Obama and the DNC Don’t Take Lobbyists’ Money
By SusanUnPC on June 19, 2008 at 10:50 PM in Bamboozling, Barack Obama, Exelon, Lobbyists
That’s what Tweedledum Dick Durbin said on Fox News this morning. And that’s what Howard Dean says. Every day, I think. Obama says it too. Also every blessed day. Thing is:
Then there’s that coy workaround that Obama’s campaign has figured out. The RELATIVES of lobbyists donate the money.
Well, that makes it all alright. Never mind.

Oops.
Then there’s Exelon.
From the story I wrote about Exelon:
There’s the seminal 2006 Harper’s article on Exelon’s influence over Obama. Then Washington Post blog reported on January 18:
Clinton has also made the topic a key point of attack against rival Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, putting out a radio ad that refers to Obama as being “hip deep in financial ties” to Chicago-based energy giant Exelon Corp., a nuclear plant operator that supports the Yucca waste site.
While Obama called the ad misleading during a campaign stop Thursday, his financial ties to Exelon appear to be inescapable. A cursory search of his campaign finance report shows 158 contributions from people who identify themselves as Exelon employees, totaling more than $150,000 …
Exelon Corporation, “the nation’s leading nuclear-power-plant operator” is Barack Obama’s “fourth largest patron.” “Obama helped to vote down an amendment that would have killed vast loan guarantees for power-plant operators” — “called ‘one of the worst provisions in this massive piece of legislation’ by Taxpayers for Common Sense and Citizens Against Government Waste; the public will not only pay millions of dollars in loan costs but will risk losing billions of dollars if the companies default.” (Harper’s)

A stirring quote for pod people to rally behind :
“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.”
- Barack Obama
whahahahahah, that was soooooooo funny and some people call him brilliant. Someone help me out here, I just don’t get what they see in him.
I’m in Hudson.
It’s like trying to explain why 5 million bought the Pet Rock in a 6 month period back in 1975.
Yeah, go figure. Obama the new pet rock : )
Hey, everyone, check out this youtube video of an Obama supporter–via BytheFault–who’s beginning to the light.
http://www.bythefault.com/2008/06/20/an-obama-supporter-now-has-doubts/
One can only hope that others in this young man’s generation will put down the Kool-Aid as well!
You ROCKIST!!!!!
That’s funny Fred.
LOL!!!
The pet rock was at least a harmless gag gift Obama is a dangerous demagogue.
It’s sooo great that Barack feels it need to be changed! What a stupid “f”ing way to put it.
Sometimes I wonder if Barack Obama is George Bush in blackface.
I was just thinking, read it in the Bush voice and it’s hillarious.
What a collasally stupid thing to say.
Anyone think Harvard will receive fewer applicants the more Obama speaks?
WOW! I can’t spell fer SHIT and even I’M IMPRESSED!!!!
Barack is the new Bush, a gift to comedians everywhere.
OMG - that just made my day. thank you, HARP!
Change it to what? Fro greatest to the most corrupt?
“Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practise to deceive!”
Says it all I think.
Great video, to the point. It should be seen nationwide.
In addition to the closet door bursting open from Obamislamist’s skeleton’s, his campaign lies are piling up.
Overnight, O’boy has lost 12 points in FL, and 7 points in Ohio. McCain leads in both states.
Do you think the O’boy backflips are hurting him?
It’s the start of the avalanche.
Hey Johnny, where did you get the poll numbers?
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html
Oh boy…I’m loving it. I knew he couldn’t take Florida.
Praise Jesus!
But not the plastic one.
Plastic Jesus protects me,
for his head scews off, you see.
He’s hollow, and I use him for a flask.
Bought - that’s all there is to it- he is bought and paid for.
It was gratifying to see the local newspapers and TV debunk this crap when he ran those ads in PA.
Sadly, we will probably have to remind everybody about how bundled money IS special interest money.
I wrote about this at my blog in the weeks leading up to the PA primary. Having been on the receiving end of a ‘request’ from a company I used to work for, I can safely say that when your company asks you to doante to their favorite PAC, saying no is a career ending move. Extortion on a grand scale!

Enjoy, Military Mom……
It’s chock-full of the real deal.
Could it be any more obvious that he’s reading from a teleprompter on this too?
Is it true that his online contribution site does not prohibit international donating?
I’m confused - first he had all of this money then he was short and now he’s confident with his $5 here and there contributors that he will have more than McCain b/c he has to out spend McCain due to his fear of the swiftboaters coming after him.
I live in PA and just can not see how he will win this state. During our last Governor election, we had a Democrat Ed Rendell vs. a Republican Lynn Swann (yes, the guy from the Steelers).
Speculations and polls were running wild and they tought Swann (with little to no experience) would win because everyone was in love with the idea of a minority.
Guess what - the polls and speculators were wrong! Rendell won by a landslide.
McCain will win PA
david brooks offers a great perspective on what the gop machine is up against:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/20/opinion/20brooks.html?ex=1214625600&en=6fccf70f0ae0fbcb&ei=5070
And the turd in that trufflebox from David Brooks who can be trusted to get it wrong every goddamn time - I mean he NEVER FAILS:
CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN ALERT
ick up your phone and call your Representative right now to demand a NO vote on warrantless wiretapping. The vote will be Friday around noon, but please call no matter what time you get this. (The Congressional switchboard is open 24×7x365 and each office has voicemail.)
Steny Hoyer’s warrantless wiretapping bill is obscene because it gives complete immunity to the telcos that have spied on us illegally since 2001, as well as the Bush Administration officials who illegally asked them to break the law. And it lets them continue spying on us by creating Big Brother with a figleaf of meaningless “protections.”
And I’d like to know why Barak Obama, as the “new leader of the Democratic Party,” didn’t take a stronger stand against the Stoyer/Pelosi cave in to President Bush.
Why can’t this man LEAD?
What is Obama saying? If we are the greatest country in the world, why do we need to change? Also, I hear a lot about change, and the only one I see changing is Obama. Every day it’s something else.
One day he says we’ll withdraw the troops right away, and when someone injects him with some knowledge that the peace process is going well and the economy there is growing at 7-8% a year, he says that now we’ll withdraw troops responsibly.
Same with the private money, lobbyists. By the way, did you know that Alsammarae, Iraq’s former Minster of Electricity, who escaped prison and encourages insurgents to continue the fight against our soldiers donated $2,300 to the Obama campaign. And we want this guy for president? Phew. Lord have mercy.
Can foreigners give donations? How did BO get a pass on this? Why are people who are supposed to be “highly educated”, the party elders, the superdelegates still sticking with this man? He seems to be mentally deranged. He has not gotten the nomination yet but he seems to be on the loose. That’s true! he brings change to what he says and thinks every single day. Where is America heading to with his instability if he is the one elected? Something should be done now. It’s too costly to take a risk with him. We have a much better alternative.
I pointed this out on Dailykooks the other day and got blasted as a troll. I speak Kook-esse, I’ll spare you the click and translate this…
…you see, when individuals who work in major corporations to Democrats and Hussein Obama, why they’re just individuals who just want to have their voice heard, that they work for a corporation is irrelevent.
When individuals who work for major corporations give to McCain and the GOP, why they are nothing but evil special interest PACs and lobbyists who are part of a vast right wing conspiracy to take over the world. That they’re just “individuals” within a corporation expressing their interest in a candidate is irrelevent and just a front story for these evil doers.
Got it?
That is how O’boy and his handlers are trying to sell it.
Fact is, O’boys money comes from the “Special Interest” bogey man he wants us all to be afraid of.
I got new for ya O’boy. Do’t look now but there is a Bogeyman under your bed. It’s called the informed American Voter.
Detroit Paper: Obama needs to “stop treating Americans like pathetic victims” in the world economy
“If Barack Obama really wants to sell his message of hope to American voters this November, he needs to stop treating us like pathetic victims unable to compete economically with people in Mexico or China.
Rather, he needs to discuss people like Kyle Schwulst, 28, founder of ElectroJet Inc., a Whitmore Lake outfit of seven employees. Schwulst shopped his electronic fuel-injection device to China’s huge market for scooters and now expects to employ 20 people by year end and foresees $500 million in sales in two years.

McCain: “I Didn’t Love America Until”……
by EmperorHadrian
Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 08:38:54 PM PDT
Huffingtonpost.com now has a video from Verdict with Dan Abrams, from an interview John McCain gave with Fox “News” earlier this year. In it, he says,
I really didn’t love America until I was deprived of her company
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/6/19/23295/5577/193/538811
dailykos should change thier name to DAILYHATE –we hate america group =WHAG
THEY R SO STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
A very simple retort; John McCain was how old when he enlisted? By the time he was 46 what were his views?
Michelle Obama was already married to a US Senator when she said she was proud of America for the very first time in her adult life.

about change, the only one I see changing is Obama. LOL
The same call for “Change!” was made by the ODM campaign of Odinga in Kenya. And Obama misused his official Senate visa to go there and give speeches for Odinga, telling the crowds that their government was corrupt and it was time for “Change”.
Kenya was a peaceful, prosperous democracy - something of a rarity in Africa. By the time genocidal Odinga rampaged his way into office, the economy was ruined, thousands were raped and murdered, the country was decimated.
Their campaign slogans, tactics and strategies are parallel So, sadly, if we don’t get rid of this bozo that is the kind of change we can count on.
He should be investigated for that trip.

“Al Sharpton told Foxnews, if Obama goes into Convention with more popular votes but is not elected as the nominee,
he and his black brothers will go to demonstrate on the street.”
Maybe we’ll have to call out the militia. I’m thinking if our government gets anymore corrupt we might need to have a tea party on their asses too.:)
Time for the crapper cannon !!
Particularly the Ohio National Guard.
I’d buy ‘em a couple of bus tickets.
Al-Qadhafi : Obama Suffers Inferiority Complex That Might Make Him Behave “Whiter Than the White.”
Al-Jazeera TV (Qatar) - June 11, 2008 - 00:07:43 :
There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan African origins, a Muslim, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama. All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man. They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency. But we were taken by surprise when our African Kenyan brother, who is an American national, made statements that shocked all his supporters in the Arab world, in Africa, and in the Islamic world. We hope that this is merely an elections “clearance sale,” as they say in Egypt – in other words, merely an elections lie. As you know, this is the farce of elections – a person lies and lies to people, just so that they will vote for him, and afterwards, when they say to him: :”You promised this and that,” he says: “No, this was just elections propaganda.” This is the farce of democracy for you. He says: “This was propaganda, and you thought I was being serious. I was fooling you to get your votes.”
Check the video out interesting!!!
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ee7_1213614963&p=1
It’s not a Complex.
He’s just Inferior.
When you say Obama are you speaking of Barry Soetoro aka Barry Obama aka Barack Hussein Muhammad Obama jr aka Barack Hussein Obama or Barack Obama. I would like to keep up with the conversation if I only knew who we are talking about.
I think they’re talking about Buy Crack Obama. Or is that “bi?”
Qadhafi says Obama takes pride in his African and Islamic identity.
Islamic identity? Hmmm I wonder what Obama is going to say to this now
Recently the news reported an Islamic school here in the U.S. supported by the Saudis had school books that said it was OK to kill Muslims that converted to another religion. Obama needs to be careful for sure not to let them think he was ever Muslim.
That should read that Obadhafi hopes Obama takes pride in his Islamic identity, guess Obama is going to have to update his stop the smear site once again lol
Even Huffington post is forced to carry negative articles now about Obama because so many of them are flooding the news. It is safe to get back to Huffington post again now that she can’t kick Hillary and is forced to be accountable about her addled support of Obama. Looks like she is having misgivings about her Goldenboy.
Obama has to explain being hip deep in union money is not taking “special interest” money.
His first official act was to go hat in hand to the public employees union SEIU who left smiling knowing all the government employees will continue to bankrupt the federal budget with their gold-plated salaries, benefits, health care and pensions thanks to Obama.
No way. That site is a cesspool. It burnede its bridges with me.
I like your monikker, Obama’s gums look sick. Seriously, the guy doesn’t look too good, does he?
I wouldn’t go there if it was the last blog on earth.
If Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi knows Obama has a Islamic identity why is it that so many people in America don’t know this or pretend it is not so?
The Arab world must really be waiting and looking on at events in this country, and some of us here have out heads so far up where the sun don’t shine, that we are playing the fool with this election.
I can see a lot of dark days and trouble ahead with Obama and the Arab world if he happens to win the GE, I only hope all who ignored this fact, pretending its not so if trouble happens once again all these persons, who kept telling some of us we are wrong will be willing to take the responsibility for what ever happens in the future and not make silly excuses to cover up their ignorance.
I just hope there are more of us than the hopey changey dopes.
Are you kidding? This guy is an idiot on foreign policy. He’s not smart enough to have nefarious connections.
I agree with this author on that issue:
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/06/020784.php
The Bush administration completely mishandled this. They should have never let military officers abuse the prisoners and should have rotated them out of there on a regular bases. If they were going to put anyone on trial they should have done it a long time ago. Many of these people been there since 2002.

Dave…….what is your deal?
I’ve seen plugging a site, but you guys are relentless.
I have you bookmarked, btw.
But this constant troll stuff?
What’s wrong with your site strategy that you think this is a workable idea?
It’s been pointed out frequently that you’re just annoying a lot of people. It’s like Obama ads.
Too many.
Anyway……just some real feedback.
I’m obviously on here a lot, and I’m about to delete you due to the nuisance.
I don’t support that.
If your site is legitimate and really digs out news, it will attract.
If not, it won’t.
Yea–lighten up, Dave.
This may be a dumb question but here goes; How does anyone really know that Obama has raised 100s of millions from small, $5-$25, donors? As I understand it total contributions less than a certain amount from an individual do not have to be reported. So is it possible that these millions of small donations are really larger shills that they have managed to ‘hide’ by skirting around the loophole? Just wondering.
Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Tribune reported that Obama regularly holds fundraisers for the big boys, like the one at Ethel Kennedy’s house for $23,000 a pop just to attend.
The $5 and $10 “little people” are just the public relations image Axelrod feeds to the press.
His biggest donations came from financials like Goldman Sachs and UBS, the very companies involved in the subprime mortgage fiasco.
Don’t believe the hype. Obama’s no different and nothing new.
I don’t think it’s a dumb question at all. A couple people here keep raising the question. Obama won the money race, and we’re supposed to believe it was a grassroots uprising, but the rules make the money’s source opaque. So, it is also possible that it’s a ruse hiding more sinister funding. We don’t know. We’re supposed to take Axelrod and Obama’s word for it.
Yeah, go have biblical knowledge with yerself Dave
The comment upthread about Dubya’s voice reminded me –
Can anybody take an Obama speech and modify the audio so that his voice is an octave higher? It is the register of his voice that gets people, I’m sure.
Dick Cheney is another one. I have long manitained he would not be where he is, had he been a tenor.
James Carville repeated the doesn’t-take-money-from-lobbyists-it’s-all-from-small-donors theme last night on CNN (Blitzer’s show) in a discussion with Bill Bennett. Obama opting out of federal campaign financing was the issue (Carville said he was smart to do that. Bennett agreed “smart, but not principled.”)
Shouldn’t we give Russ Feingold some credit for his mild rebuke of The Anointed One on this?
Carville looked to me like he was not enjoying himself.
That is complete b.s. and Carville should know better. This sham about Obama’s lack of lobbyist activity and “money coming from small donors” has to be exposed. Isn’t it over 60% of his funds come from Wall St. (sub-prime mortgage industry), lobbyist related sources and nuclear energy. Why don’t the Republicans blast back with the ACTUAL FACTS?!
On another related topic:
I have a friend who is connected to Hillary’s “big donors.” I was bothered by the recent reports that Hillary and BO are meeting together with them next week, thinking that they were weakening. I received this response from her this morning:
There is a big joint fundraiser in DC on Thurs. where they have asked donors to give to Obama. Many of my friends who are on the finance committee are not going—they are giving only the minimum—the $2300 b/c she has asked—they refuse to raise any money for him—everyone is holding strong together and every day that goes by it gets stronger. I am very proud of our top fundraisers. They are not caving at all.
PUMA!!!!!
Thanks for the inside info.
The GOP should invoke the name Richard Nixon, as in Obama is the first presidential candidate since Richard Nixon, that has foregone public financing.
Since Watergate gave rise to the reforms, I think even Nixon would have been smart enough to see the political insanity of spurning a policy that you said you supported and that your entire party has stood firmly on for all of the years that REFORM has been in discussion, but hey, that’s just an observation from someone who WATCHED the Watergate hearings ….
I always wonders about Obama’s donations to his campaign if you go on his web site and click on countries that can donate, there is a list with about every dam country in this world.
No other candidate had a country list on their web site, and there were strict guideline to anyone outside of the USA that wanted to donate to them where they had to submit some form of documentation to prove that you were a US citizen.
On Obama site you just tick a box saying that you are a US citizen and you can donate. I don’t know how they allowed him to get away with that one, no one ever brought it up or even questioned how they would know who this money was coming from, yet there was a big noise when Elton John was coming to have a concert for Hillary, saying he is not a US citizen and so on.
To me the Republican seems to be sleeping or maybe they don’t care to win this election there are so many gaping holes in Obama’s rhetoric and election strategy but the republican are not homing in on it and making it a issue, maybe its McCain’s idea of how he wants to run his campaign with a soft touch but if they don’t get on the ball with all these little thing they will be making a big mistake in the end, its time for the republicans to get their election machinery in place and stop pussy footing with this guy.
Did you see the blurb about the woman in England that had her bank cleaned out. She researched where the money went. Someone donated to Obamanations campaign fraudulently using her card!
BO’s lobbyist hypocrisy has been one of my biggest arguments against him. It is a blatant lie, and it has not been adequately exposed. I hope the McCain team is ready with a full assault on this.
Yeah, it is, fran.
It’s bamboozlin of the worst kind.
This man is a hustler, just like he was in the Chicago machine.
http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/3536
Judy,
This is a conservative columnist. Have you read all of the articles he has written ripping Hallary and the Dems to shreds over the years calling them Socialists, etc.?
And yet, he makes some very good points.
Democrats think Obama can lower gas prices, he says, mockingly.
He’s right. Obama voted FOR Dick Cheney’s bloated Energy Bill giving huge subsidies and tax breaks to the big oil companies, pandering to “special interests.”
John McCain, on the other hand, voted AGAINST that bill, because he is against pandering to “special interests.” There are no earmarks that show McCain got $$$ for family members like Obama or James Clyburn did.
Don’t you think it’s a little hypocritical of Obama NOW to want a windfall profits tax, when his own vote gave those same oil companies a pot load of our tax dollars in subsidies and tax breaks?
I DO.
Does anyone know if we can get a list of Obama’s small donor list under the Freedom of Information Act? I would like to go through it to see just how much these small donors give. It could be possible that people are giving more than the maximum because it seems they give over and over. I don’t see how tracking over the internet could be very effective.
Nuclear energy is one of the most important issues of this campaign. McCain openly supports building nuclear power to meet the energy crisis and address global warming. Obama hems and haws keeping the Left believing he doesn’t back nuclear power. If this is the direction the country goes, I’d at least like the candidate to tell us the truth.
We are at a fork in the road. Our taxes and loan guarantees could be used for big corporations to maintain their power over us, both by running nuclear plants and maintaining our dependency on oil. Or, our wealth could be used to subsidize the building of wind and solar, which could also be used to power our cars.
One model leaves us dependent on monopolies, the other empowers us all to be part of the solution. One leaves us with a nuclear waste legacy that will also require taxes to bail out, the other leaves us all with a part of the dividend. One is decidedly liberal, the other is corporate business as usual.
