Obama: I Can’t Speak French. So How Come You Can’t Speak French?

Comrade Barack Obama once again shows how little of his comfort zone is in America. He recently chided Americans who do not speak other languages. He snickered at them and said that when they go to Europe the only thing they can say in French is “Merci beaucoup“.
It’s…It’s…embarrassing when.. when …uh… [sic] Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and [snicker] all we can say is Merci beaucoup.
What an insulting Asshat™ this guy is. Worse yet, to use an American expression: He should talk! He struggled with the language of a country he was living in and he has the Audacity and Arrogance™ to snort at others in America for being unable to speak other languages while simply visiting other countries.
Obama has claimed on numerous occasions to have become fluent in Indonesian in six months. Yet those who knew him disputed that during recent interviews.
Israella Pareira Darmawan, Obama’s 1st-grade teacher, said she attempted to help him learn the Indonesian language by going over pronunciation and vowel sounds. He struggled greatly with the foreign language, she said, and with his studies as a result.
As far as I can see, Comrade Obama is only capable of saying one phrase in other languages: Yes We Can. Even with that one line, his Spanish was atrocious, so I would like to know how it is that he thinks he can continually make fun of the country he wants to be President of and get away with it? Comrade, who were you referring to? Those “bitter hicks” with guns who work from sun-up to sun-down to provide you with your Whole Foods selection? Are you referring to those “downscale” voters who are too busy to learn other languages because they are working two jobs just to make ends meet–while they serve arrogant snotty asses like you?
Comrade, did it ever occur to Arrogant Asshat You that you insulted Hispanic Americans in this country who are struggling with our most difficult language that has an exception to nearly every grammar rule? Of course not! You are far too arrogant and self-impressed for that!
Speaking of languages of countries you visit without speaking their language: I also understand that Barack Obama plans on holding fundraisers in China. I am not surprised, considering he seems to be the darling of Socialists, Communists, Marxists, Maoists, Theocracies and lovers of Lenin and Stalin the World Over. The thing is, many Americans live in China. This is because China has stolen so many of our jobs. I would think that as a so-called Democrat, Obama would be more concerned with bringing these folks and their jobs back to America, but true to what he is, he is more concerned with getting their money.
I also understand that the Comrade has a half brother in China, named Mark. His father sure did get around, having left kids everywhere, it seems. This must be where he inherited his “respect” for women. Perhaps his brother will be helping him raise funds and set him up to talk to some Government Leaders there to get tips on how to run America. More importantly, I was wondering if Obama plans to pay a visit to China, and if so, will he be speaking Chinese?
Come to think of it, the only relative he has in the USA where he wants to Reign Supreme is his Typical White Grandmother, and he tossed her under the bus months ago. While Barack Obama enjoys pretending to be as great and as American as JFK, I can tell you for certain that when the truly great JFK was President, you could find all of his family in Hyannisport very easily on any given weekend. Nobody was hidden and JFK was proud to pubilicly speak of them and name them. Why is it, Barack Obama never speaks of the relatives he has all over the world? Why is it we have to go hunting for them? When he visits them in their respective countries, does he speak their language or does he speak English? This seems to be a fair question, don’t you think?
If Barack Obama thinks everyone else in America who doesn’t speak the language when he or she visits another country is worth snickering at, then should he not be able to speak the language of every place he has visited? For example, I know that Barack Obama has visited one of his favorite places where some of his biggest fundraisers are citizens: Pakistan. I was wondering, does Barack Obama speak their language?
Barack Obama has a stick up his ass and the most amusing part of that is he has no right to have a stick up his ass. He is a mediocre man with minimal achievements, the greatest of them is his great success at working the Chicago Thug Political Machine and sticking his nose in the air, pretending he is above everybody and everything.
He is so without substance of his own, that he spends most of his time pretending he is the equal to great men such as RFK, JFK, MLK, FDR and Lincoln. Yet, he parades himself as Above The Rest – ad nauseum.
I wonder exactly how many more Americans he insulted by laughing at America again–this time for speaking only one language: The language of the country in which he is running for President.
While this Out of Touch Snot is busy telling everyone in America to go learn another language, Somebody also needs to explain to Comrade Obama that, in spite of his attitude that the country he wants to become Czar of is inferior to the places he really loves–such as the Middle East, English is the preferred language of business communication World-Wide.
While it certainly does open doors for people to learn other languages, Comrade Obama might be more helpful to the USA if he chastises many of his own young followers for their own communication problems with the English language. In fact, back when I could stand to listen to him, I heard The Comrade Himself butcher the use of verbs with respect to singular and plural. So, comrade, try telling your worshippers to focus on their own language first before shipping them off to butcher another country’s language. Thanks!
Having spent a fair amount of my life in Academia before moving to the Real World, I get the sense that Obama needs to permanently assign himself to the Faculty Lounge instead of running for President of The United States. His arrogance and snottiness with respect to the Real World is simply staggering. He is so snotty, he can’t even help himself. Insults just roll right off his tongue.
Comrade, we are truly sorry that so many Stupid Americans just don’t speak French and German. We all know that you are classy and we are not.

Just for the record, there is NO such thing as a “Kenyan language”. Kenya’s official language is Swahili (or, more properly, Kiswahili) but English is also widely used.
Wikipedia indicates that there are 62 languages used in the country (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Kenya ).
Just so you know, Obamabutt, ENGLISH is the international language, as any pilot in the world will tell you. And before you go off to other lands, first you should master the English language, before foreigners put you to shame in your own native tongue. [Well, we are assuming it is your native tongue; depends however on what country you were actually born in.]
Other than as an intellectual exercise, why would an American need to learn another language?

I have installed it in the course of my work and it would be really great to have a copy. I want to learn Pashto and Arabic….at least well enough to understand what is being said next to me on the GG to JFK or read a website. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has signaled unease over the prospect of a possible speech by Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama at Berlin’s historic Brandenburg Gate, a spokesman said Wednesday.
Merkel has “only limited understanding for using the Brandenburg Gate as an election campaign backdrop, as it were, and has expressed skepticism about pursuing such plans,” Thomas Steg, a spokesman for the chancellor, told reporters.
However, Steg stressed that the chancellor is “very happy” for Obama to visit Germany and meet her and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Berlin city officials said this week that members of the Democratic candidate’s campaign had contacted them about what permission and security issues would need to be resolved before Obama could speak in front of the monument.
The Obama campaign has refused to provide specifics on his plans during an upcoming visit to Europe and the Middle East, including the candidate’s interest in a possible event at the Brandenburg Gate.
“Senator Obama looks forward to his visit to Germany and his opportunity to meet with the chancellor,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said. “He has considered several sites for a possible speech, and he will choose one that makes most sense for him and his German hosts.”
The gate stood for 28 years behind the Berlin Wall in communist East Germany’s heavily fortified border zone. Probably the capital’s best-known monument, it was once a symbol of Germany’s Cold War division and now stands for its reunification.
Steg noted that the Brandenburg Gate has become “a place with a particular exclusivity, intensity and symbolism” in view of past speeches by sitting U.S. presidents and events such as a large rally in solidarity with the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
As a result, he said Merkel has voiced “great skepticism as to whether it is appropriate to bring an election campaign being fought not in Germany but in the United States to the Brandenburg Gate.”
Steg said that “no German (chancellor) candidate would think of using (Washington’s) National Mall or Red Square in Moscow for rallies, because it would be considered inappropriate.”
He stressed that giving permission to use the venue is a matter not for Merkel’s government, but for Berlin city authorities. Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit said Tuesday that he would be “delighted” for Obama to appear at the Brandenburg Gate or elsewhere.
In a famous 1987 speech that used the gate as a backdrop, President Reagan urged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to “open this gate” and “tear down this wall.”
In 1994, four years after German reunification, President Clinton spoke on the other, formerly eastern, side of the gate – declaring that “Berlin is free.”
Organizers of Obama’s campaign have said he is planning two foreign trips this summer, including stops in the Middle East and major European capitals, in an effort to boost his foreign policy credentials as he prepares for the November election against Republican John McCain.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Jens Ploetner said there had been contacts with the German Embassy in Washington regarding Obama’s trip. He said that, while German officials suggested that he could visit landmarks such as Berlin’s Holocaust Memorial, the Cold War-era Checkpoint Charlie border crossing and the Brandenburg Gate, they had made no recommendations on any venue for a possible Obama speech.
I think it’s fine provided Obama speaks in German, as would be appropriate.

As for me, I personally speak a smattering of Spanish, French and Italian and I learned it as a courtesy when I was traveling in those countries. I learned a very basic amount of Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) but it was difficult. Still as a courtesy, when I’m in another country I attempt to make an attempt. It shows respect. I suspect Obama would never learn to show respect. He thinks he’s the one that deserves all respect.

For one thing, the syntax of English is a hodge podge of many languages. This is why it is easier for a person who speaks French to learn Italian. The romance languages have some sense of similarity. But English took its syntax from many languages.
I happen to think that learning a second language should be a choice, and I especially think it’s not a presidential candidate’s place to be snickering over those who don’t know a second language…especially considering he hasn’t seemed to mention knowing any of these languages himself.

I took French for a couple years and never learned “okie dokie,” “hoodwinked,” or “bamboozled.” I wonder if there is a French version of the Urban Dictionary?

English is the international language used in business and diplomacy. Even the EU uses English much to the chagrin of the French.
Outside the English speaking world, English language classes are almost universally mandatory. It is important if you are not a native English speaker to have instruction in English because it is the primary global language.
Inside the English speaking countries, the roles are reversed. We already speak the primary global language. So which language do we choose to be our secondary or even tertiary language?
When I was in school, Russian was important, then later Japanese and now it is Chinese. Of course, Spanish is the timeless constant.
For the native English speaker, the secondary language learned is based upon what will be the greatest benefit in a career, the exact same rational why non-English speakers have mandatory English instruction. It just happens to be that French does not rate up there anymore as a universal language.
In online chat where there has been many participants from various European countries, I noticed this tendency to ridicule mostly among the Dutch and French. They would say if I can speak your English language, why can’t you speak mine? I would answer, the choice for your second language is dictated by needing to know the primary global language. I already speak the primary global language, so I have an array of choices for my second language, and it isn’t Dutch or French.
The Germans and Italians I conversed with were not as high minded. We used each other constructively. For me it was to refine my German and English. For them it was them to refine their English. If mistakes were made, we did not ridicule each other.

I lived in Amsterdam for many years. My response to that criticism was, “If Dutch were the language of Rock-n-roll, it would have been my 2nd language and not my 5th!”.

It’s a myth that most Europeans speak English. Most speak English about as well as Americans spout of in their high school Spanish.
Europe is a densely populated continent comprised of many countries, not just Germany, Sweden, and Britain. (Has he noticed the suspiciously large number of British who speak English? How do they do it? Yet, how many Americans speak British, Senator Obama? Quel scandale!)
Yes, many well-educated Europeans speak English. And, the not-so-well-educated who don’t work in tourist traps? Not so much.

The British speak English? I thought we were two peoples divided by a common language.
I found myself in Italy once confronted by another tourist asking for directions. He spoke what sounded like a Slavic language. He couldn’t speak Italian or English. We finally found common ground in German.
I do find that those in other countries, and I have travelled extensively in business through Asia and Europe into some of the worst hell holes I have ever been in, that the business person that needs to speak English, even infrequently, does so with acceptable competence. But just as anywhere else, if you do not need to speak the second language you learned, it is quickly lost. I encountered many in those countries, although they were forced to learn English, their vocabulary was limited to the mere utterance of OK (the most commonly understood expression in the world), yes and no. Constructing a simple sentence was a lost art.
Germans don’t want to be involved in the election anymore than the Canadians. They are all insulted and on the defense.

Here’s the thing. I worked in Japan for 4 years, one of which I was hired by the Ministry of Education to visit various schools in Japan and teach the kids English with a Japanese English teacher. It was done at all grade levels, and must have cost the government hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Was it effective? IMO, no. We were nothing more than a live ’show and tell’ for these students.
I speak 4 languages and know that it takes a LOT of time and money to pursue. BO doesn’t have a clue as to how one acquires a foreign language. It’s not like we learn French in high school and then we are fluent. Why? Because there’s no one to converse with or to practice it. Study abroad? yeah, about $10,000 later, you might be able to carry a simple conversation. The one thing to remember is that Europeans travel to and fro within Europe like we do in the states. They have to know more than one language. It’s built into their educational system from an earlier stage than ours. Right now, our states don’t even have enough in their budget for desks and basic needs like books. So pardon my French BO, but you don’t know shit.
So true. My funniest story was that I took Spanish in high school. As a young adult, I worked as a migrant farm laborer. The families would get letters and couldn’t read them, so they asked me to read the letters to them. I could read the letters but couldn’t understand them because I really never was fluent.
So it was great. They got their privacy. I’d read, and they would laugh and gasp, and I never had a clue as to why. *haha

He plays on identity politics.

I saw the video of his everybody learn Spanish gig. He is so bad, he can’t put two sentences together fluently in English. Go, learn your language first. Where does he get off trying to lecture everybody? And these are standard elite ideas that he spews off.

Well, let’s see here . . . as far as I know, English is the only official language for more than a thousand miles in any direction from where I live, except in parts of Canada where I never visit.
Dont blame us for living in a part of the world with less need for many languages. If Obama wants to join the Euro trash who American bash, he has a good start going with nis head in the air about us in PA!
I would say Obama needs to pull his head out of his rump, but his head is waaaaaay too big to fit up his nether regions.

I agree with bilingual education and I think it needs more emphasis, but his tone is ridiculous, as is his statement about being ashamed of Americans. Can we say snob?
I asked a Italian post-doc student who came here that exact same question about language, as he spoke English fairly well. Humbly because I can not speak any other language. He said, “oh, English is the World’s language!” Thank-you Jordy, who is a sweetheart. Unlike BO who is a stinking elitist scumbag anti-American ahole.

Spanish is already being taught in the majority of our public schools, starting in K. I’m OK with that. But to EXPECT Americans to learn a second language, so condescendingly suggested, is way out of line. We spend a TON of money on bilingual material and programs. Communities around Northern NJ do the same for large Arabic and Korean populations as well. We cater enough to immigrants. Meanwhile, Obama cannot articulate his ridiculous ideas without the aid of his teleprompter. What a scam artist.

The US, England, South Africa, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have spent large sums of blood and treasure over the years so that Frenchmen, Belgians, Dutchmen, Poles, Chinese, Thais, Egyptians, Libyans, Moroccans did NOT have to learn Japanese, German or Russian.
All the US has asked in return for this are a few small plots of land for the interment of its young men who failed to return home.

And FYI Senator Obama, I do speak three languages, including French and Spanish. I learned them to attend a top international business school overseas. But do you know how much good it does me? Zero. That’s because I live in a wealthy and well educated part of the USA, not freakin’ Guatemala.

I have spent 28 yrs. of my life defending our county with USAF. At no time in all of the countriesI visited, approx. 45, did I ever have a problem with any language. Most people in those countries will go out of way to accomadate your requests. Who the hell does this puck from chicgo, hawaii,keyna, were ever. And the worst is where is his real birth place.I know where I was bor, does he. I really do not like Hillary, but right now she is head and shoulders above this total fraud. I can’t believe the grand po-bos of the dem party are happy with turd.

How dare anyone suggest we Americans learn another language? We should let everyone else do that. After all, we are Americans!

to start off, i would like to point out that english is not the most difficult language to learn. While it does have a lot of rules and exceptions, so do most European languages and Asian languages with far greater vocabularies and tenses. Second, if we as Americans are ever to get rid of our unjustified and self proclaimed reputation as “the world’s best” we need to start off by accepting the fact that there were other countries out there thousands of years before the US even existed, and that English was merely one of them and is in no way superior to any other language, and far from being the most efficient. As a matter of fact, nearly every one else in the world speaks English to facilitate their business and relations but just as soon as the economy shifts and world powers alter, lazy and stuck up Americans will be fucked as they are left to realize the world didn’t wait for them to learn another language. And as for the point that hard working Americans don’t have the time to learn one, that is bullshit, every other industrialized country is faced with similar challenges and yet once again manages to outdo us in yet another way.
