There is a big pile of poop in the room; The issue of a military draft. Many people are afraid of a draft; with good reason. I believe many of us are against the war, but I also believe there is a huge silent fear of the draft -driving support for specific campaigns as well. This has much to do with the need to believe a candidates plan to leave Iraq/Afghanistan.
No one speaks to this fear. For some reason people have convinced themselves, that the same soldiers who are on their 4th, 5th, and 6th rotation into the Middle East will be the ones continuing until it is over. It will be impossible for them to do so. Our military is gutted and exhausted and wounded; enlistments are at an all time low. To be clear, I don't want a draft. Yet this issue does need to be addressed at this point in time with the candidates, in the open, on live television and interviews. This is what I have found so far.

Senator McCain on the Draft.. June 25, 2008
Many Americans are fearful the U.S. government will be forced to reinstitute the draft given the prolonged Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Asked about that possibility by a potential voter in Florida during a telephone "town hall meeting," McCain said: "I don't know what would make a draft happen unless we were in an all-out World War III." ...McCain, a Vietnam veteran, said the draft during that conflict weighed most heavily on lower-income Americans, and that this should not be repeated.

Obama’s Call to Service
Filed under: General News — Claudia, Assistant Editor on July 3, 2008 @ 12:23 am CEST
Obama gave a speech in Colorado Springs today stressing the theme of national service.
He renewed a call frequent in his campaign; that serving the country is not something to be done by a few but by everyone, and a call for everyone to serve within their capacity. Service would be accomplished through the military, but also through the PeaceCorp and AmeriCorps or other forms of volunteerism.

Uh Laura....you need to read about Zbig then.

He is one of Obama's advisors and is the man who trained, armed, and funded the mujahedeen. Which is the Taliban and bin Laden.

Did you ever wonder why Mika of MSNBC was so unobjective? Zbig is her dad.

They know nothing about The One....LOL

This was my response to a fund raising letter I received from the Obama campaign. I know it's long but I hope (that dreaded word) you find it informative.

Senator Obama:

I hope you get to read this letter instead of your minions just tossing it in the trash.

There are several reasons I will not be sending you a contribution as you requested. I’m going to start with telling you a true story. My father is and always was a very humble man. All he wanted was to do an honest days work teaching young people and making enough money to support his family at a time when teachers were not respected or paid a lot of money. When I was four years old we moved to a new neighborhood. My parents found what they believed was the right house of worship for our family. One day my father heard something from the pulpit that offended him to the very core of his being. We never went back. It took some time but eventually they found a loving place where we were all welcome and felt at home. I can’t understand how you stayed a member of your particular Church for almost 20 years after hearing the venomous preaching of your Reverend unless the only reason you joined was to give you some credibility in the black community whose experiences you did not share and that you had nothing in common with other than the color of your skin and not to find comfort and solace in the teachings of Jesus. Even if you weren’t in the pews on the particular day(s) of these rants I can’t believe you had no inkling of the views of your Reverend and if you did know his views how could you have exposed your children to hate? I believe the Catholic Church has a saying something along the lines of “give me a child until he is seven and he is mine.” I am not Catholic but there is definitely a certain truth to that sentiment. What we learn at a very early age shapes us for the rest of our lives. If you would prefer a more secular version of that thought watch the movie South Pacific in which there is a song that tells us that we “have to be taught to hate”. There are several other people you chose to closely align yourself with in Chicago who also make we question your judgment.

In an interview in 2004 you were asked if you were going to run for president or complete your first term in office. You said you would not run because you did not have the experience necessary to be president. What changed your mind? What makes you think you now have the experience? The Senate was in session for less than 150 days before you announced your candidacy. If the average work month has 20 days that means you had your job for less than 8 months before you decided you were qualified to take on one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Don’t you think that is just a tiny bit presumptuous? During Senator Clinton’s first term she was asked the same question. She also said she would serve out her term. Do you know what she then did? She kept her word. She did complete her first term as promised.

Your campaign was the first to bring race into the picture this primary season. Early in the campaign Mrs. Obama stated that as a black man you could be shot going to the gas station, if that’s not bring race into the picture I don’t know what is. I also remember the political pundits pondering if “you were black enough” whatever that means. If you are the post-racial candidate you claim to be why did your campaign bring race into the picture? Just because someone mentions that fact that you are an African American man does not make them racist. They are just stating the obvious just as it is obvious that Senator Clinton is a white woman and that everyone else running for President this year is a white man. You were quoted in 2004 stating that you got to where you were in politics because you are a black man. Therefore, claiming that Geraldine Ferraro is racist is wrong. All she did was state what many believe to be true, if a woman or a white man with your extremely thin national resume announced they were running for president they would probably have been laughed off the stage. You are fortunate to be running in a time when the nation is indeed moving towards being a more accepting society, or trying to assuage “white guilt” which is something that I don’t understand since I never owned a slave, my relatives never owned slaves (they came to this country legally at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century). That is not the way to bring this country together.

Claiming that former President Clinton and Senator Clinton are racists after your campaign brought up race in the first place is reprehensible. I believe it came out at a debate that Tim Russert moderated that your campaign had a four page memo from the very beginning as to how to make the fact that you are African American work for you. That is not the way to bring this country together.

Walking onto the stage at an event to a song whose lyrics espouse that “I got 99 problems but the bitch ain’t one” is not the way to bring the country together.

I was certainly taken aback when Mrs. Obama was asked if she would support Senator Clinton if she were the nominee and the response was she would have to look at Senator Clinton’s “tone” when you expected Senator Clinton’s support if you were the nominee. This certainly is not the way to bring this country together.

Stating that you could get Senator Clinton’s voters but you weren’t sure if she could get yours in the condescending manner that you did is not the way to bring this country together.

I was also astounded when Mrs. Obama said she wanted to “scratch out” Former President Clinton’s eyes. This is troubling on so many levels. That a public figure, and yes she became one as soon as you became an elected official and she put herself out in the role of spokesperson, would advocate violence against anyone is wrong. It is even worse that this was directed at a former US President. This is definitely not the way to bring this country together.

I also found it very troubling that you did not find it necessary to reign in some of your supporters who would show up at your events wearing shirts that said “Bros before Hos.” These little gems are also available for purchase on the internet. We can’t forget that charming nutcracker that is also available for purchase. These are certainly not items I would not want to have to explain to my two daughters. By not making an effort to let your supporters know that you found it unacceptable to treat a former First Lady and a sitting US Senator to that kind of hate you gave them, and the media license to spew hate in the most misogynistic form that I have seen in all my years of voting. That is not the way to bring this country together. I have seen the video of you apparently “flipping the bird” to use the common parlance at Senator Clinton and smirking while your supporters laughed. That is certainly not the behavior I would expect of someone who has gotten out of elementary school let alone someone running for President of the United States. That is not the way to bring this country together.

Your supporters threatened to riot in the streets of Denver as was done in Chicago in 1968 if you were not selected as the nominee and you said nothing. This is not the way to bring this country together.

Accepting delegates that you did not earn in Michigan and then not being satisfied with that you accepted 4 delegates that were earned by Senator Clinton is not the way to bring this country together. I can’t believe that even you think that all those who voted “Uncommitted” in Michigan were voting for you when there were three other candidates who also chose to remove their names from the ballot. That is not the way to bring this country together.

Advertising in Florida against the agreement you signed as part of a national ad buy and basically saying “oops, I had to advertise in Florida” is not the way to bring this country together.

Telling your supporters not to give money to any campaign but yours is not the way to bring this country together.

Not challenging Donna Brazile when she in effect told the core of the Democratic Party (older voters, blue-collar workers and women) that you could win without us and we should stay home is not the way to bring this country together.

Moving the DNC to Chicago before you are the nominee (please remember that no one is the official nominee of the party until there is a vote at the convention in August) is not the way to bring this country together.

Trust in our elected officials is critical for the health and well being of the country. I have to admit that I am not surprised that you chose to go back on your word regarding public financing for the General Election campaign. It is however extremely disappointing. If this is the kind of change you represent I really don’t want any part of it. I have been a loyal democrat for over 30 years. I have always voted for the Democratic candidate even when they weren’t my first choice because of loyalty to the party. I have seriously considered changing my registration to Independent. The only reason I have not is that I still want to have some control over the outcome of primaries. After what this primary season has done to the Democratic Party I no longer consider myself a dyed in the wool Democrat any more. This year I can honestly say I don’t know who I am voting for. My state (New Jersey) does allow write in votes and does report them accordingly (I checked with my County Clerk’s office) so I have options other than to vote for only those whose names are listed on the ballot. At this point my state is not considered a toss up but that could change, as we all know 4 ½ months is an eternity in politics.

I have some very serious soul searching to do before I cast my vote November 4th.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Your stance on the war doesn't matter - Hillary showed good manners, while Obama acted like the petulant child we have come to know.

And your probelm is?

Geez...Hamas endorsed Obama...lol

Hamas even wrote an op-ed in his church bulletin.

So, what is the complaint?

He only threw them under the bus when the press started asking questions. Along with an advisor and an ageist insult for McCain when called on it.

Yup...every dollar that goes to Blackwater, is a theft from the military, in my opinion.

Obama clearly loves the privatization schemes to loot the treasury and weaken America.

Now with his faith based programs they can direct which area received those funds. I has always wondered how he was going to help certain people at the expense of others in the middle class. The faith based program answered that question.

They are like computer virus that had one purpose, simple but like a plight, try to shut everything down and infect everything they touch. Never any need to expend their capability. Did you see them ever anwser anything with details other than copy from the code book?

Some people can't think for themself, and need Obama to think for them. It's no wonder they support Obama.

I am glad that they had Mccain running. I hate republican in general, but have no problem vote for Mccain. I don't believe in party lable, skin label or religious label. Unlike these Obama supporters, I weight the person themself.

Elizabeth Edwards has her own health care to think about, she supported Hillary. So what are you saying? Obama is now thinking of changing his care to be more like Hillary's health care, but Hey Obama said his health care was much better that Hillary's.
