Someone discovered this via Michelle Malkin’s site. She posted the photo on June 25th in “‘Obama or die!’: Who’s obsessing about Pooh Bear’s race?”
Agree with Ms. Malkin’s politics or not, she makes a point here:
It was an Obama lovefest at the Black Entertainment Television awards last night. Puff Daddy/P Diddy/whatever chanted “Obama or die” and urged his peers to elect the “first black president.” Alicia Keys, last heard spreading conspiracy theories about the government killing Tupac and Biggie and creating gangsta rap to perpetuate black genocide, yelled “Obama, y’all!”
It was one big race-based ad for Obama.
UPDATE: Someone e-mailed me and tells me the following:
I take it by now you have probably recieved many emails regarding the Sean Combs pic of him wearing a Obama or Die t-shirt. If not I think you should know that the pic is indeed a phoney. He wore no such t-shirt on stage at the 2008 BET Awards. You can check on wireimage.com to see exactly what all the celebrities wore on stage that night and when Combs presented Alicia Keys with her award he indeed had on a black and white suit. The fake photo thats going around is actually from a 2004 event where he did indeed wear a Vote or Die t-shirt. Its the same exact pose- background and sunglasses. As a matter of fact here is a video of what he wore at the BET Awards- maybe you should update you post on noquarter.

I honestly never realized ‘had to be dragged’ was racist. As the mother of a toddler, I have always thought ‘had to be dragged kicking and screaming’ referred to what I’ve had to do to my tantrumming (is that a word?) child on several occasions.
I don’t think “had to be dragged” is necessarily racist, however, if you read the whole quote in context, its disturbing on the level of the discussion with which it was originally brought up. The “dragee” I believe was Lewis and his eventual support of Obama. It is still disturbing in the context that “had to be dragged” implies he didn’t go willingly, ie he was bullied.
If this is true, it is so sad form Rep. Lewis. He has been a power in the Civil Rights movement for many years and he is a good person. His association with the Clinton’s goes back to before Bill Clinton was president and it must have been difficult for him to change his endorsement. He was with MLK on the march from Selma to Montgomery. It’s a new day, I guess and not a very pretty one.

I have read many of your comments here, but I have never responded because I believe your sole purpose is to create controversy. A large percentage of them contain the word, “racist” and, at times, I am reminded of Charles Manson and his helter skelter plan to incite race wars.
Mr. Johnson and his blog have consistently supported Hillary Clinton as do a majority of the people who post comments here. Her history and that of her husband of dedication to the Civil Rights movement was never questioned and proof of that is the loyalty of 80% of African American voters.
The accusations leveled at them came from the Obama campaign’s need to unite the AA voters behind him. Memo’s were released to the press to that effect before the South Carolina primary.
Her supporters, all Democrats who believe in equal rights and have voted for politicians who reflect that view, have been labeled racist in a cynical attempt to ostracize them from the New Coalition of Democrats with a specific demographic outlined by Donna Brazil and others.
I have no way of judging the “content of your character” other than by your own words and I see in them a nasty, calculated disrespect and something more. Your frequent use of the word on this blog in any context seems to be detached and almost without emotion. You have a problem which you need to address. We know 90% of the African Americans who voted in the primaries voted for him, but what percentage of available black voters did he get?
Obviously it wasn’t as many as we’ve been led to believe since they’ve launched a huge registration drive targeted at precisely those voters.
Seems to me, if his support in the black community was so dominant, he wouldn’t need to go out and twist arms to get people registered.
Who’s to say that those who weren’t motivated to vote for him on their own will be any more motivated because he “reached out?”

That is a very interesting question rjj and I have the answer. Reps from all the major news outlets gather information from surveys taking as voters exit the polling places. They are given a piece of paper with questions and after answering, put their paper in a box. The box is then taken to the location of the reps and the answers recorded. Those responses are averaged with public polling done the day before the election. There are some large unknowns, for example, undecided voters in the regular polls and the media reps have to extrapolate based on a number of factors. The history of the precinct, the way the undecideds have fallen in previous elections and turnout. There may even be some deliberate miscalculation. These polls are then discussed ad nauseum by the pundits and they do their own interpretation of the significance. They are wrong so much of the time, but viewers accept them as fact and that is the problem. They are essentially worthless.
This primary cost half a billion dollars. With that much money involved and with CorpsMedia-Energy-Defense syndicates heavily invested, it does not seem likely we will get trustworthy decipherments of exit polls.

The simple fact (that far too many people fail to understand) is that SMALL BUSINESSES of all shapes and sizes (regardless of who owns them) HAVE to sell at “inflated” prices simply to make a profit. I worked at a convenience store years ago, and I’m more than aware of how much the store paid for its wares versus how much we had to sell them for. ALL c-stores operate on very narrow profit margins, and a c-store is little different from a “mom-and-pop” store. Major chain stores buy and sell IN LARGE VOLUME which allows them to buy at an overall lower price per item (even, in some cases, to have major “loss leaders”, such as soft drinks, designed to help lure in even more shoppers). The smaller stores, however, can’t do this. They don’t have the power to demand a big price break: If your store can only sell 100 loaves of bread per day, you’re not going to stock 250 loaves per day, even if your distributor offers you 250 loaves for the price you’d regularly pay for 100; eventually, you’ll be stuck with a lot of bread that you’re not going to be able to sell at a reasonable profit. On the other hand, a store chain like Wal-Mart or Kroger’s, with hundreds of stores, can afford to take advantage of deals like that on a regular basis; if one store is not in need of the item in question, there’s likely to be dozens of stores that are.
But, I’d also point out that those Asian- and Latino-owned stores aren’t likely to be charging different prices JUST because the customers are of a different ethnicity.

Bill, you may have an interest in anthropology, but you need to take some Modern American History classes. Many of those you are insulting were active in promoting Civil Rights in this country. We became Democrats precisely because we agreed with the platform protecting the rights of minorities, affirmative action, support for Miranda, Title 9 and funding for scholarships for African Americans.
I would like to caution you on your arrogance. You have not yet taken over the world. I urge you to read “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau. It should help you understand the concept of the power of using the right to vote as a valid form of protest. When the government or political party no longer represents the best interest of the people, citizens have an obligation to work to change the system.
The Democratic Party has shown itself to be corrupt and the presumptive nominee is not worthy or qualified to be president. His willingness to change position on the fundamental principles of the Constitution, ie FISA and faith based initiatives, and his lack of principle in changing his position on public funding illustrate the compromises he is willing to make for political expediency.
His campaign’s willingness to use racially divisive tactics is nothing less than immoral. Unjustified charges of racism against those who have demonstrated a commitment to the right of others is destructive and dangerous.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I decide to vote for John McCain it will be because I have come to the conclusion there is no other way to make my voice heard. Personally, it is my belief both political parties need to be brought to their knees. One is no different than the other in terms of focus on power. For those who cannot or will not see Obama as a means to an end for leaders in the Party without nobility and who have refused the mandate of the people who elected them, I will say you are not as intelligent as you would like to believe.
It is my sincere belief only anarchy in the Convention can change a system that is killing this country. The smoke filled rooms of Sam Rayburn and Lyndon Johnson are no less despicable than a no smoking room at the Marriot Hotel. Threats of political payback along with threats of riots have compromised the party as never before.
I have no doubt Nancy Pelosi was elected speaker because of her ability to raise money and fund the campaigns of others she then owned. Only recently it has become obvious why a limp, malleable man like Harry Reid was elected as Senate Majority leader when there were better, more senior, more capable people available.

You became a democrat to protect the right of minorities, etc.? Republicans have done more for individual rights than democrats. Conservatives by focusing on the right of the individual as oppossed to democrats focusing on collective rights have been historically more progressive. Here are landmark Supreme Court cases:
Boumediene v. Bush granting habeas corpus rights to non-uniformed enemy combatants captured on the field of battle (superior to any rights they would have under the Geneva Conventions) was written for the majority by a Republican, Anthony Kennedy, appointed by Ronald Reagan.
Kennedy was also the author for the majority in Romer v. Evans, invalidating laws denying gays the right to bring local discrimination claims and in Lawrence v. Texas, invalidating criminal prohibitions against private sexual acts between consenting gay adults.
Planned Parenthood v. Casey re-affirming the Roe v. Wade decision recognizing the right to abortion was written by Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman on the SUpreme Court and another appointee of Ronald Reagan. Justice Kennedy joined O’Connor d in the majority opinion.
Roe v. Wade itself was authored for the majority by another Republican, Harry Blackmun, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon.
Brown v. Board of Education, which struck down laws allowing racial segregation was written by another Republican, Earl Warren, an Eisenhower appointee.
Warren also wrote the opinions in Gideon v. Wainwright, which held that the Sixth Amendment required that indigent non-capital criminal defendants receive publicly-funded counsel, and Miranda v. Arizona, which required that certain rights of a person being interrogated while in police custody be clearly explained, including the right to an attorney.
Eisenhower sent the national guard out to protect young black children entering public schools after the Brown decision. It was a democrat, George Wallace, who ten years later was still trying to bar blacks from entering the University of Alabama.

First thank you for the very reasonable post.
Let me first start with the question of racism. If you are a true democrat who beleives in equal rights for all my post was not directed at you. I does not take long to scan this thread or site to see whom my comments would apply.
Second, I was not suggesting anyone or group had taken over the world. I was comparing those who would use the politics of race or fear and wedge issues to the dinosaurs. A group who has failed to adapt to the enviornment and will become extinct as a result.
I don’t think Obama is some perfect being or politician, they don’t exist. In this very thread I was critical of his position on FISA, Faith Based Office and the fact that he didn’t call on congress to delay their 4th of July break to complete the home forclosure bill. (ignoring the fact that a republican blocked the original version)
My observation is that there are three main groups here.
1. Real democrats who are frustrated with the outcome of the primarys.
2. Real deomcrats who are deomcrats in name only but really do have an issue with race.
3. Republicans who pretend to be democrats and push the buttons of the first 2 groups knowing thir anger and or racism will allow them to fall for anything.
This thread is a perfect example. You have people running Obama’s BC through scanning software but people fell for a obvious photoshop image when it fit their world view of Obama, even if false. Where else would Michell Malkin be posted as a reliable source on a democratic blog?
Everyone has a right to vote as they choose that’s not the question. I was speaking to the motivations and sadly many here are motivated by hate and racisim and that’s sad. You don’t sound like part of that group, you sound like a member of group 1.
Bottom line, Obama won the objective of the primaries, to win the most delegates. Even if you assign the delegates from MI and FL in the most favoriable fashion for Sen. Clinton possible he won, so I move forward, not fighting decided outcomes.
McCain does nothing to advance the causes you or I have supported and does not deserve my support.
We can agree to disagree on how one should vote or even why they should vote that way, my biggest issue is the code racisim I see here and how sad and dissapoiting that observatio makes me.
