GORE ENDORSES OBAMA; DEAN AND PELOSI RELEASE TIPPER UNHARMED

I don’t know if Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and the DNC had gotten so desperate they kidnapped Tipper to get Gore’s endorsement, but they were probably close. Al Gore endorsed Barack Obama and most people yawned. So what else is new? It wasn’t anything that wasn’t expected. But what it is notable is that it came two weeks after Hillary Clinton endorsed Obama.

There is no doubt that he was pressured heavily by Howard Dean, Pelosi the Axelrod of Evil and the DNC to come out and endorse Obama. Does anyone think he just forgot? The longer Gore waited the worse it looked for Obama and a lot of people in the Obama camp were wondering what he was waiting for.

Gore was being nothing more than a somewhat grudging party loyalist, doing what was asked to do, and whose lack of endorsement to date was speaking volumes by it’s omission. It’s obvious he was asked, cajoled, then ultimately pressured, then finally gave in and came out for Obama.

Given the pathological fear of losing that infects Dean and Pelosi, the pressure must have been enormous. How would you like to hear Nancy Pelosi suffer shortness of breath in your ear? Gore gave them the nightlight, pacifier and endorsement they needed and you can almost imagine Pelosi fanning herself in the parlor moments later.

The truth is if Gore were really enthusiastic about Obama he would have endorsed him a long time ago. I couldn’t help but notice that while Pelosi and Dean were whipping super delegates like Egyptian taskmasters to declare for Obama on June 5th, Gore was strangely silent. Moses seemed to have escaped, But last night after either a lot of begging and pleading and “Al, if you don’t do it now it looks bad”, or Tipper being held captive somewhere, Gore came out and endorsed who he thinks is probably going to be the nominee of the party. And he did it for the sake of the kind of party unity that Dean, Pelosi and the DNC are still in fantasyland about.

The real point about Gore’s endorsement is this: Since Hillary Clinton’s speech two weeks ago the choices for President looked like they had come down to either Obama or McCain. And for two weeks Al Gore couldn’t make up his mind.

I hope Bill doesn’t do it… after all the crap Obamarama team pulled on him.

Don’t do it Bill, you endorsed Hillary, so you’re off the hook. Right?

Comment by NObama in August | 2008-06-21 08:09:08

You know, why should Bill be expected to endorse him? They wanted Bill out of the picture when Hillary was campaigning. He should take the DNC party up on that sentiment.

Comment by mimi | 2008-06-21 10:27:31

I’ll go you one better:

If the Democratic Party doesn’t respect the only 2 term president we’ve had in 50 years, why should we care what Bill thinks?

Dean, Pelosi, Brazile can’t have it both ways. If the Clintons are such a pariah to the Democratic Party then Obama should not need them to campaign for him.

So that’s what I’m going to say to the trolls this week when they show up en masse with that bullshit about Hillary endorsing/campaingning for Obama and if we’re Hillary supporters we should too.

Fuck that!

Since they don’t like Hillary and Bill and have no respect for the Clinton legacy, why should I follow what they say now?

I’m on my own, now. Obama will have to:

WIN WITHOUT ME!!!

Fuck him, his pseudo-Presidential seal, his supporters, the Democratic Party and everything they stand for!

Comment by Gary McGowan | 2008-06-21 05:03:11

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR) report released June 17: the “energy guzzled by Al Gore’s home in the past year could power 232 U.S. homes for a month.

“…Gore devours an average of 177,687 KWh per month…

“By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.”

Comment by Gary McGowan | 2008-06-21 05:20:24

I should have taken a bit more time with that. It’s more clear at the The Tennessee Center for Policy Research site.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-06-21 06:53:00

I wouldn’t take that too seriously. Gore bought an old house and is having it retrofitted with solar, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the numbers are old. Besides, instead of renting big offices he and Tipper have theirs in their house (and I am betting they are not like my husband’s home office which is in our spare bedroom.) I have also read that their security people have living space there. If all this is true than this is an unfair comparison. You would need to add in the energy use of two good-sized offices as well as an apartment to get a comparison, plus commuting. In spite of what the Republicans said about Gore in 2000 he is not a congenital liar or hypocrite so give him the benefit of the doubt, folks.

As for his late endorsement of Obama, there was nothing odd about his waiting until after the primaries were over and it was clear Obama had the numbers. Gore is a loyal Democrat and the party needed to have someone who could be seen as an honest broker if one was needed, which certainly seemed like a good possibility. What is curious is his two week lag in endorsing. I have read many places that he did not like Hillary because she had too much influence when he was VP. That has the ring of truth.(I didn’t say he couldn’t be petty, just that he isn’t a dishonest hypocrite.) If so it is really silly since Bill gave him more power than any previous VP, something we forget since we have had Machiavelli as VP for the past 8 years. And we all know he blamed Clinton’s dalliance for his loss, something which does have some truth to it. I had assumed he preferred Obama, but his waiting two weeks sure seems odd if he did.

Whatever the case I am sick of Democrats bashing Gore. He deserves respect just as the Clintons do, even though he is not perfect. We should be adult enough to know that no one is. Gore deserves the benefit of the doubt. Republicans have the sense to honor their successful leaders but we seem to like to trash ours. If we had stood up for the Clintons and Gore when the right wing attack machine went after them, we would not have suffered the disaster of Bush-Cheney.

Comment by wac for hillary | 2008-06-21 08:08:23

So, it was Clinton’s fault Gore couldn’t carry his own state? What I’m getting tired of is this party loyalty bullshit. When are these politicians going to start caring about the country? Backing Obama is not the way to show me they care.

Comment by olivia1998 | 2008-06-21 08:56:35

Obama did not have the numbers stop lying. He still doesn’t have the delegates without the supper ones and he doesn’t have the popular vote so stop lying. He’s s thug from Chicago

Comment by splashy | 2008-06-21 14:48:13

Gore is a good person, and it is true that he has fixed his energy use problems. I respect Gore, and really think he was pressured into this myself. I bet they harassed him unmercifully.

Doesn’t matter to me about Obama, though. Obama does not reflect my values, and didn’t win the popular vote, not to mention had delegates he did not win given to him.

I’m going Green this time, unless by some way I don’t know about, or something happens to change things, Clinton actually gets the nomination she won. At least the Greens have the stance on issues that I like, and they are running a black woman no less.

No McCain for me.

Don’t you think Mccain would be pushing for this “drip” by now?
Yes he would, but you are all too stupid to realize that.

It’s the issues for me, only the issues. Obama doesn’t address my issues like health care, and his wishy washy support for things like pro-choice, privacy (FISA bill) and the economy (loves free trade, the free market, as opposed to fair trade) really make my decision for me.

Evan Thomas, the assistant managing editor of Newsweek, put it plainly last month.

“Let’s talk a little media bias here,” he said on the PBS program “Inside Washington” on July 11. “The media, I think, want Kerry to win. And I think they’re going to portray Kerry and Edwards . . . as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all, there’s going to be this glow about them that is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, that’s going to be worth maybe 15 points.”

I met this woman, from a high school buddy, who would do polls/testing on movie posters and other things related to them.

She would procrastinate and then she would open up the phone book and make her own poll results.

She got paid big money to do nothing but make up the results.

Polls are only as good as the people taking them and you don’t know who is taking them.

Apparently, Obama has some voter registration issues, similiar to this lady, with ACORN and his attempts to organize more voters. Lots of fraud in those records with various branches it seems.

Someone here had a YouTube with some of Obama’s highlights, hopefully they will repost it, I couldn’t find it in my history.

Very interesting.

Comment by Tyrione | 2008-06-21 18:38:57

What I love about polls is that NONE OF THEM ARE VALID. Their sample sizes are flawed, their demographics are flawed and their questions are pulled towards a singular goal; hence non-objective.

Newsweek has basically endorsed Obama.

I suspect the actual companies who poll at the local levels have a better grasp consistently on how the US polls and votes.

What I love about Obama is he consistently polls 5+ points higher than he actually polls on the day of voting.

Yes, my neck and shoulders too. My eyes are constantly tearing up and I don’t sleep well. They may put a name to it one day and come up with a pill to cure the symptoms. Don’t despair. Anything this crazy has to have a tipping point.

The first time I read Alice in Wonderland, I was eleven years old and it has always been my favorite book. Lewis Carroll may have seen into the future.

The conversation Alice had with the Cheshire Cat is appropriate;

Alice: But I don’t want to be among mad people.
Cat: Oh you can’t help that. We’re all mad here.
You’re mad, I’m mad.
Alice: How do you know I’m mad?
Cat: If you weren’t, you wouldn’t have come here.

The one that makes me cry now because it makes me think of Hillary, is the Queen telling Alice:

If you want to stay where you are, you have to run as fast as you can. If you want to go somewhere else, you have to run twice as fast as that.

Also, expectations are for him not to campaign
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/11160.html
Despite Al Gore’s choreographed endorsement of Barack Obama on Monday, top Democratic strategists don’t expect the 2000 Democratic nominee will risk his environmental agenda by campaigning vigorously in this year’s presidential race.

Those closest to the former vice president also suggest that he may have exhausted his interest in campaign politics, which would explain his change in direction from the 2004 general election, when he made several fiery speeches lambasting the Bush administration.

Gore regularly turns down requests to raise money for the national Democratic Party as well as for gubernatorial and congressional candidates — more indicators that he may be reluctant to return to the partisan rough-and-tumble.

Bill IS sure - and I think he said it politely but they are not listening. The night of the last primaries Bill said “This is my LAST campaign”.

Thanks Tom – Gore actually has risen ABOVE party politics, and is more an “international person”. You are most likely right about the severe pressure on him.

Just today I have received:

- A letter from Dean begging me to renew my DNC membership

- A letter from Pelosi telling me how important I am to the DNC

- A letter from Obama DEMANDING I give him $25, $50 or $100

- 2 phone calls from Illinois. (new DNC center?) Since I do not know anyone I would care to speak with in Illinois, I DID NOT answer (Thank God for caller ID)

I feel swarmed and close to invaded today.

Nellie; I got an email from Dean day before yesterday and maybe they are having computer problems because it was crazy. The same letter printed three times with another old one in the middle. I tried again, for the fourth time, to unsubscribe. What part of “no” don’t they understand?

I got a second letter from BO campaign yesterday (on expensive looking stationary)asking for money too. I was pretty courteous the first time when I answered, but the second is on my desk and my answer will be more to the point.

I read the post on Riverdaughter referring to the CBC meeting where OB says he may be too busy running against McCain to try and heal the rift with Hillary’s supporters. I hope I am not being over sensitive, but it still feels like they don’t care about my vote. He also has his feelings hurt because he said Hillary and Bill spread rumors about him being Muslim.

Perhaps he knows he has lost some Democrats for good. There is one outrage after another and I wonder if he isn’t using this to back us into a corner. He will have a problem with that because we are already shell shocked by the vicious campaign they have waged.

I know the temptation is great to respond to the trolls and I do it myself once in a while, but we need to get to the point where we can ignore their comments. Their comments are appearing more and more robotic and canned, almost as though they are losing their way.

Actually, I meant to address this issue yesterday. I also have unsubscribed to the DNC and many other Dem lists. I continue to get messages and donation request from them–all supporting Obama. My lawyer husband told me to keep a record of the unsubscription, then keep track of the continued e-mails or snail mails. We can sue these groups for MONEY. AFter reading many comments in blogs from other people who are experiencing this harrassment, I wonder if we could form a class action suit. My husband would be only too glad to litigate for us.

Comment by elise | 2008-06-22 02:30:57

The last letter I received from Dean had a huge headline, “John McCain Is Breaking The Law”. In the comment section before I unsubscribed for the forth time, I told him I was going to contact the FCC to find out if he was breaking the law.

I saved all the confirmation codes, but not the emails and I would love to make some noise about this. I got the last one the day after making a small donation to Hillary’s campaign fund and I am still worried the money went to the DNC instead of Hillary’s debt. I checked and was told it didn’t go to the DNC, but do they have a list of her donors?

I won’t send any more donations because it feels like there is some deliberate obfuscation here.

Comment by DAB | 2008-06-21 10:35:43

I too have tried numerous times to delete my name from the DNCs e-mail list and always give a reason why. They seem to stop for a while but then resume again. Comment by Justin | 2008-06-20 16:21:56

I imagine you’re not criticizing him for remaining neutral through the primaries, as many high-level party people choose to do. Since he’s the closest thing to an independent party elder left in the Democratic party, I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

So I you’re interpreting the two weeks between nomination clinching and his speech as reluctance and cajoling? Was he supposed to come out in the first week and step on Hillary’s toes? Or the second week and step on the Barack reorganizing the Democratic party and beginning his campaign stories? Unless you have actual sources saying that Gore isn’t a fan of Barack (of which I’ve heard the opposite) then this is a quite ridiculous post, as the two weeks is far more likely to represent timing than lack of support.

Furthermore, did you even watch the speech? It was probably one of the best endorsement speeches given of Obama this election season – tying in his cause and Obama’s candidacy well. Sure, he gave it because they “twisted his arm” and “held Tipper hostage.”

Have you read or heard any of his speeches during the Bush Admin? Any of them?

He gives excellent speeches. That isn’t surprising.

In fact, where was Obama when Gore was standing up against Bush repeatedly and being mocked for it?

Standing behind Bush, giving him vote after vote, for the war, those who lied to get us into war, and those who profit from the war.

Obama benefits from Gore’s consistant courage to stand up and keep standing up, but not under the banner of that courage.

The way Obama introduces Gore is mostly under the environment banner where he has an Oscar and a Nobel Prize. Where the media finally stopped ridiculing Gore. Who cares…once again it is the cowards way out for Obama.

Since, Gore’s speech even reminds people who know Obama’s REAL stances, and those other Gore speeches against Bush, that Obama doesn’t really deserve Gore’s endorsement.

It is party politics and Gore did his part.

Comment by Karma | 2008-06-21 10:40:01

I should clarify here, that the best I could do with the speeches was flip back and forth because of the constant contradictions were so irritating.

So, I didn’t see every second.

Comment by elise | 2008-06-22 01:07:52

In your flipping, did you notice anything about Obama’s body language? He was sitting on a stool and he was in one of the poses, looking down his nose, but he didn’t seem relaxed. I want to stress this is just my observation and I am not an expert on the subject. I thought he was not happy. The speech is probably on the net somewhere and I want to take another look.

What a train wreck. These endorsements are about as exciting as the fifteenth rabbit pulled out of the hat during a half-hour magic show! BO’s hopes for OH and PA have now vanished along with the good graces of Strickland and Rendell, but–voila! He’s been endorsed by just about every failed nominee the party could drag onto a stage!

At least Gore didn’t endorse Obama after Hillary won big in a state primary, like Edwards did. Was disappointed when he did that.

These endorsements don’t mean anything.Gore, McCaskil, whoever endorses Obama is not going to make the American people vote for him. It does not influence the American people. Obama keeps coming up with certain people to endorse him. It’s funny. He is going to need all the help he can get.He keeps coming out with these endorsements and its not going to CHANGE anything. Most of us have already made up our minds and nothing he can do or his endorsments are going to CHANGE my vote but it might help me decide who to vote for if they come up for re-election.

It was clear watching Gore’s endorsement that it was half-hearted. When Obama went to hug on Gore, it was a little pathetic and Gore was not very receptive. I bet that speech was written by Obama handlers just as Bill Richardson’s was. Remember the stage cues that were found in the transcript of Richardson’s endorsement, “Pause, turn to Barack and smile”. That was hilarious!

I’ve no doubt Gore’s endorsement would have been lauded had it gone to Hillary months ago. He came out late because his relationship to the Clintons is a complex one and he was trying to handle a bumpy situation delicately. It would’ve seemed callous had he announced a ringing Obama endorsement the day after Hillary conceded her campaign and you guys would’ve been demonizing him then for being “insensitive.”

Comment by NObama in August | 2008-06-21 08:11:32

We all thought it was giving the finger to Hillary and her supporters when Obama mentioned that Gore won the popular vote. But when you think about Obama gave the finger to Gore too, right in front of his face and thousands of people.

Comment by sleepy | 2008-06-21 08:15:20

I don’t believe Gore’s endorsement means squat, and the timing of it means even less with the public.

I assumed he’d already endorsed Obama, and would imagine most voters had as well. I like Gore, but speculating about the timing is clutching at straws imho.

I’m not sure. I saw him on a 60 Minutes interview a couple of months ago and I was struck by how bitter he still is about 2000. He was pretty definite about not making an endorsement and so was Tipper.

Things were just beginning to fall apart in the Party then and it’s gotten so much worse and I imagine the pressure has too. This thought makes me sick at my stomach, but consider the possibility Hillary asked him to endorse.

There are so many unknowns in this campaign and a lot of it has been subterranean. Does Hillary know she can’t stop the nomination and he can’t win the primary, but positioning herself to deflect any possible criticism on whether or not she is keeping her word to support the nominee? Or is it possible she is struggling to keep the party together?

In spite of the attempt by the Republicans and the media to portray the Clinton’s as ambitions politicians and liars, I have considered the unthinkable. They are the real thing with an authentic vision for this country.

I know that sounds naive, but it would explain all the opposition.

It is only right that the Core Dems will bring Obama down.. Yes we will bring the Homobana down. Our party stole and lied to us about this creep. Or using the words of Rev Manning, this Mac Daddy. Have you seem pimping his two daughters. He has no shame. Than what can you expect from a drug addicted, crack smoking candidate of change. He is a contolled, blackmailed, compromised puppet. Proped up by his nasty evil wife, Soros money and MSM. Take away his speech writers and teleprompter and you have a pathetic wrimp. Yes it is right that we, Core Dems will bring down this blackmailed myth.

When this mess is over with, Dean, Pelosi, Waxler, the party will be purged and restored to its greatness.

including Mr Gore. He could have remained silent.

Well said Tom. I agree, only still saddened that Al fell to their pressures “for Party” and lost much of his political weight for the bungling and loser of a candidate, who was pushing for things Gore came out publicly AGAINST and also when he stated, his GOAL was to have the candidates come up with their policies on Global Warming, because Global Warming and the enironment DON”T have a political party, “it’s a moral issue”. Heck, B O (the stinker-who knew how appropriate his initials were) isn’t the presumptive nominee yet, both Party Conventions haven’t taken place yet and their agenda hasn’t been adopted. So, while we KNOW it means nothing FOR B O, it did mean something to make this token jester against his OWN WORDS. :(

If Obama is the coming of the Plastic Jesus why is McCain LEADING or only SLIGHTLY under in polling nationally and in key states?

Republicans have not revved up their presidential campaign, neither has McCain. McCain not only is campaigning against Obama but also has to deal with the Bush legacy, years of 28% approval rating and 87% of citizens who believe the country is going in the wrong direction.

ANY democratic nominee should be trampling ANY republican nominee into dust. This isn’t happening Howie and Nancy, please tell us WHY???

I’m from East Tennessee and I can tell you this no one here like Gore. I always wondered why. Now I know why. He’s going to come out for Obama. Now he’s joins the rest of the losers club who have backed Obama I’ve lost count. Howmany presidential contenders who have lost is it now Gore, Edwards, Dodd, Biden, Richarson, Kerry,Kennedy,Dukasis, Dean, Jackson, and Bradley. All the sour puss loosers who couldn’t stand seeing Hillary get what they couldn’t. I have no respect for any of them. I’ve left the Democrats for good. The only qualified candidate was kicked to the curb by her peers. I know she has to do the party thing and campaign for that SOB. I’m gladly casting my vote against him for anyone I can help beat his lieing sorry ass. I’ve informed the local Dems to not contact me for anything anymore. If I could get my money back from the democratic party I would. He the most unqualified looser they could find. Obama played the race card then tried to hang it on Bill. At the event, Obama repeated the little wisecrack that Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000, to thunderous applause. Why would he want to remind people that Hillary won the popular vote, unless it’s to give her the finger once again?

Bush and I are smart, he seems to be saying, because we were able to game the electoral system to deny the nomination/election to the winner of the popular vote.

In the CLINTON Administration’s 1998 Indictment of Osama Bin Laden they stated an alliance between al-Qaeda and Iraq. And stated a “cooperation in weapons development”.

In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the government of
Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on
particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al
Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq.

So before dummy Bush was sworn in on January 20, 2001, before Bush did or said anything, and before 9/11 President Clinton and his terrorism czar Richard Clarke linked Iraq and al-Qaeda!

Al Gore in 2000 voted to overthrow Saddam Hussein…So,it sure looks like Al Gore and Barky need to revisit the records before spewing chit….

Ralph Nader Challenges Al Gore To Make His Obama Endorsement Count

“And most important of all, we need to put a price on carbon – with a CO2 tax that is then rebated back to the people, progressively, according to the laws of each nation, in ways that shift the burden of taxation from employment to pollution. This is by far the most effective and simplest way to accelerate solutions to this crisis.”
Al Gore during his Nobel Laureate acceptance speech in Oslo, Norway

Senators Obama and McCain both oppose a CO2 tax and instead favor the more politically expedient, manipulatable, evasive cap-and-trade approach.

I think it is so pathetic the candidate of change continuously changes his position on the issues. This is not the kind of hope I want. I am tired of the empty speeches; empty because they have no substance. If Obama offers a policy issue on the campaign trail, chances are it was already tried. Nothing is new from the candidate except for his success with two words. Two meaningless words.

I am sure everyone would like to know Obama has raised $161,927 from lobbyists: http://www.obama-wire.com/obama_lobbyist.htm

I am sure everyone would to know Obama has a history on the campaign trail of never taking responsibility for the actions of his campaign; instead, he passes the buck off on his campaign: http://www.obama-wire.com/Apologies.htm

And now Obama has the audacity to suggest McCain will come after him on racial ground: http://www.obama-wire.com/racecard.htm

This guy is the biggest joke since 7 minute abs.

Someone above cited “respect’. surely, you don’t think that respect is something that “Precious Obama” as Lou Dobbs called Him back in March(!) does not have in him to give!

Watch the respect that Chicago thug-transplant gave to his fellow (female) Senator the day after his pathetic ‘performance’ at the Pa. Debate where he STUTTERINGLY AND PATHETICALLY SHOWED HIMSELF TO BE THE UNENLIGHTENED JUVENILE OF POLITICAL DISCOUSE! Stephanopoulos was obviously shocked at Obama’s lack of responses and delayed reaction throughout! He did not appreciate the QUESITONS ON CHARACTER…Well, big ears will just have to hear the 18 million cracks when they explode on the DNC’s collective heads come November when the voters deliver their bitter verdict to this fraudulent political huckster whom AXELORD helped elevate to Mayor Dailey’s level of corruptibility.

HE STOLE THE ELECTION FROM SEN. ALICE PALMER, his African american mentor and knocked her off the ballot. He stole the nomination from Hillary!

A Woman-basher of the highest order and a JayZ rapper-wannabe artist as he appeared on the YuTube’s mega-hit:

‘OBAMA GIVES HILLARY THE FINGER” — when are women’s organizations going to complain about Obama’s despicable lack of respect and blatant misogyny….McCain will teach him anyway…
