Comment by Factcheck2 | 2008-07-08 20:34:43

The one caviat here is that the mainstream media is promoting exactly this line – that the reason for Clinton’s defeat has to do with sexism. It’s apparent they’re trying to program the public to accept this amorphous, unresolvable type of rationale and thus forget the central fact: the DNC allowed superdelegates to “vote” 3 months early after it chopped up Clinton’s delegate haul in Michigan and Florida on the excuse that those states voted 1-2 weeks early. This is how she “lost” and Barack was declared the nominee. It is pure hocus pocus. That’s why you don’t hear any conversation about Florida/Michigan and superdelegates on TV anymore. Big Brother is smart, and the only way to defeat him is to remind people everyday about the undemocratic coup d’etat that took place. It’s also up to us to redirect the public’s attention back to the crime scene – DNC Headquarters.

Comment by Sam | 2008-07-08 21:56:53

True, but I believe a big part of the reason superdelegates went to Obama was sexism. The sexism and hatred spewing from the media, combined with the narrative that the superdelegates could not take this away from the first black man (nevermind the first woman) made superdelegates feel like they had to back Obama.

Comment by lorelynn | 2008-07-08 23:13:17

No, the big reason they went to Obama was his fundraising list. He told people that if they supported him, they’d have access to the list. If they didn’t, they’d have a primary opponent who would.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-07-09 01:28:52

lorelynn — you got it threats and bribes. And we end up with a nominee so unpopular he could take the rest of the Democratic ticket down with him. Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean decided from the get go they wanted Obama and pulled out all the stops to get him the nomination. Now the irony is that the Dems could lose the House and it will cost Nancy Pelosi her power. Tis an ill wind that doesn’t blow someone some good.

Comment by mummy smurf | 2008-07-09 06:00:45

Like the threats that it must be Hillary or you will all go off to support McCain.

What a surprise the main “PUMA” donated to McWar in 2000 and now encourages angry Hillary voters to support McWar. Great move by a Rethug troll.

Comment by norrismorris | 2008-07-09 13:02:33

Unquestionably this is a very important part of the power Obama had with the Supers, but don’t omit the fear the party elders had of selecting Hillary over the first black candidate. Black caucus threatened reprisals
of all kinds at the voting districts and in the party and without.

A coup with two powerful aspects. Money and voting bloc. Without the black vote the Democratic Party would suffer defeat, and the caucus made the most of this.

Hillary remains their threat, so anything goes regarding damaging her legacy in every way possible.

But the coup was totally executed by moving the DNC to Chicago to be ruled over by the Chicago political machine, and removing any DC power away from the party.

A sad and sorry story.

Obama has not done anything really to help Hillary. His supporters have raised only 100,000, which is embarassing.

He’s been rude to her fundraisers, too.

There is no unity pony. PUMA is on track. Just Say No Deal is on track.

Obama screwed this up too badly to fix. The Democratic Party is dead.

The Crap The Media Is Trying To Spin For Their Golden Boy Darlin Obama

I just finished reading a blog for the Flint Michigan Newspaper that really angered me. Why won’t people really listen to what we PUMAS are saying? It isn’t that we are crying because the Democratic Party Cheated Hillary Clinton (dubbed by the media that she lost). It is because Obama is a flat out Ass. He lies and tries to spin his way to glory.

Tick Tick Tick for Obama you know the Rep’s are waiting to pounce it will not be long. You can even tell Sean Hannity is holding something back.

Comment by democracyfirst | 2008-07-08 20:38:59

Hannity and Buchanan are on now. They are saying how frustrated they are because the Republicans aren’t doing anything to after Obama. Unless they are better actors than I think, they really are frustrated. I’m not so sure the Republicans are going to come through. What a time for them to get sheepish.

Comment by stateofdisbelief | 2008-07-08 21:08:26

it’s all part of the facade. Feign frustration to keep the muddled masses off the trail, so that…when you least expect it…expect it.

Comment by nancysabet | 2008-07-08 22:07:56

the long term impact of an Obama presidency will be the end of “progressive” politics as we know it for the forseeable future — Obama presents himself as a “progressive”, when in fact he has no ideological foundation whatsoever — and is likely to “govern” from the center (and define the ‘center’ as progressive). Real progressive politics will be relegated to the ‘fringe’, because Obama will be presented/perceived as being as far ‘left’ as ‘reasonable’ people can be.

IMHO, Obama lacks the basic competence to govern effectively — and the character to govern appropriately. I think Obama represents a far more ‘dangerous’ president than McCain, because Obama (like Bush) is all about his own ego — and this is especially dangerous in terms of foreign policy. Obama’s willingness to ‘throw people under the bus’ who don’t worship suggests that he will engender just as much hostility toward the US as Bush does…. and Obama is even more likely than McCain to start a war with Iran if Iran acts “unreasonably” — ie, doesn’t act like Obama thinks it should act.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-07-09 01:43:07

beachnan–Nancy Pelosi wanted Obama because she didn’t want to have to deal with an activist agenda and a President who was calling the shots. She thought she could control the agenda with Obama. Super Tuesday was supposed to do it for him and then it would be UNITY forever as we all rallied round our beloved nominee. But as time went on and Obama became more and more unpopular Nancy and Howard Dean pushed all the harder. Until finally Nancy Pelosi threatened to halt the nomination process unless Hillary removed herself from the race. The irony of all this is that Obama is only getting the support of 54% of the Democrats and it appears that the down ticket Democrats will be badly hurt by this. When Nancy wanted an empty suit for an easy life she never thought it could cost her power.

And let me add something — no offense, but this issue, to my mind, overrides anything else.

People who are going to sit home on 11/4 puzzle me. This is no longer about universal vs. private healthcare, or how soon we leave Iraq, liberal vs. conservative, progressive vs. neocon. It’s much more fundamental as to who we all are as Americans.

This POS must be thumped and thumped hard in November for even daring to use totalitarian tactics to try and win. This campaign has been so utterly UNAMERICAN it sickens me. A vote for McCain is a vote for a guy whom you can criticize for the next 4 years — that’s as American as it gets.

If anyone here still has doubts about voting for McCain, I offer this as demonstration of what REAL unity looks like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLo-kSct6zE

While these two have differed on issues, and if !A! picure can speak a 1000 words, this is what adversaries who respect and admire one another, but who are none the less are fellow americans treat and feel about one another.

Take care to note the genuine(vs. Obama plasticity)fondness and joy of one others’ company that is apparent in their eyes. Eyes as they say are the mirror of one’s soul. The look in Obama’s eyes make the hair on the back of neck rise.

For the first time in my life(see NQ article directly below this one)I am in true fear that tyrannny in our country is at hand.

My own humble opinion the key to ending the divisiveness and partinship and actually addressing the critical issues that face us, is a McCain/Hillary ticket. Far fetchted I know, but a man can dream.

Comment by osbama | 2008-07-08 20:47:10

The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.

Only 2% of that 9% say Congress is doing an excellent job, and they were probably all members of Congress or their families.

This approval rating has given new meaning to the term “Congressional Record”. Pelosi and Reed, with the sweeping changes they have brought to improve everything from the price of oil to, umm, to… OK, this is embarrassing, I can’t think of anything they’ve done. Someone help me here… seriously. What have they accomplished since taking control?

Looks like the last change we voted for didn’t work out so well.

Comment by Hope | 2008-07-08 22:23:34

As an Obama supporter and a fan of Hillary’s, I actually thought this was a pretty emotional video. But as for the actual examples of sexism:

- The “Iron My Shirt” guy: some local radio shock jock just being a jackass to get publicity for himself.

- Chris Matthews’ comments: yes, reprehensible and disgusting

- Obama saying ‘periodically’: give me a break. Not to get too icky and technical about this, but if he were referring to Hillary’s menstrual cycle, it wouldn’t even make sense as the vast majority of women of her age have already experienced menopause.

- Olbermann’s “One Man Leaves” comment: Bizarre, but clearly a misstatement. Given that Olbermann defended Hillary and Bill often early in the campaign (and quit his previous job years ago over coverage of the Lewinsky nonsense), something tells me that he wasn’t actually talking about _killing_ Hillary. I’m guessing that the secret service didn’t take it that way.

Comment by candymarl | 2008-07-08 21:21:32

If that’s true, I mean his defense of Hillary and Bill, why say it at all? The man was practically frothing at the mouth.

What about the comments about b*tches and wh*res? Those were accidental too? Now that Hillary has suspended her campaign and is stumping for Obama I don’t hear those comments anymore in the MSM. At least not not about Hillary.

Now her supporters are hysterical women going through the stages of grief. No sexism there, no siree.

I watched a panel of men, on national TV, have a serious discussion on why women deserved to be called b*tches. Stunning. There was not a peep of protest from so-called liberals and progressives that supported Obama.

I know what Olbermann meant. If two people go into a room and only one comes out what happened to the other person? There must be a reason they can’t leave. You don’t need a degree to figure it out. It ain’t rocket science.

I showed the “Periodically, when she’s feeling down… she tends to lash out” clip to 25 different people at work. Without prompting, all but two of these people said that Obama was making a comment about PMS.

Find the youtube video and try it with your friends and co-workers and see what they think.

Steven Mather-

I’ll share something interesting with you.

At my own graduation ceremonies at Harvard, the PhD and MD candidates received standing ovations while the JDs and MBAs got booed. Goes to show just how much respect Harvard law (&B) graduates get from their fellow men/women.

So I won’t go tossing Harvard Law around like it’s the pinnacle of wisdom and success.

The “Iron My Shirt” guy: some local radio shock jock just being a jackass to get publicity for himself.

NOT!
This was Seattle and it was very dangerous there.
Streets lined with vicious code pinkers and kids on the edge of violence. When Hillary campaign cars pulled in front of the venue there was near mayhem.
The kids videod it and were saying the b word and everything as Hillary rode by. This was not a shock jock but an extension of what was going on all around the building. Then when she went to Tacoma WA they had to barracde the I_-5 bridge and tell people there was an accident so that Seattle kids couldn’t get across to storm her rally in Tacoma. There were weather underground followers getting ready to storm the Tacoma rally.
I notified the police the night before. They were guarding the entrance to the Tacoma rally and the smaller group of code pinkers who got there before the bridge block were out there insulting the older women rally goers. It was scary. It was in Feb 2008.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-07-09 02:11:20

Gee Bob Smith — Nice to have you dissect misogyny. The fact is that the media and the DNC allowed comments like this because they wanted to demean women. In order to build up a loser you have to make the winner into something vile. But when the DNC said nothing this became an attack on all women and this is what we will not forgive. You don’t have to tell us what misogyny is–we know it when we see it.

Oh, and I forgot–all of the Glenn Close Fatal Attraction comparisons?

The other video, shows a series of Male commentators saying crap like, “Hillary reminds you of your first wife sitting across the table during divorce negotians” or “Hillary sounding like your mother (or wife) nagging you…”

Randi Rhodes calling Hillary an “effing” WH***”.

By voting Obama into office you will create a situation in which the center right will become the new left, and today’s left will become the far left, and today’s progressive agenda will be permanently moved off the table. He may be better than McCain, but voting McCain into office will not permanently eliminate progressivism from the political spectrum. On the contrary, it will re-invigorate it. Long term view or short term view? The short term view is myopic indeed. And it is exactly what they want to see happen. You will reward blatant lying on the part of your leader with undying loyalty. You want to reward blatant manipulation on the part of your leader with blind following. You want to prove them right – in more ways than one. They know you. They know how to manipulate you and make you grateful for the pitiful crumbs they leave for you. This year the only way for progressives to win – is to lose.

Senator Hillary Clinton would make the best President in my lifetime. Mr. Empty Suit would make the worst President in my lifetime. Yes, even worse than W. There have been only two people running for President who have been called empty suits. W and Mr. Empty Suit.

yeah, we saw all the sexism that went on and we wont forget it. on aol, i saw hillary being brought out in a body bag…….it was either david knowles or tommy chrisopher’s blog. it was vile and disgusting. they acted like a pack of wolves devouring a raw piece of meat whenever they referred to hillary. and they dont think we remember ? what they forget, is some people kept alot of that “evidence”………puma

I think Hillary doesn’t know just how badly she and many woman bloggers were actually treated, nor the public many who don’t use the computer much. But just those few ‘reminder clips’ in this video is disturbing. The MSM won’t show much of that because the clip is too obsene for ‘public viewing on the TV.’

But if a brave reporter did show something like that soon on TV more of Obama’s supporters would jump off his bus. I guarantee it!

Comment by NOBama in August | 2008-07-09 05:23:23

yes, I have noticed the same thing as you. People just are not aware of what has really been happening in the blogosphere and even aware of Obama’s history. We need more people who have the skills and talents for making videos or speaking in public/on air need to make these things known to the public.

So many people already have done such a great job, but we need to press the issue further.

Steve Mather,
My thoughts exactly. I could not understand why the republicans weren’t hitting Obama with a new weekly attack that would make it a none stop barrage. But, now I understand that they are standing on the sidelines watching him implode.

Nice post SusanUnPC !! The video is great; but it angers me a lot…

BTW, I just read this from riverdaughter (Diane is Diane M. from Just say no Deal)

Diane tells me that our fundraiser last weekend helped Hillary reduce her debt by roughly half. One more push like that and Hillary can stop being Obama’s indentured servant on the campaign trail. I say we go for it! It must be giving Donna Brazile fits and the only thing that makes me happier is getting on Donna’s Diss List.

This is great news !!

Re-watch and see where he says ‘when she’s tired’ thats when she launches an attack..

a demeaning statement and women understand the dig.

That video kicks in my PTS from my experiences with domestic violence. very upsetting.

I am a 58-year-old male Democratic loyalist and this video has re-triggered my heart’s memory of, and abject anger at, all of the trash attacks endured by Senator Clinton. I have thought about this for a month since the force-out occurred at the DNC RBC meeting and, even though I am a 40-year+ Democratic loyalist and cash contributor, I WILL skip the top line on the ballot in November if Senator Obama is the eventual nominee. I will NOT vote for McCain, however, and I will continue my yellow-dog support down-ticket. And not a dime from here-on to any of the major national Democratic organizations. I don’t know those people any more.

My anger is so deep now, and NQ has given expression to it, that I will be saving my Democratic contributions for websites like this, so that Susan and Larry and team (and all of the other PUMA sites) can try to rally enough Democratic superdelegates to stop this blasphemy against the party.

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-07-09 06:43:27

Kudos to you! Ditto for me on cash contributions. I think Just Say No Deal deserves some support. They are doing a great job. Ditto for some blogs that are professional and aggressive on the issues. I think I’m convinced that some down-ticket people deserve contributions. I’ve contributed to Hillary’s debt deal, too, although I’m not as worried as many of the articles I read. She’s got 40 million in GE funds that can be redirected to pay off the debt. The way he’s handling or mishandling the unity attempts suggest to me, anyway, that many of those funds may well not be redirected to him but back to her.

Even if that doesn’t happen, I still think one great country tour where Bill talks about the campaign lessons would be fascinating for the public and pay off the debt plus more. I’m frankly hoping for that.

I’m convinced that Bill will do nothing to help Obama. Democratic party loyalty be damned. The common guy/gal in the party can see how the Clintons were trashed by the party. Fuck em’.

Let Obama recreate the party from scratch with his urban black youth. Let’s watch and see if they remember to show up on off-cycle years.

Comment by LB | 2008-07-09 12:25:04

We feel the same way. Frankly, I’m still a bit stunned at all I saw, read, and heard during the primary. For the first time in my political life, I’m disconnected, emotionally, from the Democratic Party. I just don’t know them anymore.

Some of the problem for me came from the amount of time I spent among the Obamaists at Daily Kos. Those people were vicious and every day, I would find myself asking, “are these people really Democrats?” In all my years, I don’t remember Democrats lashing into another national Democrat this way — at least not since Johnson in ‘68.

So, I’m having a major disconnect from them, posting here for the first time today after reading this site for several months, and making my first post-Hillary contribution — to this site. I need a voice badly right now and Susan and Larry (and Team) are the ones providing it for me. And, I now so regret past contributions to Daily Kos and Josh Marshall’s site. Never again.

Thank you for sharing a great video…there were many attacks that are not even on this video. Obama has a pile of dobermans that show up at all speeches made by McCain now.(the new Hillary)

I guess he chewed up Hillary , now his dogs amd the MSM are chewing on McCain.

Every time I remember that NARAL endorsed Obama instead of Hillary I need to take a few deep breaths.

Can somebody make a list and/or video of the women, men, newspapers, magazines, and anyone else who wrote or spoke anti-Clinton articles or remarks (especially the worst ones). I think if we have something to refer back to it will help to keep alive what we witnessed this primary season. It will help us with our goal to at least make the democratic superdelegates, the DNC and Pelosi et al pay for this fraud of an election. I like to reference back and I find the videos are most helpful in refreshing my recall of this despicable time in our history.

Wear a yellow rose to honor our right to vote as women, (which we have had for less than 100 years –Women’s right to vote amended to the U.S. Constitution 1920) and in protest of any and all party officials who maintain, we don’t matter!

A Historical reminder.

_______
Nashville, Tennessee: August 18, 1920
In the hot and muggy month of August 1920, a national drama brought its final and perhaps most spectacular act to Nashville. A year before on June 4, 1919, the U.S. Congress had voted to append thirty-nine words to the Constitution. Simple, straightforward words, but for all their brevity, they packed a punch. Nearly everyone who read them, or even heard about them, felt provoked to take a stand. Those thirty-nine words comprised the Nineteenth Amendment which, if ratified by thirty-six states, would give women the right to vote.

By August 1920, when the issue was to come before the Tennessee State Legislature, the amendment was one state shy of ratification. Thirty-five states had passed it. Despite the mere sliver of a margin that blocked ratification, the Suffragists and their supporters knew victory was not inevitable. Indeed, the Anti-Suffragists had good reason to hope that if Tennessee failed to pass the Nineteenth Amendment, the “Perfect Thirty-Six” would never be realized and the law would die. What ensued was a “war of the roses,” with its primary battle waged in Nashville during an oppressively hot August.

The town teemed with reporters from New York, Chicago, Washington, and Boston. Celebrities such as the national suffrage leader, Carrie Chapman Catt, traveled to Nashville to help spearhead the drive for ratification. She joined forces with one of the prominent Tennessee leaders, Anne Dallas Dudley, in organizing a strenuous female advocacy. Tennessee women from rural and urban backgrounds, different social classes, and different races worked together in writing letters, making speeches, and canvassing legislators. Despite their diversity, they were united under a single symbol: the yellow rose. Yellow roses, in fact, were in vogue in Nashville that summer. But so were red roses–the flower of choice for the Anti-Suffragists. Even the legislators “showed their colors” by wearing roses on their lapels.

Counting the number of red roses worn by the representatives, the Suffragists knew they were in trouble for the pending vote on August 18. By the roses, it appeared the amendment would be defeated 47 for and 49 against. In the first roll call, however, Rep. Banks Turner came over to the Suffragist’s side and the vote was deadlocked at 48 for and 48 against. The second roll was taken and the vote remained 48 to 48.

With wilted collars and frayed nerves, the legislators squared off for the third roll call. A blatant red rose on his breast, Harry Burn–the youngest member of the legislature–suddenly broke the deadlock. Despite his red rose, he voted in favor of the bill and the house erupted into pandemonium. With his “yea,” Burn had delivered universal suffrage to all American women. The outraged opponents to the bill began chasing Representative Burn around the room. In order to escape the angry mob, Burn climbed out one of the third-floor windows of the Capitol. Making his way along a ledge, he was able to save himself by hiding in the Capitol attic.

When tempers had cooled, Burn was asked to explain the red rose on his lapel and his “yellow-rose” vote. He responded that while it was true he was wearing a red rose, what people couldn’t see was that his breast pocket contained a telegram from his mother in East Tennessee. She urged him to do the right thing and vote in favor of the amendment. Governor A. H. Roberts signed the bill on August 24, 1920 and two days later, the Nineteenth Amendment became national law. One hundred and forty-four years after the Declaration of Independence, American women had earned the constitutional right to vote–thanks in large part to a woman named Febb Ensminger Burn and her son, Harry.

Here is something each of those men need to read and understand. It is a little something passed down from my parents.

” Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because
G-d counts her tears.
The woman came out of a man’s rib. Not from his feet to be walked on.
Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal.
Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved.”
