEEN to Africa, Haiti or Oakland.

(Actually, Beth, no. I just got my check from UNHCR every month – $50 says you don’t know what those letters stand for, and if you DO, you couldn’t name the one for Africa – cashed it at the Circle K, made up some stats, Photoshopped the pics from old National Geographics spreads, FedEx’ed it all to Geneva and watched re-runs of, “Dukes of Hazzard,” with a hooker. Those three cases of dysentery and one of malaria I contracted were from Bad Shellfish in Oakland…)

So largely, I find that Obamabots are a walking, talking Visual Aid in a much-needed campaign to curb unregulated procreation.

Scary thing is, in ten more years, this asshole WILL represent the average American.

I teeter on depression, thinking that I gave up several years of my life for LESS than minimum wage, murdering strangers with whom I had no quarrel, just so that every day, in every way, Talking Turds are free to express themselves.

I believed then that we were shooting the WRONG Vietnamese, and I can’t imagine any merit in anyone wasting the sweat of their scrota to secure rights or freedoms for these people.

Looking into Canadian emigration, even as we speak. Socialism doesn’t bother me a lot, but Stupid makes me puke.

Ummm…I agree with yourpoint, but you may be fuzzy on the details.

The Cuban Agustment Act of 1966 means that foot-dry Cubans get a hearing. Of course, since they hardly come ashore in Iowa or Indiana, they always get to stay, unless they were convicted scumbags in Cuba.

Foot-wet Cubans go back to try again.

Haitians and all the rest, unless they elude the Migras, go right back to the seconds oldest Deomcracy in the Western Hemisphere, Heaven on Earth, to wit, Haiti.

More lack of international knowledge:

One might expect a Constitutional law expert to understand the historical record of the Nuremberg trials, especially if using them as an example in his speeches. Unfortunately, Barack Obama showed his lack of preparation yet again in Pennsylvania as he praised the Boumediene decision by the Supreme Court last week. Obama claimed that it represented a return to American values as represented by the Nuremberg trials — which actually didn’t allow habeas corpus through American civil courts at all:

Obama a former senior lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, cited “that principle of habeas corpus, that a state can’t just hold you for any reason without charging you and without giving you any kind of due process — that’s the essence of who we are. I mean, you remember during the Nuremberg trials, part of what made us different was even after these Nazis had performed atrocities that no one had ever seen before, we still gave them a day in court and that taught the entire world about who we are but also the basic principles of rule of law. Now the Supreme Court upheld that principle yesterday.”

(Though Obama was clearly referring to the principle of giving criminals a day in court, it’s worth pointing out the distinction here, that the Nuremberg trials did not give Nazi war criminals access to U.S. courts, but to a special international military tribunal created by the U.S., USSR, France and the U.K. Though Nuremberg currently is considered a model for international law, it’s not as if Rudolph Hess had access to challenge his detention in U.S. federal court.)

Well, the prisoners at Gitmo as of now haven’t been charged with anything. Bush and company might have been able to get away with their “enemy combatant” rationale if they even made a half-way good faith effort to file charges in a timely fashion. Of course, they did this little legal maneuvering in order to torture the prisoners outside of the jurisdiction of the Geneva Conventions. Say, did the Allies wait until 1951 to start the Nuremberg Trials? Nope, it only took them six months from the end of hostilities in Europe to convene their tribunal. The prisoners at Gitmo are close to their seventh year of captivity without charges. I know the Bushies like to think of Iraq in the same terms of World War II, but are the Iraquis really a worse threat than the Nazis?

I’m just curious–why are you so certain that a couple of volunteer advance staffers coordinated this action with the campaign, such that Obama’s repudiation of this exclusion somehow represents a change of tactics for the sake of convenience? The very story you linked to seems to offer support for the premise that these staffers were actually at odds with the campaign’s normal way of populating stages for Obama speeches; it mentions that Obama posed with a group of students, including a woman wearing a hijab, yesterday morning, which appears to be before this story broke. It also mentions that during a rally in Seattle earlier this year, a couple dressed in “Muslim garb” (I’m not certain what that phrase means, but a headscarf would be a logical part of it) appeared on stage with Obama. Given that, it really does sound like the mistake of two volunteer staffers who may have coordinated with one another, but were almost certainly not getting their orders from Obama HQ.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-18 14:55:30

I’m sure you’re right. Obama certainly has no accountability for the people who organize the stage.

Shoot, they don’t work for him. :)

Comment by Anon21 | 2008-06-18 15:28:14

They work for him, of course, as the janitors who clean the White House work for George W. Bush. But if we found out tomorrow that White House janitors had been using some cleaning product with really toxic ingredients, I doubt our first instinct would be to blame Bush directly for the problem (well, maybe yours would)–we would probably want to know if the janitors’ immediate supervisor, or perhaps whoever is in charge of facilities management at the White House, had OKed the use of this product. At the same time, we might recognize that if the controversy was of sufficient magnitude, it might be appropriate for Bush or a Bush spokesperson to issue an apology or affirm that the Administration’s policy is anti-poison.

Similarly, here we have some very junior people localized in a particular state (and possibly only volunteering for this one event, the article doesn’t really specify). They do something that I think we can all agree is bad. Direct responsibility lies with them, their supervisors, maybe the local/state campaign coordinator at worst. It makes not the slightest sense to attribute direct responsibility for this to Obama or his senior advisers, but they did the right thing by apologizing on behalf of the campaign as a whole, an organization with millions of volunteers, none of whom are receiving much guidance from campaign headquarters in terms of their day-to-day responsibilities.

Comment by Teakwood | 2008-06-18 18:29:09

janitors who clean the White House work for George W. Bush

Those individual DO NOT work for George Bush. They are civil servents who work for us! It is OUR White House.

Lets see by your own analogy she gets fired by Senator Clinton for ’cause then Obama hires some with a less than stellar track record of loyalty and competance. Sounds like Obama.

Comment by power coast FL dave | 2008-06-18 15:02:37

Possibly, sometimes it’s a weak OLD school attempt to maintain the candidates “integrity,” such as it is, by deflecting blame onto another.

He is his campaign, like Bush, the people who work for him are programmed as to when they can use the can, fercryingoutloud.

So, I have to disregard your analysis.

Creative freedom, like Warner Brothers Records, in the early 60’s, is antithical to “divide and conquer.”

D and C is Clay Aiken, American Idol, Rove, Obama, Bush and now the Democrats.

Comment by Anon21 | 2008-06-18 15:34:38

No. The people who work for him are not “programmed.” They’re volunteers, who probably receive some training, but who are also relied on to exercise good judgment in situations where the campaign isn’t telling them exactly what to do, as it obviously was not here. These two young women failed that “good judgment” test, but given that the campaign has demonstrated by actions both before and after this incident that it has no problem featuring women wearing headscarves in photos with Obama, the attempt to attribute direct responsibility to Obama or anyone close to him is a non-starter. The campaign was right to issue the apology; when volunteers or staffers or anyone does reprehensible stuff in the course of their campaign duties, that is appropriately addressed by reaffirming that the campaign does not stand for such conduct. But you shouldn’t confuse that with the underlying bad acts being somehow part of campaign policy, especially where, as here, all evidence indicates that this kind of screening is at direct odds with what the campaign has done in the past.

Comment by DoroB | 2008-06-18 19:58:23

You’re essentially saying what the Obama campaign said: they were shocked, upset, and didn’t know their volunteers had done that because it does not reflect their campaign policy at all.

I would have believed that if Obama wasn’t so actively trying to cover up his Muslim background on his Smears website.

Sorry but I’m not buying your Obama talking point.

sea of gaffes

BO.

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink ;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
The very deep did rot : O Christ !
That ever this should be !
Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea.

About, about, in reel and rout
The death-fires danced at night ;
The water, like a witch’s oils,
Burnt green, and blue and white.

And some in dreams assuréd were
Of the Spirit that plagued us so ;
Nine fathom deep he had followed us
From the land of mist and snow.
And every tongue, through utter drought,
Was withered at the root ;
We could not speak, no more than if
We had been choked with soot.

The shipmates, in their sore distress, would fain throw the whole guilt on the ancient Mariner : in sign whereof they hang the dead sea-bird round his neck.
Ah ! well a-day ! what evil looks
Had I from old and young !
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.

http://www.thetartan.org/2008/4/7/news/obama

While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama’s event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”

“I didn’t know they would say, ‘We need a white person here,’ ” said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. “I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn’t know it would be so outright.”

Obama’s Stalinist Tactics: Purge, Consolidate, Control. And if Hillary supporters want to come along, that’s fine. Just keep your mouths shut and do what you are told. He has literally taken over every aspect of Democratic Party operations and leaves no room for dissent. Doesn’t sound like America to me.

Obama didn’t want to be photographed with Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco when he was raising funds in the City.

Newsom subsequently supported Hillary. After the nomination was thrown to Obama, Newsom was quoted in the Obama-philic San Francisco Chronicle that he was willing to campaign for Obama wherever he wanted him to.

I thought, “Don’t wait by the phone for Obama to call.”

Hillary is still in and the Dems know it. by Nahanni

I have it from a reliable source (retired California Democratic party worker who still has great connections within the party) of what happened at that private meeting held at Diane Feinstein’s house.

Obama offered Hillary the VP slot.

Hillary told him very brusquely “Thanks, but no thanks”.

She also made it rather apparent that there was no way she was releasing her delegates and if Obama got the nomination he could expect no real help from either her or Bill.

The impression my contact got from her discussions with her friends within the party is that Hillary is not out of it and she expects Obama to be so damaged by the time the convention rolls around that he will either drop out of the race or not get the nomination. The Dems know how the Clinton’s roll and they must not be sleeping very well because they do not know when the 16 ton anvil is going to be dropped on Obama. They also know that some of Obama’s dirty laundry would be enough to kill his campaign if it came out.

Hillary Clinton asks top donors to meet with Obama

Fundraiser says Clinton donors asked to meet with Obama, former first lady to smooth tensions

JIM KUHNHENN and BETH FOUHY
AP News

Jun 17, 2008 20:34 EST

Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton plan to meet with some of her top contributors next week in an effort to calm donors who remain frustrated with Obama’s presidential campaign.

The meeting is set for June 26 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, several top Clinton fundraisers said Tuesday. The former first lady will introduce Obama to her financial backers. Obama clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination on June 3.

Jonathan Mantz, Clinton’s national finance director, notified donors about the meeting by e-mail Tuesday and urged them to attend and to contribute to Obama.

Two people closely involved with Clinton’s fundraising said the meeting had taken on added urgency after several of her money “bundlers” complained that Obama campaign manager David Plouffe and others had come across as arrogant in meetings with them last week in New York and Washington.

Both individuals spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the meeting.

Among other things, the donors want to make sure Obama knows that in order to get their help he needs to help Clinton pay down her campaign debt. As of the end of April, Clinton had more than $20 million in debt, a figure that likely increased by the time she suspended her campaign June 7.

Obama cannot use his campaign money to help Clinton with her debt, which includes at least $11 million of her own money. But he can encourage his donors to contribute to her campaign.

The two fundraisers who discussed the meeting said many donors also are furious that Obama’s campaign hired Patti Solis Doyle as chief of staff to Obama’s eventual running mate, calling it a slap in the face to Clinton and an implicit acknowledgment that she would not be on the ticket with him.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said no inference about the selection of a running mate should be made from Solis Doyle’s hiring.

“This was a long and hotly contested fight, so obviously there are some strong feelings about how it turned out and what needs to happen moving forward,” he said. “But we’re confident that the Democrats are united in their desire to defeat (Republican) John McCain.”

Clinton and Obama will meet with two different groups of donors at the Mayflower a week from Thursday. One larger group will include donors who raised $250,000 for Clinton’s campaign. A more intimate session will be reserved for about 30 fundraisers who collected $1 million or more.

“The challenge is reaching out to donors to ask them for money for a candidate that they’ve been on the opposite side of for a year and a half,” said Alexander Heckler, Clinton’s Florida finance chairman. “However, we have to take a deep breath and realize that we need to all work together and have a Democratic president elected.”

Another Clinton fundraiser suggested there was no rift, noting that a vigorous primary contest had just ended.

“The Obama campaign has reached out to the Clinton people,” said Hassan Nemazee, Clinton’s national finance co-chairman. “I think this is a process that is being undertaken and hopefully we will be in a position to assimilate the Clinton fundraising operation and the Obama fundraising operation together in the near future.”

“The reality is that we’re two weeks from the day that the last primary was held,” he added. “It takes a little while for staff to talk to each other, for lay organizations to talk to one another. It’s taken a while to get the candidates available.”

Heckler said he has been working with Obama’s camp and said he and Obama’s Florida finance chairman, Kirk Wagar, have been speaking daily to discuss fundraising strategies

Obama: To know him is to loathe him

I wonder if we shouldn’t start a lottery here at No Quarter to guess which ethnic/racial/religious/gender/sexual persuasion group Obama will throw under the bus next. We could give out a prize for the one who guesses correctly. Maybe rather than just guessing we could ask viewers to write their own essay on who they think it will be and why. It really could be very entertaining.

I’m guessing Donna Brazile will go under the bus.

I should get long odds for this, but I believe I’m correct.

This is very much like the event that Michelle Obama did in PA where they only wanted White People behind her and actually moved Asian and Blacks out of the background.

From the account in Carnegie Mellon’s paper, the Tartan, of a Michelle Obama event in Pittsburgh:

Give Obama a 10 cent PR system, and he thinks he’s king, it never occurring to him he is easily found out, and spotted, as obtuse as some middle eastern toad, hiding in an underground cave, thinking no one will ever discover him, his amatuer radio system of PR control.

He simply does not understand how intelligent people think.

Many of the males wear turbans.

And most Sikhs do not take kindly to attempts to throw them anywhere.

This is pathetic.

Would Obama be in the position he is now in if he had announced he was a Muslim or an Arabic American after the event of 9/11? I do not think so. Would all those colored folks have voted for him if they thought he was Arabic American instead of African American? I do not think so. What is on Obama’s birth certificate, Caucasion, Negroe, or Arabic? On my birth certificate under “color” is the notation “white”. On my military discharge under the word “race” is the notation “Caucasion”. I have an idea Obama may be Arabic on his birth certificate. Kenneth Lamb, the man who researched Obama’s genealogy thinks Obama is half white and almost half Arabic. Has Obama BAMBOOZLED ALL THOSE BLACK FOLKS WHO HAVE VOTED FOR HIM? Probabely

Comment by JR | 2008-06-18 18:20:06

He does look Arab. At this point him fooling even the African Americans would not be surprising.

All ‘57′ States

Interesting! What do you think !

RUSH LIMBAUGH:

Hey, folks, want to participate in tweaking the Drive-By Media? You are aware, probably, that Barack Obama lost his bearings recently and said that he was going to campaign in all 57 states. You heard this? And everybody chalked it up to, ‘Well, he’s tired.’

You know, this is a Dan Quayle moment. I mean, Dan Quayle goes out there and misspells ‘potato,’ and we still hear jokes about it. Barack Obama says he’s gonna go out and campaign in 57 states, he was just tired, you know, it’s been such a long campaign, he’s been so many
places, he probably thinks there are 57 states. Well, I have here a printout from a website called the International Humanist and Ethical Union. And here is how the second paragraph of an article on that website begins. ‘Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the
Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states presented a resolution to the United Nations commission on human rights called combating.’

We’re participating here in a tweak of the media. Obama said he’s going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states. There are 57 Islamic states. ‘Every year from 1999 to 2005, the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states,’ this is from the International Humanist and Ethical Union. And the title of the piece here is, ‘How the Islamic states dominate the UN human rights council,’ and there are 57 of them.

So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen.

Comment by John | 2008-06-18 19:21:08

To me the irony is that one of my best friends for the past 28 years is a Muslim woman and yes, she wears the head-scarf. I knew her about 2 years before she converted to Islam. She is a normal American, hell, she laughs at my jokes and stories and I am an atheist. She is probably one of the most tolerant women I know. She just happens to be a Muslim. She is not a friend because it is “politically-correct” to have a Muslim friend, she is a friend because she has always been a friend. And a loyal American I might add. From what I am reading now, she is just the sort of person an Obama volunteer would want to keep off-camera. What hypocrisy.

Comment by Juanitia Gonzales | 2008-06-18 20:47:23

Personally, I think he was correct in asking them to remove the scarves, but he should not have backed out of it.

The Newest Colosuss

With apologies to Emma Lazarus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

“Just take off your damn headscarf and try to look white, working class and Christian while you stand behind The One!”
