“From His Heart”

Via the “Matthew 25 group, “a newly formed Political Action Committee (PAC) resolved around the Gospel values laid out in Matthew 25″ — we give you candidate Barack “Jesus” Obama:

Which church is the PAC referring to? “God damn Amerikkka,” anyone? And what about those radical, racist religious leaders he hung out with, regularly, in Chicago for over 20 years — from Father Michael Pfleger to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, both of whom are close to Minister Louis Farrakhan?

And will any evangelical buy into Obama’s all-out campaign to prove he’s a devout Christian? Especially with his strong voting record on abortion and long association with Planned Parenthood (which, it is claimed, instructed him how to vote)?

Or that he voted “present” on two Illinois senate bills on teaching “respect” in schools and on prohibiting sex shops near schools and places of worship?

From my December story, quoting a New York Times article:

Mr. Obama was also the sole present vote on a bill that easily passed the Senate that would require teaching respect for others in schools. He also voted present on a measure to prohibit sex-related shops from opening near schools or places of worship. It passed the Senate.

In both of those cases, his campaign said, he was trying to avoid mandates on local authorities.

In “Barack Obama Radio Spot Hits Christian Radio,” CBN Network’s Brody File column reports that the PAC is running this radio ad on James Dobson’s home turf in Colorado Springs, Colorado (!).

Now playing on Christian radio: Barack Obama!

The Brody File has learned that the Matthew 25 Network which is a religious political action committee supporting Obama has put together a radio ad in which Obama’s faith is highlighted. And get this….they are airing it on Christian radio in Colorado Springs, the home to James Dobson and Focus on the Family.

Part of their release, sent to The Brody File, is below:

The Matthew 25 Network today launched an initial radio ad campaign to reach Christian voters with Obama’s positive message of how faith informs his life and enhances dialogue in the public square.

The ad entitled “From his Heart,” comes on the heels of Senator Obama’s historic speech earlier today about the instrumental role faith communities play in caring for the “least of these” in our society and the importance of public partnerships with faith-based programs that have proven track records.

The Matthew 25 Network ad will first run in Colorado Springs, CO, home of James Dobson who garnered much media attention last week for attacking Senator Obama’s faith. The group will run run ads in Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, and other swing states.

Here is the script version of the radio ad:

Narrator: You know it’s an election year when certain people start grabbing headlines by attacking the faith of Presidential candidates. With all these stones being cast at Senator Obama, it can be hard to know what to believe. But in Luke, Jesus taught us that we must listen to what a man says because “out of the overflow of his heart, his mouth speaks.” So here are words from Senator Obama’s heart:

Obama: “I think we make a mistake when we fail to acknowledge the power of faith in people’s lives” “kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt that I heard God’s spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth.”

Narrator: Paid for by Matthew 25 Network, Matthew 25.org is not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee. Matthew 25 Network is responsible for the content of this ad because we think it’s time for a better Christian witness in politics.

Dr. Richard Land, Chairman of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Association, was a guest on Just In with Laura Ingraham, her new Fox News show that airs weekdays at 5 p.m. ET.

Dr. Land pointed out that, no matter how much Obama pounds on the point that he’s a good Christian, his pro-abortion stand will be a certain deal breaker for evangelicals.

:::::::::

There’s something else that bothers me. Obama, by hammering on his insistence that he is a Christian, is also insulting Muslims. As I wrote recently:

To be clear: We at No Quarter have no concerns about Barack Obama having had a Muslim background; given the circumstances of his childhood, living with a stepfather in Indonesia who was Muslim as well as having relatives in Africa who are Muslim, it is simply a part of his background, and probably a plus to be exposed to the faith, although he was for the most part rather young to assess it.

Our issue is with Obama’s failure to be frank about his life history and — worst of all — his appearance of running from any past associations with Muslims, as if being evasive would protect him from voter concerns in an age of the Internet and 24/7 news. Instead — by insisting repeatedly that he is solely a “committed Christian” and has “never been a Muslim” — Obama may be insulting Muslims worldwide who are surely puzzled why he hides this past. Further, his obfuscations lose him credibility among voters who seek honesty and forthrightness in their presidential candidates.

Obama seems unable to grasp what most mature people understand: That hiding the simple truth damages one’s reputation far more than the fact that is being hidden.

We get it, Barack. We do. You’re desperate to kill the rampant rumors that you were or are a Muslim, or ever had any associations with any Muslims. But, the saying, “He doth protest too much,” applies here.

But this is going to backfire, I predict, because Obama’s positions on abortion and his astonishing voting record in the Illinois senate are going to come out, and NO devout Christian will vote for him.

If he ever got to be president he isn’t going to be hanging out with you. It would be all fancy clothes, fancy dinners and rich white men.

caligirl — Obama is one sad character — He had no childhood and needs to be part of everything in life even if he has to make it up up. The poor guy needs love but God forbid you don’t love him he will destroy you. He runs after White Rightwing Christians but disses Moveon.Org who raised all that money for him, Liberals, Women, Seniors and Boomers. He has no interest in selling himself to the to the Democrats anymore because he thinks they will come home to him because where else can they go. In the end he will stab in the back everyone who voted for him or believed in him. Obama and his wife are haters pure and simple and he wants this job so he can pay back everyone imaginary or real who ever hurt him. He is sick and sad–but that is no reason we should feel guilty and give him the job of potus.

Another one taking the name of the Lord Thy God in vain.
Using religion in politics may be an old tactic but it still is wrong. No matter which party uses it.
I do not know what Oama believes. I do not think he knows what he believes.
The so called Christian church that teaches hate against other men created by God is just sick. If he believes that brand of christianity it does not say much for him.
If he believes in jihad and radical islam then that does not say much for him either.

helen, agreed. If I had not other reason to not voe for Obama, the fact he sat in Wright’s church for 20 years listening to the hate, racist and anti American remarks for 20 years alone would make me not vote for him. It would be bad enough listening to someone talk like this anywhere-but in the house of God?? you can’t say you love God and then act the opposite of what God stands for. It doesn’t work that way.

Jesus taught us that we must listen to what a man says because “out of the overflow of his heart, his mouth speaks.”

We’ve listened to what Obama says and watched him do just the opposite, so maybe I’ll pass on this.

This pandering to evangelicals is ridiculous, pathetic, and laughable. The difference between Obama and a Republican blurs each day.

Comment by Christine | 2008-07-01 19:57:59

Jesus also said sin is not found in what a man puts in his mouth but what may come out of it.

The only people he called mentors were the ones who hated this country. Change You Can Believe In — you bet. There will be change alright but its going to be hard to believe that Americans aided in their own downfall.

Comment by DoroB | 2008-07-01 21:23:09

Obama is not a Republican either.

I have no idea what he is. Right now I think he is trying to look less like a Democrat and more like a Republican to ingratiate himself with Republicans.

Of course all his minions are making up excuses for him like never before.

He stands for power-his own.

I would be interested to know if Obama believes “The Apostles’ Creed.” (If you don’t know, Google it)
Evangelical Christians know what they believe. They spend more time studying what they believe than just about anybody.
Bible Study is not a rhetorical term.
If Obama claims to walk it and talk it, he better know his stuff.
Otherwise, he’ll lose them instantly.

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-07-02 07:37:09

Zeke- thank you! for pointing this out. I have yet to hear Obama articulate one article of faith. Can he even dialog on Salvation, Justification, Redemption, Grace, etc…? (I sure can, ‘cuz the nuns beated it into me LOL) I have only heard him quote the verses used by liberation theologists to support their marxist ideology. He is pandering to the WRONG group. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Relgious Right ends up exposing Obama for the empty suit that he is? He can’t handle calls for his BIRTH certificate, what he going to do when evangelicals call for his
BAPTISMAL certificate?????

af — Now we are going to need to state our Religion to get a job. If the employer doesn’t like that Religion he has a right to fire you. My parents went through at in the 30s–it was cruel and kept people from getting jobs. But Obama would like to bring that all back. Could it be that the AA’s will now decide which White Workers are allowed to work. Obama would be so bad for this country. He makes McCain look like choir boy.

Comment by believe | 2008-07-01 21:28:49

That’s absurd. Obama explicitly said that he opposes hiring or firing based on religion.

And this part is really odd:

Could it be that the AA’s will now decide which White Workers are allowed to work.

Comment by Zimeeisme | 2008-07-01 21:36:28

This AP story says different about hiring/firing based on religion.

http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/12699

Did the AP get it wrong? Would Obama have a stipulation against that?

Comment by believe | 2008-07-01 21:47:42

Yes, AP got it wrong. First Read talked about that error a few hours ago.

Comment by Zimeeisme | 2008-07-01 21:55:27

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-07-01 21:40:42

Glenn Greenwald says our tax dollars will fund organizations that discriminate one’s faith when hiring firing.

It’s true that Obama’s program would prohibit the use of religion for hiring purposes with regard to programs funded by the Government — the topic of prior controversies — but it would allow religious entities that receive federal funding to use religion as a factor in hiring practices with regard to non-government-funded programs.

I’m really surprised BO showed his cards so soon…when he isn’t even the nominee yet! He must have thought he had to play his cards now because he’s lost so much support. He has to move to the center/Right earlier than he had planned to to see if he could make up for the lost Hillary/Democratic votes before the Convention. When he loses the Kos/MSNBO/HUFFPOST shills, he has problems. HUGE PROBLEMS!

Does he REALLY believe the Evangelicals will make up for all the Democrats/Progressives/Liberals he has thrown under the bus? There is a big difference between compromising to get something done and compromising your political beliefs for your own power. Obama panders for political power. He throws you under the bus, but because you are so desperate, clueless, or in denial, you get back on that bus and keep making excuses for him.

And you miss the point:
Nothing the Clintons do will make Obama less of a hypocrite and coward, got that?

And nothing McCain does will ever get these delusional lunatics to vote against him, believe. Between the racists and the tantrum-throwers, there’s not a single No Quarter fan left who can acknowledge reality. But it’s still fun to come here and watch the freakshow.

There’s a big difference between Bill Clinton and Obama. Bill Clinton actually had a record of doing good work. Obama has none so he has to resort to pandering and massive flip-flops FISA-style. So no amount of comparing Obama to Bill Clinton can make Obama less of an untrustworthy, pandering flip-flop.

And why are you straying from campaign talking point? Didn’t Obama use to think that Bill Clinton was not a good president?

Bill Clinton was a moderate. Obama is a phony.

Ah, what’s Obama’s platform? Um, it changes every minute, it is fluid like a river. Against FISA, for FISA. Against Faith based initiatives, for it. Against NAFTA, for it. And gun control, whoa, so many changes it makes my head spin, honestly I cannot keep track. Here’s Obama’s platform, it’s, promoting Obama!
Hillary or McCain ‘08!

Hillary and Bill — please don’t try to sell this fraud to us. Do you think we haven’t done our homework? Do you think we haven’t seen Obama shed his skin more times then a Boa Constrictor? There is nothing to this man but anger and greed.
