Countrywide Owns Obama

This is the kind of “new” politician Barack Obama represents–he has collected more money from Countrywide Financial in the last four years than any other member of Congress and, in exchange, sponsored legislation favorable to Countrywide. Got that?

Here’s the evidence:
countrywide.jpg

Note that this chart covers money received since 1989 and Mr. Obama has only been in the Congress since 2004. What a money grubbing hypocrite. Obama has raked it in faster than any member of Congress. And, surprise of all surprises, Barack joined Senator Chris Dodd in co-sponsoring a housing relief bill that encouraged lenders to refinance and stabilize existing mortgages. Of course, said lenders make money off of the refinancing loans.

Maybe Barack can do for American homeowners what he has done for the poor folks living in squalid apartment buildings in Chicago.

Make any checks payable to: Hillary Clinton for President as checks made out this way can only be used to pay that debt. Give up an extra cocktail, coffee, ice cream or pack of butts and send a donation before time runs out. After the convention, she will no longer be allowed to collect donations to her campaign.

Please head over to riverdaughter.wordpress.com

We are trying to get contributions tonight to retire the debt. Go on and post your receipt details.

Thanks.

I had donated to HRC’s campaign up until she came out in support for Obama. HRC could have faded into the shadows and done nothing let the public handle this travesty. Instead she has as far as I am concerned sold us out…She has enough money in the GE fund to payoff debt owed to vendors. If she is not concerned about her personal loan to the campaign being paid off, then why bother supporting and endorsing Obama? She fought him tooth and nail, as someone not qualified to hold the Presidential office. Now she is doing a complete turn around! I do not know about the rest of you but something does not add up here…NO MORE MONEY FOR HRC!
We all should seriously think about switching to the independent party. Our Country (our soldiers are giving their lives and being maimed for our freedom of speech, choice etc… and safety) demands it and we must show respect and support our military. I have a family of approximately 435+ and the majority has served in the military since WWI to present; and the ones I’ve been able to contact are reregistering as independent we are not going to be loyal to a party that does not (with all their education) open their eyes to the chaos in America and the world, and the fact we do not need another puppet in the Whitehouse. God Save this Country and Bless us ALL

I think you missed the part about “since 1989″. When you divide the totals over the number of years each person was in the Senate taking donations Senator Clinton’s average total is much smaller yearly than Obama’s total which began in 04.

Thus, McCain took an average of $523.68 per year, Senator Clinton took an average of $1,800 per year and Obama took an average of $5,725 per year. Three times Senator Clinton’s total and more than 10 times McCain’s total.

Comment by sleepy | 2008-06-29 08:18:03

Neither you nor I know when Hillary or Obama took those funds. Hillary could have taken all of hers in the past 6 months. So to average them out as you do says nothing.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-28 19:02:53

As there is no timetable associated with the donations, it is pure conjecture to say Obama has received more than anyone else in the last 4 years. But that LJ would state this conjecture as fact is no surprise.

Considering Obama will receive over $250,000,000 for this campaign, the claim is Countrywide owns him with four years worth of contributions that total 1/10th of 1 percent of his contributions. That’s equivalent to saying you can “own” someone who earns $100,000 a tear by giving then ten bucks.

Finally, this is the first I have heard that the legislation mentioned is intended to benefit lenders. It is not. It is intended to benefit borrowers by reducing their mortgage payments.

So, supposition as fact, 0.1% buys someone, and a flatout lie about the legislation. All in all a typical piece for LJ.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-28 19:06:53

Oops, typo. Make that 1/100 of 1 percent (.01%)

Comment by John | 2008-06-28 21:16:09

Awesome Obamabot logic. Obama takes bribes and does favors for EVERYONE, so he’s not owned by ANYONE.

Really, just brilliant. You ought to apply to Obama Central for a Gold Star.

I’m sure Countrywide donated to Obama because…um, because….they were just taken with his message of Hope and Change. I’m sure they believe that Obama will reform and regulate the insurance industry, but that’s ok with them because heck, they’ve earned enough money over the years, it’s time to give a little back, right?

Hey, I think the Hatter just asked if you want more tea. You Obamatrons never, EVER cease to amaze.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-28 21:33:11

Well, good to see you are an informed citizen. Only problem is, this is about he mortgage industry, not the insurance industry.

And you will note that Clinton also took “bribes” from Countrywide.

Please point out a specific action where you believe Obama or Clinton showed they had been bribed by Countrywide. I’m willing to be convinced.

Of course Countrywide thought this would get them influence. With all the politicians they donated to. Every politician receives far, far too much money from special interests. But it is odd that ou seem to think that Obama is the only one who accepts this money. If I made the rules, I’d outlaw all special interest donations of any kind. But that will probably never happen.

But hey if you don’t mind being lied to, go for it. Just don’t bother coming around here making excuses for him. We always knew he was full of it.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-29 01:22:10

I am enough of a realist to understand that in order for a progressive to win the presidency, they need to pivot to the center after the primary. And this will pis off some of Obama’s supporters.

But the reality is John McCain has been on both sides of almost every issue, so I don’t see that as a differentiating factor.

This is politics. Hillary was all about leadership, right? What has her leadership been on the mortgage issue or FISA? To date she does not even have a public position on the FISA bill. Nobody’s perfect and nobody’s a saint. Understand that, and support the candidate that most closely represents your views. But, you say, Obama flipped on FISA. OK, assuming I was completely against the FISA bill, where does that leave me in picking a candidate?

Perhaps if we all realize politicians are politicians, we might be able to make better decisions.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-29 15:05:12

I did not make that claim about Obama or about Hillary. So, no, we are not clear.

It really is sad how many people get caught up in the gottcha aspects of a campaign and lose sight of the fact that we are not picking a prom queen/king, we are picking a president. Hillary said this about Bosnia, Obama get her the finger. Please. It’s about war and the economy and abortion and health care and taxes and regulation, etc.

A good first step in becoming a mature voter would be to lose the childish name calling. If you want to be taken seriously that is. If you just want to sit in an echo chamber and bitch and complain, well, that’s your right, but you are not accomplishing anything.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-06-29 15:34:46

And it was about New Hampshire tears when you BOBOweenies all wanted it to be about New Hampshire tears. And, it was about Hillary doing anything to win when you BOBOweenies all wanted it to be about Hillary doing anything to win. LMAO so after all the gotcha Politics you BOBOweenies engaged in when you BOBOweenies wanted it to be about Gotcha politics, now you BOBOweenies don’t want it to be about gotcha politics now that you BOBOweenies no longer want it to be about gotcha politics.

Comment by Annagain | 2008-06-28 19:04:59

Here Obama goes again — pretending to be something he clearly is not — he purports to be the new politics, meanwhile, its just the old politics as usual. All this and no experience or concrete policies either. Why is the DNC trying to force this man down our throats. What do they hope to accomplish?

I truly don’t know whether to feel angrier at Senator Obama, his campaign manager, David Axelrod, and the media, for perpetrating such fraud on the American people or to feel sad for his supporters, who seems to turn a blind eye to all of this and forgive him anything and everything, even though he is now pandering to the right and reneging on his campaign promises.

I’m in the process of writing an article. Here’s a paragraph from it:

To find out where a candidate gets his or her campaign funds, go to opensecrets.org. http://www.opensecrets.org/ There, you’ll find out who gets the most money from the financial and real estate sector, for example. Sen. Obama got $19.5m so far while Sen. McCain received $13.3m. How about hedge funds? It seems Obama got $771,000 while McCain was given $277,000. What if we narrow the financial sector down to the finance/credit companies: Obama has $122,655 while McCain has $70,138. What about lawyers and lobbyists? Obama: $18m; McCain: $6m.

I was unaware that Obama sponsered this bill. It was sponsered by Dodd and Shelby, and it passed th Senate by 84 to 12. So yeah, Obama was quite pivitol.

Obama has this statement about the bill on his site:

“The Dodd-Shelby bill makes a start through such features as funding mortgage counseling and providing emergency assistance for communities with high foreclosure rates. But the heavy hand of special interests has again had too much influence on this bill. Special interests have insisted on putting in unnecessary tax breaks for the profits enjoyed by home builders during their boom years, and on keeping out a change to our bankruptcy laws that would remove preferential treatment for mortgage lenders.

“I am particularly disappointed that the bill neglects what should be our top priority — a strong program to stop a cascade of foreclosures and place a floor under the housing market. The Senate should move forward immediately with the housing legislation I am proud to be working on with Senator Dodd — legislation that authorizes the FHA to refinance the mortgages of distressed homeowners in a way that shares the pain, and the possible gains, fairly among homeowners, mortgage owners, and the government. The American people are demanding action from their government, and we must redouble our efforts to bring an end to this crisis.”

Comment by Dean in Mi | 2008-06-28 19:38:25

I do get paid by the hour $250/hr. I fill out a time card and Obama sends me a personal check every Friday. McCain pays me $150/hr for every hour I don’t blog, and Hillary used to pay me $100 either way. It’s a good living.

I’j pretty sure that no mqtter what he does, you will disapprove. But, to be fair to you, you have made this clear, so you certainly are not trying to fool anyone by pretending to be offering meaningful comments.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-06-29 15:18:48

LMAO with BOBO it’s either hide in the crowd or vote present. I ask you Ted, why go through the trouble of electing jellomen and jellowomen when we can go down to the local super market, get three boxes of jello, cook em up and after the chilling and the wiggling and the quivering begins we could place the real Jello in those same three positions using much less gas and many fewer dollars to achieve the exact same result.

A liar is a liar is a liar. Dress it up anyway you like but the man and this campaign are absolute frauds. This is 5th Avenue marketing gone berserk and the “goodie” at the end of the line isn’t simply a customer but the fate of the United States. The “product” can wiggle and worm his way through all kinds of inspection; he can accuse all manner of bigotry; he can define himself by a wanton and irresponsible press but the truth remains: he is an empty suit, a pretender to the throne. We don’t know who this man is after 18 months of campaining, and that’s deliberate.

Barack Obama may recruit defence chief Robert Gates.

n defiance of traditional party labels, Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, may ask the defence secretary of President George W Bush to stay on if he wins the White House.

After appealing for unity with former rival Hillary Clinton and her supporters and big donors last week, Obama, 46, is turning his attention to wooing Republicans and independent voters who may be concerned that he lacks the experience to be trusted with America’s defence.

Maybe Michelle said “This is the first time in my adult life that I’ve been proud of my Countrywide” and we just misunderstood?

Obama loves those lenders and creditors. He even has the failed superior bank subprimer, Penny Pritzker as his national finance chair. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Lehman are three of his top ten contributors.

He voted NO to a bill that capped credit card interest at THIRTY percent. He said he voted No because 30 was too high. Remember in that debate, when John Edwards looked at him and said, “So NO cap is better than 30%?????”

He wants to be accepted by the white old boys club. He is so clueless. He is running for president so he can be part of that club. He will never stand up to them until the press tells him to, at which point he’ll throw them overboard.

He’s phony to the core.

Aidyn, BAC $24.59 down from $52.96, WM $4.80 down from $44.04, JPM $35.05 down from $50.48, Where do you think the $$$$$$ comes from to back up F.D.I.C? Oh market capitalization, that’s right. This whole system is becoming a joke & having the U.S. gov that is 9.2+ Trillion in debt back up “private” housing is a bigger joke. Ron Paul is right, “The whole country is sub prime.”

I thought about posting it but then didn’t want the Obamatrons to have access to the phone numbers of Hillary supporters.

I guess I’m too cynical

One thing. I don’t think Obama was elected to the US Senate until 2006. He took office in January of 2007, and started running for President January of 2008. He didn’t do anything worthwhile his first year. He has no Senate experience but his ads, of course, grossly exaggerate his Senate work. I’ve heard them adding up years of service out of thin air.

According to his website Obama says he will crack down on fraudulent brokers and lenders. In the meantime, he’s on the receiving line of those he has blamed for the ongoing fallout from the mortgage crisis. IE: In Obama’s database of 1.5 million donors are approx. 130,000 power brokers that have funded nearly 60% of his campaign. Included in the list are the more than 350 campaign bundlers who have accounted for over $78 Million in contributions from the sub-prime mortgage banking and financial institutions.

I sent $100 to pay off Hillary’s debt. I also send her a letter expressing my appreciation. I just have to say that Obama scares me and will not be voting for someone I don’t believe he can take the country into the right direction. My husband is a Petty Chief Officer in the US NAVY and for the very first time he was going to vote Democrat, only if Hillary is on the ticket. We promised each other that we cannot vote for someone who doesn’t seem to care about our Troops and has not visited since 2006. Hillary is our first choice, if not on the ticket, then our votes will be going to McCain.

McCain’s got a lot of nerve pointing a finger at Obama’s Countryside contributions.

He’s probably just grumpy because he’s at the bottom of the Countryside contribution list. I suppose no politician likes to admit that they can be bought on the cheap.

People say McCain has had a lot more exprience than Barack Obama. I guess I’d have to go along with that:
