Obama Channels McGovern In More Ways Than One

Recently, I wrote about how similar Obama’s supporters are to those of George McGovern–channeling the nastiest of their offensive characteristics and philosophies. In McGovern’s case, it led to one of the biggest bashings in a General Election in history, save for Mike Dukakis. But I will save Dukakis for another day.

There have been many discussions of the astounding similarities between McGovern and Obama as fringe candidates who offended the senses of the majority of America, who by and large are not as loud as The Fringe — but who instead tend to register their disdain at the polls.

While channeling George McGovern, we would certainly hope that Obama is a bit more careful than George was in his selection of Vice Presidential partners, given the problem with Mr. Eagleton and his undisclosed foray into the world of Electro-Shock therapy.

I do suppose that given recently uncovered Countrywide loan events, this would as a minimum rule out the loyal Senator Dodd, although there doesn’t appear to be a mental history. Just a history of pocketing about $80,000 in interest savings, while registering appropriate outrage on-cue and as he asked suffering American taxpayers to bail out the same subprime lender who gave him his “VIP” deal.

As I think about it, there are several other similarities between the McGovern campaign and the Obama Campaign besides ill-behaved and rude, threatening followers. Music seems to play a big role in the Obama campaign. More correctly, Rap has a big role, as so many of us do not regard Rap as music. Many of us are not even sure what to call it. We do know that its the medium to refer to when you want to learn as many ways as possible to kill people and beat the crap out of women. However, Obama worshippers find Rap to be appropriate to their candidate. The rest of us do too.

We have seen plenty of Youtubers use Rap to worship Obama in faux-song, and even the classless, crude and crass Obama himself has paid homage to one famed rapper on video, while giving Hillary Clinton the finger and brushing Whatever from his shoulders.

However, the use of music was also an integral part of the McGovern campaign, with one exception: George McGovern had far too much class and was far too much of an actual adult to do what Obama did on camera. Still, while today we have the Yes We Can song, created just for Obama, The Man Himself, in 1972 there was The McGovern Song, also written just for McGovern, The Man Himself. Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate the lyrics, but for $50 you can get your own copy of the The McGovern Song in it’s own special sleeve here. So we see yet another similarity between the two campaigns.

While bad behavior, incessant chanting and rallies, and music are definitely similarities between the two campaigns, I never realized exactly how much Obama has channeled the doomed McGovern campaign, till I was reminded of George McGovern’s campaign logo. Here is the now famous, and hopefully soon to be infamous, Barack Obama “sun” logo (pre-”Presidential Seal”, of course)

Now let’s have a look at George McGovern’s “sun” logo:

Amazing, isn’t it? Or is Eerie a more appropriate word?

Barack Obama: May you channel George McGovern all the way to November 4.

Poor thing has to channel somebody, ’cause he sure can’t come up with anything substantial on his own.

Obama seems incapable of an original thought
or an original speech
or an original issue
or an original policy

the man is not just an empty suit
he is VOID of any moral compass

30 years ago, there were a lot of people who were espousing the same thoughts about Ronald Reagan — that is, until times became very tough and the incumbent party looked impotent. Then, most of those same people shrugged their shoulders, took a leap of faith, and voted for the guy anyway.

Thanks in no small part to the GOP’s highanded greed, corruption, arrogance, indifference and incompetence, our current times are now such that I’ll now gladly take that same leap. Under no circumstances will I vote for a Republican for any office.

With reckless indifference and selfish impunity, the Republicans have placed at imminent risk both our respective individual livelihoods and our collective national security.

Therefore, as far as I’m concerned, the Republicans have forfeited their right to govern in any capacity for the foreseeable future — which, if I had my way, would preferably be until the 20-year anniversary of the death of my last surviving grandchild. And FYI, I don’t have any grandchildren yet …

Comment by LilRod | 2008-06-22 18:12:55

I cuncurr with your assessment of Reagan. But the point is that the same words : “greed, corruption, arrogance, indifference and incompetence” applies to this forcefed Dem nominee and our party’s collusion in promoting this illusion..therein is our decision not to repeat the past.

We are in agreement here that we are Americans first..and members of a Party second.

We choose to do the right thing for America..BECAUSE our party has not done the right thing by us and for what is best for America.

At least George McGovern was a decent human being (along with being a World War II hero, which he never mentioned or exploited for political gain).

Barack Obama is nothing more than an opportunistic manipulator, and a liar.

Comment by LilRod | 2008-06-22 18:57:25

That is the bottom line..with McGovern we never had to question the plethera of the unknowns that we have with Obama.

On top of that, with Obama..THAT which we DO know…is mightly scary stuff indeed

he had actually accomplished a few things in life BEFORE deciding to run - and was genuinely anti-war.

Comment by John | 2008-06-22 14:32:52

Let’s examine the recent breakdown of Obama’s change you can believe in:

1. Rejects public financing and thumbs his nose at the millions of Americans who have checked that $3 box on their tax-returns in the hope of bringing some integrity to Presidential elections.

2. Assures AIPAC that military options will never be off the table when it comes to Iran - after attacking Hillary during his campaign for warning Iran that military options are not off the table.

3. Vows to filibuster any FISA bill that includes telecom immunity - and annouces now that he will vote for a FISA bill that includes telecom immunity.

4. Attacks Hillary for (unproven) ties to Countrywide Mortgage -then appoints the former head of Fannie Mae to “vet” his VP choices. Jim Johnson resigns when it is learned he has received $7 million in loans at preferential rates from Countrywide.

5. Attacks John McCain for voting against a pork-laden bill for “improving” levees. Obama fails to mention that Sen. Claire McCasgill, who works for his campaign - voted exactly the same way as John McCain did on the same bill. It was a bad bill.

And this is just in the past 10 days. McGovern at least lost based on sticking to his stated principles. Obama (or OPossum) seems to have no principles.

5.

Don’t forget that one of the largest segment of contributors to his campaign via Wall St. are sub-prime mortgage lenders. And he is going to resolve the housing crisis????

It’s ALL just words.

Here’s one line and the link.

Obama’s much vaunted intelligence is in reality nothing but smoke and mirrors.

Found the following on a link from Pundita at Rezko Watch. Is there a single arm he has left untwisted?

Brooks said she told Shank she would stay in the race. “I made the comment that I may need to jump over to Hillary’s side because I’m not going to be treated like a dish rag,” she said. I asked if she was serious. “I’m very serious if they keep trying to get me out of the race and I learn that Obama is behind it,” she said.”

He treats everybody like dishrags - of course he is behind it, it is his method.

uppity great catch on the sun logo.

The McGovern - Obama rerun was in my mind from the start of this year and in the early days I posted often how it takes somebody who went through it to possibly understand it wasn’t a good thing.

Obama isn’t worthy of being compared to George though. Geroge was and is a far better man.

We’d be way better off if they reran McGovern for crissakes!

I’d vote for George again over Obama - but I still will never forgive the DNC’s current batch of crooks.

In response to Obama’s claim that Republicans will use race to stoke
fear, Lt. Col Allen West, candidate for Congress in Florida’s 22
District issued this release: (Clarice Feldman)

“My advice to Senator Obama is to run as a Man and Leader, and the
American people will evaluate you as such, not as a victim. This is a
Presidential race, based solely on a capacity to lead the United States
of America. It is not about skin tone…however, perhaps we should come
to expect these immature statements.

It also seems rather humorous that the Presidential candidate who was
supposed to be such a “uniter” and transcend race is the one talking
about it the most. If Senator Obama was confident in his abilities and
character, he would not need to create a crutch for failure. Senator
Obama has just tipped his hand, any criticism of him and his policies
will be directly attributed to racism. I congratulate Senator Obama for
taking race relations in America back some 30 years.” Lt. Col Allen West

CONTEST!

OK. Who had the biggest political rally of all time in the US? Well before some ObiGoNutty and TickleMeLeggs fans start responding - it was G.Mc in 1964. Yes the invisible one did show up in the middle of a 70,000 person crowded out door rock concert in the state that Mr. 0 voted to run a pipeline accross the lenght of their beach. But Mr. Mac Gov filled a 100,000 seat stadium and had 10s of thousands outside in 1964.

I just had some crow and felt like serving it. I Know it was off topic. But, then again, so is the junior senator from Illinois.

That’s right folks!
Anyone that tells us that he will get us out of Iraq no matter what the conditions on the ground and then turn around and get us back into Iraq if Alqueda sets up a base is looking at the ultimate in casualties and quagmire. Not to mention Obama’s stance on bombing a nuclear power like Pakistan or his new found knowledge that Iran is a grave threat and not just some tiny state
All this miscalculation on the part of Obama and his minions will insure endless war and a certain draft for all those kids that think he will prevent war.

McCain hates war but will do what’s necessary to protect the United States of America
