Selling Race Bait II: The “R Word” Threats
By Pat Racimora on June 28, 2008 at 4:52 PM in 1st Amendment, Obama, Race Card
Race baiting is branching out. Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of Kansas and possible Democratic VP contender, is now in on the game. She recently explained to us how Obama will be attacked:
“I don’t think anybody’s going to go directly at the race issue, but that’s going to be an underlying theme [by saying things like] he’s not qualified, he’s somebody who should scare you. He’s too liberal.” Kansas City Star.
This statement echoes Obama’s own warning that Republicans will use the race card in the form of trying to frighten people into believing he is inexperienced and scary.
Talk about trying to scare people! One trembles at the thought of being called a racist, so holding it out as a threat to supress candid, open discussion about Obama and his qualifications and actions amounts to nothing more than psychological thuggery.
However, this ruthless campaign tactic may well unravel like a cheap sweater.
A most curious thing is happening, and not only to me. The first time in my life that I was called a racist was about four months ago. I was on the sidewalk and a guy on a bicycle yelled out that “R” word as he raced by me. Why? I assume it was because I was wearing a Hillary tee-shirt. Yet this horrific slur lodged into my chest like a sharp knife. I wanted to chase him down and explain how my Mama raised me to never judge people by their skin color. I wanted to show him my family photo album—name a race, ethnicity, or religion, and we’ve got it. (That the impetus for the slur was outrageous escaped me at the time.)
The second time was on a blog regarding one of my cartoons, despite the fact that I strive to select valid issues and data. This time it stung, but didn’t feel quite so bad. The third time was a particularly nasty slam on the blog, Daily Kos. And, I just didn’t care. In fact, it made me even more determined to share my concerns about campaign issues through my drawings.
Imagine adapting to being characterized as about the worst thing anyone could ascribe to a non-Black person! I would have never thought it possible. But, I predict this will be one legacy of the 2008 campaign— The definition of “Racist” will become “Someone who expresses something that you don’t like.” We will have to think up something else to call those who actually deserve the label.
In the meantime, maybe we should start worrying a lot more about the First Amendment.

“he’s somebody who should scare you”
Both Obama and McCain scare me.
Is there any Asian third party candidate? Seems like that would be my only choice applying Obamalogic.
Obama scares me a hell of a lot more that McCain.
At least McCain loves this country.
not until he was “tortured” and even now he still finds it tough… look it up.
B.S., troll. Go away with your anti-McCain spin and distortions.
did he not say it is tough to be proud of america… did her not say that he didnt love america until he was deprived of her… YES, he said those things.
He hates America. Obama has never said these things about America.
So honest discourse escapes you?
Lordy.
did he not say it is tough to be proud of america? did he not say that he didnt love america until he was deprived of her?
YES, he said those things.
John McCain hates America.
Obama has never said these things about America.
McCains son is serving in Iraq.
That seems like a family that loves America to me.
Osama/0buma want’s to disarm America, I don’t know if it’s out of hate, or drug usage damaging his brain.
McCain will probably have a more progressive agenda than Obama. Obama will be the “Present” President.
No, actually he didn’t. Subtle distortions alter the meaning completely.
A typical slimey tactic of the totalitarian Hopioids.
You’re so pathetic, Chris. You are the reason why I will not vote for Obama. You are not welcome here. Get out in here. You troll…
http://www.nativeamericansagainstobama.com
you’re a slug. A disgusting, squirming slug. Isn’t it “funny” that the war is thriving in Afghanistan again but that BOBO has been too busy campaigning to hold/attend committee meetings relating to Afghanistan?
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who has come under fire about his readiness to be commander-in-chief, missed two of three Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearings on Afghanistan since joining the panel.
Obama has said the U.S. should have stayed focused on fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan while repeatedly criticizing his rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), and presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) for their votes in favor of a resolution backing the Iraq war.
But since joining Foreign Relations, Obama has missed three meetings on a “new strategy” in Afghanistan, a country he has never visited.
Obama was absent from a January 31 meeting this year, and also was not present for a hearing on Sept. 21, 2006. He did attend a March 8, 2007 hearing on a new Afghanistan strategy.
On Feb. 15, 2007, Obama also missed a committee hearing on U.S. ambassadors to Iraq and Afghanistan.
With this weeks attacks on Pakiston coming from Afghanistan, I can’t think of anything more telling than him dodging this responsibility. He’s too green to be president.
He is too irresponsible to be president, not to mention dishonest and arrogant.
cut the rocks smaller.
ROFLOL Pat that is a GREAT picture! You are some artist!
And you know you can tell when something is really true. When they warn you about a LIE that’s coming.
dee,dee,dee!
I never saw them warning us about swiftboaters coming to say Kerry’s service was a lie. That BS slander monster gained zero cred (with most clear thinking people)
They warned us about McCain being old. And he is. So. He doesn’t appear to be at all Reagan-like mentally (thankfully). I didn’t vote for Reagan. I didn’t vote at all that year. FLA was dripping in idol worship for RayGUN. (shaking my head) I mean he was a friendly happy guy and compared to BARKY it’s laughable! Anyway.
did I say I hate politics? lol
Dawnelle
Carlos lol dee,dee,dee
Obama to the back of the line.
LOL love that dee,dee,dee song!
Remember you can’t say fairytale either… and for God’s sake don’t mention ANY black candidate that has ran for office.
If I were John McCain I would call this sorry excuse for a nominee out and start commenting on how Obama is using race baiting to try and get people to vote for him.
Indeed. McCain should issue a pre-emptive press release straight up calling Obama and his gang of thugs out on th
“My friends, they’re going to make you scared. They’re going to threaten you with the “racist” label if you criticize him, and they’re going to play the race card any chance they get to deflect from Mr. Obama’s shortcomings, which have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he’s half black. Let us not let political correct fear mongering distract us from a healthy debate on Mr. Obama’s lack of qualifications to be the leader of the largest army and economy in the world.”
…Something like that
exactly ! mccain pre-emptive strike on obummer !
He should say, they even painted the Clintons as racist, YES the Clintons, so you know they will can anyone racist that dare criticize Obama for anything.
Some guy was using lofty words and talking gibberish last night, I told him to stop talking like Jesse Jackson and he called me a racist. The word has lost it’s meaning to me.
Brass tacks time –
I could never be proud of voting for the least qualified candidate. Period. So I won’t.
a crying people
Thought you guys might be interested in this article:

Thanks Herm. Nice article. I scrolled down to the last comment by Roberto. I think he is on to something. It would be worth a try.
I agree.
Way back in the olden days (or at least that’s how it seems now) when this campaign was just beginning, I was one of those nitwits running around in a state of euphoria at what a fine slate of candidates we had and how I could happily vote for any of them, although Hillary was my first choice.
Now I’m so strongly opposed to, and yes, frightened of, Obama that I am going to vote for the Republican candidate. It’s not the color of his skin that scares me; I noticed he was biracial back when I liked him and all I knew of him was the fairy tale he had put forth for public consumption.
When he decided to base his campaign on slandering the Clintons as racists, however, I saw him for the lying, calculating, amoral charlatan that he is. The more we learn about his ties to the Illinois Combine, the slumlords he has enabled and enriched with our tax money, and the various other crooks, thugs and thieves that he is associated with and would “help” him govern, the more it is evident what a disaster he could be as President.
I don’t care what names they call me; I will never vote for him. And it is sad that the persons who will be most harmed by his choosing to use these race-baiting tactics ad nauseum until they are no longer taken seriously are people who have really suffered discrimination but will not be believed because of Obama’s constant crying wolf on this issue.
Yeah, some people get offended when someone spreads rumors about a non-existent tape where Obama’s wife uses the term “whitey.” They also probably think it is racists when someone compares Obama winning to OJ getting off. Some people are even offended when you call Obama a “man-child,” just because it a long-term slur against African-American males by racists. Just because you choose to make up a lot of lies about a candidate that fits a race-based narrative rather than engage in substantive debate, some Obamabots will accuse you of playing the race card.
“man-child” is a “long-term slur against African American males?”
Um…. not so sure about that one, Sparky.
And actually, the sort of “pulled one over on whitey” sense of euophoria exhibited by SOME African Americans over the political and character assasination of Hillary Clinton is quite analoagous to that found by SOME African Americans when OJ got acquitted.
I mean, if we’re going to allow ridiculous parallels, let’s at least be fair.
Remember this?
But on the night of Obama’s victory [in Iowa], Jesse Jr. had this to say to the Washington Post about the inadvisability of Obama going negative against Hillary Clinton: “The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson]—how does an African-American candidate attack a white woman?”
Was that the same night he said Hillary “didn’t have tears for Katrina…. despite the fact her husband’s Katrina Relief Fund has done more for African American victims of Katrina than Barack, “I’m sort of black” Obama could dream?
Substantive debate?
stinky couldn’t honestly debate himself out of a paper bag.
stinky is a total fraud who shifts with winds of
money.
I call him an idiot am I a racist? No because you peice of garbage obambot I am black. I can call him a racist because everytime he lost the white vote he would call Whites racist. He would call whites uneducated. He would say he doesn’t need white. Well Obamabot if Hillary would have said that everytime she lost the black vote she said that. Everyone would call her racist and the black people would stay at home in droves. So Obamabot unless you know what your talking about and since you are voting for Dumbo the theif then I would assume you are as stupid as he is. Tell your candiate that Selma happened in 1965 and unless his mother gave birth to him four years before he was conceived then he has his facts confused.
You go! Great rebuttal!!!
Way to go JC! For the rest of you, what about Grover Norquist’s comments that Obama is like John Kerry with a tan. Nothing racial or racist there? I know you guys and Fox haven’t reported on it because it undercuts your whole Obama is–throwing-out-racists-accusations. Obama is a flawed candidate, as any candidate is. You can be wholly against Obama and not be a racist. A person can be very conservative and not like Obama’s positions or very liberal and not like his positions. However, it was legitimate for Obama to point out that is going to be a repub line of attack and to act like race will never be a factor is naive. the problem on this blog is most here can’t get over Hillary losing the primaries. Therefore, you fall for all sort of anti-Obama nonsense. You support McCain as better than Obama just because he beat your primary candidate. You conveniently forget that McCain smiled as a support asked him how will he beat the “b*tch.” In fact that video was on his site until recently. You forget that Hillary and Obama agree on more issues than Hillary and McCain.
Great cartoon, Pat!
I know how you feel. I am completely desensitized to being called a racist now. Seriously. When I see the race card played, I don’t have to look far to see that it is being used to dodge a question, avoid a vetting, redirect an issue not wanted to be raised, a way to change the subject, and finally, a way to threaten that NO longer works.
It’s a Cry Wolf word to me now. No longer has any meaning. A dead word used to subjugate someone–a word that no longer has any impact. This is a great disservice to the African American community. It’s just too bad that most of the community joined in on the complete Desensitization of America. I am sure that was not the intent. But it IS the result.
a person usually only FREAKS OUT when they’ve been FOUND OUT!! LOL
If you know you are NOT a racist or a liar or a cheat or what ever the slander then you pretty much ignore it.
Or I do. I want proof. RECENT proof.
I bet Barky wishes he had dumped his church a couple years earlier. Hard to say you are NOT a BLT or under the INFLUENCE of their teachings if you’ve only just quit the place.
How dumb do they think we are? (rhetorical, lol)
Sorry. Being called a racist is something we cannot ignore even– maybe especially– if we know we aren’t.
Let me tell you about how, after Dr. King’s assassination, my husband drove a truckload of supplies into the heart of Baltimore, because people couldn’t get out to get basics like formula and diapers, even food, because of the rioting. He delivered them to a church where the women were afraid to come out to the street.
But he was called a racist because he doesn’t support Obama.
Should I tell you that we were active in a fair housing council back in the early 60’s? That we supported Jesse Jackson’s campaign? That my spouse wrote the Supreme Court to thank them for the school ruling (Brown vs….). That he has an award from the NAACP for community service. That our black daughter-in -law loves us (and vice -versa) as do our grandchildren.
But we are racist because we don’t support Obama.
Sorry. We don’t support Obama because we do not find him to be qualified and don’t feel he can do the job. It makes us sad, but that’s it.
WHEN SOMEONE IS CALL A RACIST FOR NOT SUPPORTING OBAMA, ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT BEING A RACIST AGAINST HIS BLACK ASS OR WHITE ASS. I DON’T SEE HOW OBAMA HAS THE RIGHT TO BE USING THE RACE CARD. HIS BLACK FATHER IS FROM KEYNA, HIS BLACK ANCESTORS ARE IN KENYA AND HAD NOT BEEN SUBJECT TO ANY OF THE SUFFERING THAT AMERICAN BLACKS HAD TO ENDURE.
If you say any word long enough it loses it’s meaning. This schoolyard shit is getting really old. I’m in mourning today. I lost a good friend to the coolaid and he even had the nerve to send me a supposed quote from mcCain calling his wwfe a c***.
Well, I saw his c***, and raised him a teeshirt sold at bo rallies saying OJ should have finished the job with Hillary’ picture on it.
One thing about this McCain quote is, I ask you how many of us in the heat of argument hasn’t said something horrible to the other person?
The difference in this stuff is the attacks by the bo camp are calculated. Not heat of the moment stuff. NO BO ever.
Your post echoed exactly what I’ve been thinking the past few weeks since I was called a “racist a**” by someone I thought was a best friend, just because I said Obama is not qualified and democratic party members shouldn’t just blindly follow him. Every day that passes confirms this even more for me.
I think the term ‘racist’ has become far too widely used, considering people like myself are called it on absolutely no basis. Do people who say it not realise that it’s setting back racial equality by years? If every person is called a racist, it diminishes the meaning of the word. And just like the point you raised… what do we then call people who actually ARE racist?
By the way… the guy that called me a “racist a**” said to me a few months earlier “You only like Clinton because you’re white and gay” (he’s African-American). I didn’t call him out on it but I now realise I should have, especially considering his comments that followed regarding my thoughts on Obama. I’ve now come to the conclusion that my “friend’s” brain must be wired backwards!
I’m sorry for you and your friend. It happened so long ago for most of us that we are kind of immune to the accusation. When people who don’t know you call you filthy names at places like Huffington and then they ban your questions, its one thing. But when a good friend who knows you and has no reason to believe that you are a racist has to fall back on that position has to use racism to explain why you disagree with his/her choice for president, you have to feel sorry for him/her. It must be frustrating to have to defend the indefensible and then have no final answer other than the problem is you ….
Exactly! I was literally speechless. Then hurt turned to anger.
But like you say, there was no way to defend it because it was a purely idiotic argument on his part, one of the ones that you just want to laugh off in a way, but are so angry that you want to defend it somehow. I ended up just telling him how disgusted I was that he could say that just to try and win and argument, and he sort of glazed over it and still tried to carry on the Obama/Clinton argument.
In the end I told him I wasn’t interested. Oh well, *sigh*
you should have called him on it. Look White people you need to stand up for yourselves and tell black people that you are voting for whomever you would like and unless they also want to be called racist then I suggest that you shut up. Call African Americans on this. I have warned all the black people in my family and neighborhood that I do not want to hear one word about him losing because of his race. I am African American who is disquested by the number of times the race card has been played inappropriately.
It’s all part of Obama’s operating procedure.
We know he doesn’t take responsibility for ANYTHING on his own. HE is never to blame for anything.
If and when Obama loses in November, it will be because he’s a crazy ass with crazy ass anti-American and racist associations, no convictions of his own, and a resume the size of a sticky note.
But you won’t know that. We’ll have 6 months of “political analysis” talking about how “America isn’t ready for a black president.”
B*ullshit. If Colin Powell were to run he’d be elected in a land slide, because people have trust and faith in his abilities. Powell also once enjoyed the highest approval rating of any political figure in America… around 83%.
Obama is a narcissistic nutcase, and when he LOSES, it will be his OWN FAULT.
You’re right, I should’ve. I guess the way I see it, racism is the lowest of the low. And when you’re called a racist, it immediately makes you almost believe you are (especially when it comes from someone you consider so close).
I now see that he’s an idiot and had no reason to say it, but at the time, for a few days in fact, I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say to him.
I just cannot believe how divided it has all become. Obama & his supporters have played a very big part in it, while simultaneously claiming electing Obama would bring unity. Is unity really unity if you have to bully everyone into it?
I’m actually afraid to say I support Hillary to my friends, unless I know they support her too, or are 50/50. It shouldn’t be like this.
I know. It’s very clear, however, that the solution has to be to move forward. The Obamabots cannot bully us into unity. That’s not unity. They cannot control voting, no matter what. They may want to pretend he’ll skate to the White House, but obviously, from even the polls today, that’s not likely. McCain SHOULD lose, but he may not, given the issues.
It’s clear that there’s no point to silly stuff like Rendell’s HOUND. That’s ridiculous. If they aren’t willing to discuss the issues, then there isn’t any reason to talk.
That is where I am at. Let’s just move on. Obama has made it clear that he doesn’t see any legitimate issues. So there’s no reason to talk with his campaign people, either. There have to be preconditions, in other words. Just to insist upon unity is not meeting the precondition of PUMA voters that there needs to be acknowledgement of OUR issues.
I also agree about talking politics with family and friends. No point to it now. Everyone has their mind made up.
Hillaryormccain08;
I am forced into a lateral drift in an attempt to fathom what “frame” would be effective for cutting through the “number of times the race card has been played inappropriately” .
Ah shit, I’ll be blunt! I am frakkin mad as hell I have to consider for even for one second, what race someone is. I never did before and I am not about to start.
Those that make the accusation will have to own it.
Thanks for saying what you said.
Preach!
Racial self-pity WON’T help Obama in November. And many in our community will be clowning when he loses – but I don’t care anymore. I will feel bad for the few decent Obama supporters throughout the country that truly meant well and actually supported Obama because they ageed with his policies (as flawed and as weak as they are.)
But I’m looking forward to seeing the crushed, disillusioned faces of the majority of Obama’s rotten and evil supporters on November 5.
We’ll see. I look forward to seeing the sad sack faces of PUMA folks crying because the majority of Hillary supporters supported Obama and he won. You will then have to whine for 4 years and support repubs whose policies are diametrically opposite that of Hillary’s and Obama’s just to keep your hate going. I’m going to have a great time on Nov. 5th.
I totally agree. White America defend your opinions, they are valid and just.
This entire subject is unproductive, and divisive. I, an African-American, was called a RACIST by my African-American husband.
LOL LOL
What is in that Kool-Aide!!!
As Shelby Steele once stated, “No one wants to be called a racists, it’s a stigma that follows you to the grave”.
As an AA, I feel that it’s imperative that John McCain call BHO’s bluff and have a candid debate about race. However, BHO would find an excuse not to meet McCain to debate, but McCain should be persistent in calling out that fraud.
Obama behaves as if the AAs have a monopoly on being victims of racism.
As an Asian, my ancestors as well as modern day Asians have been subjected to plenty of glances askance.
I hold my head high and do not need to play the victim card to feel that I can accomplish what I put my mind to.
Obama is the most divisive candidate to hit the national scene in a long time.
In my book, he is not qualified however you look at it: record of accomplishments, knowledge of foreign and domestic policy, associations with criminals and other nefarious individuals, poor judgement – bottom line, someone who will do/say anything to win the next stage, come what may.
I’m so sick of being called “racist” that I’m at the point of making 10,000 t-shirts with a noose swinging from a tree with the caption “Obambi will hang himself … just give him enough time” .
nooooo, you have NO reason to be called racist.
oh, dont do that….then you would be charged with a “hate crime”…..see, what obama has reduced our free counrty to ?
He’s a troll, for heaven’s sakes. LOL* Just making his nasty little point.
People love Obama more than anything . I don’t know why. When I say he is like this… they say …ya we know b/s they simply talk …
He seems a rock star..
Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Pub.L. 109-058
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00213
Obama’s vote was yes to Nuclear
Clinton voted yes then no http://search.com.com/reference/Energy_Policy_Act_of_2005
McCain voted no because of the subsidies attached (pork).
The fact that the bill passed 66-29 with wide support from Democrats for the bill has not calmed this criticism (a Philadelphia Inquirer editorial on July 28, 2005, suggested Congress had a “let’s pass it and claim we did something” attitude).
I like that McCain will probably not spend like a drunken sailor or GW BUSH if he is elected! But we still MAY not have to worry about it! (I just got this in email from my local HILLARY group reminding us)
The Democratic presidential nominee has not yet been officially selected.
Remember:
1) the super-delegates can not vote until the convention,
2) Hillary suspended her campaign but has not released her delegates,
3) it takes 2,026 delegate votes to become the Democratic nominee and no candidate has that number yet,
4) if we acquiesce now, think how the DNC will treat us next time,
5) if we acquiesce, the party “bosses” will have selected the nominee, contrary to our Constitution, and
6) if Hillary delegates hold their position at the convention, her supporters will have the power to significantly impact the outcome.
Don’t waste the power of 18 million people!
————————-
they’re even getting a group to go to DENVER!
The fact that the Obama campaign flashes the term “racist” around like a “Saturday Night Special” only serves to tell me two things: a. they have no substantive issues to run on and b. they are more racist than they accuse others of being.
come on larry- show us the whitey tape you were sooo sure was out there…. you said you would release it.. release it!
Lol, you guys are REALLY hung up on this, aren’t you?
Whatsamatta? Sceered?
What part of, “Larry Johnson wasn’t the first to mention the existence of the tape” has NOT sunk into your “high information voter” brain yet?
Lol, clowns!
until it was proved a HOAX it was YOU ALL who were creating your white trash panties over its existence.
Johnson said he knew where it was.. c’mon fuckers SHOW IT!
Did you object when Obama campaigned that Hillary was hiding something in her day planner and then dropped the topic when she produced it?
No?
Then…her tax returns. Same thing.
He slammed her repeatedly. When she refuted him, he just move to another topic.
Comment by Chris | 2008-06-28 17:36:26
come on larry- show us the whitey tape you were sooo sure was out there…. you said you would release it.. release it!
Hey stewpeed chriz,
I have the “whitey tape” and it won’t be released until the time is right, now go Obambi you were unsuccessful.
Yeah, you’ve got it? lol..go smoke more crack, you may come back with a story just as good as sinclair’s!
When they ask for the tape, you know that they have had enough!
it’s like “I am going to tell mommy…”
Yeah, Larry has said repeatedly that he does not have the tape himself, and so can’t post it here. Apparently some of the Oborg can’t read.
lmao
…Kathleen dear, that’s even a S T R E T C H for Camp Obama. lol
Now if it’s “talking about issues and facts”, it’s Race Baiting instead of “attacking Obama” with reality.
OMG
NEXT.
I think some of the kool-aid might being wearing off considering Huffpo has highlighted a negative article about the annointed one.
HUGE HYPOCRITEArianna is her name!!She’s trying to regain her advertisers. The only bigger hypocrit than BO is Arianna. She’s a sleaze.
No, she pulls that from time to time to give the appearance of fair coverage.
Anyone that says anything about Obama is a racist. Even if you’re not white. That is all.
I agree with the person that said to stop the fainting. It’s creepy.
They hired fainters at Sinatra appearances in the 40s and they hire fainters for “healing” tv preachers. Same thing here.
Here’s another example of that, from HuffPo blogger John Ridley:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-ridley/when-rove-calls-obama-arr_b_109639.html
Not that I’d EVERRRR defend Karl Rove if it were not TRUE because the truth to me is more important than anything!
But Rove calling him arrogant is not like we here and at many other Hillary blogs have not been calling BAmbi Arrogant for a year!!
Rove didn’t need us to bring that to his attention cuz it’s the truth.
Sometimes the truth hurts Bambi. sniff sniff wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
it has NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE you dimwitted Obamatrons. It has EVERYTHING to do with IMMATURITY and PETULANCE
WE DO NOT WANT ANOTHER GW BUSH!!
Seriously. I could not take 4-8 years of that kind of “analysis” by social and political commentators.
“Senator X called Barack Obama’s plan for _____ “out of touch” today, a charge Obama spokesman Al Sharpton lashed out as a “racist code phrase with deep roots in slavery meant to keep blacks and other brown persons down.”
It’d almost be amusing if it wasn’t the sort of thing that passes for social commentary and academia these days.
I’ve been calling GWB arrogant for years, racist police never bothered me on that.
Funny I remember “out of touch” in bush v kerry and they’re both white.
I didn`t see incompetent on that list.
It’s downright pathetic that the Democratic Party has to come to this – be represented by a Say Anything Man (SAM) being handled by a Say Nothing Offensive Team (SNOT). Today’s Gallup poll results spell trouble for Mr. SAM. Despite his SNOT’s best efforts in packaging him as America’s salvation-in-a-Brooks-Brothers-suit, he only manages to con half of the electorate. And this number will go down further as Wright, Ayers, Rezko et. al. make a comeback of sorts.
i sent donna brazille an e-mail that she didnt like and she said she was turning me over to a “a hate monotoring group”……and this is hate ? she cant handle the truth either about her selected candidate…screw her ! same old thing, if you dont fall in line, you must be a racist !
That woman is fucking nuts
The “where is the tape Larry” comment is getting as old and unfunny as my 5 year old persistent knock knock jokes. If it’s not already any clearer (read slowly if comprehension is a problem), the release date of this hate installment from barack’s sweetie IS IN NOVEMBER. Got that?
Oh, it was supposed to be in OCTOBER before. Actually it was SUPPOSED TO BE a week from the day larry opened his idiot mouth! So, where is it? This tape is like that tom cruise movie.. just keeps getting pushed back, and pushed back…
I’ll probably be crucified for this but here goes….
I think there is a positive side to all of the race-baiting. (Insert collective gasp here.)
Consider: How many people will stand up to it from this point on? How many will hear the word “racist” directed at them, and confront their verbal attacker?
Just a point to ponder.
How many will internalize the resentment and vow that Obama does not get elected?
And how many real victims of racism will not be believed because of Obama’s incessant unwarranted accusations?
I say we put up a site and all sign in as racists afraid of BO and MO.
Then, with that settled, what will they have to accuse us of?
Go away BO and MO – you and your gang of thugs are the bigots!
I have been around for quite a long time and I can truthfully say, Obama is as much of a racist as any human being I have known in my long life. In fact, Obama seems to hate the black people as much as he hates the white. Maybe Obama is not an African Negroe after all. Could it be he is African Arabic? No one seems to have absolute proof of where he was even born. maybe he is Canadian Arabic? Everyone in America does know for certain that Obama has family in Kenya.
BHO is a liar and a crook and black. He is not a liar and a crook because he is black. I have lots of friends who are honest and black. If you can’t see the difference then you are either an idiot or don’t want to…same difference!
If You Can’t Believe Obama, how can you support him:?

Obama has a truth problem!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd4eRO-uLXY
You know what is really sad is that my husband has lost his two best friends from childhood because of this whole Obama/race-baiting crap.
They are white middle-class and pro-Obama supporters and they can talk all they want, anytime they want about Obama but if my husband tried to question them as to why or to share his views they would shut him down completely. My husband is a very intelligent man with a degree (a financial planner) but they would call my husband an idiot and the way they did it was so slimy, like he was just didn’t know what he was talking about.
These are people we spend every July 4th and New Year’s Eve with because they live on the water on Puget Sound and there’s lots of fireworks on the Sound. Well this year is the first time we’re not going because my husband has realized what assholes they are and we’re both afraid they’re going to bring up politics and then it will be a free for all fight. Don’t need that so we aren’t going.
Pretty sad.
That is really sad. I never heard of this sort of thing happening to this extent before now. For good friends to be so divided is tragic. But I have heard of other such incidents. I even heard of a marriage breaking up!
Someone mentioned earlier – and it makes perfect sense: Since Obama is half white AND half black – how will he know we’re criticizing his ‘white’ part or his ‘black’ part? Maybe if Blacks criticize him, they’ll be called ‘white racists’, or if Whites criticize him, they’ll be called ‘black racists’???
I don’t know; it’s confusing – but, in any case – he has NO reason to play the race card, esp. since he’s of BOTH worlds – and we wouldn’t be criticizing him on ‘race’ anyway – and HE KNOWS THAT! And, he ALSO KNOWS that’s how he can win – and that’s wrong, sad and SCARY.
Ditto for me. I don’t care what others think of me. I’ll listen. But if it’s just a slur or a sexist slam, I consider the source.
And the good governor’s definition of subtle racism is absurd. I’ll consider that source, too.
Hopefully, she’s not a serious contender for VP, or I’ll have to really get out and work the streets for McCain.
That type of irresponsible talk should not be in the White House.
If they’re going to play the race card at every turn for no good reason (and it looks like they are) then people need to run out the deck. Force their hands–make them run out of cards. Everyone with a blog should use one of those “code” words in a headline every day until the sheer insanity of the situation is obvious to even the most casual observer. At that point, there will have to be some serious amends made in order to salvage his candidacy or better yet, a decision to step down because he has become the divisiveness he’d been waiting for.
I’m personally waiting for a public apology from BO to Bill Clinton for tarnishing his reputation (after a life of hard work and achievement on behalf of ALL people).
Hear, hear, Sophie. Of all the dirty, rotten tricks of Obama, his campaign and his acolytes, nothing pisses me off more than their trashing of Bill Clinton. May they all rot in hell.
I just saw the video from hireheels.com on the media. I can’t wait to see it debuted on Fox News! Its fantastic. If you have not seen it yet, go to Uppity’s website at http://www.hyper-educated-uppity-woman.blogspot.com/. We need to vote for this all the way!
Thanks for the wonderful cartoon and article, Pat! Right on! Everyone should feel free to discuss the issues without name calling of any kind. Issues are issues, facts are facts and positions should be examined. It’s called being objective.
Those who resort to name calling only make themselves look bad.
Pat, one of your best works!!!
This year is first time in 50, I have been called a racist. All for objecting to BO’s blatant and over the top ,use of using race as an propaganda tool.
I was called a racist for supporting Senator Clinton.
I was called a racist for saying I was voting for McCain.
The skin color of those that called me this is not important. I have no need to defend my actions. Still, like you, my tolerance for this CRAP CANNON is changing.
I am not sure where my views will end up, but they are not headed in a positive direction. The crevasse that BO has intentionally opened up, has shit all to do with unity of any kind.
I take each person as they appear and the intent of their actions, and even if my NYC street radar kicks in, it is based on self preservation and not race.
The damage is irreversible. That is not to say this current insanity will not find an equilibrium, just not one that is healthy from a societal point.
Hella of a thing.
On this very topic, Pastor David Manning, who does not mince
words, has some advice for those who feel
“like they’re walking around on eggshells”
and who want to get on with building, “a Nation of Unity”,
to use his words.
Listen with brave ears here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_aIvfFq3BA&feature=related
Here’s some racist rhetoric… direct from the pages of No Quarter… referring to Obama:
“thug”
“gangster”
“affirmative action candidate”
“wanna be ghetto punk”
“the psychologically-damaged, conveniently mulatto, man-child, Obama”
If Hillary Clinton even bothered to look under a rock to find this site, she would be ashamed that you engage in such spiteful attacks under her name.
I agree except for thug. Thug is a word of behavior and applies across racial lines.
In the spirit of unity, I’ll grant you that, Ann. Strike “thug.”
I’ve called him a crook, thief, unqualified, inadequate and (borrowed from Michelle) pathetic. I insist that you add those words to your list. As a matter of fact, why don’t you just get a dictionary and list them all? Before John McCain gets through with that enormously satisfying to us, but terribly embarrassing and extraordinarily humiliating to Obama, ass-kicking he’s going to give The Precious One this fall, I’m sure you’ll need to make at least one accusation for every word in the English language.
Oh, and I used to call him “articulate” until I saw him try to speak without a teleprompter nearby.
Don’t miss my point. I am focusing on the technique of race baiting. Who is really racist is a different subject.
This whole campaign has been very ugly and it will get much, much worse. People say things when they are mad. They aren’t always PC.
I recently outed a freelance Republican race-baiter, by the way… on my blog. Dude pulled down his site.
But there’s no denying that GOP operatives will try to “go there” on race.
I just hope that Hillary’s most intense supporters — in their desire to see Obama fall — will welcome such Republican dirty tricks.
I meant: won’t welcome such dirty tricks.
Of course not. However, you won’t see me objecting because I saw not one of his surrogates speak up on behalf of women when Hillary was being treated badly.
So his people will need to defend him. Not me.
I might even laugh if it’s well done. I liked the Michelle ad, but it was very corny.
Nonetheless, it got the point across…in HER words.
That’s fair.
I personally agree with Huckabee that too much of this will backfire on Republicans.
They should think carefully.
Ditto for Moveon.org. The ad they did? That was a no-no given their feigned outrage at Hillary over the 3 am ad.
Barack Obama, quoted from his autobiography Dreams of My Father: A Story of Race & Inheritance:
“That’s just how white folks will do you. ”
“Any distinction between good and bad whites held negligible meaning.”
“The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson] — how does an African American candidate attack a white woman?” quote by Jesse Jackson, Jr., Obama’s National Campaign Co-Chair, to Washington Post after the Iowa caucus regarding Hillary. The statement was never denounced by Obama.
Now I know you’re just trying to stir up ill will.
What is the meaning of the Jackson Jr. quote? That Obama should try to cut Hillary’s head off?
No, PP, it was an explanation of why Obama couldn’t campaign too negatively against Clinton, because it would be perceived as a black man brutalizing a white woman.
No, you’re the one trying to stir up ill will. Accusing everyone of racism (or being an Uncle Tom) who disputes the Wonderfulness of The One is all that Obama has going for him. Thank goodness people are now seeing that those accusations are just lies, like just about everything else that comes out of his mouth. When his campaign conducted an organized attack on Bill and Hillary Clinton by lying that they were racists, he showed himself to be a vicious, amoral conman who would do anything or stoop to any level to win. And even then it didn’t work — his patrons at the DNC still had to steal it for him.
Obama is trying to have the cake and eat it too. If what he said is true (i.e. race doesn’t matter), he wouldn’t have gotten as far as he does.
“Imagine adapting to being characterized as about the worst thing anyone could ascribe to a non-Black person! I would have never thought it possible. But, I predict this will be one legacy of the 2008 campaign— The definition of “Racist” will become “Someone who expresses something that you don’t like.” We will have to think up something else to call those who actually deserve the label.
In the meantime, maybe we should start worrying a lot more about the First Amendment.”
~~
Isn’t that mind blowing? That a Presidential candidate help to destroy the impact of that word and diminished true racism at the same time.
I agree the First Amendment is in jeopardy when people don’t have the right to disagree or the right to have blogs that disagree with others. Or even when a Presidential candidate decides what topics, names, or discussions about him are appropriate.
It doesn’t matter if I agree with someone. However, I fully support their Constitutional right to speak their mind, and think the President or candidates should do the same. That is why Ari Fleischer rightfully caught so much flak for saying Americans should watch what they say thanks to 9/11.
To quote Larry Flint.
”I think the First Amendment gives me a right to be offensive,” he said. ”To live in a free society, you’ve got to pay a price, and the price is toleration.”
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DE4D71F3FF930A35751C1A961948260
I wanted to add after years on political debate boards, this quote has served me well in standing up to intolerance of all kinds, racism included.
The quote from Larry Flint is to show that even if other don’t agree with people’s views, jobs, religion, education level, gun toting ways, rural life, etc.
The important part of this democracy is honoring those differences by the act of agreeing to disagree, and never allowing others to quiet those voices. Larry Flynt’s fight on behalf of the First Amendment is an honorable one….and a fight these young people probably don’t remember and might not read the link to find out.
So, it is probably better to clarify, in the light of sooo many who are uninformed why the choice of Flynt, who most consider offensive, to make the point.
However, I don’t want anyone to think that I’m offended by the artist or any of his work, because I agree with the statement that he has been very thoughtful in his choices of subject matter to depict.

The 2008 Presidential race…The year of the disclaimer statements.
Most eloquently stated by BlueDawgDemocrat below.
Barack Obama, quoted from his autobiography Dreams of My Father: A Story of Race & Inheritance:
“That’s just how white folks will do you. ”
Is this statement considered racism?
Will someone please explain to me how any of this has anything to do with color? Aren’t these exactly the same arguments that come about every 4 years?
IMO, it’s only racist or sexist if you think a candidate that happens to be a minority or a woman can’t handle the same ole same ole.
patracimora,
Geat cartoon.
“A most curious thing is happening, and not only to me. The first time in my life that I was called a racist was about four months ago.”
Another elitist, divisive racist BO tactic.
Think about it. Where are charges of racism most likely to occur? Certainly not among the latte liberals, the rich bored white college kids, the big media universe. No, those charges will be flung at regular people going about their daily lives rubbing elbows with different ethnicities on subways, on buses, in traffic jams, in Walmarts, in supermarkets, at gas stations . . . all the places regular people frequent routinely. it is the latte liberals who will be spared such accusations as they’re never too close to those who aren’t mirror images of themselves. And yet they, along with blacks, are the ones who get to level the charges.
Obama is already top of the list of the 10 most despicable people of the 21st century and we haven’t even completed the first decade.
Yea, Pat, another great cartoon.
One thing that Ob’s campaign did is DIVIDE the races again. His campaign has not brought us together, but divided us more than what existed before he began his campaign.
Also, he was able to divide us on the Hillary side, from our base groups. Stupid NARAL PAC endorsement,
MoveON’s endorsement, both divided us again and again.
Being a member of a minority race, I am very aware of race baiting, and Ob has been the leader while pointing fingers at others and accusing them of being racists (at least Ob’s surrogates statements) but OB is guilty by not calling them on it.
Yes, his statment the other day about what you describe in your cartoon is very accurate, mention anything bad about me and you are a racist.
I hope that Rezko and Ob’s history on the low income housing projects bring him down before the August convention.
Why all the race baiting on this thread? Haven’t we had enough? Let them race bait. We’ll stil call Obama on the issues regardless.
This insanity is designed to upset you..skip it.
Don’t feed the trolls.
lou,
personally, i was responding to patracimoro’s descriptions of incidents he’s experienced during the past couple of months,
They are valid accounts of what many of us are going through and deserve to be heard, IMHO.
Every time I turn around I have to state the disclaimers: I AM NOT A RACIST! I AM NOT A BIGOT! I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN!
I just don’t care anymore;
Let the Obamanations call me what they will…
I know my heart and I know in my heart that my non-support of BHO is not in the least racist.
I wanted so badly for Barack to be a viable democrat for president, then I learned about his character, his friends, Rezko, Wright, etc. etc….
I wanted so badly for Hillary to be the Democratic party nominee, then I learned about Dean, Brazile, and the vast left wing conspiracy to coronate the empty suit, and I knew it wasn’t meant to be…
I wanted so badly to have the embarrassment of riches of having two really great candidates to choose from…
I wanted Republicans to be jealous of Democrats…
We could have been so proud of our party, the nobility of being a Liberal Democrat could have been restored…
It sickens me when I think how far this party has fallen and how far back race and gender issues have been set…
On second thought;
Let them call me what they will, I DO care…
I care about our country,
I care about our economy,
I care about our soldiers,
I care about our kids education,
I care about our homeland’s security,
I care about homeowners facing foreclosure,
I care about poverty in America,
I care about healthcare in America,
I care about women’s rights,
I care about human rights,
I care about real victims of racism,
I care about real victims of bigotry,
I care about real victims of prejudice,
I care about this country, this planet, and the issues we are facing today and tomorrow…
What I DO NOT care about is what the Obamations think of me!
If caring about these issues and who can best help to solve them makes me a racist…
I’ll wear that label proudly!!!
Not to sound like Donna Brazile or Lady Senator for Obama Blanche Lincoln, but as my mama used to tell me “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” And that’s especially true when you see the motivation behind such name calling.
But you are right when you point out the true victims of Obama’s race-baiting tactics. McCain is no prize, but he is certainly a better person than to do what Obama has done and would do to this country if President.
It just seems unreal that only a few months ago, this seemed to be the year a Democrat would be elected and would start cleaning up the mess Bush has created. Now I am going to vote for a Republican because the selected nominee of the Party Formerly Known as Democratic is more like Bush than a clone would be.
I think there are really three sure things in life: death, taxes and that the so-called Dem elites will get everything FUBAR.
I really like this message!
Excellent post!!!
Thank you for summing it up perfectly!
Another great cartoon by my favorite political cartoonist! You always get right to the point. Freedom of speech is indeed in serious jeopardy when you can’t criticize a candidate on substantive issues without being called a racist if the candidate happens to be a member of a minority race. Thanks for your courage to speak your mind on the issues. The Obamabots must not be allowed to stifle freedom of speech. Please continue to dramatize the crucial issues through your marvelous cartoons.
I personally can think of worse things to be called, and the fact that the accusation is tossed about so haphazardly dilutes its power. Some people have allowed themselves to become so sensitive about the issue that they seem to constantly be on a witch hunt, gasping prissily at anything whatsoever that can possibly be construed to have a “tinge” of racism. This is the kind of power that BO hopes to harness and use. I’ve been accused of racism by bloggers fretting about the sanctity of certain sites, co-workers about whom I’ve complained, and even a man trying unsuccessfully to pick me up on the street. People who know me well know such accusations are laughable. And, of course, the fact is that many people who truly are racist don’t care who knows it and have no shame about it.
If a racist is now defined as a person who will not vote for a candidate who is inexperienced, incompetent, elitist, arrogant and a prolific flip flopper, color me racist. I’ll wear the R with pride.
SHAME ON Kathleen Sebelius.
Perpetuating hatred and stupidity.
OUTRAGEOUS COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
many good comments here; personally, it makes my blood boil when i hear the O-nuts accusing me and anybody else who doesn’t support Obama of being racists. they need to be called on this sh*t every time, in no uncertain terms.
Thanks to Obama for the first time in my adult life I have been called a racist and proud of it.
Is it any wonder the kid called you racist? The AA radios were blasting the “racist Clinton campaign” 24/7.
Epilogue–
When the threads on my cartoons starts to wain, I like to read them all and see what falls out. There was some really good commentary here–lots for me to think about. I especially regret not including in my story that race-baiting as it is being done here harms African Americans. But several of you did a wonderful job of developing that point.
Thanks for all the positive comments. Negative comments are expected in this business, but I listen and consider everyone. Even the “trolls.”
Pat, you have become a really accomplished political cartoonist and commentator. Please continue to illustrate the crucial issues through your marvelous cartoons.
Eight years ago when I expressed my views that President Bush was an inexperienced, incompetent, elitist who would destroy this nation, I was labeled a bleeding heart liberal who spent too much time hugging trees. Now when I express a similar opinion about a current presidential candidate, I’m a card carrying KKK racist. I’m lumped with people who consider races other than their own to be inferior human beings and burn crosses in front of their homes. I’m someone to be feared, who advocates white supremacy.
From bleeding heart liberal who advocates equal rights for all races, flora and fauna to swastika idolizing in a mere eight years. My advancement is mind boggling.
When another faction manipulates the election process in 2016 with an inexperienced, incompetent candidate and I express my opinion, will I climb the ladder to sociopathic child serial killer?
I think Senator Obama is an accomplished, very intelligent man. His expertise at manipulation is a shining beacon of his intelligence. However, he doesn’t have the knowledge, experience or value system I require for the presidency.
Labeling my criteria for choosing a candidate as racist shows how far this nation has fallen in the 21st century. And will continue to fall unless we speak up now and refuse to let factions determine who will occupy the Oval Office.
Very well articulated Monet!
Sometimes I feel like I feel down a rabbit hole. Th
