Sexist Obama Pays His Female Staff Less Than The Males

When you spend enough time as a woman in Corporate America, it becomes very easy to pick out the guys who discriminate on the basis of sex. The closet ones are the worst. Those are the guys who talk the talk but in reality they are the worst offenders. They are the ones who know all the buzz words like Equal Opportunity, but in reality they discriminate on the basis of sex in a seemingly covert kind of way. As I said, spend enough time in that swamp and they stick out like……well……a turd in a punchbowl.

Barack Obama is one of those hypocritical turds in that Workplace Punchbowl. He Talks the Talk about Equal Pay for Equal work, but his walk is a staggering limp. This should come as no surprise to any woman with a brain, considering his own condescending behavior during the primaries, and considering his smug approval via silence of the worst public misogynous and sexest bashing of a woman by surrogates in the history of America. Barack Obama, the sexist pig, has set gender relations back at least 30 years. Frankly, I find it amazing that any self-respecting woman could forgive him.

Now we find that our observations or much worse than we thought. Comrade Obama doesn’t practice the lies he preaches in order to get votes. Let’s take a look at exactly how serious Barack Obama really is about the “Equal Pay for Equal Work” words that have been pouring out of one side of his mouth ever since he figured out he needs to get more women to vote for him if he is ever going to be King. He has been pretending everywhere he goes that he is interested in women’s issues and Equality.

In short, he’s a lying sack of crap, ladies.

Obama’s for Equal Pay,
Yet Pays Female Staffers Less Than Males
By Fred LucasCNSNews.com Staff WriterJune 30, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - While Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has vowed to make pay equity for women a top priority if elected president, an analysis of his Senate staff shows that women are outnumbered and out-paid by men.

That is in contrast to Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s Senate office, where women, for the most part, out-rank and are paid more than men.

Obama spoke in Albuquerque, N.M. last week about his commitment to the issue and his support of a Senate bill to make it easier to sue an employer for pay discrimination.

“Mr. McCain is an honorable man, we respect his service. But when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer,” Obama told the audience in New Mexico, a voter-swing state.

“It starts with equal pay. Sixty-two percent of working women in America earn half or more than of their family’s income. But women still earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2008. You’d think that Washington would be united it its determination to fight for equal pay.”

He continued, saying that he is proud to have supported the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which would extend the limit on how long an employee can wait before suing an employer for pay discrimination.

The legislation was named after Lilly Ledbetter, who was a supervisor at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s plant in Gadsden, Ala. She sued for pay discrimination before retiring after 19 years because she had made $6,500 less per year than the lowest paid male supervisor.

However, the U.S. Supreme Court threw out her case, saying she waited too long to file a complaint. The court said that under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, an employee must sue within 180 days of a decision regarding pay if alleged discrimination is involved. The bill sought to change the law, but Democrats could not muster the needed 60 votes to override a Republican filibuster.

Obama voted for the equal pay litigation bill in April. McCain was campaigning that day and did not vote. But he has expressed opposition to the legislation, fearing it would open the door to too much litigation.

On average, women working in Obama’s Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator. That’s according to data calculated from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007. Of the five people in Obama’s Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one — Obama’s administrative manager — was a woman. The average pay for the 33 men on Obama’s staff (who earned more than $23,000, the lowest annual salary paid for non-intern employees) was $59,207. The average pay for the 31 women on Obama’s staff who earned more than $23,000 per year was $48,729.91. (The average pay for all 36 male employees on Obama’s staff was $55,962; and the average pay for all 31 female employees was $48,729. The report indicated that Obama had only one paid intern during the period, who was a male.)

McCain, an Arizona senator, employed a total of 69 people during the reporting period ending in the fall of 2007, but 23 of them were interns. Of his non-intern employees, 30 were women and 16 were men. After excluding interns, the average pay for the 30 women on McCain’s staff was $59,104.51. The 16 non-intern males in McCain’s office, by comparison, were paid an average of $56,628.83.

The Obama campaign did not respond to written questions submitted on the matter Thursday by Cybercast News Service .

During his Albuquerque speech, Obama criticized McCain for supporting the Supreme Court ruling on the pay-equity issue.

“Sen. McCain thinks the Supreme Court got it right,” Obama said. “He opposed the Fair Pay Restoration Act. He suggested that the reason women don’t have equal pay isn’t discrimination on the job - it’s because they need more education and training. That’s just totally wrong.”

Obama continued, “Lilly Ledbetter’s problem was not that she was somehow unqualified or unprepared for higher-paying positions. She most certainly was and by all reports was an excellent employee. Her problem was that her employer paid her less than men doing the exact same work.”

Just as I thought. He votes the fancy vote but in real life he is nothing he pretends he is when it comes to fair treatment for women. Not that this is a surprise.

But I find it more than a little laughable that he has the audacity to criticize his opponent who actually Walks The Walk, don’t you? And if you don’t……..Why don’t you?

Do you need a telephone poll on your head to get it?

Just asking.

Equal pay for equal work. Yo9u have sho9wn average pay rates. What is missing is the job descriptions. Examples where women in the same job are paid less than men would be very valid. So far, we only have half the story. If the jobs turn out to be equivalent, Obama has a big problem.

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-06-30 20:19:06

I spent enough years in Corporate America to know that trick.

Comment by jan | 2008-06-30 20:55:37

For Eric: the trick is that a job description is just that - a piece of paper with some words on it - it is NOT what a job description says you do it is what you ACTUALLY do. The other part of the trick is you value the job and then you write the job description to reflect that pre-authorized value. So if you want to make a man’s position have the higher value you just write in the right lingo. Again the trick is in the words - oh how appropriate.

Comment by Ted | 2008-06-30 21:43:56

So, if, for the sake of argument, the same report that this piece is based on showed that HRC paid men more than women, we could then simply deduce that she too is an anti-woman sexist?

And yes, I did check, and yes, she did.

Comment by Eric | 2008-06-30 23:40:39

I love it.

After a bunch of posts claiming that Obama supporters are waging a campaign to lock anti-obama blogs, my post here is removed because I used numbers from the same article uppity woman quoted to show that Hillary is apparently a sexist as well.

You people have moved beyond self-parody.

Comment by Kristine | 2008-07-01 10:31:10

Actually, using the data from the site quoted in the article, Hillary Clinton came closest to equal pay.

FROM THE DATA:
Average annual pay for all (22) male employees earning more than $23,000 annually: $56,731.34

Average annual pay for all (43) female employees earning more than $23,000 annually: $56,050.20

Comment by Eric | 2008-07-01 11:52:35

But that’s only if you ignore the 5 non-intern female employees that made $23,000 or less. Why would you ignore them? Why would Clinton have five female non-intern employees making so little, but no male employees making that little?

By your own logic, this means that Clinton is discriminating against women.

And still, why was my original post removed?

Why are you people so terrified of facts?

Comment by Kristine | 2008-07-01 13:09:02

It’s called part-time work.
Many women prefer to work part time jobs due to family obligations and other reasons. This was explained in the article and data sets presented.

I take it you didn’t have time to read and process all that information.

3 out of the 4 people who made 100,000 or more who worked for Clinton were women.

4 out of the 5 people who made 100,000 or more who worked for Obama were men.

Comment by Eric | 2008-07-01 14:35:16

So then is it not possible that some of the women on Obama’s staff also work part-time?

Also, why is it that folks here accept an article in a publication founded by Brent Bozell without question?

Comment by Kristine | 2008-07-01 14:46:30

I’m sure there are people who work part-time for Obama.
That is why the best picture from the data is from the people making 23,000 or more.
Unfortunately, the result is Obama pays men, on average, way more than women, McCain pays women more than men, and Clinton comes close to even.

Comment by Eric | 2008-07-01 14:36:48

No. He has made many maistakes. Not ensuring that his staff is very balanced in number and salary level is a big mistake. But more important to me is his stance on the pertinent legislation. As I mentioned above, HRC made the same mistake. Her staff is also about 2 to 1 women to men. Is that reverse discrimination? Anti-Hillary people would make that case. I think it is silly.

Pop quiz: how many believe that a US Senator hirss and determines pay levels for his/her staff?

Unlike the Hillary Campaign - at least he paid his staff. Her campaign went $20 million in debt leaving many small businesses without payment and she also forced her staffers to work for no pay. I wonder what the averages look like when that is taken in to account?

If PUMA meant anything but an RNC front her debt would be clear; instead she needs Obama to raise funds for her. Just as he will also have to save the US from the Republican slime.

I guess I’m first. I can understand McCain and the litigation part. So many people today sue just to sue and aren’t really qualified or pulling their weight. However, I think someone should be able to build a case against discrimination in the workplace if there is true discrimination. It’s evident that if McCain hires women and pays them equal to or more than a male in some cases, that’s he’s looking at the qualifications of the person and not basing it on gender. To me, that’s a plus in McCain’s column. You can talk a big game like Obama does… say the right words, but if you’re not walking the talk, then what good are those words.

Okay, bots, have a field day since I’m first.

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-06-30 20:16:22

Just refer to Nobama’s father as a “deadbeat dad”. I have always stated that if any of my 3 children ever wrote a book about the dreams of their father I would want to disown them. Their father basically abandoned them also, but at least he did pay child support. Small but regular….unlike Nobama’s deadbeat dad. It is just another lie of Nobama to write about the dreams of his father. A fable, a myth, a way to write his own story so we don’t have to question his background. We all know how lazy the media is. And nothing like having a one stop shop in the form of Nobama’s book. No need to investigate or question. Just quote a portion of his book even if it conflicts with the truth. Even though Nobama himself said it isn’t all true. How convenient!

Notice Obama slobbering all over Bill Clinton saying he’s “smart” “brilliant” but the best he can say of Hillary is “she’s a great campaigner.” I keep waiting to be proved wrong, but he keeps doing it.

Today was the latest - his campaign told Time that the reason he lost popular vote in Texas was not because of Hillary’s 3a.m. ad, but because Bill Clinton campaigned in all those small towns. WTF?

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-06-30 20:26:43

Here it is:

“One top Obama strategist told me that the reason the Illinois Senator lost the popular vote in Texas was not those now-famous 3 a.m. phone call ads, but rather, the fact the Bill was working precincts on his wife’s behalf up and down the eastern and western edges of the state.”

Sexist sexist sexist campaign. And he has mostly men on his staff, very few women. Except for those lowly staffers, most of whom, in Obama’s own words, are not even of drinking age.

Really. That’s all Obama has said about Hillary, that she is a great campaigner? Why even bother to post something so easily proven wrong?

When she trounced his ass, he whined, “Sometimes I don’t know who I’m campaigning against.”

I don’t think he has allegiance to any group outside of those who will make him President. Even with those he’ll end up throwing them under with the rest. If he was just sexist that would be bad enough but he acts as if he’s the only one in the world that knows about race, about patriotism, about family values(his 60 second ad.) The truth is what he knows is so out there, take for instance belonging to Wright’s church for 20 years and socializing with him and Farrakhan and Ayers, this is the basis for his remarks on race, on patriotism he’s not a military man, he doesn’t show up to vote 130 times, and on family values as shown in the ad, his grandparents had to raise him because his mother and father abandoned him and yet we are suppose to look at these lovely people in the ad and see them as the ultimate loving caregivers. What? And where did he live, Kansas, Indonesia, Hawaii, Africa, does anyone have a factual chronological outline of his life? H e doesn’t care about women, he doesn’t care about the working class, he doesn’t care about all of the young college students, he doesn’t care about the African Americans willing to desert Clinton for him, he doesn’t care about the white intellectuals who support him because it’s their last chance to show everyone how un-racist they are. He cares about one person and one person only, himself, it’s written all over him. He can’t even fake being an everyman, that’s how ingrained his self absorption is, it’s in every cell of his body. He lies like he breathes.

Question is, ‘is he too psychologically damaged to be Commander in Chief?”

Why does he still surprise me? His supporters have no expectations that he’s committed to anything approaching progressive values. And that’s just as well.

Obama is a con man. It screams out from every speech and the look on his face.

So he’s throwing Equal Pay for Equal Work under the bus? It should have been totally expected.

I’m a fool.

Without looking at the experience and educational level and jobs done by the women and men, a comparison of average wages is meaningless.

In any lawsuit or complaint to EEOC, one must establish that the women vs. men are differentiated ONLY by their sex. If the men have higher level degrees, that that could be difference or if you’ve included a female receptionist among the group off women that would bring down the female average.

Comparing average wages tells you NADA.

OK, in that case he prefers men over women in jobs requiring more responsibility. That’s so much better.

So I guess Obama only hires women to do the clerical work then. You need a better argument…back to the mothership for instructions, sweetie.

I thought the data was pretty clear that they were NOT comparing apples to oranges.

OWN YOUR CANDIDATE. Your candidate IS Nada!

You are full of crap. There is no rationalization that can be made to defend your position. None. Nada. Zilch. Zero. There is no excuse for not having equal pay. Either he used unequal hiring practices when he set up his staff or he just pays women less. Since women now earn degrees at a higher rate than men you can’t say he couldnt’ find qualified females either. McCain seems to have no problem finding and paying women to do important work.
