The numbers from Kentucky prove he can never win…

Kentucky voters also fired a warning shot across the bow of an Obama campaign that has largely turned its sights to the fall election.

Only one-third of Clinton’s voters in the Bluegrass State said they would vote for Obama in a general election matchup against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. Almost 80 percent of Clinton’s voters said they would not be satisfied if Obama wins the Democratic nomination. A majority of voters statewide believed Obama is not honest and trustworthy, and that he does not share their values.
And these dismal numbers ARE AMONG HIS OWN PARTY MEMBERS. Barack Obama will cause a civil war in the Democrats’ ranks. Millions of voters will leave the party for the GOP.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor responds to the charge that Obama has no bipartisan record:

After eight years of partisanship and attacks, the American people are looking for a leader who will work across party lines to end the gridlock and make real progress. That’s what Senator Obama did in the Illinois State Senate when he worked to cut taxes for the poor, reform a broken welfare system, and provide health care to 150,000 children and parents.

Because everybody wants to raise taxes on the poor, further corrupt a broken welfare system, and take health care away from children–it must have been really tough to cobble together a majority on those bills. But even when there is a clear bipartisan consensus, Obama has a knack for being the odd man out.

Obama talked tough on crime earlier this week as he sided with the Supreme Court’s four conservative justices to dissent from a ruling prohibiting the execution of child rapists. You’d think he’d always been tough on child rapists, and that he would have joined any bipartisan effort to demonstrate as much. You’d be wrong:

In 1999, Barack Obama was the only member of the Illinois State Senate to vote against a bill that prohibited convicted criminal sex abusers from getting early release. The amendment to the “County Jail Good Behavior Allowance Act” provided that a person in a county jail may not receive a good behavior allowance if he is convicted of criminal sexual assault against a minor who is also a family member or if the criminal were to be convicted of criminal sexual abuse or aggravated sexual abuse.

Likewise, Barack Obama refused to support Illinois Attorney General JIm Ryan’s effort to toughen laws on pedophiles and rapists by revamping the “Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act.” The legislation, among other things, required disclosure of mental health records of a person being prosecuted as a sexually violent person. It also beefed up crimes against incarcerated sexual predators by employees of prisons. The legislation, H.B. 2008 (IL 2001) passed 47-1.

Just this week Obama refused to join 77 other senators in signing a letter affirming Israel’s right to self defense, opting instead to draft his own watered-down version that only he signed on to. Meanwhile, John McCain has worked with Democrats at every opportunity, and often much to the chagrin of the party faithful as was the case with immigration reform and campaign finance reform. Obama talks a good game, but there is nothing in his record that demonstrates an ability to reach across the aisle, let alone deliver change.
