Progressive Bloggers Get a Depressingly Heavy Dose of Reality

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Obama to us:

“Nice little bloggers! Aren’t you cute! After you demanded accountability we gave you piggy lipstick and fig leaves and told you it was time to move on while we important Senators told you–in polite terms–to fuck off.”

FireDogLake’s Emptywheel aka Marcy Wheeler, who covered the Valerie Plame Wilson story and Scooter Libby trial. (Image: The ad that liberals plan to run in the WaPo.)

******************

The progressive bloggers have a bad, bad case of the blue blues today over Obama’s cave-in on the FISA vote.

You can’t say we didn’t warn them that he always does what is politically expedient and really doesn’t give a rat’s ass about “policy” stuff. You can’t say we didn’t tell them, over and over, that when true grit is required — when mettle and moxie are essential — that Hillary Clinton has, well … Larry Johnson once wrote that “Hillary has Balls.”

Remember when wonky Sen. Hillary Clinton showed up on the Senate floor and voted against Sen. Kyl’s resolution to condemn MoveOn — even though MoveOn worked hard against her nomination — but their new “pet rock” Barack ducked the hot-button issue by not voting?

Remember when wonky Hillary grilled General George Casey on his failure to know about critical troop equipment shortages and then voted against his appointment to be Chief of Staff for the Army, but that Barack voted for Casey?

Remember when wonky Hillary stood up and was counted on another hot-button vote on declaring Iraq’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization — but Barack, who was IN the Senate building (you guessed it) ducked the vote?

You may not always agree with her, but at least Hillary Clinton sticks her neck out on key issues, and has the in-depth policy knowledge to back up her votes.

And who else, among the politicians you know, would vote to stand up for an organization like MoveOn at the same time it was rooting for her to lose? She voted against the condemnation of MoveOn because it was the right thing to do to protect free speech. Obama hid away rather than stand up and be counted.

Barack does not care about the policy issues. Does. Not. Care. He solely cares about winning.

Back in the blue blogosphere right about now, they’re all very low. Josh Marshall couldn’t even bring himself to write one sentence about Obama’s announcement that he was voting for FISA.

Grab your hankies.

Greg Sargent / TPM Election Central:

Why Obama’s Support For FISA Cave-In Is Such A Downer — Here’s what’s so dispiriting about it. One of the riveting things about Barack Obama’s candidacy is that since the outset of the campaign he’s seemed absolutely dead serious about changing the way foreign policy is discussed and argued about in this country.

(He has?)

Glenn Greenwald at Salon magazine:

Telling Americans that we have to give up basic constitutional rights — and allow rampant lawbreaking — if we want to save ourselves from “the grave threats we face” sounds awfully familiar. He says he will work to remove amnesty from the bill, but once that fails, will vote for the “compromise.” Obama has obviously calculated that sacrificing the rule of law and the Fourth Amendment is a worthwhile price to pay to bolster his standing a tiny bit in a couple of swing states. The full Obama statement is here …

“Calculated …”

Now there’s a verb applied to Obama with which I can agree.

Hey, folks.

It’s not too late to nominate wonky Hillary.

You may not love all of her votes, but at least she is deeply knowledgeable about the issues and cares about policy at a profound level.

Mr. Unity Pony is all about getting the title.

That’s why he’s now adorned his podium with this embarrassingly presumptuous faux presidential seal:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The NYT blog observed:

“Just above the eagle’s head are the words “Vero Possumus,” roughly translated “Yes we can.” Not exactly E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One), the motto on the presidential seal and the dollar bill. Then again, Mr. Obama is not the president. “

Sen. Clinton has stuck her neck out — by voting against Gen. Casey’s confirmation, by voting against the attack-dog resolution against MoveOn.org, and by voting on the Iran resolution.

Sen. Obama tucked his head in — by voting for an unqualified general, and by failing to show up to vote to protect MoveOn.org or to take a stand on Iran.

Therefore, we award Sen. Obama the “Cowardly Lion” badge, and demand he wear it next to his on-again, off-again flag pin:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well, okay. We’ll let him add “Vero Possumus” to the badge.

Listen: You’ll NEVER find the perfect “unity pony.” They only exist in fairy tales. Only in the Land of Oz are the characters either all good or all bad.

What you want to try to find is the candidate who truly cares about policy and who makes it a regular habit to intensely study each issue, so much so that she has become an expert on major issues from universal health care to the highly complex military structure. Okay, so her speeches don’t send a chill up your spine. But she does know what she’s doing. And that is really what you need.

Remember when Hillary Clinton voted for the Iraq war – the worst foreign policy debacle in generations.

Comment by catherine | 2008-06-20 20:33:19

I remember she had been the junior senator of a state had suffered the worst terrorist attack in US history only a year before when she voted.
And I remember the speech she gave regarding her vote.

Today we are asked whether to give the President of the United States authority to use force in Iraq should diplomatic efforts fail to dismantle Saddam Hussein’s chemical and biological weapons and his nuclear program.

I am honored to represent nearly 19 million New Yorkers, a thoughtful democracy of voices and opinions who make themselves heard on the great issues of our day especially this one. Many have contacted my office about this resolution, both in support of and in opposition to it, and I am grateful to all who have expressed an opinion.

I also greatly respect the differing opinions within this body. The debate they engender will aid our search for a wise, effective policy. Therefore, on no account should dissent be discouraged or disparaged. It is central to our freedom and to our progress, for on more than one occasion, history has proven our great dissenters to be right.

Now, I believe the facts that have brought us to this fateful vote are not in doubt. Saddam Hussein is a tyrant who has tortured and killed his own people, even his own family members, to maintain his iron grip on power. He used chemical weapons on Iraqi Kurds and on Iranians, killing over 20 thousand people. Unfortunately, during the 1980’s, while he engaged in such horrific activity, he enjoyed the support of the American government, because he had oil and was seen as a counterweight to the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran.

In 1991, Saddam Hussein invaded and occupied Kuwait, losing the support of the United States. The first President Bush assembled a global coalition, … Read all.

That is rather open and shut.

I am irrated that BO thinks he is doing this country a service by denigrating the religions of the world because he is not at ease with who he is. And that is a VERY dangerous thing.

Sorta OT….

I remember the coverage Hillaty got when she first became a Senator. The media followed her everywhere, making sure she really took this seriously.

They had so many attempts at unflattering angles and lighting, it seemed like a daily event. They commented on the flat hair, less make-up, bags under her eyes, if she knew her stuff.

She was there with eyes fixed and taking it all in. Not some glassy-eyed idiot who didn’t care what was going on, and there for show.

But she really put in the hard work. They press finally laid off, but it seemed like months before they realized she took her job very seriously.

Compare that with the fluff interviews that barely pressed Obama on his votes and support of the war. They didn’t follow him everywhere. No up the nostrils, bad lighting, caught tired photos in committees.

I guess it was to be expected what they did to Hillary during the primary season, since they showed us the difference in treatment when they were the star Jr Senator from their states.

Remember when Barack Obama said THESE things in 2004?

In July of `04, Barack Obama, “I’m not privy to Senate intelligence reports. What would I have done? I don’t know,” in terms of how you would have voted on the war. And then this: “There’s not much of a difference between my position on Iraq and George Bush’s position at this stage.” That was July of `04. And this: “I think” there’s “some room for disagreement in that initial decision to vote for authorization of the war.” It doesn’t seem that you are firmly wedded against the war, and that you left some wiggle room that, if you had been in the Senate, you may have voted for it. (”Meet the Press,” 2004, via MyDD, Nov. 11, 2007)

(from my story, “Obama Talks the Talk, But Where’s the Walk?.”

Comment by Teakwood | 2008-06-20 22:15:06

SusanUnPC…LOL even to the untrained eye, I think that was a “clue”!

Comment by Inhumancannonball | 2008-06-22 08:33:32

Well, back then Obama’s views on the war were tied to whether his friends Rezko and Alsamarrae could get all their contracting deals in Iraq. Once Alsamarrae fled Iraq with a couple of billion dollars in early 2006, Obama changed his tune.

Comment by alibe4Hillary | 2008-06-20 21:10:36

Are we really sure that Obama even gave that mythical speech opposing the war? I seriously doubt that he actually did. It is not mentioned in any newspaper. It is just an urban myth like his qualifications for President. No way, Nobama!

Comment by Perry Logan | 2008-06-20 21:51:33

Obama’s 2002 anti-war speech is just lore. The only evidence he ever delivered the words he claims is from a staged production edited in David Axlerod’s studio. Remember this from Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times in 2007?

his October, 2002 anti-war speech made at an outdoor rally for a new ad that went on-line Thursday. There is no good audio tape of the Chicago rally that is playng a pivotal role in the Obama campaign.

“It was Barack re-reading a portion of the speech. As I told you, there is no original tape,” Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod told me in an e-mail exchange.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-21 01:35:21

Right. And the text of his speech was not distributed to the media and quoted in the next day’s papers and on radio shows. Right.

And the whole holocaust thing is pretty sketchy. Could well be made up.

Comment by Inhumancannonball | 2008-06-22 08:40:01

Give me a break! NPR (on Morning Edition) ran a story on this earlier in the Spring. They did extensive investigation of all the people present at the rally that they could find and interviewed them. They culled through old radio and tv broadcasts and local and national newspapers.
What they found? Nobody present remembered him saying anything more than a sentence or two, and most people did not remember him at all. He was not on the roster of official or invited speakers (the rally organizers had invited specific speakers). Only one source documented that he had said “I am not a pacifist but I am opposed to stupid wars.”
NPR also reported–based on authoritative sources–that the audio tape of his “2002 speech” is in fact something produced in a studio with the use of sound effects. Go to NPR and listen to the story.

And by the way– your sense of moral equivalency is about as f-ed up as your savior’s. What they hell is wrong with you? Comparing the holocaust to someone criticizing Obama?!?!

Comment by Karen | 2008-06-20 21:59:44

Actually a reporter from the Chicago Tribune
was there and said that since Obama was barely known by anyone in Illinois at the time, he didn’t think it was worth mentioning and most of the very small crowd that was present were
talking and not paying any attention. After Jesse Jackson spoke most people left. The Obama camp later recreated the speech in a studio so he could use it in his campaign.

Comment by Inhumancannonball | 2008-06-22 08:47:38

From NPR’s story on March 25, 2008:

Even in this era of YouTube and camera phones, a recording of Obama’s speech is all but impossible to find. The Obama campaign has gone so far as to re-create portions of the speech for a television ad, with the candidate re-reading the text, with audience sound effects…..Juan Andrade Jr., president of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, was less impressed. Andrade says he has seen Obama give great speeches, most notably at the 2004 Democratic Convention, but the 2002 anti-war speech was not one of them….So, just how much attention did the speech attract?

Bill Glauber, who covered the rally for the Chicago Tribune, says he didn’t even quote Obama.

“I guess other media was there,” Glauber says, “but we didn’t quote Barack Obama at his famous anti-war speech. He was not the main guy.”

Glauber says that he did not even mention Obama in his newspaper article on the rally and instead focused on the rally’s other speaker, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The resolution “supported” and “encouraged” diplomatic efforts by President Bush to “strictly enforce through the U.N. Security Council all relevant Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq” and “obtain prompt and decisive action by the Security Council to ensure that Iraq abandons its strategy of delay, evasion, and noncompliance and promptly and strictly complies with all relevant Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq.”

The resolution authorized President Bush to use the Armed Forces of the United States “as he determines to be necessary and appropriate” in order to “defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions regarding Iraq.”

Comment by blueasthesky | 2008-06-20 22:56:23

Barack Obama, by peddling the lie that the vote for the Iraq War Resolution was a vote to go to war, has shown himself untrustworthy on national security matters. Anybody who has taken the time to read the text of the resolution, as well as the speeches made by various parties, will know that this is untrue.

It’s clear the Pelosi Cabal waited until it had Sen. Clinton muzzled and declawed before ramming through the FISA/War funding bills. Is there any doubt our candidate would have been screaming about this into the television cameras, just like she did when Wall Street speculators started driving up the price of oil?

As for the ACLU and its indignant representative on the Hill, Carolyn Frederickson, where the hell were they a couple weeks ago when the DNC was stealing a presidential election? God forbid anyone should bother about fair and free elections when Barack Obama needs another pillow.

It’s no wonder Pelosi feels free now to shed any pretense about where she gets her marching orders from. In this version of the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy gives up the shoes and the hourglass runs out without Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion and Toto storming the castle to save her. (That would be us cowards specifically.)

I close my eyes and imagine the old, pre-Stepford Wife Sen. Clinton at the microphone quoting from the Paul Simon classic: “Fools, said I, you do not know, but silence like a cancer grows.”

And today on PBS Newshour: After hearing Texas Rep. Sheila Lee deriding the two House bills as tantamount to putting ”lipstick on a pig”, viewers were shown disturbing video in the next segment about the flood in Iowa. And as if on cue, there they were – rows and rows of pigs on a farm lying belly-up dead after drowning. Literally hundreds of them.

That would be us, too, I think, if Clinton’s name stays off the November ballot.

That’s the deal they made.

Obama paid his debt today.

I just don’t get it. What is Obama all about? Why is he so wildly popular among the so called “progressive blog?” I mean what has he done? Really, what has he done? For the maximum information voter (i.e., those who refuse to vote for Obama) we are beside ourselves with puzzlement and wonder. It defies logic and understanding that Obama is seen as such a great leader. What has he lead? He could have ostensively claimed public financing reform but well you are maximum informtion voters so I do not need to continue. What has he lead? A speech on Iraq, doing an anti war rally in a safe district that was not recorded just in case he might need to distance himself. Who by the way voted to fund that hideous war at least twice.

I just don’t get it. I guess too much information can be bewildering as well as a good thing.

Comment by Zee | 2008-06-20 21:08:22

It’s branding.

They are antiwar. He was branded as antiwar. He’s black, so voting for him is such a feel-good progressive act….if you don’t know the details.

They don’t have time to look into the details, and once the fauxgressive sites give them a talking point they just spew it back out without even thinking. Any talking point, no matter how clueless, is swallowed without question….and then regurgitated.

Take the MI and Fl issue. A friend of mine who is scary smart in his field spat out this utter nonsense: “all those votes were illegal, anyway.” How STUPID can you get? I tried to use logic and told him, if none of those votes were going to count, then why did the candidates all agree not to campaign there? What was to stop them from campaigning if for no other reason than the voters would remember them in the general election. They were told not to campaign there…or they would lose those delegates! So they were always going to seat those delegates eventually. And since Obama alone campaigned in both states (and took his name off the ballot in MI) he should’ve gotten NO delegates, let along Hillary’s delegates!

But my friend couldn’t let go of the BRANDING. He said “if that’s what you want to believe…” I told him it had nothing to do with “believing” it was the facts!

He’s a young brat, tho, so I got him in the end and asked, “Do you even vote?” lolol He moves around too much to register!

What accounts for the Obama Nation mass delusion? Not an idle question. If we could comprehend it, we more likely could stop the train from reaching its scheduled destination.

What motivates the handlers is easier for me to comprehend. Massive warchests (Soros, Chicago, Ansammerae, etc?) and greed, desire for more money, more power?

But what about the followers (that is, those still inside the bus)? What accounted for Jim Jones? Subliminals? Hypnotic (Michelle’s finger, BHO’s head)? 5-second “avg American” tv-watcher attention spans? Abandonment issues? Herd behavior? Powerlessness? Belief in magical solutions?

A trained and published mediation trainer, I’ve been trying to figure out why so many of my otherwise bright and insightful friends are on the Obama Nation train. One of them ~ who is NOT motivated by power or greed, but by the conviction that BHO represents ‘change’ ~ has agreed to sit down with me over a quiet cup of iced coffee and SPLAIN it to me.

If I get any new insights, I’ll be back.

Comment by annagain | 2008-06-20 20:42:15

Forgive me, not to say I told you so to the Obama supporters — but I saw through this guy back in January — when I saw him standing there at a debate –

these were my initial observations…

1. hates to be criticized — it is his achilles’ heel.
2. aloof and distant.
3. you come to me, I never go to you.
4. lies whenever convenient, no problem doing so.
5. tilts his head to the side — examining you like you are a bug under a glass, i.e., judgmental.

and, last, best and most of all

6. his gross arrogance will be his undoing.

This was pretty much before he said anything.

Please explain to me why it takes so long to see the obvious. You just have to look at his actions in the State Senate amd then his Senate votes, or the lack thereof — he does everything for political expedience.

He would throw his mother under the bus. Oh, that’s right. He already has.

How could anyone be fooled by this man — the speeches may be pretty but there is no heart there.

I will take substance over style every time.

Hillary has plenty of substance and these last few months of campaigning, she developed a great style of her own as well.

Who did these boobs nominate again?

Remember that great sketch on SNL months ago with Amy Poehler as Hillary — just call the DNC and tell them “we’ve changed our minds”.

It’s only June, people, not too late to call your representatives and say, please nominate the lady who really knows how to govern and, whether you agree with her on everything or not, she never throws people under the bus, you know where she stands– she’ll be tough, smart and on the ball.

She actually wants to roll up her sleeves and get the job done — and she don’t give a sh*t about logos that look like the glorification of the new messiah.

Comment by Inhumancannonball | 2008-06-22 08:50:56

Problem is that now that Obama has taken over the Democratic Party and moved its headquarters to Chicago, he is stripping any delegate who does not support him of his or her right to vote.
Look for voter fraud on election day too. Obama hired as his political adviser a guy who was fined $750,000 by the federal government for resurrecting dead people in 2004 and getting them to vote if you know what I mean.

When I heard about Obama’s FISA vote I started to laugh.

I laughed even louder than I did when flipped on his campaign finance promise.

But I really laughed when Rachel Maddow had to report this toight and looked like she just sucked a lemon.

We KNEW Obama’s inevitable flip-flopping would go down. We NQ Hillary supporters that is — this isn’t our first rodeo.

I warned those HuffPo kids and extreme lefties that Obama would move toward the center if he won the primary.

Oh no. They refused to consider it. He was their progressive, liberal God.

And now they see his clay feet.

Muahahahahaha.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-06-20 21:16:12

Yon mean the same obama trolls who fail to recall that obama wants to keep mercenaries like blackwater on the ground? Hilary on the other hand has said that she would immediately remove them. It seems to me that most of these obama cult members do not understand what the real meaning of progressive is. And Barak Obama continues to circle the drain… and the general election has even officially started yet. Wow!

Comment by missE | 2008-06-20 20:54:26

Love this part:

According to Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., Obama then said, “However, I need to make a decision in the next few months as to how I manage that since I’m running against John McCain, which takes a lot of time. If women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it.”

Rep. Diane Watson, D-Calif., a longtime Clinton supporter, did not like those last three words — “Get over it.” She found them dismissive, off-putting.

“Don’t use that terminology,” Watson told Obama.

Hillary Clinton deserves an apology for all the hateful, vile things his supporters and Obama have used against her. She deserves an apology for the race-baiting. Wow. As someone said just above, his arrogance was off-putting from the start. This article about the meeting for “unity” exposes it yet again. We’ve seen it continuously through the primary and it is why he has alienated half the party. Even now, he doesn’t get it. “Get over it,” is his real attitude. How did this guy get a reputation for being such a great “uniter and healer?” Oh yea, because he said so.

He’s really bad at it.

omg. You need to go to the original source and read the entire thing!!

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/Story?id=5215668&page=1

After saying he doesn’t have time to heal the wounds and the little ladies should just “get over it” he got really mad when told to watch his sexist language and WHINED that it’s really the CLINTONS and their followers who should be apologizing and making up to him!

He actually blames them for the “rumor” that he’s a “Muslim.” You know, it was probably his camp that started that rumor in order to have something simple to deny and to distract from OTHER facts such as his campaigning for his “cousin” Odinga, who wanted to install Islamic rule in Kenya, etc. Joe Scarborough used this tactic when he used to say people were accusing him of murdering his aide, when in fact we were simply writing that she WAS murdered in his office and he DID cover that up. No one suggested that he was the murderer…just that the murder should’ve been investigated, and he conspired with the police department and a disbarred medical examiner to lie to the media that the murder was death by “natural causes.”

The truth is always more complicated than a lie, so a lie is easier to deny.

Comment by Mr. X | 2008-06-20 22:04:36

WOW! Thanks for recommending the entire article. He’s still PO’d about things that the Drudge Report did. He’s completely delusional. He thinks Hillary had something to do with the Muslim thing.

This guy is his own worst enemy for propagating this image of being that petty. I think he’s the one who should get over it.

Further, it’s not that John McCain isn’t aligned with us, it’s the the Democrat (in-name only) isn’t either. He just likes to give us the lip service. Like the cute frat boy who will say anything to get into your pants and then once he’s used you he leaves.

And another thing, that Obama has the so-called “progressive blog” “leaders” right where he wants them. After calling us, deadenders, sore losers and much worse for refusing to vote for Obama, how now are they going to walk away from the guy they enabled Dean and Donna and the gang to “hand” Obama the nomination. I know alot of them -Josh (for Iraq war before he was against it) Marshall and Daily (mistake removing name from MI ballot and bowing to RI and NH)KOS- have reversed themselves in the past but this reverse will definitely leave mark. OUCH!

Let the long walkback begin. Maybe we can line the so called “progressive blog leaders’” route to redemption and hand out bottle water, it is hot in August, No?

Comment by StrawberrybitesBarky | 2008-06-21 11:57:27

As far as I’m concerned those “progressive bloggers” can go fuck themselves. They chose party over country, and their own selfish interests over what is truly important. I will never read another one of their goddamned blogs. They rolled over to fear and threats instead of standing up for what’s right. And I will never forget the one true blog that stood against the hate and threats and bullshit. Larry and the crazy brave folks at No Quarter. You have my undying gratitude.

I am scretching my head when I hear arguments that it was wrong to wote for the war. It is not how I remember. I still believe that the vote to allowe use of force was abused and twisted out from its original purpose to start a war that could have been avoided.

Sad story.

A new NEWSWEEK Poll shows that he has a substantial double-digit lead, 51 percent to 36 percent, over McCain among registered voters nationwide.

Obama’s current lead also reflects the large party-identification advantage the Democrats now enjoy—55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent call themselves Republicans or lean that way. Even as McCain seeks to gain voters by distancing himself from the unpopular Bush and emphasizing his maverick image, he is suffering from the GOP’s poor reputation among many voters.

Obama is running much stronger at this point in the race than his two most recent Democratic predecessors, Sen. John Kerry and Vice President Al Gore, who both failed in their bids to win the White House. In a July 2004 NEWSWEEK Poll, Kerry led Bush by only 6 points (51 percent to 45 percent). In June 2000, Gore was in a dead heat with Bush (45 percent to 45 percent)—which is essentially where he ended up when that razor-thin election was finally decided.

Comment by Democrat | 2008-06-20 21:23:31

Obama seems to have built his margin in part by picking up a key slice of Clinton’s support, including women. Women voters in the new poll prefer him over McCain by 21 points (54 percent versus 33 percent). Defections to McCain by Hillary Clinton supporters are also down significantly since she dropped out of the race and endorsed the Obama. In the new poll, registered Democrats and Democratic leaners who supported Clinton during the primaries now favor Obama over McCain by 69 percent to 18 percent. In last month’s survey, Clinton supporters backed the Illinois senator by a significantly smaller margin, 53 percent to 34 percent. Registered independents have also moved toward Obama, backing him by a 48 percent to 36 percent margin after splitting about evenly in last month’s poll.

Comment by AJSHOPE | 2008-06-20 21:30:59

Hahaha, whatever makes you feel better. Everyone except for 2 polls (both of which have been proven to use questionable methods) have McCain and Obama in a statistical dead heat.

Also better hope Obama raises more than 22 mil in June. Not that money will really matter if he keeps talking.

Finally the media is reporting what they should. Obama’s true colors are showing. It’s just a matter of time…

Sucka’s all of them. I said BO would do a half gainer with a reverse on the last open thread regarding FISA. Oh yeah…must have something to do with Rockefeller’s idorkment… (”see hear BO, you leave me and my telco buddies alone and…)

Campaign finance reform AND Telco Imunity in 24 hours… Hey Fiengold you asshole, what did you think he would do?

Hey Dodd, what was all that stuff from the CRAP CANNON BO sold you on when you where going batshit crazy over Telco Immunity?

In the United States, ex post facto laws are prohibited in federal law by Article I, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution and in state law by section 10. Over the years, when deciding ex post facto cases, the United States Supreme Court has referred repeatedly to its ruling in the Calder v. Bull case of 1798, in which Justice Chase established four categories of unconstitutional ex post facto laws. The case dealt with Article I, section 10, since it dealt with a Connecticut state law.

Finally, Calder v. Bull expressly stated that a law that “mollifies” a criminal act was merely retrospective and not an ex post facto law. The current debate over granting telecoms retroactive immunity for their part in warrantless wiretapping is one that does not invoke the ex post facto clause in the U.S. Constitution.

Wiki is wuked up.

What a ship of fools!

I’m much more concerned with a bunch of phony assed elitists trying to tell me if I can smoke, where, what I can eat, how much I should weigh, what speed I should drive, what my thermostat should be on ….OK.

If a freakin’ terrorist is planning to do some dirty crap to thousands in this country I WANT US to have every tool at our disposal to find it out BEFORE it happens.

If you aren’t up to no good then there is no reason why they would be tappin’ you.

Than it does to be trying to tell people what to say just cause it ain’t fuzz in your ears.

Also, the FISA they passed today …was not the FISA they considered a few months back. They had put some additional limitations on it that the democrats were happy with.

I agree. I don’t want the government above the law and wiretapping, but lately it sure seems like violating a lot of rights “for our own good” has been even more invasive. Locally we began with a smoking ban, can’t even smoke on your own property if you own a business. No alcohol anywhere in public. Then we banned trans fat, forced all the restaurants to change. No skateboarding, it’s dangerous. Mandatory bike helmets for everybody, 250 dollar fine. We’re currently banning plastic bags. We’ve got cameras on all the street corners. We didn’t have this many rules in high school.

THE SINCLAIR SAGA

I honestly had considered not tackling this issue relating to Larry Sinclair and Obama.
I have been following this story since early February. I was unsure if this was just a rumor or smear as the Obama lovers claim or if this was a news worthy event. I began reading the blogs, newspapers in Chicago, and watched the You Tube videos. The more I read of the tactics the Obama campaign and bloggers were using to smear all persons not supporting him and calling nonbelievers as Racists I concluded that We Bloggers and Anti Obama websites have a duty to report the news. The MSM has decided Larry Sinclair is not credible based on an article post at Politico as stated by Fox News Reporter Greta on gretawire.com. We have seen this pattern repeatedly during the Primary race between H. Clinton and Obama. If it concerned Clinton it was taken to task but Obama was and still is being given a free pass. In conclusion this behavior makes me question maybe Obama did have a Sinclair encounter and the Obama camp wants to cover it up and call it smear propaganda. I am giving you links to investigate for yourself the Sinclair Obama connection

Yes, yes, yes. Please do give attention to Larry Sinclair. There is much there. There is murder in Obama’s own church. Obama says nothing about it.
Total lack of class on his part? Well, yeah… that’s typical Obama. But there are too many crossing lines in the sinclair story that give it credence.

As for Greta’s stupid declaration that there was no story worth reporting on… shame on her.
The line was that because sinclair had a police record he wasn’t credible?

I thought Greta prouded herself on being a lawyer, and a trial attorney at that.

Um duh….Greta… Ever heard of using a person as a witness even though they had a criminal background?

NEVER heard of that Greta? Ever been in a courtroom Greta? Really?

And how do you think that mafia folk are ever convicted? Because they stole candy in front of a cop at the local five and dime?

Who do you think is going to testify that he did drugs with and gave a blowjob to Obama?

You think it’s gonna be the Governor’s son?

Please folks push the Sinclair stuff and tell Greta that real lawyers know that imperfect people are capable of giving valuable testimony.

So, as long as THE ONE supports the bill, that’s ok, but anyone else is wrong. What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they insane? Stupid? On drugs? How can they not see their own hypocrisy?

Then later, he can claim that he supported whatever position ultimately proves out to be the most advantagous for him without any “paper trail” to deter the hypocrisy. That’s been his MO so far.

Comment by Susan1968 | 2008-06-20 22:09:33

Now that Obama has thrown the 4th Amendment under the bus by deciding to vote for the FISA bill, the previously Obama-loving, “PROGRESSIVE HIGH-INFORMATION DEMOCRATS,” are starting to sound like Clinton Democrats. Some comments from the progressive blog:

…………………………………

Don’t be so sure. Many of us didn’t think he’d sell us out on this issue. My rage has me shaking now and I’m done with DemoCorpRATes. What makes you think Obama won’t sell us out in terms of the Supreme Court for some kind of sickening middle ground?

———–

I’m thinking about this, and how he’ll be asking for our votes and our help in a couple of months, and we can tell him where to go with a clear conscience … because when we needed him to stand up for us, he told us where to go.

————-

I got a “make a donation” e-mail from Heath Schuler – sent back an e-mail saying that I wanted to be removed because he is a Blue Dog and sold out the Constitution today.

—————

It never crossed my mind that Obama would respond the way he did an I’m disgusted by it.

I think crazy Dr. Ron Paul will get my vote.

——————-

I also just unsubscribed from Obama’s e-list, with a few choice words that ended with “no more money, no more time, no more vote”. Bastards.

——————

silly me – i would have thought that the dems should have learned a lesson from nader. piss off the high information dem to your peril.

—————–

I just unsubscribed, as well. My message was, “I gave you my support, you spat on my Constitution. Please do not contact me again.”

———————

I suspect the Democrats have considerably underestimated the loss of momentum they have just inflicted on themselves.

————————-

Not a DIME! And tell the O campaign to take you off their email lists and never ask you for money again.

———————–

So I’m supposed to support (as in give money I worked my ass off to get) to someone who at the first opportunity spits on the constitution? Fuck that.

One Hillary supporter posted there. He/she said something like, “Now you know how Hillary suporters feel. Obama will tell you to suck it up because where else can you go, right?”

Comment by HARP | 2008-06-20 22:28:46

I saw this so many times when Hillary was kicked to the curb, and have been waiting to use it:

7 Stages of Grief…

1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
You will probably react to learning of the loss with numbed disbelief. You may deny the reality of the loss at some level, in order to avoid the pain. Shock provides emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks.

2. PAIN & GUILT-
As the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain. Although excruciating and almost unbearable, it is important that you experience the pain fully, and not hide it, avoid it or escape from it with alcohol or drugs.

You may have guilty feelings or remorse over things you did or didn’t do with your loved one. Life feels chaotic and scary during this phase.

3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
Frustration gives way to anger, and you may lash out and lay unwarranted blame for the death on someone else. Please try to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time for the release of bottled up emotion.

You may rail against fate, questioning “Why me?” You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair (”I will never drink again if you just bring him back”)

4. “DEPRESSION”, REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
Just when your friends may think you should be getting on with your life, a long period of sad reflection will likely overtake you. This is a normal stage of grief, so do not be “talked out of it” by well-meaning outsiders. Encouragement from others is not helpful to you during this stage of grieving.

During this time, you finally realize the true magnitude of your loss, and it depresses you. You may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories of the past. You may sense feelings of emptiness or despair.

7 Stages of Grief…

5. THE UPWARD TURN-
As you start to adjust to life without your dear one, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms lessen, and your “depression” begins to lift slightly.

6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
As you become more functional, your mind starts working again, and you will find yourself seeking realistic solutions to problems posed by life without your loved one. You will start to work on practical and financial problems and reconstructing yourself and your life without him or her.

7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
During this, the last of the seven stages in this grief model, you learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation. Acceptance does not necessarily mean instant happiness. Given the pain and turmoil you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.

7 stages of grief…

You will start to look forward and actually plan things for the future. Eventually, you will be able to think about your lost loved one without pain; sadness, yes, but the wrenching pain will be gone. You will once again anticipate some good times to come, and yes, even find joy again in the experience of living.

I’m at Pissed Off and Fighting Mad and I wasn’t too warm and fuzzy about Hillary in the beginning. She grew on me, and I understand that in order to retire her debt she caved. Its not about her anymore. Its about him and whether this country is safe. Its not safe with Obama as president, its not.

I view this battle as an epic one, one for the survival of our nation, our ideals, the principals of the founders of this nation. One vote is one vote, not one-half. Lies are lies, changing your position to suit the moment is not leadership, its following the wind.

I assume she means health care. Obama will surely use her plan, not his. It’s a no-brainer, really.

Comment by Ann MacNaughton | 2008-06-21 15:53:57

What makes you think BHO will use her plan? It takes work to get UNIVERSAL health care in place, give lobbying opposition. BHO’s track record is not to bother with policy wonking, instead to ‘just say yes’ to lobbyists. 527 funds? Soros? Rezko? Are you listening?

Come to think of it, what makes you think he will have anything to do with it. Before you wind up under the bus too, why not help us lift the tires out of the mud and get back on the road to nominating Hillary in August and electing her in November?

Comment by Ann MacNaughton | 2008-06-21 15:51:18

Kevin, you are exactly right. “Its not about her anymore. Its about him and whether this country is safe. Its not safe with Obama as president, its not. . . I view this battle as an epic one, one for the survival of our nation, our ideals, the principals of the founders of this nation.”

AND it is about the well-being of the rest of the world too. “If we aren’t part of the solution, we are part of the problem.” Just think about the Ansammerae Chicago-Iraq tip of the iceberg.

If you have not read Riane Eisler’s 1987 book, ‘The Chalice and the Blade’, now would be a very good time to order from Amazon.com this cogent explication of the cataclysmic turning point when the direction of human evolution is branching again.

The way of the ‘chalice’ (turning our country back toward governance based on principles that support the life-generating and nurturing powers of the universe) is to get Hillary nominated in August. McCain is the obvious continuation of the domination of the ‘lethal power of the blade’. And the Obama Nation? Led by evil, followed by delusional, is how it looks to me. But maybe I’m missing some key point.

He really needs to hammer that on Obama.

This type of stuff is for them, I am guessing.

Won’t work. He keeps talking about foreign policy. As long as he talks and reveals the depth of his ignorance on topics, they are going to remain in shock that he could be the commander in chief. It’s like Reagan after alzheimers set in.

They’ll have to set up an administration where the president doesn’t get much of a say to protect themselves from his ignorance.

Popped over to MYBO blog to see what’s up with unusually silent Obamatrons today …

They’re talking about how they are going to become the biggest lobbying group DC has ever seen. They’re encouraging each other to call their Senators about the upcoming Senate vote on FISA. One of them responds “Oh my god! McCain is my Senator! … Help!”

Hello? Did she just now find out that McCain is her Senator? Talk about “LOW INFORMATION VOTER.”

This is what happens when people are too lazy to do the research and are too easily swayed by media propaganda. Any research into Obama’s background would show he is no progressive or liberal and not even really a Democrat.

I can’t believe the mess we are in.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-06-20 23:51:29

None of us could do research because he’s never really done much. LOL*

What was missing to me was realistic thinking. I find it amazing that educated people are willing to blindly defend someone based on nothing more than vague slogans.

Just amazing to see the real prejudiced thinking going on. “Gee, he’s AA and talks nice, so he must think just like me on all my issues.” They didn’t even ask questions!

And I never got the lack of ability to grasp why his health care plan wasn’t good. They were so willing to just say, “Oh, they are identical.”

Anyway…something is missing in these brains of “progressives.” They put together arguments and whatnot, but they don’t really think.

I don’t think Obama supporters were thinking. Like anyone can, they got swept up in the excitement and newness of it all.

The media was no help. They reinforced all of this.

On the FISA thing Senator Dodd did all he could to stop it cold. Now in the new and improved FISA bill telecoms still get immunity. That was a key sticking point for most Democrats.

If the compromise includes limits how are they to be enforced? Heck, the Democrats were unable to enforce Congressional subpoenas for goodness sake. Now they’re going provide oversight to major corporations?

I’m not surprised by any of this. I was hoping I was wrong about Obama. But he never “set right” with me from the beginning.

Barky’s chit runs like a pig puking….
Barky, apparently didn’t listen to his advisors before spewing this chit….He claims Saddam was not a threat to his neighbors..Barky,can’t remember Hussein invading Kuwait…
http://www.votesmart.org/speech_detail.php?sc_id=268964&keyword=&phrase=&contain=
Now let me be clear: I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power…. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him. But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors…and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.

I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars. So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.

Comment by Mary Ellen | 2008-06-20 22:47:39

The only thing that could make this sweeter, would be to have Hillary Clinton come out and say that she will vote against it and that there is nothing more important than civil liberties. That would stick it to every single Democrat who stabbed her in the back, including Nancy Pelosi.

I’ve been checking out the Obama progressive blogs and they are ready to hang themselves over this. I’ve seen some who are still supporting Obama,no matter what. But a majority of them said they are stopping all donations and saying, “This is the change we were supposed to get?” I’m enjoying every bit of it.

What they dont get is that they believed all of those speeches like he would step in..wave his magic wand…sprinkle sparkly dust and everyone would be linking hands in congress singing kumbayah as they approved everything put before them.

But they loooooved Nancy P during the primaries and all talked about..god i cant stop laughing…how he would cross party aisles and bring change to washington.

I wish I had the utubes of all of them; richardson, kerry stepping forward saying how he would be changing how things would be done.

But yet they couldnt understand why WE kept wanting to know exactly what “change” meant.

I guess they dont like the definition of what his “change” exactly is.

Fitting really since we dont care for there definition of “unity”. But overall, I am so freaking loving watching them explode all over the place.

I wonder if they stopped public financing because they knew after they started showing them what his “change” meant they wouldnt be sending in all of those 1 dollar grassroot donations online and there babysitting money.

I have zero sympathy for the “progressives.” Yes, we did try to tell them that this guy was way to “marketed.” But if you’re so narrow-minded that you honestly can’t see that a speech (and a later reversal of position) is remotely the same as what Congress was facing with Bush on the war and vehemently INSIST that he’s the candidate of REAL CHANGE (although he’s never actually changed a dang thing), then there is obviously a real problem in discerning reality from fantasy
Obama never really promised them much. A few things promised, he has taken back.

The “progressives” will have a lot of soul searching to do, no doubt, before this is over.

Sounds an awful lot like Stephen Colbert’s ‘I am America and So Can You’ –

‘I am America and Yes We Can’

I don’t think this is a proper use of the official seal of the USA. This is a country of laws, not men (or women). Sovereignty is a collective concept and should not be appropriated to promote the bid for power of any one individual or group of individuals.

It resonates with his cousin’s insistence that anyone wanting into the inner governing circle has to sign a written oath to uphold the effort to incorporate Sharia law into the constitution of Kenya.

In short, it makes me feel very uneasy.

I think it is tolerable in the comedy realm because Colbert’s use of the seal, for example, is ironic and helps us see why that’s NOT ok. This breaks down an important historical boundary that I think, along with things like votes, goes to the core elements of functioning democracy.

The Dem party has always tried to be progressive yet we need to remember our base. The true Core Dems. Well we told you so. Homobana is a created myth proped up by the corporate monied interests who try to control our country. He is a puppet proped up by the controlled corporate media which slams the Clintons and her supporters. McCain, or if we can get him, at the Convention. Clinton. Another four years of Repblican control of presidency, at least we know their positions. 2012.

Oh. my. Please don’t tell me Obama is REALLY using that phony “Presidential Seal” knock-off on his podiums when he speaks. It screams “PIMPIN’ YOUR RIDE”. We have gone from the ridiculous to the absurd. The next 4 months is going to be entertaining: watching this buffoon making it up as he goes. It is “Amateur Night in City Hall”.

I think it is so pathetic the candidate of change continuously changes his position on the issues. This is not the kind of hope I want. I am tired of the empty speeches; empty because they have no substance. If Obama offers a policy issue on the campaign trail, chances are it was already tried. Nothing is new from the candidate except for his success with two words. Two meaningless words.

I am sure everyone would like to know Obama has raised $161,927 from lobbyists: http://www.obama-wire.com/obama_lobbyist.htm

I am sure everyone would to know Obama has a history on the campaign trail of never taking responsibility for the actions of his campaign; instead, he passes the buck off on his campaign: http://www.obama-wire.com/Apologies.htm

And now Obama has the audacity to suggest McCain will come after him on racial ground: http://www.obama-wire.com/racecard.htm

This guy is the biggest joke since 7 minute abs.
