Obama Sings the Money Blues and Blames Hillary

By this point we cannot be surprised by the audacity or hubris of Mr. Bamboozle, Barack Obama. Today’s Washington Post had this tidbit:

The fundraising machine Sen. Barack Obama is relying on to overwhelm Sen. John McCain this fall has shown signs of wear in recent weeks, as Internet contributions have slowed and efforts to recruit top donors to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign have been beset by lingering tensions.

Apparently no one told Mr. “I Went to Harvard Cuz I Am So Smart” that the next phase of fundraising for the Presidential campaign would depend on attracting Hillary supporters and disaffected Republicans. Why?Under our campaign finance laws a person can only give $4600 to a candidate. Once you reach that limit you cannot give more to that person.

What do you do after you have tapped out your own true believers? Who is left? I count at least four categories of potential donors–Hillary supporters, those who wanted other democrats besides Hillary and Obama, uncommitted independents, and disaffected Republicans. It stands to reason then that Obama must reach out to these folks. He needs to make nice. So what is he doing?

Not too good. He fell far short of his fundraising goals for the second quarter. He’s down according to some sources by more than 70%. So who is responsible for this brewing debacle? Hillary of course. Obama and his posse are blaiming Hillary for his fundraising woes and–surprise, surprise–scapegoating Hillary for his own failings. The man is a putz.

While Obama trails John McCain’s fundraising he has found a scapegoat in Hillary. His campaign excuse that he can’t raise money because he is helping pay off her debt is either just one more Obama tall tale, an alibi for his own shortcoming, or exposes an astonishing lack of knowledge about simple campaign finance.

What’s the true story? Obama dropped out of the presidential campaign financing system in the belief that he could outraise and outspend McCain after making campaign finance one of the key planks of his campaign during the primaries, the crucial evidence of his integrity on reform. Well, never mind.

Having slipped away from his promise, Obama skirted away from other promises–that he would filibuster Bush’s FISA bill, instead voting for it, or that he would be a champion of choice for women, now cowardly taking a macho stand against imaginary frivolous and flighty women who he says claim to be just “feeling blue” when they have late-term abortions.

Unsurprisingly, Obama’s naive supporters, gulled into thinking that the One was the second coming, slowly, ever so slowly, ever so slightly, opened their shut eyes a sliver and saw a Chicago politician, and a crude one at that, who has played them like an accordion. So the money gusher has slowed.

And how is that outreach to Hillary supporters going? We reported last week on this blog that Obama bombed in his first effort to woo Hillary money people (see Obama Bombs). Turns out that wretch of a journalist, Bob Novak, stumbled belatedly on the same facts. In his column yesterday Novak “reported:”

“I would say he was pretty underwhelming,” a longtime Democratic activist said several days after he and some 200 other big-money supporters of Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign met with the victor, Barack Obama, in Washington on June 26. Gus will support and contribute to Obama as the party’s nominee, but he is not enthusiastic about it.

He is not alone. After the closed-door session in the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel’s ballroom, Gus was among 20 participants who gathered for drinks to talk it over. They agreed that it was not an “exciting performance” by the candidate who has entranced monster rallies across the country. Obama was “low-key” in a perfunctory appeal to them.

Who does Obama blame? Hillary, of course. While promising to clear up her debt as a token of his good faith in unifying the party–who can forget that Obama campaigned as Mr. Unity?–Obama has done little on that score. Here’s the rub: Contributing to Hillary has no relationship–zero, zilch, nada, nil, nothing–to do with Obama’s fundraising. An Obama contributor who has maxed out to Obama can give the maximum amount to Hillary without any conflict. There is no strain, especially for big contributors. But Obama hasn’t fulfilled his part of the deal, while Hillary this week raised $4.1 million from her contributors for him in New York. Obama took the stage and forgot, just one of those Freudian slips, to ask for money for Hillary–until he left the stage and the press reminded he had not done what he had come to do.

Then, the Obama campaign has leaked to the press that it’s all Hillary’s greedy fault that he is falling short on his fundraising targets. But it’s really Obama’s shiftiness and broken promises that are the root of his problem. Mr. Bamboozle keeps doing the okie doke but he is going broke. Instead of rolling in dough he is wallowing in woe. Way to go Mr. Unity.

UPDATE: Here is Will Bowers on Fox. Disturbing video of the “Brilliant” Barack Obama forgetting to ask for money for Hillary.

Just what are the actual numbers of Obama’s fundraising in June?

Comment by Jack | 2008-07-11 22:02:40

Obama raised more than $30 million in June: campaign

Probably decreased at the end since the beginning of his worst flip flops began in mid-June.

The story says final nos. won’t be released until the deadline, July 20.

With all the uproar over about-face Obama on the matters of FISA, faith-based organizations, guns, the war, abortion, election financing, etc. many are defecting from your camp. And for those who still haven’t defected, they are withholding $ from your candidate. I guess Obama opting out of gov financing was a bit precipitous!

Larry, please give me a quote from Obama where he is ‘blaming’ Hillary for being short of his fundraising goals (if he even is…you prove nothing of the sort)! Asking Obama donors to pay Hillary’s debt (to Mark Penn no less) is a little bit over the top…the big donors can do that, but you can’t expect the majority of us to cry over the fact that she did not manage her money - and DNC can help her out.
stop your ridiculous allegations Larry - unless you can prove them, okay? Your status in the blogging world has fallen - don’t you want to bring it back up again?

Comment by Medusa | 2008-07-11 23:30:08

Click the link. It’s the title of the article, based on interviews with his campaign.

I’ve not been able to find the article, but I read awhile back that Penn is taking a deep cut in his consulting fees. He is considered a “soft” debt and not a part of what Hillary is working to reduce. His fees are, obviously, negotiable.

I’ve just not bothered to correct you Obamabots, since you love to be bitter that she ran a campaign. Punishment is your deal. The message is consistent. MAKE HER SUFFER!

Which is also why you’re not getting any money for her supporters who actually sent in money and worked for her. That attitude is just poor sportsmanship. Gloaters feel good for a minute, but they lose in the long run.

But….don’t even worry your pea-brain at all. We’ve got her back. We gave you guys a chance at unity, and you blew it.

We’re paying it off. And we don’t need your 10 bucks.

Comment by scorbs | 2008-07-12 01:06:04

Every candidate ends a campaign with debt, and Clinton had a large operation that reflected extraordinary primary season. So stop Obamabot bleating about Clinton’s “management.” She did great and so did her campaign, particularly the last few months when they really pulled it together. She outshone Obama by miles. And still does. I’ve noticed that Obama pulled in less cash than he spent at the end as well.

Comment by trixta | 2008-07-14 01:48:26

It’s tradition for one candidate to pay off his/her opponent’s debt when s/he is presumed the nominee. This said, we should not count on Obama to do the right thing. Let’s keep contributing to HRC until her debt is paid off. I’m donated $50 this week and will continue to do so until her debt is erased.

Comment by elise | 2008-07-12 04:05:17

Of course his fundraisers are not obligated to pay off her debt. Her fundraiser and supporters are not obligated to donate to him or vote for him at Convention. He has no obligation to choose her as his running mate if he wins and she has no obligation to choose him, if she wins. No one has an obligation to unify the party and win the general election. BTW. President Andrea Merkel of Germany also seems to think she has no obligation to allow him to make a speech at the Brandenburg Bridge and has said so. Hillary has no obligation to campaign for him. She has clearly done her part. Bill Clinton is not obligated to endorse him or campaign for him and I can’t understand why the media thinks he should. If they think Bill is going to kiss the ring they are crazy. He has already said Obama can kiss his ass, which Obama has no obligation to do. No obligations here to even reply to your comments or listen to you insult Hillary yet again. I’m not obligated to give you advise, but I will anyway. Never underestimate Bill and Hillary Clinton. “I’ll never give up and I’ll never give in’”. may be too subtle for you.

This might come as a huuuuuuge surprise to you little pissants, but the VAST majority of America goes to work every day. When they come home, the first thoughts in their minds do not include rushing to the computer to read Daily Kos. In fact, they don’t even know who Daily Kos and HUFFPO are. Walk down the street and ask a hundred strangers over 25 and you will find that out. Most people are too busy supporting people under 25 to care about bloggers. The fact is, there are more of them than there are of you. So your “blogging community” bleating is laughable.

As for blaming Hillary or us “Insignificant” PUMA/JSND people, I’m just fine with taking blame. We aren’t going to give that sexist piggish Changeling hoax one dime. Same goes for the DNC. Let them eat Obama buttons.

You all bought into your bullshit hype that we are all “downscale” and have no money. You all pretend you are hot shit. The Joke’s on you. Most of us are supporting at least one of you pissants so that you can appear “upscale”. We have advanced degrees and we have earned our nuts. So when you say you don’t need us, you are wrong. We are the reason Barky Obama is going to dry up. If I dropped a penny on the ground I would step on his hand if he tried to pick it up.

Get out your calculator because I know your gen can’t add without one. Let’s talk numbers. The polls say there are between 10 percent and 25 percent of Hillary supporters who have no use for Barack Obama. WHich poll you choose to believe doesn’t matter a whit, because the total of the bodies adds up to between 1,800,000 and 4,500,000. Either way, that’s enough to send that hoaxy sack of crap you worship packing. And we will do it too.

I guess he will just have to tap more Pakistani duel citizens to get his money because Hillary’s major donors have just about told him to crap in his hat and put it on his head.

If Barack Obama blames Hillary, and the history of him tells us he always blames somebody else for his own shortcomings, then we Hillary supporters he “doesn’t need” are proud to take the rap. How’s that?

Hillary supporters are paying off her campaign debt, as we should because she stood for everything we wanted to believe in America and we are willing to pay for this message.

We don’t need your help and have never asked for it, Obama. Get out of our campaign because you are not needed and you are not welcome. You stand for everything we cannot stand.

Go to Hillary.com and send in your $10 and $20 because there are millions of us and we add up and Obama knows this now no matter how contemptuously he has tried to dismiss us.

Notice the full-court grovel Obama is pandering now to get our support. And how good it feels to kick him in the face now, instead of having felt his vicious, smirking blows all through out the campaign while he pretended he alone was taking the higher road in this race. Baloney. Eat that, Obama.

We PUMA’s have almost wiped out her debt so we don’t need him anymore, Screw him and that Bernie Mac that opened at the Chicago Fund Raiser last night. What a real man he is? Obama raised more than $30 million in June: campaign

Obanbi’s goal was $450 million to $550 million by Nov 2008, that’s approx. $100 million/month, so the $30 million is 70% off the stated goal. Looks good on him anyway, couldn’t happen to a bigger prick.

Even his $30 million/month to Nov 2008 gives him
$150 million, which is almost twice as much as McCain, hardly a level playing field, yet McCain is holding his own and then some.

What needs to happen is his donations to dwindle even more (as I suspect). I mean even his kool-aid drinkers are starting to see the guy is an arrogant, flake, flip flopper.

Don’t forget the national parties. They are used for ground organization, advertising, and GOTV efforts. The RNC has been KILLING the DNC in fundraising, and the RNC group has a ton more money for the convention than does the DNC group.

Republican National Committee (RNC)

• May 2008 receipts: $24.4 million

• Cycle-to-date receipts: $167.7 million

• May 2008 expenditures: $11.5 million

• Cycle-to-date expenditures: $117.3 million

• Cash, May 31: $53.5 million

• Debts, May 31: $0

Democratic National Committee (DNC)

• May 2008 receipts: $4.8 million

• Cycle-to-date receipts: $82.4 million

• May 2008 expenditures: $5.3 million

• Cycle-to-date expenditures: $82.1 million

• Cash, May 31: $4 million

• Debts, May 31: $6,300

Yes, Obama wants all the DNC money through him.

McCain has it going through others. Issue ads and 527s will become carniverous soon enough.

Obama has tried to control the money to control the message. All it did was decrease the practipation of others.

He could of course try and attract voters on issues, but he’s used much of those items as fodder to his move to some imaginary middle.

So the issue and platform messages become weaker, and he still sin’t getting the money. Terrible assumption on his part that everyone buys into him instead of their political cause issues.

Why’d he do that?

Comment by AnninCa | 2008-07-11 23:42:40

Group aims to cause DNC chaos The Denver Post Jul 12, ‘08 3:26 AM
for everyone

In Denver this weekend, a group of anarchists who have pledged to disrupt the Democratic National Convention will hold a secret action camp to learn about medical training and legal rights and to practice nonviolent tactics.

“We don’t want history to remember the Democratic National Convention in Denver as something that went smoothly,” said Tim Simons with the self-described anarchist group, Unconventional Denver.

“We want people to know there was dissent and people spoke up,” he said.

In the meantime, local governments in the region are inking contracts to send hundreds of law enforcement officers into Denver during the last week of August to work the convention.

Aurora will send nearly half its force to Denver, Jefferson County will ship more than 100 deputies and Arapahoe County is expecting to add 100.

Dozens of other agencies are sending officers: Colorado State Patrol, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Englewood, Littleton, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Douglas County and many others.

“We want to make sure we are adequately staffed for the number of people who are going to be here,” said Sonny Jackson, a Denver police spokesman. He would not disclose what agencies will be participating or how many officers are expected.

“We respect everyone’s First Amendment rights,” Jackson said. “We hope that the citizens will come in and conduct themselves in a law-abiding and responsible manner.”

With the contingent of local officers and federal agents and the money being spent on security from a $50 million federal grant, protesters worry about possible outcomes.

“The police are gearing up for confrontation,” said Glenn Spagnuolo, organizer with the protest group Re-create 68. “Police are getting dressed up for a fight, and if there isn’t one, they will create one.”

He said he has not heard of any of the protest groups planning violence against the police or citizens.

Plan for disruption

Numerous anti-war groups have announced their intention to demonstrate in Denver during the Aug. 25-28 convention, but most have promised peaceful actions. The language of the anarchist groups is more confrontational. Unconventional Denver is part of a national group of anarchists planning to descend on Denver.

The group says it will engage in nonviolent direct action and has called for protesters “to engage in a broad variety of tactics to disrupt fundraising events and prevent Democratic delegates from putting on the spectacle they claim as democracy,” according to the group’s website.

Unconventional Denver wants to shut down, disrupt or delay the convention; storm events; and “ensure that the DNC is a thing of rowdy beauty.”

The website suggests activists “hold” intersections to strand delegates in buses and “swarm” streets to force police to retreat.

The group has posted a schedule of events for certain days:

Sunday, the group wants to reclaim public space in the city. Monday, there will be actions against parties or restaurant outings and a “black bloc” gathering against capitalism. Tuesday, the group wants to shut down access to the Pepsi Center. And Wednesday and Thursday, there will be “creative actions” to address specific issues such as global warming, racism and criminal injustice.

“The streets will be a wild and creative place,” said Simons, a 25-year-old graphic artist who grew up in Boulder and lives in San Francisco.

Simons is helping organize Denver’s group, which meets weekly at a Colfax Avenue coffee shop. He wouldn’t disclose the size of the group.

For six days starting Saturday, they will meet at an undisclosed location to discuss actions and learn how to tend to one another’s medical needs and how to legally monitor the police reactions.

Simons says there will be street theater, “guerrilla gardening” and ways for alternative forms of media to get out their message.

A group called the Colorado Street Medics will be on hand throughout the protests to provide immediate medical service, said Zoe Williams, who is coordinating the expected 120 volunteer street medics.

“We don’t want to see a dark, evil atmosphere descending on Denver,” Simons said. “We want a festive atmosphere that celebrates grassroots movements.”

History of violence

Yet, historically, law enforcement officials have blamed anarchists for violence in protests.

In 2003, Colorado Springs Police Chief Luis Velez said, officers used tear gas on war protesters after anarchists from Denver disrupted the peaceful rally with violent acts blocking an intersection and banging on cars.

Anarchists took center stage in Seattle during the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting, when protesters smashed shop windows and police shot tear gas and rubber bullets. The National Guard and state patrol were called in to quell the chaos.

“I was there,” said Simons, who blamed police force for the trouble. “We were standing up for democracy.”

Simons said the real message of what people want will not be heard in the Pepsi Center or in the Democratic Party’s platform; it will come from what is being said in the streets.

“Politicians and the people in power should be afraid

Barbara, we appreciate all your Republican Help, but we know all about Recreate68. If you would kindly take the time to search the archives and actually read what we are all about, you would see that this is not news to us. I only tell you this because your posts are very cut/paste formal, contain very little interaction with us as humans, and a lot of condescending “let me inform you” material.

If I am wrong about your intent, I apologize. But it would be kind of nice if you would be less robotic and actually talk to instead of down to us. Trust me, we have IQs.

Obambi need not blame Hillary or her supporters.

My son just last night told me Obama was “terrible.”

I just read CNN’s home page and there’s one scary story, “2nd largest US Bank failure in history”

… and Obambi’s going to be in charge of things around here?

I don’t know which scares me more, his incompetence or the fact I simply don’t trust him. The people around him will perform corruption at such a high degree, on such a complicated level, that god knows when any of us will be able to see them and their management for what they really are.

I mean many of us saw thru the bush/cheney crap early on and it took yrs for many others to come on board.. but I’m concerned with the intellectual white collar corruption that will take place in the obama circus ring.

Comment by Davey | 2008-07-11 22:01:01

Oh of course… we also have to expect that if (hopefully when) Obama loses in the general election, he and his his supporters will blame it on Hillary staying “in too long” or her supporters being “too bitter”, “not donating enough” etc. etc. (basically fill in any excuse to blame Hillary).

To hell with them. Hillary was their scapegoat for everything that went wrong while Bill Clinton was in office. “Hillary failed on UHC.” “NAFTA was all her idea.” “If she could have kept her man happy, then the Monica Lewinsky scandal wouldn’t have happened.” It goes on and on. Well, Barack Obama isn’t owed one single thing from Hillary Clinton or her supporters. If he fails, it’s because his campaign failed to plan beyond June 4.

Does Obama still expect the DNC to foot the bill for Obama’s acceptance speech at the Denver Football Stadium? It would seem a cutback is in order bearing in mind that neither the DNC or Obama have enough money for these frills. I know the American people have had to cut back. So there are things you might not be able to have BO — GET OVER IT.

How can anyone honestly look at Obama and think he can remotely handle this terrible crumbing economY? For that matter the same can be said for McCain. Hillary can do it. I’m trying so hard to have faith in you guys too (I’m from the UK). I think it’s very doubtful (unfortunately) that Hillary will be nominated at the convention, especially with Obama’s new plans for it.

IF I was American, I would no way vote for Obama. Not for one second would I contemplate it. I did give him a chance back at the beginning of the year for a few days until realised there was just nothing there. Then the Rev. Wright stuff popped up and just confirmed the NO for me.

That leaves McCain… who I probably would vote for just because there is no way I’d want Obama.

However, I don’t believe either of them is the right person for the job. It would be like the lesser of two evils.

Hillary, however, would take your country, and the world to a new level. She has every single quality you could want in a president, including amazing vision and stunning intelligence.

I’m keep my fingers so tightly crossed that somehow things change and she gets in.

However, if Obama becomes president, I’ve told my friends that I’d seriously reconsider my move there if I ever did get the opportunity. I don’t think I’d want to live in a place that’s run by Obama.

Well one of the big problems we’ve had is with media coverage, just like you guys. It hasn’t been quite as one sided as over there, but even the BBC couldn’t help themselves sometimes. You could tell they just loved the “First Black President” ideal and every report had that little twinge about it.

Of course it doesn’t help when most of the correspondents are people who have lived and worked in Washington DC for many years, so I imagine they’re bound to get caught up in it to some extent.

The most balanced news coverage has been from Channel 4 News. They’re usually very good, and were the best this time around.

I have to say I’m very disappointed in the BBC - I thought they were the one organisation I could trust. I actually emailed them with a complaint a couple of months ago.

I guess in terms of business it makes sense - more exciting stories get more viewers and that’s what it’s all about. Selling the “First Black President” just takes the edge over “First Woman President” I suppose??

But seeing as the BBC is funded with our money directly from us, I wasn’t too happy!

so, Davey, please spread the anti-Obama word in your part of the world. I can’t imagine why anyone in the UK, France or Germany thinks this guy is anything other than the lying, slick huckster that he is.

Comment by Davey | 2008-07-12 09:27:11

Well in part it’s the media coverage - see a post I just made above.

But if it helps (this did make me happier), last weekend I met up with a big bunch of my old friends and 3 of us were chatting about the Presidential campaign. I thought they might love Obama (they’re both around my age - 23), but to my surprise they could see right through him.

One of them had been living in NYC whilst doing a PhD for the last 8 months so I guess she’s experienced the primaries first hand.

We didn’t have chance to chat about it for too long, but the one thing we all 100% agreed on… you can not sit in a church for 20 years while hate was spouted and then claim you heard nothing.

Obama supporters would probably tell me to stop living in the past, but it’s true. That was the first revelation that made me thoroughly dislike Obama, and since then it’s been just another and another.

I’ve also spoken in depth to my family over here about it. My sister, mother and grandma all cannot believe what is going on over there. They all love Hillary - I wish we could’ve voted lol. My father is a bit more 50/50. He’s very intelligent and follows UK politics more than anyone else I know, but with everything I’ve been telling him (things that he hasn’t known through the MSM) he’s starting to see Obama in a different light I think.

So don’t worry… we’re not all crazy for a Obama. My wish list (and many others) for this year looks like:

1. Hillary becomes President (but if that doesn’t happen…)
2. Obama doesn’t.

I have friends who I fully respected until quite recently, when I realised they seem to love Obama but have no idea who he is or what he stands for.

Still, I doubt any of this would change them. They’re blinded. It makes me sad that so many good people have chosen such an awful candidate, and will refuse to admit they were wrong, or just plain cannot see it.

A couple weekends ago a friend of mine invited me to a Barack Obama party she was having. I told her I can’t go because I’m the enemy. She said I should go anyway to learn about him. I begged off politely.
She’s a good-hearted woman, I think the reason she supports him is because she thinks he will end the Iraq war. I haven’t spoken to her indepth about him at all, there’s certain people you can talk politics with and then some you can’t.

After the PA primary I asked another friend of mine who she voted for, fully expecting her to say Hillary. No, her husband convinced her to vote for Barry. I said to friend, “you know HIllary has a better chance of beating McCain”, and my friend did admit she had serious reservations and thought she might regret her Obama vote. Haven’t spoken to her recently, but I know she is experiencing Obama remorse.

See, that’s the problem with us Hillary supporters, we’re too nice! If you had been an Obambam supporter in the same situation you would have probably harrassed and bullied your friend to support HIM! :) Just kidinng, not really!

You’re so right… I was called a “racist a**” by one of my best friends (who supports Obama) when I told him I didn’t think Obama was qualified. I never once mentioned race (seeing as it’s not an issue to me), but that doesn’t seem to stop them does it?!

We haven’t spoken since, and I’m not sure if I ever want to.

The day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year and the stores go from red ink to black ink. It was a bookkeeping term.

Comment by mr. natural | 2008-07-12 00:47:43

I used to joke that the RNC voting registries were nothing but a sucker list - something that they peddled to boiler rooms and direct marketing scammers between election cycles.

Thanks to Team Obama, that’s all changed.

Now it’s the DNC that owns the rights to America’s best sucker list.

I have friends who I fully respected until quite recently, when I realised they seem to love Obama but have no idea who he is or what he stands for.

My husband’s 11 yr old granddaughter told me in February she liked Obama best. I asked her why and she said “Because I like to say his name”. I told her “Well, that’s why you are not allowed to vote.”

Comment by trixta | 2008-07-14 02:52:30

Interesting! I have two teenage nieces (both in Catholic High Schools in Sacramento & Berkeley, CA), one supported Obama at the beginning of the primaries, the other HRC.

By May–and without influence by me or her mother–the Obama supporter had switched to HRC. When asked why, she said that Obama spoke in vague terms and generalities and that she didn’t know how specifically he was going to change things. After watching the debates and the primary stump speeches, she now viewed HRC as the most capable of the two, a candidate with a plan and specifics to back it up. This niece reported that most of the student body in this all-girl high school was for HRC.

Unfortunately, the other niece and her male friends who supported HRC were called racists by the Obama crowd! To her dismay, HRC campaign signs posted on walls and student lockers were destroyed by Obama supporters. All in all, the atmosphere was very intimidating for HRC supporters at this Berkeley co-ed high school. She was very sensitive to the misogyny against HRC, both by the Obama campaign and by the media. This really depressed her. But she, too, sensed a buddying women’s movement for her generation as a result of the way these primaries played out.

Comment by apishapa | 2008-07-11 21:58:41

Oh yeah, that hundred grand he’s managed to dig up for her is breaking Obama. That made the difference in his coffers.

I think Hillary has probably outraised Obama in June and he is embarassed about being shown up by someone who’s not even campaigning. I’ll bet she is kicking his ass in July, too.

The problem with Obama is he assumes that we would be giving to him if she would just not ask for help with her debt. The DNC made it imperitive for us to help Hillary right now because they have moved the deadline for her to cover her debts three times in an effort to keep her off the ballot. So, barack could blame the DNC if he can’t take his own responsibility for being a loser.

Oh and Barack, I would never give you one nickel. EVER. What I gave Hillary this week came out of my car fixing fund, not my Obama fund. There isn’t one of those.

Comment by Teakwood | 2008-07-11 22:38:25

Has there been anything officially released by the DNC or Obama regarding your comment?

I Am reading “sources say” material but not first hand accounts being reported.
To the extent the DNC has rules they follow, what legal obligation does Hillary have to pay off her debt in any time frame?

This “moved the deadline three times” has been confirmed?
Thanks.

Obama’s June fundraising is probably less than 10 million. If it were 30 million, they would be tripping over themselves to report they raised more than McCain and all from the internet.

But, Obama is witholding the June fundraising numbers so they can pump them up with funds received in July.

They will withold July numbers to pump them up with August funds.

This will go on until the Convention, where they hope to generate cash from the hoopla.

His scheme is catching up to him, and the donations are drying out. All that dough he raised in the primary was from those who wanted to defeat Hillary.

Comment by josgirl | 2008-07-11 22:09:06

There’s nothing to trumpet.
Anything less than the 100 million he promised, is embarrassing.
Remember, he promised to raise enough for the DNC and down-ticket Dems to justify their support.

Comment by Linda C. | 2008-07-11 22:18:10

I still think the republicans were main donors to his primary campaign and they have gone home to the RNC to help McCain.

As soon as Hillary suspended her campaign..the money started to slow down. When he did his arrogant 180 degree turn…is dried up.

Comment by Latte liberal for McCain | 2008-07-12 21:00:54

Comment by Mr.Murder | 2008-07-12 17:40:43

He always projects two third of his expected cash intake.

They claim to match 100% your donation with that of another person.

Then they expect you to follow up with a matching donation to your initial amount.

That’s a 200% markup.

Thus, 30 million was being proclaimed 90 million.

Turns out 30 million was really ten million.

Comment by Patti | 2008-07-12 23:34:40

Plus, their failed attempt at “raffling” a special place in the convention for a $5. plus doantion got flushed under that bus. Have to subtract those projections.

Only see 1 comment about what seems closest to the truth: Everything in bozo’s camp has always been the opposite of what is true. He claimed huge internet small donors made him - but I looked at his Feb records and far too many were “unemployed students” giving the max - several thou $$$ at once-

That doesn’t sound like small donors- that sounds like corporate cover money run through the laundry chain in family members names - Why else did he have the only campaign to accept $$ from 16 yr olds - when all others have minimum contributer age of 18? Obviously to hide PAC money.

Since his funds are lessening, then, it seems that the PAC $ are what’s really drying up? Why?

Because it was probably a lot of Republican $ to get Hillary out of the race.

Last month he led 51 to 36 vs McCain. Todays poll:
His lead is 44 vs 41 for McCain.

Last I read, BOs camp is saying he raised 30 mil in June v 22 mil for McCain, but we will see when the actual numbers come out. As Larry points out, Hillary has nothing to do with his numbers…since his maxed out contributers can’t help him now anyways (at least in theory). I’d venture to guess that PUMAS have raised a lot more to retire his debt than his people have.

I gave the maximum for Hillary and some more which went to her senate campaign and my husband did too but not to the same extent. I am in a position to give more for GE but would not give a red cent to Obama or the DNC. Hell, I am not even giving him/them my vote.

Also, watch out PUMA. The distortions will start if not occurring (like Larry says)already about his shortfall being due to Hillary’s debt. You be ready to dispel it — we the little people have been raising money for her debt and Obama and his minions have done nothing so far. We should be forceful in negating their press and Clinton’s own people come out and release the info about what she did for Obama through her donors and what he did NOT do for her.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-07-11 22:52:58

pm317 — Obama can only go to the victimization well just so often before people tune him out, which is what appears to be happening now. Last month Obama was moaning that Republicans would not vote for him because of his color. Now he can’t raise money because Hillary is Greedy. Give us a break. Nobody begged Obama to run. He could have stayed the the Senate for a complete term but after just 143 Days he decided that God wanted him to save this country. God probably made a boneheaded mistake when he was asked to decide whether this was the right time for Obama to run for President - he pressed the wrong button.

I gave to Hillary and I even bought three of the debt retirement TShirts. Mostly, my money this year is going local, which is where I’ve got the most control or hope of control. I donated twice to Al Franken’s Minnesota campaign against Norm Coleman. I’ve donated to this site and several others, just to keep the lights on and because I, like Larry Johnson, need a place to vent. I’ve even donated to the Black Agenda Report - because Glen Ford, who writes that site, is madder than anyone about the falseness that is Obama.

Just as i suspected all along, the Republicans have been stuffing Obama’s coffers to stop Hillary, but now that he pretty much has the nomination sealed up, they can start giving their money to McCain. It’s a very smart strategy by the GOP.

Of course I didn’t mean that, LOL. I don’t think Barry got a thin dime from Republicans myself. They need the money in their coffers, this election was to be a Democratic win hands down. They know they need every dollar for their own candidates.

Bill Clinton skipped the Unity, NH event. He went to Nelson Mandela’s birthday event in London’s Hyde Park instead. The next day, the Telegraph reported he said Obama could “kiss my ass.” Then he and Obama had a 20 minute phone conversation. “Obama took the stage and forgot, just one of those Freudian slips, to ask for money for Hillary–until he left the stage and the press reminded he had not done what he had come to do.”

I had read somewhere else that it was one of Obama’s people who stopped him and reminded him that he hadn’t done what he was there for - To seek funds from supporters to pay off Hill’s debt.

If it was in fact a media person and NOT an Obama person who reminded him, this makes a huge difference. For me anyway. You know he was surrounded by his own campaign people there and if not one of them reminded him to do the deed, and it was in fact a reporter who had to tell him, well, imo that speaks volumes about this guy, and the people surrounding him..

So tell me, if Senator Obama sprouts a boil on his arrogant behind, will that be Hillary’s fault, too?

This man is a pathetic excuse for a candidate. Nothing but whining and placing blame everywhere else but squarely on his own shoulders, and on Axelrod’s shoulders, where it clearly belongs.

Could his arrogance, lack of empathy or care about anyone besides himself, the fact that he has reneged on all his campaign promises, rubbed Hillary’s nose in the dirt at every opportunity — during and after the primary, and calling her husband a racist have anything to do with his money woes?

Perhaps the meme is true after all that there was a lot of foreign money and Republican money propping up his candidacy to begin with — in order to get rid of the stronger and better, more qualified candidate — Senator Clinton.

Call your Congressperson and say “We’ve Changed Our Minds!”

It’s a long way to Denver…

Comment by Hmm | 2008-07-11 22:47:12

Obama can blame everyone under the sun but if he can’t raise the money he’s done.

I sense a slight shift in the media’s attitude. I think that Obama’s rapid abandonment of so many core enlightened positions confused them. In one week he essentially has robbed them of their story line that he is a new kind of politician.

It is slowly sinking into their thick skulls that they need to have a new story line.

My guess is that Senator Obama is not going to be happy with what they come up with.

Comment by lute | 2008-07-11 22:47:44

Hillary supporters shouldn’t give him a penny.
This guy totally vilified her.
Today I was talking to a disenchanted Obama supporter who said he wouldn’t vote for Clinton because her health plan included a mandate.
I tried to explain that this was the only way to execute an effective plan. But he had been brainwashed, and typical of Obama supporters, had no inclination toward opening his mind.
They don’t like Obama, but have been brainwashed that Hillary is the Queen of Evil.

Comment by DoroB | 2008-07-11 22:59:02

Yeah. The guy in charge of BO’s health care plan is the same guy (his name escapes me now) who headed the campaign and pushed the Harry and Louise ads against HRC’s health care initiative in the 1990s. This explains why such an ad was revived in the primary campaign. Shame on you, Obama!

(shrugging shoulders…just another one of them double standardzezess)

BTW, I also find it amusing that you people sincerely believe all Obama supporters are either impoverished blacks or rich, white liberals. These are the people who will never get the bj in the Oval Office out of their cotton-picking, puritanical, Hillbilly minds.

Too bad they don’t realize that Obama looks his nose down on bitter Hillbillys. And he’s serious about that.

Obama has nothing but disdian for working class people and that would include black working class people.

Open your eyes and realize that without an over zealous gossip mongering press, Clinton’s sex life would have been like all the presidents before him: Bill and Hillary’s personal business.

I wish this same press corp cared enough to investigate Obama’s Birth Certificate.

Silly of me…. It’s only the Clintons people love to hate on.

Hillary isn’t in the GE, remember? If she were, she’d have 40 million waiting. She had more money for the GE than Obama did.

I see nothing wrong at all about her lending her campaign 11 million. She and Bill have accumulated wealth, so why not spend some on her own behalf?

The point is that Obama’s money making was one of the factors that persuaded the SDs to go with him. Well, the bar is high now. His campaign bragged about how much they would raise. They are far short of the mark.

He’s been reported as saying he was NOT interested in wooing Hillary’s people, and reports from her fundraisers made it clear he meant it. They were “underwhelmed,” to put it mildly. He had nothing to offer them whatsoever and most came away feeling set aside. Now, his fundraising numbers are down from expectations, and he needs them. As one fundraiser put it, “We’re back, and this time it’s personal.”

The meme from his campaign, which is all over the Obama blogs, is a tone of punishment and disunity. The bashing of Hillary continues. The tradition of working together to help her retire her debt is in the trashcan. And those who do not SUCCUMB to Obama’s Democratic Party and start backing his crap like a cheerleader are told to “Get Over It.”

Once again, our warnings were not heeded.

The result is that the DNC is in dismal shape. Nobody from Hillary’s camp is sending money. See, the people who send money are the involved ones. We ARE the ardent supporters Obama has offended. So the problem is much deeper than Obama’s mere 30 million in June. Who will pay for the convention?

Obamabots don’t think past their adoration for him. They took over the party. In my opinion, they also took on the responsibility to fund the party.

This situation is similar to raising kids. You want decisionmaking power? You pay the bills.

Comment by sj | 2008-07-12 13:41:41

The man is brilliant. Why didn`t someone think of this before. His grasp of International affairs astounds me.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said in interview excerpts released Friday that Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden should be executed, if he is ever captured alive.

The Illinois Senator told CNN that the accused mastermind of the September 11 attacks in 2001 should face the full weight of US and global justice.

“I am not a cheerleader for the death penalty,” Obama said.

“I think it has to be reserved for only the most heinous crimes, but I certainly think plotting and engineering the death of 3,000 Americans justifies such an approach.”

“I think this is a big hypothetical, though — let’s catch him first,” he said.

Not his: because all his “words” to others always carry this silent internal self-message: “Nothing I say means anything to me. I will neither recall I said this nor make any attempt to implement it in action”

Comment by HARP | 2008-07-12 00:02:24

Probably Hillary`s fault that he said it.

We should have all expected this outcome when the DNC moved the convention date to coincide with the anniversary of the MLK Dream speech, in august, instead of July when they usually have it. The only question is...did they pick the date after they had picked the black candidate, or did they pick the date, and then go out to find a black candidate to stick on the podium? You tell me, but the conincidence is just a little too much, and it certainly belies the efforts they have gone to to insure hie success so far.
I say, "Hooray for Andrea Merkel!"

Comment by Deep Truths | 2008-07-11 23:37:17

They picked Obama at the 2004 Convention. Let him have the speech there. Its been in the works for a while. Ironically, had they kept the July date he might have been the nominee. Now…as always its about the dough, who has it, who can bring it in.

Its Hillary Time.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-07-12 00:33:07

If there’s any truth to the Whitey Tape rumors, then Michelle Obama made her angry remarks about Rwanda and Bill Clinton a week before that convention. The Democratic party bosses knew what they were getting into when they brought the Obamas on board. This was like a mean high school prank like the movie Carrie. I want to see flames and blood.

Comment by Mr.Murder | 2008-07-12 17:30:09

Rwanda = Kenya

Bloodshed begets bloodshed.

Comment by Fred C. Dobbs | 2008-07-12 00:19:09

If he had ANY balls, he’d make his speech from the balcony of the Lorraine Motel.

I’m certain that the King family money-grubbers would rent it to him for a pittance.

Comment by Hank Collins | 2008-07-11 23:38:41

So … an elderly and very devout priest dies and goes to heaven. When he gets there he sees a long line of souls moving slowly toward the Pearly Gates. He walks to the front of the line and says to St. Peter “What is this line?” St. Peter tells him it’s the line to get into heaven, and that he must go to the end and wait his turn with the other souls. “But surely, St. Peter, I’ve devoted my life to God and deserve to get through the gates before many of these ordinary humans.” But St. Peter simply says “No exceptions” and turns away.

So the priest walks for hours to get to the end of the line, then endures several days of creeping along in the slowly moving line. Finally, he’s back within sight of the Pearly Gates and wiping the sweat off his brow, when suddenly a limosine appears, headed in the direction of the Pearly Gates. As it passes him, he looks inside and sees … Barack Obama! The priest watches closely as the limosine drives all the way up to the gates, stops briefly by St. Peter, then enters the Gates.

The priest is incensed; he asks the person behind him to save his place and he hikes the 1/4 mile or so to the front of the line and strides right up to St. Peter and says: “St. Peter, this cannot be right. You have sent me, a man of the cloth, to wait in line for several days, but you let Barack Obama go right through the gates? How can this be fair?”

St. Peter turns to him and says: “No no, my good man, that wasn’t Barack Obama. That was God. He just THINKS he’s Barack Obama.”

oh chit something just hit me (I hope I’m wrong) but if it truly IS (for bho) all about the MONEY and who can bring it……………

sigh

David Gergen could be right. Hillary could be his Cash Goddess.

What the HELL r we gonna do??? And I’m mostly asking uber HILL fans like me that realize even 4 yrs from now is OLD for most of US……. she might want to get in there NOW.

just thinking
if it’s about money and now Will Bower and us PUMAS have been seen to be CASH happy (or so he would think)

God I hope I’m wrong
I hope Gergen is wrong

Comment by ginaswo still says no Uhhbama | 2008-07-12 00:26:45

even if that happens, no worries by me, he will step down as nominee after the GOP lets him have it , if he is this careless with what we know, imagine what we dont..I think it is good Hill is in a strong position either way, we have showed her we have her back and the DNC can bite me!!!!!

Comment by Deep Truths | 2008-07-12 10:17:39

Not sure when Gergen said this but Hillary’s PUMA supporter are canny enough to give only to her debt, and not the Obama or the DNC. Gergen is on crack if he can’t see that point.

The only bad thing is if the PUMA money is rich enough to put her in the black with a surplus. The DNC is licking its lips just as it did when they thought Obama was the cash cow. Only Hillary’s surplus is a big dilemma, for her as well as the DNC. Its leverage of course. She should demand a vote and she will win it.

I think the DNC will let the dirt on OBAMA come shining through before the convention to make it convenient under the bus toss. Killing two birds with one stone - or throw. The democrats will get the money and Hillary will get the presidency.

Its a brilliant plan - work with it DNC.

Brazile may or may not have a main squeeze, at least nothing listed on NNDB. Perhaps she became a lesbian so she could love herself to the exclusion of all others.

I have donated the maximum allowed for the primary and, overcoming my shyness in this matters, have asked some friends and relatives to contribute to the Hillary campaign. I never planned, nor intend to donate to the Obama campaign, so blaming anything on Hillary is useless on his part.

I plan to donate for the general if Hillary is the nominee. I will not vote for a ticket with Hillary as VP. She is and will be blamed for Obama’s mistakes, which are many already.

I pray she does not take him as her VP either, he will undermine her presidency. She will spend her time putting political fires down caused by his incompetence.

Thank you Senator Clinton for voting against FISA.
We’re very proud of your courage and integrity.

The construct of the Democratic Party has taken a dramatic turn in history………..unlike anything we have ever seen before………………

However,

We have yet to determine if it is for the worse or for the better………………………………

If the PUMA’s and others can bring Hillary back in the black and she really still wants to be President…

Then, they must bring her campaign off of suspension status, get her delegates in line and adopt a creed of
Party Unity My Ass……….Translated

Country before Party…………..

Hillary before the corrupt party leaders and Obama…

But, this has to be done very quickly!~

HILLARY HAS TO WANT THIS……

SHE HAS TO BE WILLING TO TAKE ON THIS CORRUPTION AND HAVE A FLOOR FIGHT AND PUMA MUST BE READY TO TAKE ON THE SUPERDELEGATES AND REMIND THEM THAT THEY ARE ELECTED OFFICIALS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE SUPERDELEGATES ARE THE ONES WHO ARE DECIDING THIS ELECTION.

NANCY PELOSI HAS TO GO!
DEAN HAS TO GO!
REID HAS TO GO!

OBAMA HAS TO BE CHALLENGED ON THE CONVENTION FLOOR

THE SUPERDELEGATES HAVE TO BE GRABBED AND TOLD THAT THEIR ELECTABILITY IS HELD IN THE BALANCE AND PUMA HOLDS THEIR POLITICAL FATE IN THEIR HANDS!

JUST SAY NO DEAL HOLDS THE SUPER DELEGATES ACCOUNTABLE AND THEY MUST SAY NO TO PELOSI, DEAN, REID AND OBAMA NOW!

CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?

BUT…….NONE OF THIS IS ANY GOOD IF HILLARY WANTS TO BE VEEP.

ALL HE HAS TO DO IS ASK HER TO BE HIS VEEP AND IT IS ALL OVER…………………….

SOMEONE FROM THIS COALITION NEEDS TO SEE WHERE SHE IS.

What is really amazing is that millions of people have read her intentions without her having to put it in writing or give a speech. We withheld votes and money and gave only to her. We threaten to vote for McCain. We are an army intune with the CIC.

Just think what will happen when the whole nation can connect psychically like that. And the nation wants Hillary. Even Republicans would vote for her.

It’s funny that the media is finally noticing Puma et. al.

Why? Because we’re hitting the DNC and Obama where it hurts. In the pocket.

Some politicians may not respond to pleas from voters to do the right thing. They do respond to lack of funding.

Obama hasn’t kept his word on key liberal and progressive issues. I am not surprised he’s not keeping his word about helping retire Hillary’s debt.

We will remember in November.

For PUMA and JUST SAY NO DEAL and all the other groups to have credibility, we simply have to remain organized even after the convention.

I am confident. I like the thinking of Women Count Too. They have set up a women’s agenda that isn’t focused on candidates. Finally, someone is thinking about the solutions and issues! I think PUMA could play a role other than supporting Hillary later, too. We’ll see how it evolves.

Definitely, the disaffected Democrats will be taken seriously when they hand McCain a win in the Fall. Then, the pundits will scramble to write their obits for the Democratic Party.

And out of the ashes we can save the best and trash the rest.

Comment by cc | 2008-07-12 07:00:26
